This week, fans of two legendary games will enjoy the spoils of an amazing collaboration as Bungie and Ubisoft have joined forces to bring new content to both Destiny 2 and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla; content inspired by each other’s games and bridging the gap between these two fan-favorite universes. Play Video Coinciding with the launch of the new Season in Destiny 2, Season of the Seraph, Bungie is bringing a host of new content inspired by the Assassin’s Creed universe into Destiny 2. Guardians will have the chance to don new armor ornaments and cosmetics inspired by Ubisoft’s famed adventure franchise, including three new class-specific armor ornament sets: a Hunter ornament set inspired by Kassandra from Assassin’s Creed Odyssey; a powerful-looking Titan set inspired by Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s Eivor; and a mysterious Warlock set inspired by the iconic Altaïr from the original Assassin’s Creed. In addition, Guardians will also be able to purchase a new ship, Sparrow, Ghost, and new finisher, all influenced by Assassin’s Creed lore. Today Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will bring new content inspired by Destiny 2. A new character pack will feature two new armor sets featuring Destiny characters Lord Shaxx and Saint-14 and two Swords inspired by a pair of iconic Exotic Destiny weapons: the Gjallarhorn Rocket Launcher and the Thorn Hand Cannon. In addition, a new weapons pack includes four new weapons that have been designed with Destiny’s subclasses in mind, including their own custom effects and gameplay perks. Bringing history (and the future) to life For the Bungie team, the opportunity to bring Assassin’s Creed’s world of historical action into the sci-fi fantasy universe of Destiny was a unique opportunity. That was especially true when it came to bringing a trio of iconic Assassin’s Creed characters to life as Guardians. “We had to consider how well each of the characters we chose would fit into the different Destiny Guardian classes,” says Bungie’s Ian McIntosh. “It was very easy to imagine Altaïr as a Warlock because his long robes perfectly fit the typical Warlock look in Destiny 2. We thought Eivor, being very tough and carrying a shield, would make a great Titan. And Kassandra works well as a Hunter because of a lot of similarities she has with that class—there’s the lightweight leather and cloth garb as well as her stealthy fighting style.” “The Assassin’s Creed character style, which I would describe as fantasy inspired by the fashion of the historical period in which each story takes place, has a lot of similarities to what you might see in Destiny 2,” McIntosh continues. “Both games draw inspiration from the real world and then put their own unique twist on it. The one missing ingredient though, which you always see in Destiny 2, was the science fiction element. For these armor ornaments, we mixed in a few additional hard surface armor components that have that classic Destiny look to them. The best example is the addition of Guardian helmets, which replace the human faces. “Of course we wanted to incorporate certain iconic design elements that help define each of the Destiny Guardian classes into these armor sets as well. For example, we gave the Kassandra Hunter armor a long cape, and we added a Warlock bond class item to the Altaïr set. To fit it into the Destiny lore a little better, we altered the design of the shield on the back of the Eivor Titan armor, so it looks more like a traditional Destiny Titan shield.” The team at Ubisoft had its own challenge: instead of taking Assassins into the future, they were taking Guardians into the past. Nowhere is that more apparent than with the new Gjallarhorn Sword that’s found in the new Character Pack in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. The challenge here wasn’t just to create a great-looking and functional weapon that Valhalla players would enjoy, it was to translate the famed Exotic Rocket Launcher from Destiny into an entirely new form—a great sword that was just as useful on the battlefield during raids in the 9th century as its projectile-firing counterpart was while taking down swarms of Hive or Vex. “We did a few design iterations and explored how the Rocket Launcher could be translated in the Assassin’s Creed world. Through the different designs, we asked ourselves how much of it can be a Sword and a Rocket Launcher while still preserving the wolf crest, barrel, and color palette since they need to be central in all the designs while still being functional. We were essentially making a gun-sword, so we paid attention to where the projectiles can logically come out off and still make sure that there’s a good balance between the blade and the barrel of the Sword,” says Ubisoft’s JP Tan. As the Ubisoft team put it, working on the Destiny character and weapons packs were labors of love. “We wanted to make sure that if we wanted to make this weapon, we would do it right. This is a love letter from us to those who enjoy the stories and experiences of these wonderful games,” says Ubisoft’s Ren Gomos. Destiny 2’s new Season, Season of the Seraph, is available now and will feature a new three-person matchmade activity called Heist Battlegrounds, as well as a new Exotic mission. In addition, the new Spire of the Watcher dungeon will launch in Destiny 2 on December 9. