Today, we are stoked to share more about our “come back stronger” and Eclipse escalation gameplay with you all in Saros, which launches April 30 on PlayStation 5 and enhanced for PlayStation 5 Pro. Play Video This footage, captured on PS5 at 60fps, is still a work in progress, so expect tweaks, fixes, and upgrades for our launch. The Passage has you The Passage is a Carcosan temple with a vast history for you to discover and serves as the game’s central hub. In the Passage you can speak with other Echelon IV crew, explore more world building, and find a mysterious banyan tree. It’s also where, using our come back stronger mechanics, you can upgrade yourself using collected Lucenite and Halycon from your eclipse cycles on Carcosa. Armor Matrix upgrades your playstyle Upgrading is done via Echelon IV’s Primary unit, a Soltari AI that allows you to adjust your Enforcer Armor via the Armor Matrix. By using your collected resources you can upgrade your armor to suit your playstyle. Do you want to upgrade maximum armor integrity so you can take more damage? Do you want to make Lucenite gain faster so you collect more per cycle? Or upgrade your armor’s power capacity to have longer shield usage? Key additions like our Second Chance system are also unlocked as you progress through the Armour Matrix. World Dial Teleportation allows fast travel Primary also allows you to teleport directly to any previously unlocked biome, making our cycles more digestible. Marathon runs are possible, but you can also now teleport directly to your last biome start. On death your collected main and power weapons will be kept, so if you found a great Soltari shotgun, or Carcosan weaponry on death, you will start with it once again. Carcosan Modifiers change your experience With Carcosan modifiers you can adjust your experience to make Saros more challenging or more forgiving. Carcosan Modifiers come in two types: Protection Modifiers reduce challenge by doing things like decreasing incoming damage, making it easier to reload your weapon, or extending the time you can use your Shield. By contrast, Trial Modifiers make the game more challenging by making Hostiles more aggressive, your weapon’s power degrade over time, or even removing your Second Chance ability entirely. The combination of Modifiers you choose is entirely up to you, but crucially Protections and Trials must be kept in balance to ensure a consistent challenge level. Eclipse escalation In Saros the eclipse corrupts the weapons, artifacts, world and people’s minds. Arjun must push through the eclipse to find answers, but with every attempt it adds corruption to Carcosa. The eclipse also changes certain biomes properties. Episode Mode blends American comics and Japanese manga into a new form of storytelling adapted for a modern video game format. The story is presented as motion comics, centered around manga illustrated by celebrated artists. The game will feature full voice acting across 10 languages (English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Latin American Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin), and the game’s music and audio will support spatial audio with PS5’s Tempest 3D AudioTech*. I am thrilled to finally be able to deliver updates on Silent Hill: Townfall, following our announcement back in 2022. Screen Burn may be a small development team, but they have taken their time to craft a game that we can now present with confidence. In today’s State of Play, we revealed a new trailer that gives you a glimpse into the world that awaits. Please enjoy. Play Video To explain more, I will hand it over to Jon McKellan, Writer and Director at Screen Burn Interactive on Silent Hill: Townfall. A new chapter With Silent Hill: Townfall, we at Screen Burn Interactive wanted to both evolve the unique narrative design that we had experimented with in our past games while pushing into ambitious territory, with a new town to explore, horrific enemies to fight and evade, and story-driven puzzles that help deliver a new but distinctly Silent Hill tale of mystery, tragedy and loss. With our first full trailer release, we have shown a slice of what to expect, answered some long lingering questions, and likely raised some new ones too… The CRTV – reimagining the iconic radio The new trailer picks up where the 2022 teaser trailer left off, showing an old pocket television playing cryptic video signals on its display. This time, though, we get to meet its owner, Simon Ordell, and see the device in action. Drawing on our previous experience designing interactive ‘retro’ user interfaces and VHS-style aesthetics, we wanted to take the handheld radio – an iconic tool of the Silent Hill series – and evolve it in our own way. The result of that evolution is the “CRTV” – a lovingly crafted device that uses real retro technology and innovative techniques to produce the gritty, authentic audio and video used throughout the game. While the Silent Hill radio has often been a passive device, alerting the player to nearby enemies through the sound of static, the CRTV takes this concept further. Not only is it a useful tool in encounters – allowing Simon to ‘see’ through the environment and locate nearby threats – but it also picks up signals from around the town that unveil more of the story and even help guide Simon through some of the other challenges he faces. A terrifying point of view As shown in the latter part of the reveal trailer, the