  2. We’re thrilled to have revealed Rhapsody in Scarlet, a brand-new action game for PlayStation 5, during today’s State of Play and State of Play Japan. Set in the jazz-filled streets of 1920s New York, Rhapsody in Scarlet is an action game where players can enjoy exhilarating combos by wielding magic and beasts. Behind the city’s dazzling skyscrapers and lively streets, an unseen conflict rages among those who practice magic in secret. Players take on the role of Ellie, a young magus who finds herself swept up in events that will shape her destiny. First, please take a look at the first trailer revealed during State of Play. Play Video Thrilling combo-driven Acation with magic and beasts Many action games nowadays focus on weapon-based close-quarters combat, but with Rhapsody in Scarlet, we wanted to create something different, allowing players to build highly customizable combos and harness the unique possibilities of magic. One of the defining features of Rhapsody in Scarlet is its dynamic action, which sees Ellie wield magic while commanding beast companions in battle. The stylish combat blends close- and long-range attacks, area-of-effect spells, and beast techniques into highly customizable combos. Finding combos that fit your playstyle and adapting them to different enemies and situations is one of the game’s core appeals. A story trailer that brings the story and characters into focus In addition to its exhilarating action, Rhapsody in Scarlet also places a strong emphasis on its story, woven together by a cast of distinctive characters. For more, please take a look at the story trailer revealed during State of Play Japan: A Young Magus commanding beasts is drawn into the fate of the world The story is set in 1920s New York. Ellie, a young magus who has come to the city that never sleeps to pursue a career as a jazz singer, becomes entangled in the schemes of a mysterious mafia organization following a certain incident. There, she meets Ilya, leader of the Seekers, a magus organization. Though the two have completely opposite values and clash repeatedly, they gradually deepen their bond as they continue fighting together. Before long, they find themselves confronting a fate that threatens to shake the balance of the world. Ellie Myers Voiced by Cherami Leigh (English) / Akari Kito (Japanese) Our story’s protagonist, Ellie is a young magus who came to New York to pursue a career as a jazz singer. Fighting alongside her beast companion, Sköll, she channels the powers of beasts and magic to unleash combined attacks. Valuing freedom above all else, Ellie refuses to be bound by rules or authority. With her unconventional thinking and unwavering determination, she confronts a world-shaking conspiracy and the destiny that awaits her. Ilya Jones Voiced by Hannah Grace (English) / Saori Onishi (Japanese) The young leader of the Seekers, a magus organization, Ilya was raised under the tutelage of Harold, her father and the head of the Sorcellerie Quarter. An exceptionally talented magus, she possesses both remarkable skill and a strong sense of responsibility. Valuing order above all else, she frequently clashes with the free-spirited Ellie. However, through many battles they fight side by side, the two gradually come to understand one another. Jazz-filled 1920s New York In Rhapsody in Scarlet, we have worked to recreate the atmosphere of 1920s New York as much as possible, from its architecture and fashion to its cars and Prohibition-era speakeasies. The 1920s were a time of remarkable energy and change, marked by the rapid spread of automobiles and radios, as well as the growing presence of women in society. To faithfully recreate the vibrant atmosphere of New York during this era, we carried out on-site research and gathered a wide range of historical references. At the same time, we introduced fantasy elements such as Beasts, magic, and the magical district they inhabit, creating a distinctive world where historical reality and fantasy come together as one. By incorporating jazz inspired by the sounds of the 1920s, we have also created a unique experience, where swing-filled sound and action come together as one. Wishlist starting today Exhilarating action powered by magic and beasts, a distinctive world set in 1920s New York, and a story centered on Ellie and Ilya await in Rhapsody in Scarlet. We will have more to share in the future, so please be sure to add the game to your wishlist and stay tuned for upcoming updates. The game will also be featured in Konami Press Start, a streaming program that will air on Konami’s official YouTube channel on September 3 at 8am PT / 4pm BST / 5pm CEST, September 4 at 12am JST , so be sure to check it out as well. 3. During today’s State of Play, we announced that Fate/Extra Record, developed by Type-Moon, will be releasing worldwide on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on January 28, 2027! We know everyone’s been patiently waiting to learn more about this return to the Fate universe, so we’ve shared a thrilling new trailer jam-packed with the latest footage detailing this fresh telling of the “Moon Holy Grail War.” Play Video The Fate series began with Type-Moon’s PC game Fate/stay night, released in 2004. Since then, the franchise has expanded beyond games across a wide range of media, including manga adaptations, novelizations, and anime. At the heart of the series is a modern battle fantasy, where legendary heroes from the past, known as Servants, are summoned by Masters to fight for the Holy Grail, an all-powerful artifact said to grant any wish. Together, Masters and Servants enter a deadly conflict where they must battle until only one remains. As of August 2026, the Fate series spans more than 100 titles across games, anime, novels, manga, apps, and other media. Originally released in Japan in July 2010, Fate/Extra was the series’ first RPG. Fate/Extra Record revisits this pivotal entry in the Fate franchise, completely rebuilding it for modern platforms. Not only has the story been expanded, character graphics have been renewed, and the presentation has been updated for the modern era, but a new strategic deck-building Command Card battle system has been introduced to elevate the gameplay, too. We believe this makes Fate/Extra Record accessible and easy to play for newcomers, while offering a fresh experience for fans of the original game. The Holy Grail War After humanity discovered a supercomputer hidden on the moon, everything changed. Known as the Moon Cell Automaton, this powerful computer created the Holy Grail, an omnipotent machine capable of granting any wish. Thus began the Holy Grail War, a tournament taking place in SE.RA.PH, a digital world constructed by the Moon Cell Automaton. It’s there that 128 combatants, or Masters, are pitted against each other in hopes of being the ultimate victor. At each of their sides stands a Servant, a hero drawn from human history, who will help them fight to claim the Holy Grail and fulfill their wish. At the center of it all is you, a Master with no memory of how you found yourself in the middle of this conflict. Your only chance of survival is to contract a Servant and join this brutal war. Navigating the War Gather Information on your enemy: The key to victory is finding out the identity of the enemy Servant. The Servant’s True Name is a crucial piece of information as it will be tied to their combat style and weakness. Gather information and uncover their true identity! Explore the Arena: To qualify for the Decisive Battle, you must explore sections of the