My name is Ryota Matsushita, and I’m the director of Koei Tecmo’s upcoming action-RPG, Fate/Samurai Remnant. The Fate series tells the story of the Holy Grail War, in which seven Masters summon Servants — historic Heroic Spirits from the East and West — to battle over the Holy Grail, a magical object that can grant any wish. The original story became a huge hit in Japan as an adventure game, and has since been adapted into an animated TV series and movie series, with the stories of the characters whose fate is affected by the Holy Grail War depicted in each work gaining a strong following. The latest title in the series, Fate/Samurai Remnant, is set in 17th century Japan, and involves players fighting in a new Holy Grail War –the Waxing Moon Ritual – as a Master, the samurai Miyamoto Iori. Play Video A Holy Grail War full of secrets and unpredictability Fate is a series that requires some creativity when introducing its appeal to friends, especially if you want to avoid spoilers, as the secrets that color the story are themselves a part of its charm. First of all, each Servant is not known by their actual name. This is because each Servant is a renowned historical figure, and if their true identity were to be known by the enemy, their anecdotes would reveal their battle style and weaknesses. Their battles are also not fought fair and square in a Colosseum, with the right to participate unfairly taken away from the participants after a succession of unfair developments unfold, involving conspiracy and deceit! In Fate/Samurai Remnant, the protagonist, Miyamoto Iori, is caught up in such an unfair battle against his own will. Iori is attacked in the middle of the night at his home by Rider, a participant in the ritual, and is nearly killed in the first battle. He then summons a Saber class Servant. Buddy actions between Master and Servant The game progresses through battle and exploration sections from Iori’s point of view, with Saber following alongside. Iori is a master of swordsmanship who is also capable of using fire magic. However, even Iori’s sword and magic are no match for the Servants and the monsters that appear under the influence of the Waxing Moon Ritual (many of which take the form of traditional Japanese monsters). In order to counter their unrealistic power, it is necessary to borrow the tremendous strength of his Servant. With a single swing, Saber can blast away legions of monsters and push away enemy Servants with the force of their violent water currents. Saber is a selfish, free-spirited fighting genius who will watch over you from a subtle distance while Iori is fighting enemies. But if you are in a pinch, Saber will quickly intervene and help you out. In the midst of a fierce battle with the enemy, Saber shouts, “Iori, now! Come here!” This is a signal for the two of them to cooperate in unleashing their techniques. Taking Saber’s hand, you can use a variety of Link Strikes–such as launching an aerial blow that blasts Iori with a stream of water, or riding Saber’s sword together and charging at the enemy on a magic jet ski. The combined attacks can also be triggered by Iori calling out for Saber’s help. These techniques, called Affinity Techniques, can be released at any time by consuming the Affinity Gauge through command operations, and can be incorporated into combos. A samurai town where Masters and Servants reside As the name suggests, the Affinity Gauge is a power that is charged by the affinity between Saber and Iori, and it can be accumulated not only through their battles together, but also in the exploration part of the game. While Saber acts like a ruthless fighting machine in most instances, they are also very interested in the unfamiliar culture and lifestyle of 17th century Japan. Iori acts as a sightseeing guide, introducing all the new sights and food stalls. But that’s not all, as there are cats and dogs throughout the towns. Not only are the pets adorable, but they are also healing spots for the two main characters. The talking magic book Need help learning technical terms or Fate history? Time to consult the Crimson Codex, a talking magic book will help you with characters, historical terminology, game guides, and even GPS navigation if you need it. Fate/Samurai Remnant hits stores September 29 on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. Do you have what it takes to survive the Holy Grail War? You won’t believe where Iori and Saber’s wishes take them. Greetings everyone! I’m Jovan, Technical Artist at Ebb Software. The whole team here found joy in bringing you nightmarish experiences that will fully immerse you into somber tapestries. And today we’re excited to reveal that our first game, Scorn, will come to Playstation 5 later this year. Play Video Many of you here may be new to Scorn, so for those less familiar with the game, you are about to experience a horrific adventure like no other. Trapped and stranded in a strange biomechanical world, you must make your way through a civilization in decay, now inhabited with twisted and grotesque creatures. While you will be able to wield various weapons in the game, Scorn is not a shooter, and each encounter can quickly turn deadly. Ammo and life are scarce, and your wits will often advise you to avoid direct confrontation. Instead, to progress through this mesmerizing labyrinth, you will have to revive and activate abandoned contraptions, part machine, part flesh, all horror. We like to compare it to the experience of a nightmare. Most often, nightmares are described as strong subjective experiences that can be intensely distressing and frightening, eliciting emotional responses in dreamers, and causing feelings of fear, anxiety, and terror. Scorn tries to offer these emotions to its players in a very subtle manner through a somber atmosphere and its gloomy corridors. Immersive power of PS5 As we were developing the game for PlayStation 5, we finally had the opportunity to tap into the potential of the DualSense wireless controller to immerse you even further in this twisted world, extending the synesthetic experience of Scorn. It allows us to deepen the player’s immersion and to let the whole world “breathe” in a new way. Since there is no spoken dialogue in the game, we have put a strong emphasis on environmental storytelling, hence haptics are a great addition to this peculiar audio-visual experience. The main character in the game interacts with the world mostly by using his hands. Most of these interactions are also painful for the character. That’s where haptics comes into play. The imagery offered to the player’s eyes is painful by itself, but we wanted to increase this feeling by giving a sensation to the hands holding the controller. Players are also able to feel the directions of haptics (left or right hand), further adding to the experience. From the smallest interaction, such as feeling the low rumble of an organic head-mounted display to the situations in which players find themselves in dire and dangerous encounters, the DualSense controller haptics elevate