  1. Greetings, earthlings… or some other greeting that has an out-of-this-world feel! Arthur Parsons here, from TT Games working on LEGO Dimensions to deliver a message of importance — direct from Krypton! It is with superhuman excitement that the team here at TT Games, as well co-Game Director Jimmy McLoughlin and I, announce the arrival of Supergirl in LEGO Dimensions. Superman’s cousin is arriving as an exclusive available with LEGO Dimensions PS4 Starter Packs starting this September. Not only will that mean you can get a collectable Supergirl LEGO minifigure, you’ll also be able to play as Kara Zor-El, with all of the incredible powers that you would associate with her — like flight, superhuman strength, x-ray powers, and beam attacks. But that’s not all. What we’re most excited about is her ability to use her Red Lantern ring and transform. While in her Red Lantern form, she can fire red energy bolts and beams from her ring, and use Lantern Constructs — an ability unique to her. The arrival of Supergirl, in addition to being able to choose from 16 amazing new brands that are coming to LEGO Dimensions, should hopefully have you all as excited to play the game as the team here at TT Games is making it. So many amazing entertainment franchises are coming, including Adventure Time, Harry Potter, Ghostbusters, The Goonies, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Gremlins, The A-Team, Sonic the Hedgehog, and much, much more. All of this is in addition to the Starter Pack and first year content. All of the various brands and toys are completely compatible with each other — you just need the one Starter Pack to be able to begin your incredible adventure. For those of you that are already playing the adrenaline thrill ride that is LEGO Dimensions, Supergirl will be available next year with the “Hire-a-Hero†feature in the game. For now, we need to get back into the office and get the fantastic new content ready for you all. View the full article
  2. Hi readers! Jan from Deck 13 here. We’re currently working away on our new game The Surge, a visceral sci-fi action RPG on PS4 with a few mechanical twists. Today we’re talking combat mechanics and crafting integral to the core gameplay experience. Fitted with an advanced CREO exo-suit, balancing your core power against your implants and exo-suit upgrades will allow you to specialize in a huge variety of combat styles, thanks to the almost limitless combinations of exo-suit add-ons and dozens of make-shift weapons salvaged from the industrial complex at CREO. Finely tune your gear to match your playstyle, and to best suit the challenge ahead. What’s more, the Metroidvanian levels open up as your core power increases, allowing you to over-charge doors previously too strong for your suit to damage, opening new pathways to explore. The CREO facility is vast, and if you want to find and craft the best equipment and weapons, you’ll need to explore every area for secrets and hidden items. The Surge features innovative combat mechanics, allowing you to target individual limbs, dismembering the exo-suit add-on, or weapon, that you want to acquire. Collecting tech-scrap and blueprints, you’ll be able to return to the Operation Center to level up and craft new exo-suit add-ons and weapons salvaged throughout the level. These can even be acquired from the world’s gigantic, industrial bosses. Most of what you encounter in The Surge was never designed to kill you, and most of the items you loot and craft were never designed for combat, but the combined strength of the exo-suit and near-future technology of CREO turn anything from fork-lifting add-ons to laser cutters into lethal weapons and armor suitable for diving deeper into the CREO complex. We can’t wait to see what you think of The Surge when it launches next year on PS4. View the full article
  3. Greetings from Germany, PlayStation Nation. We’ve already embarked on a mission to gamescom to spread the word about the next great adventure in Destiny. Rise of Iron is rapidly approaching. The games begin on September 20th, and we can’t wait to see eager Guardians fight their way to the top of Felwinter Peak to set up a new base of operations. Whenever we launch new content, it’s a great time to welcome players back the game – and maybe even recruit some reinforcements for one of the finest communities in gaming. If you’ve missed out on any of the adventures that we’ve delivered to date, we’re excited to announce Destiny – The Collection. Think of it as a loot crate that will help you bounce back into the action. This bundle contains everything we’ve ever released into the world Destiny, including Rise of Iron. It even has a consumable that will boost your character to combat-ready status. If you’ve been playing Destiny on your PS3, this is also a great time to evolve your gear, along with your Guardian. Players who own Destiny: The Taken King can take advantage of a digital upgrade path on the PS4. Access the digital store on your new console, where you’ll find Destiny – The Collection on sale for $40. We hope you’ll continue with us on this journey, so we’re making it a little easier to keep up. It should be an exciting week. We’ll be in the PlayStation booth at gamescom, hosting some epic battles between guests of the convention. If you’re one of them, we’ll see you soon. If not, we’ll be waiting for you in the Plaguelands later on this fall. DeeJ, out. Rise of Iron: PlayStation-Exclusive Map, Quest and ShipJustin from PS.Blog here, with first details on Destiny: Rise of Iron’s PlayStation-exclusive content. When Rise of Iron launches later this fall, PlayStation Guardians will have the opportunity to get their hands on a PvP map, quest and ship not available anywhere else. Here’s a quick look: Quest line: Show of Strength“While you serve the Vanguard in the Plaguelands, I wonder if you’d be so kind as to help me understand the more brutal aspects of the Devil Splicers’ brand of worship.†– Tyra Karn Reward for Quest: Ship – Timeless TereshkovaYou are but the most recent entry in Cosmodrome’s long and legendary history. PvP map: IcarusLocation: Languid Sea, Mercury This Golden Age solar farm on Mercury has remained un-touched by the Vex for reasons unknown. The Vanguard has denied petitions from various weapon foundries to research it until the Warlock orders have finished their surveys first. An exemption has been granted to Lord Shaxx and his Crucible: the Guardians are free to utilize Icarus as a live-fire training zone. Icarus is a mid-sized PVP map compatible with any 6v6 game mode. The outer perimeter features a circular flow mixed with long sightlines and close-combat environments. The main chamber’s closing doors provide a fast, but dangerous, path through the center of the map. View the full article
