As another year of gaming comes to a wintery close, we wanted to take a look back at the top 16 trailers for 2016. These are the top-performing videos from the PlayStation YouTube channel, along with a sprinkling of our personal favorites. We saw some tremendous reveals this year, including the recently released debut trailer for The Last of Us Part II. But there was so much more to watch, from the exquisitely animated action in the Overwatch “Alive†short to the latest trailer for supernatural samurai game Nioh. What were your favorites this year? What did we miss? Let us know in the comments below, and happy holidays! 1.) Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare The Call of Duty team knows how to cut a trailer. A sampling of the ferocious ground combat and pulse-pounding space battles that made Infinite Warfare a total rush.2.) Days Gone The long-awaited reveal of Sony Bend’s latest, Days Gone blends the post-apocalypse with the exhilaration of the open-road. An excellent piece of narration here.3.) Death Stranding A triumphant return of acclaimed developer Hideo Kojima, and a stronger push into the realm of the strange and supernatural. Can’t wait!4.) Detroit: Become Human The developers behind Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls aim to evolve their interwoven narratives and jaw-dropping visuals with Detroit.5.) Doom The most metal first-person shooter you can find today, with a killer trailer to match.6.) Final Fantasy XVA royal road trip finally takes shape after years of development. Add in a little Afrojack for good measure. 7.) God of War One of the greatest reveals in video game trailer history, and all because our iconic warrior was feeling a bit peckish.8.) Horizon: Zero DawnHorizon: Zero Dawn is one of the most anticipated games of 2017, and after watching this video it’s easy to see why. 9.) Injustice 2I’m not going to say that I love seeing beloved superheroes fight, but… 10.) The Last GuardianWith a sweeping chorus and tremendous set pieces, this trailer does a superb job in teasing the emotional bond between boy and beast. 11.) The Last of Us Part II OMG.12.) Marvel vs. Capcom: InfiniteMany cheers were shouted during PlayStation Experience 2016 when Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite hit the stage. Let’s enjoy a second viewing… 13.) Nioh There’s palpable anticipation behind Nioh, and it’s clear why: with gorgeous visuals and a brutal campaign, Dark Souls fans are already clamoring for another challenge.14.) OverwatchFew games have been enriched so deeply by trailers. Overwatch is a special case, with vital story and character development being told through Blizzard’s spectacular animated shorts. 15.) Spider-ManAnother fantastic reveal from E3 2016, and an exciting chapter in the history of Insomniac Games. 16.) Uncharted: The Lost Legacy The Uncharted: The Lost Legacy trailer ranks up there with God of War in terms of grin-inducing reveals. Expertly crafted, and the perfect way to round out 2016! Hey KOF fans! I have some great news for you today! As part of our special Christmas and Holiday Season promotion, we are releasing a new DLC costume and a selection of Original PS4 Themes for the fan-favorite pop-idol Athena Asamiya today! The DLC costume is based on Athena’s iconic KOF ’98 look. Athena has changed her fashion up quite a bit over the years, but this one has always been a popular choice among fans. For the Original PS4 Themes, we will be releasing a “Santa Girls†theme in keeping with the holiday season, along with an “Athena All Stars†Theme that showcases all of her unique styles over the years! This new DLC costume will be available for download free for a limited time today through January 22 for all PS4 players. Make sure to grab the DLC costume right now before it becomes a paid download a month after release! I also wanted to take this chance to discuss the upcoming Ver 1.10 patch for The King of Fighters XIV that everyone is eagerly awaiting. Our development team has been working hard to respond to some of the feedback we have received from fans and Ver. 1.10 marks a large step forward in improving the game’s visual presentation in particular. With this update, aspects such as the shaders and lighting have been upgraded to improve the overall visuals. We also listened to your feedback regarding color variations, and will be increasing the total number per character from 4 to 6. Check below for some images showing off both aspects of this update! This update is planned to launch on January 11, 2017 and we will have a special Demo Ver. 2 ready for players before the official release so they can get an early taste of the updates. Don’t forget that you will also be able to see this update in its full glory during The King of Fighters XIV World Championship event that begins with the “Four Kings Tournament†in Tokyo (Akihabara) on February 18, 2017. This is just the start of our plans for The King of Fighters XIV going forward, and we have even more reveals planned for 2017 and beyond! Stay tuned for more exciting announcements! As we come to the end of 2016, we thought there would be no better way to round off the year than to give you guys the opportunity to try out Nier: Automata yourselves. It’s the season for giving, after all, so we’re excited to announce that the Nier: Automata playable demo is available to download from the PlayStation Store for free later today! The demo takes you to an abandoned factory, following android 2B’s mission to destroy a massive enemy weapon that lies within. You’ll get to use a variety of both short and long range weapons to take down hordes of enemy machines. The combat is action-packed, fast-paced, super slick, and there are multiple difficulties — so once you’ve got the hang of things, you can really test and refine your skills. I’d be very impressed to hear how many of you can complete the demo on the hardest difficulty! To celebrate the Nier: Automata demo release, we’ve got a new trailer showing off some weapons you might recognize: Eagle-eyed Square Enix fans have probably already figured out what the new weapons are the Engine Blade — Noctis’ signature weapon in Final Fantasy XV — and the Cypress Stick from the Dragon Quest franchise. They will both be unlockable in the final game so you don’t have to worry about downloading them as additional DLC. We’re going to keep how you obtain them a mystery for now, though. The news doesn’t stop there though! From today you can also pre-order the Nier: Automata Day One Edition directly from PlayStation Store. In addition to the Day One Edition six bonus DLC items, the PSN digital pre-order edition also comes with an additional three exclusive DLC items and a static theme. In case you missed the news, we also recently announced the Nier: Automata Black Box Edition which includes a YoRHa android 2B figurine, a 64 page hardback artbook, a soundtrack selection CD (featuring 13 live recorded songs from Nier and Nier: Automata), in-game bonus DLC, a steelbook case, and special collector’s box. It’s available in limited quantities from the Square Enix Store so be sure to pre-order one if you don’t want to miss out. Nier: Automata tells the story of androids 2B, 9S, and A2, and their battle to reclaim the Earth from powerful enemy machines who have driven humanity from their home. The demo will give you a glimpse of the game’s story, and there’s a lot of spectacular moments with distinct Nier style twists in it, too. I don’t want to spoil any of it for you as they’ll be even more exciting to experience yourself, but I hope the demo gets you hyped to play the full game when it comes out on March 7, 2017. I think that’s enough news for one day. Hopefully you’ve been able to download the demo so you don’t have to stick around here any longer, go play it and let us know what you think afterwards! Thanks for reading, and from the Nier: Automata team — Happy Holidays! See you in 2017! View the full article

