Astro A30 Review By: hLx Insidiousx

I have owned just about every headset known to the competitive gamer, from Skull Candy to Turtle Beach X1's-X2's-X3's-X4's-X41's, Tritton AX 180's-AX 720's and AX PRO's as well as the most popular ASTRO A40's! "If I would have to rate them all from greatest to garbage I would put them in this order: #1ASTRO #2Turtle Beach #3Tritton #4Skull Candy." The ASTRO headsets are capable of anything you throw their way, they are considered to be the ultimate gaming headset for both console and PC gamers. The A30 Audio System couples the LAN functionality and Dolby Headphone technology of the Astro MixAmp with the cross-gaming versatility of the A30 Headset. While tournament-ready in its own right, the A30 really shines as a multi-media headset across a variety of gaming devices. The heartbeat of the pro gamer's audio experience. The Astro MixAmp combines crystal-clear voice communication with pinpoint-accurate 5.1 Dolby and Dolby Headphone surround. High-power, audiophile-grade amplification completes this portable, powerhouse package. Astro MixAmp for Xbox360 & PS3 compatibility, featuring Dolby Digital, Dolby PLIIx, Dolby Headphone, voice/game balance & daisy-chain connections for LAN setup, no other gaming headset offers lan setup like this!

I know the big question for all of the veteran ASTRO gamers out their is are the A30's comfortable? Since the new "On Ear" design compared to the old A40 "Over Ear" design is so much different. Personally it did feel a little weird at first but I adapted to it and eventually after about 5 minutes of wearing them I didn't even notice they were on my head! I know that when I put on the A40's for the first time I had some slight discomfort in my jaw line because of the switch from the circular ear cup from Turtle Beach to the newer Rectangular shaped ear cup from ASTRO, but that passed over time. As far as the sound quality goes the ASTRO A30's are the same as the A40's in my opinion, I noticed no difference what so ever! Below is my invoice so you can see how much the entire package will cost, keep in mind that I also upgraded the basic package with the 6ft TOSlink Optical Cable, and the rechargeable battery pack."If you plan on purchasing any ASTRO setup I highly recommend you do the same!"

I couldn't justify spending $250+ on my first headset, so I settled with the 720s. I also saw a youtube video where the guy played a song at full loudness and the Tritton's sounded better, deeper than Astros even over his boom mic that came with his professional grade camera.

The only issue I have had with the 720s (which use over the ear) is that when I wear my prescription glasses, after several hours of the arms on my glasses being pressed into my head, it hurts. I would imagine this on ear design would be no better.

Good review, btw! Very informative.
