Become mighty with reality augments You’ll be granted a randomized choice of two Reality Augments at different intervals during your match. The longer you survive in the match, the more Reality Augments you’ll collect. Reality Augments can do things like let you drive without using fuel, give you different weapons, grant you Glider redeploy for the rest of the match, and more. Hurdle your way to victory Sprinting at an obstacle will now have you hurdling over or onto them. Use this maneuver to surprise your opponents and gain the high ground. Get creative with a combination of sprinting, mantling, and hurdling to outplay your opponents. Take up new weaponry There’s a whole new arsenal of weapons scattered across the Island. Launch yourself with the Shockwave Hammer, fire ballistic blades with the Ex-Caliber Rifle, and bring the thunder with the Thunder Shotgun. Also be sure to check out the Maven Auto Shotgun, Tactical Pistol, Red-Eye Assault Rifle, and Twin Mag SMG. Claim your territory Stick around a point-of-interest’s (POI’s) capture point to capture it. POI’s you’ve claimed will display your team’s Banners, making sure your competition knows who controls the territory. Capturing a POI will reward your team with loot, and in a POI under your squad’s control, Chests and opponents will be marked. Stay vigilant, others may try to claim the POI first. Nature can be your greatest ally Be aware of your surroundings, but in a good way — you never know what advantages are nearby. Grab some Slap Berries to gain Effective Health and short-term unlimited Energy regen, build a snowball and roll inside of it, and use Kinetic Ore to pull off some physics sorcery on your opponents. The Chapter 4 Season 1 Battle Pass This Season’s Battle Pass summons a new cast of combatants. With this Season’s Battle Pass purchase, you’ll immediately unlock the Selene Outfit, and by progressing in the Battle Pass, you can unlock Outfits like the ruler The Ageless, and the in-your-nightmares Doom Slayer. Later on in the Season, you’ll be able to unlock monster hunter for hire, Geralt of Rivia himself. Behold Fortnite in full Unreal Engine 5 With the release of the new Chapter, Fortnite Battle Royale now makes use of Unreal Engine 5’s newest, most innovative features, via Unreal Engine 5.1. Next-gen Unreal Engine 5 features such as Nanite, Lumen, Virtual Shadow Maps, and Temporal Super Resolution are now available in Fortnite Battle Royale on PlayStation 5. Nanite, Lumen, virtual shadow maps, and temporal super resolution Nanite Nanite provides highly-detailed architectural geometry. Specifically, buildings are rendered from millions of polygons in real time, and each brick, stone, wood plank, and wall trim is modeled. Natural landscapes are highly-detailed too. Individual trees have around 300,000 polygons, and each stone, flower, and blade of grass is modeled. Lumen Lumen reflections provide high quality ray traced reflections on glossy materials and water. Lumen provides real-time global illumination at 60 FPS. You’ll see beautiful interior spaces with bounce lighting, plus characters reacting to the lighting of their surroundings. (For example, red rugs may bounce red light onto your Outfit.) Also, Outfits that have emissive (a.k.a. glowing) qualities will scatter light on nearby objects and surfaces. Virtual shadow maps Virtual Shadow Maps allow for highly detailed shadowing. Each brick, leaf, and modeled detail will cast a shadow, and character self-shadowing is extremely accurate. This means that things like hats and other small details on characters will also cast shadows. Temporal Super Resolution (TSR) Temporal Super Resolution is a replacement for Temporal Anti-Aliasing in Fortnite, and allows for high-quality visuals at a high framerate. The ‘Gran Turismo World Series’ 2022 in Monaco proved a fitting start to Gran Turismo’s 25th Anniversary celebrations. A four-day festival of racing saw three champions crowned, a new Ferrari Vision Gran Turismo unveiled, a tight Pro-Am race in which BWT Alpine F1 Team driver Esteban Ocon was just pipped for the win, another race between the GT Sophy AI agent and some of the leading World Series drivers, an online appearance by seven-time F1 World Champion Sir Lewis Hamilton, stunning cars on display, and plenty of opportunities for the Gran Turismo community to get involved and win prizes in-game. First up was the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing GT Cup on Thursday, 24 November. After two highly-competitive Semi-finals and a last-chance Repechage, 12 drivers lined up for the Grand Final, 30-laps around the Fuji International Speedway in the TOYOTA GR010 HYBRID – the real version of which was displayed at the event. It was 2018 Nations Cup champion, Brazilian Igor Fraga, who delivered a dominant performance to take the win and a trophy presented by TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Europe’s Vice Chairman Kazuki Nakajima. On Friday it was time to narrow a 30-driver Nations Cup field to a final 12 – and crown three regional champions in the process. Takuma Miyazono (JPN), a triple champion in 2020, took the honors for the Asia-Oceania Region. The EMEA race was won by Spain’s Coque López, a player who has been at every GT World Series event since its inception in 2018. Finally, it was the turn of the Americas Region and in-form Chilean Angel Inostroza was crowned champion and booked his place in Sunday’s Grand Final. With Sunday’s Nations Cup final line-up confirmed, Saturday saw the focus switch to the Manufacturers Cup. Twelve three-driver teams represented the leading World Series manufacturers, including series partners Toyota, Genesis, and Mazda. With points already accrued from the three World Series events and July’s Salzburg World Series Showdown, more points would be awarded in Race 1 and a double-points Grand Final. Team Porsche took the maximum from Race 1, with pre-event points leaders, and favorites, Team Toyota in second. Team Mercedes-AMG rounded out the top three, while World Series Showdown winners in July, Team Subaru, looked to have dropped out of contention with a sixth-place finish. Taking to the famous Spa-Francorchamps track for the Grand Final, the skies looked ominous and the weather would prove to be a decisive factor in a mesmerizing endurance race. Rain started to fall causing the drivers to pit for intermediate or full-wet tires. Intermediates looked to have been the better choice as the conditions improved. However, the rain started again in the latter stages of this 30-lap race and this time it didn’t clear, leaving those that switched to full wets finishing stronger. Team Subaru’s superb race craft and great tire choices saw them win just ahead of Team Toyota and Team Mercedes-AMG in third. The result left Subaru and Toyota tied on points, but it was Subaru’s Daniel Solis (USA), Takuma Miyazono (JPN), and Kylian Drumont (FRA) who lifted the stunning Boccioni-inspired Manufacturers Cup trophy as World Champions thanks to their win in the Grand Final. And so to Sunday’s Nations Cup Grand Final for even more excitement. French Formula 1 driver Esteban Ocon was in the crowd at Le Sporting Monte Carlo (the venue for the World Finals) that was treated to some compelling entertainment. A packed Nations Cup broadcast saw Ferrari’s Chief Design Officer Flavio Manzoni unveil the stunning Ferrari Vision Gran Turismo that will appear soon in Gran Turismo 7. The crowd went on to witness racing no less spectacular. A single-lap Qualifying Session set the grid for 30 laps around the Trial Mountain Circuit (reverse) in the Red Bull X2019 Competition in national liveries. Japan’s Takuma Miyazono qualified on pole, but Spaniard Coque López was just a thousandth of a second behind. In what turned out to be a magnificent race full of intrigue and differing tire strategies, López and Miyazono were leading the field on the penultimate lap but had one mandatory pitstop to make to switch onto the slower hard tires. As they emerged from the pitlane, the pair were dissected by Chilean Angel Inostroza who was on soft tires. After an action-, and incident-, packed final lap, López took the checkered flag from Inostroza and Miyazono, but celebrations were muted as an ‘incident under investigation’ notification went up and the drivers, and audience, awaited the verdict of the stewards. When the judgement came through that the collisions were ‘a racing incident,’ the celebrations could start in style for the Spaniard. As in the Manufacturers Cup, there was a points tie at the top of the leaderboard. López and Inostroza were both on 30 points, but the Spaniard’s victory in the Grand Final gave him the World Championship and left the Chilean bitterly disappointed. The third step of the podium was taken by Brazil’s Igor Fraga. It had been a highly entertaining four days of racing with drama, excitement, high-profile guests, and some Monaco glamour. Red Bull Capture Point 2022 has come to a close, and what a competition it has been! PlayStation partnered with Red Bull once more for the second edition of this best-in-class virtual photography competition, and we’ve received incredible shots from across the world. Now, the eight best photographers have been decided, and will be whisked away for a once-in-a-lifetime photography experience in New York City – read on to find out how you could join them to see the winning photos in a one night only gallery experience. If you missed out on Red Bull Capture Point, let’s bring you up to speed. The competition took place between September 5 and October 30, with budding virtual photographers tasked with capturing beautiful, awe-inspiring moments on either PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 in Horizon Forbidden West and Gran Turismo 7.