  1. New PlayStation Move footage has arrived on the internet, showing gameplay from SOCOM 4. SOCOM 4 will be released as a Move compatible game and has been built with the Move controls in mind. Users will also have the option of using the standard DualShock controllers if they wish. PlayStation Move is out in September. Score: +1 (1 vote cast) Urgent Fury Command: More...
  2. A new multiplayer gameplay video for Twisted Metal has hit the net direct from E3 in Los Angeles. Sony announced Twisted Metal at the end of its press conference at last week. David Jaffe has long denied the game being in existence, despite the many clues which said otherwise. The action itself, which you can view below, is shot off screen; however it’s still of fairly decent quality, giving you an idea just what to expect from the game. Twisted Metal is due for release in 2011. Score: 0 (0 votes cast) Urgent Fury Command: More...

  4. Have you “herd” about the new downloadable cooperative missions coming to Red Dead Redemption tomorrow? Let Rockstar Games walk you through the new add-on coming to the wild west shooter this week, which won’t cost you a single greenback. The “Outlaws to the End” cooperative mission pack is one of three downloadable expansions Rockstar has planned for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 game, giving players six new multiplayer adventures to undertake, along with new Trophies and Achievements. It’s free, so clear some hard drive space. Score: 0 (0 votes cast) Urgent Fury Command: More...
  5. The BBC has said that the upgraded version of its iPlayer will hit PS3 soon. Speaking to TechRadar at the Facebook Developer Garage in London, BBC’s Simon Cross said that the console’s iPlayer upgrade was on the “roadmap for this year.” The upgrade will bring new functions along with it, such as a For You section which lists shows you may be interested in. There will also be social network functionality, although Cross didn’t go into further detail on that point. However, Cross also admitted that there was some indecision on how users would sign into the new app. “We don’t know whether to integrate it with the PSN signing in process or do something new,” he said. BBC iPlayer launched on the PS3 last year and has been hugely popular ever since, with 10 percent of all viewers watching videos through the system. 6. Disney and peripheral maker PDP have teamed up to release some rather unique looking controllers based on Epic Mickey and Tron. The Wii controller for Epic Mickey is shaped like a paint brush, obviously, as the whole point of the game is to go around painting the world. Those who purchase the paint brush controller will also get a statue/charger, featuring the nasty Ink Blot that Mickey battles in the game. Controllers for Tron are rather unique, and sport a blue neon light making sure you’ll never lose your Wii, Xbox 360 or PS3 peripheral should you decide to play the game in the dark. We aren’t sure if these controllers are to be released anywhere other than the US at the moment, but you could always import if you are quite taken with one. You can see the controllers for yourself below. Score: 0 (0 votes cast) Urgent Fury Command: More...
  7. Ubi’s released a video walkthrough of Driver: San Francisco, showing some of the game’s features, new and old. It starts off with a car chase between John Tanner and Jericho, which has the duo speeding through the streets knocking over garbage cans. During the scene, we also get to see the inside of the vehicle – which Edmondson said was inspired by such films as The French Connection and Bullitt. Later on, Edmondson says the whole city has 208 miles of road, making it one of the biggest driving areas in any videogame. He also chats about the new “Shift” feature, and the inclusion of 100 licensed cars. Driver: San Francisco releases this holiday season for Mac, PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. A separate Wii title is also in the works. Score: 0 (0 votes cast) Urgent Fury Command: More...
