Hello Wayfinders! We are thrilled to partner with PlayStation to bring Wayfinder exclusively to Early Access on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. Season 1 of Early Access begins in May 2023, and our Founders Pack Program comes with it. Want to jump into the world of Evenor before that? Our next Beta playtest starts on February 28, 2023 for PS5 players with our final Closed playtest in March for PS4 and PS5, so make sure you’re signed up on the official Wayfinder website for a chance to get in. In case you missed our reveal at The Game Awards, let’s bring you up to speed! Wayfinder is a character-based, online action-RPG that takes place in a shared online world that we call Evenor. Evenor has been shattered by a destructive and chaotic force called The Gloom and you must harness the power of a Wayfinder to control the Chaos. You’ll join forces with friends to strengthen your powers and embark on endless adventures as you discover Evenor, Lost Zones, and resources to craft new items, weapons and Wayfinders. Adventures start in Skylight, the game’s social space and Evenor’s last Beacon of hope. Here you’ll be able to recruit other players, visit your apartment, and craft new gear and Wayfinders you’ve rescued from the Gloom to play for the journey ahead. Leaving Skylight, you’ll quickly encounter public events and world bosses waiting to be taken down. The Highlands is a large, open space zone filled with other Wayfinders. You’ll make new friends while completing quests, fighting world bosses, and gathering resources. You can unlock Early Access through our Founder’s Pack Program, kicking off in May. The Founder’s Pack Program is our way of putting together the final building blocks of the game in cooperation with our most dedicated supporters and rewarding them not only with Early Access to the game, but also with unique and valuable items that will never be able to be obtained in-game again. Multiple tiers will be available, with each tier including exclusive cosmetics, pets, mounts, and more. Look for even more details on this and Early Access as we get closer to the Spring! At today’s Sony State of Play, we revealed not only our first look at 4-player co-op gameplay for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, but also shared our first behind the scenes look at the game. We really hope you’ve enjoyed hearing about the game direct from the Rocksteady team in our own words. This is just a brief glimpse at what’s in store for our players in the months ahead. Play Video A gameplay experience for everyone In the section of gameplay we showed, the Suicide Squad face off against waves of Brainiac’s corrupted soldiers to take down a huge artillery gun that has been phased into Earth from… somewhere. With their unique traversal abilities, gunplay, melee, tactics, and teamwork, they must use the chaos to their advantage and succeed in their own style. The result? A fluid combat and traversal system unique to each villain’s violent tastes. Whether you want to jump to the top of a building in a single leap as King Shark or speed force to your trusty boomerang as Captain Boomerang, each playable character delivers unique skills and abilities tailored to them. Play Video Get a deeper look at the game If you want an even closer look into the world of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, then come and meet the team in our behind the scenes featurette that takes us, and the Squad, out of Arkham Asylum, and into DC’s “City of Tomorrow”, Metropolis. With Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, we want to create a game where the city itself becomes part of the combat. In order to do this, we knew we had to make our biggest map yet — Metropolis is more than twice the size of Batman: Arkham Knight’s Gotham, but it’s not just about size: we’ve put the detail and personality in our world that we think makes it feel alive, and that players expect from us. Each member of our Suicide Squad has a unique method of traversing around and exploring this city, and with 1-to-4-player gameplay options and skill trees for each character, you’re able to play how you want, when you want. So much more on the horizon There’s so much more to share for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League in the months ahead, and we can’t wait to watch players jump into our vision of Metropolis when the game launches! We’re Larian Studios, developers of Divinity: Original Sin 2 and Baldur’s Gate 3, and we’re proud to bring you the news that Baldur’s Gate 3 is coming to PS5 on August 31, 2023! Play Video The land of Faerûn is under siege by a hostile and otherworldly force known as mind flayers. Their army expands with every brain they infect with parasitic tadpoles, a creature that now wriggles deep within your own mind. You are becoming one of them: a monster feared across many worlds. But as their corruption grows within you, so do mysterious new powers. Baldur’s Gate 3 is a next-generation cinematic RPG set in the Forgotten Realms. It’s a true Dungeons & Dragons experience in video game form, and the long-awaited third installment in the Baldur’s Gate series. Whether you’ve been waiting for this game for 20+ years or the previous sentence is a mystery to you, adventure awaits you in Baldur’s Gate 3’s tale of fellowship and betrayal, sacrifice and survival, and the lure of absolute power. Create a character of your own or play as one of a dream-team of handcrafted Origin characters, each with their own unique traits, agenda, and outlook on the world. Their stories intersect with the entire narrative, and your choices will determine whether those stories end in