DICE has posted over on the Battlelog blog information pertaining to the game’s new dog tag system, which allows players to choose an initial design based on an in-game stat that will be tracked dynamically in the game. Dog tags, which were first introduced in Battlefield 2142, are basically a bragging tool and this will be even more obvious in BF3, especially now that DICE has added “extra weight†to these “calling cardsâ€. “Dog tags in Battlefield 3 go beyond just having your name on them,†explained Alan Kertz, senior multiplayer designer. “We have hundreds of dog tags that can be your personal calling card. Every time you kill an enemy, they see your tags. It’s your calling card – it’s your place to brag, and dynamic tags can show off how great you are with a knife, a jet, or even show off your personal play style.†The only way to get a dog tag from from an enemy in the game is by performing one of the new knife takedowns which has you sneaking up from behind and performing a stealth kill. DICE said that thanks to the ANT animation system, these special moves “add a dynamic visual flair,†and encourage players to get in close for stealth kills. “[it] makes bringing a knife to a gun fight the risky but rewarding experience it was always meant to be,†said Kertz. Everyone’s favorite bad guy and Creative Strategist, Robert Bowling, recently replied to a tweet and confirmed that everyone’s least favorite and rage inducing perk, ‘Commando’, will not be making an appearance in the upcoming Modern Warfare 3. When replying to a Twitter user who asked about the future of melee within Modern Warfare 3, Bowling replied: “Its been balanced, plus Commando is no longer in the game. Beyond that, you’ll have to wait and see.†To me this is great news, and I know many other gamers share the same sentiment. Getting knifed from 100 feet away is not a pleasant experience. We’re back from <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/tag/comic-con11/">Comic-Con International 2011</a> and we’ve barely survived this year’s awesome, and awesomely busy, show! One of the our personal highlights from Comic-Con was being able to be in front of over 400 fans and talk about <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/tag/uncharted-3-drakes-deception/">Uncharted 3</a> during our panel on Friday, July 22. Moderated by USA Today’s Mike Snider, the panel was called “Developing Interactive Entertainment: The Performance Capture Techniques of the UNCHARTED Franchise and Today’s Film Industry†and it gave Amy Hennig, Taylor Kurosaki, Josh Scherr, Nolan North, Emily Rose and Richard McGonagle the perfect setting to discuss everything that goes into creating the industry-leading cinematics in the Uncharted series. Despite the game’s lackluster reception, Gearbox Software has decided to continue supporting Duke Nukem Forever and has drawn the curtains on the first piece of DLC. The Hail to the Icons Parody Pack brings to the table, four new multiplayer maps and a trio of interesting takes on some of the popular modes of today’s shooters. More details on the maps were detailed on the game’s official forum: Call of Duke – Duke engages in modern combat in a war-torn city. Foes don’t stand a chance against the Duke when he spams the map with the N00b T00b. Sandpit – Players take the role of mini-Duke in a giant sandbox with two bases at either end made out of children’s toys. This map features Sticky Bombs. Inferno – Time machine engage! Duke does combat in a hellish landscape of lava and teleporters. Who turned on the 16-bit graphics, and more importantly, where did this DFG come from? 2Forts1Bridge – Hats? Duke doesn’t need no stinking hats. Give him a minigun and he’ll beat off all comers. And about the new game modes: As the title suggest, players will find themselves joining hands to freeze and shatter their opponents for point streaks and combos in Freeze Tag. Konami has announced that the Silent Hill HD Compilation for the PS3 will be arriving sometime in September or October. The compilation will include HD updates of *Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 3. The free pack will feature new fan-favorite multiplayer characters as well as new multiplayer locations for players of Deathmatch, Grab the Bag, Gang matches and others.
