    Theme: Final Fantasy XIV
Share by: 9am Pacific on Wednesday, June 6

Next week, we’re taking on Final Fantasy XIV. From the harsh, freezing landscapes of Coerthas to the tropical climes of Costa Del Sol, the world of Hydaelyn is home to endless photographic opportunities. Set sail to Kugane to take Japan-inspired architecture shots, or pose for a quick selfie in the vast, open Churning Mists.

Final Fantasy XIV takes an interesting approach to its photo mode (invoked with the /gpose command), letting you freely place up to three light sources in the environment and around your subject. Experiment with its unique capabilities to frame dramatic portraits, wide-angle shots, or anything else you can think of and share with us using #PS4share and #PSBlog.

  3. Update: Tickets are live! Click here to get yours, but note that they are limited. If you don’t snag one, see below for more information about how you may still be able to attend.

E3 is almost here and I’m excited to announce that the PlayStation E3 Experience is returning! Join us on Monday June 11th in theaters across the United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, and – new this year – Chile!

This is the fifth year we’re broadcasting our E3 Showcase live to theaters. Experiencing the excitement of E3 alongside the PlayStation community brings a new dimension to the event, which is difficult to fully explain… this video might help.

Attendees this year will take home an exclusive poster and some other goodies. Want more than just physical swag? We’ve got you covered — everyone will also get a digital gift basket chock-full of treats. This year digital goods will be distributed via the Experience PlayStation app, so make sure to download it before you arrive at the theater if you want to redeem them immediately.

Sounds great, how do I attend?

Tickets are free and will be available at starting on Tuesday, June 5th at 11:00 AM PDT while supplies last. Check back here for the link. I highly recommend setting a reminder, because once the tickets are gone – they’re gone. This year tickets for all regions will be available at the same ticketing site.

Registering for a ticket will reserve your seat as long as you check in at the theater 30 minutes before show time. If you don’t check in by this time your seat will be released to non-ticketed fans (who have queued for a seat) on a first-come first-served basis.

Please note: Attendees must be 17 years of age or older to attend this event (18+ in Brazil). A valid form of ID providing age will be required to enter.

    I didn’t get a ticket, what now?

Those without tickets can queue at the theater starting two hours before showtime. You will not be able to line up earlier than this. Open seats will be given out to those in the queue on a first-come first-served basis starting 30 minutes before the show starts.

Check below for the full list of theaters.

  4. What a month! Not only did we finally get our hands on Quantic Dream’s insanely ambitious Detroit: Become Human, but unique new experiences like Moonlighter, Laser League and Gorogoa have made bold debuts on PS4 over the past few weeks. We also finally got a sequel to PS3’s beloved PixelJunk Monsters, and 8-bit tribute Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon set the stage for Koji Igarashi’s upcoming Ritual of the Night.

Of course, only one game can be called the best, but far be it from us to make that call. The power to decide May’s best game lies in your hands. What will you choose? Don’t dawdle — polls close Sunday night.

How does it work? At the end of every month, PlayStation.Blog will open a poll where you can vote for the best new game released that month. Soon thereafter, we’ll close the polls, tally your votes, and announce the winner at PlayStation.Blog. PlayStation Store will also showcase some top Players’ Choice winners throughout the year.

What is the voting criteria? That’s up to you! If you were only able to recommend one new release to a friend that month, which would it be? In keeping with our long tradition in the Game of the Year Awards, remastered or re-released games won’t qualify (Editor’s note: Sorry, Dark Souls). Ambitious, larger-scale rebuilds and remakes like Shadow of the Colossus and Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy will.

How are nominees decided? The PlayStation.Blog and PlayStation Store editorial teams will gather a list of that month’s most noteworthy releases and use it to seed the poll. Write-in votes will be accepted.

  5. Hello, PlayStation fans! After being extremely coy about our release date at PAX East, we are so happy to finally announce that Spearhead Games’ next action-adventure game, Omensight, will be released on May 15th. The game will be part of Totally Digital and pre-orders will start tomorrow… with a 20% discount for PS Plus members! We’re thrilled to share the brand-new trailer to mark this very special occasion.

    40147003085_5e5e7fefe8_b.jpg

Omensight takes the branching narrative structure of Stories: The Path of Destinies and spins it in an interesting new direction. In Stories, our focus was to let players explore all the choices available to them. But in Omensight, we decided that choices should matter more, since the objective is tied to solving a murder mystery leading to the end of the world of Urralia. You will need to pay attention to the hints and clues provided by fellow companions, who are all involved in the murder of the Godless-Priestess Vera in some way. This will help you make the right decisions to progress in your investigation.

Our writers, Nadim Boukhira and Genese Davis, with support from Chris Avellone, spent countless hours crafting an intricate story of conspiracy, mythology, and time-loop for Omensight. They really focused on giving each of the major characters their own distinct personality and motivations, making sure their dialogue included vital clues about the identity of the murderer.

    40331600384_ba57e789c3_b.jpg

Speaking of characters, we are so honored to have worked with a fantastic cast of voice actors. Julian Casey, who gave a tour-de-force performance as the narrator in Stories, returns to voice the menacing Indrik, Emperor of Pygarian Empire. Patricia Summersett, who’s appeared in multiple Ubisoft games and voiced Zelda in Zelda: Breath of the Wild recently, plays the honorable General Draga and the always-helpful Witch. Leda Davies really brought out the witty, playful side of Ratika, leader of rebels. And last but not least, Lateef Martin is Ludomir in the game and in real life, a big guy with a heart of gold.

