Sony’s new PlayStation Rewards program — currently still in beta — will have a new wrinkle beginning tomorrow: Quests. Quests task PlayStation Rewards members with performing certain activities, for which they will be rewarded with progress toward Select, Pro and Legendary member status. The activities mentioned on

PlayStation Blog all seem geared toward getting players to check out various services that may be unfamiliar.

For example, the “Check Your Pulse” quest rewards players for watching an episode of Pulse on PSN, or you could play a specified PlayStation Move game to complete the “Move It” quest. And, of course, the “No Place Like Home” quest involves visiting the central plaza in PlayStation Home. The new quest system should go live in the PlayStation Rewards beta tomorrow. Nine quests will be available initially, with Sony promising more throughout the year.

Has anybody here earned anything on this program? Becasue from what I'm reading, the only way you can earn anyhthing is to spend money on new games. Not rented or used, they have to be new. It doesn't seem to make a bit of difference how much you use your PS3 and all the functions, you gotta spend money.

Sounds like a total friggin scam to me.

You don't have to buy anything. I haven't spent a single dollar, and I'm halfway through the first tier. Spending money would definitely boost you up, though. They've added quests (most are free to do), so that'll help a lot, too. And it's not really a scam if you don't buy anything in the first place; being part of PlayStation Rewards is free, lol.

OK, maybe not a scam. Because your right, it's gonna be free. But essentially the program is designed to make you spend money.

The say so right in their post:

To start off, on the subject of things that WILL get your progress meter moving, one way we recommend is by playing new games. When we say new, we do mean new – not used or borrowed, but new as in just unwrapped or freshly downloaded from the PlayStation Store.

"We recommend" is just a selling point. Like I said, I haven't spent a dollar, and I'm halfway through the first tier. There ARE ways to move up by just playing games, trophies, downloading free demos, videos, etc. But I digress. It's a program to help sell their products, I'm just doing what I've always been doing. If I get some free stuff along the way, I'll take it.