  8. Today is the day that MAG fans have been waiting for as our first major DLC, “Interdiction,” is now available for purchase from the PlayStation Store for $9.99 US (prices in other regions may vary)! If you missed our post detailing Interdiction a few weeks back, allow us to sum it up for you: MAG Interdiction is a brand new game mode built for 128 players. In it, two rival attacking factions fight to gain control of three different command posts while using armored convoys for every squad on the map (that’s right, 16 APCs onscreen at once!). To earn the victory, teams must capture and hold as many objectives as possible to increase their score while simultaneously decreasing their opponents’ score across three all-new “faction neutral” maps (Iron Creek Quarry, Lake Bayano Spur, and Sovot Motorway). In addition to the new maps and gametype, Interdiction will also include the most powerful protection in the game, the “Heavy Improved” armor set, as well as a number of new in-game ribbons, medals and trophies. Here’s a reminder of what you can expect: Ribbons Jump Start – Capture 2 Command Posts in a round of Interdiction Mowing the Grass – Get 10 kills with a vehicle turret in one round Dashed Hopes – Destroy 2 mines with gunfire in one round Cannonball Rally – Become an MVP (1st, 2nd, or 3rd) in a round of Interdiction Medals Roadside Assistance – Capture 10 Interdiction control points over your career Landscape Architect – Get 50 kills with a vehicle turret over your career BOD – Destroy 20 mines with gunfire over your career Designated Driver – Earn 5 Interdiction MVPs over your career Trophies King of the Hills (Bronze) – Earn the Roadside Assistance medal while playing Interdiction Red Ball Express (Silver) – Earn the Designated Driver medal while playing Interdiction Road Runner (Gold) – Capture 3 Interdiction control points in a single round As a special “thank you” to everyone who’s playing MAG this week, we’re also bringing back our popular “Double XP” promotion over the weekend. That means that whether you purchase our new Interdiction DLC or not, you can expect to grab twice as much experience for your battlefield efforts starting Friday, June 25 at 12:01am Pacific Time (3:01am Eastern, 7:01am GMT). Just be sure to finish any game you start in order to benefit from the additional XP, as folks who leave a game early won’t receive the bonus. Our Double XP Weekend ends on Sunday, June 27 at 11:59pm Pacific Time (2:59am Eastern, 6:59am GMT). Oh, and one final note: All MAG players will have to download a small “Interdiction Activation Patch” starting today. It’s only 4MB in size and prepares your copy of MAG to be compatible with the Interdiction game mode. Again, Interdiction itself can be downloaded later today from the PlayStation Store for $9.99 US and weighs in at 440MB. 13. Ok, here are the basics of the new premium subscription service, PlayStation Plus: Launching on the 29th of June The current PSN features will remain free. We are still very committed to PSN as a free gaming service and are certainly not planning on reducing this service following the launch of PlayStation Plus. Plus is an evolving service and the features included at launch will be: Games Discounts Exclusive items on PlayStation Store Full Game Trial Automatic Downloads (More info on these below) [*]Membership to Plus can be purchased through PlayStation Store on PS3 for either 90 days or a whole year (365 days) [*]Local prices for membership can be found below, payment is a one off fee for either of the memberships and can be purchased with any of the current Store payment methods – Credit Card or PSN Cards [*]If you sign up between the 29th June and 3rd Aug for the 1 year subscription then you will also receive a downloadable copy of the original LittleBigPlanet game for PS3, completely free! This is yours to keep and is not tied to the period of subscription Here are the features in more detail – Games & Special Offers: As a member you can expect to get your hands on at least 4 games a month at no extra charge. Each month there will be a selection of 1x PSN game, 2x minis and 1x PS One classics. A list of the games available in month 1 and 2 can be found below. You will be able to download these games during the month they are available, until the new selection replaces these. Once downloaded, these games are yours to keep and play as long as you are a member of PlayStation Plus. If your subscription lapses and then you re-subscribe the games you have already downloaded will reactivate, so you still have access to them. Additionally, if you delete one of these titles from your PS3 but decide you want to get it back then you can re-download from the Plus section of the Store if the games is still there, or, if the game has expired from the Plus section of the Store, then you can simply search for it on the Store and download it again at no extra cost. Each month there will be 2 dynamic themes, 2 premium avatars and premium game