Arena. By overcoming traps and enemies on each floor, your Servant will grow stronger. The Final Battle: A one-on-one battle between two Servants commanded by their Masters. The losing Master will forfeit not only the tournament, but their life. The Holy Grail War continues until there is only one participant remaining. Battle System Fate/Extra Record’s battle system has been completely overhauled from the original game. Now, combat plays out through the use of customizable decks in Command Card Battles. It’s up to you to build your deck with a variety of different Commands, bringing an added layer of strategy to each encounter. Choosing the Best Actions from Your Hand: There are three kinds of Commands: Attack types that inflict damage on the enemy, Guard types that add to your shield to decrease damage taken, and Skill types that have their own unique abilities. Commands will differ depending on your Servant and thus require different tactics for each combat style. Your Deck is the Key to Battle: New Commands can be obtained through treasure boxes in the Arena and defeating powerful foes. Each Servant’s Combat Style: Players can choose one of three Servants to fight alongside them in the Moon Holy Grail War. Each Servant possesses unique abilities and strengths, so learning how to make the most of their individual talents can give you an edge in battle. Discover what sets each Servant apart and experience their distinct fighting styles for yourself! Along with standard digital editions on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, we’ll also have a Digital Deluxe Edition, which includes the Fate/Extra Record digital edition, numerous cosmetic costumes, an in-game arranged music pack from the original Fate/Extra, and the digital versions of the art book and soundtrack that are included in the physical Limited Edition. We can’t wait for you all to enjoy Fate/Extra Record, reborn! View the full article

Later, at HorrorCon in Sydney, they meet Yoona (Gia Kim), a survivor of a terrifying supernatural attack—she pulls down her collar to reveal a dark, necrotic scar. But this island hides secrets, centuries old and hungry for vengeance. And Dead True are walking right into it. It’s your choices that will shape each outcome. In the trailer, Owen (Dacre Montgomery) – Dead True’s cocky star – faces a crossroads: should he follow the signal to help his missing friend Nate (Spence Moore II), or take a detour across a rickety bridge to investigate a strangely lively bar? 9. Hi everyone, it’s great to be back on the PlayStation.Blog. It’s been a few years since we shared Maquette with you, and while that game was about the shifting scale of perspective and memories, we’ve spent our time since then thinking about a different kind of shift: the shift of unparallel realities. Today, we’re excited to give you a first glimpse of what we’ve been building. This is Uncanyon. Play Video A bew take on classic adventures Uncanyon is a puzzle-first adventure set in a forgotten world that emerged and once flourished in the folds of converging unparallel universes. You play as Sonia, a stranger to this land. As she explores, she’ll start piecing together not just how to survive Uncanyon, but why it needs her (whether she’s ready for that role or not). While Sonia is trying to save the world in classic adventure tradition, her story is also a personal one. Although she arrived in Uncanyon looking for excitement, as Sonia becomes aware of her fate and her role, the weight of being a hero expected to save the world starts to weigh heavily on her. For that, our team looked to our own lives, drawing from the pressure of family expectations and the invisible obligations social media places on so many of us. She’s someone handling these pressures in real time, the same way we all are, and that shared uncertainty is something we leaned into throughout the writing and world design. Unveil puzzle-filled ruins In Maquette’s recursive world, we found a soft spot for spaces that reward close observation. Uncanyon’s temples and ruins carry that forward, but with sharper teeth. These places were built to keep people out – filled with traps, locks, and puzzles designed by whoever came before to guard what’s inside. You’ll work through them using tools and discoveries you pick up along the way, building up a small but versatile kit of solutions as you go. We wanted to take classic “dungeon puzzles” and elevate them from softball distractions to intricate, mechanical traps and vaults with lots of “aha” moments to be found. Part of the fun for us has been designing spaces where the solution only clicks once you’ve truly uncovered new aspects of the puzzle systems. Reality Fragments This is the part of Uncanyon we’re most excited to talk about. Scattered throughout the world are devices powered by fragmentstone, a mysterious substance that allows you to shift and bend alternate realities in and out of Uncanyon. Activate one of these devices, and the space you’re standing in transforms: obstacles move, hazards disappear, paths that didn’t exist a moment ago suddenly do. Whole rooms seamlessly morph from one reality to another around you. In other fiction, alternate universes are separate, and the characters move between them. But here, the realities converge in Uncanyon – and you’re in control. This means you can blend realities in and out as you wish. You can freeze blending at any time to explore the mixture of realities you’ve just created, and there are even points where you can be in multiple realities at the same time! A blocked doorway in one reality might be wide open in another, at the cost of a hazard you now must account for elsewhere. Learning to explore an area across its different states and figuring out which reality to be in and when, is the core puzzle language players will learn over the course of the game. What’s next We’ve got more to share about Sonia’s story, the regions you’ll explore, and how Reality Fragments evolve the world as you progress — but we wanted this first peek at the game to give you the core ideas at the heart of the game: a puzzle-first adventure set in a fantastic land of unparallel realities. Thank you for following us from Maquette to here. We can’t wait to see what you find in Uncanyon, which will be launching on PS5 in 2027. View the full article
  10. We are thrilled to finally announce Hunter’s Moon – a first-person historical narrative folk-horror game coming exclusively to PlayStation 5 on October 26* – the night of the full Hunter’s Moon. Play Video Hunter’s Moon is set over the course of one fateful night. Meet mummers dressed in folk costumes, evade capture by the witch hunters, and eavesdrop on a characterful cast of regular folk worn down by war and misfortune. Discover the secrets of this dysfunctional village on the brink as you embody an accused “witch” on the run for her life. You play as Lilith Thorne, an accused woman who must flee through a 17th–century rural village and its surrounding forests and moors in search of safety. As she is stalked and hunted by the Witchfinder General, the village magistrate, and a local huntsman, you must use stealth and cunning to evade capture. And by eavesdropping at windows, you may gain knowledge and aid that can help her survive the night – warning words, sage counsel, sacred items, or perchance a folk song. The game features a novel immersive-theatre-inspired eavesdropping mechanic that invites the player to explore and discover this early modern village and its stories – grounded in historical realism, elevated by