The end of the year is upon us, and that can mean only one thing — well, actually it means lots of things. The thing that it means in the context of this post, though, is that PlayStation.Blog’s annual Game of the Year awards are upon us! 2016 kept us busy, opening with the long-awaited release of The Witness and ending with the similarly long-awaited launches of Final Fantasy XV and The Last Guardian. The rest of the year was punctuated by hit after hit: Uncharted 4, Ratchet & Clank, Inside, Overwatch, Dark Souls III, Titanfall 2, Doom, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, Battlefield 1, Rise of the Tomb Raider… the list goes on! Anyway, it’s time to make this official. Starting right now, the polls are open for the PlayStation.Blog Game of the Year 2016 awards. We’ll keep them open until the end of the year — that’s 11:59pm Pacific on December 31 — then tally up the votes and present the winners. Don’t see your pick in our list of nominees? Never fear! There’s a write-in option for each category, so feel free to cast your vote for whichever game you think deserves the Platinum. But that’s enough from me… let’s vote! Best PS4 Game Best PS4 Game Best PS Vita Game Best PS Vita Game Best Independent Game Best Independent Game Best Use of PS4 Pro Best Use of PS4 Pro Best PlayStation VR Game Best PlayStation VR Game Best Story Best Story Best Performance Best Performance Best Soundtrack Best Soundtrack Best Visuals Best Visuals Best Multiplayer Best Multiplayer Best Post-Release Content Editor’s note: In years past, we’ve called this category “Best Expansionâ€â€¦ but that felt a bit limiting. This year, we’re expanding the category to recognize all forms of post-release content: DLC & add-ons, in-game special events, new modes, new episodes, new characters, the works. When you vote, take it all into consideration! Best Post-Release Content Most Innovative Most Innovative Most Anticipated Editor’s note: As in previous years, any game that has previously won a “Most Anticipated†award is not eligible to win a Trophy this year. That said, you can still vote for previous winners Horizon Zero Dawn and Persona 5, and we will call them out appropriately in the winners post should they place. Furthermore, this year we are removing the year from this category. That means you can vote for any game that is currently announced, even if it doesn’t have a release date or year set. Go nuts! It’s been a truly momentous year for PlayStation. 2016 has offered one of the most diverse 12 months in PlayStation history, whether you’re exploring exotic locales, screaming at friends in an overstressed kitchen, becoming an iconic dark knight, or punching the air after scoring Play of the Game. With so much choice, it’s impossible to pick an easy Top 10 from this year. Instead, we asked those who’ve transported us to worlds beyond our imagination for their personal favorites. These are the best PlayStation game moments of 2016, as chosen by developers the world over. Batman: Arkham VRAs chosen by… “Its use of the Move controllers for accessing gadgets, navigating and interacting with items and scenery, really set the standard for an intuitive and compelling experience in VR. The game is full of memorable moments, but the standout for me took place in the latter part of the game in a prison cell. Without saying too much, it made me feel completely absorbed into Batman’s world where I felt anxious, vulnerable, and overwhelmed, but all in a good way — and gave me an experience that could only be had in VR.†-Phil Nightingale // Senior Designer on Tethered, Secret Sorcery Battlefield 1As chosen by… “There are a lot of speedy shooters out there these days, where you’re rushing around killing everything, but Battlefield 1 is a little slower — in a good way. It sort of matches the era that’s depicted in the game, so it was a fresh perspective on recent shooters and that’s why I really enjoyed it.†-Yosuke Hayashi // Game Director on Nioh, Team NinjaCall of Duty: Infinite WarfareAs chosen by… “My new guilty pleasure: COD’s zombie mode. It’s strangely relaxing to kill zombies while flowing through the map. I’ve skipped the franchise for many years and so this is my first time trying this out. I always enjoyed co-op survival modes since Unreal Tournament 2004 Invasion Mod!†-Dominic Guay // Senior Producer on Watch Dogs 2 , Ubisoft MontrealDarkest DungeonAs chosen by… “There are so many reasons to love this game: the narrator, the gameplay, the punishing, brutal failure, the tense exploration, the whole theme… Yeah. I love this game. I come back to it again, and again, and again… and again. (I worry about that, though. It is brutally unforgiving. Is there something wrong with me?)†-Jason Vandenberghe // Creative Director on For Honor, Ubisoft Montreal Dark Souls 3As chosen by… “It’s a no-brainer: Dark Souls 3 has the fullest game experience, a universe that’s both rich and consistent, an unparalleled depth in all game aspects — definitely my champion in 2016.†-David Guillaume // Artistic Director on The Crew, Ivory Tower “I watched one of our animators take part in a Dark Souls 3 speed challenge at EGX Rezzed and it piqued my interest to finally take the plunge and give the series a go. The sense of threat, trepidation, and subtle world building sucked me in utterly. Sure, it’s punishing, but the sense of achievement after cracking a tricky section or boss is unparalleled. It’s a strange compulsion, like eating chilli. I was hooked.†-Alex Kanaris-Sotiriou // Art Director on Rigs, Guerrilla Cambridge “There’s a lot of opinions in our company which one is the best [game in the franchise], but in terms of what’s the best series out there, I think that’s one of the clear winners. There are a lot of odd titles here and there that improved what gameplay can be in games. There’s a few spotlights out there, but I think the Dark Souls series has really been the shining light for that. And in 2016, that was really cool point to see that.†-Mikael Haveri // Head of Publishing, Nex Machina, Housemarque Dishonored 2As chosen by… “My personal favorite gaming moment of 2016 was finding and eliminating the Crown Killer in Dishonored 2. The entire Addermire Institute environment was soaked in history and atmosphere, and the act of non-lethally dispatching the Crown Killer (with all of the surrounding circumstance, which I don’t want to spoil here) was an awesome sequence of events.†-Matthias Worch // Design Director on Mafia III, Hangar 13 “I had already spent a good amount of time in the game already, and was loving it, when I came upon the fourth mission: The Clockwork Mansion. Not going to lie, entering a level that involves a lot of puzzles and a constantly shifting landscape made me nervous. However, it quickly became my favorite level as I felt constantly challenged and when I figured something it out was very emotionally rewarding. Just talking about it gets me hyped up to play again, so off I go for a second playthrough!†-Lilith Newman // FX/Tech Art Producer on Borderlands, Gearbox SoftwareDoomAs chosen by… “Doom was a delight to play, and a tour de force of genius level design. The whole game was a nonstop barrage of enjoyment, but it really reached its peaks during the forays into hell. What an homage to and leap beyond the original. -John Watson // Technical Director on The Banner Saga, Stoic “I really enjoyed it. I thought it had a great balance of risk and reward, and the game design encouraged you to engage with the opponent.†-Gavin McCarthy // Art Director, Household Games Inc “I’ve had a lot of fun with it — it’s not trying to be more than what it is. At the beginning of the game you have a sequence where a guy pops up on a monitor and tries to explain what’s going on, and your character just smashes it: there’s no time for story. You just take a gun and start killing demons. No nonsense.