gameplay is experienced directly through the protagonist’s eyes in first person, in a change that we felt best matched our narrative, puzzle and design intentions. Environments feel rich with detail as players search for clues, while narrative-driven puzzles feel tactile and intricate, requiring an attention to detail that only this viewpoint could provide. The CRTV especially could only truly work in first person, allowing the player to raise it into view while they explore, tune into signals and discover broadcasts, and gain an advantage in otherwise terrifying situations. Horror-oriented Combat – knowing when not to fight This perspective also lends itself well to our new brand of combat, where violence is visceral and nerve-wracking, and there is no third-person perspective separating you from the horrors of the town. While there are many different melee and ranged weapons to use in a pinch, sometimes fighting isn’t the best option. Using a combination of the CRTV, some environmental opportunities, and an intuitive peek system, stealth is an equally important strategy needed to survive. With these varied gameplay options comes varied challenges from the enemies themselves. Draw too much attention and they will dynamically hunt the player, using their senses to track them down as best they can. Having the options to run, distract, hide or take on the enemies in combat – as well as switching tactics if things don’t go as planned – is a vital part of what we consider a truly horror-centric encounter design. PlayStation 5 – feeling them draw near To round off the experience, we’ve looked to make the best of the DualSense wireless controller in Silent Hill: Townfall, leveraging its many features to weave intricacies into interactions, add weight to the feel of combat, and amplify the tension of encounters dynamically. Being stalked by a terrifying enemy through the streets of the town is one thing, but feeling its footsteps rumble as it moves closer to your hiding spot out of sight is another entirely! That’s all from myself today, so I would like to hand things back over to Silent Hill Series Producer Motoi Okamoto. While the story and setting may differ from Silent Hill 2 or Silent Hill f, this game will still retain the feeling of Silent Hill that players are familiar with. A rich narrative, challenging puzzles, and moments of quick-thinking during stealth come together to craft a truly artisan experience. This game shines as one of the most aesthetic and sophisticated entries in the series. Players who seek a more refined experience will especially appreciate this game, as it offers intellectual discoveries through puzzles and analysis, while the town’s atmosphere and the portrayal of the Otherworld will entertain players through its aestheticism. Wishlists are open today on PlayStation Store. Stay tuned for more information on the upcoming release for Silent Hill: Townfall. View the full article

Hello PlayStation community! Everyone here at Saber is very excited because we can finally share our next big project with you. And ‘yeah’, it’s a John Wick AAA game! Stay tuned for the game’s official title and release date; we’ll reveal both in time as well as more details about the story and setting. Play Video We are working closely with Chad Stahelski (John Wick director and franchise visionary), Keanu Reeves, and Lionsgate to produce a highly anticipated, adrenaline-fueled experience that fits into the world of John Wick. This game takes place during a specific period within the John Wick timeline and contributes to the expansive and rich lore of the franchise. Like many of you, we are huge John Wick fans, and having the opportunity to bring one of the most captivating and successful action franchises to life on PlayStation is a rewarding experience for us. The story is being created in collaboration with our writers, Chad Stahelski, and Lionsgate. It is an original gameplay narrative that addresses a significant time in John Wick’s life, featuring well-known and iconic characters, as well as compelling new characters specifically created for this production. There are signature elements from the John Wick movies that are also present in the game, incorporated to enhance the overall interactive experience. Things like the unique use of camerawork; the notable bold and cinematic environments; and of course, the extremely distinctive gun-fu action and intense driving experiences. All of this is going to be fundamental to what this untitled John Wick game offers PlayStation 5 gamers. Our goal is to create a wholly immersive experience unlike any other in video games. Something that blurs the line between movies and video games, making it something truly special. We are creating new, high-stakes, fully interactive mechanics that make players feel like they are in a John Wick movie, by playing the role of the Baba Yaga himself. The style of fighting will feel like an authentic John Wick action scene taken straight from the films. Everything is designed to faithfully mimic the movie experience in a meaningful, fully playable way. In order to achieve that, we are developing a distinct combat system from the ground up to ensure we stay credible to the iconic style of John Wick. We are creating rich, neo-noir environments that will also contribute in a major way to creating a thrilling experience. John Wick is about the fine details and iconography present throughout various locations and environments that players can visit during the course of different missions. Although difficult to summarize everything we are doing to make this John Wick game a truly exceptional experience, we hope you can envision more of it with this message that we are glad to share with you. We are really looking forward to the moment when you can play the John Wick game on PlayStation 5! View the full article