elements/add-ons for you to download and many of these will be exclusive to members only. These are yours to keep forever once you have downloaded them. Plus members will also be given exclusive PlayStation Store discounts each month that are above and beyond the current Store discounts available to everyone. These discounts will range from 20% – 50% and anything you buy with these is yours to keep and enjoy forever. Finally, wherever possible we’ll be making sure that members are included in some selected demos and beta trials early, before they go live to everyone, so you can be the one to tell all your mates about the next big game they ‘must’ get. As I mentioned, just the games themes and avatars are worth over £200* a year and with unrestricted access to 48+ games each year and all the other features, we think this service is great value for money. Full Game Trial: Each month we will be offering members the chance to download 2 full games, try them out for a period of time (1 hour unless otherwise stated). Then you will have the choice to either buy the game and carry on from where you left off, or delete the game from your hard drive. This is a unique way to trial the full game experience and means you don’t have to be restricted to certain levels/game modes when you test out a game. The games in full game trail will become available to all Store users to purchase but only Plus members will have the chance to ‘try before you buy’. The other great thing about this feature is that you can continue from where you were at the end of the trial period if you decide to buy the game. All game saves and trophies earned during the trial will be unlocked and will show up on your trophy list and your trophy level, when you purchase the game. You don’t even have to re-download the game, just purchase and go back to the XMB to access the game. Automatic Download: Members will be able to set their PS3 to wake up from standby at any time of the day or night, download and install any game updates for the games you have been playing and we will also send you new game demos that will be ready and waiting for you to play when you next use your PS3. System software updates will also download automatically (manual install still required) and then the PS3 will turn itself off again. Game updates and demos will also automatically install and the next time you turn on your PS3 you will see a brief on screen message letting you know what has been downloaded and updated. Some other answers to frequently asked questions from the last blog post - Cross-game chat is not currently included in PlayStation Plus. You need to be the master account holder on the PS3 and be over 18 to purchase a Plus membership but other accounts on that PS3 will be able to play the games you download for as long as you are a member. The 4 games you can download each month are yours to keep for as long as you are a member. Playstation Plus is for PS3 owners as membership can only be purchased on the PS3 Store. However, some of the content – minis and PSOne Classics – available each month will also be playable on your PSP if you have one. Download them on the PS3 and transfer to your PSP, or download directly from the PSP Store or Media Go for PSP. PlayStation Plus is an evolving service and we have taken on board all your comments from the previous blog post. We will be looking into these and we also welcome any other suggestions you have. 14. Ah, but there is a catch: in order to gain access to the Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days demo, you’ll have to send a message to the Kane & Lynch YouTube channel before 11am GMT on June 30 — and obviously you’ll need a YouTube account to do this. Simply put “Token Request” in the subject field and include your date of birth (another catch: gotta be 18 years or older!) and Xbox Live Gamertag in the message body and you’re good to go! This is open to residents of the UK and northern Ireland only — sorry, everybody else! Come July 1, keep an eye on your YouTube inbox for your unlock code. Oh, and take note that those who are already “friends” of the YouTube channel will get first dibs on the demo codes. Don’t have an Xbox 360? Don’t fret, because Destructoid spoke with an Eidos rep who confirmed that a “consumer demo” would be available on the PS3 and PC sometime in the future. The Xbox 360 demo is only exclusive to that platform for a limited time. Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days terrorizes Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on August 24 in North America and August 27 in Europe. 