  3. Recently EA released DLC that gives the player to unlock everything on MP for BF3. The 10 shortcut items are available now from the PlayStation Store and the in-game store and include these: Kit Shortcut Bundle: Immediately unlocks all items unique to the four playable classes Vehicle Shortcut Bundle: Immediately unlocks all items for all vehicles The Ultimate Bundle: Immediately unlocks all items from all other available shortcut packs So PSX Extreme wrote up an article asking How Do Avid Battlefield 3 Players View The "Unlock All" DLC? And it is a very interesting article. But the comments are more interesting. Here is one example against the new DLC. And I see his point: But then an old-school SOCOM'er chimed in: I could see his point too. In fact, I kind of agree with the SOCOM guy more than the guy pissed about being killed by a level 2 player. And the main reason I feel this way is because of MAG. I picked up MAG about a year after release due to it being on sale. But as soon as I logged in, I realized I was pretty much target practice for the MAG veterans. It had nothing to do with skill at IMO. It had everything to do with these guys had better weapons than me. Not more skill. For example. In MAG you could buy extra health. And when I say buy, I mean credit earned for doing things via the game. So instead of starting at 100 points for health, you could start at 120 points. So essentially, even if I shot someone first, and I mean way ahead of them, they had the ability to take the damage until they had about 10 health points left and kill me. Or they had the ability to heal themselves before they died and I could not. It even gave a huge advantage when it comes to weapons also. Not just better scopes, but less sway, bigger clips, and fast fire rates. You could rank up EVERYTHING on MAG. So I was ready to give up on the game. It wasn't fun, and IMO, wasn't fair. I wasn't getting killed because people were better, it was because my weapons were complete garbage. But then Zipper had a 256% XP weekend. So I played every single day during the extra XP. After I was done, I didn't unlock everything, but I was able to make my gun a helluva lot better and got that extra 20 health points. And when I say gun, I was only able to rank up one gun outta about 20. But that one gun was able to bring me to a level playing field. Black Ops was the same way. I rented that game two weeks after release. But as soon as I was able to "buy" better attachments, I was was able to hold my ground at level 4, or something, against people at level 20 or higher. I had NO intention of purchasing BF3 because of what I was hearing from my other clan mates. Basically they were getting owned because their weapons were weak and garbage. And I don't have the time to play like some people do. Hell, I'm lucky to get on once a week. So how long would it take me to be on a level playing field? Or is it even possible playing one night a week? Nuketown Hooligans just brought this point up in their latest video. At first they were pissed. But then they mentioned the guy, like me, who has limited time to play and they kind of saw EA's point. Sure, they weren't crazy about it, but they accepted it. So with that all being said, is this new "Unlock ALL" DLC cheap and lazy? I'm kind of on the fence about it. But I'm leaning more that it is not. I think the SOCOM player hit the nail on the head. If you get killed by a level 2 player with the unlocks and your level 30, was it because of his weapon or because he was better?
  4. The dev behind SOCOM, MAG and Unit 13 has been shuttered. Update: Last week, rumors were swirling that Zipper Interactive, the Sony-owned studio behind SOCOM, MAG and Unit 13, has been shut down. Today, Sony released a statement to IGN confirming Zipper Interactive has indeed been shuttered. The statement reads as follows: "Sony Computer Entertainment can confirm the closure of Zipper Interactive, a Seattle-based internal game development studio that has been part of the global development operation of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios (SCE WWS). The closure is a result of a normal cycle of resource re-alignment within SCE WWS. Zipper has complete all work associated with its most recent project, Unit 13 for PlayStation Vita. Zipper titles MAG, SOCOM 4 and Unit 13 will continue to be supported, including the new Daily Challenges in Unit 13." Our best wishes go out to all who were affected by the closure. 5. [h=1]Rumor: SOCOM Creators Being Shut Down by Sony[/h]Zipper Interactive, a first-party Sony studio responsible for the creation of the SOCOMseries and PS3 shooter MAG, is in the process of being shut down, according to Kotakusources. Sony has repeatedly declined to comment on the matter to Kotaku this week, citing their policy not to discuss rumor or speculation. But we've heard chatter for several days that Zipper was in the process of being hit with layoffs and a project cancellation. The scope of the layoffs appears to indicate a studio shutdown. Zipper has been in the business since 1996, with fan favourites like Mechwarrior 3 andCrimson Skies to its name before it was bought by Sony in 2006 to focus on the console business. The studio's last game was third-person shooter Unit 13 for the PlayStation Vita. Once seen as one of Sony's most important studios, especially in the days of the PS2, Zipper has seen its titles struggle to find the same level of success in the PS3 era, with MAG never really catching on with players and the latest SOCOM title having the misfortune of being released right in the middle of 2011's great PS3 downtime. Without official confirmation, there is still the possibility that Zipper will remain open in a nominal fashion but the extent of layoffs that we're hearing about appears to indicate studio closure. We've again reached out to Sony for comment and will update this story if we hear back.
