Hi everyone. I’m really happy to let you know that Prison Architect is coming to PS4 on June 28! Not only that, it’s also available to pre-order today through select retailers and as a special offer we’re including the “All Day and a Night†DLC for free! If you’re familiar with our million-selling, BAFTA-winning title on PC, I hope this comes as good news! The team at Double Eleven has been working closely with its originators Introversion for close to a year to create what’s being regarded as one of the best adaptations of a strategy game to console — and we are all very proud of that! If you’re wondering what the game is all about, we like to describe Prison Architect as the world’s best lock ’em up. When setting out to create the PS4 edition of Prison Architect, we wanted to offer a toe-in-the-water experience for those who have never been big strategy gamers. You start with an empty plot of land and have to build a holding cell, while a bus load of prisoners slowly trundle toward the prison gate. Once the prisoners are safely in the holding cell the race is on to construct a cell block with a shower and canteen before the next bus arrives. Once the initial rush is over, the only limit is your imagination: workout rooms, libraries, solitary cells, and even death row — as we say: it’s your prison and your rules! Even if you’re new or have never been interested in strategy games but have an interest in exploring the world of incarceration, crime, and punishment from a hands-on perspective, Prison Architect is a great way to get stuck in. I can promise that you’ll never look at [insert name of your favorite Prison drama] the same way after playing. When your prison is built you can go online with World of Wardens to share it with the PlayStation community as well as browse and play prisons created by other Architects. Prison Architect also includes a fully-fledged story mode that unravels a tale of jealousy, defeat, murder, deception, embezzlement, lies, family, and betrayal. The All Day and a Night DLC contains eight new wardens, prison maps, and plots to expand your prison experience and play with how your prisons are run. Each Warden has a particular way in which they’d like to run a prison, so when hired expect some changes! Warden Rick Beresh, MD, may run experiments on your inmates; Warden El Cocinero will expose inmates to fine dining; prototype Warden W-800 will jack up your armed guards to handle even the toughest situations! The new prisons range from ultra-secure facilities with moats and fences to luxury prisons with elegant cells and everything in between. You can even land your prisoners on The Rock, the notorious prison that inspired Prison Architect. You can also build your penitentiary on exciting new plots, including an abandoned oil facility, the banks of a historic lake, an abandoned city block, and a desolate desert. Thanks for reading everyone, and if you have any questions just ask! View the full article

We’ve been quiet about Brutal co-op — quiet until now, that is! In Brutal, our modern re-imagining of the classic ASCII dungeon crawler, we’ve included a two-player local co-op mode so you and a friend can explore the depths of our ASCII dungeon. Share loot, level up, and fight together to survive as you descend to floor 26, where you face off against the fearsome Guardian of the Dungeon and attempt to claim his crown. As we’re making a retro-inspired game (especially with our art style), it felt right to include local co-op, as it really is a nostalgia trip for a lot of people — as well an incredible way to play a game with a friend. With this in mind we’ve introduced sy mechanics that ensure the core game is fun in co-op, while also adding a sense of collaboration and dread when one of you dies unexpectedly. Firstly, all the loot you find in Brutal is not shared, so that axe you find, or that health potion you grab, can only be used by one player. This makes the sharing of resources very important to successfully navigate all 26 dungeon floors. This can work in your favor, however, if Player One has a health potion and Player Two is low on health. You can hand this potion over, or in the heat of battle, you can actually throw this potion at your co-op partner, giving them health to carry on their epic fight to the death — just don’t miss! The last thing you want to do is accidentally heal the enemy your friend is fighting. We’d hate to be in the room if that happened! In addition to managing the items, weapons, food, and armor you and your partner are wearing, you also have to survive the onslaught of enemies together. You can employ any tactic you think is best here, for example having one player use the Warrior and get into the faces of your enemies while the second player goes as the Mage and uses his Staff to fire devastating magic energy from a distance. Just be careful the Warrior doesn’t die — the last thing the Mage wants is a pack of Orcs charging him. Our revive system is also something we think adds an element of strategy and excitement to the game. When a player dies, the other player has two options: revive them there and then, or move on and locate your dead friend’s corpse on the next floor. The situation will determine what you decide to do here. Reviving your friend gives them half of your health, so if you’re at 50 HP, you and your friend will now be at 25 HP each following the revival. You’ll be able to attack together now, but you’re now both very close to dying. Of course, if you don’t revive your friend until later you risk not having his axe (And my axe!) and assorted potions by your side should you come across an enemy that overpowers you. It’s a tough decision to make, so good luck! View the full article

