2. It’s Saint Patty’s Day! Rather than prop up the bar at my local watering hole, I’ll be sprawled out on my couch in a last-ditch effort to save all sentient life from the Reapers — call it a (possible) sign of maturity (yeah, right). Given all raging debate over Mass Effect 3’s ending, I’m dead [...] More...
 3. Journey’s much-celebrated launch on PSN this week served as a powerful reminder of the importance of fresh perspectives and bold risk-taking in video game design. But it also begged the question “what’s next?†Enter Closure, the grand-prize winner of the DICE 2012 Indie Game Challenge and the climactic final release in this year’s Spring Fever PSN showcase. Much like its starkly rendered characters, Closure stands out in an indie game development field dominated by esoteric art styles and quirky gameplay choices. The game merges elements both old and new, fusing puzzle-based platforming with a light-and-dark twist. If you want to learn more about Closure’s gameplay (and why you’ll want to collect as many Silver Moths as possible), read Jeff’s in-depth hands-on report. 4. Many people dream of visiting Tokyo and a few lucky ones actually get to go. If the long flights, heavy suitcases and language barriers just aren’t in the cards for you, don’t fret. You can still see some actual real-life Tokyo sights, restaurants, amusements and more in Yakuza: Dead Souls -- which is out now on PS3, by the way. Just like any good tourist guidebook, here’s a map of Kamurocho (a city inspired by the famous red light district in Tokyo), with a numbered list of restaurants, advertising and more that are actually real-life things. We’ve also added the location of the first three zombie bosses*. We’re just nice like that. More...

 6. With GDC 2012 is officially in the books, it’s time we turn our attention to the next generation of PSN superstars -- beginning with VBlank’s 8-bit love letter Retro City Rampage. On today’s show, we speak with developer Brian Provinciano to learn more about Retro City Rampage’s lengthy journey from fan project to a full-blown PS3 and PS Vita release. Retro City Rampage is a quirky, charming game that mashes up modern gameplay conventions (open-world missions, cover-based shooting) with a retro presentation and a slew of nostalgic references, and our interview We also peer deeper into the secret world of Datura, the intriguing upcoming PSN game that casts you into a mysterious forest and leaves you to fend for yourself. Our chat with Producer Matt Morton sheds light into the game’s focus on choice and consequence, its tight integration with the PlayStation Move motion controller, and a hint at the game’s upcoming release window. 7. When it comes to presentations, we’ve officially thrown caution to the wind. Why the risk? Well, we deem it a necessary one in our quest to blur the lines between a real baseball TV broadcast and MLB The Show. We know that series fans demand an accurate simulation of reality and we’re doing our best to deliver. On that note, MLB 12 The Show is proud to introduce TruBroadcast Presentations, which combine the best of broadcast presentations and Real Time presentations. Here’s a look. That description, however, would be selling short the full potential of TruBroadcast presentations. We’ve also restructured and refined upwards of 10,000 presentations and combined them with enhanced AI, revamped cameras, improved on-screen displays, and expanded audio to deliver the most realistic baseball gaming experience to date. Without question, this is our biggest leap forward in blurring the line between reality and our game. We realize that anything that detracts from this reality and requires suspension of disbelief can shatter the feeling that you are playing in a real game. More...
 8. It’s amazing that it’s been almost 10 years since the release of the original Ratchet & Clank on PlayStation 2. A lot has changed since 2002, but your loyalty to our furry Lombax and his faithful robot companion has endured. As we reach the 10th Anniversary of Ratchet & Clank, we wanted to commemorate the achievements of the Ratchet & Clank saga. Today, we’re delighted to announce the Ratchet & Clank 10th Anniversary Celebration, which also simultaneously addresses the biggest current request from our fans: The Ratchet & Clank Collection. This will contain Ratchet & Clank, Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando, and Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal – all remastered by Idol Minds, working closely with our team at Insomniac Games. In addition to a full 1080p HD remaster (720p stereoscopic 3D support) of all three games and the inclusion of three Platinum Trophies, we’re happy to confirm that the online competitive multiplayer from Up Your Arsenal will be included. Now you can check out the acclaimed multiplayer mode that many of you didn’t get to experience the first time on PS2. More...
 9. I’ve never seen a game quite like Datura. I encountered this upcoming PSN adventure title last week during a GDC demonstration that showed off the game’s intricate use of the PlayStation Move motion controller. In Datura, your gestures with PS Move guide a disembodied hand onscreen, a bit like a mouse cursor but in a full 3D space. The motion tracking is 1:1, so I was able to reach into the game to interact with the environment, whether it was to caress a tree trunk or pull a hand-drawn map in for closer inspection. In the video, Producer Matt Morton gives a full tour of Datura’s interface and universe -- it’s absolutely worth watching. Intrigued by the game’s cryptic presentation and strong emphasis on player choice, I spoke with Director Michal Staniszewski to learn more about his inspirations. If Datura intrigues you, be sure to tune into this Thursday’s PlayStation Blogcast for another segment discussing this enigmatic PSN title. And if you have questions, be sure to leave them in the comments. More...
 10. Hey! I know we're all heavily enjoying Journey right now (it's amazing), but don't shut off your PS3 when you're done with it because another awesome game, Closure, is coming out at the end of the month. We just finished our launch trailer, which you can watch below right now! Just for recap, Closure is a puzzle platformer based around manipulating lights to phase objects in and out of reality. The core gameplay premise is: If you can't see it, it doesn't exist. It's a simple enough concept to understand, but the puzzles are anything but. A team of three (myself, artist Jon Schubbe, musician Christopher Rhyne) have spent three years working on Closure, designing nearly 100 unique and challenging puzzles spread across a variety of dark and eerie settings including a decrepit factory, a murky forest, an abandoned carnival, and a few other locales that I’ll leave as a surprise. 12. Based on the sheer number of questions we get about Gravity Rush, it’s clearly one of the most-anticipated PS Vita games coming along in the next few months. Featuring stunning, cel-shaded visuals, Vita-tailored controls, and gravity-based gameplay, it’s no wonder that reviewers across the Pacific have awarded the game (known as “Gravity Daze†in Japan) high marks. So when the game’s creators dropped into San Francisco last week for Game Developers Conference, I jumped at the chance to speak with them. In this conversation (shared with IGN’s Ryan Clements - look for his story soon at Vita.IGN.com), Game Director Keiichiro Toyama and Art Director Yoshiaki Yamaguchi talk about the game’s original platform (not PS Vita!), why they avoided an overly Japanese aesthetic, and the surprising inspiration for its unique gravity-based gameplay. This will be the first time this classic arcade light gun shooter is going to be available on a home console. Use your gun and grenades to blast them away!

