Ford bagan their 1990s World Rally Championship (WRC) campaign powered by the Sierra RS Cosworth 4×4. Then in 1992 came the Escort RS Cosworth, a homologation special developed for even higher performance. The original Escort was a masterpiece, widely being used in rally races in the late 60s going into the 70s. Years later, Ford Europe took the compact body of the 5th generation Escort, installed the highly tuned four-wheel drive powertrain from the Sierra, and adorned the rear of the vehicle with a large dual-level wing to complete the fearsome makeover. At the heart of the beast lies a longitudinally mounted 2L turbocharged twin-cam engine built by Cosworth, as per the car’s name. The bore-stroke ratio has been overhauled, resulting in a total 1,993 cc displacement, and producing 223.9 BHP/30.4 kgfm on the stock tune. On the four-wheel drive system, the central differential uses a combination of viscous coupling and planetary gears for maximum reliability. The Escort RS Cosworth began production in 1992, and gained homologation status the next year when it would start full-scale competition in the WRC’s Group A category. The “Cossie”, as fans called it, took a 1-2 finish in the round 3 Portugal Rally and went on to achieve two consecutive victories in rounds 5 (Tour de Corse) and round 6 (Acropolis) before repeating the achievement in rounds 11 and 12 (San Remo and Spain) reinstating Ford’s reputation as a strong contender on the rally circuit. The W 196 was produced by Mercedes-Benz after their return to motorsports in 1951, developed under the 2.5L engine regulations that Formula 1 had introduced in 1954. It was developed in tandem with a model for sports car racing that shared the same basic components. The W 196 entered the F1 competition, while the W 196 S competed in sportscar races with both cars finding success in their own fields. The chassis was based on a tubular steel space frame, and first appeared in its debut race at the 1954 French Grand Prix with a streamlined body covering the front and rear wheels with an aerodynamic shell. However, after the subsequent British Grand Prix it became apparent that this body style obstructed the driver’s view and required too much maintenance, so for the German Grand Prix onwards, the car primarily ran with the open-wheel style body, saving the streamline design for high-speed circuits only. These were not the only two body types though, the chassis was configured with thre different wheelbase lengths, two types of brakes, and two engine positions for a total of seven variations. The engine used was an inline-8 design constructed similarly to two four-cylinder banks joined longitudinally. At its peak, it produced 285 BHP from the 2,496 cc displacement and propelled the car to a top speed of 180.2 mph. The W 196 went on to dominate the 1954 and 1955 F1 World Championships, winning two consecutive drivers champion titles for Juan Manuel Fangio. The icon of the Porsche line-up for over 60 years, the 911 entered its eighth generation in 2018 under the ‘992’ codename. On its exterior, the 992 is a refinement of the motifs introduced by its predecessor the 991. The body size has increased slightly, but extensive efforts were made to keep weight down by increased usage of aluminum. Another notable change is the narrow body base model from previous generations was scrapped. A point of note on the car’s construction is the new MMB modular development platform. This flexible platform comprises a front axle, floor and rear axles with the ability to adapt to a rear-engine or midship design by adjusting the position of the rear axle. On the powertrain, a move was made towards downsizing, with the base model featuring a 3L turbocharged flat-6 engine. The power output is tuned according to the model, with Carrera models producing 379.7 BHP while Carrera S models produce 443.8 BHP. The standard transmission is an eight-speed PDK unit, with a seven-speed manual available on the Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S models. In April 2020, the Turbo S model was added to the 992 family as the top-level performance model. Featuring a slightly shorter stroke than previous Turbo S models, this 3,745 cc flat-6 twin-turbo powers its four wheels with a colossal 641 BHP/800 Nm (81.6 kgfm). June 1948, the first ever car to bear the Porsche name, the 356 ‘No. 1’ Roadster is approved, setting in motion the rise of one of the greatest sports car brands in history. 75 years later on the same date in 2023, the company unveiled a new concept, an interpretation of a possible future of sports car technology that takes inspiration from Porsche’s numerous classic car legends. This concept is known as the Mission X. The two-seater fully electric concept of a hypercar is actually relatively compact, at only 4,500 mm long and 2,000 mm wide. Measuring just under 1,200 mm tall, the low-slung design features an almost sculptural form with bold lines, which goes to show that a hypercar doesn’t necessarily need to look hyper-aggressive. Within each area of the exterior lives the motifs of historic racing cars. The headlights are a reinterpretation of the quad lights that adorned cars like the 906 and 908, while the doors use the same upward opening motion as the legendary 917 endurance car. Moving to the rear, an illuminated clear ‘Porsche’ logo sits in the centre of the light units which extend out from the side of the body. Looking carefully, the Porsche emblems on the bonnet and steering wheel feature an updated, more modern interpretation of the classic logo. The interior expresses a strong affinity with motorsports. The steering wheel uses an open yoke style design, fitted with paddle shifters and several mode switches. The passenger seat can be fitted with a stopwatch module created by Porsche Design, featuring both analog and digital timers. Additionally, the driver can press the record button on the multi-purpose controller at any time to begin recording video footage from the numerous cameras installed across the car. The Mission X has the potential to be crowned the fastest road-legal car on the Nürburgring Nordschleife, a theory that can be put to the test in Gran Turismo 7. It has a power-to-weight ratio of over one PS per kilogram and canis able to create considerably more downforce than even the current 911 GT3 RS. The concept also features radical charging capabilities. With a 900 V system architecture, charging speeds are greatly improved, allowing it to hypothetically charge around twice as fast as Porsche’s current front-runner EV, the Taycan Turbo S. While the Suzuki Jimny’s diminutive stature allows it to fit into Japan’s kei car regulations, under its skin is a tenaciously rugged off-road vehicle with a true ladder-frame construction. The Jimny Sierra is a model for the global market that takes that off-road ability and frees it from the constraints of kei regulations. Introduced in 2018, the JB74 chassis is the third generation since the model’s initial debut in 1994. Compared to the previous JB43 chassis, the new model is 50 mm shorter and 45 mm wider. This is accentuated further on the body design which takes on a bolder, more square aesthetic. The car is fitted with the 1,460 cc inline-4 DOHC K15B engine, producing 100.6 BHP/13.3 kgfm. At a glance, these figures may not seem like much, but the sustained low-end torque makes it absolutely perfect for off-road crawling. The four-wheel drive system is a part-time setup with a mechanical transfer case. Employing rigid axles on both the front and rear, the excellent suspension makes the car feel just at home when crawling over rocks or trudging through mud as it does coasting along paved roads. 