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s latest title update is available now. In addition to the new Destiny content, the update includes two free new quests. The first, titled The Last Chapter, will bring an intimate closure to the saga of Eivor the Wolf-Kissed. The second quest features Roshan from Assassin’s Creed Mirage, where you will see her in action with Eivor as they discover they share a common enemy. View the full article

God of War Ragnarök is now picture-ready! With our latest update, you will now have access to the Photo Mode feature. Since the release of photo mode in God of War (2018), we’ve been continuously amazed by the amount of talent and passion in the Video Game Photographer community that has gathered to the game. From quiet moments with Kratos and Atreus, to the elegant and brutal combat shots with ice and fire flying – the range of the photographers who take shots in God of War has been a constant source of inspiration for our team. With this latest update to God of War Ragnarök, we’re happy to finally be able to give you all access to Photo Mode in this game as well! God of War Ragnarök – Photo Mode Features Apply expressions to the following characters in a scene:Kratos, Atreus, Freya, Brok, Sindri, Tyr, Angrboda, Thor, and Thrúd All images in this article captured on PS5 Hide main or side characters in a scene Adjust camera controls with:Field of ViewFocal LengthCamera Roll Adjust shutter controls with:Depth of FieldFocus DistanceF-Stop Adjust brightness and filters with:Film GrainExposureFilter Intensity, with finer controls for Vibrance and Saturation Apply vignettes, borders, and logos To get you started, we’ve asked Santa Monica Studio Photo Mode aficionado and QA Lead Tim Ward for some tips (and amazing photos)! Photo Mode Tips Adjust the Filter Intensity, Vibrance, and Saturation on your desired filter for a wider range of colors. Be sure to add a vignette when appropriate to give your shot more depth. Don’t be afraid to roll the camera a little bit, especially when shooting combat. It can make your screenshots feel more dynamic and less like the camera is always shooting from a fixed horizontal position. If you like to take vertical shots, you can roll the camera 90 degrees to give yourself the much-needed headroom. Remember, lighting is everything! Your screenshots will really pop if the subject of your shot is properly lit. Know where your light source is when entering Photo Mode to give your subject proper visibility. Take your time looking for a shot you’re happy with. A lot of times, you can enter photo mode thinking of taking a specific shot only to find something else better during that moment. Explore with the camera and move about the scene and see what jumps out at you. We can’t wait to see the photos you take in God of War Ragnarök! Make sure you share them with us by tagging us on Twitter @SonySantaMonica or using the hashtag #GodofWarRagnarok! —– For the latest updates around God of War Ragnarök, make sure you follow Santa Monica Studio on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. PlayStation players, we’ve missed you! But now the skies are calling and your story is about to begin. We’re thrilled to welcome you to Sky: Children of the Light on December 6 when the game officially launches on PlayStation! Over 15 years ago, thatgamecompany forged a formative partnership with PlayStation. Our games fl0w, Flower, and Journey each experiment with how interactive gaming can communicate at an emotional level. We were humbled by Journey’s Game of the Year recognition and the accolades these games received, but perhaps most resonant were the individual stories players sent us from all over the world sharing how our games had touched their lives. Those stories made us ask how we can all better experience compassion through play. It moved us to push farther and develop Sky, a spiritual successor to Journey that creates a place for people of all backgrounds to share emotional connection and meaningful moments with their loved ones. We are so proud of the vibrant global community that has flourished in Sky, and our players constantly amaze and inspire us! One of our community members, SADist, made an animatic that captured the heart of what a Sky player sees and feels. We made the trailer above in turn based on that animatic, and we hope it faithfully recreates what we all—player and dev alike—have seen and felt in Sky. A touching social experience Find your place in Sky through adventure, exploration, and the people you meet. Follow where birds beckon and bells ring, and seek peaceful scenery and intriguing