†-Andrew Kephalidis // Gameplay Animator on Watch Dogs 2, UbisoftDragon Quest BuildersAs chosen by… “I’ve played several games, but the one I’ve spent the most time playing was Dragon Quest Builders. There’s a bit more guidance than in Minecraft, and it made me understand the appeal of the phenomena.†-Fumito Ueda // Game Designer on The Last Guardian Eve ValkyrieAs chosen by… “For me it was the first ‘real’ space battle I had in VR. I’m a big fan of films like Top Gun and Star Wars, especially for the epic dogfights, whether that be in fighter jets or starships. Playing a game like Eve Valkyrie for the first time in VR was incredible, you really feel like you are actually sitting in that starship cockpit. Whether you are pulling a ‘fly-by’ up close to a massive carrier ship or dodging in between gaps in asteroid fields to chase down and take out other players in multiplayer, it feels unlike anything else you’ve played. All this with the added bonus of being able to look around 360 degrees with 3D audio is an incredible feeling.†-Mark Lintott // Technical Director on PS VR Worlds, London StudioFar Cry PrimalAs chosen by… “To me, Far Cry Primal is without a doubt the best player experience of 2016. Being in full immersion into the wild, alone is this hostile environment got me through some nerve-racking moments — and some long distressing nights listening to the wolves’ howling!†-Stéphane “Fergus†Beley // Game Director on The Crew, Ivory TowerFinal Fantasy XIV: HeavenswardAs chosen by… “Catching up to endgame content in FFXIV. Being able to play with my wife and friends from work and getting the sense of accomplishment of defeating brutal bosses with friends is hard to match.†-Jason Schroeder // Senior Producer on South Park, Ubisoft San Francisco Final Fantasy XVAs chosen by… “My favorite moment of 2016 has to be the title sequence of Final Fantasy XV. At the surface, it is just the user holding a button to push a car. But in the context of the game’s interminable development, the moment when the strains of ‘Stand By Me’ plays over what sounded like the Final Fantasy arpeggio was sublime. It felt like a huge weight was lifted from the chests of fans and devs alike, and I was happy to be a part of it. I can’t imagine a song better suited in keeping with the theme of brotherhood and thanking fans for their dedication.†-Ken Chua // Assoc. Sft. Engineer, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Crystal Dynamics “Definitely the introduction of Final Fantasy XV! I am a big fan of the franchise and I’ve been waiting for this game for literally ten years. When I finally launched it, it was nothing like what I expected… only better! The feeling of freedom, the sense of friendship, and Noctis’ weight of duty. All over one of my favorite songs Stand By Me interpreted by Florence + The Machine. A pure delight, totally worth the wait!†-Anthony Solaire // Intr. Product Manager on Just Dance, Ubisoft Paris “Finally getting to play Final Fantasy XV! It’s been a long time coming, but Tabata-san and all of the development team made it worth the wait.†-Spencer Yip // Director on Fallen Legion FirewatchAs chosen by… “The entire game kept me hooked from start to finish. The intrigue and the characters are so well fleshed out. The beginning of the game, where you make some text choices over a black screen while ambient music plays, gave me more emotions than all the blockbuster games out there. It’s a testimony to the developers’ sensitivity when it comes to crafting a very human, very profound narrative experience. Definitely one of my highlights of 2016.†-Jean-François Dugas // Exec. Game Director on Deus Ex, Eidos Montreal “My favorite gaming moment of 2016 was the very opening of Firewatch. You’re presented with the back story of Henry, the protagonist, and the events that have led to him taking a job in the wilderness at Two Forks Lookout. The back story is told through lines of text, but the writing is so brilliant and the narrative so compelling that you can’t help but be completely sucked in. The simplicity of the presentation makes you pay attention to every word, making the writing hit home hard, setting you up perfectly to feel and think as Henry throughout the game.†-Dominic Matthews // Product Development on Hellblade, Ninja Theory “For a moment, I’d have to say the start to Firewatch. The opening hits me with an emotional gut punch similar to what I felt while watching the beginning of Pixar’s Up. The artistry of the forest vistas following that incredible introductory story led me to want to visit Wyoming. That desire was a first for me. Campo Santo did an amazing job, and Olly Moss is a master at creating a memorable aesthetic. It’s rare when a video game can incite transference to inhabit a certain place in real life just using its pixels and rendered scenes.†-Eric Monacelli // Director of Communications, Infinity Ward Hyper Light DrifterAs chosen by… “It’s got to be Hyper Light Drifter. I absolutely love this game, it has so much style. I knew from the moment I saw it on Kickstarter I would play the heck out of it. I’ve recommended Hyper Light to nearly everyone I’ve spoken with. You can really see the meticulous care and passion the Heart Machine team put into it. The world design, visual storytelling, and ethereal music by Disasterpeace, all comes together to create an atmosphere that I want to replace my eyes and ears with. If you haven’t played it yet, you are missing something special. -Jeff Shaw // Game Designer on Plants v Zombies: Garden Warfare, PopCapInsideAs chosen by… “Getting chased by creepy humans and rabid dogs during the intro of Inside was one of our most intense gaming moments this year. It reminded us of the intensity of a normal day at E3. Joking aside, the emotion and anxiety communicated through that sequence greatly inspired us. This is one example showing how indie developers are able to push new experiences and new gameplay for the players to discover!†-Guillaume Voghel // Producer on Mordheim, Rogue Factor “I was amazed by Playdead’s Inside. The art direction was just brilliant, and the gaming experience was pleasant and frictionless. This game is full of very interesting, moving moments, and the last part is just totally mind-blowing. If you think that games with horizontal scrolling are dead, play Inside and you will be surprised at how talented people can take an old concept and make something original and meaningful with it.†-David Cage // Founder, Detroit: Become Human, Quantic Dream The Last GuardianAs chosen by… “It has to be The Last Guardian. Mainly because it’s now seen the light of day. But also because it’s a very personal story. We haven’t learned too much about the game. It’s about the relationship that you, playing as a boy, make with Trico. So it’s going to be something that’s very unique to everyone who plays it. And my experience playing it has been phenomenal, very personal, and it literally made me cry at the very end.†-Dave Thatch // Senior Director, ISD, Worldwide Studios AmericaNBA 2K17As chosen by… “In 2016 I’ve had a great time with NBA 2K17. How you enjoy games is also linked to who you play them with. This social aspect is very important for the games I work on. And this year I was able to play NBA 2K17 with my seven year old son; for the first time he is getting better than his dad!