Update on UF on Tour Chicago Prize Winnings

Recommended Posts

As many know the sponsor for the prize pool for the UF on Tour Chicago event failed to follow through and left us in a poor position. With the lower than minimum threshold turnout, we actually did not bring in enough revenue to cover the cost of the event. We were actually comfortable with the latter part because we were led to believe the sponsor was covering the Prize money. This was a difficult position to be in and has affected everyone involved.

With that being said we had a second solution worked out, and everything was going to be good. That has since changed. Unfortunately they decided that it was not financially possible to come to our need. While we are disappointed about this, we do respect that they did come to us and actually inform us of their intent to decline.

Where that leaves us and those affected: We are still working on a solution to get our teams that earned winnings their compensation. For those that need new checks or have not received them, we will not send new ones until we can send a cashier’s check.

We understand that many of you will be upset, and you have every right to be. We are as upset about the situation as you guys are. This is a low blow to our community. We will continue to push forward and our priority is to get the winners taken care of and our next event 100% prefunded.

We will continue to be available any time to provide updates on our progress as we work to resolve this situation. For direct contact you can reach us via the Contact Us Form.

I would hope your working on this every day until it is corrected. That does not answer my question as too what you are doing to handle it though. Not only are the winners of this event out there $80 fee to play but have lost their winnings as well. Typically when you get sponsors you have the donations/money prior to the event so instances like this do not happen. I still can't fathom how both sponsors first and second decided to back out. Not only does this leave a bad rep for you but also your partners like Sony.

Kind of hard to have payout when the interest wasn't there at all..

A 64 team double elemenartion ended up being like 12-16 teams that still took 14 hours to complete and the twitch never got over 100 viewers. It's hard for sponsors to payout when the numbers promised weren't even half.

Said part is that you guys are still planning one for Houston when you haven't settled this one yet

First your stats are off but no matter, its expected from you guys. And there were no promised numbers either, the event itself was a success, just a deadbeat sponsor refuses to own up. That all will be resolved well before Houston.

As for your concerns Nswiercz, you are correct we should have had the sponsor payout prior to the event and this has been changed so that this does not happen again. As for our backup backing out, that individual made that choice and though we are not happy that he did not come through, he at least let us know so that we could inform the teams.

All of our partners know exactly what is going on as we update them just like the teams and we have their support in the situation. Once this is all rectified it will be one lesson we will never forget. What surprised me is this seems to happen quite a lot in this industry so we will be a little more selective with our sponsors and much more diligent with our agreements.

My numbers are quite accurate I watched the whole live-stream. Just seems odd you have all these high profile sponsors like Sony, Dr Pepper, and Brady Games and yet no payout. I feel like such well established companies wouldn't just back out.

For your pleasure direct from Twitch:

Live Stream

· 7740 Video Plays

· 87 Average Concurrent Viewers

· 265 Max Concurrent Viewers

· 4320 Unique Viewers

· 7220 Messages in Chat

· 15 Hours of Broadcast time

And the sponsors and partners you listed were not the prize sponsor. We will not be sharing information at the recommendation of our legal team, however we will never do business with them again.

Yea obviously you didn't watch the entire stream. The highest I saw it get up too was 111 viewers during a match on express near the end of the tournament. I'm not in anyway supporting UF because I would personally demand the money within two weeks of the event ending and would contact a lawyer anytime after that because you are a business, you made a promise, and you didn't follow through. However, you're stats are off germ.

Shane,

I apologize if you feel as though I'm attacking you, however my relative is a victim here being out $300+ or whatever it was he won on top of entry fees. I'm just trying to make sure this does not get dropped by the waste-side. Knowing you work along with those sponsors even though they are not the prize sponsors I'm surprised they are not will to fork out the money as it will be a write off at the end of the year anyways, specially with them being such large corporations. Have you thought of asking them for a one time help out to correct this, since they are standing by you as you stated?

100 or 111 not like it's a huge difference...

Yes we have discussed several plans but the solutions are not really fast enough, most are near March or later. So we are continuing to find one sooner. And no one will be dropped by the wayside, we have each individual in a spreadsheet with exactly what is owed to them.

Germ, it really makes no difference about the count, Shane and the UF staff are doing what they need to do in order to make things right for the winners of the competition, it seems to me that all you want to do in this thread is cause conflict and argument when in fact you should be saying Thank you for all we do. I know what happened in Chicago sucks, and mistakes were made, but at least Shane's not saying "Oh well" and moving on. So in the long run I suggest you either help by supporting us and playing in the venues we provide, or kick rocks.

I meant the venues created and played right here at UF...online tournaments. And and I said this was a huge lesson learned, and this will not be the last time we have a live event, but it will be the last time we make the mistake we did with the sponsor.

Any update on what progress has been made? It would be nice if there was like a bi-weekly update at least so those effected know this is continually being worked on instead of promoting everything else all the time. It comes of as you could care less about it.

Sorry I did not seem to receive an email notification on your reply... First there is not much to update at this time, we continue to look at solutions and we are in the works of creating a fundraiser as well. I am sure most do not realize this site is run fully by volunteers and our small ad revenue goes to pay for our web server.

As for promoting everything else, with the exception of the Dust 514 Online Tournament that completed in the last couple of weeks, we have not had any events going on. This is generally the slow period while we wait for the next shooter to come out.

As for not caring, that is the farthest from the truth, you can ask anyone who talks with us on a regular basis that we are still sickened by this situation that we have been put in. All we can do is continue to work towards a solution.

This really is unfortunate. I don't see how this situation could be resolved.

Sad to see AC leave as well (side note btw).

Ah shoot, my non-biased post got removed.

We can see many ways for this to get resolved, but its all long term, and quite frankly we would rather get this fixed sooner than later. But the continued negative posts do not help.

As for the note about AC, he has not been involved with the site for well over 2 years so not sure why you are just bringing that up.

Your post was not removed, as you can see I quoted it... so not sure what happened.

I was simply making a statement, sucks for both sides. Not sure where that negative comment comes from in direction to me. AC was Director usergroup for the majority of the time in the past 2 years. Granted I can't speak for the back end stuff but anyway, I always thought he was a good dude. The post wasn't showing up as the 3rd page was not visible when I returned so I assumed it was removed.

Anway, just waiting for H-Hour.

I honestly do not see the need to keep adding remarks that aren't going to help any situation that they are trying to do. Armond (AC) hasnt even been around here for a very long time. But that is not important.. What is important is finding a solution to the issue at hand. It was unfortunate that this had to happen. In no way could anyone have asked for that to happen. Things do Happen. Things will get resolved.. I understand people do want to have updates.. Shane can post everyday the same exact post. How would that help.. He did state when he does have some more information he will inform the participants..
