Food For Thought

Through the years, December has become an annual pilgrimage of deep reflection for me. A time when the noise of the world quiets, family and friends embrace, and the truths that have culminated in our lives since last are shared. Each year stacking into the next like the chapters of an epic book, building the story that our sons and daughters will tell theirs.

This December I watched my baby brother celebrate his early 20's with arms wide open. Of the many relevancies, one of them was the pioneering TS social network experience I welcomed into my life for the first time. Who knew that a decade later the impact of that experience, and the rooted impressions felt today, would be so transformative.

Collectively, the following content tells a story of truths that through direct application, remain as powerful today as they were upon spawn. Over the last year, I have discovered profound purpose through its living message. And so it is, that I feel compelled to share them with you.

Merry Christmas, and may the New Year manifest blessings abound...

"I have come to warn you against feeding on the ideas and false teachings of those who market in religion. In vain such people worship me teaching as doctrines what are merely the inventions of men."

• Jesus Christ

"More fundamental than religion is our basic human spirituality. We have a basic human disposition towards love, kindness and affection, irrespective of whether we have a religious framework or not. When we nurture this most basic human resource – when we set about cultivating those basic inner values which we all appreciate in others, then we start to live spiritually."

• Dalai Lama

“There are many dimensions to each individual existence that transcend the interpretation of their reality, to which humility and grace can alter the course of their destiny; that the difference between difficult and impossible is a matter of education, interpretation, and intervention.â€

• Christopher F. Manacci

“How can we become prepared to learn from the path we find or make in the world, that is, to be practitioner-scholars?†I believe to answer this accurately it is important to first underscore that a metaphysical assimilation primer need be utilized, and that a genuine ‘fire-belly’ is required to facilitate total quality. With this in mind, how one receives, synthesizes, and distills ideas, information, and action is proportionate not only to individual aptitudes, resources and the like, but more importantly to the level of ones willingness to serve and to be of service. It is my experience that through servanthood we discover, and are able to decipher the unique and interconnecting blueprint inherited – Purpose. This understanding, merged with a resolute ‘fire-belly,’ yields an autonomous refining and honing of ones ability to receive and interpret the moment’s design – Truth’s clearinghouse. To ensure that I am in a constant state of preparedness, accurately positioned to receive input into the design, I must remain willing to be of service in all of my affairs."

• Justin Bastian

"The School of Hard Knocks is not a place for anyone who is lazy, myopic, or egocentric. I believe it requires that we find the reverence, humility, and courage to work and learn with others who bring different perspectives to a situation. With such colleagues, we can achieve the the kind of sustained engagement and honest collaborative reflection that gives us visibility into and inescapable accountability for the consequences of our assumptions, decisions, and actions."

• Dr. Gary Riccio

“The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, the education, the money, than circumstances, than failure, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company, a church... a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past - we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. And so it is with you... we are in charge of our Attitudes.â€

• Charles R. Swindoll

"Here's to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes... the ones who see things differently -- they're not fond of rules... You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can't do is ignore them because they change things... they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do."

• Steve Jobs

"I think there are two phases, the first being the one where you are just picking up signals from the ether. Ideas aggregate over time and then pop out one day when you are in the shower. I think the second phase is deciding 'Ok, I'm going to actually pursue this given thing.' And then once you have decided, it's a different mindset from that point forward. At least with that particular idea, because you have to become more rational, more logical, more disciplined. It's less about receiving and it's more about synthesizing and distilling and then ultimately producing."

• Jonathan Harris

"Self-made men are the men who, under peculiar difficulties and without help, attained knowledge, usefulness, power and position. They owe little to birth, relationships, favorable surroundings; or wealth inherited. Who are what they are, without the aid of favoring conditions, arise and achieve great results. They are indebted to themselves, for themselves."

• Frederick Douglass

"If virtue and knowledge are diffused among the people, they will never be enslaved. This will be their great security.â€

• Samuel Adams

“There is a principle which is a bar against all information, which is proof against all arguments, and which cannot fail to keep a man in everlasting ignorance—that principle is contempt prior to investigation.â€

• *Herbert Spencer

If you are familiar with the Socom Forums or TheRealSocom.com then this post from Mr. Blue would not seem as odd, he is quite the philosopher