In a game of strategy, the number of pieces on your board and the type of pieces you control can completely alter the outcome of a battle. In the careful balance of Grand Kingdom’s classes, that is especially true, and I’m happy to announce a few more pieces that you’ll be able to strategize with when Grand Kingdom launches on PS4 and PS Vita this June! Those of you who’ve been following Grand Kingdom closely will recognize these classes as paid DLC from the game’s Japanese release — welp, we’re giving them to you for free and including them in the regular game! That’s right, you’ll have access to all 17 classes listed on our game website as soon as you install the game or slip in your brand-new disc on June 21. Now, new characters are always cool, but how about some new game content as well? You bet your spoils of war! (That could be a saying, right?) We’ve also decided to include the four Great Nation campaigns that were DLC in Japan with the regular version of Grand Kingdom. Yup, that increases the game’s campaign content from 12 chapters following the exploits of The Guild, to a whopping 48 chapters of story delving into the far reaches of Resonail’s expansive lore and nations. In each Great Nation campaign, you’ll align yourself with a particular nation and dig deeper into that nation’s motivations and history. You’ll be introduced to brand new characters, discover the deeper ties that bind rulers to family and nation, and perhaps even discover something about yourself as you decide which nation tugs at your heart the most. These additional campaigns really flesh out each of the Great Nations of Resonail. While you’ll probably be jumping into Grand Kingdom’s Online War from day one, I found that in my endless quest to fill my mercenary purse by completing each Great Nation campaign, I discovered which nation I really connected with. After completing the campaigns, I decided that I’ll be exclusively supporting one particular nation in the Online War no matter who my friends are fighting for. I can’t wait to see whom all of you choose to support! And, as if that wasn’t enough good news, you can also pre-order the PS4 digital version of Grand Kingdom today on PlayStation Store to save 10% on the game, unlock an exclusive Theme, and snag yourself a few cool Charm Scrolls that will let you re-customize your mercenary units once they hit level 20. (Pro-tip: if you have a favorite mercenary troop after you finish the campaign, you can use the Charm Scrolls to make them match your favorite Great Nation and send them to war dressed properly!) Phew. That was a lot to get off my chest. If you aren’t sure what kind of strategy Grand Kingdom holds in store, be sure to hop over to the official website to learn more. I’ll see you when the war begins on June 21, dood! View the full article

Valkyria Chronicles Remastered is out today on PS4! It’s been eight years since Valkyria Chronicles originally launched on PS3, and for reasons lost to the annals of time, it’s never been available digitally on PlayStation Network. Meaning that there’s an entire generation of console gamers who haven’t yet experienced it! So, starting today, you can join up with Welkin, Alicia, and the rest of Squad 7 to liberate Gallia from the invading Empire. Taking place in the fictional yet strangely familiar continent of Europa, the small principality of Gallia lies directly between the Empire and the allied Federation who are clashing in the second Europan war. Gallia is rich in the precious mineral resource Ragnite, which does everything from heal the wounded to power the machines of war. The Empire being, well, evil, decides that they need the Ragnite and launches an invasion of Gallia to take it. Starting in the border town of Bruhl, the Empire happens to invade just as the game’s hero, Welkin Gunther, returns from university. Narrowly escaping Bruhl with his life, his sister Isara, Bruhl Town Watch Captain Alicia, and their father’s prototype tank Edelweiss (naturally), Welkin and company join up with the Gallian Militia to drive back the Empire as part of the rag-tag Squad 7! “But John,†you’re probably asking, “This game came out eight years ago! What makes it so great that I should play it now?