†-Nouredine Abboud // Sr. Producer on Ghost Recon: Wildlands, Ubisoft ParisNo Man’s SkyAs chosen by… “I think for me it was waiting for No Man’s Sky to come out; that was definitely the most memorable moment for me this year, I couldn’t wait for it to come out. “The game made me feel really happy. The pacing was just what I needed. It was calm, ambient. I could explore and take on whatever it had to throw at me at my own pace and in my own time. There was no pressure and that was really refreshing. It reminded me a little of Animal Crossing New Leaf. That sounds like an absurd comparison, but I love those sorts of games where you can plod along and do things how you want to but with no time pressure or no big bosses to deal with — I can make the game my own and imprint my own stories on to it. “It was really exciting and is still really exciting to play and to watch others play. I love the sci-fi genre in the way it makes you question existence and being and No Man’s Sky really ticks those boxes for me. I’ve particularly enjoyed watching my partner play it; there’s something calming and peaceful about watching someone else play and discover and commentate along the way. You sort of feel like you’re going on a journey together, but in the safety of your home, on your sofa.†-Michelle Ducker // Producer on Dreams, Media MoleculeOvercookedAs chosen by… “Realizing how Overcooked, the most fun party game this year and my Game of the Year, is also a huge test on friendship and relationships! Come on, I get shouted at for not cutting the onion fast enough! Love it!†-Audrey Leprince // Co-founder, Furi, The Game Bakers OverwatchAs chosen by… “Pulling off 10 victories in a row using an all Mercy team in Overwatch was pretty epic and chaotic at the same time. Trying to fill the niche roles using only a support character was a fun and challenging experience. The coordination of keeping each other healed and powered up was something to behold, especially when the opposing team focused their efforts on one individual.†-Matt Grise // Assoc. Producer on Rise of the Tomb Raider, Crystal Dynamics “It’s been a while since I played a shooter, and it was really interesting as a developer to play a game where you don’t really notice any flaws. The last game that had that was Journey. You play Overwatch and ask “where are the edges, where are the cracks, where can I see there’s been a shoddy job?†But it’s just so polished. And the sound is amazing. You can hear who’s coming after you based on the footsteps. It’s so expressive. It’s a joy to play.†-Martin Kvale // Audio Lead on Mosaic, KrillbitePlayStation VRAs chosen by… “It’s not a particular title, but the PS VR release was definitely my best PlayStation moment of 2016. It’s been awhile since I have seen gamers get so excited about something, and seeing everyone scrambling to get their hands on one felt good. It was the first time in a while I had seen such long lines outside of stores for gaming, and it was quite exciting to see.†-Katsuhiro Harada // Project Director on Tekken, Bandai NamcoThe Playroom VRAs chosen by… “My favorite gaming moment of 2016 was playing the VR Playroom with my family for the first time in a home environment. After spending so much time working in VR as part of my studio life, it was an incredible moment to share in their shock, wonder, and amazement of what this new technology can deliver. We must have played Monster Escape about 20 times in a row, swapping the VR headset and screaming with excitement as the monster gets launched into the sky at the end of the level. Amazing.†-Andrew Wilans // Lead Designer on Eve: Valkyrie, CCP Games Rez InfiniteAs chosen by… “I was a massive Rez fan when it first came out years ago, and bringing it to VR has ignited that for me again. This is the best that the game has ever been, and has completely immersed me visually and aurally for weeks now. I play it after a long day of developing MEA.†-Michael Gamble // Producer on Mass Effect Andromeda, BioWare “A sensory rush greater than getting your pants stuck in the doors of a Tokyo subway train. Crashing through a nightclub. In The Matrix.†-Andy Robinson // Writer on Yooka-Laylee, Playtonic GamesRise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year CelebrationAs chosen by… “The big bear battle/chase encounter in the Siberian wilderness. Brought back classic memories of the original bear baddies from the original Tomb Raider (which I actually worked on 20 years ago at Eidos). It was a truly great, action-packed sequence with shades of inspiration drawn from The Revenant!†-Mike Schmitt // Marketing Director on Killing Floor 2, Tripwire Interactive Titanfall 2As chosen by… “I was rodeo-ing an enemy Titan and the pilot ejected sending us both flying sky-high. Then he grapple-hooked me out of mid-air and melee drop-kicked me for the kill. Yeah, my favorite moment was one where I died. I don’t know if that happens all the time with awesome players, but it’s only happened to me once. Either way, I was honored to play my part in such a glorious moment.†-Brian Hayes // Creative Director on EA Sports UFC 2, EA Canada “The time travel section of Titanfall 2 is the most fun I’ve had with a game all year. Looking down through a glass floor at a room full of bad dudes and realizing that I needed to hop time once to fall in, then again to avoid falling into a pit of fire only to be stuck in the room with the enemies, was very, very cool. Honestly that entire game is nothing short of brilliant from start to finish — a masterpiece of level design. -Dave Crooks // Game Designer on Enter the Gungeon, Dodge Roll “I really enjoyed the Titanfall 2 campaign mode. The gunplay is very satisfying, the environments look amazing on PS4, and the setting brings back memories of one of my all-time-favorites, Silent Bomber (PS1, 1999).†-Mathijs de Jonge // Game Director on Horizon Zero Dawn, Guerrilla Games Uncharted 4: A Thief’s EndAs chosen by… “Offroading with my jeep in Uncharted 4. It was fun to take a moment and relax in an otherwise intense game, and enjoy the incredible craft of what the Naughty Dog team put together.†-Jake Solomon // Creative Director on XCOM 2, Firaxis Games “It’s just such a great game. I loved every moment.†-Masachika Kawata // Producer on Resident Evil VII, Capcom “Definitely Uncharted 4, particularly the Madagascar chase scene. Such a well put together and dynamic set piece!†-Chris Davis // Founder, The Escapists, Mouldy Toof Studios “The intro sequence with the toy gun really made me laugh.†-Sébastien Arnoult // Producer on Steep, Ubisoft Annecy “It’s been a great year for gaming, but for me, the standout moment has to come from Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End tale. Towards the end of the tower collapse level on Liberteria, there’s an action scene featuring Drake, Sam, and Nadine where you get to experience what is for me, is one of the best looking, most fun, and expertly choreographed sequences in recent video game history. I must have played this section a dozen times and it still leaves me coming back for more.†-Tim Wileman // Producer on Lego Star Wars, TT Games “Apart from launching Batman: Arkham VR, the biggest moment of 2016 for me has to be the Madagascar section in Uncharted 4. Naughty Dog’s accomplishments here are spectacular: gorgeous views, great character interaction, and a wonderful sense of freedom. It all adds up to a hugely memorable section in an already incredible game.†-Gaz Deaves // Social Marketing Manager on Arkham Knight, Rocksteady “I had a great time playing Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End this year. The environments are amazing and the gameplay is a blast from start to finish.†-Sarah Hebbler // Executive Producer on Rocket League, Psynoix “My best gaming moment for 2016 is Uncharted 4. Having had the opportunity to work on the franchise with Uncharted: Golden Abyss for PS Vita, Nathan Drake has a special place in my heart. The series has redefined storytelling with video games, and Uncharted 4 was an incredible send off for the characters and the journey that they took us on.