4. Becoming the stuff of legend is no easy feat. But it’s entirely appropriate that a compelling and complex tale about vengeful vampires has not only lasted as long as it has, but triumphantly arisen from its resting place. From its popular 1996 debut, The Legacy of Kain series has a long-standing history across PlayStation, from introducing memorable characters to pioneering in 3D game design. So, with Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered on its way to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, and Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain and Blood Omen 2 coming to PlayStation Plus Classics, it’s the perfect time to dig up the details on why The Legacy of Kain series has endured. As a bonus, the original developers join us to recall some relevant anecdotes on the way… “I’m super proud of the way we wove our time travel plot throughout the games – writing time travel stories is hard!” – Amy Hennig, Design Manager (Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain), Director and Lead Writer (Soul Reaver, Soul Reaver 2, Legacy of Kain: Defiance) 1996 – Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain – PlayStation – Silicon Knights/Crystal Dynamics Action-adventures took a turn for the macabre as The Legacy of Kain series introduced us to the shadowy world of Nosgoth. Blood Omen set the tone with Kain seeking a cure for his vampiric curse, only to slip deeper into a moral abyss. Engaging hack-and-slash gameplay mixed with magic, shapeshifting, and puzzle-layered exploration cast an intoxicating spell encased by a smart and gripping story that laid the groundwork for all that followed. So it was no surprise that the triumphant debut of the titular vampire lord was met with a craving for more. Only three years later, that craving was satisfied… “It was one of the best-looking games for PlayStation.” – Daniel Cabuco, lead enemy artist (Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver); lead artist (Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 2) and art director (Legacy of Kain: Defiance) 1999 – Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver – PlayStation – Crystal Dynamics/Eidos Interactive If Blood Omen began the crimson-stained lineage for the series in 2D, Soul Reaver took up the trail and innovated it into fully formed 3D. This time the consequences of Kain’s actions are directly in your hands, assuming control of the iconic Raziel, a former vampire lieutenant slain by Kain. Resurrected into a wraith, Raziel is given his mission by The Elder God – to destroy Kain and restore the now-broken wasteland of Nosgoth to its former glory. The evolution into 3D allowed the series to push the boundaries of its presentation even more, especially when teamed with the already captivating narrative, which allowed players to travel between the material and spectral realms. “The writing, dialogue, and incredible voice acting all took things to the next level,” says Cabuco. “At every point the artists, designers, musicians, and engineers asked themselves how they could make the experience better. It was an incredible moment in time where every aspect was firing on all cylinders.” It’s a sentiment shared by the game’s chief of engineering, Scott Krotz: “The streaming technology we developed was great, and I think we only had one loading screen in the entire game once getting into it. The combination of solid gameplay and technology, a dark world full of interesting lore, a great story and characters, and amazing voice actors all came together to make it a pretty special game.” “The amazingly well directed cinematics with lip sync were simply mind blowing.” – Monika Erosova, head of development (Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered) 2001 – Soul Reaver 2 – PlayStation 2 – Crystal Dynamics/Eidos Interactive After Soul Reaver introduced the iconic Raziel, its sequel vastly expanded on his human past, traveling through time to reveal Nosgoth’s secrets which have immense repercussions on not only Raziel and his home, but Kain as well. Between its combat, puzzles, and exploration, Soul Reaver 2 successfully elevated much of what made its predecessor so well received, but a particular spotlight fell on its story and characters. “Amy Hennig masterfully interconnected Raziel’s journey back to Blood Omen,” says Erosova. “I enjoyed exploring the world in different eras.” “Soul Reaver 2 was originally supposed to be on the original PlayStation, but our team was determined to use the power of PS2 to elevate the game’s graphics and animation,” reveals Amy Hennig, who worked as design manager on Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain, and director and lead writer on Soul Reaver, Soul Reaver 2 and Legacy of Kain: Defiance. “We ported the game onto the new hardware in a matter of weeks.” 2002 – Blood Omen 2 – PlayStation 2 – Crystal Dynamics/Eidos Interactive In a smart connection to the time travel chaos of Soul Reaver 2, the series went back to its roots in Blood Omen 2 by exploring an alternate timeline set after the events of the very first Blood Omen. This gave players a chance to enjoy Kain’s undead life again, aside from his antagonistic turn in the Soul Reaver games, layering a now rich and involving lore. While paying homage to its vampiric roots where Kain is able to feed off enemies or civilians to replenish his health, novel gameplay elements like weapon durability kept the combat and challenge fresh. 2003 – Legacy of Kain: Defiance – PlayStation 2 – Crystal Dynamics/Eidos Interactive After two games each where we played as Kain or Raziel, it was perhaps inevitable that we’d get a chance to control both characters in the same game – which is where Legacy of Kain: Defiance swooped in. “Given we were revealing crucial things about our characters’ motivations and the world that shaped them, it was critical for us to make Kain and Raziel dual protagonists, and to cut back and forth between their playable chapters,” explains Hennig. Using different abilities helped differentiate between the bitter enemies in terms of gameplay, while the story offered the now expected – and satisfying – philosophical pondering on determinism and morality to resolve Kain and Raziel’s blood-stained conflict. “We wanted to tell a great, complex story with flawed but compelling characters in a captivating and original world,” says Hennig. “It’s incredibly gratifying to see how formative and indelible these games and stories have been for our audience.” You’ll be able to get a taste of the series’ lasting legacy when Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain and Blood Omen 2 arrive on PlayStation Plus Premium November 19, and when Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered hits PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on December 10. 