  4. Wizardly greetings from Frozenbyte! We’ve got something new and magical coming to PS4 — a co-operative blast ’em up of magical mayhem called Nine Parchments! The game is about a group of drop-out wizard apprentices who decide to skip their training for a quick path to the Nine Parchments. The Nine Parchments are a set of spells that wizards normally practice for a year each, totaling at least nine years at the wizards’ equivalent of a university — the Astral Academy. As the wannabe wizards rapidly discover powerful new spells and ignore all safety aspects, it’s only natural that their hasty progress results in lots of unwanted deaths. Be prepared for some very chaotic spellcasting. Currently Nine Parchments is still in an early alpha version, and we’re aiming for a release sometime next year. To find out more, be sure to check out the Nine Parchments official website. View the full article
  5. Our beta for PS4’s upcoming 4.00 update, codenamed Shingen, rolls out soon for everyone included in the public beta program. If you signed up and were selected, be on the lookout for an email with instructions on how to download. Whether you’re in the beta or not, we wanted to give everyone a glimpse at some of the new aspects of this system software. We’re refreshing the system UI, adding tools for organization, updating the Quick Menu, and much more. UI RefreshWe’ve made a lot of adjustments and improvements to PS4’s main user interface. That includes some changes you may notice right away, like new system backgrounds and a revised What’s New tab, to smaller changes like updated popup notifications and redesigned system icons. As a whole, it all adds up to a more refined and easy to use UI. The overall look and feel of the UI remains the same — it just has a fresh coat of paint. Quick MenuAs you know, pressing and holding the PS button on your DualShock 4 brings up the Quick Menu. We’ve overhauled this menu to make it faster and easier to use. One big change is that the menu now only covers a portion of the screen, meaning you don’t need to leave gameplay entirely. We’ve added several new items to the Quick Menu, letting you quickly get info without having to back to the home screen. You can see the online status of your friends, and shortcuts to quickly access your Party, Favorite Groups, Communities, and more. You can also customize the Quick Menu, removing or adding items as you see fit. Share MenuWe’ve given a similar overhaul to the Share Menu, which appears once you press the Share button on your DualShock 4. Like the Quick Menu, it only covers a portion of the screen. It will save the last social network you shared video clips or screenshots to, making the process of sharing a screenshot or video a bit faster and more streamlined. You can also upload longer video clips to Twitter (was 10 seconds, now up to 140 seconds). Folders and Library OrganizationOne of the big requests we get is for more options to organize content on PS4. With this update, we’re adding functionality to create folders on PS4’s content launcher and Library. This will help collect your favorite games and select apps in one place for quick and easy access. We’re also making some pretty big changes to the Library. We’ve added a new tab called Purchased, which will show all of the content you own — games, applications, demos, and betas you’ve participated in. As a result, the Games and Applications tabs focus on content currently installed on your system. This should help de-clutter your library, and make it faster to find the content you’re looking for. There are some new sorting tools for your Library as well. You’ll be able to sort content by purchase date or install status, and search for specific games and apps via text input. Trophy ImprovementsThis update brings the ability to view the Trophy offline. You’ll see a new “offline mode†option if your system is unable to connect to the network, letting you view your entire Trophy collection without an Internet connection. We’ve also added a button that will let you view the content of a Hidden Trophy. The Trophy will still be hidden by default, but you can now choose to show the Trophy name and info. Lastly, we’re changing the icons that show how rare a Trophy is. Instead of four boxes that fill, the icon looks like a pyramid with the ultra-rare Trophies at the top. User ProfileWe’ve updated the look of the User Profile, making it easier to see relevant info for a player at-a-glance. For instance, you can now see your Trophy progress compared with another player right from their profile. You can also add a background image to your own profile — perhaps a screenshot you took in one of your favorite games. The update has even more features that won’t be available in the beta, so stay tuned for additional info on what to expect. We’ll be back with more info on 4.00, including its launch date, in the coming weeks. View the full article

  7. It gives us great pleasure to announce that Killing Floor 2 on PS4 will be launching globally on November 18! Lots of balls to juggle, all finally done, but that will cover release digitally across PSN, as well as in stores all over the world, working with Deep Silver and Iceberg Interactive. It’s been a while since we released a game in stores, so that’s really exciting for us! If you’re wondering what we’re excited about, then there’s a bunch of great videos you can go take a look at so you can get an idea of the game. We worked with Sony and put together a comprehensive PS4 Dev Diary a while back at PlayStation Experience in San Francisco which you can watch here. And at E3 a couple of months ago, we did a longer livestreamed piece with Sid Shuman on PlayStation Underground. It includes a pile of live gameplay video along with commentary from ourselves and Sid, so you can get a good idea of the game on PlayStation Underground. E3 was a great experience for us. We were on the show floor in Sony’s booth, with players getting their hands on the full co-op game experience for the first time on PS4. We had a great time chatting and playing with fans, as well as making some tweaks based on your feedback! There’s probably quite a few videos of that out there as well, if you want to go hunting for it. For those of you who will be attending PAX West in Seattle next month, look for news on playing the game in the near future. So with just three months to go until launch we’ll have lots more to show you and talk about as all the final pieces of the puzzle drop into place. Stay up-to-date with the latest Killing Floor 2 news and information on our website. View the full article
