Socom 4 Multiplayer Trailer available 4/19/2011

Recommended Posts

Graphics look nice, but nothing in this game except the name says SOCOM.

How come you keep saying that? What about this video bothers you?

And don't get me wrong, I am really curious on everyones thoughts and feeling after seeing this video and hearing about some of the games specs. Especially from SOCOM vets.

I have watched the videos, I like what I see from that aspect. I have read blogs and listened to podcasts from the guys who went to Zipper and played this game. They basically said if it were just a new game it would be good, but since it is called SOCOM, the veterans will not be happy.

- They have no more pistols, its all dual primary weapons. Thats a Sniper with a M-82 and a M-4. That is not SOCOM.

- They have grenade throwing like Halo, no arc, very inacurate. COnfrontation maybe??? Not SOCOM.

- No lobbies. You can create a party, but what about meeting old friends and/foes and just plain talking old times in the lobby before the next round? THis says MAG or COD, not SOCOM.

- No Breach, Escort, Demo? We have capture the flag? Hello MAG, not SOCOM.

- weapons perks and unlocks is COD and MAG, Not SOCOM.

- 3rd person Camera view is more like Ghost Recon, not classic style SOCOM, soooooo not SOCOM.

- Can't lean or jump to climb? Not SOCOM

Their impressions of the game............ "More negative than positive", "Unique shooter", "definitely and all new experience" "not SOCOM"

Correct me if I am wrong here Bull, but didn't all the SOCOM vets just want another great SOCOM game based on the past games we loved? We don't want a new gaming experience, we want classic SOCOM!

copying my socom forums post on this:

While I agree with a lot of the complaints posted here, we need to realize Zipper and Sony are in the business of making $, not making a HD Socom2 to please the small socom fanbase. Every COD that comes out is making a billion dollars worldwide, with millions of players, and Sony/Zipper needs to market and develop the game to cut into that fan base to survive, hence the respawn/killstreak mode. We should be thankful that we even have a classic mode honestly... they spent time on this and the clan support just for us. No other titles even consider clan support other than a tag. HD Socom2 just won't appeal to the masses (non-socom diehards) and generate this kind of $.

Are you really going to complain about unlocking stuff? Hardcore socomers will play the crap out of this and unlock everything quickly anyway. Not really an issue.

I'm a little upset about no lobbies, but I'm willing to wait and see what the clan support / matchmaking is like before I lose my head over that. Other titles the party/matchmaking always seem to have issues. I'll wait to see how well this works before flaming it.

No demo? really? Hmm... something tells me demo is the "game mode to be named later", or one of the new modes released with the first DLC. Don't blame Zipper, I'm sure Sony pushed this on them.

I'm taking a wait and see approach right now.

edit: no hot guns, the 2 min "see your enemy location/name" needs to go. hot gun needs a comeback.

T-Bird, I like to hear from SOCOM vets, since I only know Confrontation. And I mean this wholeheartedly, no sarcasm.

But I think what is highlighted in red is exactly right. I actually made the same statement on RVN forums even before reading this.

And I believe that's what you guys wanted, but there just isn't enough SOCOM vets and Socrack heads to support spending millions of dollars on developing a game just for them. Obviously that doesn't make sense.

You have to keep in mind, that this game is already losing out on two huge markets that games like CoD have access to. Like General said, they have to make a game that appeals to the whole Playstation community. So it appears they have made a game that is a mix of SOCOM, MAG, and CoD. Which I kinda like. I love all those games.

Also, I bet there will be all the same game types that SOCOM fans want. They're all in MAG, they just have different names.

Curious tbird, in your eyes would anything other than socom2 HD be a sellout? (or 3 3/ca hd)

Zipper made a classic mode just for the original socom fanbase. They flew 18 forum regulars out to check out the game and get their opinion. Was it a PR stunt? We'll see... when the game ships we'll have to revisit what changes and suggestions the 18 made, and see how many actually made it into the final product.

I just don't see them "selling out" persay. I do think many people will agree with you. I also think that anything short of socom2HD is "selling out" for most of you.

Sold out? Hmmm? I'm not even sure you can use that term for a video game maker. I would say that they have to change with what is popular. The need to make as much money as possible.

Like General said, I think you SOCOM vets should be happy that they even included a classic mode. They could have made a TPS MAG as they were originally thinking.