5. Ghostface is coming to Mortal Kombat 1 starting November 19, and for as long as guest characters from other worlds have been a feature in our games, Woodsboro’s own serial killer has been in the mix as a dream inclusion. Horror villains have always been great fits for the severe, macabre, over-the-top universe of Mortal Kombat, and it was just a matter of time for Scream’s anonymous assailant, Ghostface. That time is here, and in the process of designing Ghostface for Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns, we had to answer a bunch of questions. How does this horror-movie villain translate into a fighting game? And how will Ghostface look, sound, and play like? The overall look is familiar of course: classic mask, robe, and knife. Although, this presented surprising challenges in a fast-paced videogame. Most costumes have physics-based cloth portions, but no other costume is entirely cloth. And aside from the robe being soft material from head to toe, there are long strings of ghostly cloth fringe trailing off it. These are just the kinds of things that can easily perform unexpectedly and get twisted up upon themselves in the heat of kombat, unless proper care is taken. Our technical artists and animators worked back and forth to iron everything out, so to speak, ensuring Ghostface’s iconic duds look their best. Although Mortal Kombat is famous for masked ninjas, our kombatants have elaborate facial animations that accentuate the action. Even among our masked characters, there are usually skin or gear options to reveal the full-face during gameplay, if you desire. But not so here, since the rigid, unfeeling mask is the outfit’s signature detail. In the absence of facial expressions, we took care to capture extra character movements during the motion capture performance and in-game animating so that, just like in the films, a lot can come across with the slightest head tilt or gesture—malice or humor, frustration or elation, rage or reservation. And the sound is just as important as the movement. Roger L. Jackson returns to reprise his recurring role as Ghostface’s voice from the films, arguably the most memorable recurring thread through the franchise. Thanks to the easily accessible voice mod devices in the fictional town of Woodsboro, California, many different psychos over the years have disguised their own voices using Roger’s modulated one, and our killers are no different. And we do know who’s under there. Scream franchise fans know that Ghostface is an identity assumed by different unhinged people in every movie, so there are many surprising and iconic portrayals to choose from. While the character’s face is covered up by the mask during fights, the killer underneath is revealed occasionally during climactic moments. For the films, this usually occurs with a dramatic flourish as the identities of the killers are finally exposed. For Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns, it’s during high-resolution cinematic Fatal Blows and finishing moves. And our ‘canon’ Ghostface for these moments is none other than Billy Loomis, one of the Ghostface killers from the original Scream film. And he’s not the only blast from the past lurking under that mask, behind that voice, in the shadows. In the films, there usually isn’t just one Ghostface, and that’s true here too. There are a few surprises for long-time fans of Mortal Kombat with a keen eye to discover, including who’s joined in to assist an OG, Woodsboro Ghostface. Afterall, this isn’t the first time a Ghostface sought a little hired serial killer help! Ghostface’s moveset in Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns is also one to die for. Of course, the character is brimming with bloody finishers in the form of all-new Fatalities, an Animality, and Brutalities that winners can dole out after victories. Revisiting the classic films themselves for scenes to pay homage to, deciding what kinds of attacks to have, and how they’d lead into various attacks, was a grim delight. Scream fans may have their guesses of most surprising and (pardon me) gutting take downs of beloved characters they’d expect to see referenced, and while I wouldn’t dare spoil them here, we did make sure to include a few fun twists that you might not expect. We hope you enjoy when Ghostface joins the roster on November 19 as part of the early access period for Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns Expansion owners on PlayStation 5, followed by wide availability for purchase on November 26. Masters of Light | Coming December 18 Play Video Become The Wanderer, a powerful being of light, and wield powerful magic in this spellcasting adventure from Coven. Alien: Rogue Incursion | Coming December 19 Play Video The sci-fi horror has gone gold, and to celebrate, Survivos shared a new story trailer and teased some new details as to what players can expect when they (crash) land on LV-354. Classic Alien themes – corporate corruption, personal greed, and professional hubris – are all represented, creating a perfect storm of conditions for a Xenomorph outbreak. Gemini Exoplanet Solutions’ experimentation on the perfect organism has resulted in a tougher, faster, and more unpredictable version than what Zula Hendricks – and the player – has seen before. Arm yourself on December 19. Hitman World of Assassination | Coming March 27, 2025 Agent 47 has decided to do more reconnaissance before heading to PS VR2 next year, with the team at IO Interactive taking extra time to deliver an amazing experience that meets players’ high standards. The intent is to create one of the most immersive Hitman experiences to date. The entire main campaign of Hitman World of Assassination will be playable with full adaptive triggers and haptic support while adding positional interactions, which require players to physically mimic actions to turn off items, hack computers, and other actions to get the job done. 8. We are thrilled to finally announce that Mare, our captivating VR puzzle adventure, launches on PS VR2 today. Our team is excited to share our labor of love and all the unique features of this enhanced PS VR2 version. First, please enjoy our launch trailer: Play Video As you can see from the video as well as the gameplay clips below, Mare features a beautiful, easy-on-the-eye art style, which combined with a minimalist storytelling approach, creates a unique world that players will lose themselves in as they journey through it. In Mare, you’ll play a benevolent force, embodied in-world as a mechanical bird. Early on, you’ll encounter a young girl, and you’ll navigate through this adventure together, helping each other on the way and ultimately uncovering their fate. You will use lightning-like powers to aid your NPC companion’s path by interacting and activating objects that will shape new pathways for her to traverse. You’ll need to keep a close eye on her at all times to keep her safe, as malevolent foes will unexpectedly surface and attack her when unwatched. Risking her safety to unlock a new path could put your friendship on the line. When this moment comes, what will you do? Taking Mare to new heights with PS VR2 At its heart, Mare is an immersive experience that draws players into a mesmerizing, one-of-a-kind atmosphere. To enhance this, we also made use of PS VR2 Headset feedback. As example, flying into a stormcloud, you’ll feel the rain dropping onto your face. Mare takes full advantage of Foveated rendering on PS VR2, adding a significant boost in performance, with the game running at a steady 90fps. Eye-tracking gameplay and game modes One of the key elements of this version is that the player can now enjoy and complete the full game using eye tracking input only. To enable this Mare features two game modes, Enhanced and Classic. Classic mode uses the PS VR2 eye-tracking feature to create a well-balanced atmospheric experience. The player can both select and interact with the various puzzle gimmicks just by looking. This took special effort by us to design a clean layout of gameplay objects, so eye-tracking selections would not happen by accident. Fortunately, as PS VR2 eye tracking is very precise, this allowed us to minimize accidental selections with eye tracking. Enhanced mode uses the PS VR2 Sense controllers and includes more puzzles and content as well as additional interactions, such as dragging objects with lightning. Some stages were re-designed and expanded to accommodate these new improved features and puzzle complexity. Also, the Sense Controller’s in-game avatar features a handy compass, making it easier to keep track of your AI companion’s location and offering helpful hints along your journey. Mare features a world crafted like a painting, with every environment meticulously modeled from scratch, this and an ethereal musical score makes the world come alive on PS VR2. We’re thrilled for PlayStation players to dive deep into our story and become part of our world. View the full article
