Massive List of Features for MAG

Recommended Posts

I don't care if this game is a FPS, it sounds awesome. Regardless if your a fan of FPS or TPS, you cannot deny that this list sounds amazing.

M.A.G. (Massive Action Game) has been on everyone's radar lately, mainly due to it's claim to support 256-player online gameplay on a console. Some information regarding the title has been leaked, and here it is:

- 2 to 256 Players

- 'hopes' for 30FPS when all the action is going down at all times

- Dedicated servers with new network architectures to help reduce lag

- Streamline matches to reduce need to wait.

- All audio cues (planes flying by, air raid sirens) are actual players causing it or player triggered actions. This can happen in other regions and you can hear in distance.

- PunkBuster quality cheating detection. System tests for things like rate of fire/movement/damage to keep things in check

- First Person view only

- Set 20 years in future, 3 major PMCs bid for war. The power struggle of these 3 dubbed Shadow War

3 Factions, only 2 announced now: Raven(high tech weapons, most trained soldiers on planet. Will appeal to Halo/Resistances fans). Sver(fierce fighters from middle east/central Asia area. Battle harden warriors)

- 256-player Domination mode. Attackers and defenders. Outer layer of defense and inner layer. Once through the outer layer 'hell breaks loose'. Anti-aircraft and radar are vulnerable. If your faction wins alot it gets the contract for that game mode and gets XP bonuses and perks.

- 3 other game modes: Acquisition(128 player escort-style mode. Steal 2 prototype armored transports and bring to extraction zone). Sabotage(64player, control 2 points for X time then a demolition objective is revealed which must be destroyed). Suppression(64 player team deathmatch)

- Customize face, voice, armor.

- No soldier class system, but has a free-form kit creation. Can save 3 different load-outs. Depending on your choice of weapons, it can be told by looking at you so others can tell. Change your load-out to match how the battle is going.

- Snipers can get more than normal XP for killing people in designated areas of importance

- Ranking up gives access to new weapons/perks/leadership positions.

- Recognizes issues with large scale maps and the traveling.

- 8 players in a squad, 4 squads in a platoon, 4 platoons in a company (US Military)

- Certain goals for each squad/platoon etc. Have secondary goals like blowing bridges.

- Veteran ranks can enlist into leadership roles, give orders to their squad, then platoon, then their company(OIC)

- Officer only communication channel to help organize the battle

- Want to be approachable to casual yet have alot of features for the hardcore.

- Developers have been running 256 player tests since Nov. 08 and plans to have closed/open betas.

Talk about tactical!! holy tactics batman!

I agree FPS only! that sucks.. and what about command recon.. I mean ok the officers get to coordinate on their own channel.. but since it appears they are trying to get as close to realistic battle scenarios.. then high ranking officers don't run around on the field. They issue orders from a command station and use communication and intel along with map details, GPS and Satellite reconnaissance. Knowing the field, access to maps and intel along with accurate tracking of troop movement is essential for effective battle planning and deployment... I don't see how looking at a area in front of you in First person view going only by radio chatter to keep track of troop movement will make implementing any coordinated attack plan effective.

If the goal is to multiplayer large teams against one another within a command structure then I'm not sure how that will work? My guess is it won't and these 128 vs 128 modes will be nothing more than a cluster fuk.

Still though its going to be fun finding out and it appears it all looks great on paper. If they manage to get it to work the way they are hoping it will.. this is going to be a blast. So far other attempts at this level of multiplayer game play hasn't been very successful. I hope it works since I'd love to play this game, but I'm not going to get too excited about it until I can actually play it.

seems like no one ever played BF2

BF2 was FPS and it had commander, 64v64 and it was fun, not chaotic but actually tactical and fun.

As for the large clans well i guess mergers or go into more than just clans and into gaming communities or something, i mean when i played BF2 i was in a clan with like over 200 people, lol.

But what i like more is the punkbuster for catching cheaters and hackers. The dedicated servers should do fine as long as people are paying for them that is.

Also, why do you need TPS for the game to be tactical?

Now where is my beta!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well if this is going to be FPS only...that proves one thing to me. SOCOM will die with Confrontation. If zipper is taking on a huge complicated project that will be a FPS only game, they are no longer going to carry the franchise back to TPS. It will truly be a shame, but this is looking like the end of SOCOM. Just my opinion.

I REALLY don't see that happening. It would be dearly impossible to keep track of that many members in one clan, let alone have that many be active.

i agree with vicarious. if some UF clans were to merge on this game it would be pretty cool. The clan leaders could be platoon leaders. Clan officers in each clan would be squad leaders. that would just be sick. that is the only way i could see 128v128 in a clan war. and yeah splinter, that would be fun trying to check that roster for a war.