  8. Hi, I’m Laura from Reflections, one of only two artists who worked on Grow Up! BUD, our procedurally animated stumbling red robot, is back for a new adventure. After his mission to grow a giant Star Plant in Grow Home, he’s off to a new planet and heading for the moon in an acrobatic adventure to save MOM. BUD is a much-loved character, but we thought players might enjoy him even more if he had some cool new outfits! They’re not just a fashion statement — the abilities you get while wearing them are delightful. Equip the BUG suit and an army of swarming insects will follow you around. The aviator has a double speed boost glider — it’s crazy fast. And the others? They’re just waiting to be discovered. Complete the challenges dotted around the world by POD — BUD’s new best friend — and you can find out for yourself! BUD’s not alone with his new ensemble — his upgrades get a new look, too, and some of the abilities will change the way you explore the planet. The world of Grow Up is massive in comparison to Grow Home, so exploration and traversal are key to the core experience — the suits will help you get around in style. We needed lots of unique ideas for the visuals, so I drew from British culture. The BUG suit’s goggles are inspired by Dame Edna Everage’s famous spectacles, and the Aviator is a classic outfit from the 1920s. For one other surprise suit, I recalled a childhood memory of a scarecrow named Tatty Bogle. Though not all the ideas made it to the final game, we had loads of fun discussing over-the-top abilities that would have taken way too long to make playable! When designing the suits, I envisioned how childlike BUD is in his vocalisations and movement. I remembered my own happy experiences of having fun in the garden, digging around in the mud and playing with insects. At an early playtest, one player left a comment: “The BUG suit is going to be my son’s favourite.†That’s why I love making games. Nothing compares to seeing someone enjoying content you created. The suits add another layer of fun to a very exciting game and I hope people enjoy playing with them as much as I enjoyed creating them. Before Grow Up, I was an artist on Tom Clancy’s The Division — you can’t get a much bigger jump in terms of style and content. I had to adapt to a new art direction, from a dystopian and ruined New York to a bright, beautiful, triangulated world. Grow Home’s style was really appreciated by the community and I knew it would be a challenge to deliver an experience of the same artistic quality on a much bigger scale — the whole planet! The tiny team dynamic is totally different to working on AAA; it’s refreshing to be able to spin around on your chair and see the whole team. The transition meant I had much more ownership of many aspects of the game. Most of what you can see on screen I’ve played a big part in, but so has everyone else — and it was great to take the lead in the creation of BUD’s suits. I’ve hidden some secrets in Grow Up and although I know where they are, as soon as a player notices them, it’ll be like finding them all over again. There are even a couple of surprises my art director didn’t know about until the very end! So enjoy your planetary playground, make something beautiful with the plants, and see what you can find — whether you’re dressed as a bug, a pilot, or an adorable red robot! View the full article
  9. Hi everyone! Today I’d like to finally unveil some of the new features we have for Farming Simulator 17 — it’s been a long time coming! We’re happy to announce that we have included trains to transport your harvest, and pigs to raise. There’s a whole new set of exciting changes, improvements, and added features, so let’s get started. The transportation system in Farming Simulator is deeper, thanks to the inclusion of drivable trains. These heavy giants can carry huge amounts of cargo; from seeds to fresh goods — even the logs you cut down from woodcutting! We’ve even included tension belts to hold down and stabilize bales and logs during transport to ensure a fast and safe delivery. In addition, we’ve added animal trailers to the mix, allowing you to deliver the animals to and from your market. Speaking of animals, Farming Simulator 17 brings pigs to the roster! On the harvesting side, you also have sunflowers and other new crops to plant and harvest. Some of these crops require specialized equipment, like the Cage IH 9230. All of these features are available in our brand new North American map, Goldcrest Valley. You can check out some of the sights, and see some of the local brands and companies that you’ll be working with to improve your farm. This and so much more is coming to Farming Simulator 17! Boasting more than 250 unique vehicles and equipment across more than 75 brands, this is the agricultural sim’s largest variety yet. Farming Simulator 17 arrives October 25 on PS4! 11. Hello and welcome everyone, I’m Bartek, half of a mini indie studio called Lichthund. We’re here to announce that our game, Lichtspeer, will be available on PS4 and PS Vita in the coming weeks. The titular Lichtspeer is an object of tremendous power bestowed upon the player by the mighty Lichtgods. Think of it as a lightsaber turned into a spear. Your objective? Survive with style and expand your powers to fight for the glory and amusement of the almighty gods. With Lichtspeer’s one-of-a-kind theme, we’re hoping to celebrate the wonderful mix of germanic culture. Nordic mythology? Check. German adjectives? We have those. Penguin Vikings? Yup, they’re here. Great electronic music? Definitely. The campaign in Lichtspeer will take you from mountain forests through ancient deserts and ruins of futuristic cities, battling gargantuan bosses (each with its own set of challenges) and hordes of their underlings: Elegant Wurst Zombies, Evil Spacedwarfs, Skater Walruses, Mechaturtles, to name a few. And I really mean a few. Hopefully most of them will bring a smile to your face before murdering you in cold blood, and oh, they will murder you — Lichtspeer is not an easy game. The throwing mechanic might seem simple at first, but with the speed of the game, the number of different enemies, and ever-changing level design, you will be cursing a lot. That being said, we put extra effort into making Lichtspeer hard, but not frustrating — making your progress satisfying and fun. For all the enemies you kill you’ll get points which you will be able to spend between missions to make your hero more powerful. Turn your spear into a giant hammer, summon a protective wall, or kill off all your enemies with a literal rain of spears. Sounds pretty fun, right? Did I mention we also have a Rage Quit Mode in case you enjoy crying while playing games? There’s also a New Game Plus mode in case you wanted to get back to that very first flying enemy that always killed you and unleash all your powers on him. All this action and mayhem will be accompanied by a fantastic soundtrack from Marcin Sonnenberg — an extremely talented Polish producer. Anyway, we’re really psyched that Lichtspeer is coming to PS4 and PS Vita — if you had any questions about the game please type them in the comments or just reach out to us on our Facebook or Twitter. Thanks for your attention! View the full article
