Anyone been to Cozumel?

Recommended Posts

Good rule of thumb in Mexico.. Stay on the resorts for the better beaches (or go way, WAY away from them)

Unless you want to feel like you're at the swap meet.

Also dont drink the water. lol

I think i'd be more excited about the french quarter too.!! (I've never been there)

Scuba is more fun. I love me some scuba.

definitley mate so much more to see then just being on the surface as far as beaches hippie cant tell ya havent been there but yea snorkel it away or dive if your certified ;D have a blast and dont worry about the ship fallen over :-\

I would love to snorkel, but I don't go under water. It's a HUGE FEAR of mine that I have yet to overcome...and I don't like water in my ears, either. I know, I'm a weirdo.

The beach I'm leaning towards is Nachi Cocom. They have an all-inclusive deal and they only allow 100 visitors at any given time. And, you can't book it through the cruise. I'm looking for relaxation, not drunken party time and it looks like this beach is just that.

UNDER the water or IN the water...?

Snorkeling is floating on top looking down at all the coral & sea life. (Its very relaxing)

Scuba is under water... way under if you want, but i am with you on that one. I dont want to ever be so far away from the surface that i would never make it back up in time. lol

Years ago (back in 2000-2001), I worked for Celebrity Cruises and used to port in Cozumel every other week for 26 weeks. They've changed the town a lot since I was working there, and some ships now actually get to port at a downtown pier. We used to port at a terminal outside of downtown, about a 5 min cab ride (or a decent walk) to the south of downtown.

We (the staff from the ship) used to go to place called The Reef Club. Since we ported at the terminal that wasn't downtown, it was in the opposite direction that all the guests were traveling. They used to have a daily rate for visitors, and better a deal for us on the ships ($10 a day, all-inclusive). It was also rarely busy, even though we were going during November to May. Now, with all that being said, I don't even know if it is still in business, or if they still offer a day rate.

It wasn't that far away, but was a decent cab ride. I assume that you're going to have people to split the ride with? It's far enough away that you should arrange a time to be picked up by your driver when he's dropping you off.

Anyways, have a good time. Oh, and if you port downtown, have a drink at Carlos & Charlie's before you get back on board. You may not be looking for a party, but this place is a lot of fun, even in the middle of the afternoon.

Taking a cruise in October that stops in Cozumel. Anyone been? I'm wondering what beaches are the best. Looking at Nochi Cocom and Mr. Sanchos. Any suggestions?

I was just there on Tuesday of this week. What we did was rent a Jeep and take ourselves around the island. We stopped at the Tequila Tour(I highly recommend) and bought a few bottles of their blend which was great! Then we hit Coco Nuts which is another great place, they have Cuban Cigars and great foot. It overlooks the ocean and it's got a real local feel. Then if you head west from there about 2 miles down they have the best beaches on the whole island.

Chili, I don't go UNDER water.

Hammer, the only Reef club I found was with the Wyndham and I do believe you have to stay there to use their facilities...at least that's what I could figure out last week when I looked at it.

And Covert, did you book the jeep ahead of time? What was the name of the rental company? How much was it? Sorry for all the questions...we were thinking about doing this. There are 10 of us total and I think it would be much easier to get around if we have a couple of rental vehicles.

That is the same Reef Club judging by the pictures I found. I did come across a press release from 2007 that mentioned they had been added to the Wyndham family of hotels. As far as "day passes," I couldn't find anything on their website either. If you're thinking about it, I would shoot them an email (either guest services or maybe even the group manager) to see if they would offer you something even if they don't normally do that anymore. A group of ten might catch their attention.

With a large group it is nice to have things planned out before you go, but the best source of information is going to be the staff on the ship. They know where to go to "get away from it all," and have a good time. Don't bother with your room steward or waiter - they work all the time - ask they people that run the activities on board. The "cruise staff" are usually good as you see them at all the events and they are easy to socialize with, but the best source of info is often the Casino Dealers as the casino is closed in ports.

Great! Thanks for the info.
