Alongside the galaxy of features within LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens, we’re pleased to report that PS4 and PS3 players will also be receiving some free DLC content with the exclusive Droids Character Pack coming right at launch on June 28. The Droids have always been some of my favorite characters in Star Wars films. Even though they’re machines, they still seem to have more personality and charm than a lot of humans do! Which is why it’s really exciting to be able to give players a pack that features these awesome characters. To show you what I mean, we’re here to reveal our latest vignette detailing this exciting content. As you can see from the video, these Droids are a cool bunch and should be familiar to many Star Wars fans. For starters, we have R5-D4 (or “Redâ€), a lesser-known but important astromech droid to join your galactic quest. For the super fans, this is the droid that Luke Skywalker purchased in the original Star Wars film instead of R2-D2 until a malfunctioning motivator set into motion all of the events we now know to have shaped the Star Wars galaxy! Alongside R5, we have IG-88, the chrome bounty hunter droid fans will remember from Star Wars: Episode V — The Empire Strikes Back who carries with him a unique heavy blaster rifle, capable of tracking down his foes. Continuing the theme of combat droids, players will get to use Battle Droids from the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series, including the Captain Battle Droid, Super Battle Droid, and the agile Captain Commando Droid. These three can certainly provide plenty of supporting fire to help you through LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Backing up all of these Battle Droids is their cyborg Supreme Commander — General Grievous. Equipped with his iconic lightsabers and a host of combat maneuvers, he’s every bit as fearsome a foe as what you’ve seen in theater and on television — definitely one of my all-time favorite characters. Being able to run around with him in LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens is a real treat. For those wishing to take a less combat-oriented approach through the galaxy, the ME-8D9 and W1-LE protocol droids offer more civilized methods to deal with conflicts, able to talk their way through situations. Fans might recognize ME-8D9 from Maz Kanata’ castle in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and W1-LE, Lando Calrissian’s personal droid featured in Star Wars: Rebels, the animated series. Lastly, it’s not only characters here — the droids have brought air support with them in the form of a Vulture-class droid starfighter available for players to use in flight levels, as well as an extremely adorable Microfighter version to speed around the five different free play areas within the game. Phew! That’s a lot of droids. As mentioned, the release of this pack is right around the corner, available at launch on June 28 so you’ll get to enjoy all of these awesome characters very soon. In the meantime, from all of us at TT Games… these are the droids you’re looking for… View the full article

At last week’s PlayStation E3 Press Conference, Activision unveiled the latest footage of forthcoming shooter Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. Blasting through Earth’s atmosphere, the new gameplay reveal shed some more light on developer Infinity Ward’s bold new direction for the franchise. We caught up with Senior Art Director and industry veteran Brian Horton after the show to learn more about how the new environment is reshaping everything, from straightforward traversal to throwing grenades. “One thing that we wanted to do was take the Call of Duty recipe we know so well and find an opportunity to expand the mechanics and attempt some visual things we’d never done before,†said Brian of Infinite Warfare’s setting. “So the challenges around that are: well, what does that look like?†he continued. “So we took a tact in which we imagined a merger between NASA and the navy: you take the navy elements with the military aspects — things like battleships — and you push that into space with a NASA aesthetic and that fusion created what we think is a very plausible future.†Brian was keen to emphasise how important it was to go beyond straightforward science fiction tropes and create something which felt like a future reality we might one day encounter. We were keen to find out how he and team struck a balance between striving for something grounded in a convincing reality while also creating a gaming experience that was ultimately fun. “If you get too wrapped up in what is absolutely, scientifically correct, you nerf some of the core principles of what makes a great Call of Duty game,†he says. “You have to stretch and squash and work with the facts to get what you really want from the experience. So, we do take some licences with the science — this is a mass-market product after all, like an action movie — but we really want to make sure we’re not going into laser beams and aliens.†“We always start with the things that we know and then we’ll start to extrapolate and ask: what are those fantasies you have about space? What can I do in a zero gravity environment, for example? “And you start to think, zero gravity is slow to move around in, so I’m going to need something that will allow me to get through this space quickly — and that’s where the grappling hook came from. “I can chose a location and zip to it or I can use it to grab an enemy and pull them towards me. That grapple mechanic is — for us — pushing toward the boundary of science fiction, but you can still imagine someone engineering it.