In today’s State of Play, we revealed a brand new Castlevania game! This 2D exploration action title is in development between Konami, Evil Empire, and Motion Twin. Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse will launch 2026 on PS5. In this PS Blog post, we’d like to expand on the announcement to explain more about its gameplay and art style. But first, we’ll set the scene of the game’s story. Play Video Medieval Paris, where the tolling bells herald the end The game is set in 1499 Paris, a city attacked by monstrous creatures suddenly emerge from the shadows. Armed with the legendary holy whip, the Vampire Killer, Trevor Belmont’s successor ventures into the burning streets and the looming castle to hunt down the beasts. Weapons and abilities That’s right: the series’ iconic whip returns and is more important than ever. Crack your whip to move around freely like a trapeze artist and master its mechanics to get creative and pounce on your prey like a wolf in fast-paced combat. However the whip is not the only tool at your disposal. There will be more weapons and abilities for you to master. In today’s reveal, you can see our hero use the Sword, which is easy to use and offers solid attack power. There’ll be more weapons and abilities revealed in the future. You will need to strategically plan your next move in combat and make full use of the tools to hand to stand a chance to save the city from the brink of destruction. Beloved elements of Castlevania with a new art style True to the roots of the series, you will encounter colorful characters and powerful foes, stumble upon many secret chambers, dig up numerous hidden items (yes, certain walls can be broken to reveal health-restoring meat items), and whip your way through challenging areas! As example, did you spot the familiar Zombie enemy in the trailer? They appear early in the game and while they move slowly, making them easy to defeat, they can become troublesome in large numbers. The trailer also fully showcases the game’s unique art style, a unique colorful approach that stays true to the classic gothic look but will let you discover the world of Castlevania like never before. That’s all for now, but you won’t have long to wait to play: Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse launches this year on PS5! View the full article

I’m Sergey Mohov, Lead Gameplay Designer on Control Resonant, and I’m excited to walk you through what you’ve just seen in our latest gameplay video which debuted in the latest State of Play. If you missed it, you can check it out below. The footage offers a glimpse of Dylan in action as he hunts a Resonant in the shifting landscape of the West Incursion Zone, one of the areas you can explore early in the game. It’s a place that feels familiar at first glance but has been reshaped by otherworldly forces actively breaking reality apart. Control Resonant isn’t an open-world game, but it is built around large, distinct, and expansive zones filled with side activities, hidden encounters, and optional discoveries. A strong, central narrative guides you through the world, while still leaving room to explore and uncover what’s been left behind in the chaos. The West Incursion Zone is a good example of this approach, gradually becoming more distorted as architecture folds in on itself, and gravity behaves unpredictably. In the video, you’ll hear a voice speaking to Dylan. That’s Zoe De Vera, an FBC Field Agent, and one of the new characters we are introducing in the sequel playing a key role in Control Resonant. Zoe acts as Dylan’s handler in the field, offering guidance and context as events spiral out of control. Her relationship with Dylan is an important part of the story, pushing him to confront who he is, what he’s capable of, and what it means to hold onto his humanity in the middle of a supernatural crisis. Dylan’s supernatural abilities As Manhattan grows more twisted, traversal across the different zones becomes as much a gameplay challenge as it is a spectacle. Dylan’s supernatural abilities, such as Reach, allow him to navigate spaces that no longer obey regular rules of physics. You’ll also encounter areas where gravity and orientation shift entirely, called Gravity Anomalies. By activating his Shift ability, Dylan can adapt on the fly, redirecting momentum and movement to traverse these spaces. A road might be flipped upside-down above Dylan, or the roof of a building might be tilted sideways, acting as a vertical bridge. If you can reach these surfaces, you can walk on them normally. The challenge lies in re-learning what “ground” is and spotting pathways on surfaces that are now at war with gravity. Dylan wields the Aberrant, an otherworldly, shapeshifting melee weapon that is a central element of the player’s combat arsenal. As shown in the video, it can transform into multiple forms, like Hammer, Blades, Scythe, and Fists, giving players a versatile toolkit to define their approach to combat. There are other forms too, but we are not revealing them yet. Progression