†-Eric Jensen // Sr. Game Designer on Days Gone, Bend Studio “It was one of those things were I had to take a couple of days off work just to play it. The scene that I remember the most, and honestly it’s perhaps everyone’s favorite scene, it was going from the church where things were falling, and then there was the chase scene all the way through the downtown of the city. You get on a truck, then you’re knocking people off it, then you’re on the dirt bike, then there’s a tank chasing you… That entire sequence was really memorable to me, because my wife — she’s not so much of a gamer — walked in just as I got to that part and just sat there awestruck as I was going through a 15 minute series of amazing events. And it was like ‘Oh my god, is this a movie?’ ‘No, I’m playing right now!'†-Scott Campbell // Creative Director on Starblood Arena, WhiteMoon Dreams “I beat Uncharted 4 and loved that. I play a lot of games of all types of genres, but the sheer production values of something like Uncharted again raised the benchmark.†-Hermen Hulst // Co-founder, Horizon: Zero Dawn, Guerrilla Games “I played and loved a lot of games this year. Uncharted 4 was everything I hoped for and expected in an Uncharted game, and when I was playing it I couldn’t believe the production values. I mean, look at the leaves, alone! Goddamn those leaves — as a developer the standard for leaves was just raised to a crazy point. I really enjoyed the game. †-Tim Schafer // Co-Founder and Designer on Grim Fandango, Double FineUncharted: The Nathan Drake CollectionAs chosen by… “I’m torn between the [uncharted: Nathan Drake Collection] and 4. I’ve only just started Thief’s End, and I’d forgotten how good [the originals] were. I don’t have a lot of time to play games, and certainly games of 10, 15 hours. So to get back into it was quite an effort, just in terms of carving out a bit of time, making sure I was in the zone to play games. It was nice on a personal level to connect back with them and get ready for Uncharted 4.†-Mark O’Connor // Producer on Wipeout Omega Collection, Sony XDev The WitnessAs chosen by… “My best PlayStation gaming moment of 2016 was the several times in The Witness that I thought my brain would crack and fail. A few times I would start in on a puzzle, thinking at first, “What is this? There’s no way to do this!â€, only to break through the preconceptions I had about how a puzzle worked and have the impossible turn into common sense.†-Ian Milham // Game Director on Rise of the Tomb Raider, Crystal Dynamics “I thought it was cool, thought it was interesting. It wasn’t a regurgitation of something else.†-James Austin // Director on Boundless, Wonderstruck View the full article

Happy holidays! We hope you’re having a fun, festive time. Got any gifts from our 12 Days of Winter on your list this year? We have more goodies in store for you this coming year and we’re kicking the new year off properly with Sabotage, our jam-packed first DLC pack of the season. We’ve been playing online and listening to our community since launch. There’s been a lot of conversation about what new content you’d like to see and how it could fit our multiplayer and Zombies modes. The finer points of that dialogue are reflected in the diversity and ingenuity of the four new maps and continuation of the Zombies narrative we’ve developed for Sabotage. Take a look behind the scenes at the exciting new content we’ve been hard at work creating: Our Zombies co-op mode map included on-disc, Zombies in Spaceland, took fans into the twisted, macabre mind of film director Willard Wyler. Rave in the Redwoods is a 1990s-slasher horror movie set in an old lakeside camp that’s been taken over for a weekend rave party. After finding a piece of the soul key, our heroes find themselves decked out in some tight, fly ‘90s attire and trapped in Willard Wyler’s biggest horror film of his career along with some special guests. They’ll have to survive the campgrounds and the zombie ravers that have turned the camp into a techno fueled illusion. It’s a tense, spooky thrill ride with some shocking twists, surprises, and, of course, a slew of super fresh Easter eggs for players to discover. It’s all that and a bag of chips. Our four new multiplayer maps in Sabotage feature unique layouts, various lanes for frenetic engagements and a ton of very cool art. Here’s a rundown of what you’ll be playing slaying on once the pack drops: Dominion – A re-imagining of the classic Afghan map from Modern Warfare 2, now set on Mars, Dominion retains all the memorable landmarks and gameplay of the original, but is enhanced to fit the new movement system. Noir – A dark, grimy city map inspired by a futuristic Brooklyn at night, Noir is set against a distant future metropolitan backdrop with cafes and parks surrounding a brutal downtown warzone. Neon – A virtual training center designed for urban warfare, Neon is a unique, digitized battle space where cars and other structures generate out of thin air and enemies dissolve into hundreds of pixels when they’re defeated. Renaissance – A daytime city setting in Venice, Renaissance pits players against each other in the streets of Italy with sprawling architecture and buildings that cater to all play styles. Want to get all this content at a discounted price? Grab the Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Season Pass for access to Sabotage, and all our upcoming DLC packs. If you haven’t geared up and gotten in on the action yet, our Digital Deluxe Edition is a tremendous gaming value that really has yet to be topped. Sabotage will be available January 31, first on PlayStation. See you online and out there, soldiers! View the full article

Lethal VR is a virtual reality shooting experience where you step into the shoes of an FBI recruit. One of the most unique aspects of Lethal VR is that, unlike more traditional games, it rewards real world physical skills above learning complex button layouts on a controller. For example, if you have quick hands and fast reflexes, you’ll have a fast quickdraw in Lethal VR; if you are accurate on the shooting range in real life, you’ll be an accurate shooter here; the more flexibility and stamina you have the better you will perform in certain challenges. The more you play the game, the more you will train and develop these real life physical skills. To help get you started, here are some tips for having the most fun and getting some great scores: 1.) Get the most out of throwing weapons. Really act out the throw. Throw with a flick of the wrist, letting go of the Move controller trigger at the point you would let go of an actual Knife. Always be aware that they will fly in the direction you are looking. The best way to score big with throwing weapons is to hit knife targets multiple times before they vanish, the more knives in a target the greater the potential score. 2.) Combine speed and accuracy. It’s easy to get over excited. Try not to “spray and pray.†Stay calm and plan your shots. The best way to earn a Lethal rating is to combine fast multiple hits on a target in the highest scoring zones. But be aware of civilian targets and penalty targets on some rounds — hit one of them and your round will be over. 3.) Check out the bonus rounds. Earn a rating in all 5 rounds in each difficulty level and you’ll unlock a Bonus Round. Here you’ll get to use some extraordinary weapons in some unusual scenarios. These are inspired by some of our all-time favorite weapons from the world of movies. 4.) Read the round descriptions. Make sure that you pay attention to each of the round descriptions when you play a round for the first time. Each description contains valuable information that can make the difference between a good score and great one. 5.) Stay on top of your reload management. In all the excitement it’s easy to forget how many shots you have fired — so don’t waste time pulling the trigger on an empty clip. Keep track of your ammo counter and use pauses in between targets to reload your weapon. Every round has a time bonus score that’s counting down as soon as the round begins, so wasting time reloading can be costly. 6.) Aim for bonus scores. There are lots of different ways to get more score in a round. The best agents always go for these: Hit every target in a round with a Bullseye to earn a Bullseye Bonus. Hit every target in the head to earn a Killer Bonus. Shoot or throw at high speed to earn the Quick Throw and Quick Fire bonus. Go for multiple headshots and bullseyes in the same target for escalating bonus scores. Shoot all headshots or bullseyes without missing to earn a Perfect Bonus. Try to hit them all twice or even three times each and you will earn a Double or Triple Perfect Bonus. Combining these score bonuses in a single round is the key to getting some really big scores. These tips will help you get started towards getting some awesome scores and attaining your Lethal rating in every round. Do you have what it takes to be Lethal? View the full article