†From there, Brian talked us through several of the weapons showcased in the trailer, including the gravity grenade, which creates anti-gravity pockets that can temporarily suspend enemies in the air. His enthusiasm for the new tech he and his team are creating is clear — once he started talking gadgets, he didn’t want to stop: “Regular grenades can be a little challenging in zero gravity, so we created a seeker grenade. When you throw the grenade it has its own weapon propellant which zooms towards the target and blows it up. We have adapted some of those classic weapons, like grenades, for the environment. “We also introduced another new tool which is this little spider bot. So instead of throwing a grenade, you toss this guy out and he homes in on an enemy, attaches to them, and explodes.†From where we’re sitting, we can hear the rumbles and explosions of the behind-closed-doors presentation being screened to journalists in the next room. We have to ask how that’s possible in space — it’s a vacuum, how do you handle sound? “So we did some research to see if we could simulate sound in space, because in military application the absence of sound would actually be very detrimental. You need that feedback — explosions, bullets whizzing by you — to know how to react. And it matters as a player too. “In the game, there’s a way your suit can simulate those sounds and impacts through photons so that you have a tactical awareness of your environment. We’ve dampened the sound a little, but it’s still there to make sure the player has a good time. This is actually not science fiction either — it’s actually very plausible.†Keeping that plausibility front and center seems to be a core of what the team at Infinity Ward is trying to achieve. What really impressed us was the amount of time the team has put into researching realistic solutions to the challenges the new environment provides and we can’t wait to see how these will play out in the final game. Call of Duty: Infinite War launches across all regions on November 4 — pre-purchase the Legacy or Digital Deluxe Edition and play the Modern Warfare Remastered Campaign 30 days early on October 5, only on PS4. Check it out on PlayStation Store. View the full article

PlayStation Nation, it’s time to equip your arsenal because you’re humanity’s last hope. On August 2 you will be called upon to battle an endless swarm of robots in Livelock. Livelock will be available on PlayStation Store for $19.99. Back in January, we gave you the first glimpse of our top-down, co-op shooter developed by Tuque Games. Focused on heavy action and strategic play, we’re looking to take the old school idea of top-down shooters that we’ve grown to love over the years and add in a new-school spin where players will focus more on utilizing their arsenals in strategic ways to eliminate their enemies. We’re also looking to bring more narrative to the top-down shooter genre. We introduced you to Hex when we first announced Livelock. Since then, we have revealed two additional capital intellects — Vanguard and Catalyst — who bring their own play styles and background stories. All humanity has ended after a cataclysmic gamma ray burst. Upon awakening as one of the capital intellects you are welcomed by an ally known as SATCOM, who wants to see humanity restored. Your search will tell you more about what happened to the planet and its inhabitants. Our team is thrilled to get the game in the hands of PlayStation players later this year. For those looking to get an early glimpse with the game, we will have a playable demo available at RTX in Austin. Swing by booth #201 to get your first try at our top-down shooter! As always, we’ll continue to share more information via Twitter, Facebook, and our blog. We have detailed backgrounds on all three characters and their arsenals if you want to learn more about Livelock! View the full article

At E3 last week, SIE Bend Studio unveiled its brand new PS4 game Days Gone. A brutal, post-apocalyptic open-world adventure, Days Gone follows the story of Deacon St. John — a drifter and bounty hunter eking out his existence in the High Desert of the Pacific Northwest. We caught up with the development team backstage in Los Angeles to find out a little bit more about its main protagonist and why his background is so important to the game. If there’s one thing the team at Bend is keen to impart about the universe it’s crafting, it’s the uncompromising, dog-eat-dog nature of things. “Desperate people do what desperate people need to do to survive,†creative director Ron Allen explains. “In most open world games, when there’s danger, it’s usually because you’ve brought it on yourself. Days Gone is a dangerous world — always.†Watching a horde of infected “Freakers†pour over the environment in the extended demo shown on stage at the PlayStation E3 press conference, we’re left in little doubt as to what he’s getting at. “Pretty much any of the survivors of the pandemic had to have a certain something about them — the appropriate skills to steal, kill and survive in a harsh world,†he continues. “If you didn’t know from the kutt on his back, in his previous life, Deacon St. John was the MC of a motorcycle gang. He learned a lot from being part of that group, and that’s helped him survive.†The team doesn’t flinch from its protagonist’s anti-hero persona. “He’s a dangerous guy. He’s using his skills where he can — his appetite for violence and mayhem help him excel at his job.†“He can find things out in the field and create better tools. For example, you’ll see he’s actually threaded the barrel of his pistol with the same thread pattern as an oil filter, so if he finds oil filters out in the world he can screw them on and it’ll allow him a couple of suppressed shots.