  2. Hey everyone, we have huge news to share with you today. Once Human’s largest free expansion yet, Isles of Abyss, is officially launching tomorrow, October 22 (October 21) on PlayStation 5. We’ve taken the strange worlds survival you know and love, and plunged it into uncharted waters. Starting tomorrow, you can leave the safety of dry land behind, set sail across five brand-new oceanic regions, and face down brand new threats unlike anything you’ve ever encountered before. Dive into a “living” ocean When we set out to build this expansion, we wanted to make sure that the sea felt like more than just a blue backdrop or a way to get from A to B. In Isles of Abyss, the entire ocean is a massive, conscious entity known as “The Sunken Lord.” The water surface you navigate is its physical body, while the eerie, staring lighthouses “The Tower” and spectral ghost ships “Voyagers” drifting through the fog act as its organs and manifestations of its dark will. The sea is constantly watching you, reacting to your presence, and feeding on your fear. As you explore, you’ll encounter dynamic regional threats – from suffocating mysterious fogs and violent black tides to skies raining temporal fire. To untangle the secrets of this world, you and your squad will need to brave these anomalies, defeat regional bosses anchored in colossal towers, and ultimately confront the Sunken Lord itself. Build your dream Mobile Sea Fortress To survive a sea that actively wants to devour you, a basic wooden raft isn’t going to cut it for long – though that’s exactly where your journey begins. We’ve given you complete freedom to build, customize, and upgrade your vessel into a fully functional, mobile Sea Fortress. Your ship isn’t just transportation; it’s your forward base, workshop, heavy artillery platform, and primary survival tool. Want to build a classic wooden pirate ship armed with heavy broadside cannons? Go for it. Prefer an industrial drilling rig, a sleek sci-fi aircraft carrier, or a completely wild, abstract floating fortress? The design is entirely up to your imagination. How you engineer your vessel serves as your tactical answer to the ocean’s threats. You can team up with friends to form entire player fleets, coordinating your ship designs to tackle different hazards together as you sail through uncharted waters. The land-sea dual progression loop Your survival journey begins as you wake up on a starter island, but from there, the order in which you explore the remaining four oceanic regions is entirely up to you, allowing every player to carve out a unique growth path. Isles of Abyss introduces a seamless, mutually feeding progression loop between land and sea. Resources gathered from exploring mysterious islands fuel the naval tech and heavy weaponry needed to survive open-water encounters. In turn, venturing into the deep sea unlocks specialized materials that enhance your terrestrial gear and base progression. Beneath the waves, a dedicated underwater exploration layer awaits, where you can dive deep into sunken ruins for lost treasure, harvest rare aquatic resources, and engage in deep-sea hunting to sustain your crew and gain special materials. Feel every wave with PS5 features We’ve fully tailored this aquatic journey for the PlayStation 5 to make navigating a hostile ocean feel as tactile as possible: DualSense haptic feedback: Feel the low, rumbling heartbeat of the Sunken Lord beneath your hull, along with the distinct rhythm of crashing waves, roaring sea storms, and hull-creaking impact during naval combat. Adaptive triggers: Experience realistic resistance with every shot as you pull the trigger on heavy naval cannons or launch grappling lines into enemy vessels. Lightning-Fast SSD Loading: Seamlessly transition from land exploration to captaining your ship, or diving deep into underwater trenches, without interrupting your survival flow. Prepare to set sail tomorrow The tide has turned, and the living ocean is waiting. Grab your friends, head over to the PlayStation Store, and download Once Human to be ready for the free-to-play Isles of Abyss expansion arriving on PS5 tomorrow.. We’ll see you on the open sea – try not to let it swallow you whole. View the full article
  3. There is joy in being a little scared. From pleasantly spooky atmospheres to frights that make your fingers fidget on the controller. Our team has played many horror-themed indie games, from cozy to creepy, and we’re excited to share some of our favorites to keep players frightened and having fun this Halloween season. CloverPit What’s scary about slot machines? Not much, unless you’ve ever tried to navigate a casino floor with your wallet (and ears) intact. But what if your life was riding on every jackpot? What if you were locked in a grim, rusted-metal nightmare room, suspended above a bottomless pit, with only a broken toilet and a few lucky charms to keep you company? Bet you’d be pretty scared then, huh? Huh!? In any case, that’s the premise of CloverPit, a macabre slot-machine roguelite in which your only hope of survival is to win enough coins to clear an ever-rising debt. This isn’t entirely random; unlocking a few of those charms can tilt the odds in your favor, and learning to synergize them can keep you a few steps ahead of your unseen captors. Also, the longer you survive, the more likely you are to get bonuses you can build strategies around, giving you more breathing room to plan an escape. So don’t get discouraged if your first few attempts send you tumbling into the abyss – there’s always a chance for better luck, even unstoppable luck, on your next run. – Mikel Reparaz, Game Content Analyst Escape the Backrooms Play Video Escape the Backrooms is a horror exploration game that plunges you into the unsettling world of the internet’s infamous Backrooms legend. Traverse more than 30 eerie levels, solve puzzles, avoid terrifying entities, and search for a way out. Just remember: survival is far from guaranteed. Brave the Backrooms alone for a tense, atmospheric experience, or team up online with up to three friends. Proximity voice chat means you’ll need to stick together whilst communicating carefully! The catch? Keep your voices to a whisper; the entities can hear you too. What makes Escape the Backrooms a must-play is how brilliantly it balances psychological horror with chaotic multiplayer fun. Its unsettling environments and unpredictable dangers make solo exploration genuinely nerve-racking, while playing with friends can quickly turn into a chorus of panicked shouting and questionable decisions. Few horror games make being lost so terrifying, or watching your friends make everything worse so entertaining. – Jonty Binns, Global Account Manager Fangtopia Play Video Not every spooky game needs to scare the life out of you. Fangtopia is a cozy, single-player puzzle game where you build your own monster-filled kingdom, one hexagonal tile at a time. Connect forests, towns, mountains, and railways to create a sprawling landscape, then populate it with werewolves, yetis, and other wonderfully weird creatures. And there’s no timer, so you can relax whilst planning each move. Fangtopia is a must-play because it captures the spirit of Halloween without any of the scares. Its charming monsters, playful atmosphere, and satisfying puzzle mechanics make it the perfect game to unwind with after a night of horror. Whether you’re building the creepiest kingdom imaginable or simply seeing what strange creatures you can discover, Fangtopia proves that Halloween can be all treats, no tricks. – Jonty Binns, Global Account Manager Graveyard Keeper 2 Play Video Is it weird to call this medieval apocalyptic game cozy? Because this is exactly how I would summarise this game in one word. I have never played the first game (Graveyard Keeper), so I learned the gameplay mechanics and story just by playing this one. I am usually not a fan of resource-management games, but somehow Graveyard Keeper 2 really hooked me, and I ended up losing track of time while playing! Customization also plays a big part, letting you decide where and what to build as you gradually bring the town back to life. From the characters’ tone to the art style (2D, retro pixelated art), I started wondering why I never played the first one! The gameplay is quite full-on, with multiple things to do depending on what you prefer: complete quests, craft objects, build a zombie army to help you restore the town, or simply look after your church and graveyard. For someone new to the franchise, I recommend this game if you want a cozy, story-driven experience that unfolds at your own pace! Who