Hello! I’m Andreas Zecher from indie studio Spaces of Play. I’m really excited to leave dark cold Sweden, and fly out to Anaheim to show you our game Future Unfolding at PlayStation Experience! Future Unfolding is an action adventure for PS4 that is all about exploration. Your goal is to unfold the mysteries and secrets hidden in the beautiful landscapes around you. There are no tutorials, and no one is telling you what to do. You discover the surreal, dream-like world and everything you can do in it yourself while you play. From the very beginning we designed the nature and wildlife to feel responsive and alive. Trees, grass, and stones move when you push through them. Even the ground can move and open up below you. We developed our own game engine to render a painterly art style with a lot of detail at a targeted 60 frames per second. Our dynamic sound track underlines the sense of a world full of life. During your journey you encounter different types of wild animals. Some of them are friendly and help you to solve puzzles that open up new areas. Other animals are dangerous — deadly, even. You need to avoid them, or find ways to turn them into friendly creatures. You can leave the beaten path at any time and hunt down secrets in the forgotten woods. Or go explore in hidden caves. It’s okay to get lost — a detailed auto-map helps you to orient yourself. Over time you map out more and more of the vast environments. There is always a way out. But where to go after? I’m excited to announce Fantasy Strike, a fighting game that’s coming at the genre from a different angle. We’re stripping out a lot of complexity that fighting games usually have and building everything around the idea of simple controls and easy execution while still being a serious, competitive e-sport. My background in fighting games goes back more than 25 years. I played Street Fighter 1 in arcades as a kid (Yes, really). I played many versions of Street Fighter and Guilty Gear competitively in many tournaments, including three Top 8 finishes at Evolution. I was also lead designer of Street Fighter HD Remix. I love fighting games, but they’re generally really hard to play. I’ve been frustrated for a long time that so much of the fun the genre has to offer is inaccessible to most people. I’ve made several efforts to bring the fun of fighting games to a wider audience. My card game called Yomi distills many of the dynamics that occur in fighting games down to a tabletop form, so even people with no dexterity skills can experience parts of what makes the genre great. My book, Playing to Win, explains the mindset of top fighting game players, so that everyone else can try to learn how the great players think. On Street Fighter HD Remix, I was able to slightly simplify the inputs to do some moves, and generally make the game a bit more accessible. But not until now have I been able to make an entirely new fighting game from the ground up, centered around the idea of including as many players as possible. Fantasy Strike has simple 1-button inputs for all moves. It doesn’t even have crouching, so even movement is simple. But let me tell you about my favorite feature, which is actually a 0-button input. Throws used to be really powerful in fighting games, but after years of players complaining that “throws are cheap,†developers made them weaker and weaker. I think that’s the wrong way to go about things though, because powerful throws are important to prevent a game from being too defensive. So in Fantasy Strike, we have powerful throws, but we have a unique feature that means you can always get out of them if you expect them. That feature is called a “yomi counter.†To perform it, you let go of your controls. That’s right, you let go of the d-pad and buttons, and though you are completely vulnerable to any hit or combo, if an opponent tries to throw you, you will automatically reverse it. You’ll throw them instead, and you’ll do it with a fancy, awesome animation special to your character. You’ll even get full super meter on top of that. Yomi counters are a bit hard to pull off in the heat of battle, but not because they are difficult to perform (obviously!). They require a really good read, but it’s oh-so-sweet when you land them. They are hype tournament moments waiting to happen. Right now we have 8 of the original cast of 10 characters from the Yomi card game in Fantasy Strike. We’re going to do a whole lot more polish and tuning, add more characters and modes, and implement online play using the excellent GGPO networking technology. Though we don’t want to ship until it’s truly ready, we love showing previews to our fans the whole way through development. Getting community involvement as we build the game keeps us on the right track, and it’s also way more fun that way. Stop by our booth at PlayStation Experience December 3 and 4, and check out our progress so far! View the full article