†I’m glad you asked, hypothetical reader! To help answer that, I made a list of six awesome reasons to play the new Valkyria Chronicles Remastered. It’s gorgeous! Using SEGA’s CANVAS engine, the game has a painterly aesthetic, filled with bright colors, and incredible designs, all of which have been enhanced for PS4. It’s human! Seriously — the characters in Valkyria Chronicles, even minor ones that only have written bios, all have endearing traits. Squad 7 isn’t just a faceless resource of soldiers to constantly throw at death — it’s a group of citizens from the game, each with their own story. If you like character-driven RPGs, you will not go wanting with Valkyria Chronicles. It’s… war. Sure. Lots of games revolve around war. But there are constant reminders that everyone from Squad 7 is subject to the horrors of an unrelenting enemy, adverse battle conditions, and worse. There’s definitely a feeling of foreboding every time you step onto the battlefield, where death is permanent. And yet… it’s not overwhelming. The strategy RPG formula in Valkyria Chronicles is elegant in its simplicity. Advance your characters up the battlefield, dodging crossfire and mines, taking advantage of cover to invade and neutralize enemy camps. There are many ways to tactically deploy your troops and achieve victory! Oh, and there’s magic! Because there had to be some mysticism in the game somewhere, there’s some crazy mystical stuff that happens! As you advance through the game’s plot, a lot gets revealed about the ignominious past of Europa, and the legendary race of the extinct Valkyrur. Finally, we put together an awesome package for it. Available both physically and digitally for $29.99, those who pre-ordered and are lucky enough to find them in stores will be able to get the game in the Squad 7 Armored Edition: a collectible metal game case! And if you really want to show off your Valkyria love, there are some brand new PS4 themes available now as well, for $1.99 apiece! View the full article

We’ve reached the end of what has been, for us, an epic journey. Our take on the classic action-adventure game Shadow of the Beast is finally launching on PS4 today! The wonderful people at Sony have created a new trailer for our game, pulling together some of the thoughts shared by people who’ve previewed the game and editing them with some great footage of it in motion. It’s a wonderful (and humbling) way to celebrate the launch of our labor of love: We’ve packed everything we can into it — a deep combat system, a mysterious world to explore, lots of secrets to uncover, the entire original game, a whole heap of Easter Eggs for fans, and hopefully a few memorable moments for everyone! After three years, it’s strange to have reached a point where we can’t add any more. We’re not a big team and we know it’s taken us a long time to get here, but I can genuinely say we’ve done everything we were able to. We hope the result is something that people will enjoy spending time playing; and that the dedicated will savor the challenge of mastering the game’s subtleties and uncovering all of its secrets! We urge those who’ve pre-ordered the game to give the Roger Dean dynamic Theme that is included a try; it was such a wonderful thing to make as fans and we’re really proud of the result. If you want to immerse yourselves even further in the game’s universe, and maybe take it with you on the move, you can buy the Original Soundtrack which Sony will release on PlayStation Store today as well! Thank you for all the support on our journey, and we hope those who choose to play the game enjoy what we’ve made. Thank you, Matt and the Team at Heavy Spectrum View the full article

Hi everyone! My name is Craig Turner and I’m the Community Manager at Deep Silver Dambuster Studios, working on Homefront: The Revolution. The whole team here in Nottingham has been hard at work pumping our blood, sweat, and tears into the game so you guys can have an awesome experience when you get your hands on it as it launches tomorrow! Here are a few behind-the-scenes tidbits directly from our dev team: There are 95 unique heads/faces as part of the Resistance! We scanned a lot of heads with our state-of-the-art face scanning technology, so many of the characters in the game are pretty special to us, because some of them are us. We are the Revolution! The open world of occupied Philadelphia is populated with more than 384 unique and individual NPC personalities! We have a wide cast of characters in Homefront: The Revolution, and the great thing about the Resistance is that it’s made up of people who come from all walks of life. We’re really excited that PlayStation fans will get to meet the cast and discover their unique stories. There are more than 50,000 lines of dialogue reordered to convey the story of Homefront: The Revolution. In order to deliver the level of storytelling we aimed to achieve, we focused on capturing the perfect performance to give our characters and story life. Speaking of dialogue, communication is key in the Co-Op Resistance Mode. You’ll need to work with your team if you want to stand a chance against the KPA. Gear up with 31 attachments across 6 different weapon groups. All of these can be accessed on the fly without going into any menu, even during combat! The KPA outmatch you when it comes to firepower, but with the Resistance’s conversion kit you can adapt your weapon in battle to stay ahead of your enemies. Out of those attachments, 9 are quite unique and can convert your standard battle rifle into, oh, let’s say, a freedom launcher! Lastly, you’ll be happy to know there are 136 1/2 rubber ducks in the game (don’t ask about the half one). This one is probably the most critical element to Homefront: The Revolution. You’ll catch glimpses of these little guys as you traverse through the city. Don’t be afraid to investigate abandoned buildings, you might find hidden resistance supply caches and