redemption, salvation, domination, or many other outcomes. Caption: An example of the different races you can select in the character creation. Baldur’s Gate 3 is our biggest cinematic storytelling epic yet, and it’s designed to be played solo or with friends. With split-screen co-op for up to two players on one PS5, or as up to four players online, you and your chosen allies can combine forces in combat or split up to follow your own quests and agendas. Concoct the perfect plan together…or introduce an element of chaos when your friends least expect it. Caption: A tiger-like enemy with flailing tendrils attackers players on the battlefield. Our trailer gave you a first look at General Ketheric Thorm, one of three main antagonists you’ll encounter as you traverse the Forgotten Realms. Ketheric is a man with complex ambitions and motivations, so in searching for his voice, we knew we needed to work with a renowned character actor who could deliver the kind of nuanced performance we were looking for – so we decided to cast JK Simmons (Whiplash, Spider-Man). One take and we knew we’d made the right call. Here’s a peek behind the scenes: Play Video We’ll introduce you to two more antagonists over the coming months – keep an eye out. (But definitely close your eyes if someone approaches with anything resembling a tadpole.) Hey there! I’m Marcela Huerta, KO_OP’s Community Director. You haven’t heard from us here on the PS Blog for a while but we’re back with a vengeance to announce Goodbye Volcano High’s launch date trailer for State of Play! This is so huge for us, and we’re so grateful to have gotten this platform to tell you about it. Oh and that launch date, for the record, is June 15, 2023. It’s right around the end of the school year, so hopefully no exams will keep you away from the dino drama. You can wishlist the game on PlayStation Store starting today, and hope you’ll take the time to give that lil’ heart a click and show us some love. You may have noticed a few new voices in this trailer, and I wanted to give you the deets on who they were, since I’m sure the game aficionados among you noticed a few. We have Ozioma Akagha voicing Fang’s best friend and bug loving bandmate Trish, Abe Bueno-Jallad as Fang’s little brother slash dad joke connoisseur Naser, Allegra Clark as Naomi, the charmingly uptight class president with a heart of gold, and Mark Whitten as wise and delightfully chill drummer Reed. As announced in our last trailer, the iconic Lachlan Watson stars as Fang, GVH’s talented, anxious protagonist. We’re so over the moon with this cast, and can’t believe we get to deliver a fully voice-acted game; it really makes the world of Goodbye Volcano High feel so lived in. Also… don’t forget: we still have a lot more characters to announce voice actors for, so stay tuned! Our newest trailer also features new performance footage and minigames! The performance shots put Worm Drama in the spotlight while showcasing one of Goodbye Volcano High’s strengths: the magical 2D animations (animations that people often mistake for 3D). The minigames give you a sneak peek at the types of interactions you’ll play through as Fang: whether it’s trying to stop yourself from doomscrolling or making your band’s poster (graphic design is my passion), players are really integrated into the day-to-day of Fang’s world. Alongside these announcements we’re also using this opportunity to drop “Reunion,” the third single from the Goodbye Volcano High’s soundtrack. I was always obsessed with the vibes of this song, how bouncy and joyful it was, but when I read the lyrics it really got to me!! I just love a song about coming together after a crisis. Because what else do we have but each other in apocalyptic times? It’s melancholy as hell and I’m here for it!! Now we’re all together, never be alone (never be alone) We know better than to be on our own In this inferno As with the rest of the singles we’ve released (“Don’t Talk” for our delay announcement and “Constellations” for our last PlayStation announcement), “Reunion” is by our in-house audio director, Dabu, and features Brigitte Naggar. Dabu is known for his work on Dwarf Fortress, Boyfriend Dungeon, and Winding Worlds. Brigitte Naggar is a Canadian musician who’s released two full-length albums under the stage name Common Holly: Playing House and When I say to you Black Lightning. As we get closer and closer to the finish line on this project, it’s beautiful to see the details our background and character artists have imagined get rigged and brought to life by our powerful animation team, with all the polish the programming department adds… seeing everything fully integrated into the final game is so unbelievably rewarding. We’re super grateful for your support and hope you’ll keep up with our development process here, by signing up to our newsletter, and by following us on Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok! Thanks again, and see you on the internet! Goodbye Volcano High will be available on PS5 and PS4 this June 2023. Make way for the return of fan favorites Zangief and Cammy in Street Fighter 6 along with the exuberant newcomer Lily. The bear, bird, and bee round out the diverse 18-character launch roster when Street Fighter 6 launches on June 2, 2023! Watch the trailer below for a look at what makes these three different characters unique. The legendary grappler One of the original World Warriors from Street Fighter II, Zangief is a colossal wrestler dedicated to physical improvement and instructing his students. Find Zangief flexing the beauty of his muscles in front of a raging crowd in Barmaley Steelworks, a steel mill known for its blast furnace. Yes, he wants