  6. Can I get some help with the following lists: Maps for MW3 Modes for MW3 Maps for Socom Confrontation Modes for Socom Confrontation You can reply to this thread with the lists or send them via PM... it will be very helpful guys
  7. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6oLSBOIMX3o I'm going to 'Kil Seth Luisi, for fucking up Socom...
  8. Sinners and Saints have gone retro. We've been in limbo over the past year and a half with all of the "shooter" titles that have been released. We've tried numerous games from Battlefield to Call of Duty. We've been extremely frustrated with all of these games because they lack so many things that we as a clan look for in a shooter. So, we've gone retro and returned to Socom: Confrontation. Don't get me wrong we still have hopes for some future releases like Spec Ops: The Line and Ghost Recon, but Socom always has been and always will be our home. If there are any other clans or players that are looking for a good game on Confrontation feel free to send me a friend request and join us in game.
  9. Too bad we couldn't get organized enough to like take over a BF3 server with UF players. I can't be the only one tired of these dominating non-competitive BF3 matches. I mean if you play with randoms it's always 50/50 if your going to get dominated or you dominate them. Funny because at the first of the match you can always tell which way it's going to go. When I'm with my group of players it's always domination and rarely it's close. It's usually a close match when we get out numbered. And you know what happens? The randoms that are on our side usually leave because it's a close game which gets us slaughtered. I wish we could like take over a server like we did in the Socom days and it's just us and who ever we invite. I remember playing in a server on Socom and playing until late. Then the next day jumping on and the SAME damn server from the night before was still up and running. It never closed. Anyways my wish for the day...
  10. I've been waiting to post something because I wanted to wait until after I activated the AT&T data plan. Which I did last night. It works O-K, but obviously it is no where near as fast as a Wi-Fi connection, but it's sufficient when a hotspot is not available. And I found out it isn't exactly a "free" 30 days. Technically it is, but only after you purchase the first 30 days. So the free 30 days starts right after the purchased one expires. Moving on to the the touch screen. To me, it is exactly like the iPhone when it comes to how responsive it is. There is zero lag I guess is what I'm saying. And the way it is laid out is pretty idiot proof. You have little bubbles or icons similar to the iPhone that you hit that open up that particular application. Then once it is open, you can side swipe back to the icon screen(s) or to another opened application. And I don't believe that is available on the iPhone. I could be wrong. My wife has the iPhone, I don't. And the rear touch screen is just as responsive. But I only used it for a short mini "introduction" game. The camera is decent, not the greatest, but again, sufficient. But I wasn't buying the PS Vita to take pictures or video. So onto the games. The games look fantastic! The Unit 13 demo is pretty negligible to SOCOM 4 when it comes to the graphics. And it plays and sounds identical to SOCOM 4. So far the demo is only available, so I haven't been able to get online with it. But I cannot wait to try it out. Uncharted looks and sounds fantastic also. Both games take some getting used to on the 5in screen. But it's actually not that bad. There are currently three free games on the PS store that utilize augmented reality, but they are pretty boring. And you have to hold the PS Vita just so to play them. And each one utilizes these cards with symbols on them that add to the environment of the game your playing. Mortal Combat probably will make better use out of AR. But Unit 13 will probably be the first game I purchase. I liked SP and Co-Op on SOCOM 4, and Unit 13 has a co-op version. I'm really looking forward to Black Ops for the Vita in the fall. If that has MP, which I assume it will, I will be golden. The Twitter application is also super cool. It is super easy to navigate and is pretty fast using the touch screen. Mainly because you can just flick the screen and scroll down. I only tried the Twitter app on the iPhone for a short period of time, but I don't remember the Twitter app on the iPhone being this easy and cool. The FB application got yanked due to technical issues, so I haven't had a chance to try that out. The