When I say that Borderlands changed my life, it's no exaggeration. It was the way that the game rewarded each and every action that got me. Every enemy I gunned down, every chest I opened brought a feeling of accomplishment and progression. So when I had the opportunity to join the team at Gearbox Software, I moved halfway across the country without a moment’s hesitation. Ever since, I’ve been seeing things that amaze me, things I know our fans will absolutely love. Things I haven't been able to talk about... until today. Because today, we're blowing the lid off of Borderlands 2. We've got a new trailer, and if you haven't already skimmed down and hit Play, let me tell you what you're in for. More...

MotorStorm RC has very humble beginnings. It started out as a simple concept we were playing around with during lunch times, a pet project to challenge each other to set the fastest times, originally using post-its on the wall as a low-fi leaderboard! Through a lot of love, care, and attention, MotorStorm RC has been transformed into the most exciting and addictive racing game we’ve ever created. It gives me great pleasure to finally be able to share that experience with you all -- MotorStorm RC will be available on March 6th for both PS Vita and PS3 from the North American PlayStation Store. Last week’s Twisted Metal inspired episode of The Tester 3 really pushed our gamers as the two teams scrambled to build a replica of Sweet Tooth’s ice cream truck under the intense scrutiny of David Jaffe. If you missed it, catch the full episode right here! Week 3 tests their ability to overcome obstacles and stay focused in a challenge inspired by UNCHARTED: Golden Abyss for PS Vita. Golden Abyss’ creative director John Garvin visits from Sony Bend Studio to evaluate each team’s performance in the most demanding challenge of the season thus far. And this week, the winning team gets to spend some quality time with Nathan Drake himself, Nolan North. But the fun and games abruptly end during this week’s intense elimination. More...

It’s been one week since our Mass Effect 3 demo became available and everyone at BioWare is incredibly pleased with the response. If you haven’t already checked out our single-player and multiplayer demos (the latter is completely spoiler free and a bit addicting!), I suggest you try them to see what all the fuss is about. Our development team worked hard to ensure that Mass Effect 3 is available at the same time for PS3 as it is for other platforms, a development milestone we’re happy to celebrate with the PlayStation community! Today, I want to let you know about an exclusive offer for anyone who pre-orders Mass Effect 3 via the PlayStation Network. When the PlayStation Store updates later this afternoon, you’ll be able to pre-order to download a digital copy of the game (available 3/6 in the US) and receive the M55 Argus rifle to complement your in-game experience. Hello again, PlayStation.Blog fans! I know it’s been over a year since we last spoke, and I am sorry about that. I’ve just been really busy and haven’t had time to write, and I swear I have not been cheating on you with the Xbox blog or anything. Anyway, now that the awkwardness is out of the way and we’re friends again, I am here to tell you that I have another exciting announcement for you! Plants Vs Zombies is coming to your brand-spankin’ new PS Vita today! Yay! If you have never played our action-puzzler -- that pits a horde of horticultural heroes against a mob of fetid, undead, brain-eating zombies – there is no better time than now. The PS Vita version is darn near the most perfect version of Plants Vs Zombies yet, taking advantage of the handheld console’s touchscreen and internal motion sensors. And if you have played it before, well, why not play it again? Think of it as training for the real zombie apocalypse, which, not to be too much of a bummer here, could be coming any day now. Why be one of the unfortunate ones who end up in some undead guy’s brain sandwich? Do the responsible thing and prepare now with our game! Your loved ones will thank you later. More...

We're happy to announce (remind) everyone that the Starhawk Multiplayer Beta is open to ALL COMERS today, Tuesday, February 21st only on the PlayStation Network! You don't have to "like" us on Facebook, you don't have to "accept a special offer" and you don't have to sign up for any service (that is, except for the PlayStation Network free service)! Everyone is welcome to join! Just check the PlayStation Store and prepare yourself for a good time! In the coming weeks we'll be upgrading the Beta a ton. You can expect a new map, new vehicles, new weapons, 32-player max matches and more. Remember, this is still a beta, not a demo. We are actively finding and fixing problems -- and we need your feedback! More...

There are literally hundreds of treasures and artifacts in UNCHARTED: Golden Abyss that help tell the backstories of the game's locations and characters, and all are tied to Trophies. To provide some extra incentive to explore every nook and cranny in the game, we added hidden paths throughout every level -- finding everything will be a challenge! But we also decided to create Treasure Maps for those who want all the game’s Trophies but who aren't keen on exploration, or just want a hint now and then. Since UNCHARTED: Golden Abyss is a portable game, it's not always easy to hop online and look up an FAQ. For that reason, we decided to offer DLC that integrates the Treasure Maps directly into Drake's Journal. More...

The launch of PlayStation Vita is just two days away and hopefully your thumbs are twitching at the prospect of getting it into your hands and enjoying what we believe is the strongest launch line-up of games in PlayStation history. One man that has had a part to play in that history is Andy House, President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment. I recently spoke to him about life in Japan, the imminent launch of PS Vita and how we as a business are welcoming this proud new addition to the PlayStation family. PlayStation.Blog: This is your second time working in Tokyo, how has the Japanese games market changed in the time you’ve been away? More...