In sword-slinging action RPG Nioh, there are times where you will be afraid. And you will die. Often. Probably in some horrible fashion involving fire, ice, and/or sharpened metal. But that’s all part and parcel of a game where death is not the end, but merely the beginning of overcoming a variety of terrible foes. It’s a thrilling combat driven experience set in 16th century Japan that has you clammily clutching your DualShock 4 for dear life in desperate battles against vicious fiends and brutal monstrosities. It will not be easy, but developer Team Ninja is making sure every sweaty step is one you’re going to enjoy. If you’re as excited as we are for Nioh when it launches on February 7 in North America, then you’ll be delighted to hear that, as of today, pre-orders are live across PlayStation Store and your local retailers. On PlayStation Store, we’re offering two editions of the game: Standard Edition The full game Digital Deluxe The full game Weapon pack with five new weapons PS4 Avatar Season Pass Pre-order either edition to receive: The Nioh armor to equip in-game, inspired by the ancient statues that stand guard at temples across Japan. And a Nioh Dynamic Theme for PS4. In addition, if you pre-order Nioh or the Digital Deluxe Edition on PlayStation Store or purchase in the first two weeks after launch, you’ll also receive the Crimson Master Armor, another in-game armor but this time based on legendary samurai Yukimura Sanada. “We created Nioh to be a very challenging game, so we put a lot of thought into the design of its difficulty,†says Game Director Yosuke Hayashi. “For example, we had an enemy that throws a quick jab at you and causes immense damage, and it was difficult to avoid and defend against. So now these enemies may still attack you with the same level of damage, but we redesigned the movement of the jab itself so that it gives players a split second to dodge or block.†The rigorous alpha and beta testing that Nioh has undergone has only helped shape the PS4 game for the better. It’s been your all-important feedback which has — rather ironically — removed Team Ninja’s fear that many years of hard work were going to potentially miss the mark. “Nioh is a new IP, so in a lot of ways we wanted to get users’ feedback and understand whether we were going in the right direction,†explains Hayashi-san. “For example, some of the feedback we got from our users was that they didn’t want the battles to involve too many enemies, because it would be too challenging. So we looked at more one-on-one encounters where greater skill was required.†“That we were able to get people to like the game during the alpha and beta testing is something I’m really happy about. So as we get closer to launch, we’re putting a lot of pressure on ourselves to meet those high expectations.†That sense of anticipation has only grown with Nioh’s recently announced PS4 Pro enhancements, something Hayashi-san is delighted to take advantage of. “I’ve always felt that games on PlayStation were very visually compelling, but now seeing these games on PS4 Pro, my perception has exceeded that.†“Gamers don’t compromise on things like frame rate, so we really focused on maximizing the power of those particular aspects and introduced lots of visual options. For example, one is to play the game at a targeted 60 frames per second at1080p — it was great that I was able to realize this through PS4 Pro.†Of course, when you’re facing a giant, acid spitting, spider-bodied seductress, you may regret the visual fidelity on your screen. And given that you may need many hours to complete Nioh, there’ll be no shortage of gritty, challenging encounters. “We wanted to create impressionable bosses,†laughs Hayashi-san. “So you’ll discover a few when you play!†That said, as you’re assuming the role of the skillful Western samurai William Adams (based on a real life historical figure, no less), you have more than your fair share of ways to dispatch the horde of enemies which await. That includes a three-stance combat system, magic, and the ability to wield a myriad of weapons, such as dual katanas. And if that’s not enough, the smiling Game Director has a few pointers to potentially help reduce the ol’ mind-killer. “Don’t fear death,†Hayashi-san says. “While Nioh is a challenging game, if you carefully pay attention to the movements of your enemies, you’ll be able to find chances for an opening.†“And don’t be afraid to seek help from other players online from our great community, as there’s always someone out there who can offer guidance. Nioh is really about self-improvement. And in an era of games where there’s less lasting “death†in action titles, I want you to feel like you’ve genuinely accomplished something once you’ve completed it.†So, is your steely soul ready to handle the nightmarish creatures that await you in Nioh? Hi, everyone! Krillbite here, developers of the first-person horror game Among the Sleep on PS4. Today we are excited to announce that our next game Mosaic is also coming to PS4! With Mosaic, we decided to go for a different genre than our previous work. It retains the same “soul†and attention to atmosphere and narrative, but we are now making (it’s actually difficult to pinpoint the genre) something of a point-and-click adventure game! Mosaic is about a person living a bleak and repetitive life in a cold, systematic city. Every day looks and feels the same way and you have no meaning or sense of purpose in your life — until one day, when strange things start to happen around you and everything changes. We’re also excited that we’ll be at PlayStation Experience in Anaheim, California on December 3 and 4 presenting Mosaic! We’ll have a booth where you’ll find more information about the project, and be able to meet us. You can find us in the app for the event, and locate our booth. Come say hi, we’d love to talk to you about Mosaic, Among the Sleep, and videogames in general! We launched Among the Sleep on PS4 in December last year and the reception has been wonderful. It’s great hearing your thoughts and seeing you share your reactions to the game. It meant very much to us, so thank you for your support! If you haven’t played it yet, Among the Sleep is a psychological horror game from the perspective of a small child. You can check out the blog we did on it last year. For our new game Mosaic, we’re currently in the middle of production, and can’t wait to show you more of it in the coming year! We hope to launch it late 2017. Talk soon! View the full article

