It’s good to be back in the Zone! I’m Blake from Ironwood Studios, and I’m here to show you a little more of what’s happening out in the wilderness of Pacific Drive. Life inside the wall is extremely dangerous, you’ll have to rely on a trusty station wagon when you venture out from the old auto shop. Be sure to fill up on gas before you head out on each trip into the Zone: letting your tank run dry out there is a good way to meet a bad end. Explore twisted landscapes and long-abandoned facilities as you scrap and scrounge for resources to keep your car running long enough to make a safe return. Make it back in one piece and use your haul of collected materials to repair and upgrade your wagon before you head back out for more. Play Video As shown in our newest trailer, you’ll encounter all sorts of strange Anomalies, most of which aren’t too friendly. There are warped towers that arc out heavy bolts of electricity at anything that accidentally wanders too close, and underground hunks of metal ripping across the ground, shredding both earth and your tires. When collecting supplies you’ll want to stay close to your car, one of those menacing flying junk piles could sneak away with it without you noticing. You’ll need to closely observe and understand these Anomalies to figure out what you need to build to survive the next encounter. Kit out your car with gear to resist their attempts at ending your runs, and upgrade car panels from bare sheet metal all the way up to specialized armor plates that protect against the worst of the Zone’s elements. When it comes to modifying your car, it’s not just about the fortifications. Add new racks to your car and strap them down with extra gear for the road: fuel tanks, wind-power generators, and automatic parking brakes. You’ll want every little edge you can get when you’re out in the Zone. Everyone needs extra space to store their junk on the roof rack, but you can also mount a controllable spotlight, a lightning rod to keep your battery charged when it gets a little extra stormy, or classified gadgets based on the experimental tech you find out on your runs. As you chart the Zone, each expedition brings you deeper and deeper behind the walls. Your journeys will take you across challenging terrain, each area home to its own suite of nightmarish Anomalies. With these new risks come new rewards: certain resources can only be found in dangerous places. Just make sure your car is equipped for the task: if you’re heading into the muck of the marshes, you’ll want to change to some wheels that can handle mud and water. If you’ve got to cross an eternally-dark valley, some roof-mounted lights to illuminate the way forward are going to be pretty important. And if you’re like me, maybe you find yourself getting caught by lightning a few times too often – a high-tech engine upgrade solves that ‘can’t get out of here fast enough’ problem pretty quick. Speaking of terrible weather and strange cataclysmic events in the Zone, we need to talk about the Zone Storms. These sweeping maelstroms rip apart the map, re-shaping the wilderness, and doing massive damage to anything (or anyone) caught out in them. Radiation is a common concern while trundling through the forest but once a full-force Zone Storm hits, it’s better to try and outrun it completely than to be blasting through the trees, hoping your car holds up as you watch your dashboard melt to pieces around you. Keep that gas pedal floored and the car pointed at the Gateway—each successful return is one step closer to escaping the Zone. Scavenge resources, explore abandoned facilities, upgrade your garage and your ride — then go deeper into the wilderness to solve the mysteries and urban legends of the Zone. The utopian hope of strange new technologies might be gone, but their remnants still linger. Pacific Drive is coming to PlayStation 5 in 2023. View the full article

Hello all, I’m Jae Yoo, Game Director of Eternights and Founder of Studio Sai. Since our reveal last year, we’ve been putting in a lot of hard work and have much to share with you. As you may know, Eternights is a unique blend of dating and action where players can explore a post-apocalyptic world filled with danger, love, and adventure. The game combines a thrilling romance storyline with intense combat, providing players with a thrilling and memorable gaming experience. Play Video The dating-action game where you can fall in love in the most unlikely of places: the end of the world. Changes made to Eternights since it was first announced last year Since our June 2022 reveal, we’ve made a plethora of updates to Eternights, but unfortunately, we can’t mention them all as the list is quite extensive. The most important aspect we focused on was enhancing the overall gameplay flow and immersion, so players can truly lose themselves in the characters and story of the game. We want people to feel like they are living in the game world and experiencing the story for themselves. Towards that goal, we have made a concerted effort to improve the user interface, making it more intuitive and cohesive. Another key aspect of this is the revamp of deadlines for completing dungeons, which emphasizes the importance of time management. To further enhance this feeling of urgency, we have devoted significant resources to the design and implementation of the in-game calendar and deadline interface. This