Good News For Xbox Fans

Attendees at Microsoft's annual E3 press conference are accustomed to flashy game announcements and big-budget trailers, but the company had a surprise in store at today's Los Angeles event. The Xbox 360 is getting a slimmer, angular new look, and an internal redesign that'll reduce noise and add much-wanted new features -- and it'll be in stores as soon as this week.

 

Packing a black-finished case with prominent cooling vents, the new machine -- nicknamed the Xbox "Slim" by fans -- will retail for $299, the same price as the current 120 GB Xbox 360 Elite system. It will be compatible with all Xbox 360 games and hardware, with the exception of old-style external hard drives and memory cards.

It's not any more powerful, but the redesigned 360 nevertheless addresses a number of recurring gripes with the existing design: aside from being smaller, it's quieter, includes built-in super-fast 802.11n wireless networking, and packs an internal, replaceable 250 GB hard drive.

 

It's also equipped with a smaller power supply, a dedicated connector for Microsoft's upcoming Kinect motion control system, and five USB ports. A matching black wireless controller will ship with the system.

 

Conflicting reports exist on whether the older models will remain on sale, but according to at least one specialist blog, the normally reliable Joystiq, Microsoft is indeed "no longer manufacturing the original Xbox 360 hardware in any form."

 

Alternatively, Microsoft is cutting prices of the existing Xbox range to $149 for the basic Arcade model, and $249 for the upgraded Elite. It's unclear whether that's a time-limited clearance offer, or if it'll be permanent -- but if you want to snag a cheap Xbox, and you're not too bothered about getting the brand-new Slim, this could be your chance.

They fixed that a long time ago.. If you are still getting it from a newer sytem or one that has been fixed you need to get your box out of the oven. lol

 

RROD is only a normal error now much like the YLOD on PS3. it still exists, but it is not a "Problem" anymore, just a notification that your system is fucked. ;D

 

 

 

PS. I'm loving the new system, i'll probably get one later this year when "Black Ops" gets released.

My new slim should be delivered to my front door this Thursday! Kinect was a pretty cool little gadget they introduced as well. And with the announcement of all the dlc for COD being available on xbox live months before the PS network, all I have to say is bye bye PlayStation.

Please tell me you kidding right ? Not only does PSN have more users then XBOX did you notice the fact we have more exclusive games,demos and features then XBOX ? You guys do get COD map packs before us I guess I'll just have to play my Socom 4, Killzone 3, Medal of Honor , GT 5, God of war 3, Assassins Creed Brotherhood MP beta and Twisted Metal while I wait lol.

 

Congrats on having Halo Reach and Gears 3 though but for some reason I think I'll still with my PlayStation you know the system that's more powerful, faster, operates on blue-ray and has had a slim model for what a year now oh not to mention the PS3 move is much cheaper and is already being said to be more accurate then the Kinect.

I think this year is for the ps3, but the 360 slim looks badass i gotta give them that. I'm not here to hate or anything. But i watched the Microsoft conference this year and it kinda sucked. you guys announced 2 big game and the early COD DLC agreement but other than that it sucked. Kenetic looks awesome, but i really want to see the actual price tag. If i ever buy a 360 it would be the slim but it better come with a bundle with the kenetic and it better be cheaper too. But i am most likely buying a 2nd ps3 this year and give my old to my brother.

I'm not going to have a fanboy argument right now, but the only reason why PSN has more users is because you can create like 100 accounts on every system. I bet that XBL has far more unique users than PSN.

I mostly buy my pc game in steam, unless the Cd version of the game comes with something cool or the case art is badass.

Crysis will be on PS3 in 3d Looks amazing... we did not even stop by the Microsoft booth, we just did not have enough time or bodies...

 

I will say that Medal of Honor is amazing as well and Activision only had private meeting rooms this year and basically told us to not bother with them... whole other story there.

 

We had a great time with Dice and EA though in the Medal of Honor Multiplayer room where one of our own "Owned" the Dev team and got awarded some Special Edition Oakley Sunglasses

 

We were not invited to the Microsoft Press conference unlike the others so we found out after the fact...

 

It is nice to see that XBox is two steps closer to PS3 by adding built in wireless and a slim model... its a shame that seem to stay behind... even Wiintendo release a 3DS...

Yes Operation flash point dragon rising. It was a simulation style shooter. Problem was it was a bad port the graphics were weak compared to the PC and the PC also featured a mission editor.

 

Crysis will be another game that will be better on PC and will be in 3d. In 3d on the PS3 I'm sure it will look good but I can pretty much guarantee there will be some features missing like mission editors etc.

 

Anyway congrats to the xboxers.

I liked the Xbox version of Civ, it was easier for my little brain to handle.. and even then its a bit too much for me at times. I get really lost in the PC version, but its fun. lol

 

Hell yeah I'll mark it on my calendar. I used to play civ 3 but kinda got away from pc gaming. It's time to make a come back I recently built a pretty beastly new machine and I'm ready to rock. Probably the biggest thing that killed it for me on the console was the shortened down game times. Everything was designed to only last about an hour so by the time you really started to get your civ built up the game would be ending. I missed the fine tuning of your civ and having massive battles with multiple other civs. It does have a pretty steep learning curve but that's part of the fun.

So when did 3D become the benchmark of online gaming? 3D is a fad. It always has been and always will be. 3D is nothing but a gimmick.

 

I don't see how they seem to stay behind because they decide to do a little something called Kinect instead of support 3D. Looks like everyone is forgetting how much more the 360 offers than any other console on the market. Even though the PS3 is now catching up to the 360 (it took them long enough), the 360 easily sets the bar when it comes to added services to the 360. Everything is better on the 360 than it is on the PS3. The 360 seems to keep adding more to their Gold service, while Playstation Plus is Sony's ATTEMPT at following 360's footsteps.

 

I don't know about you guys, but I don't get a boner when people mention 3D. 3D is just going to be another one of those things that try to make shitty games look better since everyone will be all hyped by 3D. I'm glad Microsoft decided not to follow the tracks of the others and decided to go even further with Kinect.