is all about building your perfect combat flow. You’ll constantly expand your toolkit by unlocking new Aberrant forms, supernatural abilities, and combos. There are also deeper customization systems, which let you specialize and power up your favorite moves. Before heading into combat, you can equip your chosen abilities and weapon forms to create a loadout that defines your unique approach to fighting, whether on the ground or in the air. Introducing the Resonants The video also introduces one of the game’s powerful boss enemies, known as Resonants. Resonants are remnants of people who once held great power, now corrupted and twisted by the same mysterious force threatening reality itself. While encountering Resonants is dangerous, defeating them is the primary way Dylan expands his supernatural arsenal, as each one he vanquishes rewards him with a brand-new combat ability. This is why our game is called Control Resonant! We hope you enjoyed this first extended look at Control Resonant gameplay. The West Incursion Zone is only one part of a much larger, stranger journey, and we’re excited to share more with you in the coming months. On behalf of our entire development team, thank you for your excitement for our game! Things are going to get weirder. Control Resonant will be released on PlayStation 5 in 2026. You can wishlist it now. View the full article

The Brigandine series has had a long history with PlayStation, with the first title launching on the original PlayStation back in 1998. Now, six years after the release of Brigandine: The Legend of Runersia, the series once again brings players to a fantasy world where battles take place on a hex grid. Before we continue, let’s take a look the teaser trailer! Defend your territory from invasions in this fantasy strategy RPG This installment of Brigandine tells the story of a powerful empire scheming to conquer the continent and six different protagonists who find themselves facing this great evil. The player can choose to play as the leader of one of six factions as they navigate events that will shape the history of the continent of Meltitea. Strategically command troops of monsters to overcome trial after trial—and bear witness to every twist and turn along the way! This latest entry carries forward series staples, like fighting battles on hex-based maps using troops of knights and monsters, various RPG elements, and over 100 units with their own skills, elements, and traits. However, it will also feature some brand-new systems (details to come)! Plus, 3D graphics bring the game’s wide array of battlefields to life, providing a sense of immersion to its deep strategy gameplay. In addition to the six stories following the six main characters, there are also optional side quests which follow each of the continent’s 24 factions. This makes for a staggering combined total of 200+ hours of playtime—enough to satisfy even the most die-hard players! Finally, we have a message from the producer: “Hello, everyone. Let me introduce myself. My name is Masaru Saito and I’m the producer of Brigandine Abyss. Brigandine is a series of strategy RPGs that each feature their own settings and characters, making Brigandine Abyss an easy title to pick up even for newcomers to the series. There’s actually an interesting story as to why I was brought on for the development of Brigandine Abyss, but I’ll save that for another time. In any case, I hope that by reading this you’ll know that, in part thanks to that special connection, I’ve poured my heart into developing this game.” Brigandine Abyss is brought to you by a new development team, and we hope you look forward to it! More details on the game and its exact release date will be announced at a later date, so please stay tuned! View the full article

PSBlog Feed: Inside the gameplay systems of 4:Loop
Commander Fury posted a topic in Playstation Blog
Hi, I’m Mike Booth, Chief Creative Officer at Bad Robot Games, and Game Director of 4:Loop. A core goal when I’m designing games is to make new kinds of experiences that always offer interesting surprises and unpredictable moments for players, and for our own dev team! To achieve this means building emergent gameplay. The result is 4:Loop, an unpredictable, challenging, combat sandbox where you succeed through cooperation and improvisation. Play Video What is 4:Loop? 4:Loop is a rogue-like co-op shooter where you and three friends try to save the world from a devastating alien invasion that turns 99.99% of humanity into glass. A massive Mothership suddenly appears above Earth, striking the planet with a powerful energy beam leaving humanity frozen in time. You’re one of the “lucky ones” who escaped being glassed and now must find a way to stop the invasion to save the world (no pressure). Of course, since we’re Bad Robot, there are a lot of mysteries to unravel, including why you were spared. The gameplay loop Decide At the heart of 4:Loop is the Probability Map which combines alien technology and human ingenuity to predict the immediate future and plot your best path forward to defeat the invaders. Each node of the Probability Map represents a distinct mission type with its own risks, rewards, and surprises. Players vote on which node to start from, keeping in mind that each node chains together into specific routes. You need to look ahead and decide on the strategy your team thinks is best. As you progress and the game throws increasingly bigger