  9. My name is Celine Tricart, creator of Masters of Light—an XR Game of the Year nominee—and co-founder of the game studio Coven. I’m incredibly excited to bring our thrilling new action-adventure game to PlayStation VR2. As a longtime PlayStation fan—since the original Silent Hill!—I want to bring PS VR2 players an experience that feels unique and spectacular: a game where every move, every battle, and every victory is something you truly feel. With the immersive power and unique features of PS VR2, Masters of Light delivers an experience as intense and breathtaking as the story behind it. Play Video What is Masters of Light? Masters of Light thrusts players into a galaxy on the brink of destruction. A black hole at the center of the galaxy has unleashed an army of Shadows, spreading chaos and darkness. You are The Wanderer, a powerful being of light and the galaxy’s last defense. Armed with magical powers, your mission is to crush the darkness, rescue the Sisters of Light, and restore hope. Each battle will test your strength, courage, and skill as you journey deeper toward the black hole’s core, where the ultimate challenge awaits. Masters of Light features high-energy 1st person combat where focus, timing, and strategy are keys to victory. For example, some enemies (shown above) are protected by unbreakable armor. The player must wait for it to attack, then block and parry right after for a chance to defeat it. Combat like never before Masters of Light takes first-person spell-casting combat to a new level of intensity. Wield raw energy to unleash explosive attacks, conjure powerful shields, and send waves of Shadows scattering with devastating blasts. Each battle demands sharp focus, strategic timing, and unrelenting force. With every strike, you’ll feel the power of your spells reverberate, leaving you exhilarated as you push back the darkness and fight to bring balance to the galaxy. For those intrigued by the game’s lore, hidden ruins across the galaxy hold echoes of a forgotten past. Reactivate these ancient sites to uncover secrets about your origins and the cosmic forces that shaped the universe. Whether you’re drawn to high-stakes combat or delving into mysteries, Masters of Light offers a deeply immersive experience that rewards both skill and curiosity. Hidden in the 36 levels are ancient ruins that the player can reactivate to unlock pieces of the lore. Inspired by empowerment Masters of Light draws inspiration from my earlier VR project, Fight Back, which focused on self-defense empowerment using real-world techniques. That project sparked something in me—a drive to take the feeling of empowerment even further. With Masters of Light, we embraced our core pillars of beauty, physicality, and confidence to guide every part of the game’s development. At Coven, we set out to create something beautiful, engaging, and challenging, while ensuring it’s accessible to a wide range of players. On PS VR2, every player becomes a superhero, discovering new abilities, conquering foes, and experiencing a powerful sense of strength and exhilaration. New enemies and superpowers are unlocked as players progress in the game, climaxing in insane battles that will leave you breathless. Pushing the PS VR2 features to the max The PS VR2’s advanced graphics bring Masters of Light’s mystical world to life with vibrant detail, enhanced by HDR and higher-resolution textures. Every scene pops, from the supernatural glow of your powers to the neon constellations you’re liberating, making each environment feel immersive and alive. The PS VR2’s eye-tracked dynamic foveated rendering and 90Hz refresh rate keep the visuals crisp and the action smooth, allowing players to target enemies instinctively with just a glance. This precise aiming system keeps you focused on the action, rewarding quick reflexes and heightening every battle. The PS VR2 Sense controllers further enhance realism with adaptive triggers and advanced haptics. Each spell cast, shield raised, and strike delivered resonates in your hands with weighty feedback. Paired with subtle headset vibrations, every moment of combat feels tangible and consequential, pulling you deeper into the experience. Already celebrated for its gorgeous art, Masters of Light reaches new heights thanks to upscaled skyboxes and graphics on PS VR2. A soundtrack that draws you in The sensory experience of Masters of Light goes beyond visuals and haptics—it’s also deeply shaped by its soundtrack. During development, we found that synthwave perfectly matched the game’s retro-futuristic style. We crafted a dynamic soundscape with Waveshaper’s high-energy beats for combat and Paul Zimmermann’s cinematic pieces for emotional depth. Take on the challenge Masters of Light offers an epic journey across 36 challenging levels. Each level is replayable, allowing players to perfect their performance and strive for a three-star rating and the coveted Perfectionist trophy. For those seeking the ultimate challenge, we’ve included “Grand Master” difficulty mode—where enemies are stronger, and the HUD is disabled, putting your skills to the test. The game also features leaderboards for each level, with global and weekly rankings that reset every Sunday. Only the most skilled players will rise to the top. The Snipe power allows players to target a distant enemy with one hand, and damage it with the other hand. Ready to rise? Masters of Light on PS VR2 is for those ready to embrace intense gameplay and full immersion. When the game launches on December 18, it’s your chance to shine and become the ultimate Master of Light. Are you ready to step into the light? View the full article
  10. Hey, PlayStation fans. The team at Flat2VR Studios is beyond excited to bring you a totally unhinged, one-of-a-kind musical experience with Trombone Champ: Unflattened—arriving November 26 on PS VR2. This release marks a huge milestone for us at Flat2VR Studios—it’s our first official PS VR2 adaptation, and we’re thrilled to be bringing our take on this unique, BAFTA-nominated gem to the PlayStation community. Play Video A new take on VR rhythm Trombone Champ: Unflattened is not your dad’s rhythm game. There are no blocks to slice or balls to smash, and you don’t need to flail your arms like an octopus in a mosh pit. While other games ask you to zone out and follow along to a pre-set beat, Trombone Champ: Unflattened lets you wield the most majestic of brass instruments—the trombone, and lets you take control of the music itself. You’re not just reacting to a song like a musical lemming—you’re performing it. Every note, slide, and toot is yours to control, letting you decide whether to stick with the melody or go rogue in Improv Mode with a jazz solo wild enough to have your music teacher reaching for the tissues. Campaign promises Our all-new Campaign Mode offers an epic journey packed with surprises for beginners and Trombone Champ veterans alike. It eases you in, letting you get comfortable with the instrument’s quirks and rhythm. But don’t get too cozy. The campaign ramps up faster than a trombone glissando, introducing complex tracks and challenges that push your rhythm, timing, and ability to adapt. Every