allows players to easily track and manage their progress and adds an additional layer of tension and excitement to the game. We have put a lot of effort into the dialogue UI to ensure it is seamlessly integrated with the overall world of Eternights, enhancing the player’s immersion in the game. Eternights features fast-paced, real-time combat with a variety of options such as Elemental Attacks, Perfect Dodges, Parries, Special Skills, and Confidant Combat Skills, which can be overwhelming for players. So the team put a lot of effort into improving the user interface during combat to make it more fluid and intuitive, allowing players to focus more on the narrative and story of the game. We have also made significant updates to the environment and level design of Eternights to provide players with more compelling reasons to explore the dungeons with their beloved confidants. The game world is detailed and diverse, with new areas to discover, enemies to defeat, and challenges to overcome. The level design has been crafted to create a sense of exploration and adventure, encouraging players to explore further in the game’s world. In addition to gameplay and UI improvements, we have also made major updates to characters, the main storyline, combat and minigames. These updates provide players a more engaging and dynamic gaming experience, with new challenges and opportunities to explore both the characters and world of Eternights. One of the most exciting updates we’ve made is the addition of Japanese and Korean voices to the game. This will allow players to experience the story in their preferred language. In the near future, we will announce the Japanese voice actors that have agreed to lend their unique energy and talents to the game. We can’t say much, other than they are well known figures in the anime industry, who have already lent their voices to other beloved characters. Eternights is coming to PS5 and PS4 this summer, and we hope that you enjoyed all the updates and improvements we’ve made to the game. The team has worked hard to create a unique and engaging world, and we can’t wait for you to dive into the world of Eternights and experience it for yourself. View the full article

Until last year, I had been toiling away in obscurity on a game about exploration, mystery, and animals for four years. After announcing Animal Well on PlayStation Blog and then showing it at Day of the Devs during Summer Game Fest, I’m still toiling away, but in somewhat less obscurity. When Dunkey announced that his new indie games publishing label Bigmode would be publishing my passion project, something only my parents and close friends knew about, it went to the top of many people’s most anticipated games lists. It’s time to give a status update on how the game is coming along and introduce it properly to people who have only recently learned about its existence, including (and especially) those learning about it for the first time while reading this post. Today I’m excited to share a new look at Animal Well with a trailer showcasing some exciting gameplay moments. In the new video, keep an eye out for the updated hanging vines, which now swing in a satisfying way as you push through them. You can also catch a glimpse of one of the many unconventional ways the game’s items can be used, as well as more examples of how you can interact with the well’s animals. These elements are some of the most defining features of Animal Well, as many surprising animal interactions and item uses are in the game. Play Video An origin story In a way, it feels like all the scattered interests and hobbies I’ve pursued throughout my life was contributing to the skills necessary to release this game. I enjoyed building things, drawing, and playing piano as a child. I envisioned myself growing up as a cartoonist or a veterinarian. In high school I explored filmmaking and animation while becoming increasingly interested in computers. I later went to film school, but I began learning to code in my spare time. Various interests came and went, but the one that remained consistent through it all was a deep fascination with video games. They were utter magic to me, and I loved them as far back as I can remember. It wasn’t until after I graduated that I realized all my hobbies were just an attempt to understand some individual aspect of their creation. I was zoomed in on the details, unaware of the larger picture. Holiday 2006 I had saved up enough money from working at Blockbuster video and managed to find a PS3 during launch. Here is its box posed in various places around my parents’ house After finding this clarity, I quickly realized that games were incredibly difficult to make alone. I spent the next ten years working at various game studios learning as much as possible about the process. Animal Well is my attempt to fully understand what it takes to make a game from start to finish: from a flashing cursor in a blank IDE window to a complete game. I also made the task extra challenging for myself by forgoing the use of any middleware or off the shelf engines. Not that there’s anything wrong with games that use those tools. It’s just that if I did, I would still have a lot of unanswered questions. What is an Animal Well anyway? Animal Well is all about exploring a mysterious world. You hatch from a flower and are left to make sense of your surroundings in