knew rebuilding a town with the help of zombies could be so relaxing? – Juliette Common – Go-To-Market Strategist Hunter’s Moon Play Video What I enjoyed most about Hunter’s Moon was how different it felt from most horror games I’ve played. Rather than relying on monsters or jump scares, it draws its tension from the people, places, and beliefs that shape its world. I found myself slowing down to absorb the atmosphere, listening in on conversations, exploring winding countryside paths, and gradually piecing together the lives of the community around me. Some of my favorite moments came from simply observing the stories unfolding inside homes and taverns, while the game’s wonderfully strange mummers, handcrafted visual style, and strong sense of British folklore gave every encounter a distinctive character. One moment I was completely engrossed in the villagers’ lives and dramas; the next I was desperately trying to evade capture when a stealth sequence took an unexpected turn. The result is a mature, atmospheric folk-horror experience that feels genuinely unlike anything else I’ve played recently. – Dominic Kendrick – Producer Phasmophobia Play Video Are solo scares not your thing? Maybe you’d feel braver with some friends along. Phasmophobia lets you team up with three other ghost hunters to investigate extremely haunted locations and gather evidence of the supernatural. Using voice chat and advanced equipment like UV lights, cameras, and thermometers, you’ll creep through dark spaces, hunting for clues about the resident ghost. Just know that the ghosts can hunt you back. While you’re poking around and laughing with your friends, you might see eerie phenomena, lights flickering, doors slamming, or even the ghost itself, but when the front door locks and you hear it coming, it’s time to run, hide, and hope it doesn’t find you. And don’t scream, they’re always listening. Always. – Mikel Reparaz, Game Content Analyst Reanimal Play Video Beautiful dissonance is the shortest way to describe the feeling of playing Reanimal. Juxtaposed against a morose color palette where scares lurk behind every shadow, it’s a tender, cooperative experience that gently guides the player through environmental storytelling at its finest. You play as an orphaned brother and sister on a mission to rescue their missing friends, navigating a nightmarish island through a combination of stealth and puzzle-platforming mechanics. One moment, you may crouch behind an object to hide from a macabre creature; the next, you may be frantically chased through cavernous woods teeming with monstrous surprises. In all of these moments, you’ll have to work with your sibling to survive, forging a shared experience in the dark. From its sumptuously dark atmosphere to its tense pursuits across the island, Reanimal is the perfect companion for spooky season. – Becky Sayers, Independent Partners Team Lead Silver Pines Play Video A private detective lost in a rainy, mostly abandoned mountain town is a natural setup for a Lynchian survival-horror game; a side-scrolling search-action, not so much. Yet Silver Pines blends its inspirations cleverly, delivering a moody, mystery-filled adventure where players hunt for keys and clues while discovering weapons that let them tear through obstacles and misshapen creatures with equal ease. It starts slow. Investigator Red Walker wakes up in a diner with little more than his modest ability to jog and dodge, but the game quickly immerses players in a nightmare mystery as Red delves into decrepit motels, flooded tunnels, and dreamlike spaces in search of missing musician Eddie Velvet. An unusual high-contrast art style and surprisingly effective scares deepen the sense of unease, while satisfyingly brutal, stompy combat makes pushing deeper into the horror more fun. It’s a strange, melancholic, and utterly unique take on survival horror. – Mikel Reparaz, Game Content Analyst The Midnight Walk Play Video The Midnight Walk is a single-player, first-person adventure focused on exploration, puzzles, and stealth. You travel through a beautifully twisted dark fantasy world alongside Potboy, a small lantern-like companion whose flame is key to your journey. What makes this a standout must-play is its incredible handcrafted art style, with every character and environment sculpted in clay and 3D-scanned into the game. It feels like stepping into a dark stop-motion movie that’s weird, beautiful, and unsettling in equal measure, and unlike almost anything else out there. If you love Tim Burton films or are a fan of Little Nightmares, this is a must-play for you. – John Vega, Director, Head of Independent Partner Relations Discover more indie favorites on PlayStation Play Video What spooky games are you playing this Halloween season? 4. Fists clashing, bones crunching—it’s combat at its most visceral. On the flip side, there is the glitz and glamour of show business, where you handle everything from song composition to live stage productions. Stranger Than Heaven, an all-new title from RGG Studio, the team behind the Like a Dragon series, delivers a remarkably diverse array of gameplay as it follows the 50-year journey of protagonist Makoto Daito. At a recent press preview event, we got hands-on time with select portions from four distinct chapters: the Prologue, Kokura in Fukuoka, Kure in Hiroshima, and Minami in Osaka. Makoto Daito’s quest for a place to belong, and the vibrant port town The prologue takes place in San Francisco in 1915. Framed for murder and pursued by the police, Daito manages to shake off the cops and board a suspicious vessel about to set sail from the docks. There, he meets Yu Shinjo, a fellow stowaway, along with the ship’s captain, Orpheus. From the outset, a dramatic story unfolds against the backdrop of a moody jazz-blues soundtrack. While you can feel the profound loneliness of Daito, who has lost his parents and faced racial discrimination, he also reveals a compassionate heart, putting himself at risk to protect Mashiro when he is spotted by the crew. In the next segment, set in Kokura in 1915, Daito crosses paths with Tae, the woman who becomes the anchor of his life. Still searching for a place to belong, Daito is deeply shaken when Tae greets him with a gentle “Welcome home”. The nuance of falling for Tae is delicately captured through subtle facial expressions and minute hand gestures. This section also offered a taste of free-roaming adventure. Bathed in sunlight, Kokura is a lively port town. Running through town while gazing at smoke billowing from the steel mill chimneys, navigating maze-like alleys bordered by wooden fences, grabbing a bowl of beef over rice at a street stall… simply exploring the area gets your blood pumping. Immersive combat powered by dual-limb controls At the Kokura steel mill, we tackled a long battle against multiple foes to rescue a kidnapped Tae. Stranger Than Heaven features a unique combat system that uses the shoulder buttons and triggers to control the left and right sides of Daito’s body independently. You fight by alternating left and right attacks while guarding in the direction of incoming strikes. Because your inputs sync directly with the character’s movements, the controls feel remarkably tactile. From the wide wind-up of a punch to the impact upon landing a blow, the combat carries the heavy, raw weight of human bodies clashing. Unarmed fighting isn’t the only option; weapons add a brutal edge to combat. Compact one-handed weapons allow for lightning-fast strikes, but leave Daito’s left hand relying on weaker bare-fist attacks. Conversely, massive weapons like sledgehammers leave you vulnerable to counterattacks due to longer recovery times, but unleash devastating force per swing. During extended brawls, you also need to keep an eye on your six, leaving no room to drop your guard. While nimble one-handed weapons felt reliable at first, the sledgehammer proved much more effective in group fights for clearing out multiple enemies at once. Though we ran out of steam before reaching the final encounter due to increasingly tough foes, the challenging combat left a lasting impression. In Kure (1929), we also tested our combat prowess in the Arena. Defeating designated opponents earns rewards, and rematching adversaries you’ve previously beaten allows you to apply constraints, such as “No Weapons,” to score extra bonuses. Failing to meet these conditions, however, results in reduced rewards. According to Producer Hiroyuki Sakamoto, Daito’s core attributes related to health and spirit improve through daily actions like walking around town or reading the