We hope you’ll enjoy the story and the characters of Omensight as much as we enjoyed bringing them to life when the game releases on May 15th!

  6. We are extremely pleased and proud to announce today, that after four years of passionate crafting, Detroit: Become Human has officially gone gold!

    41588426361_4c2661635b_b.jpg

During these four years, we have gone through all possible states and emotions that the development of such a challenging project induces: the pride of working on something special and unique, the doubt of attaining all our creative and technical goals, the hope when publicly releasing scenes and trailers and seeing players’ positive reactions, the fear of not having enough time and resources to make everything perfect, the joy of finally seeing all parts of the puzzle come together, scene after scene, and finally being able to play the game from start to finish. And today, I guess it is with a mixture of all these feelings that we stand in front of you.

    26720168137_0111d38423_b.jpg

Detroit: Become Human is no longer our game. Instead, it will soon become yours. Yours to play, to own, to hopefully cherish. The fate of Connor, Kara and Markus is in your hands, along with the fate of all other characters in the game. Through your decisions and actions, you will have the opportunity to become the writer, the director and the main protagonist of the most branching story we have ever created. A story made of hopes, fears, sadness but also of joy and happiness. A story as much about us, humans, as it is about androids.

David Cage, the entire team and myself are proud of the work we have accomplished during these four years. We are grateful to all our wonderful actors, composers, artists and partners around the world who have lent their talent to making Detroit: Become Human the very special experience it has become.

We are also extremely grateful to our fans around the world. We have read all of your emails, all of your letters, all of your tweets and messages. Each of them has given us the inspiration to make the best possible game for our fans. Last but not least, we are extremely thankful to Sony and the whole PlayStation family for believing in us and enabling us to make our dreams come true.

    40541692501_c4624781d9_b.jpg

To celebrate this milestone, and to help you pass the time as you hold on just a little while longer for the game’s release on May 25th, I am extremely happy to announce that the very first scene of the game, Hostage, will be available for download on the PS Store starting tomorrow, Tuesday, April 24 at 12:01 AM Eastern Standard Time.

As part of the Hostage demo experience, there’s also an extended Alexa Skill! Properly named “CyberLife,” the Alexa Skill will provide you guidance and additional intel about this near future android filled world. As you take on the role of Connor, a hostage negotiator android sent to take control of this high-stakes situation, the CyberLife Skill will help guide you in your decision making throughout the investigation process, while giving you a deeper look at the various characters involved within the Hostage demo. It will also give you insights on how you can best alter your decision within the experience that could result in a different ending outcome.

With the CyberLife Skill, you’ll be able to learn more about the world of Detroit: Become Human:

Tell Me About – Get more details as you examine every piece of the crime scene.
Try saying: “Alexa, ask CyberLife to tell me about the fish?” What’s Their Story? – Uncover the truth behind any character you find within the demo.
Try saying: “Alexa, ask CyberLife to tell me about the Phillips Family?” Alter the Course of History – Using the Flowchart at the end of the demo, use the skill to discover alternate endings.
Try saying: “Alexa, ask CyberLife why Connor failed to reach Daniel in time?”

To get started, all you need is the following:
    1. Download the Detroit: Become Human Demo from the PS Store on PS4
    2. Have access to any enabled Amazon Alexa Device

  10. Warning: spoilers for Westworld Season 1!

Attention PlayStation Vue subscribers! Westworld, one of my favorite HBO series, returns on April 22. That’s this Sunday! Before the character-driven drama and twisting mysteries continue, we wanted to refresh you on the happenings of the extraordinary first season.

    In the Loop

We begin with the story of Dolores Abernathy, the daughter of a rancher. She believes that everything around her, even the seedy town of Sweetwater, is a beautiful place with something new to discover every day. But in actuality, she is the oldest android “host” of Westworld, where “newcomers” pay top dollar to play out their deepest desires with zero consequence.

    Teddy and Dolores - Westworld

Hosts’ core coding prevents them from harming newcomers and are also reset to their “loops” so that the memories of their interactions are erased. Glitches are starting to pop up around the park with a new update of “reveries” by park founder Robert Ford and lead programmer Bernard Lowe.

The biggest glitch shows up in Dolores’ father, Peter Abernathy. Peter finds a photo of a woman from outside of Westworld and it awakens something inside him. He suddenly remembers his past narratives, and in a panic whispers “These violent delights have violent ends,” a quote from Romeo and Juliet. The glitch is caught by the programming team, and Ford decides to remove Peter, deactivating him permanently from Westworld. As for Dolores, the line of Shakespeare is still rattling inside her brain, but she reveals nothing to the programmers upon their inspection of her.

The Making of the Man in Black

Over time, Dolores fully strays from her loop and meets William and Logan, two newcomers with very different views of Westworld. It’s William’s first time in the park, but Logan is all too familiar with Westworld and wants a couple of nights of debauchery with his eventual brother-in-law. He also lets William know that Delos, his father’s company, is looking to buy the park.

The Man in Black - Westworld

Against Logan’s wishes, William wants to help Dolores find a church that she keeps dreaming of from a past narrative and is later told, in the town of Pariah, that she needs to find The Maze to get what she’s looking for.

Meanwhile, Logan decides that a deal with Pariah’s army of Confederados is in his best interest, but the deal turns sour. William and Dolores abandon Logan in search of the church. Soon enough, they find the church and fall in love, with William deciding he wants to bring Dolores back to the real world with him.