  12. Titanfall 2 may technically be Respawn’s first foray into a story-based campaign, but the team’s pedigree inspires confidence, as did the first-hand look I was offered at Respawn’s HQ earlier this month. While there, I saw excerpts from Titanfall 2’s single-player campaign before playing a few hours of its multiplayer (more on that soon). Titanfall 2’s story puts players in the boots of Jack Cooper, a Militia rifleman who dreams of piloting his own Titan. At the beginning of Titanfall 2’s story, Jack realizes this dream — under less-than-ideal circumstances. After their first encounter, players set out to locate a power source for an incapacitated BT-7274 (“BT,†for short). After finding and installing it, the pilot and machine form a neuro-link, at which point Jack is able to take control of BT and the game kicks off in earnest. One might assume that a game featuring pilots controlling giant mechs would spend most of its time putting players in the cockpit, but Respawn is taking care to balance the campaign’s time between pilot combat, Titan combat, and more environmental mobility-focused sequences. One stretch of our demo saw Jack using a combination of jet pack boosts and wall-running techniques to navigate a chasm that would have been impossible for BT to pass. Sometimes the best solution is the simplest one, though — at one point, Jack and BT encounter a dead end, with more structures dozens (maybe hundreds?) of feet away. BT suggests that the only way forward is a throw, to which Jack replies… well, he replies one of two ways, depending on the player’s choice. Yep, Titanfall 2 features multiple dialogue options, though based on what I saw it doesn’t seem to be as central to the experience as something you’d find in, say, Mass Effect or a Telltale game. The few open-ended moments I saw each gave Jack two response choices, mapped to either up or down on DualShock 4’s D-pad. But back to the throw! BT suggests that Jack climb into his hand to be tossed across this massive abyss, a maneuver that BT pegs at a 64% chance of success. The person driving our demo chose the response “What about the other 36%?!†which was met with a comically dry assessment of the catastrophic results of a hypothetical missed throw. More personal moments like this punctuate the action-packed, explosive sequences that players might expect to make up the bulk of Titanfall 2. After the event at Respawn HQ ended, I sat down with Chris “Soupy†Dionne, single-player designer on Titanfall 2, to chat about how the team is adapting a heretofore primarily multiplayer experience into a fully fledged single-player campaign. The story focuses on Jack and BT, but they’re not the only personalities on display in Titanfall 2. At one point, when searching for a comms beacon that’s crucial to their mission, our heroes come across an occupied enemy base and can listen into their radio chatter. “Get to the beacon, now!†orders a particularly animated character with a striking Austrian accent. Our demo ends after we fight our way to him (and his Titan, of course) and he opens the cockpit for an overconfident, face-to-face pre-battle taunt. Titanfall 2 launches on PlayStation 4 October 28, 2016. What I saw here was but a brief glimpse of its story, but it’s clear that Respawn is making its debut single-player campaign one to keep an eye on. Hang on, BT, I’m on my way! View the full article
  13. The water supply has been poisoned and those affected have six hours to live, during which they will hallucinate as they die. You and your brother must choose how to spend what could be the last six hours of your life — do you stay home and try to help your friends, or strike out alone on a desperate search for the cure? One Way Trip began its life as a combination cover-shooter-tactical-rhythm-battle game and deeply-branching interactive story game; two separate halves, linked only by a shared setting and characters. The longer we worked on these two games, though, the more we realized that they had even less in common than we’d initially anticipated, so when it turned out that the story game would be done months ahead of the largely battling/survival game, we decided that it really just made more sense to split them up and release them separately. So we still have an awesome rhythm cover shooter coming for you in early 2017, but for now, we are super excited to be able to announce that One Way Trip, the introspective exploration of mortality and consciousness where your fate hinges on your choices, will be launching exclusively on PS4 August 30. Do you ever catch yourself playing a shooter and right as you’re blowing up a food cart something in the furrow of the hot dog vendor’s eyebrows makes you wish you could just put away your weapons and talk it out instead? Certainly there must be some other option! This is a game about that other option. One of the saddest things about getting older is realizing that pretty much everyone above a certain age has somebody that they miss. Somebody that they would give up everything they owned to see again, even just once. The longer you live, the more of those you accumulate, until eventually, your own body ceases to function and you become that hole in someone else’s life. One Way Trip is about what happens when a whole society faces this truth head-on at once; it’s a game where every character you meet is either dying or grieving, and just still freshly processing that. What would a superhero movie be like if it acknowledged the reality that humans are weird spongy pink animals full of organs and bile and snot, and that they kind of have to use the bathroom sometimes, too? At one point in development, we had a whole system of algorithms and variables so that you could choose what the main character ate, and it would affect the health/ease of that character’s waste elimination; while we ended up removing the food/waste management elements to boost the pacing, the same spirit and drive that pushed us to initially have included them colors every aspect that remains. We wanted to make a game that felt human in character, that felt like having a real conversation with a person — a game for those moments when you’re tired of feeling like an intricately-detailed puppet with clumsy hands that only shoot and punch. We wanted to make a game where you might tell someone else who’s finished the game about your favorite part just to have them respond, “What? That never happened to me when I played it!