  1. Discover The Creators is a PlayStation Store curation program in which we’ve asked some of the biggest names in the biz to pick their favorite PS4 games in order to help your find your next game to play. From VR experiences that literally give you wings (or a cowl to don) to bold franchise renovations that aren’t afraid to get dark and dirty, this list of titles taps into different areas of adventure, intrigue, and familiarity. Movies are great, but games are interactive — and that’s the powerful distinction of the list below. Each of these puts us in fantastic and surreal situation where we must make choices that both tell us who we really are and potentially who we want to be. Browse Cliff Bleszinski’s full list at PlayStation Store Batman: Arkham VR Half of virtual reality is the gameplay, but for VR the overall “experience” is often what sells it. In the Arkham games I thought I felt like Batman, but it wasn’t until I fired up my PS VR and looked in the mirror and saw Batman looking back at me. Perfect length, gorgeous to look at, and VR controls done right. Far Cry 4 Ubisoft knows their “formula” — explore the world, find a tower, control area, repeat — but they’ve honed it to such a fantastic state in this title. The co-op alone is worth the price of admission, flying a gyrocopter while my wife fires grenades down below on fleeing livestock was comedy gold. BioShock: The Collection No one knows how to merge first-person shooting, narrative, and RPG elements quite like Ken Levine. The BioShock series is a masterclass in this, topical without being overly political, haunting, and beautiful all at the same time. Horizon Zero Dawn The game took years, and it shows. It oozes quality from every blade of grass to every robot that you hunt — or hunts you. Even if the gameplay wasn’t stellar (it is), the atmosphere and setup of the world itself — a pseudo-viking world of humans hunting robotic animals — is second to none. Resident Evil 7 Resident Evil 7 is a massive shift back to what makes the series great, in an amazing Southern Gothic setting. Perfect blend of hunt or be hunted gameplay, fearful moments coupled with empowering ones, and claustrophobic environments in which you can almost smell the mold and mildew. The Talos Principle Who’d have thought the folks at Croteam, known for their bombastic Serious Sam series would be able to craft such a compelling first-person puzzler? A perfect difficulty ramp through and through that oozes mystery. Eagle Flight I’ve had the dream of flying like an eagle ever since the age of six, and the first time I tried this game I was moved to tears. Sometimes the best solutions to game controls is to go with the most simple; the team that cracked this formula has gained mountains of respect from me. Look in a direction and fly in that direction, tilt your head to turn, and explore post-apocalyptic Paris at your leisure before hopping into multiplayer. 5. Hi folks, it’s Tom with Team Ninja again. As we celebrate the release of our final DLC today, I just wanted to provide some insight and inspiration into why we chose to finish our campaign with Bloodshed’s End. As our dedicated players have come to experience the bloody Sengoku period through the eyes and heart of William, we wanted to conclude his adventure with an ending that is deserving of this incredibly awe-inspiring time in history. We chose the Osaka summer battle as the most fitting stage to close out our campaign and lead us to the end of the Sengoku era. In the battle of the Osaka summer campaign, brave men fought and died for causes such as loyalty, honor and justice. For the Toyotomi clan, this final battle was quite literally a life or death struggle for them. Look closely at the famed Toyotomi Hideyoshi’s armor that was once the symbol of his might and glory. There’s a lot of meaning behind those details. We put a lot of effort into depicting this sense of valor as well as the violence and brutality of war throughout our new stage and character designs. In addition, our latest guardian spirit is Janomecho which will finally become available for everyone to employ. As many of you know, William has had a storied history with Janomecho’s masters – Otani Yoshitsugu and his son in law, Sanada Yukimura. How will he acquire the guardian spirit Janomecho in Bloodshed’s End? William also returned to Japan because of a vision he had about Hattori Hanzo. But according to history, Hanzo was supposed to have died in the summer campaign. What will be the fate of his loyal friend Hanzo who helped shape history from the shadows? Well, there’s only one way to find out… Fight and survive the experience of Bloodshed’s End! Believe me, you don’t want to miss out on witnessing the fates of these larger than life historical figures. Speaking of historical figures, we want you to pay special attention to Yodogimi who we chose to feature in our key art. There’s a lot of depth to her portrayal as we consider Yodogimi to be the embodiment of the great tragedy and cruelty that is the Sengoku era. Besides the incredible DLC, let’s talk briefly about The Abyss which we highlighted in our previous blog but it’s worth mentioning again here. The deepest level of The Abyss is without question, the most challenging aspect of this entire game. In fact, in The Abyss you can summon up to two visitors to have a three person co-op which should tell you something about its difficulty level. Even our director, Fumihiko Yasuda tells me that he will need the help of players online to get through this mode. That’s saying a lot because I can tell you that our director is a pretty stellar player! Last but not least, we have a special treat for many of our loyal Ninja Gaiden fans in Bloodshed’s End. I won’t completely spoil the surprise at this time, but you will be provided with a memorable award for your hard earned achievement. That’s all I will say. Finally, let me just thank everyone for their amazing support and dedication for our game. It’s been an amazing ride for all of us. As we end our journey with Bloodshed’s End this month, I wanted to leave you with a personal message from our director Yasuda-san, which accurately expresses the sentiments of our entire Nioh team. So I bid you farewell for now samurai and hope to see you again in future battlegrounds. Cheers! “When the scene after William’s final battle was completed, there was a huge sense of loss and I was very sentimental. That’s because for years, William was always there on our monitors traversing Sengoku Japan, fighting Yokai after another… and I felt I would no longer see that again. Nioh’s development happened during difficult times for Team Ninja. So while it was a tremendous challenge, it also came with unimaginable joy and sorrow. This may sound dramatic but as I see William, who dies again and again, only to come back stronger and continue to take on tougher foes. In this vision, I see the new embodiment of Team NINJA as well. While I am starting to think about the future, at this very moment I only wish for our players to take delight in the final chapter of William’s tale.” – Fumihiko Yasuda View the full article