handcrafted stylised art, and told through the voices of over 100 fully voice-acted characters. In 1644, Matthew Hopkins began his crusade of witch hunting in England, styling himself “the Witchfinder General.” In 1647, he published a book, The Discovery of Witches, which comprised a series of questions and answers in which he justified his controversial methods for identifying witches. Arguably the most notorious witch hunter in history, Matthew Hopkins and his colleague John Stearne sent more to the gallows for witchcraft than all other English witch hunters before them. In 2019, I began writing a screenplay inspired by this history while working as a producer at Crows Crows Crows. Transforming this vision to the screen led me to found the new independent studio Twin Swans, bringing together talented artists and developers whose credits also include The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe, The Dark Pictures Anthology: Little Hope, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Signalis. Our shared love of history and craft guided us in the creation of Hunter’s Moon – a reimagining of a witch hunt in 17th-century Early Modern England offering an experience of the stories and horrors that might unfold under such wicked circumstances. While Hunter’s Moon is set at the height of witch-hunting fever in 17th-century England, the concept of the “witch” is universal. Nearly all cultures have independently identified this figure of the witch: a magical person, usually a woman, existing on the fringes of society. Societies throughout history have accused, persecuted, and even executed innocent people based on these magical beliefs. Although many consider it a thing of the past, the practice still continues in some parts of the world. Despite our modern understanding of the historical and social factors behind witch-hunting, contemporary screen-based media continues to rely on this same magical thinking when telling the stories of women accused of witchcraft. Whether they’re depicted as “real” witches or as innocent women, an element of the supernatural typically pervades their stories: tales of witches flying around on brooms and drinking the blood of babies, or of terrifying ghosts haunting the communities that tormented and killed them. Likewise, many horror games evoke the supernatural – and our willingness to believe in it – to terrify players. Inspired by this true history of English witch hunts and the tradition of folk–horror, Hunter’s Moon asks you to consider: what if the most terrifying thing in our world is not monsters or magic, but other people? What if our own fears and beliefs are the true sources of horror? Hunter’s Moon invites you to decide this for yourself on the night of the full Hunter’s Moon on October 26. You are invited to wishlist the game today on PlayStation Store. *Hunter’s Moon launches October 25 in North America. In other regions, including UK, Europe, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand, the game launches October 26. View the full article
  11. Today’s State of Play featured a new look at Final Fantasy Resonance, launching October 22, 2026. We’re also excited to announce the release of a free demo for PlayStation 5, featuring the entire first chapter of the game. Save data from the demo can be carried over to the full game. Play Video Final Fantasy Resonance is built on the concept, “What if Final Fantasy had continued to push the limits of pixel art?” The game sends you off on a journey to protect the Crystals scattered across the world and to stop the pursuit of Veritas of the Dark who seeks to destroy the world. This tale of crystals is brought to life in high-definition pixel art in the HD-2D style, alongside familiar Final Fantasy elements such as chocobos and airships, an evolved turn-based battle system, and a more accessible take on the classic job system. Cinematic Pixel Art The opening movie and other cinematics feature a cutting-edge pixel-based style using a production method that renders 3DCG in pixel form to achieve dynamic visuals while retaining the timeless charm of pixel art. Gameplay System – Combat Final Fantasy’s classic turn-based command battles have evolved to deliver greater accessibility and deeper strategy. Timeline: Engage in combat by making full use of the timeline, which displays the upcoming action order of both allies and enemies through the next turn. The timeline at the top of the screen displays the action order, with characters taking their turns from left to right. Stagger Gauge: Depleting the stagger gauge displayed beneath an enemy’s HP bar will stagger them, preventing them from acting on their turn and lowering their defense. Knowing when to stagger enemies by watching the timeline is key to devising effective battle strategies. Gameplay System – Visions Visions: Complete events involving characters you meet throughout the story for a chance to obtain visions, items which are crystallized essences of those characters. Equip visions and win battles to unlock new abilities. Synergies from Equipped Abilities: Once an ability is learned from a vision, it can still be equipped even when a different vision is active, as long as it remains within the cost limit, allowing abilities from multiple visions to be set at the same time. This system is a more accessible and evolved take on the familiar job system from the FINAL FANTASY series, with certain ability setups producing powerful synergies. Legacy Final Fantasy Heroes: Visit vision crystal sanctums scattered across the world to obtain visions of legacy Final Fantasy heroes. Equip them as you would any other vision to harness their powers. The latest trailer released during today’s State of Play revealed that Sephiroth will be making an appearance. Players will be able to find and challenge Sephiroth in hopes of winning and unlocking a special reward. Resonances: When a Sweeping Stagger occurs, you can unleash a Vision-specific special move called “Resonance” at the end of the Extra Phase. Resonances come in many forms—not only delivering high damage but also offering a variety of abilities such as powerful AoE attacks and additional effects. Gameplay System – Espers Progress through the story and complete side quests to unlock powerful summons known as espers. When summoned, espers fight alongside your party for three turns, delivering a powerful finishing move on the final turn before disappearing. 12. Today at State of Play, we shared the first look at an all-new collaboration with the LEGO Group – the LEGO PlayStation – that celebrates the games, experiences, and the feelings of play we have shared as a community for over 30 years. Play Video For the first time, players and LEGO fans will be able to create a LEGO replica of the original PlayStation console and PlayStation controller. Brick by brick, this 1,911-piece set represents a near 1:1 scale of the console, measuring 10.5 inches / 26 cm wide when fully assembled. To bring this set to life, we collaborated closely with LEGO designers to craft a building experience that is inspired by PlayStation’s origins. When building the set, players will notice hidden details from PlayStation’s history and references to two iconic games that launched on the original PlayStation console, Ape Escape and Gran Turismo. Each diorama features customizable elements – Gran Turismo includes a miniature track complete with scaled down cars, while the Ape Escape diorama has a nostalgic island scene with a swappable blue or red light on the monkey’s helmet. 