†And most of all, we wanted to make a game that you remember sometimes long after you play it, that makes you think on a deeper level about your life, and how you are spending your life. Because while most of us have way more than six hours left, we are all still dying in real life, at different speeds, and eventually, we are all going to have to face and accept that. 14. Hi everybody! My name is Konrad Tomaszkiewicz and I’m a Game Director at CD Projekt Red, here to tell you more about The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Complete Edition, coming to PS4 on August 30. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, both of its expansion packs, and all the additional content we’ve released for the game are the result of five years of hard work that everyone at CD Projekt Red has put into creating a fitting conclusion to the story of monster hunter Geralt. Geralt is a character that has become near and dear to our hearts, and the hearts of millions of gamers around the world. Having earned more than 800 awards, including more than 250 Game of the Year awards, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is the most awarded game of 2015. We’re proud of that, and humbled by the game’s reception. But even though The Witcher 3 has been out for some time now, there are still players who haven’t played it yet, or have been waiting for a single package… and that moment has come. The Complete Edition houses all three chapters of Geralt’s final adventure. You will track down the child of prophecy across a war-torn world in the original Wild Hunt, face off against a seemingly immortal bandit leader in Hearts of Stone, and, in Blood & Wine, travel to the beautiful land of Toussaint only to discover the not-so-pretty secret it hides. Put together, it’s 150 hours of open-world adventure full of action, exploration, difficult choices, and brutal consequences that will shape the world and hundreds of characters within it. Alongside new storylines, the two expansions make sure there’s more of everything in the game. The highlight is a brand new region and new areas to explore, expanding the world by more than a third. With a bigger world come new side-quests to engage in, enemies to defeat, and points of interest to discover, hiding powerful equipment. There are also new features expanding character progression, with Runewords and Mutations allowing players to alter their abilities to great effect, both in combat, as well as outside of it. All of the free DLC packs we’ve released since launch to thank players for their support now come already packed with the Complete Edition of the game. These include new weapons and armor hidden in the world, a New Game+ mode that will further challenge your monster hunting skills, even more Gwent cards, and additional outfits for Geralt’s companions — among others. And they’re all immediately accessible as players traverse the lands of The Continent. After launch, we took a lot of time to improve the game significantly, and many of these improvements came from player feedback. One such improvement, and a major one at that, now available from the moment you start your adventure in the Complete Edition, is a new user interface. Switching between signs and items during combat is now faster and more intuitive. A new inventory grouping system let’s you find what you’re looking for quicker. And because there are so many things to see and do in the world of The Witcher 3, the map now provides players with more markers and filter types to better plan their adventure. Featuring three massive adventures in one package, a huge open-world that is now bigger than ever, more of absolutely everything the game offers, every piece of downloadable content, and all updates and improvements ever released, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Complete Edition truly offers the ultimate Witcher 3 experience. Before I sign off, however, I wanted to thank the amazing community that gathered around our game and supported us over the years in our efforts to create the best RPG. For that and so much more, from everyone at CD Projekt Red — thank you! View the full article
  15. The Huntsman: Winter’s War gave moviegoers a glimpse of a fantastical world with great promise of epic tales. Now, you can embark on your own unique journey within the expanded universe of The Huntsman: Winter’s Curse on PS4. With gameplay inspired by the time-honored adventure and RPG genres, The Huntsman: Winter’s Curse follows Elisabeth, a courageous young woman trying to uncover the whereabouts of her missing brothers in this surreal, animated world. As you guide Elisabeth in her search, she will come across a multitude of fascinating creatures and characters, some of whom will aid in her journey. However, one should always be cautious of strangers; you never know when someone might have ulterior motives. Elisabeth and her companions must risk confrontation with Queen Freya’s soldiers, bandits, rabid beasts, Goblins, Wisps, and yet-to-be-seen entities. While Elisabeth’s cunning will often allow her to outwit the enemy, she will not always be able to avoid combat. Sometimes she must engage in battle, players will choose from card-based abilities, granted from equipment, to perform attacks against their foes in turn-based active-time fights. During the journey, Elisabeth and her party will obtain equipment in the form of weapons and armor that confer specific abilities to the wearer in the form of cards. Using these, players can customize the party members to form unique combinations of abilities to help overcome even the toughest challenges. You never know who, or what, Elisabeth will come across in her adventure, so it is always wise to be vigilant and inquisitive. As a small, independent developer, it was an honor to be approached by NBCUniversal and have the opportunity to work with a licensed property of The Huntsman: Winter’s War’s caliber. From the beginning, we knew this would be a massive undertaking for our small Tucson studio. We set out to engage players with not only great gameplay, but also a gripping story, and unique artistic style. We searched for a skilled writer who could combine the adventurous nature of the film and also expand upon the universe. We found that person in our own backyard, with local Tucson writer Janni Lee Simner. With Janni, our artistic lead, Darcie Banfield, and game designer Derek Chin — the vision of what this game would eventually become took shape. But it was thanks to the tireless efforts of our programmers and artist Abigail Larson’s wonderful talents that this world and its characters were brought to life. Even with industry veterans on our development team, we were all-hands-on-deck to make a game based on a major motion picture. There were countless sleepless nights during its development, but everyone on our team came out of this experience having learned a ton and extremely proud of our work. It is our great pleasure to bring this labor of love to PlayStation players. All five books of The Huntsman: Winter’s Curse first season will release simultaneously on August 16 on PS4. 