Yep and I would say that's a good choice for sammy's go with the stores warranted or extension plan.

For a dealer like myself, I can't do that. I buy straight from the manufacture or distribution center. Can you imagine doing a sports bar or something, you open up brand new TV's for mounting and you have to tell the customer, sorry six of your twelve TV's need to go in for repair..

They don't want to hear that shit, they want twelve tv's working on opening day. And I don't blame them, From a sound business point of view I simply cannot afford to use Samsung given the way they DO NOT stand behind their own product, Panny, Tosh, Sony, sharp.. all would immediately replace the units with brand new ones.. no questions asked.. given that why take a risk with a sammy..

Of course that's from a commercial point of view, for an end user it may very well be a good deal..

I'm not saying you're wrong on Samsung because I really have no idea. However as a company how can they afford to take that approach. If you open a TV brand new from the box and it doesn't work I can't imagine a company saying "tough luck".....especially when it's within it's 1 year warranty.

  2. Goat ]

Lots of units with four HDMI inputs..

Tos 42RV535U, Tos all of sizes in the XV535U series. Sharp AQUOS Series, Sony Bravia KDL series, and your Samsung A530.

On the contrast ratio.. that’s a ploy 50k to 1.. yeah but DYNAMIC not NATIVE.. its sort of like zoom ratio for a camera there is zoom and then there is digital zoom.. you want to know the NATIVE contrast ratio, you could give a shit less what the dynamic ratio is.

Like I’ve said with Sammy’s it’s a crap shot, I do hope you get a good one, because like was mentioned in another post, with Samsung if the unit doesn’t work right out of the box.. too bad its’ yours they won’t take it back.. which for me is reason enough to not buy their product

However most stores will. In my case i purchased the 4 year protection plan from BB to avoid dealing with the company all together. I have the a650 and he has the a630 not the a530.

I read that too. BUt saw a lot of people complaining on bestbuy reviews and amazon.

Well I bought this TV because of all the "GOOD" reviews' date=' I dismissed the few bad reviews as flukes. Well I loved the TV, then about a month into it the screen crapped out, still in the shop getting fixed they have to replace the whole LCD panel. They say it will be 3 more weeks till I get it back. I thought this was a good brand but I guess not. The TV will be in the shop longer then in my living room. I have called the service center twice, the first time to tell them the TV was broke, the second today to express my displeasure with the time it will take to fix the problem. My problem is that if this happens one month from buying this P.O.S. what will happen in 2 years. I asked if maybe i got a lemon and they tried to sell me an extended warranty. This really made me real mad, as if I was gonna drop a couple hundred more into this piece of junk, what a joke. If I could do it over I would not have purchased this set, I have learned my lesson never buy SAMSUNG. Hope this helps someone I hardly ever write reviews.

I bought this TV in August and it has developed a couple of red pixels. Anyone else has similar experience?

Just a little warning about their warranty policy. Samsung doesn't replace broken TVs even if they are brand new. I bought this TV and within 1 day there was vertical lines showing up. Within 1 week there were several different color lines. Samsung contacted a local TV repair to fix it and I was not impressed with the repair shop. They wanted to order a new LCD panel to replace it which would take 2 weeks just to come in. I was already out the TV 2 weeks. I said forget it and return it back to me so I can just return it back to amazon within the 30day return policy. I do not want a brand new TV that has been taken a part and possibly fixed correctly.

I purchased this TV and exchanged it because I had flashlighting and clouding all over the TV and in the corners, which made watching movies annoying. My second TV is even worse. Unless this TV has a break in period, which the manufacturer says it doesn't, and it gets fixed, i will return it. I wouldn't buy this again.

I bought the 650 and had problems with it 3 weeks after I got it the picture quality sucked. I returned it and got the 630 and had the best superbowl party of my life.

I bought this one - http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8955302&st=samsung+40&lp=4&type=product&cp=1&id=1216424111160 yesterday evening. I heard some bad reviews about the a650 so I decided to go with the a630. LOVE IT

Bad reviews on the a650? They're almost the same TV. The differences are the screen on the a630 is matte and the screen on the a650 is glossy. The a650 has more HDMI ports and a better contrast ratio. The a630 is a great TV but the a650 is the better of the two unless you want the matte screen. Pretty much the same TV so I'm not sure what "bad reviews" you read but those same reviews no doubt apply to the a630 as well.