14. After working on Ontos for over a decade, it is incredibly exciting to take a deep dive into the gameplay. Ontos is a spiritual successor to Soma, posing deep philosophical questions to players. Because of this, it is also always hard to figure out how to make it understandable in a short video. The focus of the game is not a tight, moment-to-moment gameplay loop, but a slower-paced experience of researching, testing, and eventually making a few critical choices. Now that we have a chance to showcase 10 minutes, it feels much easier to convey the intended feel of the game. Play Video The main idea of the game is that you encounter complex experiments, each with its own setup, questions, and philosophical dilemmas. In this video, we get to see Crombie, who has been trapped in a computer server made of rats. Or at least that is what he says… As you can see in the video, the game starts by exploring nearby locations. These are often filled with information that helps you better understand the people and issues involved. In this case, there is even a small experiment, a strapped-in rat, that gives a taste of the difficulties to come. Here, players can test theories and make mistakes before encountering the main experiment. Another early character is Zike – who we hear briefly over an intercom. Zike is a man seemingly obsessed with finding the soul. Understanding stuff like this is not just fun lore, but a critical part of the game. The better you understand how a character works, the more informed decisions you can make. Sometimes it is best to avoid certain questions or give answers contrary to your own feelings to achieve the intended results. Verify your age to view this content. Verify your age to view this content. Once we enter the lab, we finally get the Rat Server revealed. I love this setup. Our thinking behind it was just to let a person be made from something that feels highly unlikely. Someone being simulated by a computer is not so hard to accept in this day and age. But by 60 rats strapped to a server rack? That is a harder pill to swallow. The hope is that these setups act as catalysts to other thoughts and questions. Are the rats conscious too? Can two conscious beings inhabit the same physical substrate? This is a good taste of what we want to provide in Ontos. Verify your age to view this content. Verify your age to view this content. After you have met the Crombie (or the rat server, however you wanna feel about the situation), it is time for an experiment. You need to manipulate the probes on the Crombie’s head delicately. Now the player faces many options. You can follow the instructions or try other things based on things you’ve seen and read. The goal with all of this is to create a tense scene by mixing goals, unclear instructions, and always the risk of royally screwing it all up. The experiments can end in many ways, and it is never clear what your options even are. This also makes the game very replayable. The more you play, the more you understand, and the clearer the approaches will be. Ontos comes to PS5 in 2027, and you can wishlist it now. 15. Last month was filled with superhero spectacles, bonding with friends, and a few heavy hitters! Some big new releases included MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls, Big Walk, Beast of Reincarnation, and Madden NFL 27. Which game was your favorite? How does it work? At the end of every month, PlayStation Blog will open a poll where you can vote for the best new game released that month. After the polls close we will tally your votes, and announce the winner on our social channels and PlayStation.Blog. What is the voting criteria? That’s up to you! If you were only able to recommend one new release to a friend that month, which would it be? Note: re-released games don’t qualify, but remakes do. We define remakes as ambitious, larger-scale rebuilds such as Resident Evil 4 (2023) and Final Fantasy VII Remake. How are nominees decided? The PlayStation Blog editorial team will gather a list of that month’s most noteworthy releases and use it to seed the poll. View Poll View the full article
  16. It’s nearly time to rise from the crypt and build your kingdom! Our upcoming cozy puzzle game Fangtopia has been lurking in the shadows and is ready to creepy-crawl onto PlayStation 5 on October 26 – just in time for Halloween! Fangtopia is a world filled with merry monsters and goofy ghouls, crafted by your own hands. You’ll put it together piece by piece, placing tiles onto a hex grid that surrounds a creepy castle of your choice. There are no time limits, so you can carefully consider each placement and enjoy forming the world at your own pace. However, there is a tile limit, and you’ll need to deploy every trick (and treat) in your rotten repertoire if you want to top the leaderboards and perfect your devious domain. What’s this? Tiles come in six types: fields, towns, mountains, forests, railroads, and rivers (only in Ghoulish mode – more on that later), and you’ll often see two types within the same tile. Connecting tile edges to matching terrain types will score points, and advance objectives that spring up as you play. Watch as tiles combine to form a beautiful, coherent world: sprawling forests border quaint little towns, railways wind across lush fields, and yetis gaze down at the world from misty mountain ranges. Unhappy with your placement? You can undo every move you make, pondering which spot is just right for each tile. As you gain points, you’ll be offered landmarks to place in your world, plucked from a collection that expands the more you play. Placing these special monuments is the key to expanding your world – each landmark has a special objective attached which, once completed, will award the player with new tiles for their deck. For example, place a volatile volcano close to a field and surrounded by mountains and watch your tile stack increase, giving you the chance to expand even further A monster mash From otherworldly oaks and whirling windmills to frightful fountains and creepy carousels, there are plenty of Landmarks to find and introduce to your kingdom. Make sure to keep track of them all in your Stickerbook, where you’ll be able to able to inspect all the playful details that bring these buildings to life. As you place tiles, mysterious portals will appear in the oceans around you. Opening these portals will summon a coterie of creatures that bring even more character to your world – once you’ve found room for them. Meet grotty gremlins, wily werewolves, bawling banshees and many more. Each has a natural habitat, and when you find them a home, they’ll reward you by gifting bonus tiles to expand your world. Why not try interacting with them after they’ve been placed? Perhaps a spooky surprise awaits… Would you like to play a game? There are multiple ways to play based on what you enjoy the most. The titular Fangtopia mode includes all of the above and is perfect for a quick session. If you’re itching for more, Ghoulish mode is for you – it adds a new tile type in the form of rivers, lets you swap which tile you want to place, and introduces and introduces bigger tile groups that have to be placed together. Your stack is also larger in Ghoulish mode, making for longer, trickier sessions. More modes may emerge from the shadows in future… keep your eyes peeled for more info in the future. Fangs for everything We’re so excited to share Fangtopia with all of you. It’s come a long way from the bones of an idea into a fully formed creation, and we think it’s going to be the perfect game to cosy up with during the spooky season and beyond. Whether you’re lounging on your sofa and playing on the big screen on PlayStation 5 or hiding under your blankets in bed with your PlayStation Portal, we hope it’ll give you a care-free, scare-free time. Draw the curtains, turn off the lights, and lock up your werewolves – we’ll see you on October 26. View the full article