16. After years in development, Rive is launching September 13 on PS4. It’s taken us quite a long time to get to this point — about three times longer than we expected. As a gamer you’ve probably experienced your fair share of game delays, but it’s usually for the best. With this blog I want to give you an idea of why that can happen. Finished games are the final expression of a vision that start out as rough, disconnected ideas from a group of people wanting to make something special. When you get your hands on a game, you see a product that’s gone through an enormous amount of iterations. Sometimes it doesn’t even resemble the original idea that much. In our case, Rive started out as a 3D on-rails shooter with a time rewind mechanic and is now a 2D twin stick shooter / platformer where you can hack your enemies. How’s that for a switch! I strongly feel that the best way to develop creative games is to have an iterative process instead of designing everything on paper before you start. There are so many wrong assumptions you can make about what will be fun or not, that you’re better off starting with implementing one element and building on top of that. This way the game will emerge in front of you as development progresses and it will teach you which elements work and which don’t. It’s almost impossible to know how many iterations you need before something is truly good, which is the big downside to this approach and the main reason for our delay. As an example, I’ve taken screenshots of the same area in different times of development. Check it out. While they may look similar at first glance, it’s way more fun to shoot the robots when they are coming from a dropship, the colors are deeper, and the extra visual effects really add to the impact you feel when destroying your enemies. There is probably about a year of iterations between the two screens, which sounds crazy — even to me — if you think about it. You may argue that the earlier one would probably be fine as well, but we’re not going for “fine†with Rive. It has to be absolutely perfect, which has a special reason you may not have heard about yet… After sixteen years of making video games we have decided to stop, and focus on something else. Rive will be our final game, so it has to be our best game by a large margin. We are really taking our time to make Rive absolutely perfect, and perfection takes time. I’m really pleased with what we’ve created, and I can’t wait for you to finally get your hands on our last game! I hope you’ll enjoy Rive when it’s released next month, and do let me know on Twitter what you think! View the full article
  17. Welcome to Super Comboman on PS4. You play as Struggles. He and his little brother lost their parents when they were both young, and now it’s up to Struggles to support them by taking odd jobs through an emotion-draining corporation called DODOCO. Struggles doesn’t have any real skills, but he has a sweet mullet and a talking fanny pack. After years of studying the greatest comic character of all time, Super Comboman, Struggles has a curious idea of what “going to work†means. Instead of completing his tasks the right way, he ends up busting combos on everything in sight. Uppercuts and wall climbs abound, you’ll jiggle, juggle, and jab your way through your coworkers and bosses. We’re stoked to bring Super Comboman to PlayStation Store for the very first time. It’s packed with personality and gut-punching special moves — we can’t wait for all of you to experience Struggles and his super combo action. We’ve stuffed this game full of mega manga bosses and classic fighting moves. Be warned: there’s no mashing your way through this comic brawler, so stretch those fingers and bring your A game! Think Smash Bros. meets the Marvel vs. Capcom series as a platformer. The game pays homage to the super-rad, super-combo 2D fighting games of the past. Plus, you collect stickers throughout the game to unlock new moves and special attacks! At Interabang we are a band of developers and artists working on projects we love. The team is spread across Oakland, San Diego, Chicago, and Montreal, coming together thanks to wifi and a shared passion for games. The team, raised on classic side scrolling and fighting masterpieces, has been hard at work getting an extra crispy, combo-packed 2D action game ready for players. View the full article

  19. Hey everyone! I’m really excited to finally announce that Brutal is live today on PlayStation Store! Brutal is a modern re-imagining of the classic ASCII roguelike and dungeon crawler, with procedurally generated levels, weapon crafting, potion brewing, a level system, and also features permadeath as a key mechanic. If you missed our announcement trailer from PlayStation Experience, you can check it out here! The goal of Brutal is simple: reach level 26 and defeat the fearsome Dungeon Guardian. A simple objective, but difficult to achieve as you start with nothing but your bare fists and an unlit torch. In order to succeed you must fight, loot, and explore to learn new skills, craft new weapons, brew potions, and get stronger as you face off against an onslaught of ever more challenging enemies. While we do have permadeath as a key feature, we’ve changed it up a little. We’re gamers ourselves and understand it’s not always possible to dedicate hours at a time to a game, let alone a dungeon crawler that actively attempts to kill you. As such, you can save your progress in Brutal, pausing your run at any moment, allowing you to pick up where you left off at another time. In addition to this we’ve also added a reincarnation mechanic. The more you explore of Brutal, the more loot you will find. Loot is essentially your score. The more loot you collect, the better your score. However, you can exchange some of your score for the chance of an extra life by making an offering at a God Altar. Offer enough loot to please the gods and an extra life will be granted. However, offer too little and the gods will be angered, destroying their altar, and leaving you with your life, and progress, in peril. Maintaining an ASCII aesthetic throughout while also ensuring it made sense and was fun was essential to Brutal being a great game. I think the best example of how we achieved this comes with weapon crafting. In the game you will find ASCII letters scattered throughout our procedurally generated levels — these are in essence crafting materials, the building blocks of the world. These letters are used in conjunction with blueprints to create powerful weapons that you’ll use to survive. We have three tiers of weapon: bronze, silver, and legendary. Each needing a different set of letters to craft. Exploring levels will maximise your chances of finding additional ASCII letters and weapon blueprints. As well as the single-player experience we also have a two-player local multiplayer mode. We revealed more about this in an earlier PlayStation.Blog post. Finally, Brutal also features a level editor, allowing you to not only create your own dungeon levels, but also share them online so everyone from around the world can enjoy them. Even if you’re not into making levels yourself, this will allow you to play some fantastic, weird, and most likely whacky levels from the community. We’re equally excited and terrified… You can download Brutal today on PlayStation Store! Now, go kick some ASCII! 