†We ask him how much of a role Deacon’s vehicle of choice — a muddied, off-road, dirt bike — plays in the game. “The motorcycle plays a huge, huge part,†he assures us. “It’s extremely nimble — a car can’t fit into certain spaces, and can’t do certain things a motorcycle can do. It’s not the normal biker gang motorcycle. He’s adapted this thing to work in the wild. There’s no way you’re going to pull off jumps or cross the kind of terrain you saw here on a Harley-style bike. Allen explains that not only can you store extra items on your bike, it’s also your primary means for traversing the game world and, of course, escaping from those aforementioned Freakers. Despite the team’s insistence on an uncompromising world, Ron is anxious to share Bend’s deeper ambitions for Deacon and his story. “It’s about the human condition — this guy’s a broken man,†the creative director explains. “A lot of us are motorcycle riders. It’s a really vibrant culture. It’s often associated with criminals, mayhem, and violence, but it’s also about brotherhood and family. Because Deacon has suffered so much loss he holds on to that aspect of his past, and cherishes those relationships. It’s about him finding himself, because he no longer has his motorcycle gang.†We’ll have more on Bend Studio’s exciting new project as development progresses. View the full article

We are pleased to announce that Kill Strain will be available on PS4 beginning July 12 for PlayStation Plus members and, July 19 for all PS4 owners. Kill Strain is one of the service-based games from San Diego Studio, along with Guns Up! (available now) and Drawn To Death (available later this year), which will be free to download upon live release. Kill Strain is currently in Limited Access with more invites going out weekly. To join the action and prepare for the live release of the game we will be sending out a substantial wave of invites to our Limited Access from June 29 to July 3. For those that may want to sign up for the beta, there are limited invites still available, so be sure to sign up at www.KillStrain.com. For those players currently in the Limited Access we will be doing our final account wipe on June 28 to get ready for the new users and the live release; so expect some downtime that morning. Now for the big surprise! We are excited to announce that over the course of the Limited Access, all users who Level up to 20 on or before Monday, July 4 at 11:59 PM Pacific will be automatically rewarded at the close of the beta with an exclusive in-game item — The Vanguard Vincent! This is a limited time offer, so be sure to sign up now. Stay tuned as we’ll have more details and information next week on the Limited Access and Vanguard Vincent. Kill Strain is a PvP experience that pits three teams against one another under uniquely dynamic circumstances. Composed of two teams of four humans, and one team of one or two mutants; mutants have the ability to turn the human combatants — resulting in the team sizes shifting as the match progresses. Matches end when one of three end conditions are met: 1) All Humans Turned, 2) Base Destroyed (Human or Mutant), 3) Strain Takes Over (Time Runs Out). With team-based gameplay and individual based scoring, the key for best results is to stay active. Throughout the match there are various ways to score points and at times helping teammates or enemies alike can be to your advantage. On behalf of the entire development team, we would like to thank those who have joined us throughout the game’s development, those who came in for focus groups, played at some point in our Private Access stages, those who played during our Limited Access stages, and those who are still to join us. Kill Strain is a game that strives to be community driven and without the interest and support of all of you we wouldn’t be where we are. We genuinely thank all of you who have tried Kill Strain to date and look to welcome all who will try it in the future. View the full article

Hello again! This is Aidan from eastasiasoft with some exciting news about our game Lost Sea! After months of toiling away in secrecy we can now official announce Lost Sea will be coming to PS4 on July 5! To coincide with the news, we put together a new trailer that showcases what the game is all about. Lost Sea is an explorative action-adventure game set inside the perilous environment of the Bermuda Triangle. One of the core aspects of the game is exploring a myriad of procedurally generated islands, each with its own unique landmarks and population of friendly crew members and deadly critters. The idea of having procedurally generated islands is something we decided on right at the start of the project, and the concept of a continually shifting archipelago lent itself well to the mysterious setting of the Bermuda Triangle. Lost Sea is a pretty challenging game, so we wanted to make sure that people wouldn’t get tired of seeing the same islands over and over again. Implementing a procedural generation system is a pretty large endeavor. It takes a lot of work to devise a system that makes the game world sufficiently different while ensuring that the islands created are possible for the player to complete and have a good mix of elements. Throughout the course of development, we saw our fair share of crazy islands. From tiny beaches populated entirely with the deadliest creatures the game has to offer to having the player’s ship trapped on a lake inside the island, Lost Sea definitely kept us on our toes! Overall we’re really happy with how the island generation system turned out. After landing on a new island you have no idea what you’re getting into. Maybe it will be easy to explore, populated with lots of skilled crew members and powerful items, or maybe it will be a gigantic, barren island full of murderous creatures and traps. Having a release date is exciting… but that’s not all! We’re also going to be releasing a limited boxed version of Lost Sea in partnership with the fine folks over at Limited Run Games. There’s something extra special about seeing a game that you’ve worked on as a physical object, knowing that it will be in people’s homes around the world. It was an awesome experience putting together the manual and artwork, and it brought back memories of hours spent pouring over the manuals for our favorite games. Make sure to keep an eye on our blog, where over the next few days I’ll be going into much greater detail about the development for some of the core features of Lost Sea. In the meantime, if you have any questions feel free to contact us on Twitter or in the comments section below! View the full article