  7. News incoming, pilots! The time has come for even more of you to gear up, lock on and join in our ultimate first-person spaceship shooter. We here at the CCP Newcastle studio are thrilled to announce that EVE: Valkyrie – Warzone is available today, meaning that intense cross-reality space dogfighting is happening right now! Fearsome and distinctive spaceships, fresh and fearless new pilots — we reckon that’s going to be an amazing combo and we can’t wait to see you in action. Launch into the Warzone EVE: Valkyrie was born in virtual reality and is now reborn for everyone. Originally, Valkyrie pilots were required to access the game with VR equipment only, but the new Warzone expansion opens up the world of the Valkyrie to all PlayStation 4 and PC players, with no VR requirement. For those who are new to EVE: Valkyrie, purchasing EVE: Valkyrie – Warzone includes all the content that has already been created and released over the past 18 months. This includes all five of the EVE: Valkyrie updates (Carrier Assault, Joint Strike, Gatecrash, Wormholes and Groundrush) and of course, the Warzone expansion. This puts the impressive new roster of next-generation ships, the variety of exciting maps, and multiple game modes firmly in the grasp of all veteran and prospective spaceship combat enthusiasts! With the introduction of Warzone, it’s a great time for all pilots to get involved. For those of you who are new to Valkyrie, you’d better suit up and get some hours in darting between the frozen asteroids and navigating treacherous subterranean tunnels. Life in New Eden rarely stands still. Next free update already in development As if all of that wasn’t enough to whet a space pirate’s appetite, we are already hard at work creating more amazing features. We want to continue providing fresh, high-quality content for EVE: Valkyrie regularly, and that means the Warzone expansion is us just getting started. So, what does that mean for you? Coming hot on the heels of the expansion, there will be another free update for EVE: Valkyrie – Warzone due to hit this winter. In the next free update we’ll be including Custom Matches which will allow you to set up your own game lobbies and private rooms, picking from a range of options to create your very own Warzones! No game update would be complete without a new battleground to compete in, and we’ve got an incredible new map in development right now. This new location in the New Eden universe will once again push our unique space combat gameplay in some new and interesting directions. We’ll have more to share on that soon. Spaceship DNA At CCP Games, we have been creating and bringing spaceships of all shapes and sizes to life for 15 years. Everything from Drones, Carriers and mining Frigates to Battleships, Dreadnaughts and Titans, we’ve built it all! Designing awesome-looking space vessels along with all the weaponry, modifications and technological features that excite and inspire players is in our DNA. We take pride in constantly improving how we imbue our creations with diversity, unique roles, purpose and identity. We believe that this experience and expertise will be evident in the lovingly-crafted, battle-tested spaceships that the Warzone expansion provides. If you want to fly those ships in online competitive multiplayer, and do battle across the gritty-but-glorious celestial arenas of EVE: Valkyrie, then you can be sure you’ve come to the right place. Welcome to the Warzone, pilots. We look forward to seeing you out there in your shiny new customized ships, demonstrating your hard-earned skills. Lock and load! View the full article

  11. Hi guys! Brett from AnimEVO here on behalf of Bandai Namco. With all the excitement surrounding Gundam Versus for the PS4, we wanted to let people know about the history behind this franchise. A breathtaking game in and of its own, much of the excitement with Gundam Versus’ upcoming US release revolves around its role as the newest in a long running arcade franchise dating back to 2001. So, let’s take a brief look at the history of the Gundam VS series. Mobile Suit Gundam: Federation vs. Zeon Developed by Capcom and published by Bandai, Mobile Suit Gundam: Federation vs. Zeon was first released in arcades in 2001, and established many mechanics that would define the VS series, such as 2-on-2 gameplay, a cost system, and the boost gauge. Federation vs Zeon Deluxe (DX) would soon follow, along with a PS2 console port both in Japan as well as in the US. Mobile Suit Gundam: Gundam vs Zeta Gundam While the sequel, Mobile Suit Gundam: AEUG vs Titans (2003) would eventually receive a console port for Japan and the US in the form of Mobile Suit Gundam: Gundam vs Zeta Gundam in 2005, it would be the last Western release for many years, forcing fans of the series to import each game in order to keep up. Mobile Suit Gundam: Extreme VS Arcade and PS2 console releases continued for 5 years with additions such as Mobile Suit Gundam SEED: Rengou vs ZAFT, and Gundam vs Gundam, slowly refining and innovating mechanics leading up to Mobile Suit Gundam: Extreme VS for arcades in 2010. Extreme VS pushed the game forward from a competitive angle, introducing monthly balance patches and Live Replay monitors. It quickly rose to be one of the most popular arcades games at the time. Download full-res Download full-res Download full-res When PS3 launched in 2011, it introduced competitive online play for the first time with a ranking system and player lobbies. While still inaccessible outside of importing, this release would introduce access to that core competitive experience, and alongside its popularity in Japan, brought an influx of new players to the West. If the first era for Gundam VS fans in the US was a fringe group regulated to those PS2 imports, Extreme VS ushered in a second era introducing competitive play at the forefront. With it’s newfound audience, the first push for a tournament scene was created, which attracted players from other competitive games. Gundam Versus The English release of Gundam Versus marks the first major localization in over a decade, and with improved online play, new mechanics, and veteran players armed with resources, the series is more ready than ever to open the flood gates to new players. So what are you waiting for? Jump in and pilot your favorite mobile suit against your rivals and friends! Plus, if you preorder now you’ll get access to the exclusive preorder bonus Hot Scramble mobile suit + two additional mobile suits that will be featured as DLC down the road. Bandai also has provided fans with a digital preorder bonus, which includes an exclusive theme of the awesome four key art vote pieces + the mobile suits mentioned above. As we approach the US release, one can’t help but be excited for what will surely become a new era for Gundam in the West. Check out this exclusive character trailer for mobile suits in the Victory series and we’ll see you online when Gundam Versus launches September 29th! View the full article