Logan, returning alongside the Confederados, is enraged with William, explaining that he can’t love a host and also marry his sister. Logan pulls out a picture of his sister, which happens to be the same picture that caused Peter to glitch. He then restrains William and stabs Dolores, but she winds up fleeing to the church, where she finds an abandoned Westworld office in the basement – the origin of Ford’s work on the park.

    Logan and William - Westworld

Losing Dolores sets off William, who kills the Confederados and ties up Logan, stranding him in the park on horseback. In a desperate search, William finds Dolores in Sweetwater, but instantly realizes her memory has been wiped and she doesn’t recognize him. Heartbroken, William takes his frustrations out on the park and, over time, becomes the infamous Man in Black – board member and majority shareholder of Delos.

As the Man in Black, William is searching for a way to awaken the hosts and make them self-aware. His ultimate goal is to make Westworld a more chaotic place where actions breed consequence.

    Spreading The Glitch

Peter Abernathy is a Patient Zero of sorts. He passes on his glitch to Dolores by whispering to her, “These violent delights have violent ends,” who soon after passes it on to Maeve, the owner and proprietor of the Mariposa Saloon in Sweetwater.

Soon, Maeve begins to dream, remembering a past narrative of her and her child in a storyline of the park in its early days. They are both attacked and killed by the Man in Black, frightening her and, in turn, waking herself up. But she isn’t in her room at the Mariposa.

Maeve awakens naked on a table outside of Westworld and wanders around only to find other hosts being worked on. She is eventually found and brought back into the park, but the memory of men in hazmat suits begins to haunt her.

    Maeve and Technician - Westworld

The visions start to swirl with the ones of her daughter, and Maeve sets out to find the truth about her existence. Wanting to return to the operating table, she keeps finding ways to kill herself, eventually colliding with Lutz, a “butcher” at Westworld that runs maintenance on the hosts. She threatens Lutz and his coworker Sylvester with death if they don’t boost her intelligence, knowing that this action will be the key to unlocking her self-consciousness.

    The Dev Team

Ford wants to keep pushing the envelope with a new “reveries” update that allows the hosts to pull from previous instances to simulate real emotions and gestures, but the update seems to be the origin of the glitch. Ford explains to Bernard that his former partner Arnold was the architect behind the reveries, but Arnold was killed in a tragic accident – the only instance of death in Westworld.

Theresa Cullen of the Quality Assurance team sees this as a red flag. She believes that Ford has gone far enough and that the updates could pose a threat to the attendees of the park. Stuck in the middle, Bernard decides to monitor the park for any problems and soon discovers unregistered hosts in an abandoned section of Westworld.

Bernard finds a cabin filled with early hosts made by Ford that resemble his family. Bernard decides to be honest with Theresa and takes her there to investigate. Theresa finds a door that leads to a basement and the two find designs for hosts. But one looks a little too familiar.

    Bernard and Theresa - Westworld

Theresa shows paperwork to Bernard of a host resembling himself and Ford enters to explain that Bernard is a host of his own design. Ford then orders Bernard to kill Theresa to keep his secret.

    The Grand Narrative

At this point, the stories converge. Maeve decides to use her added intelligence to use the Westworld system on her own and grants herself the power to control other hosts. Her ultimate goal is to escape the park and to do so, enlists the help of hosts Hector Escaton and Armistice – bandits who rob the Mariposa every loop.

She also gets access to Bernard, whom she identifies as a host and orders him to find out his origins to become self-aware. Bernard then coerces Ford into unlocking his self-conscious so that he can find the clues to who he is inside his mind. He reaches the answer – Ford created Bernard in the image of Arnold to continue their unfinished work on the reveries since other programmers were unwilling to update the hosts.

That unwillingness was actually what got Arnold killed. Right before the park was to be opened, Arnold added a host’s mind, called Wyatt, into Dolores and incited a massacre of all the hosts, ending with Dolores shooting Arnold.

Ford then orders Bernard to shoot himself and leaves to join Westworld board members at a park gala to reveal his newest narrative “Journey into Night.”

Maeve finds Bernard, repairs him with the help of Lutz, and uses Hector and Armistice as diversions to escape to a train leaving the park. But right before the train departs, the memory of her daughter keeps her from following through and Maeve heads back to Westworld.

    Dr. Robert Ford - Westworld

At the Gala, Ford marks a new age of the park, and Dolores kills Ford in the same spot she killed Arnold all those years ago. From the trees, hosts from cold storage descend upon the gala. The Man in Black is shot in the arm, signaling that all the hosts are capable of killing.

    Don’t Forget These Faces

There are plenty of other narratives in the park and Season 2 will pit these characters against each other in the war between man and machine.

    Teddy Flood
Dolores’ robo-beau, who helped her escape the clutches of the Man in Black in the final episode. Teddy is loyal to Dolores in his core code and will end up following her in her quest to liberate Westworld. But does Teddy share the same desire to kill so willingly?

    Charlotte Hale
Hale is the Executive Director of Delos. In Season 1, her ultimate goal was to be rid of Ford so that the company could roll back hosts and make the park more profitable. She was also working with Theresa to smuggle the hosts’ data out of Fords hands so he couldn’t destroy the park. That data is stuck in the mind of…

Charlotte and the Man in Black - Westworld

    Peter Abernathy
Yep. Every piece of information needed to run the park and likely restore the hosts to their original builds lies in the head of a host. Peter was released from cold storage in Maeve’s escape plan and Hale will surely stop at nothing to ensure his capture.