  18. Early in the production of Marvel’s Wolverine Insomniac Games sent team members to Japan as part of a broader series of location-scanning trips. These trips involved sending our scanning team to various places around the world to record real-world assets, examine natural environments, and acquire an understanding of the real and fictional locations based on real-world biomes and cultures. This article concentrates on the most ambitious and satisfying scanning missions the team has carried out so far. Japan scanning team left to right: Jonnathan Mercado, Christen Borras Alicea, Niina Taniguchi, Reiko Sekine, Chris Devens, Nathaniel Bell. View and download image Download the image close Close Download this image Planning the route A successful scanning trip starts long before anybody has gotten on a plane. There had been months of virtual location scouting and route planning, with huge help from our Sony Interactive Entertainment teams in Japan. The Marvel’s Wolverine environment team blocked out levels and put together detailed requests for assets and biomes. So, our task was to create a route that would give us tons of variety, capturing as many requests as possible within the limited time available. Tokyo to Joetsu to Tsumago-Juku/Magome-Juku to Kyoto and back to Tokyo. View and download image Download the image close Close Download this image On previous trips, we usually tried to minimize travel between scanning locations. Less travel means more time to scan, more time to back up data, and fewer chances for something to go wrong. Our plan for Japan was different. The environments we wanted to capture were spread across several distinct regions, so we committed more in-trip travel than we had ever attempted before. We spent hours traveling down Japanese highways, playing “I spy,” debating whether hexagons are truly the best-a-gons, and buying mysterious drinks from roadside vending machines with very little questioning. Why scan in Japan? For a game like Marvel’s Wolverine, authenticity is built on many layers. High-resolution scans help capture the physical truth of a place: rock, bark, pavement, moss, metal, signage, soil, and all the small imperfections that make environments feel believable. Scanning architecture to create modular art asset kits. View and download image Download the image close Close Download this image But the value of a trip like this goes beyond the scan data. Being in Japan allowed the team to observe how structures are designed and constructed, how materials have weathered, and how local cultural details appear in the environment. Even when a location in the game is fictional, firsthand research gives artists a stronger foundation to build from. Location scanning helps us create places that feel grounded and thoughtfully inspired rather than worlds pieced together from generic library assets. Multiple biomes, one trip Over the course of the trip, the team captured assets across several dramatically different biomes. We moved from the mountainous, snow-covered regions in the east to an underground train station; and from bamboo forests to sunbaked city streets, and to remote side-of-the-road temples. Each location presented its own challenges and opportunities. A Japanese wall transformed into a reusable scanned asset kit. View and download image Download the image close Close Download this image In the mountains, we focused on natural surfaces and cold-weather details: snow, stone, bark, ground cover, and the way winter conditions affect materials. In the bamboo forests, we captured vegetation, organic layering, and the unique density and rhythm of the landscape. Urban locations gave us access to pavement, walls, street-level details, public infrastructure, and the subtle signs of wear that make a city feel lived-in. Underground transit spaces offered a different kind of reference, with distinct materials and architectural patterns. More importantly, it gave the team a deeper understanding of the places, materials, and cultural details that would help shape our vision for the game. Alongside other scanning trips around the world, this work helps us build Marvel’s Wolverine with greater specificity, and respect for the real-world inspirations behind it. It was a challenging trip, but an incredibly successful one, and a meaningful step forward in how we collaborate, research, and bring believable worlds to life. 19. Along with the music and iconic killer Michael Myers, the quiet suburban setting of 1970s Haddonfield is a pivotal element to capturing the legendary horror atmosphere and aesthetic of the Halloween franchise. As the design director for Halloween: The Game, it’s my job to help create the title’s technical and visual identity alongside my colleagues, and that challenge becomes a lot easier when you’re working within one of the greatest horror stories of all time. While our game features recognizable locations and landmarks from the films, we also have an opportunity to showcase lesser-known parts of Haddonfield as we give killers and heroes different sandboxes for the multiplayer survival horror gameplay. One such area is our new map, East Haddonfield, and I’m excited to give PlayStation players a look into it for the very first time today. Play Video The typical midwestern town Halloween: The Game’s other maps are primarily areas we’ve seen and explored throughout the movies. For East Haddonfield, we felt it was important to expand our vision of Haddonfield so that players could explore aspects of the setting that were only subtly touched on in the original 1978 film. We wanted to create spaces that fill in the gaps of the movie’s story. East Haddonfield is a departure from the suburbs of the Midwestern town, going from residential houses to large industrial structures and small businesses flanked by farmlands, highways, and train tracks. It’s a more open, rural playspace centered around a huge grain mill, while also featuring silos, storage areas, and all sorts of nooks and crannies. The mill itself hosts several interior and exterior spaces that lead to unexpected confrontations and escapes. And in between the buildings, you’ll find wrap-around porches, farm equipment, dirt parking lots, and other signs that you’re on the outskirts of town. This map also includes the neon-soaked Rabbit in Red Lounge and Phelps Garage, which should both look familiar to fans. All told, it’s a more chaotic version of the maps you find in the city: haphazard sight lines, uneven fence configurations, and buildings piled up and knotted together in ways that encourage strategic stealth and unique evasion tactics. The openness of the map can create enticing exit routes, but players will have to be cautious taking those chances as they try to avoid Myers. A dominant killing force In the original Halloween movie, Michael drives everything. I think we can all recall seeing him for the first time and how he awakens that powerful, deep fear in the audience. As developers, we needed to make sure that powerful fear was present in our game: this premise of creating a very safe neighborhood atmosphere, and then introducing an agent of unimaginable chaos. We wanted to make sure that every single time you see Michael in-game, you