  2. Final Fantasy VII Revelation, launching April 8, 2027 on PlayStation 5, marks the epic final chapter in the remake trilogy following Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. At Tokyo Game Show 2026, we had our first chance to play a hands-on demo of the PS5 title, featuring a combat-focused portion of the main story. In this demo, we explored the Whirlwind Maze and got the chance to test out combat with newly added playable characters Vincent and Cid, the new FITS System, and battle against Jenova Deathmourner. Exploring the Whirlwind Maze where black-robed figures linger Airship pilot Cid joins Cloud and the rest of the party at the beginning of the demo. With a group totaling eight members, you set off for the Whirlwind Maze where Sephiroth awaits. The terrain requires shimmying along cliff faces and vaulting over ledges with parkour traversal. An eerie atmosphere hangs over the field. Winds howl across the cliffs. Aurora-like ribbons of light illuminate the darkness. Black-robed figures linger along the path. Vincent: Fighting in two styles as human and beast In this game, Vincent and Cid join the party as playable characters, and both were available at the beginning of this hands-on session. Vincent fights using two distinct powers: gunplay and monster transformation. The versatile fighter unleashes ranged gunfire and fights up close in monster form. Landing consecutive standard firearm attacks causes Vincent’s unique abilities to evolve from Blood Moon to Execration and then Retribution, increasing in power relative to the hit count. There is no need to manually aim; simply firing with the Square button and executing abilities with the Triangle button makes battle feel satisfyingly effortless and snappy. Holding the R1 button transforms Vincent into a powerful monster. Moving swiftly on all fours like a beast, he can slash enemies with sharp claws. Holding the Triangle button while in monster form allows him to stagger enemies faster. Monster form is unlimited, but as time passes the Chaos level rises, reducing Vincent’s maximum HP. Switching between human and beast forms while reacting to enemy types make him a unique and versatile addition to the party. Cid: Dancing swiftly through the air with spear in hand As a spear wielder, Cid excels at airborne combat. Chaining standard attacks with the Square button and pressing the Square button again at the exact moment he becomes cloaked in a blue aura leads into derivative attacks like Dragon Spin, Hyper Dive, and Ground Pound. His long spear offers impressive reach, perfect for sweeping away groups of enemies. Pressing the Triangle button fires Target Spear, which can be charged by holding the button to launch up to five spears. Pinning enemies with spears empowers Cid’s abilities like Skydive and Burst Spiral, creating engaging tactical options. Unlocking unique abilities with the new FITS System The game introduces the FITS (Function-Integrated Tactical Suitwear), a new mechanic where choosing from four specialized FITS — Warrior, Knight, Black Mage, and Summoner — each unlocks different capabilities and abilities based on the equipped uniform. In this hands-on demo, Cloud started with the Summoner FITS equipped. Selecting FITS from the command menu during combat summons Ifrit, Shiva, Titan, and other powerful beings to fight alongside Cloud for a limited duration. Selecting FITS again while a summon is active unleashes the high-damage attack Pledge Roar. Using Pledge Roar drains HP, so this massive power comes with risk. Sephiroth himself appears toward the end of the demo, leading into a fight against Jenova Death. Debuting in the original Final Fantasy VII, the creature returns here with a sinister redesign featuring an unsettling spiky body. Jenova Death rains down wide-area Fire attacks, including fireballs and scorching gusts. Dodge or guard these attacks or risk severe damage to the party. Midway through the battle, Jenova Death’s tentacles sprout and shield the main body from damage until you destroy each one. As the battle continues the tentacles begin spewing fire like flamethrowers. In our session, combining Synergy Abilities and Limit Breaks finally brings down the colossal Jenova Death. From the distinct fighting styles of Vincent and Cid to the new FITS System and intense boss encounters, this hands-on session offered a great look at what makes this third entry unique. Finish the adventure when Final Fantasy VII Revelation launches on PS5 April 8, 2027. View the full article

  4. Currently in development for release in 2027, Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance is a massive expansion that adds new storyline, areas, monsters, actions, and Master Rank to the game. At the PlayStation booth during Tokyo Game Show 2026, we got the very first opportunity to play a hands-on demo of the title. This demo offered three quest types featuring Chatacabra, the boss variant of new monster Araketa, and Elder Dragon Teostra. Here is what we learned from experiencing the new Boost Action mechanics firsthand and hunting Araketa in the new Skybound Eyrie area. Experiencing Boost Action, the new feature evolving the hunt even further Added in Ascendance, Boost Action is a new mechanic that unleashes weapon specific attacks and empowers certain weapon actions for a limited duration by activating the Boost Bracer. What stood out during this demo was how seamlessly Boost Action integrates with existing moves to sustain continuous attacks. Because Boost triggering actions can be activated mid combo or right when you are exposed after finishing an attack, you can instantly press the offensive without breaking momentum. The Boost gauge fills gradually over time and with every strike landed. Crucially, destroying wounds with Focus Strike while in the Boost state recharges the draining gauge, enabling high-level tactics such as shattering a wound just before Boost wears off to keep the momentum going. Armed with the Sword and Shield, the Boost activation move delivered lightning fast mobility while slashing through monsters. Closing the gap on distant targets to dive inside their guard and unleash devastating boosted combos feels exhilarating. Triggering it up close pivots you instantly around to their flank, doubling as a brilliant dodge mechanic. Taking on the Araketa pack in the new Skybound Eyrie area Next, we jumped into a quest to hunt the boss variant of the new monster Araketa in the breathtaking Skybound Eyrie. While traversing this realm dotted with floating islands, mounting your Seikret lets you catch updrafts, rocket skyward, and seamlessly glide between floating landmasses. Towering ruins loomed in the distance against a crystal-clear blue sky, creating an awe-inspiring backdrop. The target monster Araketa hunts in packs, and without Slinger Dung Bombs to scatter them on this run, we were forced to clash with multiple beasts at once. Araketa inflates its wings with air to blast hunters back or rocket forward in heavy charge attacks. Watch those wings closely, as a massive swell signals an incoming strike. What truly stole the show was the terrifying coordination between the boss variant and its pack. The alpha barks commands to send pack