surprises off the beaten path. Ascend through the clouds, play your own music, help out another traveler, or take the hand of a fellow Child of the Light who wants to show you their favorite shortcut. A path rises to meet everyone who enters the world of Sky. Embark on a musical voyage in the Season of AURORA Concert Music is woven through Sky, guiding and accompanying players through light and dark. It’s always been a vital part of the game, but now after 18 months of development and fine-tuning our proprietary game engine, we’re getting ready to deliver a new way for music to take our players into something more intense and powerful than what’s been done before in games: On December 8 at 8:30 pm PT, we’re premiering a concert in collaboration with Norwegian music artist AURORA! We’re opening the world’s largest performance venue for the occasion so that millions of players can take part in this musical voyage together, and we’ve saved a seat for everybody. If you’ve played Sky before, you’ve heard AURORA’s voice on our original soundtrack. She’s also best known internationally for her hits “Runaway,” “Cure for Me,” “Running with the Wolves,” and her ethereal vocals in Frozen II‘s “Into the Unknown.” Beginning on December 8, her music invites you to be transformed within Sky itself. Connect with the exuberant multitude of players from across the globe, and with AURORA as she performs songs including “Exhale Inhale,” “Runaway,” “Warrior,” and more to transport you on a journey that goes far beyond any other concert experience in a game. The concert experience isn’t limited to the set list either—the venue also has plenty to do before and after the show. Learn songs with in-game instruments (all skill levels encouraged!), meet some friendly creatures offering to take you on a tour, and find a room with a serene sound bath where AURORA herself will guide you in restorative relaxation. Everyone is welcome! No tickets, purchases, or even minimum game progress is needed. And if you miss the premiere on the 8, don’t worry—it will be available multiple times a day through January 2 2023! Celebrate the PlayStation launch with exclusive Journey cosmetics To commemorate this new launch, a specially themed Journey Pack will be offered for purchase for those joining us on PlayStation. Exclusive to PlayStation players, this bundle comes with a cape, hood, and mask, featuring carefully re-created designs that may be familiar if you’ve seen the wayfarers who once traversed desert sands. On a nostalgic note, the mask includes a unique ability: wearing it grants your Sky Child a Journey-inspired voice when you call! A place where everyone is stronger together When we first started our studio, we had little idea how much our efforts to push emotional boundaries in games would still reverberate today. We’re so excited to bring our latest adventure to the platform where we began. First we were petals in the wind, then we were wayfarers gliding over sand dunes, and now we’re soaring together through the clouds. We can’t wait to see you in the skies on December 6! Behold Fortnite in full Unreal Engine 5 With the release of the new Chapter, Fortnite Battle Royale now makes use of Unreal Engine 5’s newest, most innovative features, via Unreal Engine 5.1. Unreal Engine 5 ushers in a generational leap in visual fidelity, bringing an unprecedented level of detail to fully immersive worlds, including the Battle Royale Island. Next-gen Unreal Engine 5 features such as Nanite, Lumen, Virtual Shadow Maps, and Temporal Super Resolution are now available in Fortnite Battle Royale on PlayStation 5. Nanite, Lumen, virtual shadow maps, and temporal super resolution Nanite Nanite provides highly-detailed architectural geometry. Specifically, buildings are rendered from millions of polygons in real time, and each brick, stone, wood plank, and wall trim is modeled. Natural landscapes are highly-detailed too. Individual trees have around 300,000 polygons, and each stone, flower, and blade of grass is modeled. Lumen Lumen reflections provide high quality ray traced reflections on glossy materials and water. Lumen provides real-time global illumination at 60 FPS. You’ll see beautiful interior spaces with bounce lighting, plus characters reacting to the lighting of their surroundings. (For example, red rugs may bounce red light onto your Outfit.) Also, Outfits that have emissive (a.k.a. glowing) qualities will scatter light on nearby objects and surfaces. Virtual shadow maps Virtual Shadow Maps allow for highly detailed shadowing. Each brick, leaf, and modeled detail will cast a shadow, and character self-shadowing is extremely accurate. This means that things like hats and other small details on characters will also cast shadows. Temporal Super Resolution (TSR) Temporal Super Resolution is a replacement for Temporal Anti-Aliasing in Fortnite, and allows for high-quality visuals at a high framerate. See Fortnite Battle Royale in a new way as you venture on the new Island. View the full article