Let’s get right to it -- Retro City Rampage is coming to PS3 and PS Vita! I couldn't be more excited to finally share the news. For those not familiar with RCR, it's an over-the-top open-world crime game that combines everything you loved in classic games and mashes them up into a “toon town†of nostalgia and parody. Steal cars, and then jump on pedestrians for big shiny coins. Collect power-ups and outrun the law while rampaging the city, shooting a light gun or swinging your bionic arm. Fans of Grand Theft Auto will feel right at home with RCR, but the missions extend far beyond driving and shooting. They fuse classic gaming and modern mechanics to span virtually every genre, from stealth to platforming, adventure, rhythm and more—there are even underwater levels. What I’m most proud of is that everything flows together using the same mechanics and visuals. Even missions inspired by ’80s coin-op games seamlessly take place in the open-world. More...

OMG you guyz, it's nearly Vita Time! Honestly, it really is exciting for us to see your reactions over Twitter and the the blog comments. Most of you who have picked one up seem really happy with your purchase, and for those on the fence, we'll still aim to answer as many questions about the device as we can (including in the comments - though please note that I'm out with the family today, I'll check back tonight). And for those of you who haven't picked up a PS Vita yet, we'd be honored to have you join us at one of the Sony Store Midnight Launch Events this coming Tuesday night. Rey and I will be in New York, where the first 200 people who purchase a Vita will walk away with a free copy of ModNation Racers: Road Trip. The big day is almost here! This Wednesday (or Tuesday night) sees the launch of PS Vita -- the most powerful and versatile handheld gaming machine on the planet. PS Vita's imminent launch stirs up some powerful memories for me, including January of 2011 when Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. revealed NGP ("Next Generation Portable") to a small group of journalists in Tokyo, and the night of PlayStation's E3 2011 press conference when Kaz Hirai announced that PS Vita's $249 to $299 retail price -- a shocking development at the time, as many analysts and editors were predicting a price closer to $399. Time flies, and it's hard to believe that PS Vita's long gestation process is nearly complete. But it's so exciting to see PS Vita making its way into the wild for the first time and hear first impressions from early adopters enjoying the launch lineup. If you're picking up PS Vita next week, be sure to tell us whether you're getting a 3G/Wi-fi system or a Wi-Fi system, as well as what games and accessories you're thinking of buying! More...

I go through a sequence of phases when a big electronics product is announced. Starting with mild interest, I quickly transition into research mode where I find out everything I can about the device. By the time launch day rolls around, I’m worked into a frenzy and inevitably end up waiting in a line for midnight release. I’m Jeff Rubenstein, and I’m an early adopter. And I know that I’m not alone. If you’re like me, please join us this coming Monday night for Sony Store midnight launches in the following locations: Towne Center at Boca Raton – Boca Raton, FL Houston Galleria – Houston Fashion Valley – San Diego Century City Mall - Los Angeles Valley Fair - Santa Clara, CA Flagship Sony Store - New York More...

The release of Unit 13 is just a few weeks away now, officially launching on March 6th, but you don't have to wait that long to get your hands on the game! On Monday, February 20th, Unit 13 is going to take over all eight Vita Hill Social Clubs, giving you the chance to dig in to the full Unit 13 experience and find out what it's like to play a console-caliber shooter in the palm of your hands. The top scoring players at each location will be eligible for some pretty awesome prizes, so play as much as you can during the limited-time event and try to get your name to the top of the leaderboards. For locations and times, check out the official Vita Hill Social Club page. If you can't make it to one of the club dates you might miss out on the prize opportunities but you can still get an early taste of Unit 13 by checking out the downloadable demo via the PlayStation Store on Tuesday, February 21st. The demo gives you access to one of the game's Direct Action missions and includes all six operatives and online leaderboard support. Perhaps best of all is that your scores and level progress earned in the demo will carry over to the full game once it's released on March 6th! More...

Recently, we gathered select members of the media and swept them off to Hong Kong for a special preview event. These lucky journalists had been flown half way around the world to see the brand-new game from Square Enix, Sleeping Dogs. While you’ll start to see their previews pop up online shortly, we thought we would give you a glimpse of what’s to come by walking you through the action-packed mission “Mrs. Chu’s Revenge.†This is not for the faint of heart...
Mrs. Chu’s Revenge
You play as Wei, an undercover cop trying to infiltrate the Hong Kong triads. In this chapter of Wei’s story, you begin in a Chinese restaurant owned by a distraught and saddened Mrs. Chu. She sits in the back of a grimy kitchen, hunched over a table, alone and in the dark. A close relative has been murdered and she wants you to deliver the man responsible. More...

In the last PlayStation.Blog post I introduced you to the three weapon classes in DUST 514: Heavy, Light and Sidearm. In this post, I wanted to pick a few weapons that changed the way that the development team played when we added them to the game. Gamers don’t always realize how long it can take for a weapon to make the leap from the drawing board to being fully functional and kicking ass in the game. It needs to be concepted, built, textured, animated, weapon logic needs to be engineered, sounds created, various values set up, tested, debugged, and tweaked. As you can imagine, all this takes quite a while, which means you spend a lot of time playing your game with a limited set of gear. Over time, we add new weapons to the game and they can radically alter the balance of play because they open up new possibilities in combat. Below are some examples. More...