Picture this: a razor-sharp sword in each hand. A mysterious dojo in the background, and truckloads of fruit flying into the air, all for the sole purpose of becoming a mess-making ninja. It sounds simple. Too simple. But it works, and it’s fun, and that’s really all that matters. The game is called Fruit Ninja VR, and I’m excited to announce that it’s coming to PlayStation VR today — just in time for Christmas. Fruit Ninja was first released on mobile devices back in 2010, a magnificent time when touchscreen devices were still new and my voluptuous beard had slightly less grey in it. Since then the game has been downloaded more than one billion times and our team has continued to perfect it. We took that game and with the luxury of no real time pressure, the team went to town on perfecting this arcade game and recreating it for PlayStation VR. Slicing fruit with your fingertips is one thing, but slicing fruit in virtual reality with PlayStation Move Motion Controllers is a whole new ball game. It doesn’t just “feel†good. It’s an amazing, visceral experience. I should know… I’ve spent more time waving my arms around like a madman than anyone else at Halfbrick! Now, thanks to PlayStation VR, you too can enjoy this bizarre act without the expensive grocery bill. Think about it. Why convince a friend to pelt fruit at you when you can enjoy four addictive game modes — Classic, Zen, Arcade, and Survival — all from the comfort of your living room? There are even crafty little helicopters that fire fruit and bombs at you to keep you on your toes. Good luck replicating that in real life! To wrap it up, I have some spoilers to share. The team really did have the time to toy with this game and get every detail right. You’ll discover this as you slice, skewer, juggle, and flick fruit. A Fruit Ninja first has also made its way into the game: you’ll be able to interact with the famous spiralling bombs by deflecting and juggling them without them exploding. Enjoy. Exciting news for all you RIGS pilots out there: tomorrow, December 20, we’ll be kicking off the Winter Season Update! Our plan is to drop content throughout the winter, ensuring that you’ll have plenty of mechanized combat action to keep you warm through the holidays! The Winter Season starts on December 20 with the opening of the first European stadium in the Mechanized Combat League, located in Zurich, Switzerland This new arena draws a lot of inspiration from skate parks, and focuses around four sunken bowls that flow into the surrounding structures to allow the RIGS to achieve big air jumps. The new arena can be played in single player as well as multiplayer mode, and will come with its own set of Trials to complete for credits and fame. On December 27, you’ll be able to pilot the first batch of APX RIGS. These upgraded versions of the original RIGS will feature an enhanced boost system, giving them a much higher top speed in addition to new air-dodge and back-dodge abilities. There’s a tradeoff, though: to achieve a much higher boost, APX RIGS are outfitted with a lighter form of armor that does not offer the same level of protection as the armor on the original RIGS. The first RIGS groups to receive the APX treatment will be the Test Rigs and the Vampire RIGS, with the Nuke RIGS to follow on January 10th. Every week we will share new Weekly Trials, which will consist of high-risk, high-reward skill challenges. In order to obtain the reward, which consists of a unique pilot customization item and a very large amount of credits, you will be required to pass through all six Trials consecutively and at increasing difficulty, without failing. The Winter Season update will also introduce a Customization Store. Here, you’ll be able buy new customization options for your pilot using the credits you earned playing the game. The best thing about the Customization Store is that we’ll be updating it on a regular basis with new and even limited items. This is only the start of the season, and we plan to roll out additional updates in the coming months, so make sure you stay tuned to our official Twitter and Facebook channels for the latest news. For now, please mark December 20th in your calendars as the official start of the RIGS Mechanized Combat League Winter Season. Game on, Pilots! View the full article

Surfing is one of the world’s iconic extreme sports – here at Climax Studios, we’ve captured the intensity of the surging waves and killer tricks and pulled them into the world of gaming with Surf World Series. We’re bringing together 5 of the world’s most infamous surfing destinations, including Bells Beach, Australia and Waimea Bay, Hawaii, combining them with a unique selection of original tricks and gear – arcade style. Surf World Series is all about honing and testing your skills against 45 single player challenges designed to push you to the limit, and carving up the competition in online tournaments against up to 15 other surfers across three multiplayer modes. As developers, our goal was to capture the vibes that make surfing culture what it is – we amped up the intensity with powerful oceans, stunning backdrops and simple arcade gameplay. Surf World Series is easy to get into, but pulling off epic stunts and new school tricks makes it deceptively difficult to master. It takes timing, precision, and most of all, the drive to take on treacherous tubes and monster waves, or dominate the competition online. With tens of thousands of customisations, in Surf World Series you’ll have the freedom to design your own slick style and stand out from the crowd with your very own signature surfer. As you build up your skillset, performing new tricks and ranking up, you’ll unlock countless classic and original designs, with everything from wetsuits, boards, patterns and more. The wave system in Surf World Series was custom built to not only create a wave that looks and feels stellar, but also to have the swell behave as naturally as possible. You’ll feel the current pull against your board as you battle to stay balanced, stick the landing on massive aerials and ride out the heaviest waves. Without your toes on the sand, it doesn’t get much closer to the authentic surf experience than this. Keep up with all the Surf World Series action and news over at www.surfworldseries.com, and get all the behind-the-scenes sneak peaks on Facebook and Twitter. View the full article