you to look at his body. As the first grappler in the Street Fighter series, Zangief still has his trademark throws like Screw Piledriver and Siberian Express – all of which have been in previous entries in some way or form. During his time teaching, Zangief has picked up a new move called the Tundra Storm, which can be used to counter an opponent’s grounded kick resulting in a damaging throw. Zangief’s V-Trigger I Cyclone Lariat from Street Fighter V returns as his Level 2 Super Art where he rotates at high speeds while pulling in his opponent. As a consummate showman, Zangief turns on the pro wrestling flair in his Level 3 Super Art Bolshoi Storm Buster, where he lifts his opponent into the air and smashes them down head first. One with the wind Soaring in as a new character to Street Fighter 6, Lily is a descendant of the Thunderfoot tribe, the same tribe T. Hawk hails from. She speaks with the spirits of nature, trusting in their guidance as she travels the globe. Don’t judge a book by its cover—her small stature conceals truly gigantic power. Her home in the Thunderfoot Settlement is flush with vibrant colors and her people going about their daily lives. They revere Singing Wolf, the tribe’s eldest member. Lily wields two war clubs in battle to harness nature and to pack a heavier punch. Being from the same tribe as T. Hawk, she flies towards enemies with Condor Dive, Condor Spire, and Tomahawk Buster. She can use her unique move Condor Wind to grant one Windclad stock, which powers up the aforementioned special moves. Lily spins around enemies, barraging them with her war clubs in her Level 1 Super Art Breezing Hawk. Be wary of the full force of the Thunderfoot tribe in Lily’s Level 3 Super Art Raging Typhoon, a spinning throw where she slams her opponent into the ground twice in the same manner as T. Hawk. Her mission continues The cat-loving Killer Bee is back! Cammy first appeared in Super Street Fighter II and is a member of British special forces unit Delta Red where she currently works at HQ. She distinguished herself in the operation against Shadaloo, with which she shares a fated connection. Hyper-competent but somewhat moody, Cammy kind of hates everything – except cats – and is no stranger to a fight on the streets. Keen-eyed sleuths can spot her in King Street, a foggy corner dotted with vestiges of the Industrial Age. Cammy fans will feel comfortable with her move set in Street Fighter 6, which improves on her legendary deadly moves. The Heavy version of Spiral Arrow, Cannon Spike, and Hooligan Combination can now be held down to delay the move while also changing its properties or damage. Cammy’s training back at HQ has also opened up more opportunities when using Hooligan Combination, but she wants that to remain confidential for now. Known for her bone-crunching throws, Cammy’s Level 2 Super Art Killer Bee Spin will make you wince again as she performs a chokehold on the opponent. Cammy’s Level 3 Super Art Delta Red Assault showcases her skills as a member of the special forces as she sends opponents to their knees before a series of purr-fect high-speed attacks. The roster is complete! Zangief, Lily and Cammy join Ryu, Chun-Li, Luke, Jamie, Guile, Kimberly, Juri, Ken, Blanka, Dhalsim, E. Honda, Dee Jay, Manon, Marisa, and JP in the launch roster. Play each of these characters in Fighting Ground where you can partake in Versus Battles, Extreme Battles, Training, and more. You’ll also meet each of these Masters in the single-player immersive World Tour where you can mix and match their learned Special Moves from and call them to assist you in a fight. Finally, take your experience to the Battle Hub, your home for online matches and hanging out with the community. Finally, we are proud to announce the return of the Capcom Pro Tour for the 2023 season which will kick off the Street Fighter 6 eSports era! To celebrate the launch of the game, the Capcom Pro Tour season will feature a total prize pool of more than $2 million, while the Capcom Cup Grand Finals Champion will receive a grand prize of $1 million! Who’s ready to be crowned the first Capcom Pro Tour Street Fighter 6 Champion and go home a millionaire? Street Fighter 6 hits the scene on June 2, 2023 on PS5 and PS4! Pre-order now for Outfit 1 Color 10 for Chun-Li, Jamie, Manon, Dee Jay, Juri, and Ken. PlayStation Store pre-order offers an extra bonus of 18 Special Titles and Stickers. View the full article

Hey everyone, I’m Graham Parkes, the writer and one of three directors behind Before Your Eyes— a first person narrative adventure which tells the story of a soul’s journey into the afterlife using a new and innovative form of interaction—your real-life blinks. Check out the trailer below. Play Video Ever since co-director Will Hellwarth conceived of this title seven years ago, as a student project at USC, we’ve dreamed of it one day coming to virtual reality. What we never could have dreamed of is finding as exciting home for it as a launch title for the PS VR2. For one, the eye-tracking just works perfectly. With the PC version — everybody has a different webcam, different lighting conditions, which made it a real challenge. But with PSVR2’s advanced tracking technology, as soon as we got the headset on and started blinking around, it instantly felt like magic. We always designed this game to be as accessible to as wide an audience as possible. It was a rule that anything we made for it had to pass “the Mom Test” — meaning that our non-gaming mothers could enjoy it as easily as the most hardcore gamer. The PS VR2 version makes this even more the case. After starting the game, you don’t even need a controller, you simply