rubber ducks. We’re all incredibly excited for you to learn more about Homefront: The Revolution come launch day, and we look forward to hearing about your triumphs as you ignite a revolution yourself. Hello everyone, this is Dave Kracker from Spike Chunsoft. I hope you’re ready for the long haul because in Mystery Chronicle: One Way Heroics, once you start, there’s no looking back! The kingdom is being swallowed by a destructive wall of light! But forget about saving the king, forget about saving the townsfolk — a true hero is one who lives to save the day, so you better keep moving. One Way Heroics is a roguelike RPG, meaning the procedurally generated game world is different with every quest. While roguelikes typically stick you in a narrow dungeon, One Way Heroics gives you an entire world to walk. But if you insist on exploring every nook and cranny, know that the forced-scrolling screen will push you to your death before you leave the starting castle. How does an RPG incorporate forced-scrolling? Well, every action you make, be it swinging a sword or equipping armor, brings the shining wall of death one step closer. Do you risk taking a detour to score sweet loot, or do you play it safe and put more distance between yourself and annihilation? But if your FOMO gets you killed, don’t worry. You may lose your progress but you can carry gear between sessions using the Dream Vault and earn points to unlock new perks, NPCs, and classes. Speaking of, with more than 20 classes available you’re guaranteed to find a few who scratch your strategic itch. Initially I liked the Pirate class because their brutal axe can one-hit KO most anything and their innate swimming and lock picking skills make them flexible on the field. But their low charisma makes it hard to recruit NPC allies, and NPCs lead the way to the best quests. Don’t be such a loner — you’ll see more of the world! That applies to real life as well. You can share your progress on Twitter, or give friends passwords to unlock the worlds you’ve explored. I expect the community Wikis to explode with world codes and locations of the best loot. Study up because you’ll want every edge you can get before venturing into the PvP mode. One Way Heroics is coming to PS4 and PS Vita with cross buy support, and it overhauls the gameplay and visuals of the PC indie hit. And since we love in-jokes, we couldn’t resist adding characters from our games Danganronpa and Shiren the Wanderer. Travel to the end of endless worlds when One Way Heroics arrives this summer! The deliciously detailed world of Uncharted 4 just begs players to hit the Share button and grab a few mementos of Drake’s latest adventure. Handily, the day one patch includes a special photo mode that, once enabled in the Options menu, will let you capture the action with a photographer’s poise. There’s a wide range of options to choose from, so we’ve put together a few handy tips to help you nail the perfect shots. 1.) Get Up Close and Personal Uncharted 4’s Photo Mode Camera controls come equipped with “Dolly†settings that allow you to ease in and out (R1/ L1), tilt (Left/Right on the Directional Pad), and adjust focus with a “Field of View†option. Don’t be afraid to try some different angles and go a little rogue with your photography. 2.) Draw Focus A great trick to highlight specific objects in an image is to place them in direct focus. Uncharted 4’s Photo Mode features a “Depth of Field†setting which will allow you to draw focus to objects at a certain distance, making it stand out within the image. We’d recommend upping the intensity of the effect initially (R1), setting the exact distance you want and then gradually rolling back the intensity (L1) until you hit the perfect level. 3.) Hide the Characters Sometimes less is more. If you’d rather capture a dramatic landscape or a stunning piece of architecture without any of the cast photobombing you, you can always choose to remove them from the scene with the “Hide Characters†option. Best of all, you don’t have to remove everybody: you can opt to remove the player character, your buddies, your enemies, or even civilians and just capture exactly what you want. 4.) Set Things in Motion A little natural motion blur is a great way to add a sense of movement to a static image. Swinging across a ravine can take on a whole new sense of drama when the sheer cliff faces are whizzing by in a blur. You can add as much or as little as you like, so play around until you’re happy with the balance. 5.) Add Some Finishing Touches Once you’ve set up the perfect shot there’s a whole range of options to tweak the final look. Some of these you might have come across before, some might be less familiar. “Sharpness,†“Brightness,†and “Saturation†will likely be familiar to most, but some others may be less so: Chromatic Aberration is a phenomenon commonly seen in photography where certain colors of the spectrum appear to “bleed†from the edges of objects in an image. We’d suggest playing with the filter to see what we mean. Film Grain adds a filter to image that replicates some of the traditional “noise†found in analogue recording. It’s a funky effect that gives pictures a classically cinematic look and feel. Vignette creates a bright focal point radiating out from the centre of your image, darkening away towards the edges. It’s great for adding a sense of brooding or foreboding to an image. 