EDIT: Great choice though. I was going to get the a630 until I started reading about the a650 and the better contrast ratio and extra HDMI port.

    :D

Well take it from me someone that researched for 2 months via consumer reports, avs forums, c-net and anywhere else I could find on the internet the TV's are identical only the a650 has 4 HDMI ports, a 50,000:1 contrast ratio and a glossy screen. The a630 has 3 HDMI, 40,000:1 and a matte screen. Good choice and enjoy your TV.

I dont think the demo is worth the trouble of creating a new account, Its only like 3 mins. of a mission and 5 mins. of them saying how great the game is. I have to agree with sharkbait aiming is not very smooth and it seems blurry when you run or move gun fast. I think the demo was enough for me to say no to buying this game. expected alot more out of a game for 09.

Hmmm. SO much for the "best shooter ever" tag everyone keep throwing around. Sounds like it is very similar to the first one. :P

Yea, sounds like a lot of hype. Haze got this kinda of hype too, and fell flat after it released.

However the difference between KZ2 and Haze is Haze wasn't getting good reviews from the major media outlets. IGN has already give KZ2 a 9.4 and a few other major sites have followed suit. The recent gameplay trailers look awesome so I'll wait and see how the final build comes to fruition before I pass judgment. Best Demo I've played in a while was/is F.E.A.R 2

  6. BIGDANIEL ]

I just bought a new TV and my old one did not support HDMI either. While component cables are better than RCA's, HDMI, IMO, is better than component cables.

I use a 60 mhz HDMI on my satellite receiver and a 120 mhz HDMI on my PS3. I swapped them back and forth when I first got them and I can see s light difference between the two when playing games and watching Blu-Rays. But they are both, again IMO, much better than component cables.

HDMI is much better than component cables. Go to http://www.monoprice.com and order a set of 3992's they're something like 5 dollars a piece and fantastic cables. One of the biggest markups in consumer electronics is accessories and cables. I believe Best Buy for example has a 75% mark up on cables....

its funny you bring up Madden cause I was a huge Madden gamer until people kept doing the juke glitch online LOL.

Yea I would love for them to make things right but with Sony losing money and the economy running like a brick shithouse I just cant see it.

I hear what youre saying about the flaws but they were requested to be pointed out, by Cynical ;D

I stopped playing the rest of 09 for a few reasons. They completely ruined the "user end" of the game. I can snag user picks like crazy but the user catch is all but gone. You can't touch pass to save your life so if you're trying to drop a ball on a cover 2 or any defense for that matter its damn near impossible to lob. The defense tips a TON of balls in via those tips ridiculous INT"s often occur AND they finally fix the lack of blocking on punts and kick offs but do to such a degree that it's too damn easy to get long ass returns.

As far as Killzone 2 is concerned it looks awesome. I also played the F.E.A.R 2 demo for the first time today and MAN what a awesome Demo and sure to be a awesome game. I can't stop playing it.

If it costs money I'm going to be paying and I'm sure many will do the same. If the game is so ridiculously flawed why are so many of us still playing it? out of principle? some sort of hard lined hate? 6.) The doom and gloom belongs over at the SCEA boards....

1.) I have stated that I still love the game and am enjoying it but at the same time I can still point out the obvious failures. I can also point out the appalling effort to reel in more money while they sold an original defective product and gave us two failed patches.

2.) I can already tell that this is your first socom from the sheer defensiveness coming from your posts. Obviously there are some things you can not and will not understand when reading our complaints because you have not experienced past games. But just because we have some complaints doesnt mean we are not enjoying the graphics and other positive things to come from /6.

3.) Dont you find it a little sad that they are asking /6 to airbrush old maps instead of making new maps. This may be because /6 failed in making their maps. Fallen might be the only good one and that has plenty of flaws as well. I personally would love to see an advancement in maps instead of playing the same maps for over 5 years.

4.) Just because I dont have my eyes closed doesnt mean that im a doom and gloomer. Once again you are most likely looking at our complaints in this light due to the fact that you are new to the series while the rest of us have seen better output on an inferior system.

    5.) Wanna buy a bridge??

6.) Adult conversation that contains two differing opinions has a place at any board....