By picking up Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite on PlayStation 4, you’ll be able to get the exclusive Major Carol Danvers costume to fly into the battle with, just as series newcomer Captain Marvel did in her past. When accomplished Air Force pilot Carol Danvers was caught in the explosion of an alien device, she was imbued with superhuman powers. As an Avenger, she used her gifts to protect the planet. Now she is a member of the resistance, joining in the fight against Ultron Sigma — the ultimate threat in this newly-formed universe. Captain Marvel’s moveset focuses on her super strength and energy projection powers. Due to her fighting prowess in the air, you’ll want to pair her with characters who have good ground control or trap options. With 29 other characters and more to come, we can’t wait to see who you pick as her teammate! In addition to the plethora of available teams, you’ll also make your choice of which of the six Infinity Stones you’d like to harness in battle: Power, Time, Space, Reality, Mind, or Soul. Each Stone comes with its own unique powers which can alter the battle entirely. It’s up to you to discover which Stone works best for your team and your specific playstyle. The Standard Edition of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite is available both physically and digitally for $59.99 ($79.99 CAD). The Deluxe Edition is available for $89.99 ($119.99 CAD) and includes the main game, along with six DLC characters releasing in 2017, including Sigma and Black Panther. The epic clash has begun. Join the battle now! View the full article
  13. Agent, you’ve been hard at work saving the world, and you really deserve a vacation. So we’re going to to give you one. On October 24, you will be able to download a new update to I Expect You To Die (IEYTD) entitled First Class. New and existing players will travel in a first class train cabin on an all-expenses-paid vacation across India. What do I mean by “all-expenses-paid?” The level is free, of course! Sit back, relax, and… well, try not to die. The response to IEYTD has been overwhelmingly positive. We have seen many excellent reviews of the game, but some reviewers mention how four levels doesn’t feel like enough content. We understand this issue is the game’s biggest weakness, and frankly, we feel like it’s a good problem to have. In the end, however, we knew we had to address it. In mid-April 2017, we started by putting together a small group, some from the original team and some new members, and we set out to make a new level. Narrowing down our ideas from the initial brainstorms took some time. We wanted to find a setting that felt new and exciting, and allowed us to experiment with some interactions we didn’t get to try the first time around. Fast forward through four months and countless playtests and here we are, squashing the final bugs and getting builds ready for certification. The team is super excited to share this new level with you, but, you know the game — we can’t share too much without spoiling things. Just know that there’s nothing more relaxing than the click-clack of a train as it rolls lazily through the majestic mountains of Northern India. Enjoy a soothing beverage or a local delicacy as you read the morning paper. We believe trains are the best place to meet new friends and catch up with old ones. As a developer, I always want to create the best experience for the player. With an escape-the-room game, a well-designed experience comes from countless tweaks to the tools and puzzles presented to the player. Too easy and it’s no fun; too hard and it’s no fun. Walking that line is almost as treacherous as the scenarios in the game, so you’ll have to let me know how we did. Your videos, blogs, vlogs, and social media posts are awesome to see, so keep them coming! I also wanted to say how flattered we all are by the kind words players had to say about the theme song to the game. We loved making it. And maybe, while you’re enjoying your vacation, you’ll find some new music to listen to. Enjoy your trip, Agents. You’ve earned it. View the full article
  14. Monster Hunter: World brings you into a rich and intricate set of living, breathing ecosystems, and to prepare you for the wildest dangers of this new world, we introduce a robust home base of operations to supply your every need. Enter: Astera. Astera, the beating heart of the Research Commission, has everything a hunter needs: Guild representatives: these are your points of contact for every quest in the game. They’ll give you all the details on every quest, including any special instructions and potential hazards. Blacksmiths: as you take down foe after foe, you can bring raw materials, such as scales, claws, bones and minerals, to the blacksmiths and they’ll forge new weapons and armor to prepare you for the next hunt. Shopkeepers: in addition to picking the right weapon and armor set for the job, you’ll also need healing potions, traps and ammo. Talk to these folks on your way out to the field to replenish your toolset. Cantina: this is arguably the most important spot in Astera. As every good hunter knows, you should never hunt on an empty stomach, so head on over to the cantina and get a delicious meal before every quest to boost your stats! Research team: we wouldn’t be a “Research Commission” without one, and these fellows play a key role in Monster Hunter: World. As you saw in our latest trailer above, you have a pretty important job ahead of you, and you’ll be working alongside Astera researchers to get it done. What big operation is this? 15. We’re very excited to finally reveal that Chaos;Child, the acclaimed visual novel