6.) Break Out a Filter Uncharted 4’s Photo Mode includes a range of pre-set filters to add a unique twist to your images. You can add a warm vintage feel to your images, some moody noir tones, or go super classy with a black and white effect. Each brings its own particular feel or look to the image, so play around and find the one that works for you. 7.) Use PNG Format for the Highest Quality By default, the PS4 saves your screenshots in a compressed JPEG format. These are a great way to save storage space, but it does come at a cost to the quality. If you really want to capture every intricate detail, switch to PNG. You can adjust this from the Share menu by pressing Options, then selecting “Sharing and Broadcast Settings,†“Screenshot Settings,†and toggling “Image Format†to “PNG.†With all these tips in hand, you should now be poised to capture some breath-taking shots from Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. Hello there! It feels awesome to be on PlayStation.Blog with some great news! This time we want to tell you about She Wants Me Dead on PS4 — an unforgiving rhythm game with an evil cat that really, really wants to kill you. On the beat. To a dance song that will probobly dominate the clubs all summer long. Long story short: super-house-producing-duo Cazzette (Sleepless, Blind Heart) came up with this crazy song called She Wants Me Dead. They brought in viral sensation AronChupa to feature on it and twist it even further. The result was amazing and it instantly inspired us to make a game. She Wants Me Dead is dark and quirky fun at the same time. It blends deadly traps with the feeling of both strategic and flowy platform puzzles. You play as Max, the owner of the cat Lula, who’s created a bunch of unmerciful gauntlets for him. The traps move in rhythm to the music and you better get your groove on to be able to bring Max to safety. We immediately decided to avoid the procedural feeling of endless runners and put a lot of work into thoughtful level design. This makes the game perfect for expert players looking for an amazing speed run challenge. Adding rhythm-synced visuals and level assets was also important to enhance the connection to the song. On top of that, we created an extensive wardrobe, packed with pop cultural references for players to unlock and use to personalize their Max-avatar. One crucial part was merging the gameplay with the actual song that inspired us from the start. How to use one single song for an entire game, without wearing it out? We tried a lot of designs — build-ups with layers of the track, scripted queues, and more. Finally we decided on a straightforward solution and after having replayed the game and its soundtrack track a ridiculous amount of times, we’ve still not stopped loving the song. Hopefully, you will like She Wants Me Dead just as much! View the full article

Welcome, warriors of the wastes! With less than a month to go until the June 7 launch of Guilty Gear Xrd Revelator, it’s time to take a close-up look at the new fighters and DLC options! The world of Guilty Gear is loaded with fantastical fighters and insane warriors, all with their own unique agendas and motivations for fighting. If you’ve pre-ordered the game digitally on PS4 via PlayStation Store, you’ve no doubt been busy cracking skulls and solidifying your technique in the demo mode. While the full roster of characters is currently available in demo mode, two new characters will be available from June 7 to June 21 for free on PlayStation Store! These characters are Raven and Kum Haehyun. Raven the “Undying Disease†is suitable for any style of play, but he excels as a technical mid-range character. Keep your enemies close (but not too close) and take advantage of his long reaching normal attacks. Raven proves exceptionally difficult for fighters that have issues against zoners and he exploits this with a projectile that deals damage and slows down the opponent. Raven loves to take pain just as much as he loves to dish it out. Don’t believe me? Rattle off his “Give it to me here†move and see it for yourself. If you miss out on downloading Raven during launch for free, you can unlock him with free in-game currency at any time. Kum Haehyun — AKA the “Turner of the World†— is a special kind of crazy. Looks like an old man, right? Wrong! Have you ever wanted to pilot your very own fighting mech that looked like a super-ripped, grizzled warrior of the apocalypse? Now you can! Kum Haehyun is the name of the girl who “pilots†the veteran looking warrior, a humanoid construct that delivers old style beat downs with a sensei like efficiency. Haehyun is a power based fighter that’s built for maximum smash-imization (Yikes!) and does not utilize the gatling combo system. Haehyun’s hits deal massive damage and are ideal for link based combos. Her technical tools and power offer a very adaptable solution to virtually any combat situation. Haehyun will be available for purchase after the two-week launch window. Lastly, you’ll have the ability to download the ultra-cool and impossibly stylish character color pack Eclipse Set for free from June 7 to June 21 as well. The Eclipse Set adds a new dimension of artistic awesomeness to your battles and will also be available for purchase after the two-week launch window. Fans of fast paced fighters, get ready to revel in post-apocalyptic 2D glory. Guilty Gear Xrd Revelator and its free DLC launch on June 7 for both PS4 and PS3! View the full article