I'm all for adult conversation and maybe came across a little ignorant in my previous post. What I meant with the "doom and gloom" comment is all people do on SCEA is bitch and moan, we all know the flaws that exist with Confrontation I don't see the point in discussing the obvious. I did play Socom 1 and 2 just not anywhere close to as often as I'm currently playing confrontation. I understand I'm out of the loop in that regard and a little more forgiving because of it. However I'm also not naive. I consider myself a pretty hardcore Madden Gamer and have grown pretty frustrated with that franchise as I'm sure you are frustrated with Confrontation so believe me I understand why you feel the way you feel. I hate this years Madden but years prior I looked past the obvious flaws because I was still enjoying the game and playing it on a daily basis.

I guess what I'm saying is there isn't really a point to constantly pointing out the games flaws when we know they exist and seeing as Slant 6 is new to the series I don't think it's far fetched they would try and make things right with free DLC to make up for their obvious mistakes.

I'm also argumentative but do like to think I remain civil and mature in my exchanges. I get in to it constructively with my founders about Socom and the flaws anytime it comes up while we're in game or on the message board. I am a little "socom ignorant" due to inexperience. Sorry if I came across a little brash. :-*(lol) 8)

We continue to go back because most of us are still enjoying the game even with the flaws.

i get more pissed when people in here get the bomb and then swim under the outside part of Quarantine in a "no boom" tourney making it damn near impossible to kill him

That is an honest tactic though. The water is there' date=' it's part of the map, it's not a glitch, thus it's part of the game play. That's different then killing yourself to win a war.

    [/quote']

lol what? How is camping the satchel in the water any different? I can't get in the water and knife you and even with Grenades it's still difficult to get the kill. Camping in the water or jumping off a cliff are no different, I actually think camping the sachel in the water is worse.

  12. KOONTZ--X ]

IMO there is a differance if you run into 3-4 guys as they plant trying ot stop them, but I know I wouldnt. why because I can nade it and hopefully get them all and then defuse.

what I am against is clan "A" goes to plant, they hear a grenade go off on the other side of the map, and it comes up [aaa]abuttmuch commited suicide we have failed to plant the bomb(thats cheap)

Once again it's a public room tactic and not something that would transpire in UF anyway. Non-issue. I'm moving on before I get in trouble for stirring the pot. *Hugs and kisses* for everyone. :-*

  13. It's unsportsmanlike and its tactical. You get the win by committing suicide? That's not tactical, that's cheap.

As I said previously I would have zero issue with UF implementing a rule. You also don't get the win you just prevent the plant. If you're the last guy and you jump off the second story of the hotel in Urban Wasteland you die and the other team gets the round. It's also completely different in UF and I sincerely doubt anyone would do it anyway. The problem is playing games outside of UF when everyone is doing it and you're losing because of it. If you need to kill yourself to prevent a plant your in a bad spot anyway and not doing a good enough job of preventing plants. Either way it's a non-issue in my book and not something that would transpire in UF to being with....this is public room stuff plain and simple.

  14. KOONTZ--X ]
    Rorbotron ]

I have ZERO issue with committing suicide, it's a tactic and one that works. Just like when one guy remains and a team knows where he/she is but won't kill him until the bomb is planted. As a few have already pointed out it's about rounds won.

well yeah man cause its a demo not a suppression or elimination, the goal is to plant, so why kill the last guy when you can plant then kill him?

So why is it any different than jumping off a cliff? Let's say my attempt at suicide is to rush in to the plant site and go for the defuse. 1 on 6 is suicide it just doesn't say it on the screen. As far as I'm concerned this is a non-issue and not something UF should enfore. If we all start nitpicking anything and everything it becomes nothing more than a glorified b.itch fest.

EDIT: However and this should go without saying BUT if UF rules that it's not kosher I certainly won't complain and I doubt anyone else will.

  15. I have ZERO issue with committing suicide, it's a tactic and one that works. Just like when one guy remains and a team knows where he/she is but won't kill him until the bomb is planted. As a few have already pointed out it's about rounds won.

EDIT: People are always trying to find something to complain about and this isn't directed at the original poster but just Socom players in general. Plants and defuses are worth more points and if it's 1 guy against 6 almost always that one guy is either going to get killed by the other team or commit suicide. If one guy remains and he's rushing the plant site you want your bomb carry to plant before killing the guy no? Why is that any different than throwing yourself off a cliff to prevent a plant? I pride myself on mature play, dignity and honor and once again have ZERO issue with offing yourself if you're the last one standing.