21. “What do you do in No Man’s Sky?†is a question that’s followed Hello Games’ ambitious space opus around ever since it was unveiled back in 2014. Truth is, it’s never been an easy proposition to explain; when there’s an entire galaxy to explore, how do you tell someone where to start? You might already know that the goal is to make your way to the center of a galaxy full of unique, procedurally-generated planets, but it’s what happens on the way there that’s a mystery. Now, with about five hours game time behind me, it’s becoming clear that there’s a lot to do. As millions of travelers prepare to make their way into this vast, unknown universe, here are a few things that will help get your journey underway… 1. Fix Your ShipYou’ll start No Man’s Sky in sight of your small starship and it won’t be in good shape, so making essential repairs, fuelling up, and taking your first tentative steps into space flight are job #1. Some milestones are laid out for you as you progress through the game — like locating a space station, repairing your ship’s Hyperdrive, and eventually travelling between star systems — but for the most part, you’re free to explore as you please. And before blasting off, there’s already a lot you can do on that first planet. 2. Collect Essential ElementsYour Exosuit’s scanner reveals valuable elements that are scattered across every planet. Plutonium fuels various parts of your ship and keeps your life support systems online, while iron keeps your shields powered up, protecting you from the hostile conditions on a planet’s surface — so you’ll want to stock up on those early. Combining elements lets you craft materials to fix your ship or enhance your Exosuit and Multi-Tool — while others fetch a high price on the galactic market. Inventory space is limited, but it pays to learn which elements are worth keeping hold of. 3. Meet the SentinelsAn early mining expedition introduces me to the sinister, ever-present Sentinels — a galactic police force of sorts, who silently patrol each planet to ensure order is maintained. They hover around, scanning the area I’ve been mining to check I haven’t been greedy before focusing on me with a large, techno-cyclops eye. Satisfied I’m not upsetting the galactic order (for now), they leave me alone. But it’s a chilling reminder that I’m being watched — and I certainly don’t feel ready to mess with them… yet. 4. Explore a PlanetWandering around even a small area of your first planet, you’ll encounter unique creatures, plant life, and minerals to scan, name, and upload to the Galactic Library (who, by the way, pay handsomely for discoveries) — as well as evidence of alien civilizations. Knowledge Stones teach you words from strange languages, which make trade negotiations with their native speakers easier and raise your standing with their cultures. There are also signs of less fortunate travellers. Smoking debris can be seen on the horizon and investigating these provides blueprints for new technology or improvements to your Exosuit, ship, or Multi-Tool. You’ll also stumble across abandoned signal scanners — beacons that, if you’ve got the elements needed to get them working, highlight points of interest like trading posts, downed ships, or transmission signals. Each of these could lead to rewards like valuable resources, a new Multi-Tool, or even a bigger, better ship. 5. Blast OffLeaving solid ground for the vastness of space is a mind-blowing experience — there are asteroids to blast through, colossal freighters to marvel at, and other pilots to dodge (or engage in a dogfight if you’re feeling brave). But it’s when you take a look at the galactic map for the first time that the overwhelming sense of scale takes over. Every star system is charted, each is home to a multitude of planets that are yours to discover, once you have a hyperdrive blueprint. It’s an exciting prospect that every pinprick of light can be explored, particularly when a path to the galaxy’s center begins to open up. A true sense of purpose takes over, and travelling onward to a space station to buy, sell, and craft the necessary parts becomes an important goal. 6. Make Some UpgradesThe role you play in the galaxy is very much defined by your gear. Your Exosuit, Starship, and Multi-Tool can be modified in countless ways and blueprints for new technologies and enhancements are common — but inventory space is limited, so giving some thought to the kind of traveller you want to be is wise when making upgrades. If exploration and discovery is your focus, adding extra range to your Multi-Tool’s scanner will make new species discovery a breeze, while enhancing your mining beam will help you become an efficient, wealthy trader. If a more aggressive approach is your thing, adding a Plasma Launcher or upgraded Photon Cannon to your vessel can aid a life of piracy and take down traders and Sentinels faster. 7. Cause Some TroubleIf you find the eyes of the Sentinels on you to be intimidating, or the lure of plundering space freighters gets too much, it’s easy to start a fight. A warning though: early-game aggression is likely to be over pretty quickly and the chances of you coming out on top are slim. With the right upgrades, you’ll stand more of a chance — at least against the first wave of Sentinels. Attaching a shotgun-esque attachment to my Multi-Tool let me take a few down, but revenge came swiftly as my wanted level increased, more Sentinels arrived and I was brought to justice. Equally, my attempts at interstellar piracy were short lived as Sentinel fighters were instantly scrambled in response to taking a shot at a cargo freighter. Of course, the thing with No Man’s Sky is that you don’t have to do any of this — there’s a lot more you could do in your first five hours, but equally you could spend all of that time and more on your first planet and still come nowhere close to getting bored. It all depends on how you want to play the game; in this relatively short time I feel like I know what I want to do with my game and have an idea of how to get there — but that might be entirely different to how you want to play. That’s what makes No Man’s Sky such a unique, intriguing prospect — and I can’t wait to spend many more hours in its universe. View the full article