curveballs, the stakes are raised. Seasoned players will discover creative ways to use the Probability Map to their advantage, setting their team up for ever more epic runs. Fight Of course, no plan survives contact with the enemy. Once you’ve chosen a node on the Probability Map, your team teleports into the mission. You may have to hack into alien technology, collect mission critical resources or even rescue survivors that can offer powerful upgrades for your team while trying to avoid the alien forces constantly sending drop pods of Killbot squads to stop you. As long as one person from your team manages to survive and reach the Escape Zone, the run continues. Anyone who died during the mission is “reprinted from backup” in your Homebase. But reprinting from dying means gaining a broken bone that can only be healed by the medic at a Rest Stop. If everyone fails to survive a mission, the entire run ends. Each section of the Probability Map culminates in a Boss Battle. There are currently three very different Bosses in 4:Loop. You’ll want to check which Boss you’re up against and choose your loot choices carefully. Each Boss is designed to push on team co-operation in a different way to really test your team’s mettle. Choose a reward When you survive a mission and beat a Boss, you return to the Homebase, where the Probability Map operates. This is a place for your team to readjust strategy, evolve your loadout, and select rewards from an increasing array of powerful gear and upgrades. During your run, you might also encounter The Shop, another key place to acquire valuable items and gear. Each visit gives you a new chance to spend the Cache you’ve been collecting in the world, find that missing piece of equipment you need, or inspire a change in your play style for the run. Equip & strategize There are many different weapons, items, and abilities in 4:Loop that players can combine in creative ways for improved combat, intel, movement abilities, stealth, hacking, and healing. It’s all about the choices you make during each run. Should I pick a jetpack or an SMG? There are so many items to choose from, and the combinations are infinite. Built for replayability Once you make your gear and Probability Map choices, it’s time to head back out to take on the invasion! 4:Loop is a world that’s been carefully crafted and filled with surprises, bursting with exciting ways to play. Our talented level designers and artists create the environments, but starting location, mission objectives, enemies, and how loot appears, are always unique. Plus, the time of day and weather are also randomly generated, which really changes how the missions unfold. The various enemies, creatures, plants, weapons, items, and mission objectives are also designed to interact with each other in dynamic ways that create emergent gameplay and endlessly replay-able chaos. That means your decisions really matter, and creativity and improvisation are key. No two runs are ever the same. As a developer, I’ve always been driven to make the kinds of games I like to play, going back to the original Left 4 Dead. I’m a bit old school and I like things straightforward. Our plan with 4:Loop stays true to that: Once you buy the game, we’ll update it based on what players like. Our goal is for you to have a great time, invite your friends, and we build a thriving community together. If you want to give 4:Loop a try for yourself, we are currently recruiting for the Beta*. Click this link to sign up! Just don’t expect to save the world on your first loop. Now go and fail to save the world! I’ll see you all in the game! *The Closed Beta will be available on PS5 & PC coming soon this spring. Signing up for the Closed Beta will put players in the FirstLook queue to participate. The Closed Beta will be available to players in North America with additional regions being rolled out throughout the Beta Phase. Stay tuned for more details – We can’t wait to share more very soon. As we just announced in State of Play, Ghost of Yōtei Legends is coming on March 10*! Play Video Legends is our online co-op multiplayer mode where you’ll team up with friends to challenge monstrous, supernatural versions of the Yōtei Six. It will arrive in patch 1.5 – free for all Ghost of Yōtei owners!** Legends will launch with three mission types. In Survival, you can team up with up to three other players to take down waves of increasingly difficult enemies on one of four maps. You’ll fight to control territory on each map. While you control a location, you can activate a Blessing, offering you an advantage in battle. But if you lose control, you’ll unleash a Curse, putting your team at a disadvantage. Each map will have its own unique Curses and Blessings. In Story, you’ll team up with another player to tackle a series of 12 missions. After completing each set of three Story missions, you’ll unlock an Incursion, which is a large-scale four-player assault on a stronghold belonging to a member of the Yōtei Six. Each Incursion will culminate in a boss fight versus a giant, supernatural version of the Spider, the Oni, the Kitsune, or the Snake. As for the other members of the Yōtei Six, in April we’ll release a Raid putting your team to the ultimate test, where you can expect to take on the Dragon and Lord Saito himself.