PlayStation Move compatible

Multiplayer mode

Multiple paths

Ranking and grading system to track your shot accuracy

 15. Hello PlayStation.Blog! You may or may not heard of 345 Games, but we are part of Viacom Entertainment Group, which also houses cable TV channels like Spike TV and Comedy Central. We’ve also launched a few recent PSN games such as Deadliest Warrior and Ugly Americans. I wanted to take some time and let you all know that our next title Bellator MMA Onslaught will be arriving to PSN this summer. Bellator MMA Onslaught is an arcade-style fighting game grounded in the reality of an established MMA brand. If you’ve never heard of the Bellator Fighting Championships, it’s an MMA organization that currently airs on MTV2 but will be moving to Spike TV starting in 2013. Bellator is unique compared to other MMA leagues in that tournaments are held to determine who fights for the championship belt rather than having promoters select the fighter for a championship match. If you win, you move on. If you lose, you go home. This philosophy works well in the video game space, where we are used to tournament-style progression and earning your way to the top. More...
 16. Spring Fever has officially arrived today with the PSN-wide release of Journey! The makers of flOw and Flower deliver their third PSN game to critical acclaim. 17. With only five gamers remaining, the group isn’t pulling any punches when it comes to these final challenges. Last week’s episode found the group battling blindfolded on the beaches of Santa Monica in a God of War-inspired challenge with the winners earning a behind-the-scenes tour of Santa Monica Studio. This week, it’s every gamer for themselves as Dylan Jobe, president of Lightbox Interactive, puts the gamers to task in a Starhawk-inspired “Build and Battle†challenge. Each gamer will attempt to build the highest tower out of blocks and also be forced to reveal brutally honest opinions about their fellow housemates. More...

 20. It’s been a little over three years since we launched our last game, Flower. It was a difficult game to describe, but a game that we took great pride in. Many of you took a chance with it and were as moved by it as we hoped people would be. Now we’re here, three years later, on March 13th, 2012. We can’t wait to let you experience our latest PlayStation-exclusive game, Journey. It has been heartening to see the reactions from the press so far. 22. Considering our recent spate of deadlines, the PTOM staff could do with a tropical vacation. But knowing our luck we’d end up on Far Cry 3’s island in the clutches of the game’s ruthless and seriously disturbed villain Vaas. Scratch that—knowing us, we’d probably pass on the trip to paradise and curl up in our game cave playing Ubisoft’s engrossing new open-world adventure. Too much sun is bad for you anyway. If we were to head out on an expedition, we’d be sure to bring on our shiny new PS Vita. But the real question: What games would we bring? We’ve got answers in our PS Vita reviews feature that breaks down the good, the bad, and the ugly of the portable system’s first wave of games. 25. Available tomorrow on PSN, Shoot Many Robots is an action game with a twist: You can play with up to four people cooperatively online. If you don't already have an excuse to make three friends and kill some robots, we've provided five:
It’s a simple formula. As you add more players to Shoot Many Robots, you’ll encounter more robots, more explosions, and more chaos. Playing with co-op partners increases the number of robots in each level which means more things to kill...and more ways to kill them. And more dead robots means more Nut pickups, which enable you to buy new guns and gear. All of the randomly dropping items like powerups and loot also drop more frequently. In co-op, everything is just more fun. More...