control the camera with your head movements, and interact and control the flow of the story simply by blinking. The emotional narrative surrounds and overwhelms you, as you relive precious memories of family, first love and the rise of an artistic career, before revealing a heartbreaking hidden truth. We sincerely feel this version is the definitive way to experience this story which we’ve all poured so much of ourselves into over so many years. We can’t wait for fans both old and new to get their eyes on it. Hey everyone! I’m Phil Crifo, Tchia’s Game Director and Awaceb Co-founder. Today we have some exciting news to share that many of you have been asking about for a while now. Tchia will be launching on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on March 21, 2023! We can’t wait for you to jump into our great adventure, and we’re delighted that the game will also be available as a Day 1 release with PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium. Play Video If you haven’t heard of Tchia, it’s an open world sandbox adventure inspired by our homeland of New Caledonia. It’s infused with all aspects of New Caledonian culture. We recreated iconic landmarks, populated the world with the local wildlife and even told the story using local languages, with all characters voiced by local talent! Check out a bit more about that in “Our Journey With Tchia”, a video series diving into the cultural inspirations behind the game. Play Video Last month, we took you on a deep-dive into Tchia’s gameplay mechanics and showed off some of the cool stuff you can get up to. From swimming the ocean depths and setting sail on your customizable boat, to jamming out on your Ukulele or even becoming a coconut! Check it out here. But in our new trailer that we unveiled today during the State of Play, we wanted to put a spotlight on the story and narrative themes. Despite its tropical setting, not everything is a vacation in the game. So get ready to sail into an unexpected and soulful coming-of-age journey with Tchia! Caption: Tchia and her father sit by a log fire. Tchia keeps the beat while her father sings. The island that our heroine, Tchia, calls home has been invaded by strange fabric creatures called the Maano. They are acting under the orders of the archipelago’s evil ruler Meavora and have taken Tchia’s father. They can be pretty scary so in using everything at your disposal (including the environment!), you’ll have to keep your wits about you to take them out and rescue your father. Caption: Tchia warps herself into a nearby lantern, tossing her new container form at another lantern nearby, warping herself out of it a split second before the two collide, the explosion taking out an enemy nearby. For those willing to take their customization even further, we are also delighted to announce today that a special Oléti Edition (Oléti means “thank you” in Drehu) will be available at the launch of Tchia, featuring a selection of cosmetic items inspired by Kepler Interactive’s family of studios and games. Using the Kepler Customization Pack, you will be able to dress Tchia as the main character in Sifu, customize your boat in the nightmarish colors of Scorn, and even carry a backpack reminiscent of Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn’s mysterious foxlike companion, Enki. With the upcoming launch of Destiny 2: Lightfall on February 28, Guardians will be thrust into a new adventure that will see them prepare for the arrival of the Witness and its disciple, Calus. Challenge and thrills await players with Lightfall—from brand new enemies such as the formidable Tormentors to a gripping campaign, complete with a Legendary difficulty mode for those Guardians looking for the ultimate test of their skill. Destiny fans got their latest look at Lightfall in the launch trailer, which debuted today during today’s State of Play. Take a look and whet your appetite for all of the Strand-weaving, Shadow Legion-crushing, Neomuna-exploring action to come: Guardians won’t go into the fight against Calus empty-handed. A new elemental damage type, Strand, will let players pluck at the threads of cosmic consciousness and wield the Weave to sew destruction and chaos against the enemies of humanity. There will also be a bevy of new weapons and armor to add to your Guardian’s arsenal, including powerful Exotics, as well as a new Strand-enabled grapple ability that will give Guardians movement options they’ve never encountered before in Destiny 2. With Lightfall, the Destiny 2 team has also been hard at work crafting a host of behind-the-scenes improvements to gameplay, armor customization, and more that will not just make your life as a Guardian easier, but more effective in combat too. Here, we’ll take a look at some of the quality-of-life features that are coming to Destiny 2: Lightfall to learn a bit more about how they evolved in development and how Guardians can put them to best use once they hit the neon streets of Neptune’s hidden city of Neomuna. Crafting a better Guardian Guardians are built for battle. Between powerful armor and abilities, plus a weapons arsenal that can only be described as “plentiful,” there are a myriad of ways to design and customize a monster-killing machine that suits practically any player’s style. But arming yourself is only the first step. Progress far enough into the game and you’ll encounter mods—upgrades that can be added to weapons and armor which offer new perks and abilities. Those mod effects stack together to create a Guardian that is as individual as the person holding the controller. Using mods to craft a great build has been a part of the Destiny 2 experience for years now, and