members pouncing in rapid succession, culminating in a signature ultimate move where the entire pack leaps into the heavens before diving straight down in a synchronized, high speed charge. Throwing up a hasty Great Sword guard was nowhere near enough, sending us hurtling through the air. Fortunately, the boss exposes a throat weak spot whenever it roars, and landing a clutch Focus Strike successfully cuts off its orders to the pack. Weaponizing Gundoraja, a small creature inhabiting the area, adds fantastic dynamic flair to the hunt. Wrapped in rock solid hide, a curled up Gundoraja can be hoisted directly by hand and hurled at targets. Sniping the hyper active Araketa takes real precision, but connecting delivers a heavy blow that staggers the monster in its tracks. The assault was so relentless that we completely forgot to trigger Boost state at times, even with a maxed out Boost gauge. Somehow, we managed to take down the boss variant right before time ran out. It was a fierce uphill battle, but nothing beats the sheer thrill of hunting a brand new monster for the first time. Given another chance, we can’t wait to thoroughly explore every corner of Skybound Eyrie. New attacks arrive in the battle against Teostra Finally, we stepped into the Oilwell Basin to go head-to-head with Elder Dragon Teostra. Alongside franchise staples like charges, flame breath, and blast explosions, this demo showcased brand new attack patterns we had never seen before. What left the biggest impression was a terrifying move where Teostra rears high and slams both forelegs down with crushing force. Attempting to circle around its flank, Teostra remained upright while pivoting on the spot to realign its target. Luckily, a quick reaction with the Switch Axe Offset Rising Slash landed cleanly, deflecting the heavy slam right back at the monster. While the windup looks horrifying, mastering the timing makes for an incredibly rewarding counter option. Fighting Teostra inside the Oilwell Basin created an especially toxic combination. Whenever dust scattered to signal an impending blast, getting stuck in thick oil mud repeatedly sabotaged our movement, continually robbing us of the precious seconds needed to dodge away. While Teostra remains an absolute nightmare to fight, leveraging Focus Mode, wound destruction, and new Boost Actions allowed us to trade blows effectively. Ultimately, a devastating surprise hit wiped out our health, and exhausting our recovery items triggered a heart breaking quest failed screen as time expired. Between breathtaking new locales, formidable beasts, and revolutionary combat depth brought by Boost Action, this short taste proved that Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance is set to evolve monster hunting in spectacular ways. Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance launches on PS5 in 2027. View the full article
  5. At long last, the Blue Bomber is leaping back into action with Mega Man: Dual Override. However, he’s not the only one making a return in the highly anticipated game. Capcom’s latest evolution of the Mega Man series also features a second playable character! Proto Man is making his comeback in Mega Man: Dual Override, and the fan favorite is armed with a powerful playstyle that’s entirely his own. Today, we’re excited to share a closer look at Proto Man and the unique arsenal he’ll unleash in this all-new adventure. Proto Man’s return in Dual Override is something we’ve been teasing from the very jump. Fans may have heard his signature whistle in our reveal trailer, but now it’s official. Proto Man is back, and in the latest footage, you can catch the first look at him in action. Alongside the arrival of Mega Man: Dual Override, next year marks the 40th anniversary of the series. It’s a long legacy, and Proto Man has been a key part of that story over the years. As Dr. Light’s first creation, he’s the legendary prototype who started it all. The mysterious red-clad robot originally debuted as an adversary in Mega Man 3. Over time, however, Proto Man has moved beyond his rivalry with the Blue Bomber. Now, he’s a trusted ally who appears when Mega Man is in trouble, lending a hand when it matters most. It’s been a bit since Proto Man’s last appearance as a playable character in Mega Man 10, but he’s picked up some new tricks since then. Over the course of Dual Override, players will discover Proto Man and Mega Man each excel in different areas, possessing their own distinct strengths, combat philosophies, and even progression systems. Contrasting with Mega Man’s longer-range approach to combat, Proto Man excels in close quarters. The wandering warrior has a more aggressive but technical playstyle that rewards rushing into the fray with precision. His iconic weapon, the Proto Buster, may have a relatively short range, but it packs a serious punch with high attack power at point blank. The Proto Shield also returns in Dual Override, and this time around, players will have the chance to wield it on both offense and defense, as part of Proto Man’s special abilities. Unlike Mega Man, who replicates the powers of Robot Masters he defeats, Proto Man walks his own path. By defeating bosses over the course of the journey, he’ll unlock new attacks (many of which revolve around his shield), reinforcing his role as a close-range fighter. Instead of switching between these tools one at a time, Proto Man will develop a versatile loadout of Shield Actions that can all be used on command to tap into more offense and mobility on the fly. However, this power comes at a cost. Overreliance on these skills puts a strain on Proto Man’s body, causing him to overheat with repeated use. So please be mindful of Proto Man’s temperature to help him stay cool in the heat of battle. Choice and customization are also at the core of Dual Override. Beyond selecting between Mega Man and Proto Man, players can also enjoy added flexibility with the Custom Chip system – one of the brand-new gameplay features in Dual Override. There are more than 50 chips in the game, each of which grants an active ability or passive effect, so you can experiment by creating tailor-made builds with countless combinations. Whether it’s more offense, survivability, or something else entirely, Custom Chips open up a whole new world of tactical options for Mega Man and Proto Man to explore. Another one of the game’s key features (it’s in the title, after all!) is the Override system. This new addition allows the game’s dual protagonists to transcend their normal limits, unleashing tremendous power and amplifying their abilities for a short period of time. You can catch a glimpse of Proto Man activating his explosive Override in the latest trailer. This dramatic transformation shouldn’t be undertaken lightly, though! Once Override ends, our heroes will find themselves in a more vulnerable state. So, it’s important to choose the perfect moment to pull the trigger on harnessing this high-risk, high-reward maneuver. With two playable heroes, each with their own unique playstyles, and new features that add layers of strategy to the experience, fans can look forward to plenty of variety of depth in Mega Man: Dual Override when it launches in Spring 2027 for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. Until then, you can wishlist the game now on the PlayStation Store. View the full article