newspaper. Furthermore, weapons feature proficiency levels that increase attack power through continued use, while new moves can be learned via minigames and sub-stories. Step into show business: From music production to live performances In 1943 Osaka (Minami), we got a taste of the show business world. Here, Daito leverages his knack for showmanship to produce various live performances, a feature that not only generates income but also plays a pivotal role in the overarching story. Managing show business involves handling promotions, composing music, and mounting live stage shows. Crucial to composing music is collecting “Inspiration.” By gathering various sounds throughout the city and during battles, you can take your discoveries to a composer once you’ve amassed enough to craft new tracks. Interestingly, a single song can be given multiple arrangements, and swapping out instruments dramatically alters its overall mood. Experimenting with these options was a treat; seeing a single melody transform completely was genuinely satisfying, letting you find the exact arrangement that clicks with you. It’s equally engaging to map out what vibe fits best with an upcoming event schedule. According to Sakamoto, Inspiration can be acquired in many unexpected ways. For instance, feeding a stray dog might cause it to bark, unlocking a new piece of Inspiration from that sound. Certain prompts can only be discovered at night, and gathering various Inspirations across different eras expands your repertoire of songs and arrangements. Best of all, tracks you compose transcend time: a piece performed in Kure can later be showcased in Minami or Atami. When producing a performance, you select singers, musicians, and stage effects like confetti or fog machines. Every show comes with target revenue goals, requiring you to carefully balance performer skills against operational costs. Once the curtain rises, Daito personally operates the lighting and special effects. Successfully executing the on-screen button prompts enhances the stage effects and increases the show’s revenue. Rather than relying heavily on player twitch reflexes like a traditional rhythm game, success seems to hinge far more on pre-show planning, such as choosing the right song, cast, and stage setup. Even from our brief trial, the sheer variety of music and strategic depth make this feature look exceptionally promising. Looking ahead to Makoto Daito’s 50-year journey This hands-on session provided a compelling glimpse into the distinct stories and gameplay experiences tied to each era and locale. From the raw intensity of close-quarters combat to crafting custom tracks in show business, every element delivered its own distinct thrill. We can’t wait to see how these rich, varied gameplay loops intertwine as we relive Makoto Daito’s 50-year life story in the full game. Stranger Than Heaven launches on PlayStation 5 on Friday, January 15, 2027. View the full article

  7. With its cinematic HD-2D visuals and flashy combat, Final Fantasy Resonance was already piquing the interest of turn-based RPG fans, but its powerful and fun Visions mechanic has really captured the imagination. I went hands-on with the final game to take a deep dive into what Visions are, how they work, and how they transform main characters Rain and Lasswell’s quest to save their world. What are Visions? If you’re familiar with summons in turn-based RPGs, then that’s a good starting point for Visions – but you’ll get a particular kick out of them if you’re a long-time Final Fantasy fan. As I explored Lapis, I encountered crystal shrines that each welcomed me to engage with a short tale of a hero from previous games in the series. After an introduction with video clips and multiple choice questions relating to the chosen Vision, I was gifted with a combat-ready assist companion that could be equipped to one of Final Fantasy Resonance’s main party members, granting different magic and attacks in combat, but also permanently enhancing baseline stats like health and speed. All of which I’ll delve into a bit later, because let’s get into the most pertinent question first… Who exactly are the Visions? With so many legendary Final Fantasy heroes spanning 16 main numbered titles, series veterans will be pleased to know that a staggering 26 companions are available to find across the entire game. These range from iconic villain Sephiroth (Final Fantasy VII) and amnesiac rebel Terra (FFVI), to the first Warrior of Light (Final Fantasy) and stoic battler Lightning (FFXIII). There’s also a handful of original characters from the game Final Fantasy Resonance has adapted and enhanced here, Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, such as Black Mage Tronn. While most don’t typically talk outside of combat chatter, each legacy Vision feels and looks exactly how you’d want them to, complete with animations and music appropriate to the titles they’re originally known for. And yes, their attacks are just as faithful as well. What abilities do the Visions have? When a Vision is first awakened I immediately gained access to a basic suite of passive perks, as well as magic and physical strikes to unleash in battle. Take Noctis (FFXV), for example. His opening passive benefits are a 20% boost to my character’s attacks, and the ability to cast Thunder or Blizzard in combat. However, as each equipped Vision earns mastery points from winning battles, more bonuses and Vision specific abilities are unlocked. In Noctis’ case, his early mastery bonuses include a 40% increase of the equipped party member’s limit burst gauge – the special meter that fills over the course of a fight and lets you deliver a powerful single attack – each time you defeat an enemy. Unlocking further mastery levels for someone like Zidane (FFIX) means gaining access to his Steal skill, which can be boosted further with his Mug ability which adds potential damage to his theft attempt. But by far the most spectacular use of a Vision’s power is their Resonance capability. By staggering all opponents during combat – finding their weakness and depleting their stagger meter – I was given the choice of using any of my equipped Visions’ dazzling cinematic finishers, such as Cloud’s (Final Fantasy VII) brutal Ascension Resonance. What Visions mean for your gameplay Let’s not get it twisted – Visions may initially look like regular summon attacks, but there’s far more to them than just that. In fact, Final Fantasy Resonance has more traditional summons in the shape of Espers who can join your battles for a set number of turns. No, Visions fundamentally alter and personalize your party’s proficiencies in combat. The more a party member uses a Vision, the greater their level of affinity grows, which in turn means more bonuses for that character. And because each Vision has a specific role/job status where they excel, I quickly learned to mix and match them to my party characters to either create specialists or all-rounders. For example, Lasswell has the role of a Breaker, a class geared towards staggering enemies in combat. But coupling him with original Vision Medic Leah gave him the ability to use healing magic and an option to pass his combat turn to an ally, which made him my durable back-up support character if my main heavy hitter went down in battle. Allying him with Cloud (also a Breaker) later on gave my version of Lasswell even stronger offensive capabilities to keep him in the fight. Similarly, when Lid joined my party, I teamed her up with Zidane, knowing his Saboteur skills to disrupt and debuff enemies would make Lid a tricky and versatile opponent when combined with her damage dealing Commando skill set. In short, my characters adapted over time to suit my playstyle, but the game never locked me into taking one specific route for their growth, meaning I could evolve them to match the challenges of my quest. And by collecting magicite during the adventure and visiting the somewhat eccentric Moogle of Light, I could increase the base rank of each Vision and unlock even more abilities. A Vision to behold and play Of course, Final Fantasy Resonance isn’t just about Visions, even if they’re a crucial part of the game. From its sweeping orchestral score which borrows classic cues from previous titles, to its globe-trotting and occasionally dark tale, there are plenty of traditional elements that will keep fans happy. And yes, you can still whistle for a Chocobo ride, complete with everyone’s favourite theme tune. How will you customize your characters when Final Fantasy Resonance launches on PlayStation 5 on October 22? View the full article