Team Ico titles — that’s Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, to date — are among the few games out there to have genuinely made gamers shed a tear thanks to their emotional, impactful narratives. And that’s an approach that The Last Guardian is looking to continue, as it tells the story of a young boy and his large and loveable animal friend, Trico. You’d have to possess a heart made of colossi stone if you’ve not been moved by some of the beautiful game footage shown so far. But if you’re wondering how Team Ico has mastered the dark art of the emotional gut punch, we’ve got you covered. PlayStation.Blog had a chat with The Last Guardian Creator and Director Fumito Ueda. 1. The Power of Visual StorytellingIt’s easy for any storyteller to fall in love with their own words in telling a tale, but Ueda is more for letting the pictures do the talking, especially given the boy and Trico have no common language. “They can only communicate via gestures, motion, and reactions, so visual storytelling was the best approach to making the game and showcasing the tale,†he says. “I’m always looking at ways to convey human emotion with technology but at the moment I thought a great way to achieve a range of emotions and expressions was via an animal.†2. Team Ico’s First VoiceoverWhile there’s a strong emphasis on visual narrative, The Last Guardian does something no other Team Ico title has done before. “At the start of the game we use a voiceover of the boy when he’s older,†explains Ueda-san. “It helps provide a sense of context when much of the communication is non-verbal. It brings the player closer to the boy because you can get direct access to his thoughts. It also gives us a natural way to deliver hints, information, and exposition to the player.†3. Make the Player and Character as OneThe Last Guardian’s human protagonist may not have a name, but there are other ways to bring you closer to him as a person. “One of my favorite things about the game are the ‘eureka’ moments; when the boy is trying to get Trico to understand something and he finally gets it,†says Ueda. “That not only binds the characters, but also you as a player because you feel the same nice moment of accomplishment the boy does. “We also wanted to give you more of the young boy’s backstory to discover, compared to Ico and Shadow of the Colossus.†4. Save the Cat-bird!Anyone who’s studied film will have likely heard of “Save the cat!†— a term popularized by screenwriter Blake Snyder. It’s a technique where the protagonist of the story does something kind to endear you to them. And the first thing The Last Guardian asks you to do is to pull two broken spears out of poor Trico’s body, instantly making you a hero but also putting the genesis of their important relationship directly in your hands. “Their developing bond is the key theme across the game,†explains Ueda. “But the big difference between this and the relationships in Ico and Shadow of the Colossus is that there’s a more dynamic range between the boy and Trico. From that first moment in the game, the boy is uncertain if Trico will be a friend or foe, and you immediately start trying to work out how to bridge that communication gap. “But rather than the more straightforward relationships seen in Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, you’ll see both dramatic peaks and troughs in their relationship…†5. Enemies Aren’t Just ObstaclesThe frightening foes of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus often reflect the strong themes of Ueda’s tales — which is why there aren’t lots of them compared to other action adventure games. So what do the enemies in The Last Guardian represent? “Partnership,†smiles Ueda. “The boy doesn’t possess combat skills, so you need to work together with Trico to overcome these threats. “With Ico we focused more on the puzzle elements to keep Princess Yorda safe, and in Shadow of the Colossus we focused on driving you to defeating colossi, at a cost. With The Last Guardian we examine the changing relationship between the boy and Trico, and the challenges that represents as you try to discover the game’s mysteries. “But we also achieve a lot of that during the quiet moments of the story — without those peaceful beats we probably wouldn’t have been able to achieve the scale and variation of their relationship, and their payoff moments.†There’s no doubt we’ll see more examples of just how The Last Guardian will deliver its emotional story when it launches on October 25, but in the meantime Ueda-san personally challenges you to go back to the E3 2016 trailer and get analyzing. “There are so many little details which are hidden in this trailer — so look through it closely and you may discover a few things which we’ve not talked about yet…†View the full article

E3 is in the air, and awesome new games are dropping left and right. Here are my favorite trailers from the show so far — check back soon for more picks, or cut out the middleman and visit YouTube to see every single video. God of War Santa Monica Studio reimagines the iconic PlayStation franchise, and the results look promising indeed.Days Gone Bend Studio knocked me out with this one — we’ve seen post-apocalyptic games before, but not ones with this emotional center. One to watch. Spider-ManMarvel and Insomniac Games team up on one of the most-talked about games from E3. I love the score on this one. Resident Evil 7 biohazard Capcom takes the landmark horror series in a new direction, with a new first-person perspective and PlayStation VR support for maximum immersion.Horizon Zero DawnIt’s not a true trailer, but it’s still super impressive to see more than eight minutes of Guerrilla’s open-world epic in action. The Last GuardianConsistently powerful stuff, with a lovely soundtrack and dreamlike visuals. And hey, who’s that other guy? Detroit: Become Human Quantic Dream has always asked players to make difficult decisions. But this neo-noir thriller set in a futuristic Detroit looks to turn the consequences up to 11.Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare This exhilerating look at Jackal dogfighting and close-quarters combat in zero g left me reeling. Our first look at the Retribution’s futuristic bridge and loading bay is one of my favorite moments of the entire show.Final Fantasy XVI continue to be fascinated by this game’s scale and style, and this trailer ably demonstrates why.. FarpointI’m a sucker for sci-fi, and I’ve been waiting to see an FPS take in PlayStation VR. Death StrandingKojima’s back. I need say no more. View the full article