  7. My name is Kristina, I work at the indie studio Hyper Games. We’re based in Norway, so you can be sure we know a lot about snow, which is great with our upcoming cozy adventure game, Moomintroll: Winter’s Warmth. It is our second Moomin game and it is coming to PlayStation 5 on September 18. Our first was the cozy spring and musical adventure Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley. The main character, Moomintroll, wakes up from his hibernation, but winter is still lingering and no one else in the family is ready to rouse from their slumber. Our reluctant hero then decides to bring back spring to wake everyone up and get his best friend, Snufkin, back to Moominvalley. The Moomins were created by Tove Jansson, and the first story was published in 1945. Having lived through World War II, Tove created a world away from war and facism. The stories of the Moomins reflect life itself and contain a mixture of darkness and humor, and how to get along with it all. Tove was a private, but courageous person and in addition to war, she lived through a period where having a same-gender partner was illegal. She used concealed language and creative storytelling to express love in her stories. For example, in our game you meet a character named Too-Ticky, which Tove created based on her life partner, Tuulikki Pietilä. The interactive storybook It has been such a joy creating games from the stories made by Tove Jansson and we have done our best to bring to life a world that reflects both the softness and emotional complexity of the Moomins. For Moomintroll: Winter’s Warmth, we wanted to create a game that gives the players a storybook atmosphere with an aquarelle look, inspired by Tove’s own visual works. To achieve this we combined 3D shapes with proper 2D painted elements, using several shading and texturing tricks to achieve a coherent mix of the two. It is made to look like the watercolors have tinted the paper, but imperfectly like it typically can be. We try to do as much as possible in our game development engine Unity, with shader and texture work, as this makes for a concise look of it all. You can find references to Tove’s art, characters and stories in Moomintroll: Winter’s Warmth. Did you see the carpet in the screenshot above? Let’s take a closer look. You can find both the Ancestor, and the Hattifatteners on the carpet. And then we have a beautiful red chair in the living room, and an X-ray of Moomintroll in his bedroom that some fans might recognise. The snow of Moomintroll: Winter’s Warmth As mentioned, to get the storybook look, we have mostly flat structures, landscapes and items in the game, but we wanted the snow to feel like it has weight and move in relation to Moomintroll. The game’s terrain is created from simple shapes, and a deformable layer of snow is added. The layer will respond to interaction from characters and other elements and give the feel of actually walking through the snow. In the engine it looks like this… In the screenshot above, you can also see bushes that are flat and maybe look similar to stage props used in theater? Clever use of perspective and camera angles are possibly the closest we come to creating magic. The result are areas where soft snow gets brought up and thrown down as weighted and textured substances. It looks perfect to make snow figurines with. Available from September 18 Thank you for reading our little art deep dive, we hope you find a lot of fun art and details when playing through Moomintroll: Winter’s Warmth and feel the hygge, as we would say, of Moominvalley. We leave you with concept art for a dark and cold winter forest and Moomintroll who realizes he is braver than he thought. View the full article
  8. Silent Hill: Townfall incorporates multiple elements that draw players into its tense, unnerving world. In this post, we would like to present what developer Screen Burn focused on to realize this level of immersion, as well as how PS5 features are integrated in the game’s experience. I would first like to give a brief introduction of the game for players who are learning about Silent Hill: Townfall for the first time. This is the first full-length game in the series that is presented in first-person, and this allows players to be truly immersed in the world that the game has to offer. The limited scope of vision in this perspective turns sound into a crucial element, and 3D audio convincingly recreates nearby sounds. Simon, the protagonist, drifts through the cold seas and shores up on St. Amelia, wandering through the empty town with nothing but the objective to “put things right” to guide him. Replacing the iconic radio is a device called the CRTV, which players will hold in one hand to scout roaming monsters, search for clues to puzzles, and explore the island. Screen Burn are masters of narrative-driven puzzles, and players will get to experience the story not just through cinematics alone, but also through various puzzles in a fragmented fashion. Scattered secrets and pieces of the story come together to gradually reveal a gruesome past. As a very socially conscious story in the series, the game will present a deep narrative between the individual and the corporate as well as the individual and society at large. Play Video Building immersive horror Generally, Silent Hill: Townfall’s style of horror is less about jump scares and gore, and more about tension and escalating uncertainty. Building that tension, sustaining it, and releasing just at the right time is one of the secret ingredients in all good horror. When that horror is interactive, and the player is free to explore at their own pace, you need complex visual, auditory and tactile systems to understand the current experience, deliver crafted moments, and react to the player’s actions. Sound from all around The sound design, background audio, and musical score all work together in harmony to create a truly nightmarish soundscape that conjures images and scenarios in the player’s head, even when they can’t see anything unusual in front of them.  Working with Audio Director Byron Bullock, and composer Pilotpriest, the team have gone to great efforts to ensure that the sound of the environments and its horrific inhabitants lift the believability when navigating the town, all delivered through complex and finely-tuned custom 3D audio systems, that truly give you a sense of depth and space. A believable world to explore St. Amelia is densely layered with true-to-the-era details, all drawn from our developers’ own experiences. The town isn’t as dilapidated as many fans of the series will be used to. Instead, St. Amelia feels like a place that has recently gone through its own trauma, rather than left to rot after countless years of abandonment. Its world is recently lived in, and it’s deeply important to the story that players get a sense of the community that inhabits the island, and ultimately care about the issues it has faced, and what it stands to lose.  