* The competition was split into four rounds, with opportunities to show off portraits, landscapes, and technical prowess, as well as a final open category for all entrants. The winners of each round were then moved into the Best of Show, where the four winning entries were judged side by side to determine one overall winner. Eight countries took part in the competition – Argentina, Belgium, Canada, Chile, France, Netherlands, United Kingdom, and the United States – with the best virtual photographers picked out by our panel of judges, led by head judge Mik Bromley. Mik is owner of TheFourthFocus.com, a website dedicated to the modern artistic medium of virtual photography, is a capture artist and web writer based in the UK and has been involved with Capture Point since it debuted in the US in 2021. Heads up, hunters! Monster Hunter Rise is coming to PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 on January 20, 2023. It’s been a little over two years since the release of the final update for Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, so we’re thrilled to welcome PlayStation players to Kamura Village and back into the hunt. Play Video Unleash your hunting spirit Monster Hunter Rise infuses the hunting experience you might be familiar with from Monster Hunter World and Iceborne with new acrobatic maneuvers enabled by the endemic life known as Wirebugs. Leap into the air, scale cliffs, and quickly traverse open environments with ease. Wirebugs allow for varied and unique special attacks for each of the 14 weapons in the game. Neon White is a lightning-fast single-player first-person action game where you exterminate demons beyond the pearly gates of Heaven. It’s a one-of-a-kind mashup of first person shooter, platformer, puzzle game, topped off with a social link system where you can get to know your fellow dead assassins. That may sound like a lot, but it’s simple in practice: Kill every demon and reach the end of the level as fast as you can. Levels are bite-sized challenges built from the ground up to be rewarding to replay and optimize- this is achieved using the unique Soul Card system. Soul Cards serve as both your weapons and your movement abilities. For example, the Godspeed card is a high powered rifle that can kill demons, but if you discard it you execute a forward dash. You can take your time and finish a level by shooting demons, but if you want to do things quickly, you’ll have to sacrifice your weapons. Neon White is all about speed, so one of our highest priorities was performance. It was important to us that the PlayStation 5 version runs at 120hz across the board. When precision matters, the high framerate makes a difference. We’ve also made the most of the system SSD to reduce load times significantly. It’s important that restarting levels is as quick and painless as possible. If you want to beat your friends’ leaderboard times, you’ll be restarting levels over and over again. Neon White also makes use of PS5’s adaptive triggers to make each Soul Card feel unique when you fire them as well as when you discard. Controller Haptics provide an extra level of feedback on top of that. You’ll feel it when you’re moving faster on water and you’ll get a subtle confirmation when you successfully snipe a distant demon. Our goal wasn’t just to make you feel cool, but for you to develop a sixth sense. To turn you into a speedrunning freak. Play Video Before you kick down the pearly gates, here are a few tips to help you optimize levels and earn those Ace medals: Let discards do the work It’s tempting to hoard ammo to maximize your damage output. However, your goal is speed, not DPS. So here’s my tip: when possible, your discard should both move you and kill enemies at the same time. The Purify bomb discard might kill four enemies at once, but why not try jumping on it at the same time for a boost? Aim with Gyro Neon White supports Gyroscope aiming using the DualSense controller, and I personally never play without it. Gyroscope aiming can take some getting used to, but it’s well worth it for an extra degree of fine-grained control when sniping demons from the start of a level. Katana Tricks Neon White has a handful of secret features that can give you an edge over the competition. White’s default Katana card isn’t powerful on its own, but it can be used to deflect many enemy projectiles back at them, dealing extra damage. Successful parries with the Katana also give White a small speed boost, which is even more effective when White is airborne. Tips and techniques aside, the best way to experience the game is to jump in and try it for yourself. Neon White comes with all the tools you need to climb the leaderboards regardless of your level of experience. And if you don’t care about leaderboards, just play the first mission.