We’re way stoked from the rush of having our Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare ship assault gameplay debut at Sony’s E3 press conference on that massive screen! If you weren’t there or haven’t seen the livestream yet, check out our new gameplay reveal here: We’re extremely proud to debut gameplay from Infinite Warfare. This particular gameplay sequence highlights our campaign’s continuous, nearly seamless narrative experience. Captain Reyes goes from bridge, to flight deck, to his Jackal, and straight into space combat, accomplishing the mission with a breach, a firefight to the objective, and an exciting getaway from the doomed enemy carrier. Jackal combat, and the adrenaline-pumping dogfighting you saw in the level, is a brand new addition to Call of Duty gameplay, which we can deliver due to the new space setting. We think you’re going to love the experience picking up the controller and piloting your own Jackal. Also, Raven Software has put endless hours of work into Modern Warfare Remastered, so it was really sweet to see that come to life on the big stage. We’re all honored to be able to give the fans a game they’ve been so passionate about. The dev teams are taking a careful, thoughtful approach to preserving classic Modern Warfare gameplay, while updating the game’s visuals and key technical aspects, such as audio, lighting, and rendering tech, plus much more, with the power and prowess of this console generation. It’s awesome that we finally get to show off Infinite Warfare gameplay. It’s going to get even better, as we also look to talk about more campaign details, zombies, eSports and of course multiplayer. We can’t wait to share new game details with you over the next several months! View the full article

We have just concluded the PlayStation E3 Press Conference for 2016 and if ever there was a year dedicated to thrilling entertainment experiences, this is it. This year we unveiled a stellar lineup of extraordinary games for both PS4 and the upcoming PlayStation VR. We showed incredible new games including Days Gone from the SIE Bend Studio, the new Spider-Man from Insomniac Games, God of War from SIE Santa Monica Studio, Death Stranding from Kojima Productions, and Resident Evil 7 biohazard from Capcom. Other featured titles from SIE Worldwide Studios included the highly anticipated titles Horizon Zero Dawn, Detroit: Become Human, and The Last Guardian, which I’m delighted to confirm will launch on PS4 October 25, 2016. We also confirmed that PlayStation VR will launch on October 13, 2016 in North America. And what is a new platform without content? In the press conference we unveiled unique PS VR experiences, including Farpoint from Impulse Gear, Star Wars Battlefront: X-Wing VR Mission from Electronic Arts, and Batman: Arkham VR from RockSteady and Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment. Perhaps I should also address the bandicoot in the room. My t-shirt choice for the keynote at PlayStation Experience in December caused a bit of a stir. So you can imagine how thrilled I am that we worked with Activision to bring one of PlayStation’s most celebrated characters, Crash Bandicoot, to PS4. The Crash Bandicoot Remaster will contain Crash 1, Crash 2, and Warped, fully remastered for PS4. Speaking of our partners at Activision, PlayStation continues to be the home to one of the world’s biggest franchises with the upcoming launch of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. Believe it or not, I’m only scratching the surface on E3 this year — you’ll find more details below, and we’ll be adding updates throughout the week. Before I sign off, I want to thank you for your support. When we launched PS4 in 2013, we made a promise to put gamers first and I am so proud that we have continued to build on that promise and bring you entertainment experiences only PS4 can deliver. Let us know what you think about the show this year and thank you so much for continuing this journey with us. God of War Santa Monica Studio PS4 Everything, everywhere changes.Change is an essential part of life. In creative development change is often the explosive spark that transforms good enough into truly memorable. Several years ago we at Santa Monica Studio began the journey of creating a new God of War. All of us recognized a special honor and responsibility to create a different and better and truly more memorable experience than before. I realized early on that we had to make changes in every aspect of the game. (Surprise!) …. From a personal and professional standpoint, this is a dream come true. I’ve been an avid Marvel fan all my life. When I first learned Insomniac was approached by our long-time friends and collaborators at Sony Interactive Entertainment with the opportunity to create a blockbuster Spider-Man console game experience, I practically ran into Ted’s office professing my passion for Spider-Man — along with a desire to serve as creative director. Fortunately, there are many more longtime fans and professional admirers of Marvel at Insomniac. From