The new year for the Call of Duty team is usually about two months earlier than it is for the rest of the world. In early November a new title launches and the community starts a new experience. This is happening right now as Call of Duty fans everywhere are just getting their hands on Infinite Warfare. The Call of Duty new year is also something that happens with Call of Duty esports. Last year, with Black Ops III, we introduced the Call of Duty World League (CWL) and created a great foundation for Call of Duty esports. More than 1.2 billion minutes of live competitive Call of Duty was watched with more than 121 million views over the course of the season. The fans of Call of Duty esports are looking forward to this new year of esports, and so are we. The CWL team is excited to be a part of PlayStation Experience for some big announcements about the 2017 season and a special invitational tournament to kick off the new year. Season structure, game updates, and key events will all be discussed as part of the livestream prior to the invitational start. The invitational will take place during PlayStation Experience in Anaheim, CA, on December 3 and 4. As part of the eight-team invitational, Splyce, Team Elevate, Rise Nation, Faze Clan, Luminosity Gaming, Orbit, Renegades, and Evil Geniuses are scheduled to compete during the first official LAN broadcast of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. We encourage all our fans to come and check out the action live. If you can’t tune in live, we will be streaming all the action on MLG.tv and twitch.tv/CallofDuty. Stay tuned to the CWL on Twitter for livestream information and more CWL news. Get tickets to PlayStation Experience right here! View the full article

Welcome! October marked the launch of PlayStation VR, so we’re adding a new section to our monthly Top Downloads post. One may think a game about working wouldn’t make for an especially entertaining time, but players can’t seem to get enough of Owlchemy Labs’ hilarious VR debut Job Simulator, which was the most-downloaded PlayStation VR game last month. Batman: Arkham VR and Until Dawn: Rush of Blood rounded out the top three virtual reality debut titles. Battlefield 1 has turned a lot of heads by taking the series back to the early 1900’s, nabbing it the number one PS4 spot in October. Other PS4 highlights included Skyrim Special Edition Mafia III, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, and Titanfall 2. (Whew, there are a lot of good games coming out!) PS4 Pro is PlayStation’s most powerful console yet. But what does it look like on the inside? See for yourself in our new video where Keiichi Aoki, Director of Mechanical Design, disassembles the new system screw by screw. If you picked up a PS4 Pro at launch, what’s your experience been so far? In the short term, I’m planning on sticking with my current 1080p HDTV — I’ll still benefit from supersampling, which cleans up the presentation in Pro-supported games. And of course there are other benefits too, such as more consistent framerates, enhanced effects, and more in supported games. But I’ll be joining the 4K TV generation before long. What about you? Before I sign off, check out our PS4 Pro Ultimate FAQ to get answers to common questions, and our list of games with launch-day PS4 Pro support. Our EU PlayStation.Blog also has a great post detailing how to transfer your data from an existing PS4 to a new PS4 Pro. It’s surprisingly easy! View the full article

At Naughty Dog, we strive to make you, the player, feel as though you inhabit the stories, characters, and worlds we create. If we’re doing our job right, every aspect should feel believable and grounded in our fiction and we should elicit the same response in you as the characters are experiencing in the game. The key to it all is in details. Whether it’s animation, lighting, performance capture, dialog, or environment design, we spend a lot of time on even the smallest details that, when they all work together, help establish that emotional connection and sense of immersion. When we first learned about PS4 Pro, we were excited to see how we could drive new levels of fidelity and immersion in our games. We’re taking our first step by introducing day-one PS4 Pro support for Uncharted 4, The Last of Us Remastered, and The Last of Us: Left Behind. Whether you own a 4K HDR display, normal 4K display, or even just a 1080p display, you’ll be able to reap the benefits of PS4 Pro with our new game updates. Though, once you’ve seen them in 4K HDR, it might be hard to go back to anything else. Unprecedented DetailIt’s easy to think of resolution as simply a measure of clarity, but for games, it’s about more than just a sharp, clean image — it’s about a greater sense of depth and scale. PS4 Pro has allowed us to meaningfully increase