16. Deus Ex: Human Revolution is an upcoming action-RPG for the PS3 that combines ferocious first-person shooting, sneaking, and thought-provoking conversation with a huge cast of seedy characters. Deus Ex: Human Revolution serves as a prequel to Deus Ex, a critically acclaimed role-playing game that hit the PS2 in 2002. As in the original Deus Ex, DX: Human Revolution boasts a staggeringly wide range of influences: cyberpunk from Blade Runner and The Matrix, intellectual concepts borrowed from philosophers such as Michel Foucault, and conspiracy theories ranging from The Illuminati to Area 51 to the Knights Templar. Set in 2027, DX: Human Revolution follows the same spiritual path as its predecessor. The world is literally falling apart at the seams, a murky mish-mash of unchecked technological advancement, crumbling social structures, and widespread bureaucratic corruption. You play as Adam Jensen, a security specialist for a cybernetic technology corporation, who is implanted with state-of-the-art bio-augmentations following a violent attack on his employer. Now Jensen is tasked with tracking down the group responsible for the attack. And he uncovers, uh, a lot more than he bargained for. Seen in early form on the PS3 at E3, DX: Human Revolution’s environments pop with detail. I spotted towering LED signs, sprawling trans-urban skylines, shimmering laser displays, and rain-slicked streets, topped off with a thick haze of grit and smoke. The non-player characters that populate Shanghai are more than a mere window dressing — they go about their daily routines, offer clues or side-quests, and throw their hands in the air if you draw a weapon. Your interactions with them are also varied: you’re able to browbeat, sweet talk, or lecture them using dialog options such as “Advise” and “Insist.” This allows for a wide variety of approaches to each conversation, meaning that your ability to read your subject’s reactions and react accordingly will be as valuable as your trigger finger. When it comes to nuts-and-bolts combat, though, DX: Human Revolution is packed with options. If you prefer the non-lethal approach, you’ll be able to sneak past enemies or knock them unconscious. If you prefer bloody-bones butchery, you’ll find plenty of outlets for violence. Jensen’s augmented body is studded with knives, concussion grenades, and other tools of destruction, and you’ll have access to a wide range of high-tech guns. You’ll also find many ways to upgrade your physical augmentations, from enhancing your hacking ability to using an invisibility cloak to adding heat-seeking capability to your rocket launcher. Depending on which upgrades you choose, your game experience could be radically different. Boosting your physical strength, for instance, doesn’t only enable massive melee damage — it enables you to move large objects that might help you avoid a fight altogether. 18. With the future of Modern Warfare unclear, Infinity Ward respawning and Medal of Honor back in the game, Treyarch has thrown down the gauntlet to rivals, stating that Call of Duty: Black Ops “will be the best Call of Duty in the franchise”. The confident words came from Treyarch community manager Josh Olin, speaking to Eurogamer TV in an interview you can watch below. Olin pointed to the fact that Treyarch had employed separate teams for “the core pillars”, multiplayer, co-op and single-player. “It’s kind of like three games being developed at once,” he said. The fallout from Activision’s public spat with Infinity Ward’s former studio heads, who subsequently set up new studio Respawn with other ex-staff, has cast a cloud of uncertainty over the future of the biggest franchise in gaming. But Olin insisted it has not affected development of Black Ops. “The Infinity Ward situation is unfortunate, but we’re not letting it distract us,” he said. 19. There have been so many updates and changes to Modern Warfare in the past. Some include the ridding of the Javelin glitch, the care package glitch, the introduction to 1st person Tactical, and the ridding of 3rd person cage match. First of all, why in the world did they make 3rd person cagematch in the first place? That’s just screaming an invitation for boosting. At least, in my opinion, it should have been first person, rather than ridding of*it on the whole. Infinity Ward did a good thing ridding boosters, huh? NO. Well, I don’t know what was going through IW’s mind in creating a “Barebones Pro” game mode. It allows for 4-8 players*to partake in Team Deathmatch and Free for all. The problem is, with this new game mode, a minimum of 4 players can freely boost or play ranked private matches with each other. What a way to eliminate boosting, eh? Well, either way, this game mode eliminates killstreaks in the process. With this, there is no air support to be worried about whatsoever. Another problem, however is the abundance of “Noob tubes” and rocket launchers. The first I’d played today included both of these on one team. Also, they got smart and combined danger close to their classes. An instant recipe for disaster. Well, either way, this new mode seems to be very unpopular, for me and my friends played free-for-alls with each other to test who’s the best, really. It’s a fun mode and all, but no one seems to really like it. No one has the guts to get rid of their killstreaks. Though it is a pretty foolish addition