[-VR-] Withdrawing from UF Tournament Play

Recommended Posts

We at Violent Revolution, with heavy and disappointed hearts, are withdrawing from Urgent Fury Tournament play. Due to a recent ruling allowing a team using proven ringers to remain in the tournament, we collectively feel that this is a smack in the face to the core community that grew UF to what it is today. We are the clans that value UF's proclamation of "Honor, Integrity, and Loyalty" and we feel that AIEL acted without Honor and the Integrity of the league was shattered by the Directors in ignoring their staff in this ruling. This shows the level of commitment and Loyalty they have towards the community faithful who partake in this tournament and stand against cheaters, glitchers, and other clans/players who need those types of crutches in order to secure a win or sully the tournament once caught.

Our core values as a clan dictate that we can't play in an environment heavily reliant on self-policing, that values potential financial bottom line over an honorable gaming haven.

Sony: We're Kicking Cheaters and Pirates Off PSN posted by Thom Holwerda on Wed 16th Feb 2011 23:24 UTC

42.gifYou'd almost forget it, but a few weeks ago, the Playstation 3 was hacked wide open - like a pristine cave deep in the world of Minecraft. This has let out all sorts of nasties, and now Sony is trying to clean up the mess. For once, I'm in full agreement with their position. The original hackers who cracked the Playstation 3 focussed entirely on homebrew applications and games. They did not put in any code or mechanisms to allow pirated games to run, or to allow cheating. Of course, with freedom comes abuse, and other hackers have added the ability to cheat and run pirated games.

This is bad. Very bad. Unlike what some might think, I don't actually approve of piracy, and most certainly not of software. I consider the act of pirating music, film and TV an interim solution until the widely ignored, destructive, and wholly out-of-date copyright laws are amended to reflect the modern age. Of course, for many of us Europeans, downloading music, films, and TV is perfectly legal.

While cheating in a game is also perfectly fine by me, it's not fine if this happens on public servers. If you want to hook up a bunch of Playstations together, then cheat all you want. However, the majority doesn't want to cheat, and as such, Sony is well within its rights to kick hacked Playstation 3s of the Playstation Network - and that's exactly what their statement, uh, states.

"Consumers using circumvention devices or running unauthorized or pirated software will have access to the PlayStation Network and access to Qriocity services through PlayStation 3 system terminated permanently," Sony states, "To avoid this, consumers must immediately cease use and remove all circumvention devices and delete all unauthorized or pirated software from their PlayStation 3 systems."

Of course, Sony is a massive hypocrite here, since apparantly it's okay to steal from consumers (OtherOS) but not the other way around. Well, at least this policy is good for the overwhelming majority of PS3 owners who couldn't give a creeper's bum about al this stuff.

This is the same thing if Sony is kicking cheaters and hackers why can't Urgent Fury?

What would you prefer? For me to ask you to stay? Did I want you guys to back out? Not at all... No pride in that at all but you made your choice... So only thing I could offer was a goodbye. PEACE!

PRIDE = the quality or state of being proud

  1. I had to swallow my pride and admit I made a mistake.

These young people are the pride of their community

so if ur implying that we have no PRIDE ur wrong.....PRIDE went down hill when the acused had the thought and went throught with there plan knowing full well it was wrong and went against what was right..IMO .playing alongside peeps who have no values and can't even follow "WIN with HONOR, LOSE with DIGNITY" - This motto is more than just a motto. It is a way of life here at Urgent Fury. We expect each and every clan as well as each and every one of their members to not only know this motto but to adhere to it as well....

PRIDE goes along way...the tourny has been tainted now...

i think that banner needs to be a tad bit bigger for all the kids to see!!!

WIN being decitful LOSE cause u weren't..

this is the motto we will live by until the end of days

  • 2 weeks later...

Ive thought all weekend what I would say in this post. How do I summarize all the good times, all the bad, and my intentions for the future? It seems like just yesterday I was introduced to this concept in online gaming...a cheat free environment where the rules were followed and relished instead of manipulated and scorned. I have some of my best gaming experiences here at Urgent Fury. I remember the first Ronin tourney where Maverick and I had a 1.5 hour campfest on MW. My heart pounded, my palms were sweaty...whomever won would go to the semi's, and we both wanted it ferociously. I remember the first Horseman tourney and how intense they were...they made Socom Confrontation bearable. If that isn't a glowing review then I don't know what is.

Then I remember the change of hands and the promise of a bright new future. I remember drinking the koolaid and helping out. I remember failed tournaments and just misses...I remember alot of events that transpired I wish wouldn't have happened. It occurred to me recently that things were on a collision course with failure, and I ceased to want to be apart of it. These thoughts came before the bungle occurred with In Country and before the removal of my staff position, and even before Shane felt it necessary to peruse my PM's to ensure I wasn't causing a second Revolution. They came before each VR member was removed from the Rangers. They came when I saw the divide between the three Directors and how desperate two were to remove the one from power. They came when I realized that the goals of the Directors for the future of UF was not congruent with the motto of Urgent Fury. The luring of major sponsors to UF only meant that UF would be forced to do things the way the sponsors saw fit. Sure during initial talks everything would be 'oh thats a great concept' and 'this fits what were looking for' but when the actual go time comes it would be 'We need more participants' and 'open up to expansion'. I realized then...I don't WANT expansion. If I wanted that I would be playing in a larger arena. If adding random clans to tournaments was something I desired, I would be at GB or another anyone can join tourney site. Its the fact that UF was exclusive that always drew me back. I want to get online and know my opponents. Maybe I'm just too old for this anymore, but thats what I loved about UF.

Tow can come in and say something poetic that smacks of old school Tow, but he is the smart one. He sold when the time was right and when stock was at its highest. The writing was on the wall, and I say bravo Jay. Now you couldn't get a box of cracker jacks and a #2 pencil for this place. While all thats being said, his clan *****es about UF on their forums, as we all do. Hell, I've heard from Staffers HERE that Shane is on damage control and is spreading rumors that I have done all this on purpose and have planned to create a tournament site for 6 months now. See Shane, difference between me and you is that I don't NEED to spread rumors. I have your actions and fact well on my side. What I do is my business, and I won't bother with the details here. I respect the old school enough to not break your rules. I won't talk about what was in Staff section not because of a non-disclosure agreement that would never stand up in court (notice I signed it 'Tool_Minion'?) but because it was never necessary to begin with. I respect the efforts of Staff. I understand why some things need to remain behind closed doors.

Violent Revolution officially withdraws from future Urgent Fury tournaments. Some of you will be missed, others I hope to never cross paths with again. In the end, I hope the Urgent Fury directors take a deep look at what they bought and what they've done to it. I can't understand whats so hard about remembering it's simply a video game, and that we are SUPPOSED TO BE HAVING FUN. VR will get that back.

I promise.