the resolution so that you’ll not only appreciate more detail in the textures, but smoother, sharper edges that better distinguish characters, effects, and the environment. Terrain, buildings, and plant life that might otherwise blend together really stand out, creating life-like distance. It’s especially evident in the wide, sweeping landscapes of Uncharted 4, as well as the overgrown cities and towns of The Last of Us Remastered. Perhaps equally important, the higher resolution allows us to maintain that fidelity in motion, eliminating the shimmering that you might see on the standard PS4. For those with a 4K display, Uncharted 4’s story can be played on PS4 Pro at 1440p resolution, up from 1080p on PS4. Multiplayer’s fluid, high-framerate gameplay remains the same, but the resolution has also been increased to a full 1080p on PS4 Pro, up from 900p on PS4. The Last of Us Remastered, on the other hand, allows you to choose whether you want to play in the game’s original target framerate of 30 frames per second at 2160p or at a high targeted 60 frames per second at 1800p. However, those using PS4 Pro with a standard high-definition (1080p) display will also benefit. Both Uncharted 4 and The Last of Us Remastered will render at the highest resolution and downscale the super-sampled image to 1080p, resulting in noticeably crisp and smooth graphics. New Worlds of ColorCombining enhanced resolution with an HDR-capable display will only make the benefits of PS4 Pro more apparent when playing Uncharted 4 and The Last of Us Remastered. HDR drastically expands the range of color and brightness in both games, particularly on the lightest and darkest ends of the spectrum. Uncharted 4 and The Last of Us Remastered use color in distinctive ways and each highlight the numerous benefits of HDR. Whereas Uncharted 4’s exotic locales leverage a brighter, more painterly composition to highlight HDR’s full breadth of colors, nature’s reclamation of towns and cities in The Last of Us Remastered necessitates a more organic and gritty approach that complements HDR’s deeper, richer black tones. Best of all, HDR support is available on the standard PS4, as well as PS4 Pro. 4K Photo Mode and 1080p Gameplay ClipsThe Uncharted 4 and The Last of Us Remastered communities have already been able to produce some awe-inspiring images with our built-in Photo Mode tools on PS4. Now, with the PS4 Pro, we expect to see even more stellar creations as players will be able to capture 4K screenshots using the system’s Share functionality. You can also use the Share button on PS4 Pro to stream at up to 1080p at 60 frames per second, or capture in-game highlights at 1080p at 30 frames per second. We hope you’ll share your Photo Mode shots and best gameplay moments with us using our submission tool on naughtydog.com/ugc! We are really proud of the experiences we’ve been able to create for PS4 and now bring to PS4 Pro. We believe that the addition of HDR and 4K technology not only adds a new level of depth, detail, and life to our games, but opens new doors for the future. We hope you enjoy Uncharted 4 and The Last of Us Remastered on PS4 Pro! The game is free and offers intense, online multiplayer with 15 vs 15 matches, and now is the time to jump in the game because it supports PS4 Pro! It’s been nearly a year since we launched on PS4 and we are thrilled by the response we’ve received from this community. Over the past year we have added regular monthly updates including dozens of new features, maps, player requests, four new nations, and more than 200 new tanks. We are constantly improving and updating the game to bring you the ultimate tanking experience — and we won’t stop there. World of Tanks was built initially to support future hardware platforms, so we are really excited for tankers to play World of Tanks on PS4 Pro. With increased resolution, support for High Dynamic Range (HDR) output, and smoother frame rates, tanks will look more realistic and vibrant, playing better than ever before. While the game already looks fantastic on PS4, it’s jaw dropping on PS4 Pro. We’re rendering each frame at 3200 x 1800 resolution and the PS4 Pro does a high quality upscale from that to 4K which is 3840×2160 pixels. Tank and terrain textures are stunningly detailed, even up close. The already lush vegetation looks fuller and more natural on PS4 Pro due to the higher quality anti-aliasing. There’s no question you’re going to want to play this on an HDR-enabled TV with your PS4 Pro. World of Tanks has always done its lighting in HDR and tone mapped the results. Now you’ll be able to see the true output of this lighting. HDR allows for a wider and more dynamic range of lighting and colors. You’ll see more detail in our HDR skies and physically-based lighting, particularly in levels like Siegfried Line War and Hills. The vibrant colors of the vegetation in the Karelia swamps are more intense and lifelike, and the water looks cool, blue, and inviting in its richness. Wargaming is always dedicated to being at the forefront of new gaming technology, and the PS4 Pro is the perfect example of how we are bringing our games to as many platforms and players as possible. The team here at Wargaming is excited to add PS4 Pro support to World of Tanks and can’t wait to see what the future holds. See you on the battlefield. View the full article

