  4. PlayStation players, the new era of Call of Duty is nearly here! Jump into an epic launch on October 28 featuring a gripping Campaign, innovative, world-class Multiplayer and an evolved, cooperative Special Ops game mode. Let’s dive into more details on what players can experience in Modern Warfare II. Experience Modern Warfare II on PS5 Above and beyond some core details about the game that we’ll dive into later in this blog, PlayStation players should be excited about how immersed they will feel in the Modern Warfare universe by playing on PlayStation 5. Below are some of the features that elevate the Modern Warfare II experience on the console: Adaptive Triggers Experience the all-new weapon handling in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II in the ultimate way with the DualSense controller’s adaptive triggers. Adaptive triggers create the feeling of weight on the trigger with varying degrees of pressure. This weight creates a more accurate experience in-game with each weapon. For example, the SMG that you’re using in close quarter scenarios as you make your way through compounds will feel lighter on the trigger than, say, the hefty feeling of the LMG that you’re using to fend off large groups of charging enemies from a distance. This adds to the immersive experience of the game, particularly in Campaign, but is an optional feature that players can use in Multiplayer and Special Ops as well. Haptic Feedback With unprecedented global conflict, comes riveting and action-packed combat. With the haptic feedback in the DualSense controller, you’ll feel the blast and force of each moment, allowing you to experience the action in your own hands. Whether you’re being slung from side to side in the back of a Cargo Truck as you dodge enemy fire and exploding vehicles, handling the powerful recoil of your weapon as you navigate high intensity combat situations, or sliding and diving out of site when trying to allude watchful enemy eyes, feel the impact of every move in-game. 3D Audio Whether you’re fighting offshore to siege enemies as waves are crashing around you or breaching a highly fortified enemy base on land, you’ll feel like you’re in the middle of the action with 3D audio, supported by PlayStation 5. Hear enemy bullets cracking through walls and flying past your ears with locational accuracy to intensify an already tense gunfight or listen closely for the sounds of approaching enemy footsteps to identify their position. Stunning Visuals As your team is preparing for an ambush and scanning your surroundings, notice the breathtaking environment and stunning 4K visuals on PlayStation 5. details in Modern Warfare II on PlayStation 5 will pull you deeper into your surroundings and deeper into the action, whether you’re looking up at a vivid starry sky disturbed by pops of orange and red explosions in the distance, daring death along a sheer mountain cliff with a majestic waterfall in the background, or stealthily walking along the richly detailed cobblestone streets of a Fall day in Amsterdam. Campaign – Globe-trotting single-player The Modern Warfare II campaign takes place three years after the original formation of Task Force 141. When a U.S. airstrike eliminates Al-Qatala’s leader, his successor vows revenge and creates an unexpected alliance with international drug cartels to transport stolen U.S. ballistic missiles to use against the United States. Under the guidance of Station Chief Kate Laswell and lead by Captain John Price, Task Force 141 will team up with Mexican Special Forces to take on a new threat while untangling a complex web of corruption happening in the most unexpected places. The Modern Warfare II campaign will send players across the globe with multiple different settings and playstyles allowing for refreshing experience as players go mission to mission. If you haven’t already, this is the time to jump into the Modern Warfare II universe and dive into the narrative prior to the start of Season 1. Multiplayer — Innovative, immersive, and world class Modern Warfare II Multiplayer defines emergent gameplay with a focus on variety and is ready to welcome new recruits as well as seasoned veterans. For launch there will be 12 unique modes, 10 traditional modes on Core Maps and 2 Ground War modes on Battle Maps. The new revamped Gunsmith coming to Modern Warfare II will allow players to customize their loadout and expand their arsenal like never before with the introduction of Weapon Platforms and Weapon Tuning to create a true extension of player’s personal playstyle while exploring each platform’s strengths. Multiplayer will feature over 30 unique Weapon Platforms available to unlock through the Military Ranks with each Weapon Platform containing up to 6 weapons, which can be obtained by leveling up specific weapons within a Weapon Platform. Special Ops — Replayable co-op An evolution of the Special Ops mode from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019), this co-op experience will feature 3 missions at launch, all taking place in Al Mazrah. In Special Ops, Operators will equip a Backpack to store equipment and choose from one of three available Kits: Assault, Medic, and Engineer. Each of these Kits offer a variety of items and abilities built for different strategies and ways of approaching each mission. Squad