  9. Starting today (October 19) the Saros: Zenith update is available to all Saros owners for no additional charge. We had two main goals for this update: add replayability for existing players who had already plumbed the depth of Carcosa, and make the game more accessible so Saros even more people can discover the addictive, explosive, exhilarating bullet ballet gameplay that made Saros one of the highest rated action games of 2026. To begin, I’d like to introduce some of the features that make Saros more accessible for new players to pick up and play. Play Video Keep the projectiles, but slow ‘em down At Housemarque, a feeling we chase with our designs is the satisfaction that comes from facing down a difficult challenge, then overcoming it. Because of this, we are always wary about adjusting difficulty by toning down the parts of the game that create these interesting challenges: i.e. the spectacular attacks coming at you from our enemies. Although we realize our games can look intimidating at first, we didn’t want to compromise the combat system of Saros by reducing the projectiles that put the “bullet” in “bullet ballet”. Enter, “Slow Game Speed”. With this setting enabled, you can slow the game down to give yourself more time to react to hostile attack telegraphs, see the bullets as they fly towards you, and decide your response (Jump!? Dash!? Shield?! Parry!?) The attacks remain the same, but you have a little more time to deal with them. You have control over how much the game slows down, and can even choose if you want the setting to kick in automatically during combat, or if you want to manually toggle it on when things get hairy. Auto-fire means one less button to worry about If there is one piece of advice I’d give players of Saros, it would be “Keep moving”. But, next to moving, the action you will likely be performing more than any other is shooting your weapon. The new “Auto-fire” accessibility setting makes your weapon fire automatically when you are aiming at a hostile. We know that some players may find it difficult to hold a button down for extended periods of time, so we hope this will help. More broadly, it gives you one less button to worry about during combat, freeing up your brain cycles to hit that dash button at just the right time to avoid taking a hit. Importantly, however, this setting does not make reloading automatic. A perfect reload still requires a well-timed button press. Like our other features, this is designed to make the game more accessible, not remove opportunities for player skill expression. Combined with the new Motion Sensor Aiming functionality and our existing button remapping settings, players now have many ways to customize how Saros controls. Adding a new Layer to Carcosan Modifiers Beyond these new accessibility features, we have also greatly expanded the “Carcosan Modifier” system from Saros. Using this system, players can apply various “Modifiers” to the world of Carcosa to tune the difficulty to their liking. Protection Modifiers alter the game in a way that makes it easier and more forgiving. Zenith brings 10 new Protection Modifiers, to give players having a difficult time even more ways of customizing their experience. One of my favourite new Protections is “Corruption Melee Enhancement”. Corruption is one of the scariest mechanics in SAROS. When you get hit by certain projectiles, Corruption will build up on your Armor, eating away at your max Integrity. With this Modifier active, however, Corruption becomes a new source of power. When your melee strike connects with a hostile, your built up Corruption will be consumed and turned into additional damage, delivering a single devastating hit. The risk from Corruption still exists, but I hope this new way of dealing with it will encourage players to overcome their fear and get up close and personal in combat. Zenith also adds 10 new Trial Modifiers to increase the challenge level. A particularly tricky one is “Hostile Regeneration”. When playing with the Modifier, larger hostiles can be stunned via damage from your weapons, but they will quickly regenerate and recover. Only a melee strike can finish them off, so you need to be quick on your feet to rush in and deliver the fatal blow! These modifiers tie in directly to another of our brand new features: The New Game+ mode known as “Eclipse Layers”. After clearing Saros, mysterious new nodes will be added to the Armor Matrix back at Passage. These are the key to unlocking the gate to the next Eclipse Layer, a more intense version of the game with altered rules. After moving to the next Eclipse Layer, the first thing you will do is select a loadout of Carcosan Modifiers. In this mode, a certain threshold of Carcosan Modifiers must be met before you can begin. It will take multiple Trial Modifiers to reach this goal, but which ones you decide to take on is entirely up to you. With 25 different Trials to choose from, there is plenty of room to customize the challenge to fit your playstyle. But some strategic thinking is also advised, as certain combinations of Trials can synergize together to create deadly combinations… View and download image Download the image close Close Download this image A Crown, fit for a King Another goal we had with Zenith was to give players a way to show off when they are playing with a bunch of difficult Trial Modifiers active. To do this, during the Eclipse Layers, Arjun now dons a Crown and his Armor glows golden! Better yet, the more Trials you take on, and the higher your Modifier Balance goes, the bigger and more splendid the Crown will become. Load up on those Trials, and see just how golden he gets! And the Crown is not just for show, it is also the key to a new collectable found in the Eclipse Layers. These “Visions” take the form of murals and messages, etched into stone by an ancient king. 12 Visions lay waiting across Carcosa, but as you walk the path, higher levels of the Crown will be required to perceive the additional story texts they contain. View and download image Download the image close Close Download this image View and download image Download the image close Close Download this image View and download image Download the image close Close Download this image View and download image Download the image close Close Download this image Overlord Rush, a new way to tango with Carcosa’s fiercest Last-but-not-least is the new Overlord Rush mode. This mode – accessed via the Primary Unit in Passage – brings you into an intense training simulation in which you race to quickly dispatch the powerful Overlords from the main game, competing with friends and players around the world on an integrated leaderboard.* Overlord Rush is divided into multiple “Sets”, each of which contains a different selection of Overlords. The “Incursion” and “Ascension” Sets contain three Overlords each, and can be completed in 10 minutes, for a nice little Saros snack. The final Set is known as “Totality”. As the name implies, it lines up all eight Overlords from around Carcosa in one continuous gauntlet! This mode is a blast, both as a test of your personal skill, and as a way to compete with your friends*. When comparing your scores globally, you can filter the results based on your choice of Main Weapon, meaning that even if you can’t reach the top overall, try to be the master of your favorite weapon. I can’t wait to see the scores our players start posting. I wonder how many hours (minutes?) before I’m knocked out of the top 10…. 