Hello all. Stephen from Radial Games here to show you the new trailer for Fantastic Contraption, coming to PS VR next spring! Fantastic Contraption is a virtual reality puzzle/building game which transports you to an island floating in the sky, where animals lounge on the moon and the sky whales sing. There, you must construct various weird and fantastic contraptions to trundle, climb, or throw your way to victory through 50 mind-boggling levels. To help you along the way, you’ll have your toolbox in the form of Neko, the green cat that is powered by rainbow farts. Pull wheels, rods and more out of his back (he doesn’t seem to mind) and snap them together to make the contraption of your dreams. Build cars, tanks, catapults, conveyor belts, or maybe just some thingamajig that flails in the right direction. The goal of each level is simple: Get your squishy pink blob to the goal off in the distance. Or across the gap. Or above you. Or behind that wall. Or around a corner and underneath the world or… Wait, what do you mean underneath the world? How on earth am I supposed to get this thing all the way over there? Gah! I, uh… Sorry, I got distracted for a second there. Each level is different and while building is simple and intuitive, the solutions are endless! Show your creations to your friends! Or just sit back amongst the clouds and relax a while. See what your imagination can come up with in 2017! View the full article

The original version of Battlezone unarguably deserves its place in the pantheon of greats. 36 years ago, Atari unleashed the arcade game on the world and created an entire new genre: the first-person shooter. The cabinet also featured an innovative periscope viewer thorough which you’d peer into the game’s green wireframe world, creating an intimate, personal experience that resembled VR. When we designed Battlezone for PlayStation VR, we tried to extrapolate from the concepts of the original. We aimed to create a dynamic, modern VR shooter that still retained those core elements and recreated that feeling of being right there. With the game finally out we had some time to take stock, take a breath and have some fun with what we’ve made. A thought occurred: Could we recreate the original arcade experience in VR? Could we take that inimitable retro arcade feeling and bring it to players at home? Today, it’s my pleasure to reveal that we’ll very soon be adding Classic Mode to Battlezone, a faithful homage of the original game that takes you back to 1980 in PlayStation VR! You’ll still be in the modern Cobra tank, but otherwise it’s almost just like the original game, except this time you don’t need that periscope viewer to feel like you’re right there. And the best part is that Classic Mode will be a completely free update for all Battlezone owners on December 20th! We’re also adding new missions, levels and a game codex to Battlezone, and they’ll all be free too, but for today, let’s focus on Classic Mode. I have to say, making it wasn’t straightforward! The original 1980 cabinet used an old-school cathode-ray vector and recreating the glowing green lines using our modern in-house engine required some workarounds. Rather than make a brand-new wireframe renderer, we modelled wireframe tanks in 3D and used cunning trickery to keep the lines the same thickness, whether they were near or far away. Making something new feel retro is never as easy as it looks! Thankfully, during Battlezone’s development we experimented with tank movement, and as a result we’d already built in the original game’s classic, more realistic “twin track†controls. What that means is the left stick controls the tank’s left track, and the right stick the right track. Sounds simple, but in practice it requires a bit of skill to use! And they are a far departure from the modern controls you’re used to in Battlezone! In Classic Mode, you’ll have the option of either using the twin track controls or the modern controls you use in the campaign proper. Another old-school element we definitely wanted in was the iconic volcano. Back in 1980 it was the source of so many schoolyard rumours: Could you really reach it? Of course we took those rumours and ran with them, not only allowing players to reach the volcano but making it the campaign goal! I’m afraid in Classic Mode, you can drive towards the volcano for as long as you like, but you’ll still never get any closer… or will you? Back in the days of the original, getting your name (or whatever passed for your name in the three characters you were allowed) on the top of an arcade cabinet’s high score table was the Holy Grail, a story to dine off at school for months. And it was heartbreaking when you’d see a cabinet unplugged and your score lost to the ages. Of course, you won’t have any such problems with Classic Mode because it will support online leaderboards! Losing your scores to a power cut is no longer a problem and you get more than three characters too! We hope they’ll inspire the same competitiveness among you that they did back then. Classic Mode is a love letter from us, the Battlezone team, to the great grand-daddy of VR and the neon-lit arcades it inhabited. It inspired the whole project so it seemed only right to pay tribute to it on our way. Battlezone’s free Classic Mode update lands December 20th. We hope you have loads of fun playing it, but whatever you do, don’t beat our high scores! Oh, and if you haven’t got Battlezone yet, now is a great time to get on board the Cobra tank – the full game is 30% off at PlayStation Store until December 20 — a perfect pre-holiday gift to yourself, I’d say! Hey everyone, Today, I’m really excited to unveil Sundered’s new trailer and to dive deep into the game’s design and gameplay influences. To kick things off, here is Sundered’s second trailer, Embrace: For those of you who don’t know, Sundered is a horrifying fight for survival and sanity. It’s a replayable Metroidvania where you resist or embrace ancient eldritch powers. The Embrace trailer introduces the third region in the game, the Eschaton City, and shows off the corruption aspect of the game which I’ll get into later in the post. Sundered’s core game loop revolves around exploring a procedurally generated dungeon and fighting hordes of dynamically spawned enemies to collect shards. When you die, you’re brought back to the central Hub where you can spend those shards in a Skill Tree. You’re then free to go back out into the caverns and progress a bit further. When we announced Sundered, many players argued that a Metroidvania could not be procedural. We respectfully disagree. Every time you die, the physical rooms in the dungeon are re-shuffled. Though the overall structure of the world is set in stone, subsections take a random sampling of preset rooms and assembles them to create a different flow every time. Think of it like Diablo 2, where the progression of the levels is always the same, but the individual tiles are always different. This allows us to make design choices which are core to a Metroidvania experience like backtracking and unlocking new abilities that unlock new regions. We didn’t stop there though. We want the monsters in Sundered to be unpredictable, for you to feel like madness is just around the corner. To achieve this, all the monster spawns are dynamic. Like in Left 4 Dead, the monsters spawn based on a number of factors (time, stress level, current region). This adds a multiplicative layer of uncertainty, since the second layer of randomness of the monsters gets added over the already random dungeon. This creates hordes of eldritch horrors that lurk within the shadows, waiting for the player to fall into their trap. Throughout exploration and combat, you collect Shards, and, when you die, you respawn in the Hub, the world’s central landmark. Here lies the Skill Tree, filled with Upgrades, Perks and the Metroidvania-style Abilities. Your Shards are spent on Upgrades, permanent stat boosting nodes like Health, Melee Damage and Critical Chance. These are the meat & potatoes of the Skill Tree and are the most common way of boosting Eshe’s powers. Next are