are fearful for your life, knowing that your chances of escape are minimal. His arsenal, his capabilities, even his walk—everything about him had to be unsettling. Michael does in the game what he does in the movies: appearing where you least expect, keeping up no matter what, and killing in unexpected ways. He’s a threat at all times, and his existence drives the terror. We made sure that playing as Michael felt satisfying and powerful, to create that quintessential slasher feel. That’s also why we went for a 1v4 asymmetrical approach. Michael is trying to kill everybody, and everyone else is trying to save as many people as they can, all while ensuring their own survival. Michael gains power as matches progress, becoming a dominant killing force moving through the map. And if you’re playing as one of the survivors, you know that every minute that you’re still alive risks that moment of encounter. So you’re constantly on edge. The perfect blueprint The original 1978 film was the perfect blueprint for us—I think I’ve watched it a billion times at this point. We drew inspiration from the craft that went into making that film: the camera work, the lenses, the color grading, the time period. We conducted a lot of research of the 70s for authenticity and we also had priceless access to pillars of the film’s creative team. We had Nick Castle, the actor who played the original Michael Myers, doing mo-cap and sharing his insight on how to best capture kills. We continually speak with Malek Akkad at Compass International Pictures about his knowledge of the film and its legacy, and also spoke with the legendary John Carpenter himself for his perspective. These conversations influenced our emphasis on the game’s story mode and its chapters—one of which occurs on the East Haddonfield map. I feel very proud of every piece that went into developing this game: the thousands of decisions and elements we’ve created that come together to make sure playing feels fun, thrilling, and unmistakably Halloween. We’ve come a long way, and I can’t wait to share the game with fans everywhere! Halloween: The Game launches on PS5 September 8. View the full article

  24. When we think about combat in Fable, we think about more than defeating enemies. We think about giving players the tools to approach encounters in their own way, experiment with different abilities and create a Hero that feels unique to them and their preferred playstyle. Play Video That’s why combat in Fable is built around what we call “style-weaving.” Style-weaving allows players to seamlessly combine strength, skill and will, weaving together melee attacks, ranged weapons and magic in ways that feel natural and rewarding. From the beginning of development, one of our goals was to ensure combat feels smooth and responsive and fun, whether you’re landing a perfectly timed melee strike, chaining abilities together or unleashing powerful magic in the middle of a fight. Some Heroes may favour a direct, aggressive combat style, charging headfirst into danger with a sword in hand and a loadout full of high-damage spells, like Fireball or Lightning. Others may prefer a more tactical approach built around enemy manipulation and controlling the battlefield, utilising spells like ‘Befowl’, which allows the player to turn an enemy into a chicken temporarily, and Lift, which temporarily lifts enemies into the air before slamming them back down to the ground. As you progress through the game, you’ll unlock new weapons, abilities and magical powers that can be combined in different ways, allowing you to discover a playstyle that feels right for you. The choices you make in combat are yet another personal expression of the Hero that you’re becoming as you venture through Albion. We also recognise that players are looking for different levels of challenge as they travel throughout Albion. Some will want a more relaxed game, with a focus on the world, story and characters around them. Others will seek a greater challenge that pushes them to master every mechanic and system available. That’s why Fable allows players to choose the combat intensity that’s right for them and tailor the experience to suit their preferred playstyle. Ultimately, the combat system supports the same philosophy that runs throughout the rest of Fable: player choice. We want players to feel ownership over the Hero they create, the decisions they make and the way they tackle every challenge they face. We can’t wait for PlayStation players to begin their own adventure when Fable launches on February 23, 2027. Players who pre-order the Premium Edition will receive up to 5 days Early Access. So, check out the trailer and read on for additional insights. Play Video Marvel’s Wolverine features fast, fluid, and ferocious combat with an emphasis on aggressive momentum. Learn new Techniques for enhanced combat moves or unleash rechargeable Special Techniques like the Tornado Spin to reclaim territory, chin check brash Reavers with Knee Breaker, or drill into ‘em with Spiral Strike. Whatever your speed, four Special Techniques can be equipped at once for seamless combat integration. Evolve with Adaptations that amplify Logan’s momentum on the battlefield. Absorb more bullets, increase Rage effectiveness, expand parry windows, or straight up terrorize foes during mid-fight. This only scratches the surface; there are dozens of Adaptations to tune to your playstyle. Go even further with Rage, a three-tiered pool of adrenaline that leans into survivability, resilience, and fury… in that order. Make a last stand against the odds and fight another day, or go berserk and kill without mercy to sustain Logan’s Rage. Marvel’s Wolverine features an original story that will take Logan to places around the world, but things get dicey. Bolivar Trask is hellbent on executing his plans against mutantkind. It’s up to Logan and Jean Grey, alongside members of Team X, to sever his plans before it’s too late. In a world with too few mutants to form safe havens or organized heroic ensembles: this is a critical moment for mutant survival. And while you’re out travelling the world, testing your battle skills against villains like Omega Red and Deathstrike, make sure to chop it up with your crew or take a detour between encounters: use senses to seek out Nightmare Doors to complete a variety of combat and traversal challenges; sniff out collectible whisky bottles to uncover Logan’s forgotten memories; or listen for material crates to craft suits inspired by comics, movies, animation, and more. In addition to our original Battle Reborn suit, designed by Insomniac Games, we’re talking legendary stuff inspired by Weapon X, Old Man Logan, Ultimate Wolverine, Patch, or even down to civilian staples like a tank top or a leather jacket. And you can choose to toggle some of those cowls and hats on or off. Acquire more suits for health upgrades or gain access to new claws: bone claws, notched claws, curved claws, reflective claws, angled claws, and more claws. Look sharp, stay sharp. Marvel’s Wolverine also includes over 100+ new, returning and improved Accessibility Features from previous Insomniac games, like High Contrast visuals, Audio Description (English), Global Game Speed, and Strong Haptic Signals. By nature of the character, Marvel’s Wolverine is unapologetically violent and gory. To give players more choice in how they experience the game, we included new categories for violence and adult language toggles. These alter dynamic blood and dismemberment, and filters for English-only adult language. Check out a list