comics to films and TV, Marvel has a stellar reputation for unique characters and storytelling filled with personality and humor. Those are tenets we value deeply in our own craft. Well, it’s finally time to share what we’ve been working on. Today during the PlayStation E3 2016 Press Conference we debuted our brand new original franchise, Days Gone. The PlayStation team, as well as the press conference production crew at the Shrine Auditorium, gave us the perfect venue to showcase some of the hard work we’ve been putting into the game’s characters, story, open-world environments, Drifter bike and dangerous encounters. The team is very excited about the reactions we’ve seen so far and we’re looking forward to a very busy E3. Androids, who look exactly like human beings, have replaced humans in most tasks: they are workers, babysitters, gardeners, nurses, teachers, clerks. The story of Detroit starts with an unexplained incident that begins to affect the Androids. Some disappear without any explanation, others have unexpected behaviors and strangely show signs of emotions. The rumors of “deviant†androids start spreading, but no one seems to know what’s really happening… Read the full PlayStation.Blog post here. — David Cage, Director, Quantic Dream Horizon Zero Dawn Guerrilla Games PS4 At tonight’s PlayStation’s E3 Press Conference, Guerrilla Games was excited to share more gameplay from Horizon Zero Dawn. In this demo, we follow Aloy as she journeys beyond the walls of her village to defeat a ‘demon’ which is terrorizing locals and breeding fear throughout the valley. Aloy will have to use every ounce of her knowledge, intelligence and agility to survive this encounter…. Catbot, STEVe, and our eight other robots each have unique special abilities that you can use to slice and dice your way across hazardous battle arenas. Even the environment — lasers, falling platforms, giant pits of lava, avalanches, and more – becomes a powerful weapon you can deploy to dominate the competition. All this local and online multiplayer goodness can be yours when Blade Ballet comes to PS4 in August. Ready to give the game a spin now? We’re headed to Evo, IndyPopCon and Gen Con this year. Stop by and check us out! And stay tuned for more updates soon. — Justin Sanders // CEO, DreamSail Games Chambara team ok LLC PS4 Winner of the BAFTA Ones To Watch Award in 2015, Chambara elegantly reinvents hide and seek in a high-contrast world. Players hide in plain sight by camouflaging against like-colored areas to ambush each other in thrilling and stylish duels. Chambara invokes the glory days of couch multiplayer because we believe there is tremendous value in the interpersonal connections that can be forged through that kind of play. We’ve seen those connections forged at the many events we have exhibited Chambara at across the country. We are thrilled to announce that USC Games Publishing and team ok will be bringing Chambara to PS4 on July 26, 2016. — Kevin Wong // Chambara Project Lead, team ok LLC Cryptark AlienTrap Games PS4 An ancient floatilla of derelict hulks drifts through space, ripe with valuable alien technologies just waiting to be salvaged. Even though the alien inhabitants are long dead, cybernetic security systems lie in wait to shred any intruders. Empowered by a contract of privateering, and a surly mech-suit bristling with ordnance, you must plan your boarding action, load munitions, and blast your way through the alien wreck to destroy the Security Core and get paid! Cryptark is a plasma-scorched 2D sci-fi shooter, and all of us at AlienTrap Games are excited to be showing it off at E3 this year. We’re certain that Cryptark’s aggressive firefights will get some smiles on the showfloor, but there’s more depth beyond just the flying shrapnel. As a scrappy mech privateer, everything you do is financially orientated. All those shells and rockets cost money! Achieve the obscure objectives set by your shadowy employers, and increase your rewards. Just don’t get fragged, or you’ll be left holding the bill. Go into the red, and your tenuous government contract will be terminated! Cryptark will be bringing its unique blend of action combat and “space-pirate business management†to PS4 this fall. — Jesse McGibney // Creative Director, AlienTrap Games Dear Esther The Chinese Room PS4 Back in 2012 Dear Esther pushed forward the boundaries of game design and broke the mold in storytelling — not bad for a project that began as a Half-Life 2 mod. We at Curve are bringing it to PS4 this summer with added Director’s Commentary mode, redefined controls for modern consoles and Trophies to unlock throughout the game. For the first time, PS4 owners will be able to explore the mystery of this remote Scottish island. There’s a lot of questions to be answered: What is the significance of the aerial? What happened on the motorway? Is the island real or imagined? Who is Esther and why has she chosen to summon you here? — Jonny Merritt // Producer, Curve Digital Drawful 2 Jackbox Games PS4 The game of terrible drawings and hilariously wrong answers returns. Three to eight players use their phone or tablet as a controller to draw weird things like a “pitcher of nachos†or “death by trombone.