  2. If this title didnt get you creaming to come in here then I don't think there is any hope.. There is glory reborn for socom activists!!!! -----Last March, Sony Computer Entertainments closed the doors of studio Zipper Interactive, developers behind SOCOM and MAG. Since then, many fans of the SOCOM series have been curious whether or not the franchise will continue. SCE boss, Shuhei Yoshida took the time to comment on this matter. “It’s not done. We never definitely retire any franchise. It’s sometimes great to have a fresh look at the classics that we have,†he told the Official Playstation Magazine in its latest issue, as posted on the PlayStation Forums. Though, yes, this is a confirmation that the series is indeed not dead, this does not however confirm in anyway that we will be seeing another SOCOM title anytime soon. This can be shown further in his discussion with OPM about the upcoming Sly Cooper title. “We are launching a new Sly Cooper game this year after so many years. Never say never. I feel sorry for people who are longtime SOCOM fans, and there are many people who still play SOCOM 1 and SOCOM 2, especially those seem to be their favorites.†I for one would love to see the series continue, though SOCOM 4 wasn’t exactly up to par with past SOCOM titles. Would you guys like to see Sony re-create SOCOM 1 through 3 in an HD Collection?-----
  3. WORD FOR WORD FROM http://therealsocom.com/2012/06/27/ex-zipper-employee-sends-anonymous-letter-to-therealsocom-com/ I offer this letter to the SOCOM Community per the author’s request. Our staff has confirmed that this in fact a former Zipper Interactive employee, and we will keep their identity hidden. This letter sheds an interesting light on the internal workings regarding the development of SOCOM 4, and some postmortem insight on Zipper Interactive. This letter offers some answers to the SOCOM Community on “who’s to blame†regarding SOCOM 4′s all new “expUrienceâ€. Some have argued it was all Zipper’s fault, and others have put all of the blame on Sony. It appears now that it was a mixture of both parties according to one of their own employees. We just learned that Kaz Hirai retired as representative director and chairman of Sony Computer Entertainment. We also learned earlier this week that there are currently no definite plans regarding the future of the Resistance franchise. What in the world is going on at Sony? More specifically, what is happening to some long-standing exclusives the company has been made famous for? Unless PlayStation has a few surprises in store, the future of SOCOM and some other mature exclusives is looking rather grim.
  4. Recently EA released DLC that gives the player to unlock everything on MP for BF3. The 10 shortcut items are available now from the PlayStation Store and the in-game store and include these: Kit Shortcut Bundle: Immediately unlocks all items unique to the four playable classes Vehicle Shortcut Bundle: Immediately unlocks all items for all vehicles The Ultimate Bundle: Immediately unlocks all items from all other available shortcut packs So PSX Extreme wrote up an article asking How Do Avid Battlefield 3 Players View The "Unlock All" DLC? And it is a very interesting article. But the comments are more interesting. Here is one example against the new DLC. And I see his point: But then an old-school SOCOM'er chimed in: I could see his point too. In fact, I kind of agree with the SOCOM guy more than the guy pissed about being killed by a level 2 player. And the main reason I feel this way is because of MAG. I picked up MAG about a year after release due to it being on sale. But as soon as I logged in, I realized I was pretty much target practice for the MAG veterans. It had nothing to do with skill at IMO. It had everything to do with these guys had better weapons than me. Not more skill. For example. In MAG you could buy extra health. And when I say buy, I mean credit earned for doing things via the game. So instead of starting at 100 points for health, you could start at 120 points. So essentially, even if I shot someone first, and I mean way ahead of them, they had the ability to take the damage until they had about 10 health points left and kill me. Or they had the ability to heal themselves before they died and I could not. It even gave a huge advantage when it comes to weapons also. Not just better scopes, but less sway, bigger clips, and fast fire rates. You could rank up EVERYTHING on MAG. So I was ready to give up on the game. It wasn't fun, and IMO, wasn't fair. I wasn't getting killed because people were better, it was because my weapons were complete garbage. But then Zipper had a 256% XP weekend. So I played every single day during the extra XP. After I was done, I didn't unlock everything, but I was able to make my gun a helluva lot better and got that extra 20 health points. And when I say gun, I was only able to rank up one gun outta about 20. But that one gun was able to bring me to a level playing field. Black Ops was the same way. I rented that game two weeks after release. But as soon as I was able to "buy" better attachments, I was was able to hold my ground at level 4, or something, against people at level 20 or higher. I had NO intention of purchasing BF3 because of what I was hearing from my other clan mates. Basically they were getting owned because their weapons were weak and garbage. And I don't have the time to play like some people do. Hell, I'm lucky to get on once a week. So how long would it take me to be on a level playing field? Or is it even possible playing one night a week? Nuketown Hooligans just brought this point up in their latest video. At first they were pissed. But then they mentioned the guy, like me, who has limited time to play and they kind of saw EA's point. Sure, they weren't crazy about it, but they accepted it. So with that all being said, is this new "Unlock ALL" DLC cheap and lazy? I'm kind of on the fence about it. But I'm leaning more that it is not. I think the SOCOM player hit the nail on the head. If you get killed by a level 2 player with the unlocks and your level 30, was it because of his weapon or because he was better?