*** In Ghost of Yōtei Legends, you can play as one of four classes: Samurai, Archer, Mercenary, or Shinobi. While any class can use a katana and ranged weapon, they also each excel in a different one of Ghost of Yōtei’s weapon and combat systems, and can each earn their own unique armor cosmetics as you complete feats through gameplay. The Samurai can wield the ōdachi and has access to the widest range of weapon types, the Archer can use the yari (spear) as well as carry an additional ranged weapon, the Mercenary has access to dual katana with a variety of utility-focused abilities, and the Shinobi can use the kusarigama, as well as a suite of stealth-focused skills. Beyond the loot you earn as you level up, you can also earn additional Legendary weapons and gear as you tackle higher difficulty challenges. Of course, Photo Mode will also return so you can set up action shots with your teammates while you’re making your way to the highest levels. And if you need to unwind between missions, our new Legends lobby will let you practice combat and archery, challenge your friends to a game of Zeni Hajiki, or see if you can set the high score in Bamboo Strike. The fan response to Legends was one of the most rewarding parts of launching Ghost of Tsushima, and we’re so excited to see the mode return for Ghost of Yōtei; we can’t for you all to dive in! We’ll share regular updates on our social channels, so be sure to follow us for more about Ghost of Yōtei Legends as we get closer to March 10! * Ghost of Yōtei Legends will launch on March 11 in some territories including Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. ** Internet connection and account for PlayStation required. PlayStation Plus subscription (sold separately) required for online play or multiplayer. PS Plus is subject to recurring subscription fee taken automatically until cancellation. Age restrictions apply. Terms apply: play.st/psplus-usageterms *** Available in future update (patch version TBA). View the full article

It’s good to be back! After releasing Kena: Bridge of Spirits, we took some time to figure out what we wanted to create next. We explored ideas that could capture the heart of what made Kena special while building on everything we’d learned along the way. When we began thinking about returning to her world, we were drawn to the idea of Kena as a more experienced Spirit Guide who could use her skills to help the living, not just those who had passed on. Play Video In Kena: Scars of Kosmora, Kena is older and renowned as a Spirit Guide. In hopes of finding answers to the affliction she has endured all her life, Kena travels to the mysterious island of Kosmora. Home to distinct cultures and regions, Kosmora is full of buried secrets from a tragic past. On Kosmora, Kena is confronted by a powerful spirit that fractures her staff. A spirit guide’s staff is their identity – their tool to help and commune with spirits. Kena’s staff was also keeping her alive. To survive, Kena must accept Kosmora’s forgotten form of Spirit Guiding which uses Alchemy to manipulate the power of the elements. Elemental spirit companions are a big part of this world. They are charming buddies that travel with you, grow over time, and unlock new powers as your bond deepens. Each spirit is tied to a different element and connected to other spirits that exist throughout the world. We revealed one Spirit so far, but we have only scratched the surface. There’s much more we are saving for later! Don’t worry though, there will still be plenty of corrupted souls to cleanse. We want players to feel Kena has grown in skill and capability. We’ve added new elemental gameplay to bring strategy and depth when facing the threats of Kosmora. These new combat skills, elemental infusions and use of your Spirit Companions will be key to overcoming challenging encounters and epic boss fights. While we’d love to talk to you more about the story you’re going to experience, we’re very conscious of anything remotely spoiler-esque. We’ve put a ton of effort into crafting the narrative for Scars of Kosmora, and the team is focused on creating an emotional and heartfelt adventure for returning players of Kena: Bridge of Spirits and those new to Kena’s world. We hope you enjoyed what you saw in the trailer. Partnering with PlayStation Studios has empowered us to craft an even larger world – one built with an emphasis on tightly designed regions, deliberate progression, and a strong sense of adventure. We’re super excited to share more in the future and can’t wait for you to get your hands on what we’ve been crafting. The reception for Bridge of Spirits was humbling, and we hope to deliver on what everyone loved about the first game and more. Kena: Scars of Kosmora launches on PlayStation 5 and PC this year, so stay tuned for more updates. See you in Kosmora! View the full article

