LAS VEGAS (Reuters) - Microsoft Corp's (MSFT.O) Xbox video gaming unit still fully backs Toshiba Corp's (6502.T) HD-DVD high-definition DVD format but could consider supporting Sony Corp's (6758.T) rival Blu-ray technology should consumers want it, an executive said on Tuesday.

"It should be consumer choice; and if that's the way they vote, that's something we'll have to consider," Albert Penello, group marketing manager for Xbox hardware said when asked whether Microsoft would support a Blu-ray DVD accessory in the event that HD-DVD failed.

Microsoft does not believe the surprise decision last week by Time Warner Inc (TWX.N) unit Warner Bros, the top seller of home movies, to abandon HD-DVD format in favor of Blu-ray should affect sales of its Xbox 360 video game console, Penello said.

"I fundamentally don't think ... this has a significant impact on Xbox 360 versus (Sony's) PlayStation 3," Penello told Reuters in an interview at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

"With the PlayStation 2, DVD was a big part in the beginning, but over time, people were not buying it as a DVD player after first year or two," Penello said.

The Xbox 360 supports a plug-in HD-DVD accessory that is bought separately, while Sony, hoping to give its next-generation video format a leg up, built a Blu-ray player into its PlayStation 3 machine.

"You can't say it's not a bummer, not a setback, but I've seen this battle declared over so many times," Penello said of Warner's decision.

"I want consumers to have a voice in this and I think there are a lot of consumers who bought HD-DVD who are going to have a say in how this shakes out."

Warner Bros is the movie division of media conglomerate Time Warner Inc (TWX.N).

They must be doing a lot to make Confrontation be the best SOCOM. Because this game at E3 was set to be released November of 2007 and now its going well into the next year. They must be doing a lot of work to make this game great. So w/e it releases i'll be happy cause i have CoD4 now.

- Juggernaut - This just equals that you have no confidence in your aim ahhahhah. But nah useless if you get naded, shot in the chest which most people shoot at, or run into a claymore.

- Martyrdom - Does not work around skilled players.

- Last Stand - This perk is dumb around good players...

- Double Ammo - Dumb since you can pick up a weapon really easily.

- Perk where you can carry 2 weapons, also dumb since you can pick up weapons...

there are more but i cant remember them....

When you reach LEVEL 55, you can enter a Prestige mode. Which means, you get a new ICON RANK and your rank resets, meaning you lose all of your weapons and challenges and start from LEVEL 1 again. But you have the new RANK ICON to let others know that you've completed the 1st level of prestiege. THere are 10 Presige levels, good luck.

And NO GAME has ever come close to giving me the intesity that you get on round 11 on map 5 of a 5 map war with the score tied and 1 person left on each team with 2 minutes left for a championship title after playing in the tournament for 23 weeks.

 

Sorry no other game comes close to that kind of intensity

I don't know why many times we try to answer something, people begin to view it as a "don't question us" mentality or think it will go down that road.  And when it's certainly not that mentality, and smoeone merely mentions it as such, like Wiz there, people can instanly latch onto it and think that's really how things work here.  You should know this by now and thinking anything but really discredits us as a whole.

 

Listen, guys....it's a NEW game.  New to us, UF, anyway.  We're trying some things out.  Different things.  Seeing what fits and what doesn't.  It's an evaluation, FOUR week tourney.....I think ANYONE can live with a little change in even their favorite things.  I don't understand the small hush over a small crowd when they learn that S&D may be changed for the Crucible.  It's not like this is the 13-week tacmap tourney.  All of the sudden, people think we're messing with the Bible and don't care about your love of the game or your feelings.

 

And as for asking you to clarify, HTK, you weren't being called to the mat.  For the most part, I solely construct the actual rules and game play here in UF, so I value opinions...and sometimes I do try and get into the mentality of the gamer, to see WHY you like things and why you DON'T.  It helps UF become better through each and every tourney.  I wasn't questioning you.....I was merely asking a question.

OH i know man, i'm upfront with all my stuff and i like people to be upfront with me. Like i said and like you said 90% of the game is Respawn so why not leave S&D the way it was meant to be.

But then again like you've stated its a 4 week tourney so its really not a big deal in the end.

I personally hate respawn because there is no real point in staying alive because if you die you can comeback, beats the whole purpose of playing the game.

 

So let me ask this....from a purely analytical standpoint......if you personally hate respawn because there is no real point in staying alive, and it beats the "whole purpose" of playing the game....then why do you elect to play a game that's pretty much 85% respawn?  I think Search and Destroy is the only mode without a respawn, correct?

I like the gameplay, graphics and my clan is on it. When i log on and nobody is on, i play only search and destroy. There's a value to actually stay alive and not die. Respawn is more like, Chaos. People all over the place, no order at all. I still play it tho, but i personally do not like it. One mode that isnt respawn now has 2 lives/respawn. I dont want you to get mad or anything i'm just speaking my mind.

I agree with WiZ, S&D is the best mode and with 2nd life you guys are taking the "REAL FUN" of S&D. Whole point of Search & Destroy is no Respawn, its 3min. rounds it should stay like that. All the modes are pretty much "RESPAWN" instead of S&D so why take that away?

only true SOCOMers know the feelings they have experienced with the game. I dont think i'll ever forget the people i've met and the crazy clutch wars that socom brought. CoD4 is nice and all, even great. But SOCOM had a certain FEELING to it that i still havent found in any Shooter to this day. That alone says something about the game.

Now, lets play some Sujo or Enowapi as seals.

We're all the same people here, We love our 3rd person shooter SOCOM. There is so many memories, so many friends, its like a cult. Get on every night with the same people. It truly is a family. Everybody would log on, head over to their server. You practically know everybody who plays in your server. The lobby system is priceless and by far the best for online gaming. Zipper may have messed up with cheaters, no updates and broken promises. But their online LOBBY SYSTEM is the best and i think these other gaming companies need to learn from them on that aspect.

I'm 73% goat and 73% god... hahahahhahaha Man i miss SOCOM.

Nothing better than trying to enter the basement in Death Trap. Makes me want to play the game now.

I still prefer Dazzle 150 i believe, but i love the video.

yeah snipers are pretty ghay in CoD4. IW tried to patch it up with the last patch but the problem still exists. The problem starts with lag, even tho you dont virtually see anybody lagging, but you do see it on the Killcam.

Do you die sometimes where you started shooting the guy before you but he kills you? and on the killcam it shows him kill you before you even started shooting. There is this NON SEEN lag thats like half a second to a second, that really plays a big role into the sniping.

I'm makin one for the contest thing. There sure are a lot of icons... :'(

oh okay thanks, cause i got about 10 - 15 guys that have been playing together for 5 plus years. We're used to these types of leagues/tournaments cause we were in the NSL.

 

Those might prepare you for our Crucible and Black tourneys........but when/IF you get to a full-blown tacmap UF tourney, nothing really prepares you. LOL

 

And if I didn't say this before, welcome to the UF Community.

no, it just means if you only have 4 guys in your clan playing cod4, they could temporarily join another clan, with your permission, to play in a UF tournament. they can also leave the othere clan at anytime.