the feeling of immersion by balancing the intensity of vibration according to in-game sounds. We have also made immersive use of the DualSense controller adaptive triggers when the player needs to use tools and weapons to survive. Every weapon or tool has a subtle, but different feeling of weight. For example, the piston-like melee tool, used to operate different contraptions, and occasionally in desperate attempts of self-defense, has a specific resistance in the trigger that when used alongside the haptics, enhances the desired effect. Finally, the DualSense controller light bar represents the health of the player, changing colors in appropriate situations. It is a small addition to the otherwise very minimalistic HUD in Scorn. The idea is that a player can get a piece of immediate information on their HP status while playing the game. Balancing the DualSense controller features was not an easy task but with coordination between TechArt, Programming, and Audio teams, we have successfully pulled it through and made something special for PlayStation 5 players. We are also very proud to announce that following popular demand, a physical version of the game will be available at the same time as the digital version, including a digital artbook, digital version of the Original Soundtrack composed by Aethek & Lustmord, and, only available at selected retailers, an exclusive SteelBook: We can’t wait for all PlayStation fans to delve into our mesmerizing world later this year. Stay tuned for more information! View the full article

Baldur’s Gate 3 is a big RPG. A great, big, uncompromising RPG! It shows in the numbers: more than 170 hours of cinematics and featuring three times more cinematic dialogue than all three The Lord of the Rings novels combined, a library of more than 600 spells and actions, and plenty more. Dungeons & Dragons is all about player freedom – the freedom to define your character, to explore vast territories with your allies, and decide the fate of the world. We’ve spent the last six years bringing the unlimited freedom D&D is known for into the realm of video games. We’ve written two-million words of dialogue across the thousands of characters that populate the world of Faerûn, with an exhilarating story and in-depth character creation that puts you at the helm of the adventure. The dice may define your luck, but you define the story. Originally due to launch on August 31, we’ve decided to release Baldur’s Gate 3 for PS5 on September 6. This brief delay allows us more time to achieve our ambition of 60 frames per second, thanks to the power of PlayStation 5. For those of you who purchased our gigantic Collector’s Edition (limited stock still available), don’t worry, we’ve got your back. We’ll be emailing you codes so you can jump in on September 3, at the start of the September 3 72-hour Early Access period that comes with the Deluxe Edition. We’ve talked about how Baldur’s Gate 3 is an ambitious game, so let’s take a look at some of the features you can expect when it launches on September 6, or for those of you with the Deluxe Edition, September 3. Create a character who looks like you, or make something completely different Whether you have the stature of a gnome or the muscle tone of a half-orc, it all begins with a hero. Character creation is such a central part of D&D, and in Baldur’s Gate 3, we wanted players to experience the same kind of freedom when shaping their own identity. Who you are, what you look like, and how you want to play is up to you. Define your body type, your age, and looks – right down to the highlights in your hair. Baldur’s Mouth will be writing about you, so it’s important you make a bold impression. You steer the adventure. Well, a version of you based on your choice of Human, Dwarf, Githyanki, Elf, Drow, Tiefling, Halfling, Half-Elf, Gnome, Half-Orc, or Dragonborn. But how you appear doesn’t define who you are. That’s why we’ve 12 classes from D&D, including Barbarian, Bard, Cleric, Druid, Fighter, Monk, Paladin, Ranger, Rogue, Sorcerer, Warlock, and Wizard, with a total of 46 subclasses between them for some extra spice and specialization. Or should you not want to choose, you can create a hybrid class through Multiclassing. Get as macro or as micro as you like. Friends, lovers, and enemies Whether exploring Faerûn with your companions in single-player or playing with friends in split-screen multiplayer, your story is shaped by the company you keep, the bonds you forge, and the enemies you make along the way. On your long rests between battles and quests, you’ll make camp with others who have undergone the unfortunate process of tadpole insertion into their brains. While Baldur’s Gate 3 offers in-depth character customisation, you can also play as an Origin character: authored, playable protagonists each with their own stories, desires, and alignments. You don’t have to play as an Origin to enjoy their story and companionship; you may also recruit Origin characters into your party. You may meet others on your journey that can be of help to you; some new friends, and some familiar faces. From the fires of Avernus Karlach is an example of an Origin character, who (if not played) can be recruited into your party. With a giant battleaxe in hand, this battle-worn tiefling barbarian packs a mean blow. Some say it’s her years of experience on the scorched battlefields of the Blood War. It could also be the unholy machine that pumps hellish fire through her veins, a gift from the archdevil she once served. But be careful – if she gets too worked up, she could destroy anything she touches, and that includes you. Like a cast die, every decision you make in Baldur’s Gate 3 has the potential to alter the course of your story. As you create your legacy, the people of Faerûn take note of your actions, chart your adventure, and make their own judgements based on their own inclinations and expectations. The decisions you make in-game have far-reaching near and long-term effects – but every choice you make is valid; it’s your story. Unless you die. Whatever you did then was probably a bad idea. These decisions also affect your relationships with your companions. Whether it’s an impish vampire spawn or a beefy archdruid in the middle of a wild shape transformation, in Baldur’s Gate 3 you can romance almost all of your camp companions. And, depending on how you interact with them, you may see different romance scenes for several of these characters during your replays. Relationships in Baldur’s Gate 3 develop and blossom, or grow sour and dwindle just as in real life. They require maintenance, and are based on genuine admiration from the perspective of each character’s general point of view about the world, and your actions within it. The dating world in Baldur’s Gate 3 is your oyster. It is what you make it… well, give or take a few dice rolls. But we’ll leave some of the more intriguing visuals for Panel From Hell: Release Showcase, which is airing July 7 – where you’ll also have the chance to meet our seventh and final Origin character.