That level of detail and storytelling in the environment pulls players in, and doesn’t let go. Ray-traced lighting helps to not only paint these scenes in beautifully soft ambient lighting from the foggy world outside, but it also means the environments react believably with your flashlight, flashing alarm lights, or the sudden shocking change from the blue-grey fog to the bright red Otherworld, layered in pipes, alarm lights, broken buildings and stained walls.  Horror in your hands The last piece of the puzzle is in your hands as you play. Using the array of features on the DualSense Controller, we give every swing of a weapon, pull of a trigger, or thud of a heavy footstep from a nearby enemy a tactile sensation via Haptic Feedback. You can feel the weight of the trigger of each weapon uniquely via Adaptive Triggers. You can even use the Motion Controls of the controller to fine tune the CRTV, or give aiming your firearms an intuitive feel, all customizable in the game’s menu options. Ultimately, all of the lengths we go to are designed to have you forget you are playing a game, and instead immerse you in the moment, scared to move on, but compelled to continue. That rich, atmospheric experience complements the desire to know what truly unfolded in St. Amelia, and what Simon, Zoe and Richard have to do with it all… Silent Hill: Townfall is a brand-new, first-person Silent Hill brought to life by the PS5. We hope players will find their minds flooded with all sorts of thoughts and emotions that come from being a member of the complex modern-day society. Please experience for yourself the deep contemplations and narrative journey that Simon embarks upon. The game launches on September 25, but we will continue to share updates on Silent Hill: Townfall, so stay tuned. View the full article
  9. Today is a big day for the Wo Long team and fans alike, as we have two incredible announcements to share. First off, we can finally let everyone know that Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember is scheduled to launch on March 4, 2027. Even better? If you want to jump into the dark action RPG early, the Alpha Demo is live today and available until September 30! In the Alpha Demo, you can play part of the Changban stage, utilizing Chinese martial arts that blend offense and defense, traversing the Three Kingdoms battlefield where demons run rampant, and engaging in combat with legendary heroes from history. As you’re waiting for the demo to download, be sure to check out our new trailer that showcases not only our hero, but the legendary figures of the Three Kingdoms as they battle against an onslaught of demons. Play Video Acrobatic Chinese martial arts with total freedom of movement As you play through the Alpha Demo, you’ll experience tense battles against powerful enemies. The gameplay balances the flow between offense and defense, so make full use of Deflect, which nullifies and redirects enemy attacks, along with the wide variety of distinctive Martial Arts techniques and weapons at your disposal. In Wo Long 2, the key is to make effective use of Insight Skills, which enhance the protagonist’s actions. These Insight Skills allow you to stave off and counter enemy attacks and send foes crashing into walls, or to slam enemies that strike from above down to the ground. Open battlefields of the Three Kingdoms where the war situation is always changing In this title, famous Three Kingdoms battlefields such as Changban and the Red Cliffs are depicted in open fields, but they’re not the same as the ancient China you’ve read about. As you cross these expansive maps, you’ll find everything from enemy strongholds to demonic lairs. How you approach them is up to you. One method is to employ a range of strategies—flank enemy lines, capture bases, set traps, or even recruit enemy generals to your side—to turn the tide of battle when the odds are stacked against you. A dark fantasy set in the turbulent age of the Three Kingdoms, brought to life by warriors and demons In Wo Long 2, an original story unfolds in a dark fantasy version of the Three Kingdoms. Elixirs of immortality and demons inspired by legendary beings from Chinese classical literature exist alongside some of the era’s greatest warriors. Characters from the previous title will continue to play important roles, but the story is designed so that even newcomers to the series can enjoy it without feeling lost. The game features multiplayer co-op and character creation, which can also be enjoyed in the limited-time Alpha Demo. We hope you’ll take this opportunity to play the Alpha Demo. Defeating the boss Wuzhiqi will earn you the special Fledgling Phoenix Helmet for use in the full game. We also ask that you share your thoughts in the survey; the development team truly appreciates all player feedback, and it makes a huge difference in shaping the final product before launch. Pre-orders are available starting today. The digital pre-order bonus includes the full Creator Goddess Garb set. In addition, the Digital Deluxe Edition is also available for pre-order. It includes the Season Pass, digital mini soundtrack, and digital mini art book. Please be sure to check it out! View the full article

  13. Control Resonant is almost here, so it’s the perfect time to talk about how we are taking advantage of the unique opportunities provided by the PlayStation 5 hardware and the DualSense controller. Play Video The sequel to Control takes place in our twisted own version of Manhattan, which, I dare say, provides an incredible backdrop to the action and overall narrative players will experience in the game. The main story takes anywhere from 25 to 35 hours to complete, with plenty more for completionists. On PlayStation 5, you can track your main story quest progress through Activities. Game Help will also be available post-launch. At Remedy Entertainment, we’ve built an incredible amount of new technology for our proprietary Northlight engine to achieve the crazy ambitions we had for this game, all the while keeping a close eye on performance. It was our goal to make sure that the game looks and performs its best on PlayStation 5, no matter if you’re prioritizing graphics or performance. More details on that later in the blog, though. Control Resonant’s twisted Manhattan is split into visually distinct Zones, each with its own look. Fast traveling across them is near-instantaneous, as is going back and forth to the Gap, a liminal space within Dylan’s mind that he can access at will. In the Gap, you can unlock upgrades for Dylan and his shapeshifting weapon, the Aberrant, test your builds, craft Artifacts, and more. Control Resonant is a gameplay-driven experience, built with 60fps performance in mind from the beginning, as feel and responsiveness take top priority. To enhance this, Remedy’s game designers have taken full advantage of the DualSense adaptive triggers to give Dylan’s many combat abilities a tactile feel and create a stronger connection between your actions and his. Dylan’s various paranatural combat abilities, such as Barrage (which launches projectiles against enemies), or summoning a Volatile Anomaly (which is a turret-like ally that can be thrown and detonated), provide different levels of resistance when you pull the triggers to activate these abilities. Our audio