    Clementine Pennyfeather
Maeve’s best friend was the unfortunate host used in Hale’s first attempt to oust Ford from the park which led to Clementine being lobotomized and sent to storage. Now that she’s released, her brain seems to only understand death. She could be a powerful instrument for the hosts.

    Logan
Let’s not forget the scorned brother-in-law. Logan was last seen on a road to nowhere in his birthday suit. Expect the story of Logan losing the company to William to unfold in time. Maybe an older Logan will eventually emerge to challenge the Man in Black?

    Ashley Stubbs
Stubbs is Westworld’s Head of Security who played second fiddle to Theresa during Season 1. He is now tasked with finding a way to bring order to the park. Stubbs is also suspicious of Bernard and may know of his true identity as a host.

    Shogun World

In the final episode, Maeve’s great escape brings them into Shogun World, another park seemingly set in Japan and filled with samurai. We’ve seen glimpses of Maeve walking through the park in some trailers, so don’t be surprised if she decides to bring sword-wielding reinforcements to Westworld.

    The Robo-Rebellion

The core code has been compromised and the park is in jeopardy. Will Westworld fall to Dolores and her host army? Is Maeve going to try and control the park from the outside and will she ever reunite with her daughter? Could the Man in Black’s hopes of a more dangerous park mean his end?

Westworld returns with its Season 2 premiere on HBO on April 22. Watch live on PlayStation Vue, or catch up with every episode available now on demand.

  11. Dear readers of PlayStation.Blog,

Ours is a time of quiet despair.

One out of five humans have been diagnosed with some form of mental illness, and though many others have not (yet) been stigmatized with any one diagnostic label, chaotic states of consciousness – such as anxiety, panic, lethargy, dissatisfaction, suicidal ideation, and depression – are increasingly becoming part of everyone’s day-to-day life. Nowadays an exasperating, yet politely suppressed, existential scream of terror seems to contaminate our minds.

To Leave is a hardcore game about manic-depressive illness, social alienation, and the burning desire to bring all inner and outer pain to an end. The game’s main character, Harm – a manic-depressive young man in possession of a magical, flying door – has finished orchestrating a plan to solve all his troubles – and all the troubles of his world – once and for all.

In To Leave, players will experience what it feels like being Harm at this crucial moment of his life: a deeply conflicted, half-lucid, half-insane teenager with muddled thoughts but with one very clear intention in his heart: peace for himself, and peace for his world.

    41505060852_f3d52ed69d_z.jpg

To that effect, To Leave makes use of several points of view and game-genres to convey that experience. The game is categorized as “Unique” at PlayStation Store*, and with good reason: at Freaky Creations we have not been afraid to stray into experimental territory.

At the start of the game throughout the first chapters, To Leave is quite easy to play and could very well be played by even those who have seldom, if ever, played any games. But To Leave progressively (and conscientiously) ramps up its difficulty. Challenges are not random, nor are they unfair: by the time a player reaches a challenge, he or she will be more than capable to face it. One of our ideologies in Freaky Creations is that games should respect players, both their grit and their capacity to grow and improve. In that light, To Leave will challenge you. Yes, it is addictive, and it is fun, but it isn’t easy. Once you’ve finished it, however, you will come out of the experience elated, and without any trace of regret.

Be careful: Harm’s Door is delicate. Touch anything and you’ll be thrown back!

To Leave is Freaky Creation’s first game, and is the culmination of a six-year-long development and research process. It has been tested by hundreds of players with different levels of experience. To Leave is also one of the first Ecuadorian games to launch on a PlayStation platform, and we’re quite proud of this achievement.

To Leave is coming to you on April 24, 2018, but you can pre-order it now for some extra perks and a discount!

    Sincerely yours,

    Estefano Palacios T.
    Creative Director, Freaky Creations

  12. “Your new name is ‘Mid-Boss.'”

Ah, what a memorable moment 15 years ago from Disgaea: Hour of Darkness. And now, it’s back! The original Disgaea adventure is getting a complete makeover in Disgaea 1 Complete for PS4!

Disgaea 1 Complete will show fans the origins of this critically-acclaimed strategy RPG series that took the West by storm back in 2003. For those of you who are new to the Disgaea franchise, this is the true beginning of it all and definitely a game you won’t want to miss.

The story begins as Laharl awakens from a two-year slumber when Etna, one of the castle’s (devious) vassals, informs him that his father (King Krichevskoy) has died. The young prince realizes what he must do and vows to reclaim the throne. Along the way, he meets Flonne, an angel trainee who was sent from Celestia to assassinate the already-dead King Krichevskoy, but instead follows Laharl and Etna to see if demons are truly heartless. With its rag-tag team of unlikely heroes, this zany and over-the-top story illustrates just why the series is renowned in the West for being “uniquely Disgaea.”

    41482763252_59612ac0a3_z.jpg

And now, the original is back and better than ever! With classic elements of gameplay combined with modern HD graphics, players can get lost in the fast-paced strategy RPG action and roller-coaster storyline. Over-the-top level caps (Up to 9999!) and damage upwards of hundreds of millions await. Not happy with how things are going in your game? Vote in the Dark Assembly to change the rules of the Netherworld, or obtain nostalgic items like the Horse Wi… Actually, we’ll let you finish that sentence.