Tarsier Studios is no stranger to invading our dreams. Its Little Nightmares series scared up some wonderfully disturbing gameplay that has lived long in memory, and now its spiritual sibling Reanimal is ready to pull us into another intense co-op platforming experience. I was given access to the full game ahead of its February 13 release to feel first-hand the many delightful horrors that await. A dark, dreamlike opening Reanimal doesn’t waste any time, with a disconcerting intro to its protagonists. I started as The Boy, floating alone in a boat adrift in a sea of darkness. A press of R2 drove me towards a single red light bobbing on the horizon. That light led to another. And then another. Until eventually I stopped to haul a masked figure out of the sea…who immediately tried to strangle The Boy, my DualSense controller shuddering in the attempt. It turns out this was The Boy’s sister, their reunion a sharp tone-setter for the brutal world ahead and an indication of how vital their collaboration is to survive. Varied environments keep you guessing While Reanimal starts off in bobbing waters, the setting changes and evolves in your search for the siblings’ friends Hood, Bucket, and Bandage. Your adventure across a fragmented island pushes you to an abandoned factory, an unsettling forest, a sinkhole-plagued city, and a waterlogged workshop, just for starters, before things vastly open up for more non-linear exploration. Each area demonstrates that Tarsier can make practically anything creepy, with derelict gas stations, a bank of rattling washing machines and even playground animals feeling like an unspoken threat. A focus on visual storytelling As with the Little Nightmares series, Reanimal relies on minimal dialogue to convey its story. The characters speak in places, but many of its narrative beats are told through body language and smart use of camera angles to convey claustrophobia, tension, and direction. Not to mention the level design, which always provides a clue to your next objective or where to go, albeit often subtly. Speaking of design… Sounds to make you quiver Great audio design is essential to any horror game, and Tarsier leans into its genre experience with a creeping aural dread that can lurch into a full-blown jump scare. Music is used sparingly, leaving the sound effects to deliver the shivers and the DualSense wireless controller’s haptic feedback to accentuate the shudders. A particular favourite of mine was the distant jingle of an ice cream van which foreshadowed…well, let’s just say I definitely screamed for ice cream. Teamwork is essential If you don’t have a human partner to survive with, Reanimal’s co-op artificial intelligence is more than capable of keeping you company. In my playthrough, The Girl followed quickly when needed, swiftly responding to a press of the Triangle button when we needed to give each other a boost to out-of-reach platforms. Alternatively, a tap of L1 gets her to interact with certain elements in the environment. For example, one puzzle required me to walk across a giant metal drum which was spinning too fast to traverse. The Girl was prompted to flip a switch to temporarily stop the drum from rotating, long enough for me to get across it and create a platform for her to follow. The co-op AI even occasionally performed acts that pushed me into action. During a particularly tense sequence involving the inside of a runaway van, a giant smashed through a window in an attempt to grab the masked siblings. Given the game’s general avoidance of direct combat, my first instinct was to hide, but my partner leapt up to strike the brute, making me realise I had a weapon to join in the attack. Chilling set pieces are never far away You’ll be doing a lot of sneaking, running, and hiding in the many haunting scenarios that make up Reanimal, with cinematic chases and rooms full of strange, slithering skin. One of my personal highlights was preceded by a crackling night-time movie theatre, with awkwardly posed bodies and shadowy flickers which made for a deeply unsettling experience. And while I died many times in some of the trickier areas, the quick respawn points were never far from where I made my mortal errors. It’s not just about primal survival Environmental puzzles play a big part of the game, ranging from simply finding wheels for a pump trolley, to more elaborate tasks. One had me in a forest of cut trees, where a solitary saw embedded in one trunk hinted at what my next action should be. Another had the siblings’ use a car for a battering ram, take a complex detour to rescue Hood, then have to find and fill a gas canister to refuel the car to escape an increasingly hostile situation. There are many secrets in the shadows Hidden away in the dark corners of the game are collectibles such as masks and concept art to find, some requiring steely nerves, keen eyes or just the twisted desire to dive into areas which go squelch in the night. Better bring a flashlight – you’ll see how dark things can get when Reanimal launches on PS5 February 13. View the full article

Last year was a big year for No Man’s Sky. Even we struggle to know how we pulled off so many large updates last year – Worlds Part II and Voyagers were both transformational and released in the same year, interspersed with smaller but significant updates in Relics, Beacon and Breach. As we head into our 10th year post release, our small team is excited for our first update of the year. Play Video Our new update is called Remnant and it introduces something that we’ve been wanting to give players since the very beginning – a gravity gun! The Gravitino Coil is a powerful new anti-gravity module for your multi-tool. It turns No Man’s Sky into a physics playground. Allowing you to grab large objects and fling, toss or carefully carry them around the world. Salvage and debris that could always be found on planets can now be collected and recycled for rare and highly prized resources. New trucks, tipping flatbeds and haulers can be constructed, to transport resources back to industrial yards for reclamation. You can work alone or join a salvage crew with friends. It creates this really fun and tactile