Star Trek has a long history of exploring strange new worlds, seeking out new life and new civilizations, and boldly going where no man has gone before. Our game, Star Trek Online, has grown on PC over the past six years, but it’s time for us to explore another frontier: PS4. We are happy to announce that this fall, Star Trek Online will be launching on PS4. Our goal is to deliver the same high quality Star Trek experience to players on PlayStation, with some additional upgrades to make the transition a smooth and natural experience. For those unfamiliar with Star Trek Online, we are a free-to-play MMORPG based on the Star Trek franchise offering players the opportunity to create their own captain and explore the galaxy as they play through countless hours of content. Over the past six years of development we have created more than 130 featured episodes (similar to the TV series episodes) that star some of the cast members of the Star Trek series including Michael Dorn, Jeri Ryan, Tim Russ, and more. Star Trek Online will also be one of the first free-to-play MMORPGs to offer both space and ground combat as you fly through the galaxy in hundreds of iconic ships. Your captain and crew can pilot everything from the classic Enterprise to a Klingon Bird-of-Prey or Romulan Warbird. From cruisers and escorts to science vessels and dreadnoughts, you’ll be able to experience the final frontier on your own terms. We’re also bringing several enhancements to the PS4 version. Our first major task was to convert a PC game that takes nearly an entire keyboard to play into a game that plays well with a DualShock 4. We focused on getting the controls right before we began work in earnest on this project, because we knew the game had to be as tactical, fun, and accessible as the PC game that preceded it. A combination of radial menus and streamlining HUD elements created a game that is easily understood, instantly accessible, and incredibly fun to play. Next up, we invested heavily in our engine and added several modern lighting technologies that significantly improved the visual quality of the game. Deferred lighting, light probes, and improvements to our High Dynamic Range lighting system combine to provide more realistic lighting that feels like a true refresh to the game. Alongside the lighting system, we decided the entire UI needed not only a complete graphical overhaul but to have its entire backend rewritten. The goal here was to create a UI that was incredibly streamlined on the backend to ensure the best game performance possible, while also creating a brand new experience built for DualShock 4. We’re really proud of how this looks and how well it performs, and I’m excited for everyone to see it in action. View the full article

Cue a movie-like soundtrack reminiscent of 80’s night flicks, while a desperate, middle-aged man relentlessly fends off hordes of invading monsters inside a big old mansion, all the while gathering dozens of scattered survivors and guiding them to the relative safety of the mercenary rescue chopper. That’s the part-time job you’ll find yourself in when you play My Night Job on PS4. The gameplay is fast and fluid, and focused on pure arcade action. There’s no progressing storyline or successive stages. You are inside one big mansion. You need to keep the monsters from overflowing and destroying the rooms, rescue at least 100 survivors, and get the hell out of there before it’s too late! Mixing 80’s Horror and Arcade GameplayEven though I was in the process of creating a fast-paced, score-based arcade game where tight mechanics and game balancing are king, I always kept in mind the old horror movies I watched on TV when I was younger — and the cheesy, eerie tension they brimmed with. That’s how the setting for the game came to be: an enormous house overflowing with references from more than 30 of those movies, coupled with the familiar feeling of a labyrinthine endless night escape, with just a tiny amount of hope shining through for those skilled and brave enough. More than 60 different objects have been designed as weapons, so you can use cutlery, arcade controllers, golden axes, fish, or umbrellas in combat. You’ll also get special items when you guide hidden special survivors to the chopper: a kitten that obliterates all monsters in a room, a reanimation syringe, and more. The horror movies were a very rich source of inspiration. Bringing Trophies to a New LevelTrophies are actually useful in-game, too! Deep inside the mansion, there’s the trophy room where ten of the shiny trophies you earn are displayed. You can activate and deactivate up to two of them at the same time, with each of them toggling gameplay modifiers in real-time. Enhanced running speed for you or the survivors, 50% more HP, temporary invincibility while transformed into the demon clown (yes, you can be a demon clown for a few seconds), and so on. So accept the job, discover all the secrets in the mansion, survive the night, and show off your hi-score on the online leaderboards! View the full article