Disgaea 1 Complete arrives on PS4 this fall. If you’re feeling rusty on the Disgaea madness, you might want to check out Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance to get a taste of the chaos before the original makes its triumphant return. Each game in the series builds on the Disgaea lore in its own unique way, so we highly recommend coming back to its roots to see how it all began.

  13. Hey PlayStation gamers! Alex Nichiporchik here from tinyBuild. We’re excited to bring Phantom Trigger, the hardcore neon slasher developed by Bread Team, to PS4 tomorrow.

But wait. What the heck is a “Bread Team?” What does a “neon slasher” even mean? Read on!

Phantom Trigger is the second game we’ve worked on together with Bread Team. They are Victor Solodilov and Denis Novikov, a two-man dreamteam living in Ukraine and Russia. Three years ago, we released Divide By Sheep, their game about slicing sheep in half, and it was this offbeat sensibility combined with experimental, addictive gameplay that drove us straight into working on their next game together.

Inspired by the difficulty of Dark Souls, the plot twists of Fight Club, and the combat of Devil May Cry, Bread Team created Phantom Trigger, a pulsing combat game that’s rewarding and punishing in turn.

You begin the story as Stan, a man living an ordinary life until he’s struck by a mysterious illness. When he falls sick, he opens his eyes to a strange neon world, where he is the Outsider.

    39717847420_a52fe00ce6_z.jpg

A warrior with no memory, the Outsider fights with three different weapons: a green Whip that can pull enemies, a blue Sword to slice and dice, and red Gauntlets with a powerful punch. Both obstacles and enemies respond to the weapons in different ways, and the weapons themselves combine to perform devastating combos and spells. You’ll have to stay nimble as you dash between enemies and learn how to pull off the combos. If not, you’ll find the neon world quite unforgiving.

Featuring a rich combo system, a spiraling story with multiple endings, and slick action, Phantom Trigger is a title you don’t want to miss.

  14. Bogdan Iliesiu here, CEO of Angry Mob Games. We’re excited to announce the upcoming launch of our party-fighter, Brawlout, on PS4!

We knew we couldn’t be the only ones with fond memories of sitting with the buddies, sprawled across college dorms or sunk into comfy rec rooms. For those with an ingrained love of fighting games, this one’s for you. And by you, I also mean us.

    Brawlout for PS4

Brawlout is a fighting game built for fast-paced matches and action-oriented play by eliminating shielding and defensive tactics. By focusing on aggressive mechanics, new players will be able to easily nail impressive combos while not feeling overwhelmed by friends who’ve had a bit more practice.

It’s easy to learn and difficult to master, which we think is a good way to appeal to both casual players and gamers looking to dedicate the time to honing their skills to become pros.

    Brawlout for PS4

We’ve got seven original fighters to choose from, but add in variants to those characters and it swells up to eighteen, in addition to the three indie guest characters we’ve teleported in from Hyper Light Drifter, Guacamelee, and… currently undisclosed!

Want an agile, deadly, assassin-type? Sephi’ra is a good bet (and my personal favorite). For close combat, nothing beats a grappler like Paco, while if long range projectiles are your thing, Chief Feathers, or even better, his Condor X variant covers most of the battleground with carefully placed mines, bombs, or even guided missiles.

    Brawlout for PS4

“Isn’t this just another Smash clone?” is something we’ve heard a lot during development. In some ways, yes, we do have elements that people loved in Smash. Character movement, Ledge grabs and even some character power sets are reminiscent of the Nintendo classic. But at its core, Smash Bros. wasn’t where we dove for inspiration when thinking about the type of core mechanics we wanted to include in Brawlout.

Our game more closely reflects our love for the traditional fighters like Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat. You really feel the weight of your punches and kicks-in-the-face! Plus combo-breakers! We wanted an aggressive, combo heavy game, not something that was just full of blocks and defensive stand-offs.

We’re beyond excited to bring Brawlout to PS4; we’re confident that it’s an experience not previously available for console. With the PS4’s stellar online capabilities, it was immediately one of the goals we set for ourselves when developing Brawlout.

Its visuals got a huge boost, too – plus it’s PlayStation Pro enhanced, with crisp 4K fighting. Feel free to challenge the team online this summer!

  17. Enter the Sanctuary and stay awhile, Tenno. The next major update, Beasts of the Sanctuary, features our 35th Warframe Khora, a new game mode called Sanctuary Onslaught, and more!

With a bold aesthetic characterized by glossy metallics hinting at her fierceness in combat, Khora sets the stage for her long-awaited arrival with flair. She is an example of how Warframe often develops on an ebb and flow of ideas. The Impact, Puncture, and Slash damage types were originally meant to be her wheelhouse — changing the damage output on command the name of her game.

When it came down to executing the concept, the ingredients didn’t have the kick we were expecting fresh out of the development oven. So the devs went back to the cupboard and whipped something new up, all while keeping in mind that certain parts of the original recipe just worked: cycling ability modes and a Kavat companion summoned by, and unique to, Khora.

What resulted was a Warframe fashioned with a metallic whip that twirls her weapon’s living metal around enemies, ensnaring them in a snake-like grip. A complex and adaptable Warframe, Khora displays her power using a set of Abilities sure to make her enemies shudder. Whipclaw is an offensive whip strike that sends enemies reeling. Ensnare traps your target and entangles those who stray too close. Venari, your Kavat partner in crime, enables you to cycle through Khora’s postures to set her to attack, protect, or heal. She’s a cat of all trades. And finally, (cue announcer voice) welcome to the Strangledome.