team has also ensured 3D Audio support, adding another layer of sonic immersion with a compatible headset. Before we get into numbers, it’s worth pointing out that we sometimes tend to get a little too hung up on details like resolution. At Remedy, we believe that art direction and the overall visual experience ultimately matter more. That said, we take full advantage of the power of the PlayStation 5, so let’s take a look at the performance options you can choose from in Control Resonant. On PlayStation 5, the game offers Performance and Quality modes. Performance mode targets 60fps at 1440p, while Quality mode targets 30fps at 2160p. On the PlayStation 5 Pro, we use PSSR and offer three modes for you to choose from: Performance, Quality, and Balanced. Performance mode targets 60fps at 2160p. Quality mode targets 30fps at 2160p and adds ray tracing. For a nice balance between the two, if you have a 120Hz-compatible display, you can choose Balanced mode, which targets 40fps at 2160p and also features ray tracing. Whether you are playing on PlayStation 5 or the Pro, we’re looking forward to seeing you experience Control Resonant when it releases on September 24. See you on the streets of altered Manhattan! 15. Players will soon be able to sink their claws into Marvel’s Wolverine when it comes to PS5 on September 15. Ahead of its release, we had the chance to meet with part of the creative team behind the claws – Marcus Smith (creative director), Mike Daly (game director), Grant Hollis (senior art director), Brian Wyser (senior animation director), and Walt Williams (narrative director) — to learn more about crafting Wolverine’s final design, choosing which allies, foes and locations to feature, and how they knew they captured Logan’s essence. PlayStation: Insomniac has built this incredible reputation for comic book adaptations. Your version of Spider-Man, both Miles and Peter, has become iconic in its own way. What was it like to start that process over again for another character? Marcus Smith: Exciting, honestly. Very exciting. When you have to craft a player experience, it means going back to the drawing board and redefining what the character is, how we can be true to that character. And what we recognized very early on was Peter Parker and Miles Morales are very different than Logan. Every decision that we made after deciding what was key to Logan took us down a different road that deviated from Spider-Man. So, while Spider-Man is an open-world game, he’s so tied to New York, with Wolverine everything is closer, more visceral, more contact with the world, more grounded. What would you say is essential for designing Wolverine? What did you have to get right? Grant Hollis: The claws, and therefore the combat. He’s a reluctant hero that will get the job done by any means necessary. And so, for us, both in the visuals and in the animation, it was figuring out what does it mean to be Wolverine. From a visual standpoint, we were like, “Okay, Logan is a tank. He’s a little messier, he’s a little clumsier, he’ll break more stuff.” So that was all what we did on the art: blood, destruction, damage. Damage to you, damage to the enemies. Getting all of that was really important. Walt Williams: One of the great things about working on the story is that we had a fantastic actor, Liam McIntyre, who was our Logan. Crafting our version of Logan through him in lockstep and collaboration was such a key part to this. He has such an amazing range to be able to express the ferocity and the animalistic rage of Logan, but also, he can be such a gentle, kind soul. Which is really, I think, the most interesting thing about this character. There’s such a duality to him. The rage and the anger come from this deep well of emotional feeling. I thought it was interesting in the [hands on preview], the moments where his rage lets loose seem to be driven by his humanity, where he’s really grounded in his feelings. Smith: Absolutely. I think it was really important that this is a guy who has been dedicating his life being on Team X to protect mutants, and then seeing that mutants are being treated like science experiments and tossed away. That’s going to have an effect. That’s where he’s going to go crazy, seeing those that he would try to protect, the vulnerable, being completely dominated and thrown out. Mike Daly: And in a way, that’s a really good illustration of what makes video games so powerful. Because it’s not just a matter of seeing it in a cinematic or seeing it on the screen, but you feel it for yourself. You get pulled into that conflict, and you get to experience that very difficult to control rage for yourself. Going into his character design building out the [Battle Reborn] suit, did you know that this was the version you were always working towards? Or did you have multiple iterations? Hollis: With the suit, we knew early on that we wanted two colors. We were fans of the brown and yellow from the 1980s, as well as the yellow and blue with a little hint of red. We knew we wanted [it] to be something inspired from what had come in the past, but put our own spin on it. Because of the more grounded story we were shooting for, and the more lived-in universe, we knew we wanted [it] to have this tactical edge. We wanted it to feel like a suit that somebody could fabricate realistically, that would be based on what maybe a military outfit would be, or some body armor from a motorcycle rider. We took a lot of inspiration from real-world items. As for the color, pretty much we knew the yellow because it was in those two suits early on. It was just a matter of, what do we want to go with that yellow? We ended up going with a little more black than brown. When building the story, how did you decide which of Wolverine’s allies and villains to pull from? Smith: Well, Logan is kind of an introvert. He would be much happier sitting in his cabin, whittling away quietly. So, what was important to us is to put him in a team filled with conflict. Having an emotional, moral compass, a skewed personality conflict, it’s high drama. That’s exciting, we do want to see Logan and Sabretooth really going at it and calling each other names and all of that. Likewise, Mystique has a totally different outlook on life throughout the game that I hope will be surprising to players, fans especially. Then you have Jean Grey, who really taps into this mutual obligation to protect the most vulnerable. Their obligations run parallel, but their approaches and considerations might differ. So that’s really what it comes down to: how do these characters work with and against one another in good ways? Daly: Yeah, and as far as the other enemies you’ll fight, we knew we needed a force that could believably contend with Logan himself, who obviously is a very dangerous character to deal with. So, the Reavers were a good fit as extremely hyper-lethal cyborg mercenaries who had the equipment, the armor, the endurance, and the manpower to basically face off against Wolverine in a competent way. As well as the Hand, who have expert training in ancient tactics, but also really deadly weapons. They were both good fits that also had a natural place in the story, and we could put them in places where