up October 28 Modern Warfare II is available October 28 on the PlayStation Store. And don’t forget to pre-order on the PlayStation Store to get the Oni Operator Pack at game launch*, which we detailed in a previous blog. 16. When Frey Holland is transported to the mysterious land of Athia, one thing quickly becomes clear: this isn’t just her new home. It’s her playground. The hero of Forspoken is capable of amazing magic-enhanced parkour, which lets her jump, flip, zip and leap around the world with astonishing fluidity. You can get a close-up look at how it all works in our new parkour deep-dive: Play Video So, what exactly was Frey doing in this video? Read on and we’ll tell you a little more about the parkour skills at her disposal – and how she can use them. Flow This is one of Frey’s core powers – and the beating heart of the parkour in Forspoken. It’s activated by holding down the circle button – when in this state, Frey will dash through the world with stunning speed and amazing grace. She’ll automatically leap over small rocks and ledges, jump up small walls and do everything she can to keep pushing forward in the direction you tell her. Of course, there are limits. Using Flow alone won’t let Frey scale a cliff face or climb up a tall building – plus it requires stamina. To really get around with style, you need to combine Flow with Frey’s other moves, and learn how to chain them together. Think of it as the foundations of a system that puts you in control of traversal, rather than the game doing it all for you. The better you play, the better you move – and the cooler Frey looks. Rush The Rush ability lets you Flow even faster by working in well-timed button presses. As you use Flow, you will occasionally see flames briefly emanating from Frey. Press the circle button upon seeing this visual prompt, and she’ll burst forward keeping up her fastest pace. Even better, it also lets you keep up top speeds while restoring some stamina. It’s a good example of how Forspoken’s parkour system is simple to learn but has a real sense of mastery. Someone new to the game can get around fine with the basic Flow, but skilled players who work in Rush can go further and faster, for much longer. Shimmy Want to get your speed up fast? Time to Shimmy. This move lets Frey kick off the ground to accelerate. Press X at the right time and Frey will perform a short leap forward. If you press X again when she lands, you can continue to dash forward at amazing speeds. It’s also great because it’s another move that conserves stamina. Many skills draw on this resource, and when it runs out, so does Frey’s current run. Sometimes taking a well-timed breather is helpful as her stamina will recharge quickly when Frey is not using an ability. This is why skills like Shimmy and Rush are so useful. Because they don’t consume stamina, they let you extend a run far beyond what you’d normally be able to. The better you play, the longer you can keep your flow going… and the more awesome you feel! Scale Flow can get you some of the way up a wall but to get higher, you need to learn to Scale. This ability lets Frey create phantom footholds to launch herself into the air. You can use this to give yourself the boost you need to reach the top of a structure or launch off to keep moving seamlessly through the world. Having this extra jump available is great, but do you know what would be truly awesome? Having an extra extra jump. Speaking of which… Soar Soar lets you climb even higher by doing multiple leaps in quick succession. As the name implies, Soar enables Frey to reach incredible heights that are unattainable with a normal jump – that extra height is a real game-changer, letting you reach areas that would otherwise be inaccessible, and opening up even more opportunities for flamboyant parkour. Okay, so maybe it’s not the flashiest skill in Frey’s repertoire, but it’s one that you’ll wonder how you ever lived without! Zip Zip though – now that is flashy! By pressing the square button, you can make Frey launch a magical tether, which pulls her towards anything it connects with. It’s useful for keeping you pushing ahead in situations where you’d otherwise fall short of a ledge, or to bypass scenery that could otherwise slow your forward momentum. Alternatively, you can hold square to slow the action and target areas that you specifically want to pull yourself towards. While Zip can latch onto any wall, it really comes into its own when you target certain objects found around the world. These let Frey swing forward at incredible speeds or launch herself high up into the air! Float You’ve Flowed, Scaled, Soared and Zipped your way up high, but you need to get down in a hurry – what do you do? Use Float of course! This endlessly useful ability lets Frey manipulate gravity itself to soften any fall. Simply hold the X button in the air, and you can gently drift downwards at a controlled speed. Of course, the applications go well beyond mere survival – it’s also fantastic in general traversal situations. Float lets you effortlessly bridge large gaps – want to get to the other side of a ravine, or leap from building to building? In many cases, you can simply glide over to where you want to be. Just be careful – you’ll still be descending slowly, so when going over long distances, it’s best to combine