from MAGES and 5pb, will be coming to North America on October 24, 2017 for PS4 and PS Vita. We’ve also prepared a brand new trailer to show you what the world of Chaos;Child is all about. The New Generation Madness is sweeping Tokyo Part of the Science Adventure Series that spawned the wildly successful visual novel, STEINS;GATE, the haunting and grisly mystery tale of Chaos;Child tells the story of Takuru Miyashiro. After losing his parents in a tragic accident during an earthquake years ago, he’s now living with a foster family and trying to make his way through school. When a series of bizarre deaths take place in Shibuya, Takuru notices that the dates of the incidents match up with a series of murders that happened shortly before the fateful earthquake that changed his life years earlier. Using this information, he deduces the date of the next murder, goes to a potential murder scene and becomes a witness to a horrendous act of violence. Determined to get to the bottom of the New Generation Murders, Takuru, along with his classmates from the Newspaper club, becomes involved in a mysterious series of events that will put them all in mortal danger and irrevocably change Takuru’s life once again… Are you deluded? Chaos;Child introduces a brand new delusion system that allows the player to choose how the main character perceives the various situations that he encounters. Takuru sometimes struggles to tell the difference between reality and his imagination, because of this you will be faced with three choices – keep Takuru grounded in reality, experience a positive delusion or a negative delusion. Staying grounded in reality will have you experiencing the events as they actually unfold with no added ‘colour’, so to speak. Picking a positive delusion will allow Takuru to see a daydream that will often be comical or even sexual in nature. Takuru is a teenage boy after all! Picking a negative delusion on the other hand, will force Takuru to experience strange and often terrible nightmares with horrifying and gory results. The player’s choice in how to experience the game will alter how Takuru views the world, his fears, who he likes and who he trusts. This will ultimately change how the ending of the game plays out. The different endings in Chaos;Child focus on members of the supporting cast depending on who Takuru has bonded with throughout the game. They can vary from down to earth alternatives to the main narrative to crazy shenanigans that completely alter the outcome of the story. With multiple endings and a variety of ways events in the game can play out, Chaos;Child is a meaty visual novel experience that can keep players busy for 50-plus hours. View the full article
  16. I’m one half of the composing and sound designing duo at Plied Sound LLC in Chicago. Matt Joynt and I created the score and sound design for the folktale adventure Burly Men at Sea, out tomorrow on PS4 and PS Vita. When the team at Brain&Brain called and asked us to do the sound design for the game, they pitched us the crazy idea of doing the sound effects entirely with our voices; like a couple kids playing pirates in their back yard, or Michael Winslow in Police Academy. Matt and I chuckled and shook our heads silently to each other while confidently telling Brain&Brain that we’d be willing to try it. The next day we found ourselves in the studio, barking, squawking, gurgling, and spitting our way through levels. We quickly realized that not only was this weirdness working, but this was the best time we’d ever had in the studio. The world of Burly Men at Sea was coming alive, more immersive and more whimsical with every “PBBBBTH!” and “THWAAANG!” It worked so well, we even decided to work vocal sounds into the music, giving each mythical creature its own organic sound that illuminates its character. So, as you play through the game, every sound you hear besides the music, is entirely made by our mouths (technically there were occasional flicks of cheeks or smacks with hands), and a few basic audio effects (reverb, delay, pitch shifting). As you play through, make sure to notice a couple of our favorite sounds: Matt is a coffee connoisseur and completely nailed the espresso machine sound. Also the whale epiglottis opening and closing sounds are probably more realistic than they need to be. We’re so excited for people to play Burly Men at Sea! Come for the adventure and stay for the shenanigans! Burly Men at Sea (Original Soundtrack) by Plied Sound Burly Men at Sea’s soundtrack is also available tomorrow on PSN, both standalone and bundled with the game. To hear more about Plied Sound’s work on the game, check out their interview with NPR’s Music Respawn! show. View the full article

  19. Here we are! Just a few weeks away from the release of Raid: World War II. The Lion game Lion crew and I are busy working away on the final elements of the game before we ship! Some years ago I had a sitdown with my former boss, Bo. I wanted to talk to him about Project Tokyo – a game set during World War II, with the DNA of Payday. He asked: “What the hell is Project Tokyo?”, and I said: “It’s a co-op FPS during World War II. Four guys cause mayhem, kill Nazis, steal their gold, all while being tongue-in-cheek with a dark twist. We got funded, made the game and it’s soon going to be released! A nerve-wracking time right now for sure. About that DNA. I know some might compare the two games – Raid and Payday. This is of course fair to do. Having worked on Payday: The Heist and Payday 2 as the lead level designer, I know how to make a good co-op heist game. But the DNA is only the foundation. I’d state that even though the DNA is the same, we’ve changed the heart, blood and brain. There’s huge things as well as smaller details that separate the two games. This isn’t just Payday 2 during WWII. It’s Raid. What we did was that we looked at Payday and saw what features worked. But also which ones we lacked. So we added stuff like a “War Cry” feature and Challenge Cards that’ll make the gameplay more dynamic. We also wanted to give the players a real “home” to come back to, so we made a Camp for the player that’ll expand and update as you complete Raids. Finally, we have what we call Operations — these create a more story-driven game flow where you raid but with lore on top. These will help us create a nice place to continue the narrative. I am a WW2 buff, and so is my brother Niki and our writer Tid. So after we got funded, we started shaping the game together to what we felt we missed in WWII-themed games. We didn’t want to focus on big battles. Many other games seem to