to Modern Warfare, it still can serve to be fun. To be very blunt and honest, me and my buddies like the fact that a ranked private match is available. We’d do things like shotguns only, no scoping and quickscoping only, knives only, and things of the sort. In my opinion, Infinity Ward should just make these modes available in their own separate lobbies. But then again, this mode accomodates for those who like improvising with their party-mates. In the end, Barebones Pro (and Objective Barebones Pro) seem to be an interesting addition. Though it does add the unfortunate idea of boosting, it at least doesn’t promote 10th prestige hackers. So that’s the lesser of 2 evils, I guess. (Like they really would promote that) But in a sense, if people have to boost, they get discouraged from prestige hacking and things of that sort.* It shows that people still want to put SOME effort into leveling up. (Though it is among the worst ways to do so) I’d recommend this game mode for those who want to earn experience and mess around. It’s much more innovative to play and earn experience by fighting against your familiars instead of repeatedly getting spawn raped by strangers who spend their whole lives playing this game. It also adds more freedom in game choice as well. So that’s another plus. Either way, decide whether this mode is good for you and base it on your thoughts. Happy gaming! 23. Hulu Plus has been confirmed for PS3 and Xbox 360 via Hulu’s official site. Looks as though Sony got its claws in first. The service will run you $10 per month, and is already available for iPhone and iPad, with PS3 getting it in July. Internet-enabled televisions and Blu-ray will get the service in the fall, and it’s coming to Xbox 360 in early 2011. Microsoft said the reason for the 360 delay was due to a “customized experience” being created for the service via Xbox Live. “We are taking the time to ensure that the Hulu Plus experience for Xbox 360 is the best on TV,” said Major Nelson in a statement, “and like our other entertainment experiences, it will not be a port, but rather a custom experience that leverages the Xbox Live*community features”. An official response from Microsoft added that Hulu Plus works with Kinect for a controller-free experience, and it will incorporate Xbox Live Parties so you can watch shows with friends “no matter where they are”, with more details to be announced at a later time. Hulu Plus will be available for US Xbox Live Gold Members only. Meanwhile, Sony has confirmed to VG247 that Hulu Plus will be coming soon to PS3, and that more specific information would be announced “shortly”. Hulu was rumored for Xbox 360 earlier in the month, while word that the service was to be added to PS3 hit last week. The official site has a guided tour here. While you are at it, you can request an invitation for a service preview. Full current seasons available through Hulu Plus include: 24 30 Rock American Dad! Saturday Night Live Supernanny The Office The Pretender The X-Files Ugly Betty What About Brian Update: Sony has been coy on whether Hulu Plus would be available only to PlayStation Plus subscribers. There may be a reason for that. A $170 reason. The guys at Technologizer have found that in the source code for Hulu Plus’ “devices” page, you can find the following point: “The instructions below will help you install Hulu Plus on your PS3. Note: you must be a subscriber of the Playstation Plus Network.” It’s not displayed on the actual page, but as you can see below, it’s definitely in the code (or at least was at time of publishing). While this isn’t official confirmation from either Sony or Hulu, it doesn’t look like a typo or slip of the tongue, either. Assuming this is true, if Hulu on your TV was a driving force behind you subscribing to PlayStation Plus, it would cost you $170 a year for the privilege ($50 for PS+, $10 a month for twelve months of Hulu Plus). That’s crazy. If you were signing up to PlayStation Plus anyways, knock yourself out, but this is hardly an enticing way to “build value”. Course, this craziness isn’t specific to Sony’s console. It’s bound to be repeated all over again next year when the service becomes available on the Xbox 360, as it will definitely require an Xbox Live Gold subscription. 24. The psychological horror series Silent Hill appears to be on a return to its roots with the next entry, a dark, stormy and flashlight-lit scarefest that’s very different from the more cerebral and most recent entry, Silent Hill: Shattered Memories. The Silent Hill trademarks are intact in this E3 trailer, with a town that transforms from dilapidated, monster-filled hellhole to a rusted, metallic monster-filled hellhole. Even the prison jumpsuits transform in the game they’re still calling Silent Hill 8. Developer Vatra Games and Konami are promising the next Silent Hill game will hit the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 sometime in 2011, telling the sad story of one Murphy Pendleton.