Quite literally, it is a dome that strangles enemies within with gripping chains dealing damage overtime. If I had to choose my favorite part of Khora, it would be that you can have both Venari and another companion equipped. Essentially, getting closer to my true form of “Beastmaster Danielle.”

    40725684064_d0725a2dcb_z.jpg

Now it comes as no surprise that with these abilities, Cephalon Simaris, a seeker of knowledge, has taken interest in researching this Warframe unfamiliar to your arsenal. Trapped in Cephalon Simaris’ Sanctuary, Khora remains. But she can be found and rescued! In our new update, Beasts of Sanctuary, obtaining Khora is done by coming face to face with the furious temper and growing pace of a new game mode called “Sanctuary Onslaught.”

Stepping into the Sanctuary will send you into a sequence of portals. Randomly generated levels await you on the other side of each portal, each one unstable and bustling with a flurry of enemies. The goal? Survive long enough to move onto the next stage. Once you enter a portal, a timer will tick down indicating the arrival of the next. Maintaining portal stability is key, and done with a constant fury of enemy kills and sourcing stability pickups scattered around. It’s a rush, and it’s meant to challenge your ability to deliver quick death while remaining mobile and skillfully navigating the levels.

This timed chaos will release with a casual and challenge mode (for you hardcore folks out there), and will applaud your efforts with Khora and other unique rewards.

Like two Grineer Tubemen in a cloning pod (sorry), Khora and Sanctuary Onslaught are intrinsic to one another and available in the Beasts of the Sanctuary update. We like to keep things interesting, so we’re hoping that a Warframe with whips and a hardcore challenge does the trick! I expect the first Warframe PS4 at 4 livestream after the update goes live will feature me shouting at the screen while I flail aimlessly through the Sanctuary. So, I look forward to having you tune in to join me for the adventure.

  18. It’s been nearly three months since we launched Monster Hunter: World globally and we are humbled by how many new and returning hunters have enlisted to investigate the New World and the Elder Crossing. From all of us at Capcom, thank you!

Now, let’s talk about the next addition to the game: a brand new Elder Dragon accompanied by a new quest type and loot system, all coming for free starting at April 18 at 5:00 PM Pacific!

    New Elder Dragon: Kulve Taroth

With the conclusion of the Zorah Magdaros and Nergigante investigations, the path is now clear for new Elder Dragons to emerge in the New World; the perfect opening for the majestic Kulve Taroth.

Cloaked in a heavy golden mantle, this dazzling threat is fast approaching and it’s up to you and your Hunting Squad to work together and repel it at all costs. Of course, you’ll be handsomely rewarded for your efforts.

    41502448061_07234c34de_b.jpg

    New Quest Type: Siege

The magnitude of Kulve Taroth’s arrival is nothing to be scoffed at. To prevent a total catastrophe, we’re deploying a brand new hunting strategy. Prepare for an all-out Siege.

In this new quest type, we invite all of you up to the Gathering Hub to coordinate your hunting efforts with all 16 players in the lobby. Up to four parties of four hunters each can team up and contribute progress, work together to collectively break more parts, and reap greater benefits of hunting the same Kulve Taroth.

Please note that the Siege game mode balance is the same regardless of the hunting party size, and SOS Flares will be disabled for this special operation. Instead, we advise that you make use of the Search for Online Session function or Squad Sessions to find or build a hub ready to take on this massive feat.

Multiplayer coordination is a requirement for anyone seeking the shiny, powerful new rewards we have to offer, so make sure you have an active PlayStation Plus subscription to join the Siege.

    New Weapon Loot System

The primary goal of this Siege is to repel Kulve Taroth, but its shimmering golden mantle happens to be a collection of shiny weapon relics it has gathered along its journey through the New World.

    41461085742_36a585ace5_b.jpg

We don’t have much information on when and where Kulve Taroth has amassed all these relics, so the nature and quality of these weapons (read: type and stats) are entirely up to fate. Focus your efforts on breaking as many parts and dealing as much damage as possible to take home some exciting rewards.

New Armor and New Layered Armor

When it comes to armor, however, the Smithy already has tailored blueprints to craft majestic α and β armor sets with the most glimmering materials you can gather. And to mark the special occasion, we’re also offering a brand new Layered Armor Set, which you can equip on top of your favorite set to change its appearance. Look for a special delivery request after you take on your first Kulve Taroth Siege.

    41461085892_3837eb680d_b.jpg

The first instance of the Kulve Taroth Siege will start on April 18 at 5:00 PM Pacific, along with our second free content update, and will be live only for a limited time, so be sure to assemble your Squad and take full advantage of this golden opportunity. The Siege of Kulve Taroth will be returning at a later date, so stay tuned to the Monster Hunter channels on Facebook and Twitter for the latest reports.

  19. Welcome back! Thank you all for casting your votes to help name March 2018’s best new game. If you didn’t vote, we’ll let it slide… as long as you promise to vote next time. Deal?

We’ve got a double-header for ya today — first up, we’ll reveal the Players’ Choice winner for March 2018. Scroll a bit further down and you’ll see our top picks. PlayStation’s editorial team weighed in on our top games of 2018 so far (January 1 to March 31, specifically).

Expect to see a new selection of Editors’ Choice picks every three months or so; you can even browse our favorites at PlayStation Store. Meanwhile, our Players’ Choice polls will continue to hit at the end of each month as usual.