with Lightfall, the team is looking to make the process of taking your Guardian to the next level easier than ever. They’ve done that through some key updates that aim to make buildcrafting more approachable without losing the complexity and depth that Destiny 2 players love. There is a lot to unpack with the updated buildcrafting system; from the retiring of the old mod energy system to Artifact mods being translated into passive perks, and more. Check out the recent post on Bungie.net for the nitty gritty details of how mods will change the game in Lightfall. Let’s focus on two buildcrafting features in particular: Mod Customization and Loadouts. Mod customization Much like Appearance Customization revolutionized the way players can quickly and easily customize their Guardian’s look, the upcoming Mod Customization feature will let players manage their mod collection with a dedicated interface that puts everything on one mod-focused screen. As Bungie’s Rodney Thompson explains, one of the key goals for the buildcrafting updates was to save time. “[Previously] it took up a lot of a player’s time to go in and modify a build,” said Thompson. “And because mods were spread across multiple armor slots, if you changed weapons, for example, there was a high likelihood that you would actually have to go in and change five different pieces of armor because your mods weren’t set up right.” With the new Mod Customization screen, you will be able to navigate an all-in-one screen that shows all your mods and armor pieces at any given time, allowing you to quickly slot in mods without having to click on individual armor slots. In addition, you’ll be able to easily access crucial information such as your current weapon’s perks and stats, without the need to click back to your Character screen. Loadouts If you’ve ever gone from a strike to a Grandmaster Nightfall to an epic raid in a single Destiny 2 session, you know that switching gear is a must for the experienced Guardian. While third-party apps have traditionally been a huge help with gear switching, the new Loadouts system coming with Lightfall aims to give players all that convenience without the need to leave the game. With Loadouts, you will be able to quickly swap entire sets of gear on the fly (yes, even gear in your vault), as well as to save, label, and visually identify new loadouts as they are created. You’ll start with six slots in which to save loadouts and will be able to earn more as you complete additional Guardian Ranks (more on those in a bit). You’ll also be able to swap between loadouts mid-activity (excluding activities where your gear is locked, such as Grandmaster Nightfalls), not just from orbit. Bungie UI Designer Xavier Durand-Hollis explained that the Loadouts and Mod Customization systems have been designed for ease of access, with each just a button press away from the Character screen. “When you open your Character screen, there will be two buttons on either side that you can press with the directional buttons. If you press left, it will open the Loadouts panel. You press right on the Character screen and then you can quickly access all of your different gear mods.” By cutting down the number of navigation screens, Mod Customization and Loadouts have been designed to save time for players. “The time between when you conceive of a build and the time you’re playing with it is much shorter,” Thompson said. “Basically, it means more time shooting aliens in the face.” Up through the ranks Another pair of new features coming to Lightfall—Guardian Ranks and Commendations—have been designed with social gameplay in mind. At their core, Guardian Ranks are a visual shorthand that will let players easily understand the experience and abilities of other Guardians they encounter. Players who complete activities in the game will move up through the Guardian Ranks hierarchy as a natural result of playing the game, and some ranks will only be available to those who complete certain activities such as dungeons, Nightfalls, or raids. Destiny 2’s new Commendations system will let players compliment fireteam members after an event or activity has ended. Example commendations include Joy Bringer, Selfless, and Playmaker, with each used to recognize positive qualities of gameplay and teamwork. Earning commendations will help you not only access the upper echelons of Guardian Ranks, it will also let everyone know that you are a good person to have on their fireteam. Bungie Designer Steve Dolan said there’s a lofty goal that sits behind features like Guardian Ranks and Commendations: motivating the player to be better, not just in terms of skill, but also in terms of… being a person. “The reason why you want a good [Commendations] score is because a lot of the highest ranks are about helping the community,” Dolan said. “You can get to a pretty high Guardian Rank by just being good at the game. If you want to get to the highest ranks, you have to be good at the game and contribute positively to the community. All of a sudden, you’ve got someone who’s like, ‘Yeah, I’m rank nine but I want to help these rank fives because I want to get some commendations and really boost my score.’” With its consistent focus on trying new activities—from Seasonal Challenges to tried and true modes like strikes and Nightfalls—the Guardian Ranks system also serves as a handy tool to let players know what optional activities are available to them if they’re looking to advance. At the start of each Season, players will be reset to Guardian Rank six (assuming they’ve reached that rank during the previous Season), and they’ll need to progress through Seasonal and higher-end content like