A new Sharefactory update is rolling out today with new features that will make Sharefactory more than just a video editor. With Sharefactory update 2.0, you can create animated GIFs, photo collages, and more. Also, with the launch of PS4 Pro just around the corner, Sharefactory will also fully support the system with this new update. We’re excited about the new animated GIF feature, which can be easily shared to Twitter right from your console via Sharefactory. Using content from your Capture Gallery or your existing Sharefactory projects, you can create looping animated GIFs up to 10 seconds long. Sharefactory is currently the only way to create and share animated GIFs on PS4. The new update also adds Photo Mode — a great way to show off some of your best Trophy and gaming moments. You can easily create custom photo collages with up to six photos. You can also utilize most of the existing filters and effects from Sharefactory to add to your photos. Additionally, Sharefactory’s 2.0 update will support PS4 Pro’s high resolution content so you can create, personalize, and share your 1080p videos and 4K screenshots with the world, straight from your Capture Gallery. Other features in this update include: Projects now export up to 20% faster Pan & Zoom on your gameplay videos New Sharefactory troll stickers New font for “Internet meme†Split clip feature can now be utilized on Track 2 Refreshed UI Since the initial launch of Sharefactory, we’ve been working hard to add new features to enhance the sharing experience on PS4, such as the ability to import your own music tracks, add audio and video commentary with green screen effects, export up to 60 minute videos, and more. We appreciate the feedback we received from fans and we will continue to work hard to make more enhancements to Sharefactory. We’re excited to see the new content created by our PlayStation fans with the features of this new update. As always, let us know what you think. Have fun with 2.0! View the full article

Finally! We at Good Mood Creators are thrilled to announce Mekazoo’s launch on PS4 this November 15! I feel like I’ve written that fifty different ways over the past two years since we first announced Mekazoo back in 2014, and it’s with huge excitement (and relief) that we can bring our crazy neon creation to your PlayStation 4. So, what is Mekazoo? Well, I’m glad you asked. Mekazoo is a side-scrolling platformer (with optional local co-op) built within a vibrant, neon, 3D world. You’ll unlock five playable animals, all with their own unique abilities: Armadillo, Frog, Wallaby, Panda, and Pelican. In order to overcome the daunting and — at times — perilous worlds you’ll encounter, you can switch between pairs of these Mekanimals on the fly. The story of Mekazoo starts when you wake up as the Armadillo and notice all your friends are missing and have been turned into enormous evil bosses. Set out on a mission to save them and turn them back to their nice, cute, mechanical selves (i.e. unlocking new playable characters)! With the Armadillo, you can curl up in a ball and boost around the terrain, the Frog can use its tongue as a grappling hook to swing on interactables and enemies, the Wallaby perpetually bounces and can super jump through breakables, the Panda is a very strong, slow, tank-like character and can climb, swipe and butt-smash through walls, and the Pelican gracefully glides through the skies. Together, these Mekanimals form a powerful team and, when used as pairs, can be used to achieve their full potential. So why a platformer? Mekazoo is our first game, born out of a class project and a close group of friends from DigiPen Institute of Technology in Seattle. We wanted to create a game that we’d actively search for as gamers ourselves. We’re all 80’s and 90’s kids who grew up attached to our old consoles and we set out to create our dream platformer. We envisioned a game that you can pick up and play for 20 minutes or two hours. A game you can play with your friends or kids, on your own couch, passing the controller in single player or in local co-op. The local co-op in particular will offer immense fun to players as it requires a hive-mind system. Only one Mekanimal can be controlled at a time; therefore, each player must switch control back and forth in order to select the appropriate character for the task ahead. Between single player and multiplayer, we aimed to create a game that’s just fun. We’ve created a fast and flowy experience that harkens back to those platformers we grew up with and loved, while trying to put our own unique spin on the genre to update it for today’s gamers. Mekazoo is loaded with replayability, and after completing the adventure (which takes 10-15 hours for the average player) you can go back through and explore the world with different Mekanimal pairs, and discover more of the world’s hidden secrets. Use these rewards to unlock secret levels, as well as new costumes for your synthetic animal friends. If you’re looking for a unique challenge, our two player co-op experience will put you and a friend to the test, making you truly work as one to progress. For the thrill seekers out there, Mekazoo’s levels are all about fast flowing play, so find your rhythm, zip through the levels, and continue to top your personal records. We wanted Mekazoo to be a world you can fully get lost in, outside of the immersive visuals, so we knew we needed to nail the soundtrack (I mean really, it’s one of the best parts of any game). Our in-house music director created a new track for every single level as well as each of Mekazoo’s five different worlds, creating a distinct musical styling that, like the game, has influences steeped in all the games we grew up playing — but stays distinctively modern. It’s been four years in the making, but Mekazoo is finally here! Get Mekazoo on your PS4 and come boost, swing, bounce, climb, and fly with us on November 15! View the full article

