  1. For those of us who smoke or know people who smoke. Wikipedia article (though the images are somewhat dated): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E-cigs The largest e-cig forum: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com Good place to get one from: http://www.vaporguys.com (this is where I bought mine from) The specific model I use: http://joyetech.com/ProductsView.Asp?id=56 Also, tons of videos on YouTube. So anyway. Just thought I'd share. I know that a lot of people who smoke, don't smoke in the house and those that do, are clogging up their PS3 with the smoke. Anyway, since I started "vaping" (as opposed to smoking), I haven't smoked an "analog" cigarette yet. I don't even crave one. This is the first thing that's worked, and I've tried, quitting "cold turkey", hypnosis, pills like Chantix, patches, gums and inhalers... nothing's worked up to this point except this electronic cigarette. I'm trying to get my father-in-law to switch to these e-cigs because he's got emphysema and COPD and needs oxygen. He just can't quit smoking those cancer sticks, and after 55 years of smoking, it's killing him. Besides the obvious health issues, there's other reasons to "vape" instead of "smoke". The vapor doesn't stink-- it has just slight scent of whatever flavor of the liquid you use, there's tons of flavors. No raunchy smoke smell, no ashes, no fire, no stale smoke smell on your clothes, etc, etc. Another reason to try something like this, is that hefty tax hike on tobacco here in the US, come April 1st. The model that I use, is referred to as a "Super-Mini" style, it looks enough like a cigarette that it can pass as one if someone glances at it. There's many different styles and models though, even "pipe styles" and "lady pipe style" and even "e-cigars" that look like fat stogies. Is anyone else here a "vaper" by any chance?
  2. As evidenced by Black Ops' huge launch, the Call of Duty series is still alive and well. However, gamers won't stick around with a franchise forever unless it continues to evolve. Its engine and gameplay may be stellar, but the series runs the risk of becoming stale if they put out a similar product each and every year. We've gone from numerous WWII games to Modern Warfare, then back to WWII, back to Modern Warfare, and now the Cold War. What's next for the series? We take a look at the odds. World War I Odds: Unlikely World War II is one of the most fascinating events in human history, which is why it's still seen over 60 years later in just about every form of media imaginable. World War I, on the other hand...not so much. An Austrian dude got assassinated, a submarine sank, and there was a bunch of mustard gas. Not exactly as interesting as the atomic bomb, Hitler, Pearl Harbor, and D-Day. Because of that, the odds of a Call of Duty set in this war are fairly slim. Vietnam Odds: Somewhat unlikely We understand why so many games are set in World War II, but we don't really understand why more aren't set in 'Nam. It's an interesting war that lends itself to a markedly different style of warfare, yet it hasn't been utilized that much. Battlefield tried it earlier in the decade and is returning with the Bad Company 2 expansion, but COD has only just now addressed it in Black Ops. If it weren't for the fact that they did in fact have Vietnam missions in Black Ops, we'd say a fully Vietnam-based game was the logical next step. However, the odds are significantly diminished thanks to its recent appearance. Sci-Fi Odds: Somewhat likely Call of Duty started as a series that predominately featured real historical battles recreated in video game form. As time has gone by, however, that's not always the case anymore. The Modern Warfare games are entirely fictional, Treyarch has included a loony zombie mode in two games, and Black Ops features many fictional events within a real-world framework. Seeing as how they've gradually moved more into the fictional realm, it wouldn't surprise us in the least for the series to move into the future with a sci-fi installment. It could be set a couple of hundred years in the future on Earth, or it could even be an entirely new universe with laser weapons and aliens. Either way, we'd be very interested in seeing what a sci-fi Call of Duty would look like. Subscription fees Odds: Likely This is the most likely scenario for the next step in Call of Duty, and it would without a doubt be the most unpopular. However, it's entirely possible considering comments made by Bobby Kotick. The company is big on microtransactions and any other source of income, so we're fully expecting their most popular franchise to head in that direction. Black Ops proudly touts "Multiplayer: Free with every copy of Black Ops" on some screens, but don't be surprised if things change in the next couple of years. Those are just a few possibilities for what's next in the series. Where would you like to see it hea http://gameinformer.com/b/features/archive/2010/11/11/whats-next-for-cod.aspx
  3. im sure by now many of you have seen the petition to re-release socom 2 on the ps3. when socom: confrontation flopped, the battle cry was SOCOM 2!!!!! even when a new release of duty gets stale, the battle cry is SOCOM 2, lol. many online gameers got their start on socom 2, quite a few on the original socom. i myself started on socom 3 and combined assault, and tried my hand at 2 quite a few nights with the +30 clan. but even with the hatred that the purists had for CA, it still seems to surpass anything that we have available today. just out of curiosity, i dug out a ps2 the other day, and played through the entire single player modes of socom 2 and 3. i cant believe how much fun i had. that one afternoon really got me to thinking about the current state of video games, and my online experience as of late. i have made some great friends by first joining a clan, then by starting my own, and also by being a part of this great community. great games brought great people together, and i dont know if anyone reading this can disagree with that statement. lately though, it seems the anticipation for the "next big game" has far outweighed the game itself, and so many new titles lay on people tv stands and entertainment centers unplayed for months and collecting dust...at 60 bucks a pop!!!! it makes me wonder if the people who make these games are killing online gameplay. what made socom 2 great? they handed you a great clan system, a handful of guns and maps, and told you here, play this. that was it. we all had our favorite gun, our favorite map, and we enjoyed meeting our clan mates online every night. a great game brought great people together. now looking to today, modern warfare 2. we all waited patiently as release day got closer and closer. the game dropped and the whole damn world bought it...and so it began. the message boards across the internet blew up with complaints and gripes about the biggest game of all time. hackers figured out every way they could to exploit the game, and after some time the game just became stale. confrontation...a game a millenium in the making was highly anticipated by socom enthusiasts, only to be a complete failure upon launch. patches to fix one issue created another, and a HUGE fanbase was decimated with this game. so is the gaming industry going after too much "bling" and not enough basics in todays games? consider this for a moment... *give me a good variety of guns, all available from the moment i sign in to play day one. *give me maps in two sizes, a core map for small groups, and a larger version for large groups (thinkk combined assault) *give me 1080p...its not that hard to do *get rid of all the little details...perks, killstreaks, specializations, blah blah blah *more game modes, in more places *a clan system based on invites, not on rank *give me servers that work, hit detection that isnt in a 3 foot circle, and mics that i can actually talk to people on *give me updates and DLC on a regular basis, and dont rehash old shit anymore...i already played it!!! i personally love the next big game as much as the next person, and i try em all. but im tired of payin so much for something that becomes a paper weight after a few weeks. give me something with replay value. i want meat and potatoes...keep your garnish for the next guy. make it simple, make it fun, and make it something that doesnt come out of my ps3 for the next 6 months. if the game designers cant do that, i dont see a good future for gaming. they may still sell a million copies, and they may make a ton of money, but for those of us who pay for and play the games, the current state of gaming just sucks. bring back socom 2. its old hat, but at least it looked good on. take your tillys, nukes, and what not, and keep em as ideas on the cutting room floor. when the next big thing drops, dont forget the gamers!!!!!

The following 2 rounds were an all out battle to try and secure the win, since APC knew the pressure was on.