12. Hello Scouts! Team Peak is happy to announce that our climbing game Peak is launching on PlayStation 5 October 22. Peak is a collaboration between two studios, Aggro Crab and Landfall, together, we make Team Peak. Aggro Crab is an American studio based in Seattle, Washington, known for their games Another Crab’s Treasure and Going Under. Landfall is a Swedish studio based in Stockholm, known for games like Content Warning, Haste, Totally Accurate Battle Simulator, Stick Fight: The Game, and many more. Both studios became friends after meeting at a game developer conference in 2022, instantly kicking it off. After the success of Another Crab’s Treasure and Content Warning, the teams thought that it could be cool to collaborate on a small project together. Game jam in South Korea To celebrate our friendship, we initially made the game as a one-month game jam in Seoul, South Korea in February of 2025. Three Aggro Crab devs and four Landfall devs locked themselves in a rented apartment, fueled by Korean BBQ and coffee to make something fun together. A game jam is a timed event where individuals or teams create a game from scratch within a strict deadline, often following a secret or shared theme. Initially, the theme for the game had been discussed by the devs while sitting in a hot tub in Sweden, a couple of months before heading to South Korea for the jam. The result was Peak, a co-op climbing game where the slightest mistake can spell your doom. You play solo or as a group of lost nature scouts, with your only hope of rescue from a mysterious island being to scale the mountain at its centre. The key is to stick together, help each other out, and to find the best way to the top before hunger, hazards, or the fog gets you. After the game jam the team went home to their respective countries, with Landfall finishing up our game Haste, and Aggro Crab working on Peak and some other projects. We then all met back up in Sweden in June to finish the game together – and to celebrate the Swedish tradition of Midsummer. Friendship & crossplay Peak is a game based on friendship, both in its development and gameplay. In the game, there’s an important rule: Never abandon a friend in need. Therefore, we’re excited that with the launch on PS5 we’ve also made it possible for crossplay so that you can climb with up to three friends no matter what platform they use. Climb to the Peak The Mountain Takes no Prisoners! Climb through 4 biomes on your way to the Peak, each with its own life-threatening obstacles. You’ll need to scavenge for questionable food to survive and manage your injuries carefully – every setback limits your stamina, making it harder to climb. Survive together We have a bunch of different hazards that you will encounter in the different biomes, everything from tornadoes to poison clouds, birds, and zombies. If any of those things scare you, you can also customise your run, making it easier or harder depending on what your scout troop feels like. Play Peak on PlayStation 5 We’re really excited for PlayStation players to join the climb. The PlayStation 5 version includes all content updates, biomes, and new items the game has received since initial launch – and yes, that includes being able to physically kick your friends using custom runs if you want to be evil. So get your troop together for Peak on PlayStation 5 October 22. View and download image Download the image close Close Download this image View the full article

The signature halo-shaped taillight serves as both a visual icon and a massive air outlet. Together with innovations like the Active Wake Control System and Accretion Rims, the car achieves a drag coefficient of 0.29, downforce of -1.2, and an aerodynamic efficiency rating of 4.1 through iterative simulated testing, reaching new heights in balancing low drag and high downforce for electric hypercars. “Electric hypercars must answer a fundamental question,” said Tianyuan Li, Design Head of Xiaomi Auto. “Do we pursue extreme low drag for straight-line speed, or maximum downforce to conquer corners? The optimal solution lies in finding the perfect balance between the two.” This approach impressed Gran Turismo Series Producer Kazunori Yamauchi. “When I saw that Xiaomi had resolved the contradiction between low drag and high downforce, I was truly amazed.” Try this in GT7: Take it to the Spa-Francorchamps circuit in the Vision Gran Turismo Trophy event and see how its futuristic design translates to one of racing’s most historic circuits. After extensive research and trials in the Ministry of Defense, they have developed an elegant solution: The R-40 Sightliner bolt-action sniper rifle. Your trusty sidekick with the eagle eyes, the Sightliner can provide powerful armor piercing rounds and long-range precision. P-44 Mist | The perfect companion to the exactitude of a sniper rifle primary is something that can provide that same steadfastness with the speed and versatility of a pistol. That brings us to the purpose-built P-44 Mist, a one-handed machine pistol designed for a compact carry. If the enemy closes in on you, carve a path out with the help of the P-44! AMW-20 Apex | As we have faced larger and more heavily-armored foes, we have responded by making a more powerful and armor-penetrating, backpack-fed, colossal anti-materiel rifle featuring assisted reload: the AMW-20 Apex. The Apex is far from subtle, but there is not much in the galaxy that could survive an assault from it. LAS-44 Nova | For the advanced tech-loving teams, there is a new entry to the LAS series of energy weapons: the LAS-44 Nova! This sleek rifle has the luxury of infinite ammo provided by weapons of its type, but it fires a high-precision non-explosive thermal projectile after a short charge cycle. A new optimization routine designed specifically for better cooldown performance means your rifle will be firing longer after all targets have been eliminated. 18. Hello Puzzlers and PlayStation fans! The team at Coin Crew Games is excited to share that Escape Academy 2: Back 2 School will be coming to PS5 on November 5. To celebrate, we are sharing some deep-dive information about what players can expect in this sequel that expands the first game from a more linear narrative to a whole new open-world campus. Of course, you can also expect couch or online co-op play available from the get go between the full campus, story and all of its puzzles. Play Video Whether you played the first game or not, Escape Academy 2: Back 2 School is open to everyone and represents a more fully-realized campus experience. We want the Academy to feel like a place players can get lost in, filled with characters, quests, secrets, and plenty of reasons to explore between escapes. Welcome (back) to campus Our campus is broken up into several distinct sections, each filled to the brim with quests and puzzles for you to encounter throughout the journey. For this lesson, we’re sharing new details on the Headmaster’s Tower and Humanities Campus, which makes a more expanded return from the first game after [spoiler!] Quanty burned down the library in the first game. The Headmaster’s Tower was one of the first spaces we worked on when designing the updated visuals in Escape Academy 2: Back 2 School and it inspired the most discussion about how to make a space feel truly “Academic” and further push the worldbuilding before expanding on each location’s unique identities. Players will get a sense of the Academy’s history more than ever with this area while still discovering plenty of playful and strange puzzles. This also led us back to the Headmaster’s Office, which was the setting of our very first escape in the original Escape Academy. The location became our visual target as we began leveling up the art style for Escape Academy 2: Back 2 School. We hope players will see how we pushed the visual identity of the Academy further while still making it recognizable to returning players. From concepts to being fully realized, the Humanities Campus has seen the most deviation from the first entry’s 2D map layout. It was a fun challenge designing this game to be more open world as we went through a lot of iteration with this area. At first, things felt too open, and we eventually found lots of new ways for players to engage with the area like interactable landmarks, side quests and escapes. As the art director, one of my favorite parts of building the game has been making the world itself part of the experience. Puzzles aren’t strictly limited to rooms anymore. This campus itself will reward you for staying curious. Because part of the Humanities Campus had to be rebuilt after the first game’s story, I expanded on the classical architecture inspiration from the original game’s library design. Compared to the rough and gritty industrial vibes of the Science Campus, or the colorful Arts Campus, I wanted to give this area a cozier feel, that might encourage a quiet coffee break or a philosophical puzzle discussion amongst students, while still inspiring some sense of mystery and discovery between its faculty offices, classrooms and library. You won’t have access to the Humanities Campus right away, but you’ll catch glimpses of it often with a striking keyhole-shaped fountain that can be seen across some of the best sightseeing spots on campus for you and the other students. This is intentional as we designed the campus itself to be its own living, breathing puzzle for you to unravel; we want exploration to feel as rewarding as puzzle-solving. Our hope is to create moments where players see something interesting before they understand how to reach it. We also hid a lot of keyhole embellishments all around the Academy, see if you can find them all. That’s all for today’s lesson. The team and I are thrilled to be bringing Escape Academy 2: Back 2 School back to PlayStation fans around the world when the game launches for PlayStation 5 on November 5. We can’t wait for players to explore the Academy, uncover its secrets, meet new and returning faces, and discover that there’s much more to this school than meets the eye. Stay tuned for more updates about the game. View the full article