of Accessibility options in Marvel’s Wolverine here. 26. When we decided to reunite the full Sex Bob-omb lineup for Scott Pilgrim EX – Back in the Band, available now, we knew that simply adding three new playable characters wasn’t enough. Stephen Stills, Kim Pine, and Knives Chau each needed to feel like they had always belonged in the game, both mechanically and visually. Play Video At Tribute Games, animation is never just about making a character move. Every pose, transition, and tiny reaction is an opportunity to communicate personality. Those subtle details are often invisible at first glance, but they’re what make a character feel alive. With contributions from Samantha Lhoir and Artem Samoilov, 2D Animators at Tribute Games. Building a Character Select Screen With Personality The first challenge was updating the Character Select screen to welcome the three newcomers. Our artist, Artem Samoilov, began by considering the overall composition, ensuring the expanded cast still felt balanced while naturally drawing players’ eyes toward the new additions. Since these are beloved characters, simply standing in place wasn’t enough. Every idle animation had to communicate who they are before players even pressed a button. “Each selection animation was designed as a tiny performance.” – Artem Samoilov Kim Pine carries herself with quiet confidence and just enough attitude. Knives Chau radiates restless energy, always looking ready to spring into action. Stephen Stills appears relaxed on the surface, but careful observers might notice a subtle moment of surprise… a tiny expression that lasts only a fraction of a second. It’s a detail many players may never consciously notice, but that’s exactly the point, explains Artem. Those fleeting moments are part of our animation philosophy at Tribute Games. Rather than simply moving a sprite from point A to point B, we look for opportunities to inject emotion, personality, and humanity into every action. Sometimes it’s a quick facial expression. Sometimes it’s a tiny secondary motion or a subtle visual effect that gives an animation a little extra sparkle. Individually, they’re almost imperceptible, but together they give our characters far more heart. Early concept sketches helped establish each character’s silhouette, posture, and personality before our art team refined them into the pixel art seen in the final game. Even small adjustments like changing a stance, exaggerating a pose, or tweaking an expression can dramatically improve readability while staying faithful to Bryan Lee O’Malley’s iconic characters. Seeing the concept work alongside the finished sprites highlights just how much iteration goes into making every animation feel natural. Designing Knives Chau’s unique fighting style Knives Chau was one of the most exciting characters to develop because she brings a completely different rhythm to combat. Designed as a fast hit-and-run fighter, Knives thrives on speed, mobility, and relentless pressure. Her scarf becomes both a stylish visual element and a weapon, extending the reach of her attacks while emphasizing her acrobatic movement. Combined with rapid knife strikes, she can quickly weave through enemies before darting away. As with every character added in the Scott Pilgrim EX – Back in the Band DLC, our goal wasn’t simply to recreate an existing personality; it was to translate that personality directly into gameplay, animation, and every frame players see on screen. Scott Pilgrim EX and the DLC Scott Pilgrim EX – Back in Band are available now on PlayStation. View the full article

  28. Hello, PlayStation players! I’m Zhicheng, producer at GD Studio. Our team has always been fascinated by the quiet stories that live inside ordinary rooms: the cup left beside a bed, a plant turned toward the window, or a dusty letter tucked behind a stack of books. These small details can tell us who lived there, what they cared about, and what they may be trying to forget. That idea became Whisper of the House, a cozy organizing game where tidying is more than a satisfying task. It is also a way of listening. Today, we are opening the doors of Whisper Town to PS5 players. Play Video A room can tell a whole story In Whisper Town, you take on the role of the town’s all-around housekeeper. Residents ask for help moving into new homes, clearing cluttered rooms, preparing shops for opening day, arranging treasured keepsakes, and sometimes finding a missing cat. Each request begins with a practical problem, but the objects you touch gradually reveal the person behind it. We designed rooms as small portraits of their owners. A carefully preserved object might suggest a memory someone cannot let go of. A half-finished corner can reveal an abandoned plan. Even the placement of something ordinary can change the feeling of a space. We wanted players to experience the pleasure of making a room functional while also wondering why it looked that way in the first place. This is why we do not treat organizing as a checklist with only one correct answer. Some commissions ask you to understand what a resident needs; others give you more freedom to create a space that feels right. As you decide where things belong, you are also interpreting a life through its belongings. Making every object worth touching Whisper of the House contains more than 1,800 pieces of furniture and over 10 home layouts. That variety matters because decorating should feel personal, whether you want to build a book-filled study, a sunroom crowded with plants, or a secret base stocked for every emergency. Wallpapers, flooring, and selected furniture can also be adjusted in color or texture, giving you more ways to shape a room’s atmosphere. But quantity alone was never the goal. We spent just as much time thinking about tiny reactions. Press a button on an old gramophone, squeeze a bath duck, or pull a single tissue from a box, and the room responds. These interactions do not always advance a quest. Instead, they reward curiosity and make the town feel handmade, playful, and alive. To make every action feel deeply satisfying, we paired these interactions with rich, tactile sound design. The soft clink of ceramic, the rustle of a turning page, and the quiet breeze outside your window all come together to create a calming, ASMR-like soundscape. Our aim is for picking up, moving, and placing an object to feel immediate and immersive without disturbing the game’s gentle rhythm. Cozy on the surface, curious underneath Whisper Town is warm and welcoming, but it is not completely ordinary. As you help its residents, strange details begin to appear: the number 42 floating inside a museum, a rumor about a mischievous ghost near the well, cracks that seem to hide something impossible, and letters that raise more questions than they answer. We like to call this side of the game ‘cozy snooping.’ You are never forced to rush toward the next revelation. Instead, mysteries sit quietly beside the organizing and decorating, waiting for observant players to notice them. The same attention that helps you find the perfect place for a keepsake may also help you spot something that does not belong. This balance was important to us. The game is a comforting place to slow down and build beautiful spaces. But if you look closer, there is always a reason to stay. The town’s hidden story grows from the same objects, homes, and relationships that make its daily life feel cozy. A home of your own Helping other people is only part of your life in Whisper Town. The rewards and furniture you collect can be used to create a space that belongs entirely to you. There is no single ideal home and no pressure to follow one style. You can make something neat and minimal, cheerfully crowded, carefully themed, or wonderfully strange. That freedom captures what we hope players take from the whole game: organizing is not about making every room look the same. It is about understanding what matters, choosing what to keep close, and creating a place where a story can continue. Whisper of the House is available today on PS5. A 20% launch discount is active for a limited time. We cannot wait to see the rooms you create, the residents you meet, and the secrets you uncover. Get it now on the PlayStation Store and see you in Whisper Town! View the full article