We have some new updates about PlayStation Vue to share with you today. First, we’re happy to announce the addition of new channels to PlayStation Vue, including BBC America and NBA TV launching tomorrow, as well as VICE and more local broadcast stations from CBS and Fox coming soon. Additionally, starting at 12:01am Eastern Time on November 11, all Viacom-owned networks will no longer be available on PlayStation Vue. This includes channels such as Comedy Central, Spike, and MTV. At PlayStation, we always strive to provide the best value and service for our fans. As part of our ongoing evaluation of the PlayStation Vue offering, we have determined that removing the bundle of channels from Viacom is the best way for us to continue to offer the most compelling value to our fans. It’s been quite a busy year for us since launching ESPN, ABC and other Disney-owned networks; we have expanded the service nationwide, added highly requested channels such as NFL Network and HBO, and introduced new PS Vue enabled devices such as Roku, Android TV and web support for PC and Mac. As demonstrated by the new channels announced today, we will continue to expand the PlayStation Vue service by adding devices and networks that are highly requested by our fans. PlayStation Vue subscribers will continue to enjoy the popular features that make the service unique, such as simultaneous streaming and cloud-based DVR. We are continuing to add value and flexibility with multiple plan options to choose from, as well as a la carte options such as recent additions of HBO and Cinemax. Remember that there is no long-term commitment required for any PlayStation Vue plan. You can visit www.psvue.com for more information. We want to thank all of you for your continued support, and we look forward to all that’s ahead. View the full article

Eagle Flight was made from the ground-up for VR. Our team started with a prototype phase focused primarily on comfort and reactivity. This is where we discovered that flying was one of the most exciting ways to experience high-speed movement in VR. We created a brand new system of flying controls, using only the orientation of your head to create an amazingly smooth and reactive sensation of flight. From there, we were sure of one thing: this wasn’t a plane or a spaceship game… we needed something more natural. This was an eagle’s game and the first of its kind. Eagle Flight allows you to experience the life of a bald eagle, in Paris during a time when the city was abandoned by humans and where Nature has taken over. In this city full of life, you will have to protect your territory, conquer new heights, hunt for food and fight with scavengers to protect your nest. Developing on a new technology is always extremely exciting. With VR, we knew that the precision and the reactivity of the headset and its tracking would open new ways to play and interact. We knew that the revolution wouldn’t come from the pad, but from the headset itself. We weren’t wrong. Our Game Director Olivier Palmieri took the lead of the prototyping phase of the game and with his team explored every parameter to see how we could take advantage of this new way of playing. By reducing inertia and allowing the player to use even the most subtle head movement to control the eagle, we created a set of controls like never before. Our VR flight controls are as natural as looking in the direction you want to fly. In just a few minutes, anybody can become an expert flyer! We focused our multiplayer experience on one game mode: Capture the Prey. Using the classic rules of capture the flag, two teams (up to three players per team) have to fight to capture prey in the middle of the game and bring it back to their nest first. Using your screech wave attack may seem difficult at first. You’ll need to plan where your target will be in order to aim correctly. That’s where your navigation skills can rebalance the match. I always try to get as close as possible to my prey before shooting. That’s also the whole thrill of the pursuit in the streets of Paris — it’s an incredible sensation. My advice: tail your target as close as you can and wait for the perfect moment to use your screech wave. It’s one shot, one kill. Missing is not an option. Since the beginning of the project, when working on our multiplayer match design, the game designers wanted to make sure that all the abilities available were well balanced. Due to this balance, every attack or protection must come with a price. Your screech wave can kill a target with only a hit, and your shield ability can create barriers to attack. However, it takes a long time to recharge both of these. Timing is crucial in Eagle Flight, and with the fast action in game, it can make all the difference. We’ve had so much fun working on Eagle Flight and can’t wait to see you all take to the skies! View the full article