  21. Since the very beginning, we knew Rockbeasts was something special. To us, at least. Not because it’s the biggest game, or the safest bet. Quite the opposite. It’s not built around a genre you can neatly file it under. It’s built around a theme, a very specific fantasy that comes straight from our own experiences and our own love of music – and how it shaped us. That’s what makes it special. It’s also exactly what makes it hard. For anyone just discovering us: Rockbeasts is a rock and roll management RPG. You’re not the frontman, not the drummer, but the manager. Your job is to take a band from a garage full of ego, feedback, and half-finished songs, all the way to the biggest stages out there. Along the way, you’ll juggle resources, wrangle personalities, put out fires (sometimes literal ones), and try to keep the whole beautiful mess together long enough to make it big. Games like this, the ones driven by feeling rather than formula, don’t play nice with algorithms. They’re harder to pitch, harder to categorize, harder to put in front of the people who’d actually love them. We knew that going in. We also knew that if this idea ever got the right support behind it, it could become something much bigger than what we could build alone. That support has arrived. We’re beyond proud to share that Lichthund is partnering with Critical Role, both creatively and on the publishing side. Their experience, talent and honestly, their taste for stories with real heart, combined with everything we’ve poured into our game, is exactly the combination we always hoped for. This partnership is what should let Rockbeasts become the game we always wanted it to be, instead of the game we had to settle for. It took us a moment to get here. And there’s still a lot we need to handle as we want to make Rockbeasts the best version of itself. But we’re ready. As if we were to enter a rock stage ourselves.Matthew Mercer and Sam Riegel will share that stage with us, as they are officially joining Rockbeasts’s cast. Seeing our characters played by them is a dream come true. If you know Critical Role (and if you don’t, please do yourself a favor and check them out), you know what these two bring to a character: chaos, heart, and a level of commitment that makes a script feel like a true adventure. That’s exactly the energy our game needs, because managing a band this unhinged was never going to be a quiet job. And there’s more to come, so please stay with us on this last mile leading to the release – and here’s the second, equally exciting part… Rockbeasts launches on PS5 in January 2027! That’s when you’ll finally get to sit in the manager’s chair, wrangle your own beautifully broken band, and try to get them to the stage they deserve – in one piece, if you’re lucky. We’ve been building toward this moment for a long time. For those of you already with us – thank you from the bottom of our hearts for believing in something a little different. For those we’re just about to meet – welcome and enjoy the tour. You can wishlist Rockbeasts now in preparation for launch in January 2027. View the full article
  22. Hello everyone! I’m Takeshi Yamanaka, Producer of MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls. Today, we’re excited to reveal the gameplay trailer for Phoenix Cyclops, the first DLC character included in the Year 1 Pass for MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls. Arriving on November 2, Phoenix Cyclops (voiced by Ray Chase) brings a unique fighting style that combines a wide variety of Optic Blast attacks with the devastating power of the Phoenix Force. On the same day, Cyclops’ “Classic” and “Legacy” DLC costumes will also become available. If you’ve been waiting for Cyclops to join MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls and haven’t picked up the game yet, now is a great time to jump in. The game’s first-ever sale on PlayStation Store begins today, ahead of his arrival with the Ultimate Edition available at a discounted price. PlayStation Plus subscribers will also be able to try MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls with a 3-hour Game Trial starting today. Today, I’d like to share more about why we chose Phoenix Cyclops instead of the traditional version of Cyclops, the thought process behind his character design, his gameplay mechanics, and the inspiration behind his DLC costumes. Why Phoenix Cyclops? Play Video Early in development, Cyclops was one of the leading candidates to join the roster as a member of the Unbreakable X-Men team. Cyclops has appeared in numerous Marvel fighting games over the years, and his visual identity and battle style have become firmly established through that long history. Because of that, we challenged ourselves to explore whether there was a way to present him in a style that felt different from what players had seen before. This became a major topic of discussion within the team. During those discussions, our narrative team proposed the idea of using the Phoenix version of Cyclops. We felt this interpretation would allow us to create fresher visuals and a more exciting fighting style while offering something unexpected for players. As a result, we made the difficult decision to continue working on the character until we felt like we were adding something new to his fighting game legacy. As a result, we’re excited to now release Phoenix Cyclops as our first post-launch DLC character. Character design Phoenix Cyclops hopes to tame a destructive power to save mutantkind from extinction. This version of Scott Summers believes in absolute justice and is willing to make difficult decisions and take extreme actions when necessary. At the same time, we wanted to convey the inner conflict and emotional burden that comes with those choices. To help express that side of his personality, we intentionally gave him a somewhat younger appearance to contrast the incredible aura of the Phoenix Force. With Phoenix Cyclops’ transformed state, we wanted to illustrate his shift from idealistic leader to fiery corruption. While the overall Phoenix costume remains faithful to its source material, we incorporated details and visual touches inspired by the comics throughout the design process. Above all, our goal was simple: to make him look as cool as possible. Gameplay and skills Cyclops is designed as an all-rounder who excels at both long-range combat and close-range strikes through his versatile use of Optic Blasts. Empowered by the Phoenix Force, he can also unleash wide-area fire-based attacks that control large portions of the screen. In addition to projectiles, rushing attacks, throws, and setup tools, he has access to a wide variety of Optic Blast techniques. As players continue to use Optic Blasts, they accumulate Phoenix Force energy called Solar Shards. Once four Solar Shards have been collected, Cyclops can transform into his Dark Phoenix form. This mechanic was inspired by the Avengers vs. X-Men storyline, in which Cyclops became one of the Phoenix Five and eventually absorbed the power of his fellow teammates, transforming into Dark Phoenix. Entering Dark Phoenix form grants a significant temporary power boost, but it also comes with risks, including health depletion. The Phoenix Force is both an incredible source of power and a path to destruction. Successfully managing and controlling that power will be one of the keys to victory. DLC costumes When we decided to make Phoenix Cyclops the base version of the character, we understood that many fans would prefer the classic appearance they have known and loved for years. This isn’t unique to Cyclops. Anyone who grew up reading comics or watching animated adaptations has their own vision of what these characters should look like. Because of that, whenever we significantly reinterpret a character’s design or choose a relatively uncommon version of a character, we approach development with the expectation that classic-inspired costumes should also be available. The “Classic” and “Legacy” costumes were created with that philosophy in mind. We hope players enjoy experiencing Phoenix Cyclops in whichever style they prefer. Play Phoenix Cyclops first at EVO France It’s hard to believe that nearly two months have passed since launch. To everyone who continues to play the game every day, thank you for your incredible support. Players attending EVO France from October 9-11 will also have the opportunity to be among the first in the world to try Phoenix Cyclops. If you’re attending the event, we hope you’ll stop by the MARVEL Tokon: Fighting Souls booth and give him a try. Thank you again for your continued support, and we look forward to sharing more with you soon. View the full article
