I don't think it's a beak. It looks like where the flesh has rotted away from the teeth and the jaw area. Look at the pictures on the websites they quote in that article.

its not beak, nor flesh. Thats just the view of the jaw from the top that has been stripped of flesh. Its like looking at the skull of a bear or cow and seeing the front part of the jaw from the top. It seems though that the front has only bone left (nasal area of skull) but from the eyes back flesh remained, which is weird and gives it a weird look, or the look of a beak.