milestone you reach unlocks new tracks, and you’ll leave your mark on the leaderboards as you compete for the illustrious title of the one true Trombone Champ. Hornucopia Let’s be honest. One trombone just isn’t enough. How many is too many? We’re not sure yet, but we’re definitely going to find out. At launch, you’ll have over 20 trombones to unlock, each with its own sound, style, and… personality. From a purrfect cat trombone that meows as you play to a ridiculously floppy pool noodle that bends with every slide or even a melting ice cream cone, each trombone has a unique look, sound, and feel. And with dozens more unlockable trombones rolling out in the coming weeks and months, there will always be a new piece of brass to chase after. As if that weren’t enough for you relentless collectors, Trombone Champ: Unflattened also offers a full set of collectible Tromboner Cards. Yes, they’re called Tromboner Cards, and yes, they’re exactly as ridiculous as they sound. With 50 individual cards packed with absurd trombone trivia and mysterious lore, these cards are truly another thing to unlock and collect. Think you’ve got what it takes to snag them all? Just don’t lose your grip on the slide (or your grip on reality) along the way. Make it make sense Thanks to the advanced haptics and adaptive triggers of the PS VR2 Sense controllers, Trombone Champ: Unflattened lets you feel each note as you play. Whether you’re executing a delicate note or unleashing a full blast, the tactile feedback makes each musical moment feel impactful. Plus, with the game running at a smooth 120Hz on PlayStation 5 and delivering crisp, vibrant visuals in 4K HDR, every toot and slide looks as impressive as it feels. The dynamic environments and audience reactions adjust to your playing, adding an extra layer of immersion to every performance as you bring the music to life. Setting the Stage As our debut PS VR2 adaptation, Trombone Champ: Unflattened, kicks off Flat2VR Studios’ mission to take the classics and give them new life in VR. This is just the beginning for us—we have more in the pipeline, each reimagined to fully leverage the immersive power of VR. We’re thrilled to have PlayStation players join us on this journey as we work to push PS VR2 gaming to new heights. So, whether you’re a rhythm game enthusiast or just looking for a unique, laugh-out-loud experience, get ready to join the ranks of trombone legends on November 26. This is your chance—don’t blow it. 11. We are thrilled to share an update regarding Hitman World of Assassination‘s upcoming launch on PS VR2, and what you can expect when you take on your assignments as Agent 47. With brand new features such as dual-wielding, full ambidexterity, room-scale implementation, as well as general improved VR experience through new intuitive controls and gameplay mechanics, you will have all the tools you need to complete your mission as a Silent Assassin. New release date First of all, we would like to address the change in the release date. Initially slated for December 2024, the launch of Hitman World of Assassination on PS VR2 has been rescheduled to March 27, 2025. This decision to move the release date was not made lightly; we know there was a lot of demand to bring Hitman on PS VR2, and we were excited to see the great reception following the announcement. As such, our priority will always remain to deliver an amazing experience that meets the high standards our players expect. The additional time will not only allow our team to polish the game, ensuring that every aspect is refined, immersive, and seamless, but also to add a few extras that we really wanted to include in this PS VR2 version, such as active reloading. The complete Hitman WOA experience on PS VR2 The whole main campaign of Hitman World of Assassination will be playable on PS VR2, meaning that you will be free to explore 20 unique locations, each with their own living and breathing world. From the glamorous runways of a fashion show in Paris, to the dizzying heights of Dubai’s skyscrapers, or the rapturous crowd of a high-speed race in Miami, you will travel all around the world to find your next target. Careful consideration will be required to evaluate every available opportunity to complete your mission, and with over 100 weapons and items at your disposal, you can replay each location as many times as you want, to complete your objectives in as many ways as you wish. Enhancing the Hitman VR experience Dual-wielding and full ambidexterity were two of the most asked features to be brought to Hitman World of Assassination in VR, so we are happy to share that they will be available on PS VR2. You will now be able to execute different tasks at the same time, whether it be picking up an item crucial to your mission, whilst holding a weapon to deal with a bothersome guard, or simply equipping two Silverballers for more… efficiency. Verify your age to view this content. Verify your age to view this content. Speaking of weapons, active reloading will now allow you to manually eject ammo, grab a new clip, and insert it back into your weapon, giving you full control of your gear. Depending on the situation, You can also holster your weapons on your body, allowing you to quickly hide or take your weapon out for added immersion. Finally, the sniper’s scope will now be fully usable, giving you the opportunity to show off your marksman skills. The PS VR2 version of Hitman World of Assassination also introduces positional interactions, which transform how players engage with the game world. Rather than simply pressing a button to trigger events, players are required to physically mimic actions, such as toggling a TV on or off by touching the screen, hacking CCTV footage by tapping on a keyboard, or poisoning a glass by holding and dropping a vial over it. This feature extends to opening doors, creating smoother and more natural interactions. Furthermore, quest items now remain physical and can be inspected in hand, allowing players to utilize them directly within set pieces—swiping a keycard or turning a lock in a door, for example. Verify your age to view this content. Verify your age to view this content. Finally, to enhance one of the most emblematic mechanics of Hitman, the game is also bringing a more physics-based approach for taking disguises, where players can take an outfit using positional control, grabbing, and momentum, significantly enhancing the immersion and realism of the gameplay. We appreciate your patience while we work on creating an enhanced and even more immersive Hitman experience on PS VR2, through its new VR features and immersive gameplay mechanics. We look forward to seeing you step into the World of Assassination on March 27, 2025. View the full article