Hey Robo, the $10 HDMI from wal-mart/targets/kmart is just fine since you need it in a hurry. ;D

I ordered two from Monoprice this morning and had them sent 2nd day air. Good cables. I did think about going to wal-mart etc this evening but the gf didn't want to go and my car hates the snow.

  17. Chili-Palmer ]

Not sure what INPUT lag is, but you should notice a HUGE difference in the 120Hz, and how can she not like it.. what is it doing to make you switch it off..!? (I didn't know you could switch it off)

I'm not understanding how a crystal clear picture can be a bad thing & that you would switch it off..!!?? ???

Wait till you watch a BluRay movie in 120Hz.!!

    Should be amazing.. "should be".

It gives certain shows a "soap opera" look and she doesn't care for it. I can put the 120hz on low, medium, high or off so it can definitely be adjusted. I haven't messed with the blu-ray yet because I don't have HDMI cables. I'm either going to hit Circuit City and snag one or two at a discount or just go to monoprice and pick up a few. As far as the imput lag is concerned it has something to do with the TV not being able to scale to it's native resolution and because a good number of PS3 games aren't in 1080p you get a lag effect. It's hard to describe but it gives me a headache and I can't react as quickly. The solution is "game mode" but game mode is too dark for Socom so I need to get a HDMI cable and adjust the source settings to ensure the TV reaches 1080p. Socom supports 1080p thankfully. Great, great TV that i researched plenty before buying so I know blu-ray will look amazing and once i get things situated gaming will be as well. In the midst of all my research I didn't research gaming on the ps3 specifically so my current issue is my fault. I got it WORKED out though. :)

  18. Alright so far with the a650...the LCD imput lag is driving me insane. I ordered HDMI cables from Monoprice but I may run to Circuit City and see how much of a discount they have on cables with the liquidation. I found via my research that the HDMI cables cut down on the imput lag but I need to mess with the source settings so the TV can remain in it's native resolution. Thankfully socom supports 1080p. The TV is great otherwise. The gf doesn't care for the 120hz but I've been switching back and forth and I don't mind it. I've yet to watch a blu-ray or a DVD for that matter but I'll probably wait to do so until after I have the cables. Any suggestions on the imput lag? Apparently the PS3 is a little worse in this department than the 360 because of the upscaling or lack thereof.

cool! and yes I'd like to hear your review on the unit after a few weeks. Hopefully you got one of the good ones in the box.

I did get the Black Tie Protection plan so if it happens to be one of the lower grade models I'll be covered. Here is to hoping I got a good one as well. We thought about getting the 46 last minute but still went with the 40. I just didn't want to get a new entertainment center and I think the 40 is a good size for our viewing distance. The couch is about 8 feet from the entertainment center.

  20. Goat ]

I've heard good things about Best Lie's black tie protection plan, I don't heard good things about the so called "Nerd squad" service team. But the black tie deal seems reasonable.

    For Robrotron:

AVS forums.. when AVS first started out it was a simple chat site for AV professionals.. then they made a “Gold†member program where you had to pay to talk behind the scenes with other vendors and such. Now days it’s a huge marketing site, devoted more to propaganda from manufactures to push their product, the site is filled with members that are really factory employee’s or resellers, etc.. they are going to post in the manner that best promotes what they sell. This is less relevant in the higher tier private forums for higher level members. I believe the regular sections are full of rep Trolls.

I was a gold member (of course) but I did not renew, the guy that started it had the right idea however these days he seems to be doing rather well with selling space on the site for advertisement and has been lured to the dark side. I’m sure he’s making good money off the forums.. Good for him, bad for the average consumer looking for reliable unbiased information.

p.s. I don’t mind Vizio’s their Evolution series has a great look, other models aren’t that impressive. But bang for the buck makes up for their lack of features other units have.