dungeons and raids to attain rank seven and upward. [With these systems in place] there’s this great gradual stepping up in understanding the systems of the game,” said Thompson. “You’re going to have all your progression in the narrative and then you also add the Guardian Ranks progression, where, if you do the challenges and then move up through the ranks, you will learn the things you need to know as you go. That’s a huge improvement over the way we’ve done it in the past because we can now say there is a progression to follow, there’s a logical next step.” An epic new adventure, full of challenge, mystery, and thrills, and all bolstered by a bevy of features designed to make your life as a Guardian not just easier, but more friendly as well. It’s all coming with the launch of Destiny 2: Lightfall on February 28. Play The Witch Queen for free this weekend Destiny 2 fans can prepare for the launch of Destiny 2: Lightfall by taking the fight to Savathûn and her Lucent Brood for free this weekend. Starting on February 23 through February 26, The Witch Queen Standard Edition will be available to PlayStation players at no additional cost. The Throne World awaits, Guardians! View the full article

We are delighted to finally unveil the next generation of immersive VR action with Synapse. At nDreams we’ve been pioneering the possibilities of VR gaming for the past decade and we’re always looking to push the medium, such as with Fracked’s fluid, run and gun action gameplay on PS VR. We wanted to push things even further with our first next-gen VR title on the PS VR2, in a way never seen before. Launching later this year, Synapse is the result of this hard work – combining brutal firepower, expressive 1:1 telekinesis and an iconic art style. On top of this the game has been created from inception to be a PS VR2-only experience. We couldn’t be happier to share our teaser trailer for a taste of Synapse’s mind-blowing gameplay: Transforming gameplay for next gen VR VR heightens your senses, making you feel so immersed and involved in the world around you and we wanted to fully explore this with Synapse. We saw the opportunity with PS VR2 to create a new, expressive mechanic that is perfect for VR – telekinesis. We’ve seen from non-VR games how telekinesis can add so much to combat and gameplay, but VR transforms the experience, making telekinesis feel even more immersive through full 1:1 motion control. We’ve tailored the wielding of telekinesis to feel instinctive and expressive, giving players new ways to take down enemies and progress through levels. A key element in this is eye-tracking enhanced aiming which equips players with pinpoint precision when targeting their telekinesis and combines with motion controls to make wielding telekinetic powers a full-body experience. Creating the future of VR combat We were proud of the reception of Fracked’s run and cover gunplay when it launched on the PS VR back in 2021 – it was fast, visceral and uncompromised, but also entirely accessible and intuitive. We were wrapping up the game just as we were starting work with the PS VR2, and we knew this was the perfect foundation to build upon with Synapse. Our new game evolves this core gameplay, making full use of the Sense controller’s analogue sticks, adaptive triggers and haptic feedback, but we wanted to go beyond this. We wanted to give the player the freedom to shape and master their combat style through dual-wielding, with telekinesis in one hand and a deadly arsenal of weapons in the other. How you use this lethal combination is up to you. As an example, something I love about the guns in Synapse is the ability to reload by slamming the magazine against any surface you choose: the back of your hand, the cover in front of you, your chest, or my personal favourite – the head of an enemy you have propelled towards you with telekinesis! There are so many abilities and combat styles for players to discover, from using objects as weapons or moveable cover, to telekinetically launching enemies into mid-air and blasting them with your trusty firearm as you truly unleash your inner anti-hero. Harnessing the power of PS VR2 A next gen hardware launch is always an exciting time, especially for us as developers. From very early on in the development cycle, we could see that the graphical fidelity of this generation of hardware was going to be a huge leap forward. So, we placed a focus on tailoring Synapse’s surreal mindscape visual style to showcase the PS VR2’s OLED display and the seismic increase in graphical horsepower. The monochrome art style with its bursts of vibrant colour can only truly be done justice on the stunning 4K HDR screen along with foveated rendering, showing the world vividness and sharpness at a level that we haven’t seen before. Synapse will be launching exclusively on PS VR2 later this year and we can’t wait to show you more of the game and the journey we have been on as we head towards launch. In the meantime, we’d love to hear what you think of what you’ve seen so far, let us know in the comments! View the full article