internet browser works very similar to the PS3 browser. It ain't great, but you can surf the web none the less. Kinda like the iPhone browser. I do have a couple of complaints. I wish they added the ability to use the D-pad or analog sticks to navigate through the icons. Now this is just me, but I'm a little anal when it comes to all the smudges. It drives me nuts, and I am constantly wiping the screen with a soft cloth after each use. Oh and BTW, the analog sticks are great. Like I said before, once you get used the smaller screen, playing a shooter on the Vita is awesome. That second stick obviously makes ALL the difference. Unlike a traditional smart phone, there is the D-pad and analog sticks. So it would have been nice to use them if I prefer. Maybe later in an update. My other complaint, and it's a big one, is the lack of including a flash player when using the browser. Why they didn't include this from day one is beyond me. They want to pull the smart phone and iPad people to the PS Vita, but don't include the ability to watch videos on the web?!! Now they claim this is being "discussed" but I'm not holding my breathe. Now this is just a complete theory, but I think they did it on purpose. I think they want to push the PS store video service, and Netflix, and probably soon Hulu Plus first. I think they are thinking that people won't need these "paid" services if they can get all of their video entertainment via Youtube or some other website. Because it does NOT make any sense not to include it. Especially if your going after the smart phone users that are also hardcore gamers. And you know damn well after playing with the Vita, it has the power to have it. I personally think that the PS Vita could be like having an iPad and hardcore gaming system in the palm of your hand. But they need that flash player added on a later update. But all in all, the PS Vita is awesome. Just SO full of awesomeness. I am really looking forward to some of the shooters coming out this year for this platform. And if you are a hardcore gamer, not so much a casual gamer, it is a must have! Because once more games come out, mainly shooters, you will be able to get your fix without having to drag your PS3 or XBOX with you when your out of town.

  17. Sony and Zipper have been working closely together over the past 3 months to develop a Socom2 version that plays on PS3. Long story short, they are willing to make the game but they need to know that the Socom community is still out there for them to bring back the best version of the game and actually sell it. The video of the gameplay and features is on youtube and can explain alot better into deatails of what I am talking about. But make sure to cast your vote so we can get a good socom made. 20. We know this has been a very tough tournament for everyone as Socom has been quite a challenge, we will be posting up the video shortly of the match. Great job to all of the clans that endured through the trial and tribulations that Socom brought your clans. The title of this tournament could not be anymore fitting.
  21. Curious if anybody here picked it up? It was released at a bad time with BF3 and MW3, but this one is really solid. The multiplayer is great, and Naughty Dog is rather good at support and fixing problems. Its not exactly Socom but its a great 3rd person game, very action packed and could make for some great competitive matches. Ninja played a lot on Uc2 and competed a bit, I really think this game has great competitive potential. Still waiting for BF3 to allow private matches, but in the meantime Uc3 is good on the side. Comes with clan tags and private matches, all we really need right? Any UF teams out there interested in doing something, drop us a line we would love to play with you!
  22. The SOCOM Community is making one final push to get the remake we've been waiting for. SOCOM 1 HD! 23. We have not made any official announcements that the DLC is indeed coming tomorrow and that it will cost $9.99 and that it includes Demolition and that it also has four new maps, six character skins and some new weapons. No, we have not announced any of that and I have no idea where you all are getting your information from. I mean, everything is going according to the grand master plan, right? Surprise!? Sigh.... Yeah, it'll be out tomorrow. And no, regardless of the rather incredible number of information leaks, I still can't release any of the media yet. Although, it'll probably all show up on YouTube by the end of the day anyway... -------------------- Chris Roper Community Manager, Zipper Interactive --------------------