look at Saving Private Ryan type movies as inspiration, but both Tid and I prefer movies like Kelly’s Heroes. More focus on the smaller teams with relatable characters and stories that you can go deeper into. Stories that can expand on not often gamified stories of World War II. Like greed, for example! Greed was a thing during WWII! So the question of who is good and who is bad became important for me and the rest of the team. Of course, it’s understood that Nazis are bad. But when it came to the story we wanted to tell, and our four main characters, we wanted it to be about a group of not-quite clean-cut traditional square-jawed commandos fighting the good fight. Sure, these guys are trying to take down the Nazis, but that won’t stop them from pursuing personal gain either. Another aspect that differs from Payday is the fact that Raid is set in a much more analog world — I wanted to work with this a lot. Raid has elements like lockpicking, bombs and dynamite might not always go off exactly when they’re supposed to, and not everything goes according to plan, so this goes for raids in-game too. You’ll have to ad-lib and make use of what you got, and there’s not a guy telling you what to do through your earpiece. Finally, I’d like to mention the history part of Raid. Tid is a real WWII nerd. What he doesn’t know isn’t worth knowing. But our goal is to entertain, not to educate. We wanted to provide players with the full WWII experience where you get access to mindblowing weapons, how they were modded, and vehicles created during the era. As we said in the office: we’ve done the research, now we’re twisting it to create the fantasy. Basically, Raid is the game I wanted to create and play myself. It’s Kelly’s Heroes! It’s about that interesting moral grey area and it stems from a game that was a success due to amazing gameplay. In just a few weeks everyone can play it. Some might love it, others might hate it. The main thing I’d like is for you to have fun while playing it. Let’s find out. View the full article
  20. Ghost Recon Wildlands pits you against an entire country’s worth of cartel goons and corrupt security forces, and now there’s a new challenge on the horizon: other players. Ghost War, a new PvP mode coming in a free update for Ghost Recon Wildlands later this fall, pits two four-person fireteams against each other across new, cover-filled maps. And starting September 21, you can get an early taste of the action by joining the open beta, available to all PS Plus subscribers whether they own Ghost Recon Wildlands or not. Running from 3 AM Pacific on September 21 through 3 AM Pacific on September 25 (with pre-loading beginning at midnight on September 19), the standalone open beta on PS4 features two maps and six available character classes (out of a total 12), and is a perfect opportunity to familiarize yourself with the sound markers, suppression mechanics, and other new features Ghost War introduces to encourage stealth and tactical team play. The Ghost War beta takes place across five distinct maps. The six character classes – Pointman, Tank, Scout, Artillery, Enforcer, and Sniper – each fit into one of three different categories: Assault, Support, or Marksman. To give you an edge when the beta begins, here’s an overview of the class categories and an in-depth look at some specific map tactics from the developers themselves. Assault: Assault classes are frontline attackers, boasting abilities that promote aggressive gameplay. They can engage the enemy effectively from medium to long range, and their main goal is hunting them down and securing areas. Either “guns-blazing” or stealthy approaches are viable Assault class strategies. Support: Equipped with drones, the Support classes provide teammates with intel on enemy position and movement. They are equipped for medium- to short-range combat, so a more cautious approach is recommended. They can provide cover fire or keep an eye out for flanking enemies. Marksman: While some classes in this category are more versatile in terms of combat tactics, marksmen focus on long-range combat and enemy suppression. High ground or spots with a clear view over the battlefield give marksmen an advantage over other classes. Most of them are at a disadvantage at short range, so they should stay in cover while maneuvering to strategic positions. Now let’s see how you can put these skill sets to work. We asked the Ghost Recon Wildlands developers for some map-specific tips to help you hit the ground running (or cautiously advancing from cover to cover, as the case may be). Here’s a strategic look at two of the five maps in the open beta, Deforestation and Desert Outpost. Deforestation Fighting at a sawmill means that trees are going to be your primary source of cover, whether it’s the piles of logs in the open central area or the dense tree stands that circle the perimeter. The north and south spawn points (marked by the arrows) both offer access to flanking routes and sniper positions, and the asymmetrical design of the map makes it even more crucial to know the lay of the land. For example, marksmen from the southern spawn might swing around to the west to set up shop amidst the trees (the large green circle pictured below), but they’ll have to be conscious that marksmen from the northern spawn have a shorter, more direct route to a tree-lined ridge (the wide green oval) and might be scouting for their approach. If you stray too far from your teammates in hopes of getting the perfect shot, it may be difficult for them to revive you if you are downed. Revives are a powerful way to reclaim the advantage in the no-respawn matches of Ghost War, so consider positioning support players in the two smaller green circles where they can quickly reposition for a revive if needed. These circles also provide strong positions from which to spot the enemy’s advances and root out counter-snipers with your surveillance drone, as well as providing good sight lines for suppressing fire. Suppression really does a number on enemies in Ghost War and can be crucial for supporting a flanking run. The roads are the fastest routes, but minimal cover makes them risky. If you can suppress an enemy position while your assault teammate makes a run, you can shift the battlefield in your favor. Just be sure to lay any traps you have in nearby doorways or near obvious cover emplacements, because your enemies will be trying to outflank you as well. Desert Outpost The rocky scrubland of Desert is a bit stingy with natural cover, so players will have to take advantage of rocks and small terrain height variation to