Also, when our previous game Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments made it to PlayStation Plus last year, we received so much positive feedback from the community that we wanted to dedicate this new trailer to our PlayStation fans. So please enjoy 11 minutes of PS4 gameplay from Sherlock Holmes: The Devil’s Daughter: As the world’s greatest detective, most of your daily work will focus on investigating crime scenes, tailing suspects, looking for clues, and making deductions. Hi there! I’m Logan Fieth, a game designer based in Seattle. I make games that I don’t fully understand until I create them. We’re making a game that I think players who enjoy puzzle games and discovery will really take to. Four Sided Fantasy is a wordless, seamless experience where you use screen wrap to solve puzzles in ways you never thought about before. You know how in Pac-Man, you can “wrap†from one side of the screen to the other? Your ability is like that, but you can turn it on whenever you want. The confines of your screen are now your friend! We’re also doing something that I’ve never seen a 2D platformer do. The game draws inspiration from film — specifically films like Upstream Color and Spring Breakers — to use stylish editing to create a dream-like feeling. In Four Sided Fantasy, to move from scene to scene, the game uses filmic transitions. So that means foreground wipes, dissolve fades, jump cuts, and more are all present in the game. The teaser trailer above gives you a taste of the variety in the environments, from the rich oranges and greens of Fall to the cold lonely whites and blues of Winter. The game will take you on a yearlong journey, going through each season of the year. We will be revealing a gameplay trailer soon, but with this trailer we wanted to give you a sense of the atmosphere and tone of the game. Four Sided Fantasy started out as a tiny student project of mine, and over the years it’s developed into a full-fledged game that we’re really proud of. Now with Serenity Forge coming on board as publisher, Four Sided Fantasy will be launching this summer on PS4 in North America and Europe. We can’t wait to share it with you! View the full article

Hi, my name is Kacper Niepokólczycki and I’m an Environment Artist at CD Projekt Red. More than a year has passed, and we have been working very hard to bring you Blood and Wine, the final expansion to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. I’m really excited for this opportunity to talk more about creating it. This expansion pack is an old-school add on with 20 hours of new adventures, where players will travel to the land of Toussaint. Witcher fans who are familiar with the books written by Andrzej Sapkowski have probably heard of this region and have waited for a long time to explore it. We started with prototyping the whole hub — this was a difficult task, as Toussaint is different from anything we ever did in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Sunny and beautiful, it’s almost a fantasy land straight out of a fairytale. Building something completely new gave us a lot of room for creativity, but at the same time it was challenging. The Slavic mythos lands we were all so accustomed to had to make room for something new — the mood and tone of southern Italy and France. We quickly fell in love with the architecture, colors, warm sun, and beautiful vistas filled with vineyards and wineries. The most important part of this new realm is the city of Beauclair, the capital of Toussaint, and the palace where the local duchess resides. We had several main focuses when creating these places, and one of the biggest ones was providing players with breathtaking sightseeing opportunities. At the same time, Beauclair had to be different than another epic place in the game: Novigrad. We made that happen, among other things, by adding a lot of verticality to exploration. Beauclair has many levels and really distinct districts. It has its own landmarks and — much like a real-life city — it’s own unique feel that helps immerse players in the world of the game. The city itself is a landmark as well. Since it’s placed on an elevated patch of land, you can see it from afar and it can help you navigate the land of Toussaint without the use of any map. When the concept of the city was done, we started to work on the terrain around it. We plotted routes leading in and out of the city, placed roads and connected these roads to the myriad of points of Interest the expansion offers. With every iteration, we ended up with more and more content. Concept artists were a huge part of the process providing us us with conceptual art of locations, both small and big, we later used to saturate the realm with really mysterious and dangerous spots Geralt could visit. Of course having concept art does not mean all of the design work is finished — on the contrary. In many cases concept art looks gorgeous on paper, but will not work gameplay-wise. This is where 3D Environment Artists come in. Our job is making the location look great and, at the same time, make it play even better. After all, we are not making a film, but crafting a great gameplay experience. Eventually, we started to create more locations outside the city. One of the key things here is always remembering to account for the distance between different locations. This is important to constantly keep players engaged. Just like in Wild Hunt, there are many points of interest to uncover when you explore Toussaint. This is just a very short summary of how we approach the creation of the open world environment you’ll find in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Blood and Wine. It’s an extremely fun and satisfying process, but also very challenging. Personally, I’m sure you’ll like Blood and Wine for it’s new look. It was a super fun experience for us to create it, and I hope you’ll have even more fun experiencing it as a gamer. See you in Toussaint! View the full article