new loop of searching for wrecks, loading trucks full of cargo and hauling across the alien landscape to industrial yards to gain new loot and rewards. Sorting and depositing materials in these all-new Waste Processing Plants will reap great rewards. Some of the scrap is highly volatile though and must be transported extremely carefully. It’s hard to resist over-stacking your truck, finding one more piece you think you can cram in, and then trying desperately to transport this house of cards on the back of your flatbed. Our gravity gun is an industrial tool, but it can also be used as a ballistic weapon, grabbing sentinels or fling heavy objects, turning them into projectiles. Vehicles can be hugely customised, to create bespoke trucks and haulers for your needs. Build your own brightly coloured incinerators, spider legged sci-fi explorer or heavily armed military vehicles with tank tracks. The Remnant Update comes with a limited-time community expedition. It brings travellers together in convoys to clean up and reclaim a planet covered in wrecks and salvage. Perhaps you’ll be a hauler, or the gravity gun wielding ground crew or maybe a scary yard operator. There are beautiful rewards, including dozens of new vehicle parts, and an all-new beautifully crafted armour set, with plush, padded fabrics and ornate steam punk detailing. 2026 represents 10 years since we launched on PlayStation and I couldn’t be prouder. For any game to reach such a milestone is a privilege. It wouldn’t be possible without your continued support and we genuinely appreciate it. Our journey continues. View the full article

In an unprecedented and unforeseeable event, the Cyborgs have returned to once again threaten the liberty and sovereignty of Super Earth and its inhabitants. This nightmarish turn of events follows the discovery that the Automatons seized the schematics for the Star of Peace with the intent to build one for themselves and use it for their dark and violent purpose. They have been tasked by the Cyborg Legion to carry out these crimes. Play Video The Helldivers have been ordered to take on the dark and grim streets of Cyberstan’s cities and stop this collusion of bots and Cyborgs in its tracks! The factory cities Now Super Earth is taking the fight to the heart of Cyberstan. Drop into the bot homeworld and prepare to breach the fortress walls of their massive factory cities. Fight through the inhospitable landscapes that power the Automaton war machine: industrial complexes that are heavily defended with hazards around every corner. The community of Helldivers must work together to clear a path through Cyberstan’s factory cities–choose which cities to destroy, making sure to bring down every building and leave no bot standing as you democratize these heartless machines. New mission & objectives Your primary mission will be to stop the production of more Cyborgs, as well as compromise Automaton defenses trying to stand in your way. Helldivers will also have the opportunity to clean up: destroy their mega factories building by building, and tear down the symbolic statues of the war criminals and terrorists revered by Cyborg scum in order to further destabilize and demoralize their regime. But beware–an old familiar threat rises in these dark, foreboding streets: the Cyborgs have returned with new weapons of mass destruction. Old enemies return You must face down three new types of enemies in the Cyborg subfaction. Outsmart the Agitators, who command the Automaton legion in the field, are heavily armored and can take control of enemy squads, making tactical decisions on the battlefield. Fight them while the Cyborg Radicals rush you from every side to make the fight up close and personal. They are the most extreme vision of a wretched Cyborg-run future: they push their bodies to the limit with cybernetic and bio-enhancements, turning themselves into a mockery of humanity. And finally, fight the Vox Engine: the Voice of the Cyborg Legion. This war machine, piloted by a high-ranking Cyborg officer, rolls across the battlefield, blaring Cyborg’s propaganda. It is armed with dual laser cannons, rockets, laser gatlings–all to ensure no one can stop the spread of their message. Helldivers call for aid And Super Earth shall answer! Along with the recently-deployed Siege Breakers Warbond which features defensive assistance like the G/SH-39 Shield, Helldivers will also be able to purchase the War Horses set of armor in the Superstore. Global reinforcement limits Sending reinforcements to Cyberstan is a great risk for Super Earth, which means it will be essential for the Helldivers to stay alive for as long as possible. Every death will be counted in the Battle for Cyberstan, using a Galactic Reinforcement Counter marking the finite number of Helldivers able to be deployed. If the counter reaches zero, it means we have lost the Battle for Cyberstan. Helldivers, we cannot lose to this renewed Cyborg threat. Your objectives must be completed while ensuring maximal lifespans for all divers. Stim your squadmates, bring defensive stratagems, and survive as you fight your way across Cyberstan, destroying the factory cities together! The latest Helldivers 2 update, Machinery of Oppression, is live now! *Requires base game, paid purchase of Super Credits, and game progression to unlock. Gameplay requires internet access and paid-for PlayStation Plus membership (sold separately) on PS5. View the full article