†Then everyone — even potentially an audience of thousands — tries to guess the real answer. Drawful 2 includes new features like the ability to add your own user-generated prompts to make even crazier custom games with your friends, as well as expanded tools for streaming including censoring players. Drawful 2 is a go-to party game that everyone can play and enjoy, from the team behind Fibbage, Quiplash and You Don’t Know Jack. We are happy to announce the release date is coming up on June 21! — Arnie Niekamp EVE: Valkyrie CCP Games PS4, PlayStation VR EVE: Valkyrie is all about fulfilling the fantasy of being a hotshot space fighter pilot, and virtual reality allows us to deliver that experience in completely new ways at a fidelity never before possible. In EVE: Valkyrie, you’ll join a band of immortal space pirates and battle rival factions for wealth and notoriety on the lawless fringes of space. With progression-based ship upgrades; loadout customization; and personalized paint jobs and cockpits, each Valkyrie career will be unique. And we’re excited to support cross-platform play at the launch PS VR, so you can team up with (or take down) your friends across all supported VR devices in intense multiplayer dogfights. We’ll also be rolling out free game updates for all pilots, including the all-new Carrier Assault mode and Crossroads map coming to the game next week. With EVE: Valkyrie, you’ll always be getting the newest, deadliest ships, game modes, and mind-bending VR multiplayer maps, fresh from the minds of the CCP Newcastle dev team. EVE: Valkyrie is coming to PS4 with the launch of PS VR in October 2016, so stay tuned to PlayStation.Blog for more info. We hope to see you in space soon! — Ryan Geddes // CCP Games Everything David OReilly PS4 Everything is a game about life, nothing, and you, and I’m excited to announce that it’s launching on PlayStation in fall of 2016. Everything invites you to experience and interact with the universe from the perspectives of all the things in it, from atoms to galaxies and everything in between. Everything will allow you to see beyond your eyes to a place you never realized you were looking at, to listen to things too quiet to be heard, and to be things you didn’t know you already were. It has a playtime of roughly infinity. — David OReilly Fault Milestone One Alive in Dissonance, Sekai Project PS4, PS Vita Fault is a series of science-fantasy cinematic novels using a unique 3D camera system for a visually immersive reading experience. Fault Milestone One follows the story of a princess named Selphine and her Royal Guardian Ritona. When a sudden assault devastates their homeland of Rughzenhaide, the two are forced to escape…but somehow end up teleported into an unknown forest full of vegetation they don’t recognize. The atmosphere is thick and heavy. There is no sign of life, very unusual in such a lush forest. Something is wrong about the land, but they are too startled to notice what. Verdun, the first WW1 FPS game is coming to PS4 on August 30. Over the past year we had lots of requests for a console version from the Verdun community, so we started fine-tuning the game with Abstraction Games for the console version. We distracted the community with several free expansions on the PC, ones that of course were in favor to expand the WW1 realism and Western front for all of you. We hope this surprise is not only exciting for the Verdun community, but also for all you curious PlayStation players! For those that haven’t heard about the game yet, Verdun is a multiplayer first-person shooter set in a realistic World War 1 setting. The game takes place on the western front between 1914 and 1918, in one of the bloodiest conflicts in world history. The developers were inspired by the infamous Battle of Verdun France in 1916. The game offers four distinct game-modes: Frontlines, Attrition, Rifle Deathmatch and Squad Defense. — Stephanie van Geel // Public Relations View the full article

PSBlog Feed: Farpoint Announced for PlayStation VR
Commander Fury posted a topic in Playstation Blog
Hello PS fans. I’m proud to introduce you to Impulse Gear and our first project, Farpoint. Developed exclusively for play in PlayStation VR, Farpoint is an unnerving space adventure set on a hostile alien world. After crash landing you have to fight to survive as you explore and uncover the planet’s secrets. Your only hope of escape is to keep moving and discover the fate of your team. Impulse Gear is a small independent developer based in downtown San Francisco. We founded Impulse Gear with one very important mission: to create virtual reality games that would live up to the expectations of you, the gamer. To do that, we worked closely with SIE to develop an entirely new way to play games with the PS VR Aim Controller. The PS VR Aim Controller offers the most realistic and precise way to control our game. With direct 1 to 1 tracking, you aim in Farpoint just as you would in real life. How you hold and where you point the controller are directly matched in the game. This allows you to do things in Farpoint that just are not possible in a standard FPS game. It also provides an unbelievable sense of presence in the virtual world. We will have a lot more information about Farpoint soon. In the meantime, feel free to follow Impulse Gear on your favorite social network. View the full article -

Is anybody out there? Can you hear me? Is this thing on? Oh hello – my name is Cory Davis, Co-Creative Director at a studio you have never heard of: Tangentlemen. How did we get here? It’s sort of a haze now… A few years ago I was dragged out of the basement of a Berlin techno club (while battling a brutal Spec Ops: The Line come-down) for a chat with Toby Gard (Creator of Lara Croft and Tomb Raider), Rich Smith (of Call of Duty Modern Warfare) and John Garcia-Shelton (of Medal of Honor and Call of Duty). Something was discussed about beards, alchemical symbols, The Shining, and a chance to leave AAA development to take risks and make the games that we’ve always wanted to make. As we talked, a dark cloud filled the room. I felt like I was sinking… from there it was just flashes. A trip through the desert, an edible herb garden, a liquid Kitty, a shattered door, a dead tortoise, a King’s Head, a nude scanning session. A Garage. Chop Chop. Sprays of blood. Toby as Jack from the Shining – no wait, that was me… Toby was Shelly Duvall?! Is this making any sense? It’s all leading to something… Something. Are these scenes from the game we are working on, memories of experiences creating it, or something more terrifying altogether? At least now I realize it wasn’t