We have liftoff! Today marks the arrival of Robinson: The Journey on PlayStation VR, and after a lot of hard work for an amazing new platform, we’re very excited to be able to share the launch trailer with you. We first announced Robinson back in June 2015, and since then we’ve been obsessed with delivering on our promise of a game that offered an “unparalleled sense of presence†in a virtual world. Our inspiration for Robinson grew from themes that captured our imaginations as kids: science fiction, fantastical journeys, and, of course, dinosaurs. Stepping into the shoes of Robin — a young boy who is stranded on the mysterious planet of Tyson III — you’ll discover how PS VR has the power to bring all those elements to life in an entirely new way. In your quest to discover the fate of your missing crewmates, you’ll come face to face with fantastical creatures, collaborate with two starkly contrasting allies, and uncover a world bursting with detail and lore. Like all good journeys, Robinson also packs an emotional punch — placing you at the center of a story that will draw you deeper into the game world and — we hope — live long in your memory. It’s always a special moment for developers to reach launch day. Partly because the hard work is done, but mainly because it’s the day we get to share the game with the people we’ve been making it for all along. The journey starts here. Over to you. Root Letter is a unique game in terms of atmosphere and people have always asked: “What was the inspiration for it?†Root Letter is a very personal project for us. Character designer Minoboshi Taro and I share a passion for Japanese teen movies from the seventies. We always wanted to work on something inspired by those feelings. Things like first loves and memories from our time at school. The Kadokawa Group has always had a wealth of mystery series, either as books or movies, so we thought we should work on a videogame with similar themes too, following Kadokawa’s established tradition. One of the main things we wanted to do was create a setting that was different, to show a side of Japan people don’t often see. Shimane is interesting in that there are not many cities where the mountains meet the sea. One such place is the town of Matsue. We also wanted to set the game in a little town, far away from a big metropolis like Tokyo. There is a good reason for this. In a small town, more than in big cities, people grow up and live their entire lives maintaining the same relationships. This game is about how those relationships evolve, while exploring one of humanity’s most enduring personal questions: “What if I made different choices in the past?†One of the embodiments of this feeling — of nostalgia, and the permanence of the past — is the letter. A means of communication that’s not often used anymore, but in our youth they were very personal things. They are the perfect means to explore the past of a person — but they can also be very misleading personal artifacts, especially when telling a story or recounting the past. Also, letters gave the reader a big sense of expectation, especially in pen-pal relations. I think this is something everyone can relate to. I guess the modern day equivalent is the feeling you get when you eventually meet an online friend in person. This is just one of the themes we wanted to explore. Relationships, and how human beings grow emotionally, are complicated processes, so obviously there are lots of nuances in the life of a person. When you are young, you have dreams and expectations that are not always met by reality. Somehow, through letters, we capture a moment in the life of the main characters. And then, like in a time capsule, we have them living it again through player investigations — and, of course, the various reactions are not always pleasant. Ultimately though, we wanted to have a game that felt truly grounded in reality. We wanted the player to feel they grew to know someone for better or worse, but also to feel that they had come to know a location and its citizens very well. We worked extremely closely with the authorities in Shimane Prefecture, for example. We went searching for locations and, during the process, we asked the people we met to be in the game. They also helped us to find more interesting places, they checked the script to add some color with local dialect and expression — everything happened very naturally. We are really looking forward to seeing players’ feedback on Root Letter, especially as it is rooted in Japanese culture. But we are also sure that the themes in the game — like nostalgia and youth — are universal. So I am sure that, on a certain level, there will be a connection that transcends cultural differences! We hope that western gamers can enjoy a journey in the life of a normal Japanese person and experience some thrill with the story — and perhaps a desire to come to Japan and visit Shimane prefecture! As you know, Root Letter is the first in the Kadokawa Mystery Game series. We already have a few ideas for the sequel. We had three locations in Japan as possible settings. For the first game, Root Letter, we chose Shimane. The next title could be very different, but the Kadokawa Game Mystery series will be always connected by three elements: the digital actresses, a location with an amazing history and, obviously, an interesting story driven by a great mystery! I very much hope you all enjoy Root Letter and thank you kindly for all your support! View the full article