  23. Today, we’re excited to announce that Warhammer Survivors launches on PS5 November 10. To mark the occasion we’re also revealing two characters in our latest trailer. Play Video Eagle-eyed fans who have been following the game for a while may have noticed Morvenn Vahl in the game’s key art, and we’re really excited to show her off in full pixel art glory finally. Warhammer Survivors allows you to play in both the Warhammer 40,000 and Warhammer Age of Sigmar universe, so her counterpart (as part of today’s reveal) is Lyssa Revenya, a skilled thief and tomb-robber. While both champions take prime position in today’s spotlight, they couldn’t be more different. Who is Morvenn Vahl? Formerly a young Celestian Superior, Morvenn Vahl was chosen to become High Abbess Sanctorum – supreme commander of Adepta Sororitas. Vahl is an iron-willed warrior, suffering no fools and certainly no heretics. Dissatisfied with commanding from the safety of the Imperium, Vahl spearheads many crusades personally, leading from the front. How does she destroy the endless swarms of Tyranids, Death Guard Plague Marines, and Orks? As one of our larger Warhammer Survivors characters, Vahl strides across the battlefield in her ornate Paragon Warsuit. She’s armed with the devastating Heavy Bolter Fidelis, which sprays an arc of projectiles obliterating her foes. The weapon also has a chance to trigger a miracle, blessing Vahl and increasing the weapon’s rate of fire. Fidelis can be evolved to the Purgator Mirabilis, which unlocks the use of the warsuit’s Paragon Missile Launcher, unleashing a sporadic salvo of explosions across the battlefield – in addition to Fidelis’ spray of bolter shells. Enemies of Imperium, beware! Thief, Tomb-Robber, Saviour of Cinderfall – who is Lyssa Revenya? We’re moving to the Mortal Realms next. Lyssa Revenya is a talented thief and an integral member of the Saviours of Cinderfall, a rag-tag band of heroes who scoured the streets of Hammerhal and put an end to those plotting the city’s demise. Originally hailing from Lethis, Lyssa is well-versed in the art of navigating trap-ridden crypts and catacombs of that morbid city. Lyssa’s unique toolset for breaking and entering – and slaying hordes of Skaven In Warhammer Survivors, Lyssa turns her signature tools for breaking and entering into weapons. The Rope and Grapnel shoot hooks in from random edges of the screen, colliding with specific points on the battlefield, damaging enemies and dragging away any who survive. It’s the perfect weapon for a nimble thief who likes to stay more than a sword-length from their enemies. When the Rope and Grapnel evolves, Lyssa communes with the spirit of Rhea, a former ally and mentor. This terrifying, screaming banshee soars across the battlefield, exploding into a vengeful cloud of damaging ghostly fog. Perhaps in the right hands, Lyssa’s Rope and Grapnel can be utilised to pull enemies toward the Ghost of Rhea’s vengeful uproars? There’s only one way to find out. Warhammer Survivors launches on November 10; Morvenn Vahl and Lyssa Revenya are just two of over 40 playable champions waiting for you in-game. 24. DMZ is Call of Duty’s definitive extraction shooter experience, launching alongside Campaign and Multiplayer when Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 releases on October 23. To help prepare you for this extraction game mode, here are the major highlights, starting with a tour of the Forward Operating Base and its many stations. Forward Operating Base The Forward Operating Base (FOB) is your command center for DMZ. Manage progression, prepare your gear, and plan the next deployment. As you complete Operations across Hajin, the FOB evolves with you, transforming from a foothold to a fully operational base with over a dozen different Stations. Here’s a look at the stations you can immediately access: Operators: Manage and select your Active Duty Operator, check their status, and select one for deployment. DMZ Orders: Where you review your current set of Missions downloaded to your Orders Tablet. Earn rewards for completing these structured objectives during deployments. Stash/Loadout: Stow looted items you’ve extracted with in your Stash. Equip weapons and gear in your Loadout, ready for the next infil. Firing Range: Test your equipped weapons at the FOB Firing Range against a variety of targets. Deploy: A threshold of razor wire leads to a heavy-lift military transport waiting for your orders to deploy. Continue successful deployments within Hajin, and focus on expanding your base with more stations. Here’s what you can unlock: 3D Printer: Use Resources and 3D Printer Ingredients to craft a variety of gear. This is also used to upgrade various stations in the FOB. Gunsmith: Loot weapons and return with them, then use DMZ Cash to purchase attachments, or build brand new weapons by extracting from Hajin with a Weapon Manual. Vendor: Check the vendor’s wares and spend DMZ Cash on a selection of weapons and other helpful gear. The items on sale rotate from day to day, so buy something when you see it. Bounty Leaderboard: Gain intel on the most dangerous PvP Bounty hunters and killers active across Hajin. Boss Board: Need to track down a high-value target? Seek intel on Lieutenants, then drop into Hajin, search them out, and face down the exclusion zone’s most dangerous foes. Dog Tag Case: Display your trophies from defeated Operators. DMZ Progression: Ensure you’re leveling up in DMZ with this dedicated Progression Track, from 1-70. Unlock FOB stations and gain rewards every step of the way. Deployment Customize your match experience by choosing one of three deployment options: Story Missions: Select and replay narrative objectives across Hajin for big rewards. Dynamic Operations: Deploy directly into a Dynamic Op to earn DMZ Cash and XP. Every completed Operation provides a Supply Drop of increasing rarity for your squad. Free Roam: Deploy without a mission and lose yourself exploring Hajin City. Tips for gaining DMZ XP Story Missions, Dynamic Ops, Orders: Prioritize completing Story Missions, Dynamic Ops, and Orders to earn valuable gear and big DMZ XP payouts. Boss Hunt: Hunt down Lieutenants and Commanders to earn major rewards. These tough enemies roam the map in different locations around Hajin, and when defeated, award plenty of XP along with their weapons and high-value loot. Loot Up: Loot consistently to acquire new items, use them at the 3D Printer back at your Forward Operating Base, and to improve your match rating. After Action Report: Fight the enemy, loot, and complete objectives to improve your overall deployment rating. Strive for an S Tier performance (or better) for the best rewards. Vehicles: Take advantage of the numerous vehicles throughout Hajin for faster travel across land, water, and air. Repair and refuel vehicles at the Gas Station. Threat Levels and more Each area of Hajin has a particular Threat Level associated with it. If you’re too loud, expect a violent enemy response specific to the area you’re in. It may be wise to be stealthy. This just scratches the surface of DMZ. Squad up and experience the exciting new game mode firsthand at launch and expect additional content in the updates to come. Modern Warfare 4 is available for pre-order now on PlayStation 5, launching October 23. 