I tried to attach an external hard drive. It was a no go, didn't even recognize it. Not sure if the hard drive has to be formatted a certain way or not.
I have a Western Digital 160gb external hard drive and I have no problems with the PS3 recognizing it!
Maybe it's the size of my 2 1TB drives that's the problem. My PS3 will only recognise my usb drives.
For the ps3 to recognize your external hd it has to be formatted in fat32 western digital comes formatted fat32 alot of other brands come as ntsf, windows cannot reformat a drive that big for some reason into fat 32 but there is a program called swissknife that will do it for you http://download.cnet.com/1770-20_4-0.html?query=swisknife&tag=srch&searchtype=downloads&filterName=platform%3DWindows%2CWebware&filter=platform%3DWindows%2CWebware hope this helps also once reformatted you have to create a folder called Video and one called picture i believe for it to be recognized..... you can also copy something off of your ps3 hd to your external and it will create the folder for you! Hope this helps
fat32 biggest chunks are 4 gig