  5. The dev behind SOCOM, MAG and Unit 13 has been shuttered. Update: Last week, rumors were swirling that Zipper Interactive, the Sony-owned studio behind SOCOM, MAG and Unit 13, has been shut down. Today, Sony released a statement to IGN confirming Zipper Interactive has indeed been shuttered. The statement reads as follows: "Sony Computer Entertainment can confirm the closure of Zipper Interactive, a Seattle-based internal game development studio that has been part of the global development operation of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios (SCE WWS). The closure is a result of a normal cycle of resource re-alignment within SCE WWS. Zipper has complete all work associated with its most recent project, Unit 13 for PlayStation Vita. Zipper titles MAG, SOCOM 4 and Unit 13 will continue to be supported, including the new Daily Challenges in Unit 13." Our best wishes go out to all who were affected by the closure. 6. [h=1]Rumor: SOCOM Creators Being Shut Down by Sony[/h]Zipper Interactive, a first-party Sony studio responsible for the creation of the SOCOMseries and PS3 shooter MAG, is in the process of being shut down, according to Kotakusources. Sony has repeatedly declined to comment on the matter to Kotaku this week, citing their policy not to discuss rumor or speculation. But we've heard chatter for several days that Zipper was in the process of being hit with layoffs and a project cancellation. The scope of the layoffs appears to indicate a studio shutdown. Zipper has been in the business since 1996, with fan favourites like Mechwarrior 3 andCrimson Skies to its name before it was bought by Sony in 2006 to focus on the console business. The studio's last game was third-person shooter Unit 13 for the PlayStation Vita. Once seen as one of Sony's most important studios, especially in the days of the PS2, Zipper has seen its titles struggle to find the same level of success in the PS3 era, with MAG never really catching on with players and the latest SOCOM title having the misfortune of being released right in the middle of 2011's great PS3 downtime. Without official confirmation, there is still the possibility that Zipper will remain open in a nominal fashion but the extent of layoffs that we're hearing about appears to indicate studio closure. We've again reached out to Sony for comment and will update this story if we hear back.
  7. Sony and Zipper have been working closely together over the past 3 months to develop a Socom2 version that plays on PS3. Long story short, they are willing to make the game but they need to know that the Socom community is still out there for them to bring back the best version of the game and actually sell it. The video of the gameplay and features is on youtube and can explain alot better into deatails of what I am talking about. But make sure to cast your vote so we can get a good socom made. 8. We have not made any official announcements that the DLC is indeed coming tomorrow and that it will cost $9.99 and that it includes Demolition and that it also has four new maps, six character skins and some new weapons. No, we have not announced any of that and I have no idea where you all are getting your information from. I mean, everything is going according to the grand master plan, right? Surprise!? Sigh.... Yeah, it'll be out tomorrow. And no, regardless of the rather incredible number of information leaks, I still can't release any of the media yet. Although, it'll probably all show up on YouTube by the end of the day anyway... -------------------- Chris Roper Community Manager, Zipper Interactive --------------------
  9. http://www.psxextreme.com/ps3-news/9944.html We always like to see good developers branching out...even when we really have no idea what they're doing. Zipper Interactive is best known for their SOCOM games and the massive online multiplayer shooter, MAG. Well, a certain game blog has located the CV of Zipper's David Chambers, and there are some points of interest. Most importantly, it appears the developer is working on two currently unannounced games for the PlayStation platform. One is another third-person shooter (perhaps along the same lines as SOCOM) but the other is a role-playing game. ...wow, really? What are we thinking? Is Zipper the kind of developer you'd trust with an RPG? And what should we expect? An MMO like MAG or something more traditional? Personally, I'm a fan of diversity in a studio. It's great when they've got a firm grasp of one particular genre or style, but if you've got the requisite talent, why not try something new? There's no doubt that people will be skeptical, just because you've never succeeded outside your comfort zone. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't try.
  10. http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/10/03/introducing-only-on-psn-for-new-exclusive-games-throughout-october/ Now granted, it doesn't mention SOCOM in this blog, but the fact they are releasing PS2 games is definitely promising. They say they are "offering a selection of rare classic games." Meaning PS2 games. Comment 195. http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/10/03/introducing-only-on-psn-for-new-exclusive-games-throughout-october/comment-page-4/#comment-650488 Guys, im pretty sure its a lot more than just allowing certain PS2 games to work on the PS3 now. I am quite positive they are taking the PS2 copy and then modifying it to work on the PS3 – its not just ripping it to an ISO and releasing it onto PSN. They are converting it for use on PS3, its more than just emulating it. Response: this. Also; it will be relatively in the Publisher’s court to clear content. We can’t do anything without the original publisher’s consent to release. So what is more classic on the PS2 than SOCOM? Keep your fingers crossed you old-schoolers! And get on Zipper to give Sony the go-ahead.