28. Atsu’s hunt is not over. A year after the original game launched, PS5 players can dive into the Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition. Available now on PS5, this brings together the story campaign, the Ghost of Yōtei Legends multiplayer mode, and two new major additions: the roguelike mode Most Wanted, and the narrative expansion Echoes of Sekigahara. The story is split between the present day and flashbacks to Atsu’s time on the mainland. To mark the Complete Edition’s launch, and celebrate the game’s first anniversary, we welcome back the voice of Atsu, Erika Ishii, to talk about the game. Note: The below interview is condensed for clarity and brevity. You can listen to the full chat on the latest episode of the PlayStation Podcast, available later today. Play Video PlayStation Blog: It’s been a year since the game originally launched. What has Atsu brought to your life since? Erika Ishii: I still can’t get over it, you know, because again, this was my dream. I played The Last of Us and I said, I want to do that. I already knew I wanted to act. I already knew I loved video games. But I said specifically – that. That is what I want to do. And… yeah, being on my PlayStation home screen, playing the game, getting to travel to Tokyo Game Show, which was another dream of mine. And to have a beautiful professional cosplay made for me of Atsu so I could be Atsu on the Sony PlayStation stage in Japan… it really does feel like a fever dream sometime. I was curious to know whether your dialogue for the expansion was recorded after the fact or part of the bundle together with the original recording. Sounds like you came back. So what’s the time gap there between that last piece of dialogue you recorded for the main story campaign and then coming back to the expansion? There were at least a couple of months between. They had to work really hard on polish to get the game out, then take a very well-deserved little bit of a break. But as we were nearing the end of production, I was inquiring constantly. “Are we doing DLC? Because Iki Island was really great and really fleshed out some stuff that I wanted to know about in Atsu’s backstory…” And I did have a list of pitches for them [laughs] They didn’t go with anything that I suggested. But even at the launch party I was talking with Courtney Woods, the writer for Echoes of Sekigahara. And we were scheming. We thought “Atsu needs a little romance in her life”. Like, there’s no way she didn’t have any romance. She mentioned [as such] in one of the onsen scenes. So you know she’d had bedtime bed companions at least. But what’s the deal with personal attachments? Is this the only time in her life up until now she’s had them? And so I got my wish. You had that little bit of time away. Did that time increase your awareness of the character, or anything you experienced outside the role that helped inform your performance of Atsu further? Pretty much playing the game. It’s wild because, you know, most of the time voice actors don’t get to play the game until after it comes out. I was fortunate enough [to do so] during production. But playing through the finished game and literally being hands-on and in her shoes. Because a lot of times, if it’s been a while since you’ve played a character, they’ll play you reference audio. But I could go directly to being Atsu, go right into the booth. It was such a gift. There are flashbacks. So it’s two periods of Atsu’s life. So how do you get into that headspace where you’re having to switch? A couple of things helped. We had done a lot of flashbacks with young Atsu. And so extrapolating what happened. Most of the time in acting you have what is called a prior moment. Before any scene starts you have to know where you were. You have to have a whole lived life experience prior to this moment. I already had to have it in my head and sort of know what she had been through and what this huge informative point in her life felt like. For an actor, you have to have [to be able to] drop in at any moment and be like, okay, well, I think that her time doing this probably informed how it’s going to be in the quote-unquote present day. Play Video This roguelike mode, Most Wanted. Did you record new dialogue for that? Yes, there is some new dialogue for that. Because it is a new mode and non-canonical, it has a slightly different feeling to it, more mystical, in the way that the multiplayer is more mythological. There’s a heightened quality to it. You’re not the only character in Most Wanted. There’s some familiar faces, but a surprise face is… Jin, who is returning, and I believe Daisaku Tsuji recorded new voice lines for this as well. I understand you didn’t crossover during the recording sessions but you folks must have got together to talk all things Ghost and just compare experiences? I got to chat with him [when he was in Los Angeles] and we chatted a little bit about it. And that was actually before the game had launched. I told him how much his work meant to me and how I’m grateful to be accepting the Ghost torch. In a lot of ways he was new to video games with Ghost of Tsushima. But since then he’s appeared in many other games. I think almost all of which I am also in. We joke that we’re bound together forever, and one of us will follow in the other’s footsteps. Last year I asked you where launch day would find you. You mentioned it was a gathering of folk from the game. So where does the first anniversary of Yotei find you? Oh, my gosh. I think the big thing is that the Complete Edition is out. I didn’t know the launch date until the rest of the world did. We all had a little betting pool as to when we thought this was going to drop. And I said, I guarantee it’ll be on the anniversary. I was one day off [laughs]. I feel like this is the one year celebration. It’s very bittersweet to me. It’s been four years of my life being her face, her movements and her voice, and helping to develop her and working with just like some of the greatest team of all time is… Atsu is going to be a part of my heart forever. And, you know, when they have the PlayStation logos, they’re going to have a picture of Atsu, a picture of my face there. I still see cosplays at conventions. I… This is, again, to bring it back around to the beginning, this was my dream. And I think that what do you do when you accomplish the big thing when you get to the top of the mountain is you just got to keep going there. There are more mountains to climb, I think. I have the great privilege of, in addition to Atsu, having other characters or work that are a part of my oeuvre. I don’t have to be defined by Atsu, but she is… gonna always be so special to me. 29. Since the launch of PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) on PS5 Pro, players and developers have asked whether similar image-quality improvements could be brought to the PS5 console. PSSR analyzes game images pixel by pixel and uses AI to upscale them with more detail and stability than conventional approaches; until now, its computational demands made bringing that experience to PS5 impossible. Today, we’re excited to announce Quick Spectral Super Resolution (QSSR): a new performance tier of AI upscaling. Born from Project Amethyst, our AI graphics collaboration with AMD, this quick new evolution of PSSR is built on two key innovations: A streamlined neural network architecture A hand-tuned implementation that maximizes performance on PS5 With these, we are bringing the benefits of AI-guided upscaling to PS5. While PSSR remains the gold standard on PS5 Pro, QSSR provides some notable improvements to both image detail and image stability on PS5. The first titles to use this innovative new library are Marvel’s Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei. Both are being patched today to offer QSSR as an additional graphics option on PS5. Here’s what Insomniac Games and Sucker Punch Productions have to share about the benefits of this new technology: Play Video “Our team at Insomniac works hard to make sure each of our games is a showcase of PlayStation hardware, and we’re excited for Marvel’s Wolverine to be one of the first titles to bring this new QSSR technology to players. QSSR adds more pixel-level clarity and stability to our environments, bringing out extra detail amidst the busy streets of Madripoor, the dense alleyways of Shinjuku, and many other areas across Logan’s epic journey. It’s a perfect companion to the launch of Marvel’s Wolverine, and it brings a great taste of the PS5 Pro experience to our players on PS5. Personally, I love seeing how the PlayStation tech teams continually improve the PS5 platform, and I’m excited for more games to make use of QSSR in the future!” – Mike Fitzgerald, Head of Technology / Insomniac Games Play Video “At Sucker Punch, we’re excited to bring QSSR to Ghost of Yōtei players so that they can experience the world we’ve created with even more clarity and detail. QSSR excels at resolving the fine details in our characters and environments and does so with a level of temporal stability that hasn’t been possible on the PS5 console until now. We’ve long wished that all PS5 players could experience the incredible image quality that PSSR brings to PS5 Pro, and QSSR is a positive step towards that goal!” – Jasmin Patry, Lead Rendering Engineer / Sucker Punch Productions QSSR will be offered broadly to all PlayStation developers, and we look forward to seeing these improvements in many more titles going forward!
