Hawaiian Style Meat Marinade

For about 3lbs of meat/poultry

 

1 - 1 1/2c Aloha Shoyu (hawaiian soy sauce)

1 - 1 1/2c water

1/4c vinegar

1t minced garlic

4 pieces of crushed ginger or you can substitute with 1-2tbsp ground ginger

1/4 brown sugar

1tbsp pepper

 

marinade overnight for best results

 

you can edit depending on what your tastebuds are asking for :)

 

it's my mothers simple/go to marinade....hope you guys/gals enjoy it! aloha ~ :wave:

Lala, can you tell me what the predominate taste is? Judging by the the ingredients and associating Hawaii with pinapples, I would think it's kinda sweet. I love marinades but moreso on the spicey or salty side.

its not sweet like how you would think. the brown sugar just adds a tad because the vinegar has that bite and the aloha shoyu is smoother then the usual soy sauce that's out there. its kind of smokey it's really delicious i swear by it lol and also i would prefer a charcol grill and instead of using water to like tame the flame i would use some beer. it's sooooo good! :) hope this helped

I would have never thought of this but I'm positive I can substitute the water spray bottle that hangs from my grill to the open beer that I'm surely drinking at the time I check on the food. lol. I'm starting to like this section of the forum more and more. :hungry: Thanks Lala

hehe np! my dad always bbq-d that way and when i tried to just use water it wasn't the same. the mixture of the charcol, beer, and marinade on the meat is aaaaahhh my mouth is watering lol i may just have to take my own advice and hook some up tomorrow lol