  22. By now many of you have probably explored the galaxy far, far away that is LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens (if you haven’t, then what are you waiting for?!). One of the lingering questions I’m sure you’ve had is… what’s the deal with C-3PO’s red arm? Wait no longer. The Phantom Limb Level Pack let’s you experience these events, while collecting new characters and a cool vehicle along the way. This downloadable content is a free exclusive for PS4 and PS3 players! The Phantom Limb level continues the Trouble Over Taul story — one of the New Adventure levels featured in LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens set in the time leading up to the film — after C-3PO’s ship crashlands on the barren planet of Taul, inhabited by hostile alien creatures who seem to crave the taste of droids. Never fear though — C-3PO is in good company with an oddball cast of survivors. First up is PZ-99, a security droid whose prime directive is to protect all non-combat personnel. Teaming up with him is VL-44, another security droid, armed with an incinerator to destroy gold LEGO bricks and fend off the hostile creatures on the surface of Taul. There’s also CO-34, a construction droid able to do most of the heavy lifting for the group, MSE-Y, a repair droid, GNK-189, a power droid, and 2MED2, a medical droid. They’re all really fun to play as, each with their own charm and playstyle! Additionally, we have O-MR1, a First Order droid who has been captured and taken prisoner by the C-3PO led group of Resistance droids. He’s featured briefly in the Trouble Over Taul level within the New Adventure level alongside Captain Phasma, but he plays a pivotal role here and is a really interesting counterpart to C-3PO. Plus, he’s voiced by Simon Pegg, of whom I’m a massive fan! I hope you’re looking forward to playing through this exclusive level pack and finding out more about this interesting cast of characters. And as a reminder, the Droids Character Pack DLC is also currently available exclusively for PS4 and PS3 players so if you haven’t downloaded it yet, you should go grab that one, too. Enjoy! 23. Hey, PlayStation drivers! NASCAR Heat Evolution began with a mission: deliver the most intense NASCAR racing experience. Working alongside Monster Games, known for developing classic NASCAR games like the original NASCAR Heat and NASCAR: Dirt to Daytona, we pushed ourselves to find innovative ways to make our racing vision a reality. That meant extensive car tuning options, adaptive AI that adjusts to your skill level, in-depth Career and Championship modes to capture the exhilaration of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup, and a new Challenge mode for those who want to step into the cockpit of their favorite drivers and recreate real-life history. But the biggest thing we wanted to do to separate NASCAR Heat Evolution from any NASCAR title you’ve played before is in online competitive multiplayer. As the first official NASCAR game on PS4, we recognized we had the power to do things never before possible in a NASCAR game. So we committed to giving players the real deal: a full field of 40 racers in online multiplayer — 40 human players all going for the checkered flag in the same race. In previous NASCAR console games, each multiplayer game was hosted by a specific user, and that kind of peer-to-peer system could result in a number of issues — the host could leave, or have a poor connection, and that could negatively alter the entire race. We knew that system wouldn’t fly if we wanted to put 40 players together in NASCAR Heat Evolution. We built a new system where each online game’s data is hosted by a server. All race data comes from that server, so the entire race experience is no longer tied to any one player. There will be three different online lobbies available: No Rules, Normal, and Hosted. No Rules: If you’re a beginner just looking to learn, bump, and crash (or you just want to bump and crash), the No Rules lobby is for you. This is a great place to practice, try things out, or just have a good time with friends. Normal: For players who want to test their skills but are still looking for a good, clean, and friendly race. Hosted: This lobby is for people who are more serious about racing. Race hosts will have the option to decide which level of player can join the race session. For example, if the host only wants racers level 5 or higher, he or she can set that parameter when creating the session. In addition, hosts have the right to boot players from their game. Within each of these lobbies, players have the option of joining an existing session or creating their own. When creating your own race, you’ll be able to select the track, number of laps, fuel/tire wear, and max number of players. Once a race has been created, it will begin in 60 seconds whether the requested number of drivers have joined or not. Unfortunately, due to the resources required to balance 40 separate players in one race, caution flags will not be available in online multiplayer. It’s not an ideal situation, but we really believe in the new opportunities that multiplayer on this scale opens up. Pitting will still be available in online races depending on the race length and wear options selected. Finally, players have the option to create a private race and invite their friends. This feature is perfect for NASCAR Heat Evolution leagues that want to host weekly races. Multiplayer will only feature human drivers on the track, so if there are 24 human players in a session, you will see 24 cars on screen. Your starting position is determined by previous lap times at that track. Those with faster lap times will start closer to the front, helping to ensure that players of equal racing ability are placed near one another for a clean start. If a player quits a race for any reason, their car will disappear from the race, but everyone else can continue to compete for the checkered flag. Players who finish online multiplayer races will get Speed Points, as they do in offline racing. There are also a number of PlayStation Trophies up for grabs for those who compete online. Online or offline, we’re very excited for you to finally get your chance to play NASCAR Heat Evolution when it launches on September 13. See you on the track! View the full article