they have an objective that aligns with the story of the mission and pits you against them in a way that makes you feel like you’re making progress towards the story. Wolverine and Mystique, him and Sabretooth, what was that process of building out their distinct relationship with one another? Williams: One of the great things about a great Logan story is the sense of mystery, the sense of revelation. We knew that if we simply adapted relationships or arcs or stories that people had seen before, we would be robbing them of that because they would come in already knowing what to expect. Finding new angles on relationships with the characters like Sabretooth, beginning to explore more of their past in Team X, being able to see how these two might have a tumultuous but brother-in-arms type relationship…where is that line? How does it constantly shift from supporting each other to antagonism? Sabretooth is kind of literally the big brother. This is a man who’s about nine feet tall, and so yes, him and Logan have that shared animalistic nature. But at the same time, Sabretooth feels abandoned by Logan. And with Mystique, this is a woman whose powers allowed her to hide in plain sight for so long until she found Team X and was empowered to be the best her that she could be. And now she travels the world. She doesn’t have to fear for safety. She doesn’t have to fear for her identity. She is getting to live the life of a worldwide soldier, assassin, freedom fighter for mutants, and she’s just loving every minute of it. While Sabretooth and Logan are constantly bickering, she’s getting the job done. Not because she’s the responsible one, but because she actually likes it. She’s having a great time. She’s like, I get to travel the world. I get to meet and kill interesting people. Let’s go! So finding these nuanced, found-family kind of relationships and exploring angles on them that we haven’t really seen before, we knew it was going to be rewarding for players to experience. How would you say Wolverine’s animation sets him apart from the other characters? Brian Wyser: Sabretooth is definitely much more of a wrecking ball. He throws caution to the wind and acts first, thinks second. You can see that in his combat as he’s an ally fighting alongside of you. With Wolverine, it’s a journey. We plant a stake in the ground early on in a project on the animation team, where we will do pre-vis examples of what the design team wants. We try and visualize that action in a sequence. I think one of the earliest things we put together was Wolverine fighting in the snow. As we explore, we use those as kind of our tentpole to say, well, some of that’s great, but not this other trait. It becomes a stake in the ground. With the development of [Wolverine’s] fighting style, we knew from the start that this is a man that is trained in every martial art. We want him to be much more of a brawler and capable of just laying waste to many at once. That became something that was really a trait we focused on for his combat. And the last thing I’ll say, as an animation pillar or goal, we really wanted to bring out the animal in Wolverine. We really wanted to take [his] quadrupedal stride as he’s beginning to run and apply that to traversal as he moves around in the world. How do you want players to feel when they finish the game? Williams: I want players to walk away with empathy for what this man has gone through. This is a man who has suffered so much and lost so much, while at the same time brought so much to the people around him. [He] has sacrificed, in many cases, everything in order to make sure that the people he cares about get to see another day. If players walk away with that type of empathy for Logan, not just loving the visceral action of getting to be Wolverine, but feeling sympathy for the man Logan is, then we truly have created and given them the ultimate Wolverine experience. Experience the combat, rage, and humanity of Marvel’s Wolverine when it comes to PlayStation 5 on September 15. View the full article
  16. The latest installment in the flight-shooting series, Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve releases on October 2, 2026. Today, we are excited to share with PlayStation players the first look at our Wings of Theve story trailer, giving a glimpse into the tranquil daily lives of the crew aboard The Endurance and their time together amidst an ongoing war. From fierce battles against formidable enemy Sotoan ace squadrons to colossal superweapons that pose a threat to the Federation of Central Usea, players will face new threats and learn what secrets lie ahead in Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve. Play Video Let’s deep dive into the story and be sure to stick around to the end for an exclusive reveal on a fan-favorite mode that is confirmed in the franchise’s next release! Dogfights are notorious within the Ace Combat series as you engage in exhilarating dogfight against daunting rival aces. Today’s trailer showcased a head-to-head battle between the Leader of the Elite Sotoan Air Force Shadows Unit “Shadow 22” and the Joker Flight led by the “Wings of Theve”. In addition to threats in the skies, you will also be forced to face off against numerous superweapons that dominate the ground or overwhelm the distant skies. It is up to you to lead your squad to victory and save the Federation of Central Usea (FCU). This is what you’ll find in the heart of our next mission reveal! A fan-favorite mission in Ace Combat In this mission, you are tasked with a counterattack against Sotoan forces where you must destroy every enemy and targets in sight. Not only will you have the chance to experience the full thrill of flight shooting, but fans will also be able to experience a franchise favorite mode, Annihilation Battle. The freedom of Annihilation Missions In this Annihilation Battle, you’ll face key enemy facilities―including a solar power plant, an oil tank, an air base, and an ammo dump ―all while making good use of supply lines where you can replenish your own weapons during the mission. The gameplay offers a high degree of freedom within the time limit, allowing players to devise their own strategies―such as deciding which enemies to take down and in what order, as well as when to return to the “return line” to reload their weapons. “I believe this mission category best embodies the core pillar of the Ace Combat series: the player’s ability to eliminate enemies based on their own judgment.” Manabu Shimomoto, the game’s producer, shares his thoughts on why Mission 7 will be appealing to Ace Combat 8 players. New ways to enjoy Annihilation Battles in Ace Combat 8 Just like the large transport aircraft Podarge we introduced in previous trailers, you can enjoy chain destruction in the Annihilation battles for this newest installment in the series. Shimomoto-san notes, “For example, if you hit a flammable object―such as an oil tank at an enemy base―and cause an explosion, you can also cause a chain reaction that destroys surrounding buildings.” In addition, structures located near where downed enemy aircraft crash may also be destroyed. The production team had this consideration when developing the mission as it adds depth