with other parkour abilities like Zip. Glide Water slows you down, blocks your path and often contains many-teethed monstrosities eager to use you as a chew toy. In other words, it’s the enemy of parkour. Unless you have the Glide ability, of course. You’ve probably seen this one in the trailers. It lets Frey skim across the surface of the water. If Frey has learned the ability, it automatically activates when you use Flow in the splashy stuff – simply hold Circle to start surfing. The speed and style at which you can travel makes every lake, river and sea an opportunity for stylish showboating. it’s particularly useful when fighting some of those aforementioned moist monsters – with this ability you can run rings around them. Or, more accurately, Glide rings around them. Forspoken is one of those games where the act of movement itself is enormous fun. Traversal isn’t just about getting from A – B, it’s about getting there with skill and style. It’s up to you to discover how to combine these different magical abilities to achieve that feeling of ‘flowing’ through the world, and when you do it’s enormously satisfying, and endlessly enjoyable. You’ll be able to discover it for yourselves when Forspoken launches on January 24, 2023 for PS5. Learn more at PS Store. View the full article

  22. We heard you loud and clear. You wanted more Blue Fire Void platforming levels, but instead of dropping only new levels, we’re also giving you a level editor to make your own Voids! Let your imaginations run wild by designing challenging, epic, or silly levels with Void Maker DLC. Unleash your creativity! Were you ever jumping around the Voids and wondering what it would be like if there were giant donuts, eyeballs, and dragons? Or maybe that was just us. The good news is all that and many other silly items are available in Void Maker for you to enjoy. As we developed Void Maker, we realized the tool had so much potential beyond creating levels that were like the Voids in the main game. We ended up adding more content than what we had originally set out to include, like NPCs, enemies, themes, playlists, and much more. We feel all this allows you to create levels where anything is possible! Get to know your tools Void Maker has many assets from the main game, including NPCs, void models and more, but it also has a ton of new items that were made exclusively for the level creator itself (models, music, mechanics, and lots of other crazy stuff!). This might sound overwhelming, but we developed Void Maker as a simplified level-making tool so that you can focus on creating fun and interesting levels rather than having to learn a complex piece of software and modding new content into the game. Tips to make fun levels There are many ways to start designing, the most obvious of which are either randomly testing things out and experimenting or having something specific you want to create. Either way is perfectly fine. Since we know a thing or two about making Voids, we’re sharing some tips to help you make amazing Voids. Determine what type of level you want to create. Do you want a straightforward platforming challenge, a puzzle-like adventure, or a story-driven level with NPCs? Knowing a basic idea of what you want the final product to be is a great start.Look at the art options and think about what you want your Void to look like. This helps you understand what items to use.Think about how difficult you want the platforming to be. Not all these factors need to be pinned down from the beginning—and that’s both normal and okay! But the more that are defined, the better. After or during the conceptual development of the level creation comes the execution. This is a slow and nonlinear process that can vary from level to level, but overall should look something like: Blocking out the basics with simple shapes and mechanicsIterating on thatAdding artPolishingAnd finally quality testing New Voids to conquer Void Maker includes a pack of 24 original Voids to master—made by fans and some members of Robi Studios! Due to limitations, you will not be able to share and download levels online. Blue Fire: Void Maker DLC will be available for free on PS4 and PS5 on November 1. View the full article

  25. When the team at Firaxis Games was first approached with the chance to create a new game with Marvel Entertainment, we were obviously super excited! We knew we wanted to create a game featuring tactical combat as we had a lot of experience creating those types of games with XCOM. However, we quickly discovered that designing a Super Hero game is very different from creating a game about soldiers combating an alien invasion. Today, I’m excited to talk to PlayStation players about our journey to design a brand-new heroic combat experience, why we landed on using cards to represent hero abilities, and how that system works in Marvel’s Midnight Suns. The theory behind cards To understand why we use cards, it’s important to break down what makes a tactics game fun in the first place. All tactics games are essentially puzzles, and our job as designers is to find the right balance between that puzzle being too easy and obvious, or nearly impossible and insanely complex. Our goal is to find the sweet spot where the answer isn’t immediately obvious, but the player understands the mechanics and tools to