Obsidian Sanctum is a different and unique take on single boss raiding, the latest expansion to the World of Warcraft classic Wrath of the Lich King, featuring one boss and three "mini-bosses".

Along with the Eye of Eternity (another Foreign Chieftain raid in the sourcebook) and Naxxramas, the newly added raid will participate in the first PvE-centric trial players will experience in the latest classic sourcebook. This is the first of its kind in World of Warcraft, as players will enter a raid to fight not just one boss, but three other sub-bosses that alter the main boss.

So here's a guide to Obsidian Sanctuary, including its bosses and their mechanics, key loot, and more.

The Obsidian Sanctuary in the chamber consists of a boss, Sartharian (the main boss) and three mini-bosses found in Vesperon, Shadron, and Tenebron, the twilight dragons.

In the Sanctuary, the Black Dragon Sartharian is tasked with guarding the Twilight Egg, with the help of the three dragons.

Compared to the Eternal Eye, this raid is completely different in terms of each boss type. You may have a big, bad boss in your midst, but if you don't take out his minions, you're going to have a hard time.

If alive, the three twilight hatchlings, the twilight dragon Vesperon, Shadron, and Tynebron, will not only join the fight, but also greatly enhance Sasario by amplifying Sasario's will. This buff increases Sarharion's life expectancy by 25% with 1 hatchling surviving, 45% over 2 hatchlings, and 65% over 3 hatchlings. This not only makes the fights longer, but also more difficult.

When fighting Vesperon and Shadron, each hatchling is typically a tank and a spanker, so your tank takes care of the target, your DPS gets bogged down, and your healer keeps the team alive. After about 15-20 seconds, however, they open a portal into which you send a healer, a subtank, and all of your DPS. Inside the portal you will meet the disciples of each dragon. Take out the disciples, exit the portal and take out the main dragon and get the reward wotlk gold classic.

The same can be expected for Tenebron, but instead of the disciples inside the portal, the player will encounter several eggs. You have to shoot down as many eggs as possible. Once the portal is complete, any remaining eggs will be born as hatchlings and can be killed along with the Tenebron.

Like any other small dragon fight, Sassarion has its normal dragon-like mechanics. Breathing, slashing and flogging - all should be avoided. There is a twist, however. In addition to these mechanics, the platform or area where you fight Sarharion is surrounded by lava, which has a positive effect on you throughout the fight.

At certain points in the encounter it is stated: "The lava is rolling around Sarharion!" This creates huge lava waves. If left unavoidable, these waves can inflict a DoT on any player caught in them, dealing significant damage. Done right, the waves themselves are easy to dodge as they are huge, obvious, and slow. They are generated from the left or right side of the battlefield and have gaps. Go through the gaps to avoid damage. The location of these gaps is predictable because depending on which wave you get, you can dodge it accordingly.

Later in the fight minions are summoned just like any other normal boss with minions, you just have to separate them from the boss. However, if they are hit by the lava wave, they become enraged and take 400% additional damage.

If you want to defeat Sasario with all three of his twin brothers alive, you'll need to use all of each boss's mechanics at the same time. Make sure you clear the trash first!

Although Obsidian Sanctuary has 3 mini-bosses in addition to the main boss, this raid only features the loot from the main boss. It offers some drops that players in 10 and 25 man should watch out for.