Check this out from the MAG blog:

2. MAG began its life as a SOCOM game. Originally, we had planned to make MAG a part of the SOCOM universe. In fact, its first working title was “SOCOM: MAG.†As the game began to take shape, however, it became apparent that what MAG was growing into was much different than SOCOM. The gameplay design, while still somewhat-tactical, continued to become less “SOCOM-like.†The emphasis on character progression and large-scale multiplayer battles with three completely different PMCs sealed the deal, and MAG happily spun off into its own universe.

1. MAG started as a third-person shooter. Because it started as a SOCOM title, MAG was a third-person shooter for a good portion of its development cycle. When the first MAG trailer was shown at E3 2008, for instance, the game was still planned as a TPS (and the teaser hints at it pretty strongly). As we continued to refine MAG, however, and pull it father away from its SOCOM beginnings, we moved it into the first-person realm to help differentiate it even more. After we played it, when knew absolutely that going first-person was the right choice for the game and the rest, as they say, is history!

Like I posted on Irish's forums, the only thing that scares the hell out of me are the lack of lobbies. While some of the other things don't seem to be Socom styled, I'm going to wait until I've played it to decide if those other things are deal breakers. Hell after Confrontation, EVERYONE should be excited.

Look I think SOCOM 2 had plenty of flaws as well. MAny people bitched about it when we played it, people bitched about SOCOM 3 and CA. Confrontation is similar to those games, but they changed a few key things that were in SOCOM, so everyone thinks it sucks.

I think we need to move forward, we need new styles. Modern technology is great. There are just so many things not at all related to SOCOM in this game. The whole point here is why name the game SOCOM and not make the game at least resemble SOCOM? If Zipper said "Look we are not going to make another SOCOM game, but we are making a new SPEC OPs game that will appeal to a broad base of people. We are implementing a small amount of what we had in SOCOM along with what seems to appeal to the new age of gamers (ie COD).", I think everyone would embrace and love the new SPEC Ops game. When you tell us you are coming out with SOCOM 4 and the only resembling feature is third person and the game name, I hope you can understand a fans frustration.

All the COD guys keep buying that game and they are all the same game with new perks and a few updates. That is what we were expecting out of SOCOM and everyone wants to dog us out about it. All they need are a few simple things that are SOCOM to make us happy.........

We like lobbies, we get to meet new people, make friends, recruit players and make alliances between clans. We like to make our own rooms with lobbies to have wars against our alliances and play against our new recruits and friends. Sometimes we just like to sit in the lobby and make fun of each other. Whatever we are doing in there, we like having lobbies.

We like camping out a draw for a win. I know not everyone likes camping or strategy, but sometimes in a war against a tough opponent a draw can lead to a huge win. When your last guy is out numbered 4-1 and he has no life left after taking out 3 of the 4 remaining enemy, only to have the game give away his position with 2 minutes left you, you can't tell me he deserves that loss.

We like Demo, Breach and Hostages. THese have always been in SOCOM and now they are not. Demo probably will, but many Vets love breach as well.

Those are the main things that have me upset about the game. I have listed a few others such as the Grenade arc, Dual primary Weapons and the perk thing.

The evolving thing is not what the problem is, it is simply removing all of the SOCOM out of the game and still calling it SOCOM. At this point I would love for Slant 6 to have an opportunity to redeem themselves.

So like I said, this may be the game of the year, the game play looks awesome. I will buy it and I hope it's good. However, IT IS NOT SOCOM and that is what makes me mad. So when I post and run this game down, it is simply because they named it SOCOM and it's nothing like SOCOM.

I am not great with words, but I hope you guys can understand where I am coming from.

cool man, I appreciate the detail in your post here. The main problems I've listed are basically the same as yours, no lobbys (but I'll wait and see) although I don't see how I'll ever get to recruit randoms now..., no demo, no gun hot. Totally agree on camping a draw to win... who wouldn't? no dual primaries, and I'll miss the other game modes as well.

this game will carry the socom title because of name recognition, and because sony hired zipper to make a new socom. and it is similar to socom, just different in some ways. I hope they do change a few things before launch. what I think is possible would be:

* add demo (if it's not the "mode to be named later" i'm sure it will be in the 1st dlc, but I don't want to wait)

* ditch dual primaries (even if everyone has the same handgun so be it)

* ditch the "2 minute i can see you bs". if you can't add gun hot I understand, just don't make everyone visible because it's 2 mins.

I'm pretty sure the game the "18" played will be the one we see on 4/19. I don't see them changing much, but we can only hope.

A few minor tweaks and this could be close to "classic socom".