March 2018 Players’ Choice Winner: Far Cry 5

    Far Cry 5

In a decisive victory, Ubisoft’s outlandish open-world trek through Hope County, Montana claimed the Players’ Choice crown for March 2018! The runners up for the month included gorgeously animated JRPG journey Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom and ambitious cinematic co-op adventure A Way Out — both deserving nominees in their own right.

We’ve got some choice titles launching this month — any guesses for the Players’ Choice in April…?

The PlayStation.Blog and PlayStation Store editorial teams want to chime in with some of our favorite picks too, but we don’t want to steal too much of the spotlight from you, the players, so at the end of each quarter we’ll share some of our favorites from that three-month period. Here are the games we were most impressed by from January 1 to March 31, 2018:

    Monster Hunter World
Justin Massongill // SIEA Social Media
    Editor's Choice: Monster Hunter: World

Monster Hunter always seemed a bit like a “cool kids club,” a series whose praises a certain subset of gamers could never stop singing, but I always scratched my head about. Despite multiple attempts to break through its prickly outer shell in the past, the increased accessibility and sticky progression loop in World makes it the first game in the long-running series I’ve been able to wholly, irrevocably succumb to. I’m finally part of the club.

    Moss (VR)
Andy Yen // SIEA PS Store
    Editor's Choice: Moss

Moss is a true joy of a game to play on PlayStation VR – it oozes storybook charm with its heroine mouse Quill in a puzzle-oriented action-adventure that was a comfortable VR experience throughout. You play as a larger-than-life being that helps guide Quill by manipulating the world from above while simultaneously controlling her actions in real time. It almost feels as if you’re playing co-op in VR with Quill herself – I dare you to not smile when you high-five her through the game.

    Shadow of the Colossus Remastered
Kristen Titus // SIEA Social Media
Editor's Choice: Shadow of the Colossus

Remastering a classic is always a challenge, but Bluepoint Games makes it look easy with its breathtaking update on Shadow of the Colossus. Stunning visuals lead the way here, as you roam a cursed kingdom to hunt down 16 ancient Colossi in return for the soul of a slain girl. Finding the right strategy to take down each Colossi kept me on my toes, and made it all the more satisfying when I landed those final blows.

    Celeste
Justin Massongill // SIEA Social Media
    Editor's Choice: Celeste

The first time I saw the new game from the TowerFall team, I knew it was going to be something special. Ask anyone at PlayStation HQ – I wouldn’t shut up about it! So, I’m delighted to report that Celeste’s pixel-perfect platforming, top-tier level design, beautifully realized low-fi art style, breathtaking soundtrack, and surprisingly personal story still, despite my lofty expectations, caught me off guard. One of the greatest platformers to ever make me want to snap my controller in half.

    Dragon Ball FighterZ
Andy Yen // SIEA PS Store
    Editor's Choice: Dragon Ball FighterZ

Dragon Ball FighterZ is a treat to behold for fans of the series and newcomers alike. Each 3v3 tag-battle is a thrilling light show thanks to incredible animation that rivals the anime on which it is based. Streamlined controls offer depth for hardcore fighting game fans, and ease of learning for casual players (or button-mashers) And don’t worry, you need not be well-versed in 30 years of Dragon Ball lore to enjoy the refined combat systems and the cast of quirky combatants.

    A Way Out
Sid Shuman // SIEA Social Media
    Editor's Choice: A Way Out

A Way Out is another innovative and emotional journey from the creator of Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. As you sneak out of prison with another live human player, you’ll coordinate to misdirect guards, smuggle contraband, and crawl through vents on the way to freedom. These co-op interactions are often surprising and hilarious, forging emotional bonds between you and your buddy. Over time, as the story inexorably reaches its conclusion, those bonds will be put to the test. Already one of the year’s best games.

  20. Epic Games has been on top of the world since its smash-hit Battle Royale mode launched in Fortnite, heading up Twitch viewership charts and crossing over into mainstream conversation with numerous celebrities name-checking it and streaming it alongside the game’s most popular personalities.

I’ve had a great time being carried to racking up Victory Royales with my PSN pals and I think it’s safe to say I’ve boarded the Fortnite hype train. Naturally, I wanted to learn more about how Epic crafted what may currently be the most talked-about game in the world.

So I reached out to Eric Williamson, design lead on Fortnite to answer some burning questions about their free-to-play phenomenon.

    41506446181_910c51b030_z.jpg

PSB: How has the team at Epic been handling the insane amount of attention Fortnite has enjoyed in the past few months? Did you expect this would become as big as it is now?

Eric Williamson: We’re blown away by the response. We’re thrilled that players are enjoying the game and that it’s bringing people together!

PSB: What did the process of adding Battle Royale to Fortnite look like? How long did it take from the first person having the idea to shipping it?

EW: In the past, the Fortnite team had been experimenting with a number of PvP modes, but ultimately decided to move its focus to the PvE experience. There was always the intention to go back to that. Last year, the idea of a battle royale-style game came up. We just thought it would be cool to combine the last-man standing gameplay with the action-building mechanics that make Fortnite unique. In July of last year, we started to work on a prototype, and then released our first version of the game in September. So, roughly two months. There was such a good, solid foundation there for us, so that certainly helped us get to a playable version so quickly.

PSB: There have been lots of big updates to Fortnite since launch, with more anticipated ones on the way. Can you give us a peek at some of the smaller tweaks the team is working on? Any new QoL-level stuff in the pipeline?