to the strategy regarding the order and timing of players’ attacks. Formidable foes threatening the Federation of Central Usea Forces Outside of the Annihilation Mission, you’ll face numerous enemies or have to evade their threats. Here are just a few that you can look forward to battling: Megafloat Fatsia The Megafloat Fatsia, situated off of the west coast of the Republic of Sotoa, is a marine megafacility in the form of an artificial island. It serves as an arms factory for the Sotoan military as well as a supply station for landing invasions. It was constructed as part of a national project to develop coastal waters and provide future housing to compensate for land lost to desertification. The Megafloat extends a full six kilometers and has multiple layers, with a 2,000-meter runway on its top deck that allows for even large transport aircraft to land and take off. The central block contains a power plant that uses Sotoan cold fusion technology. Deuterium is harvested from seawater as fuel to provide the various parts of the structure with electricity, from arms factories to synthetic fuel plants. Surplus power is used to create fresh water via desalination and deliver it to the mainland via pipeline. For defenses, each area is equipped with automated systems linked to multifunction radar. Weaponry include CIWS, SAM batteries, and railguns linked in cooperative engagement capability (CEC) to defensive aircraft, allowing the Megafloat to attack targets over the horizon. UAVs fly around the structure, acting as sensor nodes that expand its defensive range to a 400 km radius. Attack satellite Tonitrus Spear “Tonitrus Spear” refers to a Sotoan satellite weapon, a kinetic weapon based on a project conceived of by the Yuktobania during the Cold War as a strategic alternative to nuclear strikes. From a platform stationed at a low-orbit altitude of 500 km, the Tonitrus Spear employs mass and gravitational acceleration to launch dense metal rods using pure kinetic energy, destroying targets in a wide radius without the drawbacks of radioactive fallout. Aces will need to use their wit to slip through its attacks and dodge this weapon! In addition to these formidable foes we’ve shared here, you’ll be able to find more unidentified enemies when you play the campaign mode. Be sure to see for yourself what these other threats are all about and get ready to take to the skies when Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve launches on PS5 on October 2, 2026. 19. Hi everyone. I’m Sergey, Lead Gameplay Designer on Control Resonant. We’re getting very close to our September 24 launch, and the team here in Espoo (and Stockholm) is incredibly excited to finally share what we’ve been building. With Control Resonant, we’re introducing a new combat system built around Dylan’s shapeshifting melee weapon, the Aberrant. Combat is close-range and demanding, with enemies that require you to read their attacks, manage staggers and status effects, and time your dodges. We knew that this new system would come with a new learning curve. So rather than relying on a handful of traditional difficulty levels, we wanted to give players much more control over individual parts of the experience. Customize your experience Control Resonant’s Assist Mode is a suite of customizable options designed to let you adjust the mechanics that might be getting in your way – without necessarily changing everything else. For example, if enemies are overwhelming you by attacking from multiple directions, you can reduce Enemy Aggression. If you’re having trouble reading the timing of an attack, you can widen the Perfect Dodge Window or reduce Enemy Projectile Speed. We spend a lot of time discussing the exact frame count of a standard dodge window – usually over far too much coffee – but the reality is that players have very different reaction times and ways of playing. The same approach applies to damage and combat resources. You can independently adjust Incoming Damage, Outgoing Damage, and Outgoing Falter, which controls how quickly you break an enemy’s posture. If managing Dylan’s supernatural abilities during a chaotic fight is becoming too much, you can increase Power Recovery Speed. You can also adjust Enhanced Melee Magnetizing to make positioning during melee attacks more forgiving. And if you want to focus on exploring Manhattan and experiencing the story without the stress of combat, Assist Mode includes options such as Immortality, One-Hit Kills, and the new One-Hit Falters. The idea is simple: instead of asking you to choose an overall difficulty, we let you change the specific parts of combat that aren’t working for you. Try the game first One thing we deliberately avoided was putting these settings in front of you before you even start your first playthrough. Every player is different, and you haven’t played Control Resonant yet. Asking you to make decisions about mechanics you haven’t experienced doesn’t make much sense to us. That’s why you can enable or disable Assist Mode at any point during gameplay. We want you to experience the intended combat rhythm first, get a feel for the game, and then adjust individual settings whenever you feel the need. You can also choose from a set of Assist Mode Presets created around different ways of playing and then fine-tune individual settings from there. Make it harder, too There’s another important change from the first Control: Assist Mode can now make the game harder. In the original game, the sliders could only reduce the challenge. In Control Resonant, they work in both directions. If you find the base game too forgiving, you can increase enemy aggression, make the Perfect Dodge Window smaller, and increase Incoming Damage to create a much more demanding experience. We know players enjoy different kinds of challenges, so we wanted Assist Mode to give you that flexibility, too. Play your way We talk a lot internally about designer intent. We have a carefully crafted experience in mind for Control Resonant, balanced to be tense, demanding, and rewarding. But our philosophy is straightforward: if you run into a wall and the friction becomes too much, we’d much rather you adjust the rules and keep playing than put the controller down and stop. Your time is valuable, and how you experience the game is ultimately up to you. That’s why we don’t gate any trophies or achievements behind Assist Mode. Use the settings however you need to and play Control Resonant on your terms. We can’t wait for you to get your hands on the Aberrant when Control Resonant launches on PS5 this September 24. See you in Manhattan. View the full article