Hello, PlayStation fans! With great pleasure, we want to invite you to take a deep dive into the Green Hell VR world. Make sure to check out the first look at the PS VR2 version of our game in the trailer below. Become Jake Higgins, a famous anthropologist who finds himself lost in the Amazon jungle. Surrounded by various dangers and equipped only with his watch, backpack and handy survival guide, he must endure and make it back to civilization. Take on the thrilling challenge and see how long you can last in the green hell of the rainforest. Craft various tools and weapons to fight back against predators, chop down trees, heal yourself or catch fish in the treacherous river. Build a shelter, grab a bow and get ready to survive – we wish you the best of luck, you’ll certainly need it! PlayStation VR2 allows us to bring Green Hell VR to a new audience without making any sacrifices. Thanks to the amazing technology behind the Sense controller, you can feel every impactful action. Haptic feedback makes something as simple as pulling a bow string an immersive experience. PS VR2 also offers headset feedback so you can feel everything more intensely, whether it be hand-to-hand combat, bug bites or our brave protagonist’s heartbeat. Combined with the feedback from PS VR2 Sense controller, the level of immersion is far, far deeper than even the most dangerous parts of the Amazon River. Sound is another crucial factor in increasing player engagement in any virtual world. In the case of PS5 and PlayStation VR2, 3D Audio makes you feel more present in the rainforest, so you can not only see but also hear the nature around you – insects, rain… or the wildlife trying to hunt you down. Using the combined capabilities of PS VR2 and Wwise, we strive for the most precise and faithful representation of sounds of the jungle. We aim to achieve a unique sense of immersion and spatiality. The visuals also help to immerse you in the game, especially when it’s a VR title. Green Hell VR offers high-quality graphics, believable environments and characters – all without sacrificing performance. It’s important that everything runs smoothly, and PS VR2 guarantees a stable frame rate. Green Hell VR also features reworked lighting, high-res textures and realistic shadows – all that in native PS VR2 resolution – among other graphical enhancements, to add depth to the image. It’s a unique visual experience, and we’re excited to bring it to PlayStation fans around the world. Our game is set in the Amazon rainforest, which is exciting in itself. The jungle can be beautiful, interesting and, of course, dangerous. It’s the perfect place to fight for survival and explore the lush, green world. The appearance of such an exotic place can vary depending on several aspects, such as the time of day or the changing weather. However, there are some distinguishing elements of the jungle aesthetic that can be identified, such as dense foliage. The environment has an air of mysticism and danger and has the ability to evoke a variety of feelings in those who visit it. The fact that it’s home to such a wide variety of plant and animal species not only adds to the visual appeal, but also makes it incredibly intriguing to many people. In Green Hell VR, you can explore the harsh rainforest from the comfort of your own room. With PS VR2, you can really see how it feels to wade through the lush vegetation and make the jungle your home, if only temporarily. It is an immersive and sometimes quite scary experience, so be prepared! Book your trip to the Green Hell VR jungle in 2023 by adding us to your PlayStation Store wishlist. Stay tuned, as we will be back with more juicy news! View the full article

Our team has always wanted to make games with engaging gameplay and well-crafted stories. After many years, I’m happy that we’re taking that step forward with the announcement of our first original game as an independent studio, The Foglands! For the announcement, we were really excited to get people intrigued by the vibes of this foggy sci-fi western world, alongside moments of its high-intensity VR gameplay. The player tosses a wrench at an approaching enemy, catching it as it ricochets back off the downed foe In this world completely coated by a toxic Fog, you’re a part of a community forced to live in an underground bunker, called The Hold. Within the community, there are scavengers who maintain the survival of their shelter, called Runners. These Runners are the few who are brave enough to step out into the dangers of the Fog. The story picks up as you play as a new Runner on their first mission, which ends in a complete disaster. Afterward, you meet a peculiar fellow who wants to strike a deal. A mysterious character dubbed The Stranger. He promises a slew of boons, rewards, and as many chances as it takes to hunt down a great creature that is directly threatening your home. With your goals aligned, why not strike this deal? A montage of characters – some friendly, others not – flashes in front of the player’s eyes The development of this game has been a committed, and long-awaited labor of love for our dev team. Well Told is an independently owned and operated game studio that’s remained afloat through game development work-for-hire gigs since 2015. The concept of The Foglands was born even earlier than the studio’s conception, as a student project produced in college by some of our co-founders. After years of steady growth as a studio, we lucked out with an opportunity to revisit the passion project that brought us together all those years ago. This game would not have been possible without both the past and present contributions of our team and partners. While maintaining the original vision of the project, we’re proud that everyone’s voice has left an impact. We’re fortunate to be making games at a time where we have access to a global network of developers, artists, and more to help us bring this game to life. In Foglands, a well-placed punch can knock out foes, while gunslinging can stagger larger attackers. So yeah, look forward to landing some impactful punches with those sweet haptics thanks to the Sense controller! Working with the support of PlayStation and the next-generation features of the PS VR2, it provides a new level of immersion that enhances our intended player experience so well. I’m very excited for players to experience not only the game, but the new headset itself! The team is very excited to have players explore and discover mysteries and twists we’ve set in this foggy world. So for now… We’re still keeping our cards close on further details. Coming for PS VR2 in 2023, stay tuned as we plan to share more later this year. View the full article