Perks, which are gameplay-changing modifiers. Perks are found in the world, but equipped in the Skill Tree. Perks vary in power and the majority of them come with a downside to go with their powerful upside. All of these tie in to the feeling of “just one more run†we’re trying to nail. Finally, we come to the core of player progression: the Abilities. Abilities are found at Shrines in the world and are the real game-changers. In our PSX demo, you could find the Power Dash, a much more powerful move that replaces Eshe’s initial Roll. Once an Ability is found, it appears in the Skill Tree and unlocks a whole new section (a branch if you will), filled with new Upgrades. This brings us to Sundered’s catch phrase: Resist or Embrace. The Abilities can be corrupted. After defeating a boss, you receive an Elder Shard. This special relic can be brought to a Skill Shrine on the world to corrupt a specific Ability. A Corrupted Ability is a much more powerful version of the same gameplay mechanic, but it comes at a cost to your humanity. Corrupting an Ability has consequences on game mechanics, as you become more powerful, but has repercussions on the story and the game’s ending, as hinted to in the Embrace trailer. We hope you enjoyed this deep dive into Sundered’s design. As you can see, the game is much more mechanically complex than our previous game, Jotun, and we hope gamers will appreciate it. So far the response has been great and we can’t wait to show you more. If you want to stay in the loop, make sure to join our mailing list for all updates about the game (thunderlotusgames.com). As always, let us know if you have any questions in the comments and we’ll be glad to answer them! By the way! Max LL, Sundered’s composer, just posted the track used for the Embrace trailer: https://soundcloud.com/max-ll/madness View the full article

Valkyria Revolution (formerly Valkyria Azure Revolution, if you’ve been watching the title in Japan) is poised to make landfall on the shores of the Americas and Europe in 2017 on PS4 and PS Vita! Now, maybe you tried Valkyria Chronicles Remastered earlier this year, or maybe you and the rest of Squad 7 persevered through the Gallian Empire invasion back on PS3 in 2008. Well, take one last look at those memories, because war is about to change. Quite literally a revolution from previous Valkyria titles, Valkyria Revolution takes place in an alternate time, continent, and universe. However, there are a few common threads throughout: the magical, azure-colored mineral ragnite returns in this game; as do the Valkyria, the last of an ancient race of highly destructive, demi-gods. Valkyria Revolution shows how a single spark can ignite the inferno of war. Five lifelong friends consumed by personal revenge plunge an entire continent into a terrible war, sacrificing the lives of countless innocents for a cause based on twisted half-truths and outright lies. This “Circle of Five†use their combined political and military influence to motivate their small, economically blockaded homeland to rise up as a powerful resistance against imperialist oppressors. Will the Circle of Five be remembered as heroic liberators, or will their selfish motives expose them as traitorous conspirators who sacrificed untold lives just to carry out a personal vendetta? Heavy, right? That’s the story players will be chipping away at in Valkyria Revolution, but there are lots of other elements at play. It’s a ground-up look at war, and the blurred lines of morality it inevitably crosses. Ultimately, the game asks: Are you truly a hero? Or just the least despicable bad guy? And speaking of morality – permadeath is a returning gameplay element as well. Sure, it may be tactically advantageous to sacrifice a soldier for the good of the team, but you’ll have to be the one who bears the bad news to their next of kin. Combat is strikingly different from Valkyria Chronicles, as well. In Revolution, turn-based action is replaced with active-style combat on a living, evolving battlefield. Tactics still play an important role, and your squad has highly customizable AI. You can adjust their battle role to prioritize general roles like Offense, Defense, and Support, or you can get granular and have individuals focus on when to use spells or guns, or even whether they should target enemy grunts or leaders first. Plus, there’s a highly customizable weapons tree. Players can decide which upgrades they want to make to their unique, individual melee weapons, and augment by figuring out which ranged weapon works best – anything from a pistol to a rocket launcher. And finally, let’s not forget – this is war: the fate of a nation and countless lives are on the line. There are plenty of contacts you’ll have to make in order to keep the military intelligence going – and your relationship with your squadmates may mean the difference between difference between survival or ruinous defeat. Valkyria Revolution will arrive in the Americas and Europe in spring of 2017. The PS4 version will be available both physically and digitally in all regions. The PS Vita version will be digital-only for all regions. View the full article

Greetings fans of PlayStation around the world! I come to you through a foggy haze of sleep deprivation due to the major caffeine fueled push to get this crazy game further down the road to completion. While playing through the game with the leads recently I realized how incredibly fortunate I am to be able to make things that (hopefully) make people happy. We playtest the game exhaustively but still, as a team, we are pretty cut off from the players and fans over the multi-year course of developing a big game like this. While the time with play testers does give us a sense of what is working and what is not, it is getting a chance to sit down and spend some time with a passionate fan helps put so many things into perspective. God of War | PlayStation.com Just before our E3 reveal I had the opportunity to meet up with God of War super fan Emmanuel Mojica Rosas hailing all the way from Xalisco Nayarit, Mexico. At this point in the project this was probably the busiest and most stressful time for me but I was still incredibly excited to meet this guy to hear about his journey with God of War and see how he reacts to where we are taking the game. First, because I know how much the entire region of Latin America appreciates God of War. So much so that I want to go out there and meet more people when it comes closer to the release of the game. Second, I work in service of the audience and everything I do, every decision I make, is aimed at giving the player the best experience possible. The story and heart of the journey still comes from within, realized through the unending tenacity and creativity of an incredible team, but the end experience is painstakingly crafted for those who will play it. As a creator, being able to hang out and talk about the game with someone like Emmanuel, whose life has been impacted by God of War, was something very special to me. This project gave me a chance to work with Annie Sundberg and Ricki Stern, two incandescently talented directors whose previous works (In My Father’s House, The Devil Came on Horseback) I absolutely love. It is exciting to see how they took hold of the concept, made it their own and surprised me with the end result – and I was in it so that is saying something. In the end I feel like I made a good friend in Emmanuel. He truly inspired me with his overwhelming positivity and tenacity to overcome anything life can throw at him and made me realize that I would love to hang out with more fans from around the world. (Now back to being shackled to my desk working feverishly with the team on the game) Cory Bonus, Emmanuel crafted a pretty awesome Thank You video worth watching. View the full article