  25. Hello, it has been ten years now since the release of No Man’s Sky, and we wanted to do something special to mark the moment. The Cosmos update brings a massive overhaul to space itself and is free to download for existing PlayStation players today, and it’s a massive one. Play Video Space is such a huge part of No Man’s Sky, but space itself has remained largely unchanged in all our ten years of updates! With Cosmos we wanted to make space feel truly alive. We ‘ve added asteroid belts, space hulks, outposts, missions, strange anomalies, and tons of mystery to explore. There’s so much to do in space that we’ve added a beautiful map to plot and keep track of every system. Then we started to think, could we make space feel more like home? What if you could own a Space Station? If you could build star bases, and create alliances with other players. Warping to a system now, your first action will often be a quick scan of the new solar system map to reveal a whole new array of space points of interest, each of which unlock whole new strands of missions and exploration. There are huge “space hulks”, which can be stripped and salvaged. The physics gravity gun can be used to pull chunks of metal from these wrecks, and can be thrown to a new tractor beam fitted to your ship. Become too greedy, and tear too much from a hulk, and it may begin to meltdown and explode. Scanning first for the highest value rewards is the smart move. Perhaps you take your new rewards to one of the new space outposts, to trade with alien lifeforms. Here you can buy maps, get information about the area and take on new missions from its inhabitants. Beware though, some of these facilities have been overwhelmed by biological hazards, and may need to be cleared out and reclaimed carefully. Gorgeous asteroid belts of rock and ice formations boast a large array of valuable crystal resources. Some rare asteroids are large enough to land on and even build a star base on. Why limit yourself to a base on an asteroid? Free-floating modular bases can be built anywhere in space. Build your own truck stop for star ships, orbital restaurant, or military outpost. There’s something incredibly special about floating in space, planets looming large below you, watching the universe go by. If that isn’t enough, at last players can buy the system’s space station for themselves! They can build and decorate it both inside and externally, and some wild creativity is possible. You can create your own themed Station, as your own clubhouse and have friends come and visit. Perhaps that Station then becomes the place where you found your own Alliance to which you can invite all players to join your new society. As an alliance, you can work together to build a networked empire of different stations and rise the new leaderboards to compete for the largest, richest or most prominent alliance. The center of the solar system is the sun, and finally players can try to undertake a perilous journey to reach the center of their own star system! Expeditions have become a very popular feature of No Man’s Sky. For our 10th year, we have done something a bit special. Each milestone of the anniversary expedition will correspond to a specific No Man’s Sky update from the 40+ we have released over the last decade. Each milestone’s gameplay reflects some of the features that were introduced with that update, peppered with some interesting logs about how that update came into being. It’s like a journey through time, and honestly we’ve found it a little emotional to put together. Cosmos is a massive update, but it’s also just another step in our journey together. Right from the beginning, our game, our updates and our patch notes are a love letter from us to the community. Thank you so much for joining us. Our journey continues. View the full article
  26. When we launched Dead or Alive 6 Last Round back in June, we promised that the game’s launch was just the beginning. Tomorrow, the next evolution of the title begins as we introduce the highly anticipated new character, Minato, into the mix. We can’t wait to see what everyone thinks of the new character once they get the chance to play as her, but first, let me give a quick introduction on who Minato is and what she’s all about. Who is Minato? Minato is a seemingly ordinary female student attending school in Tokyo. She’s a cheerful and outgoing girl who could be found anywhere, yet there’s an air of otherworldliness about her. While it’s known that she lives on her own away from her parents, much of her private life remains a mystery, and although she’s well-liked by her friends, they also view her as a mysterious person. That said, Minato occasionally displays astonishing physical abilities. She began dancing as a casual hobby, with the simple goal of making both dancers and spectators feel cheerful and positive. She then went on to make her debut at a world-class dance competition and won first place on her very first try, earning her the nickname Tokyo JK. Around that time, Minato began disappearing somewhere in a hurry after school and on weekends. She claims it’s part-time work, but the true nature of her activities remains unclear. Occasionally, she is seen chatting amiably on her smartphone with someone named NiCO. Meanwhile, M.I.S.T.’s cyberneticist NiCO has just hired a part-time worker (who goes by a strange codename) for a certain experiment. The experiment seems to be progressing smoothly for the most part, but she cannot understand why this part-timer calls NiCO her best friend, worries about her, and acts so close toward her. To this day, Minato’s true identity and real purpose remain shrouded in mystery. Minato’s fighting style Behind Minato’s gentle appearance lies extraordinary physical ability. Having already won a world-class dance competition, she applies her sense of rhythm, athleticism, and empathy to combat as well. Minato uses a contact lens-type device currently under development by NiCO that converts the movements of other fighters into signals her body can physically replicate, allowing her to freely master the techniques used by DOA tournament participants. As a dance enthusiast, she favors flashy, visually striking moves and fights with the same joy as if she were dancing. With a wide range of attacks, including vertical and horizontal spins, she is a character that’s easy for beginners to use. One of her signature moves is the Minato Shuffle. This is a unique dance step that can be performed directly from specific attacks. From this dance, she can unleash multiple powerful follow-up attacks. Follow-up attacks from the Minato Shuffle are technical and require the player’s creativity, making her a character that offers a satisfying challenge even for advanced players. Minato’s backstory To make her approachable even for those new to the Dead or Alive series, we focused on creating a positive and relatable character image without being overly fixated on typical fighting game tropes or Dead or Alive specific elements. Dead or Alive features an expansive narrative filled with various factions and the distinctive characters that belong to them. To ensure that Minato can move freely and vibrantly, we’ve positioned her as a mysterious figure who belongs to no specific faction — revealing only that she is NiCO’s friend. We chose a Japanese student as the visual concept because we believed it could embody an image that is free, approachable, and positive — one without pretense or political maneuvering—and that conveys a sense of the future and growth. Above all, we determined it was the most suitable motif for expressing both cute and beautiful — elements that Team Ninja excels at — in perfect harmony. We hope you’ll enjoy this game through Minato, the newest addition to the DOA world…but not the last! View the full article