  12. We’re excited to say that Alien: Rogue Incursion is ready for your PS VR2 – we’ve gone gold and are putting the finishing touches on the game, which is releasing on December 19. To celebrate, we have a brand-new trailer that delves deeper into Zula’s story on LV-354, also known as Purdan. Play Video How did we go about making this trailer? Trailers are tricky things. You need to quickly break through the noise of everyday life, grab the audience’s attention, and get them excited to see more. It seems logical that you’d show the most fantastic, and exciting content. But that approach doesn’t entirely work – fans often complain that trailers give away too much detail about the film or game. Trailers need to curate the key components that fans expect, showcasing critical features in a compelling way and teasing elements that will blow players away, all while telling a self-contained story that begins and ends in roughly two minutes or less. VR games need to both establish the world that you’ll be immersed in and to communicate how you will operate in that environment. We have 2 minutes to make you feel that sense of presence and wonder. Trailers often focus on a particular theme or feature of the game that the team wants to showcase. So far, for Alien: Rogue Incursion, we’ve released trailers for our Hero Reveal, Enemies, Weapons & Gear, etc. Fans of the Alien franchise are also hugely invested in the story, so this trailer introduces the audience to the larger narrative, providing the set-up of why Zula Hendricks is on LV-354, Purdan. What happened to Zula’s friend and former squad mate there? What deadly experiments have the researchers at this facility been messing with? Here is a breakdown of how we approached this trailer and told the “story of the story.” One of our early creative decisions was that whatever happened on Purdan had already happened. Zula is stepping into the aftermath of some event that has left Castor’s Cradle – the research facility – infested with horrifying Xenomorphs. Picking up the story after the facility has been compromised allows us to jump right into the suspense and action. The trailer follows a classic three-act structure, where each act has a particular focus. Act One of the trailer’s focuses was “Mystery.” Zula and Davis One head to Purdan to meet with Zula’s former squad mate, Ben Carver. While approaching Castor’s Cradle, they notice their communications are jammed. Suddenly, they are fired upon by missiles and crash land at the facility. Act One of the trailer presents Zula -and the audience – with many questions that need answering. Act Two of our story trailer focuses on revealing those events and showcasing the “Dawning Horror.” We see inside the facility and hear the voices of the people who work there. We weave in classic Alien themes like corporate corruption, personal greed, and professional hubris, all of which create a perfect storm of conditions for a Xenomorph outbreak. Hearing this dialog over the imagery of destruction, smoke, fire, and blood, we know the facility has already fallen. Now for the Big Finish! Our third act is The Enemy Revealed, where we see what Zula is up against. More truths are revealed about the facility—including that Gemini Exoplanet Solutions was experimenting with Xenomorphs—and, most importantly, the Xenomorphs have already taken over. Zula has seen a lot in her storied career, but she—and the player —will discover that the Xenomorphs at Castor’s Cradle are tougher, faster, and more unpredictable than what she has encountered. They are, in a word, evolved. We’ve established by this point that danger is truly everywhere, and now we want to show players that you have the means to fight back. Armed with your weapons (M41 Prototype Pulse Rifle, Shotgun, Revolver, and Tacticals), Gear (Motion Tracker, Plasma Torch, Health Stims, Tablet), and Davis 01 at your side, you get to take the fight to them – experiencing the world of Alien like you never have before. You will finally get to feel what it’s like to step into the world of the films -Aliens in particular- and immerse yourself in an experience so visceral and real that it will change your perceptions forever. Alien: Rogue Incursion launches December 19 on PS VR2. And that’s a promise, as the game has already GONE GOLD! See you all at launch! View the full article

  18. A studio only gets to launch its very first game once! Everyone here at Dreamlit Games is incredibly excited to debut our upcoming open-world fantasy builder, Towers of Aghasba, which launches into Early Access on November 19. We can’t wait for you to experience this fantastical world as you design your island with bustling settlements and nurture thriving ecosystems while fighting off the withered invasion. Why early access? This project is an ambitious open-world sandbox developed by a small team, with core mechanics intended to let players shape their island however they like. It’s also one of the first in-development early access titles coming to PS5. By launching into early access, we can involve our community in the development process, allowing us to better balance, polish, and iterate on these core components. This allows us to introduce new content and features based directly on your feedback. You can still count on a fun, fantastical experience, with lots of content to explore right from the start of our Early Acess journey— but we’ll be adding additional polish and updates in the weeks ahead. Here’s a roadmap of what to expect from Towers of Aghasba at launch— and throughout early access: Launch content The initial launch of Towers of Aghasba is already brimming with content, deep gameplay systems, a compelling narrative, and a vast world to explore. We release with: Six regions to explore Exploration across vast open-world lands—climbing, gliding, and riding mounts Ruins and relics to discover, unlocking ancient knowledge Leisure activities (eg. fishing!) 19. Infinity Nikki is a beautiful open-world adventure that takes a distinctly different approach to theme and gameplay, focusing less on combat and more on exploration, questing, discovery, and design, all with a smart and stylish female character in the lead role. Nikki, a young girl with a love of fashion, finds a mysterious dress in the attic. When she puts it on, she and her chubby, chatty cat Momo are whisked away to a strange new world. She meets a being named Ena the Creator, who gives her the Heart of Infinity and entrusts her with finding the Miracle Outfits. I recently had an opportunity to go hands-on with the game on PS5, so let’s dive in. Play Video It’s all about the style The world of Infinity Nikki is fueled by the power of Whim, the sparks of joy and creativity that exist within us all. The way people here tend to harness their Whim energy is through fashion. Clothing is powerful self-expression, and a stylish outfit even has the power to grant its wearer new abilities. With that kind of energy woven into fabric, it’s no wonder that Stylists–talented clothing makers–are highly respected. And after Nikki gets here, she’s quickly judged to be prime Stylist material and brought into the Stylists Guild of the hamlet of Florawish. But things aren’t perfectly peaceful: there’s a strange condition going around that’s making citizens go comatose, alongside a suspicious gang of stylists up to no good. During our time in the beta, we got a chance to meet several characters, good and bad, and play through several events: joining the Stylists Guild, helping out several folks in town, investigating a case of the mysterious illness, fighting against other stylists to make the coolest outfit, and exploring a frog-filled well to stop a rampaging fish that cut off Florawish’s electric power. As a Stylist, Nikki can make clothes that grant her abilities. Early on, she’ll have two outfits–one that lets her float after jumping and another that lets her shoot purifying energy–that she can access by simply pressing a button. However, to get more fabulous powers, she’ll need to acquire sketches: blueprints for new clothing parts. There are many ways to get sketches–you can find them in chests, earn them from quests, and so on–but many of the most important outfit sketches are acquired and enhanced through Nikki’s Infinity Heart tree. In order to unlock parts of the tree, Nikki will need to find Whimstars scattered throughout the world. Seeing stars Nikki’s companion Momo can help her locate Whimstars with his finely-tuned senses, but not all Whimstars are acquired by simply walking up to them. Many are in hidden locations