Noisy Intercooler

I have a Nyko intercooler on the PS3 and the damn thing is noisy as hell. > Does anyone know what I can use to lubricate it without messing up the PS. I have looked throughout the web and can't seem to find a solution. I even checked Nyko's site under product support and there was nothing on this issue. Thanks.

lol he said lube.... mate just get some wd-40 take the fan apart grease it with that and put it back together and make sure are the parts are as tight as they should be it could just be a crap fan though and if it greasin it doesnt work you might wanna look into a new fan

It gets quieter after a little time but it still makes some noise. Don't need it to burn up! Hey I can't complain it was won in a contest so it was free to me. Cant use wd 40 on electronics besides that it will gum up after a while and for sure burn it up. I was thinking maybe some graphite might work.

intercoolers are known to fuck up your ps3 .... you really dont need it .... im in az and its 100 degrees everyday and mine never gets hot ..

Yeah Ive read alot of reviews about intercoolers messing the PS up. I haven't had a problem with this one besides the noise. I play for long periods of time. I have no t.v. so I play PS. I know this playstation gets hot even with the intercooler on it.

never had a problem without one. I read about problems with them and how the PS3 is designed with specific airflow and how the inter cooler messes it up.

Hummm........... I havent had a problem with it so far so Ill just leave it on.

try this. get 3-4 fat rubber bands and wrap em around the intercooler evenly spaced. you dont want to block a lot of it off, so dont put too many on. the rubber will soak up some of the noise or any vibration. it wont cure all, but may help a little bit.

yea i have the same intercooler and also had the same noise problem i just took the damn thing off after awhile it got on my nerves >

The noise will never go away. I will tell you it does ruin ps3's first hand. I would throw the thing out or sell it to gamestop. It's not doing anything for your playstation 3.

A few clan mates have had this problem, it's a pretty easy fix. Go buy a can of compressed air and blow all the dust out of your PS3. Right now that dust is acting as an insulator, so your PS3 gets hot and stays hot.

 

I'm going to do the same soon.

Thanks for all the input. I use compressed air on it every week so why it gets so hot I dont know. I think its just the fans on it are loose so it rattles back and forth. Who knows prolly just take it off if it doesnt help the PS anyway.

might just be where you have it make sure its got good breathing room and keep it dust free i just read up on the intercoolers bad stuff happens id just sell it at gamestop ebay works nicely

just a rumor i heard......but the intercooler does not help, it actually worsens the situation.

 

I leave my ps3 on an open area well ventilated and it is just fine.

 

BTW those coolers are ALWAYS noisy, they have a giant fan.

Definitely listen to everyones advice so far. The intercooler doesn't help your system at all. Even with compressed air a lot of dust stays inside and it just sucks all together anyways. Just leave it on top of your entertainment center or wherever you have it and brush the dust off every once in awhille and it'll be fine. Those things are junk tho so best bet is ebay the damn thing and have no more worries!

I also concur that the intercoolers are garbage. If yo udo use one, and would like to try and lube it, use a silicone based lubricant.

Bearings on those fans are Sealed and cannot be lubed. Take it off Like everyone else said The PS3 was designed without it. A thirdparty set up like that messes up the air flow more than it helps and drags more dust through the machine as well

Take the intercooler off and put ur ps3 on a laptop cooling bAse instead. u wont restrict air flow and u wont hear the noise as much.

 

i had the same one and it did the same as urs...noisy.

Well sounds to me like the damn thing just needs to come off. Thats all I need is to pay to have the damn thing fixed because of a POS fan. Thank you everybody for getting back to me on this.