remain undetected. If an enemy drone is airborne, it’s best to move as little as possible, and even better to be near some of the larger rocks or shrubbery. Drones operate on a cooldown timer, so once it goes away, that’s your chance to move up. The two southernmost green zones indicate rocky areas where players moving up from the southern spawn point through the open terrain can seek cover. Standing tall on either side of the map are two sniper towers indicated by the two similar green circles on the east and west sides of the map. The western tower is the more exposed of the two, so the trick here is to stay at the bottom of the tower and shoot from behind the supports. This is the more exposed of the two towers, so don’t hesitate to take cover in the nearby diner if an enemy identifies your position. Climbing up to the eastern tower is risky as well, given the long sight lines to the southern spawn. Get there fast and then lay traps in case an enemy is bold enough to climb up after you. If you spawn in the south, you can get quicker access to the closer of buildings which can be a great place to work a support/assault duo. From the northern spawn, you can speedily reach the large rock indicated by the large central green circle, which provides great visibility for calling out enemy positions to your teammates. The smaller circle just to the north provides a more sheltered view if enemy marksmen already have the big rock sighted in. As the fight wears on, visiting one of the restock points indicated by the health/ammo icons can give you a crucial boost, but you’ll want to have a teammate covering you because the enemy is sure to be watching. The full version of Ghost War will arrive later this fall as a free update for all Ghost Recon Wildlands players. To get an early look at Ghost War ahead of the open beta, tune in to the Ghost War Premiere on twitch.tv/ubisoft at 9 AM Pacific on September 19. The event kicks off with a four-hour pre-show event with special guests, starting at 5 AM Pacific, and a rebroadcast of the full program (including the pre-show) is scheduled for 11:30 AM Pacific. 21. Ever since 2008’s Call of Duty: World at War, I’ve hugely appreciated the Zombies co-op mode that has evolved into a series staple. With Sledgehammer Games taking the reins for COD: WWII, I’ve been dying to learn how this talented studio will innovate on one of the most popular cooperative shooters in history. This is an especially important question since some of Sledgehammer’s founding members were responsible for the horror classic Dead Space! So we tossed a batch of questions at COD: WWII’s Zombies lead Jon Horsley, senior director at Sledgehammer Games, to learn what the studio is up to. Read on to get the first nitty-gritty details on COD: WWII’s Zombies mode, straight from Sledgehammer. PlayStation.Blog: Call of Duty Zombies has always been about four-player cooperative, wave-based combat. Just to set expectations, can we expect the same basic premise behind Call of Duty: WWII Nazi Zombies? Jon Horsley: Yes, the mode is focused on exciting four-player cooperative combat against waves of increasingly deadly zombies. Call of Duty WWII’s Zombies mode is grounded in a gritty, horrifying setting based on World War II, and we take things to terrifying new levels. The approach is, of course, rooted in [the studio’s] horror background, so it was a lot of fun to develop this new experience. Our goal was to make this the most terrifying Zombies experience we’ve ever created… PSB: In the trailer, we see a clock tower, sewers, and laboratory. Will players explore the three of these levels? JH: Zombies will take place in a quiet Bavarian village in Germany in the later years of WWII. Players will be transported to a horrifying corner of the town, where bloody sewers, evil laboratories, and ancient tombs will reveal their dark secrets. It’s an immersive thrill ride, and developing the canvas and the environment the player is immersed in was a fun challenge for our team. “Interestingly, these zombies retain some of the discipline and purpose of the soldiers they once were.” PSB: The trailer hints at different types of zombies. How far is Sledgehammer going in this direction? JH:In our story, the Third Reich has built an army of the dead in a last-ditch attempt to save the war effort. Interestingly, these zombies retain some of the discipline and purpose of the soldiers they once were. Each zombie type fills a specialized role as well: there are flaming zombies and running zombies, for example, and they will give you serious problems if you get cornered. It will take a ton of strategy and teamwork to survive the varied undead soldiers in this mode. Teamwork, communication, and a level head will be key! PSB: The trailer showed a saw blade, which got us thinking… can players use the environment to their advantage? JH:There are a variety of structures built by the enemy to subdue and constrain the undead. A resourceful player can turn the tables and use their engines of death against them. And saw blades are just the beginning; there are numerous ways to trap and kill your enemies. The environment can be a great ally if you know how to leverage it… PSB: Previous Call of Duty Zombie modes have offered experiences for both hardcore and casual fans. How are you looking to challenge players here? JH:We introduce and guide new players, but also cater to the hardcore Zombie fans as well. We’re offering new challenges and additional layers of gameplay. For players looking below the surface, there will be many secrets and rewards to uncover — beyond what they’d expect, actually. There will be no guide on that journey. Hardcore players will need to find their own path, their own way. Good luck! PSB: The announcement trailer showed a cage. What’s in it? JH:That cage contains a special machine constructed by the Nazis, and it’s designed to make their weapons deadlier. But there is something else there which players will need to discover for themselves. PSB: How will players upgrade their weapons? JH:Players can upgrade their weapons in a variety of ways, one of which is via the special machine hidden in the level. There are other ways, too, but it’s too early to get into all that fun stuff…. PSB: Will Perks make an appearance here? JH:We’ll provide rewards and upgrades to players, some of which will be temporary and others permanent. Players will recognize these upgrades, but they’ll be presented in a new and interesting way that makes them feel like part of this terrifying world. PSB: Has the Mystery Box evolved? What about the Monkey Bomb? We have so many questions… JH:You’ll have to wait until November to find out. Though there are hints in the trailer for those with keen eyes… View the full article