I don't doubt that at all about AVS forums. However as I said previously the a650 is getting very good reviews across the board from various sites. Consumer Reports in particular rated the Samsungs very high, the highest of any of the HDTV's as far as LCD is concerned at least. Amazon the same thing, as well as C-net. I actually JUST got back from Best Buy. I picked up the a650 so I'll post a initial review and then another down the road after I've had it for a while. The price did go up since yesterday believe it or not which sorta pissed me off but they will price match up to 30 days after the purchase so I expect it to go back down. It went from 1249.00 to 1399. >:( still a pretty good price for what you're getting though. (40 inch)

the way their old protection plan worked was bad, but the new "black tie" protection is pretty good.

Yea I don't know anyone that has a problem with the black tie protection plan. It's even rated pretty well from outside sources. It may be different with TV's but from what I've read it's pretty solid. ???

On the question about the Walmart Tosh.. yep Chilli hit in on the nose.. all of those reasons, last years model, 60hz etc..

on the forums advice for Samsung's. they are right and they are wrong..

Ok here's some sound advice, probably the best advice I can give you guys.. inside dealer information. It's not about the size, the model or even the manufacture. Its all about product assembly line stock rating. Stock class rating is why big house resellers can beat competitor pricing on certain makes and models for certain periods of time.

Across the board for all makes and models first year after sale service numbers are as follows:

    Stock A 5-11%

    Stock B 10-24%

    Stock C 20-44%

Stock classifications are done at the factory, a slew of factors determine rating, minor scratches, minor or major soldering flaws, improper alignment of electronic components, etc etc etc.. the list is long.

There are also other stock ratings such as Refurbished or Recall/Repaired. Discontinued.. etc.

The vendor or electronics store doesn't have to disclose the stock rating.. the reason is the manufacture provides the same warrentee regardless of rating, Most time the managers won't even know the stock rating anyway.. But rest assured someone does. Discount stores love Stock C. they get even more of a factory discount when the buy in bulk.. Buy enough units of a factories stock C and they can charge way below competitor prices and make a healthy profit. Combine that with incentives like overstock, older models and such and well you get the point..

Back to Samsung: my opinion comes more from a wider view of the reliability of the product line as a whole, the difficulty in getting customer service from the manufacture and the huge lag time in repair orders. Its a crap shot.. get a good unit and you're happy as all get out.. get a lemon and experience the pain.

For Plasma..its Panasonic. Pioneer and Phillips come in next. Stay away from every other brand. With Plasma's The three P's are the one's that developed the technology everyone else just copied them. To tell the truth with Plasmas these days.. its' basically Panny (panasonic) as the only choice. Lots of issues with red drive polarization pixels, picture fading, etc.. with practically every other brand. Toshiba gave up even trying and no longer makes plasma's they have focused on LCD. Their Regza line got good awards last two years straight. That doesn't mean every Tosh beats every thing else.. Stock rate plays the biggest factor, next is model number and then product line. So to say Other sites say Samsung is best 9/10 well.. that's sort of ridiculous? Considering just how many factors such as model, stock rate, size, refresh rate, contrast ratio etc. etc. etc.. come in to play. Choosing a TV by only considering the factory brand is.. well sort of pinheaded. My opinions of Tosh come from selling a variety of brands, if the customer doesn't call me back and bother me because the unit I sold them isn't working then for me that's a good thing.. for LCD's in the given size range I would have to recommend Tosh, but that doesn't hold true for other applications, size restraints, use and other factors. If you think I was hard on Samsung, you should have heard me talk about Toshiba's Plasma's... They sucked big time.. I wouldn't sell a Tosh Plasma to my worst enemy, LCD's are a whole different story.

Damn.. you see what you did!! you went and made me make a goat post.. byotch!

LOL y/k amigo mad/luv from da goat.

Great info. However as far as the customer service issues I plan to just get the 4 year Breast buy protection plan which is currently at 169.99 for 4 years. You avoid the headache all together at least until year 5. Most of my research has been done via avsforum.com and consumer reports. The Sammy's I listed were at the top of all LCD's in the mid 80's out of 100. Avsforum.com is a great resource if you are looking for more information Manu besides what was provided here.

Yeah I am leaning towards that too. After I check out toshiba though. I have samsung and sony nothing ever happened to it.

Consumer Reports as well as a few Audio/Visual forums I frequent recommend the Samsung's 9 times out of 10. You won't find a better LCD for the money when talking about the a650 or the a630. I wouldn't even look at the Toshiba. My two cents.