If you spent the weekend playing the open beta for Blizzard’s new arena shooter Overwatch on PS4, there might have been a few surprises thrown your way. Here are a few things that really stood out for us here at PlayStation — plus a few hints, tips, and tricks learned ahead of the full launch on May 24. No doubt you’ll have plenty of your own, so let us know in the comments. 1.) It’s a little bit MOBA, a little bit FPS, and more… Overwatch refuses to be pigeonholed by players expectations of first-person shooters. While all-out carnage is by no means off the agenda, there’s more to it than picking the most powerful hero and charging into battle. Each round will give your team an objective to complete within a time limit — like capturing an area or escorting a payload across the map — and an array of heroes with a huge variety of skills to pick from and learn. 2.) Squad Goals. You’re all working towards the same objective and getting the sweet taste of victory is only going to come from a well-balanced team. During team selection you’ll be advised if your squad is unbalanced and lacking in certain areas — and it’s wise to heed this advice to make sure every base is covered when the match starts. 3.) Play to your strengths. Heroes are roughly grouped together for their skills in offense, support, defense, or as a damage-absorbing tank. Don’t just learn your hero’s attack moves; the L1 and R1 buttons generally contain more interesting special abilities to get a tactical edge, like healing, laying down turrets and traps, moving to vantage points, and much more. Thinking that every character is there to deal damage can be a big mistake. 4.) It’s not all about the kills. At the end of each match, players are invited to vote on their teammates’ performance and select an MVP. But a player’s value isn’t just down to how many enemies they’ve dispatched — everything you do counts towards the common goal, from healing to building turrets to assisting your damage-dealers with essential buffs. 5.) You’re not tied to one hero. If your team feels unbalanced — or you’re just getting pulverized as your currently selected character — you won’t have to suffer for the duration of the game. If you die, or trek back to your spawn room, you’re free to switch it up and select a new hero to carry on the fight with. 6.) Pay attention to the opposition. It’s easy to be blinded by the opposing tanks and offensive players who are causing all the aggro up front and forget about the supporting cast. Take down the opposing team’s ability to heal or resurrect (if they have someone playing as Mercy) and your squad will see the difference. Every character has weaknesses, and discovering what they are really helps. Which leads us on to… 7.) Learn how to contain Bastion. Even if you only play a handful of games, chances are your early experiences of Overwatch will be peppered with takedowns at the robotic hands of Bastion. He can deal a whole heap of damage very quickly, especially in turret mode, but he has a critical weak spot too; watch out for corners and covered spots where he might set up as a sentry bot, and try to get an assassin behind him. 8.) I like the way you move. Pick a hero with special movement abilities and a whole new tactical dimension opens up in attack and defence. Widowmaker’s grappling hook or Pharah’s jump jets are great for finding high, hidden nooks to snipe from, while characters like Tracer and McCree can quickly rush across short distances on the map. See a puff of smoke where Reaper is standing and chances are he’s about to teleport behind your lines and take you out at close quarters. 9.) There are a lot of maps. Rounds in Overwatch can be relatively short — but there’s enough variation in the settings that even in lengthy gaming sessions, map fatigue didn’t set in. All of the locations are filled with cut-throughs, pinch points, and elevated sections, so you won’t feel like you’re being funnelled down a channel towards an objective. 10.) All heroes are created equal. But what you do with them can set a good team apart from a bad one. There are no character upgrades or power progression, so everyone has the same skill sets to pick from — you won’t come up against players who have unlocked countless perks to unbalance the match. What stood out more than anything though is just how much fun Overwatch can be once you get used to its gameplay style, characters, and maps — especially when teamwork takes over. Overwatch will blast its way onto PS4 in a few weeks, and we can’t wait to see what else is in store. View the full article