  11. http://community.us.playstation.com/message/36330958#36330958 Will Demolition be playable on all maps? If so will Demolition be playable on the old maps for people who haven't bought the DLC? Demolition will work on the four new maps it's bundled with and six of the existing ones (so 10 total). You need the DLC to play the mode, so no, it won't work for you on old maps if you don't have the DLC. Will Demolition have a flashing icon? If so will the other team see the bombs location when I have it? HTK played it last and doesn't remember seeing it blink in the latest build. We're going to try to double-check on this, but some of the appropriate folks are out of the office at the moment... Does the Bomb in Demolition reset it's self when dropped and not picked up? The last that we played was that it resets after 30 seconds of no one picking it up. Our understanding was that someone could die with it and it could fall someplace where you couldn't reach it, so it's a "preventative" design choice to make sure that it doesn't get stuck somewhere bad. With no jump climb will we have access to the areas we needed to use jump climb to reach in past Socoms? If by "needed" you mean areas that were originally designed to be normally accessed and not some exploited area, then yes, all should be fine. Note that I don't know of anything in particular that you can't reach that you could before, I'm just answering this somewhat vaguely in case there is. Will there be queries with old maps and DLC maps in them? See the answer to the 3 Pro maps question below. Will Abandon be added to the queries with the DLC maps? See the answer to the 3 Pro maps question below. Will Abandon be added to the non DLC queries? See the answer to the 3 Pro maps question below. Will Demolition be playable on Abandon? No. Will the 3 pro maps be added to small map queries? TBD. We can't add them to the default medley because some people don't have the content, but we're looking into creating a queue that encompasses all the available content for the people who have everything. Again though, that's TBD. Will other game modes be playable on DLC maps? Yes, with (I believe) only one exception on one of the maps. Will respawn and classic be playable on DLC maps? Yep. Do the new skins have to be unlocked? Not in the internal builds HTK and I have played, no. How much will the DLC cost? More people will buy it if it's cheap and Zipper will make more money off it. Pricing details will come with the full, official announcement. Will there be anther DLC after this one? There will be more than one DLC release. You'll get those details soon.
  12. Well one game. If was Seth and Chris Roper. I think they were testing something because Seths character was doing weird circles. Chris seemed like he was playing some but not much he was like 3 and 5 in respawn.
  13. There was supposed to be a patch today or at launch. And I was under the impression that they were patching in the Party System. I re-listened to the podcast last night and they say we were going to have the party system at launch. The 1.03 patch I thought was done in the beta. I'm so sick of waiting... that's all I do with Zipper games is wait... I might get run over by something before they get the patches all done.
  14. We still have some more... and why wait till Tuesday?
  15. I finally broke down and played some classic mode tonight. And I must say I had just as much fun in classic as I did in respawn, good job Zipper! The only complaint I have about classic is the push to talk, thats just a little to old school for me.
  16. I made this parody to show my dissatisfaction of socom 4 being delayed by Zipper. It is not the best Hitler parody on the internet, but I am sure everyone will get a laugh or two from this video.
  17. Well after looking at some posts and everything, knowing how you did alot of talking with Travis, and the boys from Zipper, along with spending alot of time in the socom booth. I have some a question. Did you mention anything about UF to zipper? Perhaps any type of sponsership or tournament focus for Socom 4?
  18. There new DLC comes out today for MAG. And they need the money to help make Socom 4 better you know. Interdiction..... It's going to be a mass destruction derby with troop transports. Add me if you wanna play in a group.... DK_Marauder
  19. Yes for those of u who missed the tralier last night on spike tv,u heard it now!Socom 4 due to release this fall with all new story mode n they brought back orical chick ..... YES we are so happy to hear Zipper will give us what we need in our Socom die hards.....bye slant six,,,,,hello Zipper
  20. So, I for one am definitely buying this game in 16 days. I'm figuring that a lot of you are doing the same. How was everyone Else's experiences with the Beta (good or bad)? It shows a lot of potential, even with the small taste that Zipper gave us. Post away.
  21. Been playing the MAG beta and I must say...Zipper done a good job. No lag I can see, and the maps and modes are pretty cool...the hit detection is awsome but then again I been sniping. Anyone else?
  22. So after much frustration and disappointment as many of you all have shared with me on Socom series, I'm hanging my sticks up as far as this game goes. I can't take the level of imperfection this game has shown. I may log on from time to time to a Raven Midnight Mass or something, but I'm pulling out of all tourneys and hell week here... ect. I've actually enjoyed putting in my old S2 disc recently more then anything. LOL It was a long run from my first clan I co-founded S&D (Seek and Destroy) on S2 to being in TOU and SHO on S3 and CA. The magic is just not there anymore. The intensity and fun is very low at best. Gone are the nights when you can log on EASILY, find you clan, get in game and game for a couple of quality hours and still have a life. Goof luck to all, I'll still be here from time to time to check in and who knows, may see you in a Midnight Mass sometime. SlantSix and Zipper... KISS MY STINKY PIG ASS!!!!! LOL

  25. Tri-Cannon

    Zipper

Well since we have yet to hear anything aside from zipper losing socom Con: would this mean that maybe zipper has been completely pulled from socom and there won't be any map packs? Just my thoughts cause i mean if i was pulled from a project why the hell would i want to keep helping a previous one... know what i mean?