Hello everyone, this is Masashi Takahashi, producer of Octopath Traveler. If you’re reading this article, it means that you have at least a bit of interest in Octopath Traveler II… and if that’s the case, I’m delighted! This game marks the first time the series has been playable on PlayStation, so I thought I should introduce the series for those of you who haven’t encountered it before. So read on, and I’ll tell you everything you need to know about Octopath Traveler II. It’s a completely standalone game Firstly, don’t worry if you haven’t played the original Octopath Traveler – there’s no continuous narrative between that game and Octopath Traveler II! This is an entirely standalone game set in an entirely new world with entirely new characters. Even if this is your first time with the series, you’ll be able to enjoy all of its elements. It uses a beautiful HD-2D art style Do you enjoy pixel art games? Many of you may find yourselves drawn to this game due to its graphics. Octopath Traveler II uses ‘HD-2D’ visuals – a unique graphic style that combines pixels with 3D CG. It looks good in screenshots and video, but it’s something you really have to experience first-hand by actually moving around the game with your own hands. It creates a captivating effect that feels both modern and nostalgic at the same time! It’s particularly appealing on PlayStation, thanks to silky smooth 60FPS gameplay that makes it feel as good to play as it looks. You can play as eight heroes You don’t get to choose just one hero in Octopath Traveler II – you get to choose between eight! Each of the Travelers is unique, and once you pick your first character, you’ll be able to encounter the others, add them to your party and experience their adventures too. So, who are these brave adventurers? Hikari the Warrior – a young prince with a kind heart. After a coup leads his kingdom down a warpath, he sets off to find a path to peace. Agnea the Dancer – a talented dancer who delights the locals in her small village with her performances. But she dreams of bringing smiles to more people and inspired by her mama, sets out to become a star. Partitio the Merchant – a young merchant with an uncanny nose for commerce. After experiencing the decline of his hometown, he’s determined to find a way to save people from the pain of poverty. Osvald the Scholar – framed for the death of his wife and child, this brilliant magical mind is muzzled and sent to prison. He vows to escape and find the man responsible for his suffering. Throné the Thief – a talented member of a thieves’ guild trapped in a seemingly endless cycle of crime and death. She sets out on a journey to find the leaders of the guild and break free from this life of misery. Temenos the Cleric – a laid-back Inquisitor for the Order of the Sacred Flame. An investigation into tragedy in his church leads to an exploration that will change his life. Ochette the Hunter – a talented young hunter living a peaceful life on a remote island. In order to prevent an incoming catastrophe, she sets out on a quest to find the three Creatures of Legend. Castti the Apothecary – a mysterious healer found drifting at sea. With no memory of who she is, she embarks on a quest to recover her memory. Each of these heroes has their own distinct personalities, motivations, talents, and abilities that help them in and out of battle. Speaking of which… Break and Boost combat system Octopath Traveler II’s world of Solistia is full of dangers as you’ll regularly have to face off against monstrous foes. Combat is fast-paced and deeply strategic thanks to the ‘Break and Boost’ system. The key to success is ‘breaking’ enemies. By exploiting their weaknesses, you can reduce your foes’ Shield Points to zero and stun them for a turn. What’s more, all your attacks do critical damage! Boosting adds another tactical edge to combat. Each turn you earn boost points, which can be spent to take multiple actions on a turn, strengthen attacks and more. Knowing when to use your points and when to save them is just one strategic decision you’ll have to think about as you fight. Using these features, along with a massive range of attacks, magic spells, special abilities and more, makes combat feel consistently engaging and satisfying. Path Actions let you interact with the world and its people The eight travelers don’t just have awesome attacks to unleash in battle, they also have abilities that let them engage with people in towns and cities. These are called ‘Path Actions’ and they let you do some really fun things. Every character has two Path Actions – one they use during the day, another at night, and there are often different ways to achieve the same objective. For example, if an NPC has an object you want, you could either use Partitio to splash the cash and buy it from them, or use Osvald at night to mug them and just take it. And that highlights another key feature of Octopath Traveler 2 – it’s your adventure. It’s all about letting you explore the story and gameplay systems at your own pace and allowing players to discover their own unique experiences. I hope this rundown makes you consider playing Octopath Traveler II. The game releases for PS5 and PS4 on February 24. View the full article