that require searching. Others task you with completing a platforming challenge, collecting a set of items, or using a specific power to get the Whimstar. One particularly interesting challenge type has you searching in an area to find a star-shaped object hidden in the background — some are obvious, while other hiding spots disguise star shapes in clever ways. Before Nikki can wear anything she needs materials. If you make a habit of picking up everything you see (and there’s plenty of things to collect everywhere), you shouldn’t have any problems making the key outfits, though making some of the rarer, optional accessories and optional pieces might require more effort. Once you’ve got your outfit, you have a new power to play with. During our playtest, we wore a cute waterproof ensemble for grooming animals, a bright set of overalls for catching bugs, a stylish summer hat-and-clothes set for fishing, and a heavy-duty cloak and gloves for fixing malfunctioning electronics. Each of these powers serves a purpose, either for collecting more materials or solving puzzles in order to progress. We were particularly enchanted with animal grooming, which plays an adorable custom animation for every critter Nikki gets her soapy hands on. Infinity Nikki is brimming with personality and potential, and you won’t have to wait much longer to dress for success: the game is due to launch on December 5. View the full article

  22. Hey everyone, Thierry here speaking for Sabotage. Our friends at PlayStation extended an invitation to share more about everything that has happened since the launch of Sea of Stars, and how that led our team to work full-time for the better part of a year on a major free update called Dawn of Equinox. Play Video So let’s dive into a summary of what’s included, namely general updates, combat 2.0, and couch co-op. Updates Along with countless bug fixes and micro adjustments, we added a bonus pre-rendered cinematic cutscene and finally got to revamp the game’s first hour by adding combat animations for the kid versions of our heroes. This allowed us to ditch the flashback structure by having action directly in the intro, something we sadly had to give up on during production. We also added difficulty presets, a bunch of new Relics to customize the experience, and even a comprehensive Speedrun Mode designed with the help of our community. There’s some new music, character portraits, and animations—the list goes on. Combat 2.0 The update brings two key changes to the combat system: Sticky Combo Points and Mystery Locks. Along with a comprehensive balancing pass, of course. Sticky Combo Points: The gist of it here is that Combo Points now remain after battle, giving combo moves a lot more use overall, whether to open more aggressively on a regular fight, or providing more options to deal damage of the different types when dealing with locks. This one mainly addresses the feeling of there not being a enough variety of moves in the game. The vision was always to give each character a small kit (MOBA-style), where each move has situational utility, rather than a big list where players pigeonhole themselves into only using their couple of favorites. All good intentions, but while the game boasts over 40 unique and custom-animated moves total, the scarcity of Combo Points meant players seldom engaged with most of them, reducing the perceived scope of combat to feeling like only having three skills per character. Mystery Locks: This is another one that should always have been there. In short, Mystery Locks bring a new gameplay loop around revealing how to break enemies’ spells whenever they are first encountered. Instead of displaying the damage types required for each lock, they are hidden, requiring the player to try different attacks to see what will break each lock. Note that this is on a per enemy type, per spell basis, meaning that progression toward revealing Mystery Locks is saved in real-time. The main effect on the experience here is that there will be more enemy spells flying overall, bringing a small uptick in difficulty by relying on the occurrence of more gnarly enemy moves rather than relying solely on the intricate balance between damage done and damage received. This change also adds a “Reveal” function to some of the character skills and combos, adding more layers of strategy based on whether it’s time to map a new enemy’s spells, or to go all out with damage. Combined with Sticky Combo Points and difficulty presets, Mystery Locks gives us the definitive edition of the combat system for Sea of Stars. Couch co-op (or online using Share Play) We knew this one would be challenging given the hundreds of cutscenes, interactive objects, camera work, puzzles, menus, NPC interactions, and countless other things that would simply break in thousands of ways if more than one player had full control over the game’s world. But the co-op dream was very much alive within the team, so we went for it, manually implementing every single edgecase one at a time until we had a full-on three-player mode. You can even use PS5’s Share Play feature to play online co-op with a friend (PlayStation Plus required, here’s how to use it). In combat: Combat initiates when any player touches an enemy or projectile. In this mode, it doesn’t matter who controls which character in the overworld; players take turns at random picking the next action from the character of their choice. Whenever an action occurs, all players can chime in to perform Team Blocks and Team Hits for even more bonus effects. For example, whenever all three players time a block properly, the damage is always zero. Out in the world: We aimed for maximum freedom outside combat. All three players can run, swim, climb, shop, change equipment, talk to NPCs, trigger cutscenes, initiate combat, etc. Anything that a solo player could do, we wanted to make available for all. There’s even 1v1 Wheels now. Along with a friendly bubble to bring any stray players back into the adventure, a high-five mechanic brings a fun little way to interact with one another while gaining a short speed boost in the process. Oh, we also made the animation sets required for fishing to be available for all characters. Looking ahead With the Dawn of Equinox update in the rear view, the team is now focused on the upcoming free DLC Throes of the Watchmaker, which is on track to be released in the Spring of 2025. We hope you enjoyed this behind-the-scenes look into what’s been going on at Sabotage over the past year. Thank you all once again for the overwhelming support. Whether you’ll be playing for the first time or going for another run, we hope you will enjoy Sea of Stars in its full expression. Sea of Stars: Dawn of Equinox content update is now available on PS4 and PS5. Safe travels! View the full article