whichever way you see fit. The world exists for the benefit of the many creatures that live in it, whether they be dogs, mice, kangaroos, capybaras, or chinchillas. It’s not that you’re not welcome there. It’s just that they were here first. Some of the animals can be quite friendly, and others hostile. None of them are your enemies, and none are your friends. They respond to their environment in ways that make sense to them. You may have to work with them or work your way around them to get where you want to go. You may discover some items you use can help navigate the world. You may find some hidden passageways and secret paths that open up entirely new areas to explore. There will be puzzles to solve and platforming challenges to overcome along the way, with some not immediately obvious. How development is going It’s been great. I’ve made more progress on adding content to the game in the last year than in the previous two before that. My engine and level editor have mainly been complete for a while (though I keep adding features as I think of new things I want it to do), so adding content has been fast. One of my biggest design goals is ensuring that every part of the game is intentional and doesn’t feel tacked on or bloated. As much as I’m adding new content, I keep going back and iterating on the existing content—thinking through what items a player might have when they reach a certain point, which entrances to the room they might come in, and the overall difficulty curve from start to finish. Build, build, build, polish, polish, polish. I recognize that many players will approach the game with different expectations. Some will want to play through the game and get to the end. This group will want to have a great time in every new room they encounter. Others will want to take their time and explore every nook and cranny. They’ll poke around looking for secrets and delight in looking at all the details hidden in the rooms to see if they can find something that someone else might blithely walk past. And others will obsess about the relationships among certain rooms and what details in one might tell you about another. This group will try to squeeze out every last drop of the game. As I design the game, I’m keeping all three audiences in mind to ensure each one gets out of Animal Well what they’re expecting, and hopefully more. I’m not quite ready to announce a release date yet but assure everyone I’m hard at work making Animal Well the best it can be. I hope everyone agrees that it’s been worth the wait. PixelJunk is back on PlayStation! I’m Dylan Cuthbert, founder of indie studio Q-Games, and I’m delighted to share that our frantic party-brawler, PixelJunk Scrappers Deluxe, is coming to PlayStation. The game will launch later this year on both PS5 and PS4, and we can’t wait to share what we’ve been working on. The PixelJunk series of games recently celebrated its 15th anniversary. We’re excited to be returning to PixelJunk’s spiritual home on PlayStation with a brand-new entry in the series. We’ve got our first trailer to share alongside a deep dive into what you can expect when we launch, so let’s get into it. Play Video Slam dunk the junk PixelJunk Scrappers Deluxe combines the nostalgic excitement of traditional arcade brawlers with the multiplayer madness of couch co-op classics for a real hybrid experience. It’s a beat ‘em up that’s also a clean ‘em up, with a focus on cleaning up the streets of Junktown. Both literally, by stacking trash, and figuratively, by wiping out waves of enemy robots. Trash means cash on these streets, and your bounty increases with the more items (and scrapped enemies) you throw into the back of your garbage truck. We set out to create a fun gameplay fusion that’s easy to pick up and play, yet challenging to master. It takes serious skills to overcome the baddest of trash bots in PixelJunk Scrappers Deluxe. You can choose to play with help from our AI helper bot, S.C.R.A.P., or share the fun with up to four players locally or online with cross-platform play. As you progress, you’ll scrap with giant enemies, stack garbage sky-high, and trash talk your friends along the way. From collaborative missions to head-to-head challenges, minigames to boss battles, no two trips to Junktown are ever the same. There’s also a ton of weapons to discover, a wide roster of Scrappers to recruit, and over 100 unique truck parts to unlock. Clean up the streets of Junktown The Q-Games studio has resided in Kyoto for over 22 years, so it was an absolute joy to take inspiration from our favorite places and traditions and see them reflected in the cyberpunk streets in-game. There are over 25 levels to explore across 5 jam-packed regions of Junktown, each inspired by Japan’s eclectic sights and sounds. The fourth area of the world map is Kawaii Kyoto, and we really went to town to pay homage to some of our treasured local spots and traditions from across the wider region. From the bamboo forests of Arashiyama to trash bots inspired by the traditional Japanese Awa dance, the world’s design means a lot to us, and we hope you enjoy exploring it as much as we enjoyed bringing it to life. From everyone here at Q-Games, we look forward to welcoming you to Junktown to help us to clean up the streets when PixelJunk Scrappers Deluxe launches on PlayStation later this year. Let’s go Scrappers! View the full article