manipulate the game and reach the solution. However, over time seasoned players will learn the optimal way to use those tools and quickly overcome any obstacle. That’s where randomness comes in. Randomization is an important design element in tactics games, as it offers a way to make the game unpredictable even when a player has mastered the core mechanics. It requires players to constantly adapt to new situations and keeps the puzzle fresh and surprising. And it’s how you end up with those amazing moments in XCOM, like hitting a clutch 25% shot… but also how you end up missing those 95% point-blank rounds! Another critical element of tactics games is fulfilling the player fantasy. In Marvel’s Midnight Suns we have an awesome roster of heroes from across the Marvel Universe, ranging from the cosmic-powered strength of Captain Marvel and brilliant mind of Tony Stark to the mystic arts of Doctor Strange and vampire-hunting prowess of Blade. Our early prototypes put these characters into XCOM-style combat with elements like percentage hit chance and cover – And while the mechanics worked fine, the game didn’t feel right. These are Super Heroes, after all! Iron Man doesn’t miss shots with his Repulsor Blasts, and Captain Marvel isn’t going to take cover for protection when things heat up. As we removed more of those XCOM elements, particularly the percentage hit chance, the game began to feel more heroic…but the combat puzzle quickly became too simple. It was easy to repeat the same powerful attack with a hero each turn until the mission was over. We needed to reintroduce randomness to keep the combat puzzle engaging while still making you feel like a Super Hero. That’s when we had the idea to represent our hero abilities as cards. Cards are great because they are commonly used in games and players are familiar with key “mechanics” like a deck, draw, and discard. Drawing a hand of cards each turn gave us the perfect amount of randomness for our combat experience. Our heroes feel super-powered in combat because their abilities never miss and always do exactly what they say, but there is still strategy required to solve the combat puzzle based on which cards are in your hand. Fight and think like a Super Hero In Marvel’s Midnight Suns, every hero has a unique set of abilities which you use to form a deck of 8 cards. When heroes are brought into combat, their decks are shuffled together and at the beginning of each turn you draw up to a hand of 6 cards. During your turn, you have three Card Plays that represent how many times you can use your abilities, along with two Redraws to swap out abilities you don’t want to use. You can also Move a hero of your choice anywhere you want once per turn. Regarding the abilities themselves, we separate them into three categories: Attacks, Skills, and Heroics. Attack cards are used primarily to deal damage. Some Attacks have Knockback which forcefully repositions an enemy by throwing them back in a targeted direction – You can deal additional damage by throwing them back into objects, other enemies, or even your allied heroes! Skill cards are used for support, often providing a variety of benefits to the player or debuffing the enemy. While these cards don’t deal damage, they can be used to draw cards, heal characters, grant positive status effects, and much more. Heroic cards are incredibly powerful abilities which deal significantly more damage or provide stronger effects on the battlefield. Marvel fans will be delighted to see many iconic hero abilities represented with these cards. Heroic cards require a resource called Heroism, which is generated by playing Attack or Skill cards. Heroism is also required to use objects on the battlefield in Environment Attacks which don’t require a Card Play to use. If you’ve got the Heroism, you can knock down light poles, explode barrels…even pick up a stack of newspapers and smack your foes in the face, all without spending a single Card Play. Combat in Marvel’s Midnight Suns is uniquely accessible and easy to pick up and play. There is no movement grid or cover system, and heroes will automatically reposition to reach their targets. Playing abilities is as simple as selecting an ability card from your hand, selecting the target enemy or area, and that’s it – There goes Captain America sprinting across the battlefield to knock out a Hydra goon! After mastering the basic rules, combat can also be surprisingly deep and complex. There are so many factors which adjust the tactical puzzle on every mission, turn, and action. What abilities do I have in my hand? What heroes are on this mission, and how do their abilities interact?Which enemies are the biggest threats? Are there dangerous villains to handle?Should I spend my Heroism on a Heroic ability, or utilize the environment? Can I use Knockback abilities and the terrain to maximize damage output? And if that isn’t enough, we also have eight difficulty options for you to pit your tactical brilliance against. Are you just looking to get a great supernatural Marvel story? Pick the Story difficulty. But if you’re looking to agonize over every single decision? Ultimate III will be the way to go. I can’t wait to see how you solve the tactical combat puzzle once Marvel’s Midnight Suns is out on PlayStation 5 on December 2, 2022! View the full article