  30. Over the past several months, Sega has pulled back the curtain on many high-profile projects from its global studios. At Gamescom 2026, six of our titles will make their playable debut for the public: Total War: Warhammer 40,000, Persona 4 Revival, Crazy Taxi: World Tour, Stranger Than Heaven, Alien Isolation 2, and Sonic Pico Park. Here are some first gameplay details of what the attendees in Germany will experience starting today: Persona 4 Revival Developer: P-Studio Persona 4 Revival is set in the peaceful-yet-unsettling rural town of Inaba as it’s struck by a series of bizarre murders. Players take on the role of a teenage transfer student as he and his friends solve supernatural mysteries connected to the Midnight Channel—a mysterious TV phenomenon that reveals dark secrets on rainy nights. The hands-on demo that we are showing is built around three sections – fittingly named Channels – each meant to show off different parts of the remade adventure. On Channel 1, players experience the story from the beginning and are dropped into the eerie Shopping District section. Explore the district and confront the first Shadow, Spiteful Hablerie, and awaken your Persona, Izanagi. Channel 2 offers free exploration of P4R’s modernized dungeons. Set in Yukiko’s Castle, the dungeon’s battles prepare players for the section’s conclusion: a challenging boss fight against Shadow Chie and her Persona, Tomoe. Press and creators have the exclusive chance to select Channel 3, which offers an extended look at daily life in Inaba. After a couple of in-game days poking around the town, players can venture into Yukiko’s dungeon. Within, they will experience the new Prime Time meter and utilize it to unleash explosive, combo-laden destruction. Players around the world can experience this modernized take on the RPG classic when it comes to PlayStation 5 on February 18, 2027. Total War: Warhammer 40,000 Developer: Creative Assembly Total War is heading to the grim darkness of the far future with Total War: Warhammer 40,000. This entry marks the series’ first march onto PlayStation. In the Gamescom demo you take command of the Space Marines across three distinct scenarios that escalate in scale and difficulty. The first scenario throws players straight into the maelstrom of combat while guiding them through the fundamentals of war. It covers core controls and gameplay basics such as camera movement, unit selection, combat, and all-new features such as the reinforcement system which allows drop pods to thunder down upon the enemy. The second scenario opens with the new customization system, letting players forge a Space Marine army that feels uniquely theirs. Choose your colors, select your heraldry, name your force, and prepare them for conquest. From there, players move their army across a limited section of the galactic campaign, interact with basic strategic systems, and carry those choices into a medium-sized battle against the Orks. The final scenario is the biggest test of the demo, putting players in command of a huge force as they take on a massive Ork horde across a grim Imperial battlefield. This is where you feel like a true armchair general: war machines and warriors clash in spectacular style, abilities tear through the environment, and tactical choices mean the difference between life and death. Total War: Warhammer 40,000 arrives in 2027. Crazy Taxi: World Tour Developer: Sega Crazy Taxi: World Tour is playable for the first time with the newly revealed Germany map, one of five international maps in the upcoming game. Announced with a new trailer set to Bad Religion’s “Ten in 2010,” another iconic song returning for the game’s soundtrack, the new map includes familiar regional landmarks as well as some renowned brands such as Puma and Zwilling. The Germany map’s terrains are packed full of winding streets and twisty turns. Drivers hitting the road will be tasked with fine-tuning their driving skills by mastering the game’s “Crazy Moves” – Crazy Dash, Crazy Stop and the new Crazy Drift. Paired with the new Nitro Boost for an added burst of speed, players will soon find themselves drifting around tight corners, tearing across fields, and executing slick combos as they take on a variety of extreme missions and challenges. Players not attending Gamescom have an opportunity to get their own early hands-on of the game by applying for a chance to participate in the Crazy Taxi: World Tour Multiplayer Closed Network Test, taking place September 11 to 13. Submissions for the network test close August 31, so don’t miss out! Crazy Taxi: World Tour dashes onto PlayStation 5 next year. Stranger Than Heaven Developer: RGG Studio Stranger Than Heaven’s hands-on demo highlights an all-new look at three of the five eras & cities in protagonist Makoto Daito’s fifty-year journey across Japan. Whether a bustling train station in the industrial town of Kokura in 1915, or the snow-covered naval city of Kure in 1929, or finally the rain-soaked nightscape of Minami in 1943, this new look at different areas within these cities highlights RGG Studio’s ambitious world-building. Players will also get an updated look at the game’s innovative combat system that uses the shoulder buttons & triggers to control the left and right sides of Makoto’s body independently and intuitively in chaotic street brawls. Stranger Than Heaven heads to PlayStation 5 on January 15, 2027. Sonic Pico Park Developer: Pico Park Inc. Developed by Tecopark and published by Pico Park Inc., fans around the world will be able to experience the signature puzzle-driven co-op action from the original Pico Park titles, but with a Sonic the Hedgehog twist. Players choose from their favorite Sonic characters including Sonic, Knuckles, Tails, and Amy along with the new addition of Shadow the Hedgehog. Fans can either work together as a group to finish each puzzle or cause some classic Sonic chaos along the way. Sonic Pico Park will be launching later 2026 with up to 8 players and will have cross platform and online capabilities. Stay tuned for more. Alien Isolation 2 Developer: Creative Assembly Following directly from the original game, the prologue mission of Alien: Isolation 2 drops players into the wild frontiers of Kurosaki, a Weyland-Yutani colony in a far-flung galaxy. It’s here that a section of Sevastopol station – the orbital facility that set the scene in the first game – crashed… and guess who (or what) hitched a ride to the planet’s surface? Players will take their first footsteps in the game as Blake, the game’s new protagonist, as she investigates the wreck and unwittingly releases the Alien from its captivity. What followed was a terrifying game of cat-and-mouse as players tried to escape the ultimate killing machine. Many players made it out intact… but not all. We can’t wait to see what happens next.