EW: Yeah, the team is constantly looking to improve everything across the board, and a lot of that is based on feedback from players. Whether it’s performance improvements, new content, or updates to existing game elements, we’re always looking at how we can make the experience better.

    Fortnite

PSB: Since adding Battle Royale, what change or tweak has made the biggest overall impact on gameplay?

EW: I think our inventory system has had such a positive impact overall. Being able to quickly pick up or swap items makes it very quick to grab exactly what you need. Some of our items also don’t take any inventory space, so running through a pile of loot to pick it all up is a really satisfying moment. All of this helps get you back to the action as quickly as possible.

We didn’t initially think 5 inventory slots would be enough — in fact, we even had plans right around launch time to increase the number of slots so players could carry more. But then we started seeing these really interesting choices about what players would carry, and how it forced people to prioritize what items they wanted. We realized pretty quickly that we shouldn’t make any changes to how that works.

PSB: Has the success of Battle Royale influenced Epic’s approach to the Save the World mode?

EW: We have folks working on both modes which are both influencing in a lot of ways. A lot of the content that comes into Battle Royale was designed for PvE first, for example. Going the other way, the Combat Pro control scheme that our team implemented into Battle Royale, the Save the World later adapted a version of that. We work closely with each other and share a lot of content, so players of both modes are seeing the benefits all of the time.

    Fortnite

PSB: What are some other “emergent gameplay” type experiences you’d like to see someone take a stab at?

EW: The thing about “emergent gameplay” is that players discover it, so we wouldn’t want to give too much away and even lead them in any one direction. We look at everything we add to the game, whether it’s the building mechanic or a new item, as a tool players can use. How they use them is what makes the moment to moment unique and surprising, and we love to see what players come up with.

PSB: Lots of folks are starting to dip their toes into the waters of Fortnite after seeing all the recent coverage and hearing about it from friends. If there’s one tip you would give to a brand-new player, what would it be?

EW: Building! Learning how to place a ramp to get onto the roof of a building is a great first step. Fortnite’s action-building system can be used for mobility, defense, or even offense, and becoming comfortable with the system is a great way to increase your chances of winning.

For example, if you get caught out in the open and begin taking fire, you can quickly build a wall or a ramp to give yourself some cover. This protection can give you a moment to heal, apply a shield, or reload a weapon.

PSB: We can’t let you go without asking: Any hints about what we can expect in the next Battle Pass?

EW: We like to surprise players, so sorry, I can’t say much! You’ll learn more soon.

  21. “There’s an internal journey for every human being,” God of War Creative Director Cory Barlog recently told me. “In the old games, we tackled more of the physical journey. The emotional journey, the internal journey, is far more intriguing now.”

Indeed. Kratos has come a long, long way since the closing moments of 2010’s God of War III. It’s not just the bushy beard, or the magical throwing axe, or the son traveling by his side. It’s his manner, his temperament. Something is different.

This is important because, as anybody who’s ever played God of War knows, Kratos has demonstrated exactly two emotions: effortless cool and bloodthirsty rage. And that was enough to propel him through six games — seven, if you count the mobile title. And for most of the series, his single-minded bloodlust was so overt and so unapologetic that it felt fresh, groundbreaking.

    God of War
But time affects us all, and 2018’s God of War will show us a side of the character we’ve never seen before. Watch our new video above to learn more about how Santa Monica Studio is evolving this iconic character.

As for Barlog? Some things never change. “I have always had this overdelivery complex,” Barlog said. “I keep obsessively adding things, making the game bigger and better, because I can’t leave anything on the table. I want to give the whole experience. You’ll pay $60? You’ll get everything I can possibly give.”

The excitement is palpable. God of War returns to PlayStation on April 20.

  25. Beneath the evening skies of Endor, the might of the Empire means little to the Ewoks as they fight for control of their home world. In Ewok Hunt, Star Wars Battlefront II’s exciting new mode, spears and blasters battle for dominance as a squad of stormtroopers are ambushed by a tribe of Ewoks descending from the trees to channel their hidden fury. Available only for a limited time, Ewok Hunt lets you stalk your Imperial enemy under the cover of night, or desperately fight to hold off the pint-sized throngs until you can escape.

    The Battle Begins

In the new mode, you start as an Ewok or in a group of stormtroopers. The ambush begins as the Ewok attacks the unsuspecting stormtroopers, using spears, Wisties, and whatever abilities they can muster to take down the intruders. Each stormtrooper defeated spawns as another Ewok. If the Empire’s forces have been completely eliminated, the Ewoks win and their celebration can begin.

    Star Wars Battlefront II

However, the stormtroopers’ superior training and firepower are more than a match for the frantic Ewoks. Armed with an arsenal of weapons as well as flashlights to cut through the darkness, players must hold back the Ewok ambush if they have a hope of surviving until an extraction team can arrive.

Crystals Return – and Some Special Appearances

Our April update isn’t just about Ewok Hunt. As part of this month’s release, Crystals will return to Star Wars Battlefront II as one of the ways for fans to unlock Appearances, including Endor Leia and Endor Han. Real-world currency can only be used to purchase Crystals, which are only redeemable for Appearances (learn more about Crystals in our FAQ). Credits are earned through in-game activity and can be redeemed toward Appearances, as well. Over 50 additional Appearances to personalize your units will be made available in this update.

And if you haven’t seen our big Progression Update yet, be sure to check it out – you don’t know what you’re missing! It’s already a big hit with players and fans.