  23. Hi everyone! The Forever Skies team just surprise-released a PlayStation 5 exclusive demo, and it’s available today! The demo is specially designed for our PlayStation fans so we’ve made sure it’s got a lot to offer. Play Video Forever Skies is a first-person, sci-fi survival game where you build, fly, and customize your own mobile airship base while exploring a ruined Earth. So let’s set the scene first. When a perpetual toxic dust cloud enveloped the surface of the Earth following an ecological disaster, humanity made a last-ditch stand by relocating to makeshift towers that rose above the dust layer, relying on airships to move around. When all hope was lost, the last remnants of humanity fled into orbit. You play as a scientist from this last pocket of civilization, sent back to Earth on a crucial mission to find a cure for an illness spreading throughout the space station that houses the last of humanity. Our demo is a specially designed vertical slice of the game that provides a streamlined introduction to some of our best features. It should take you around 1.5 – 2.5 hours to finish. So what can you expect? First you’ll crash-land back on Earth and need to hit the ground running. The details of what went wrong with the expedition before yours are scarce, so you better start piecing together what details you can. Scavenge your surroundings for supplies, use technology to unlock tools to help you collect food and water to survive, and most importantly, get your airship flight ready to take off and explore the world. Follow the trail of story objectives as you explore towers that served as radio hubs, small makeshift towns, and wind farms from humanity’s past efforts to rebuild. Learn what it takes to survive here, extracting resources from the air or fishing for dust moths to eat. Build and customize your airship to make it feel like your own and experience being a scientist as you use technology and smarts to best the hostile world you’ve returned to. This custom snippet of our story and basic game progression takes around an hour if you follow the objectives. After that, you can continue to explore the world more freely, with a few open-world objectives to guide your sightseeing. We’ve also added some great PlayStation 5 features to the demo. Thanks to The DualSense controller’s adaptive triggers, tools like the deck extractor, build tool, and scanner each feel unique when you use them. We’ve also integrated haptic feedback for these tools and for other moments like when you’re piloting your airship for example. We’ve redirected some VO prompts to play through the controller speaker and we made sure the demo supports both Performance and High Fidelity modes so you can play to match your preferences. Most notably though we’ve added a special in-game reward for those truly dedicated scientists who complete the entire demo, by finishing all the objectives, you’ll earn a free PlayStation-exclusive airship. You’ll be able to paint your airship in PlayStation-inspired hues of blue, and this skin will carry over into the full game when it launches—just be sure to keep your demo save intact on your console. That said though, we couldn’t pack everything our game has to offer into the demo. In the full game, you’ll also get to explore below the toxic dust, where an entirely new and mutant ecosystem has evolved. You’ll have access to even more tools and technology to survive and thrive, take on the threat of advanced flora and fauna that evolved in our absence, create even more advanced airships, and discover many more unique locations. But most importantly, you’ll be able to play the full game in either a single-player or online co-op with up to three friends. We know we’ve got a really big and dedicated fanbase of PlayStation players waiting for the full game, so we hope this special demo gives you a great first taste of what’s to come. We put a lot of work into it and can’t wait to hear your feedback. So, head over to PlayStation Store, download the demo, and start exploring. And if you really enjoyed the demo, please give us a wishlist so you’ll be notified when the full game releases in early 2025. Thanks so much for reading, and see you in the skies! 25. From on-track Ray Tracing to unprecedented detail with 8K, discover how EA Sports and Codemasters utilize the groundbreaking PS5 Pro technology to make F1 24 look and play better. Si Lumb, Technical Producer at Codemasters, shares insight into what players can expect when playing F1 24 on PS5 Pro — plus, more details about Season 4 and an upcoming Free-Play trial. Enhanced for PS5 Pro, F1 24 takes full advantage of the console’s exclusive technologies and improved graphical capabilities depending on the display option players choose in the settings menu. “PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) allows us to push a Ray Traced image to 4K without sacrificing image quality in Quality Mode,” says Si. “The increased power in the PS5 Pro’s GPU gives us the ability to double the 120Hz resolution in Performance Mode, and with some clever re-ordering of the frame, we have even managed to put the 32 Million pixels of 8K at 60Hz in Resolution Mode.” Whilst Ray Tracing is available on PS5 in F1 24 race replays, the power of the PS5 Pro enables this technology during on-track racing when selecting Quality Mode. “Ray Tracing allows us to simulate light to enhance realism, making reflections, shadows, and lighting more lifelike. These enhancements result in a more photorealistic experience, especially on the glossy and mirror-like chassis of the cars, the undulating and detailed track terrain, or the varied circuit surroundings. This is even more prominent in wet conditions, where reflections from puddles or shiny surfaces play a significant role in the immersion.” In a first for EA Sports, the PS5 Pro F1 24 enhancements enable 8K/60Hz support when using a compatible display in Resolution Mode. All 25 circuits in the game are improved both on and off the track, and with variable weather and time of day options for each, players are bound to discover a new favorite in 8K/60Hz. “For the ultimate showcase of 8K visuals, I’d recommend Spa Francorchamps at sunset in clear weather. The elevation changes and dense foliage at Spa, combined with the incredible detail and depth offered by 8K, make for a visually stunning experience. The track’s sweeping corners and long straights will show off the high pixel count, while the dynamic lighting and shadows give you a real sense of immersion as the light shifts across the circuit.” By leveraging the power of the PS5 Pro to work in harmony with F1 24’s EGO Engine, the development team plans to push the limits of graphical performance for future releases. “We’ve learned a lot from this release, and the groundwork laid in F1 24 will help us take even greater advantage of the PS5 Pro’s power in the future. We’re especially interested in expanding our use of technologies like PSSR across more modes and further optimizing our Ray Tracing and high frame rate features. As we continue to push the limits of the EGO engine, we look forward to delivering even more groundbreaking advancements in upcoming F1 titles.” No matter which graphical mode players choose, the PS5 Pro enhancements result in noticeable differences throughout the game when you load up F1 24 for the first time. “Whether it’s increased clarity in the Performance Mode, the sharper details and more immersive visuals of our new 8K Resolution Mode, or the dramatic improvements to lighting and reflections—thanks to Ray Tracing—in Quality Mode, each adds to the realism, immersion, and scale in bringing the sport of F1 to life on your screen.” For F1 24’s Season 4, players across all PlayStation platforms can race to unlock a number of new customization items, with one such item being fit for a champion. Plus, a new Pro Challenge at Austin’s Circuit of the Americas featuring Oscar Piastri, and a selection of Race Scenarios, including a pair from Abu Dhabi 2021, each with rewards usable throughout the game. Keep an eye out for the full reveal on November 19. For those yet to pick up F1 24, there’s no better time, as from November 21-24, F1 24 will be free to download and play, with the opportunity to test drive the entire game, including its PS5 Pro features alongside a double XP period for Podium Pass. Everything from the revamped Career mode through to the thrilling multiplayer will be available, with all progress made carrying over to the full game. View the full article