  23. With the launch of Gran Turismo Sport just around the corner on October 17, there’s a lot of exciting information to share about the new game. We wanted to provide a roundup of some of the announcements that you may have missed, as well as some new details for the dedicated among you. GT Sport is built from the ground up to provide race fans with something different, whether you’re a Gran Turismo first timer or one of our veterans from the last 20 years of titles. So buckle up as we detail eight things you need to know about Gran Turismo Sport. Prepare to Race with Campaign Mode Campaign Mode gives players the chance to improve driving skills across four different categories and tutorial videos. Each of these modes play a key role in making every driver better prepared for racing against others. Driving School teaches drivers everything from basic operations to advanced racing techniques to help make everyone an expert behind the wheel. Mission Challenge provides various dramatic racing situations for players to overcome. Each mission has a “friend-ranking” leaderboard to encourage drivers to challenge their friends. Circuit Experience lets you learn how to drive the most challenging sections of the world’s great race tracks, sector by sector, apex by apex, until you’ve mastered them. In Racing Etiquettes players learn signals, flags, and safety car protocols to ensure fair and respectful race conditions for all. As you naturally increase your skill level, you will be awarded with a multitude of vehicles in various race groups, as well as in-game currency to allow you to further expand your dream garage. Keeping Things Fair — Staying Connected This year’s Gran Turismo includes a world first — the only video game with an online Championship endorsed by the world’s motoring governing body, the FIA. As a competition endorsed by the same organization that oversees some of the biggest races in the world we’re taking racing integrity very seriously for the FIA GT Championship. In order to ensure fair racing for all, GT Sport will require an internet connection for the majority of functionality. This connectivity requirement is to ensure that progress, car availability, and driver ratings are properly maintained at all times. PlayStation Plus will only be needed for online multiplayer. Portions of the Arcade Mode, including limited two-player split screen, single-player races on select tracks, and time trials can still be played in an offline environment. Always Race an Equal — Advanced Matchmaking There’s nothing worse than taking to the track and finding yourself pulling up alongside the next racing superstar in your first race. The matchmaking system in GT Sport has been tuned to ensure that racers of similar abilities are pitted against each other. So, when you start off fresh, you’ll be placed against drivers of similar ability. As you build up time on the track, you’ll be rematched accordingly. For those that are curious, the matchmaking is based on three key metrics: Driver Level — Your driver level increases with XP gained in races. Sportsmanship Rating (“Sport Mode”) — Just like in real world driving, we want to reward those that drive, and race, clean. So stick to the track, and limit the number of collisions to secure a positive sportsmanship rating. Driver Rating (“Sport Mode”) — Starting on E, you can build towards achieving the coveted “S” rating — but watch out, a bad sportsmanship rating will limit your ability to progress. Set It Up Your Way — Car Customization Want to set up your vehicle for road, dirt, or drift? The Car Settings within your Garage allow you to change your tires, brake bias, suspension, aerodynamics, drivetrain, transmission, and power to weight ratio — basically anything you’d want to tune, you can! That’s not the only way you can customize your ride, though. In GT Sport, every mile driven means extra rewards for you; with Mileage Exchange, you can trade in-game miles for a host of customization options for your driver avatar and vehicles within your Garage. You’ll still use the in-game credits earned from racing (or pre-ordering) to purchase cars. Scapes Pushes the Boundaries of Tech and Innovations in Photography This is not your traditional photo mode. The Scapes feature in GT Sport is a new format of photography developed from a True HDR workflow and physics-based rendering technologies. Basically, each photo location contains all the light energy information of that scene, which means your favorite car can realistically be placed in hundreds of real world locations. Take a look at the below to see what we mean. Drive on Your Own Terms With powerful AI-assisted systems, even the most novice driver can get the most out of driving some of the most sought-after cars in the world! The high-level driving aids can help with everything from steering, to throttle control, to braking. For the more seasoned drivers, fear not — all aids can be switched off, allowing you to race for real. Online racing will feature a mix of assisted and unassisted racing, so there will be something for all levels when you take your race experience to the world. Up Close and Personal with PlayStation VR Want a new perspective on GT? Grab your PS VR and get ready to experience Gran Turismo Sport in the most immersive way possible. VR gameplay is featured within the game’s Arcade Mode. Here you’ll be able to go head to head (1:1) against another AI opponent in more than 135 cars on 27 new and classic tracks that will take you from the Japanese metropolis to the American countryside. A New Generation of Fidelity and Realism In preparation for GT Sport, and designed to make the most of the power of PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro, Polyphony Digital has developed brand new capturing equipment used in conjunction with HDR on supported displays to ensure that the cars are as beautifully recreated in the game as they are in real life. What does that actually mean? Well, that Ferrari and McLaren you’ve been racing before don’t actually look like that! The technology hasn’t existed to faithfully represent the Ferrari Red and McLaren Orange in a video game, so not only does the game look great, it’s now as faithful a recreation as you can get! That’s all for now, but not everything GT Sport has to offer. Be on the lookout for more insider information and videos from our GT Academy athletes as well as Kazunori Yamauchi through our GT Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram channels. View the full article
  24. The last time I played The Sims, I was in high school. That was unnervingly close to 20 years ago, and a lot has changed. But the heart of The Sims 4 remains the same: to build. To tell stories. To celebrate the eccentricities we all have. And to turn our whole world into a game. The Sims 4 continues that long tradition on PS4, and it does so with surprising aplomb. Almost everything from the PC version appears on PS4. That includes years of DLC, updates, and ghosts. Sim ghosts, but still impressive! For those looking for a content-rich, feature-complete experience, this is it. New to The Sims? Come prepared to make choices. The Sims 4 encourages experimentation and procrastination in equal measure. Spend hours creating a whole family in game, or building a dream home brick by brick. Micro-manage every bathroom break and block party, or focus on building a career. Make friends, find love, have children, and watch them grow. Everything is on the table. To navigate The Sims 4, the touchpad acts as the player’s liaison between the game world and the all-encompassing UI. It’s rare to see the touchpad serve so vital a role, but it works here. Interact with your Sims and the world around them, then switch to the menus to ricochet between Sim stats, relationship meters, items, and much more. During my brief time with The Sims 4, I bought a house, hosted an impromptu party (They just showed up by themselves, I swear!), started a career as a computer programmer (first task: play video games), and finally, played video games. An eventful day by any measure, and a small sample of the seemingly endless moments that make up everyday life in The Sims. Somehow, The Sims 4 manages to feel like a character creator, relationship manager, town builder, and architectural software, all rolled into one — with no specific end goal or ultimate victory to achieve. Yet it is still a videogame, and — as we discovered above — playing these video games is the first step to starting life as a world-class computer programmer. The Sims 4 launches November 17 on PS4. 25. That’s what I tell anyone who asks me what PlayLink is. Alternatively, it’s a variety of PS4 games designed to be played with your friends using your mobile device as the controller. Download the respective apps, and voila! Everyone has a controller and we can all have fun on PS4. Whether you’re a fan of gritty crime thrillers or rapid-fire quiz games, there’s a game here for everyone. We love our friends, we love our phones, and we certainly love PS4… PlayLink games bring all that goodness together. But don’t take my word for it, try it out yourself. We believe in PlayLink so much we are letting all our PlayStation Plus members try That’s You! for free. That’s You! Have a party with your friends taking selfies, answering funny questions about each other, and play a variety of challenges involving drawing, writing, and photos. It’s a hilarious quiz game developed by Wish Studios with more than1000 varied questions. Answer “critical” questions like “Who’d enjoy the feeling of being handcuffed?” or “Who’d use a two-for-one coupon on a romantic date?”The more consensus there is among the group, the more points will be awarded. That’s not all, though — the Joker element may throw a wrench in someone’s way by unexpectedly awarding players who were confident enough in their answers with double the points. You’ll find out just how much you know about your friends and how they play! But that’s just one of the many PlayLink games that are coming your way. Check out the list below and start planning your PlayLink holiday party now! Hidden Agenda (Oct 24) In this gritty crime thriller that won Game Critics Awards’ Best Family/Social game at E3, and Best Casual Game at Gamescom, Hidden Agenda invites players to join homicide detective Becky Marney and district attorney Felicity Graves as they investigate the case of a serial killer known as “The Trapper.” Inspired by videos of gamers playing Until Dawn with their friends and family all shouting out choices, the talented team at Supermassive Games crafted Hidden Agenda with a focus on playing as a group. You and your friends will use your phones to vote on the tough decisions, determining the course of the investigation in this gripping narrative branching story. Remember, characters may live or die based on what your group decides. Trust plays a big role in Hidden Agenda’s story not just between the characters, but also between members of your group. Someone may receive a “Hidden Agenda” card on their phone (see what they did there?) which awards points for steering the story in a particular direction. Watch out if your friends are acting particularly sneaky or manipulative. Imagine it as a movie night but you all will be in control of how the story unfolds! Knowledge is Power (Oct 24) You like Trivia? We call this a “combative” trivia game, wrapped in a sparkling, shiny package. From Wish Studios (the same developers of That’s You!), we invite you to test your brainpower inside the Pyramid with more than 5000 questions as well as targeting on your rivals with “Power Plays.” Using your phone or tablet, freeze your opponents’ touch screen so they have to smash through the ice to get to the answer or slime their screens with green gloop so they have to wipe it clean to see the answers. It’s not how smart you are; it’s how dirty you play! SingStar Celebration (Oct 24) There’s a SingStar party over here… and everyone’s invited. The latest from our friends at London Studios, SingStar Celebration features 30 hit tracks from current to classic. Grab your smartphone, join your friends, and belt out the biggest hits and pumping party classics. Share your epic singing moments by uploading videos and photos to the SingStar community and social media. Check out the SingStore for hundreds of extra songs to purchase and add to your collection. If it’s your birthday, Christmas, New Year’s Eve, or even just a Saturday night — SingStar Celebration is the perfect playlist to any party. Frantics (March 13) Developed by NapNok Games, this is manic mini-game madness! Up to four players can join in on each challenge — bumping, bluffing, and backstabbing in quick succession. Explore a full range using your phone/tablet as an intuitive controller — shake, tilt, swipe, use the camera, and don’t be too surprised if the host — the wise-cracking Fox — calls you to offer bonus secret missions. Take your animal and go head-to-head with your friends for complete barnyard domination! View the full article