all a hallucination. Tangentlemen has grown from a team of weirdos in a garage in Los Angeles into a collaboration with Sony’s External Development team at Santa Monica Studio, and after a frightening journey into the unknown, we are excited to finally pull back the curtain to unveil our first project – Here They Lie. Here They Lie is a dark psychological horror experience that transports you to a terrifying, surreal world inhabited by strange and malevolent creatures. Unimaginable horrors lurk around every corner, just out of sight, haunting and infecting your mind. Dare yourself to go deeper down the rabbit hole and confront the meaning of your existence. With a focus on narrative, and the experience of dread, Here They Lie is not your typical survival horror game. We can’t wait to take this trip with you and show you what lies hidden deep within this mind-altering journey. Here They Lie will launch Fall 2016 for PlayStation VR and PlayStation 4. E3 is always an incredibly exciting time for both developers and gamers. At last year’s E3, Rocksteady was out in force because Batman: Arkham Knight was released the week after the show. If you’d told me then that we’d be back in 2016 announcing our next game, I’d have called you crazy – but here we are…The next game from Rocksteady Studios is Batman: Arkham VR. Batman: Arkham VR is a new Batman story set in the Arkham universe and exclusive to PlayStation VR. From the early days of development on Batman: Arkham Asylum, our primary objective has been to create games that make players genuinely feel like they are the Batman. Now I know we said Batman: Arkham Knight was our last-ever Batman game, but the arrival of the PlayStation VR devkits changed that! The opportunity to create a completely new kind of Batman experience, to take the ‘Be the Batman’ experience to an even deeper level on this exciting new platform, was too good to resist. One of the things that Arkham fans have been asking for is the opportunity to explore some of the most iconic locations in Batman’s universe such as Wayne Manor and the Batcave. For the first time in a Rocksteady Arkham story, Batman: Arkham VR offers players the chance to do exactly that – to feel that unique sense of presence in these legendary locations through virtual reality. If you’ve ever wondered how it would feel to be Bruce Wayne surrounded by the finery of Wayne Manor, then descend into the Batcave to put on the iconic Batsuit, you’ll know why we’re so excited about putting the game in players’ hands. The switch from screens to headsets was a fascinating creative and technical challenge for us, as it has inspired us to really focus on Batman’s detective skills and find new ways to use them. We all feel that we’ve ended up creating an amazing new Batman experience that is both complementary and a counterpoint to the epic grandeur of Batman: Arkham Knight. This time around we’re telling a highly focused, very personal story entirely in first-person. Batman: Arkham VR is an intense murder mystery in the style of the classic Batman comic books, but with a strong dose of the dark psychology that the Arkham games are well known for. That’s about all I can say for now – we’re unveiling the game at E3 this week, and we’re looking forward to unleashing Batman: Arkham VR on gamers across the world when it launches on PlayStation VR in October 2016. Horror fans all have one thing in common: We live to be terrified. Capcom has heard fans’ masochistic cries for a Resident Evil game far more terrifying than anything that has come before it. Resident Evil 7 biohazard is the harrowing homecoming you’ve been waiting for. Capcom announced Resident Evil 7 biohazard, the next major entry in the famed Resident Evil series, today during PlayStation’s big E3 2016 press conference in Los Angeles. While Resident Evil 7 draws from the series’ roots of atmospheric survival horror, it also delivers a whole new level of terror. In the classic Resident Evil games of yesteryear, players braced for fear in the first-person via the creepy door-opening scenes, and Resident Evil 7 ramps up that tension with an immersive first-person view and a photorealistic graphical style. Capcom is able to achieve a shocking degree of visual fidelity thanks to the new and fully VR compatible proprietary in-house RE Engine. Last year’s “Kitchen†tech demo for PlayStation VR was in fact built on this new engine as well. With the RE Engine plus industry leading audio and visual technologies, you experience every abhorrent detail up close and personal in Resident Evil 7. Compatibility with PlayStation VR escalates the unsettling feeling of presence to a level that horror fans have never experienced. No Resident Evil you’ve ever survived can prepare you for this. Of course, a horror story is only as frightening as its setting, and Resident Evil 7 pays tribute to the franchise’s origins on this front as well. Resident Evil 7 is set after the events of Resident Evil 6, taking place in modern day and revolving around a foreboding, derelict plantation mansion in rural America. Players must explore and survive the horrors within the mysterious, sprawling estate. Courageous PS4 owners can get a taste of this new chapter of Resident Evil by downloading the “Resident Evil 7 Teaser: Beginning Hour†demo on PlayStation Store. This free demo of Resident Evil 7 is available exclusively to all PlayStation Plus subscribers at this time, and offers a sense of the intense and terrifying experience awaiting you. We don’t want to spoil your time playing Beginning Hour by offering too many details, so start your download today and prepare to face your fears. True survivalists who pre-order the Standard or Digital Deluxe version of Resident Evil 7 will receive the Survival Pack, which includes an early unlock to the hardest difficulty mode as well as a special item set when the game releases. Pre-order via the PlayStation Store and you’ll also receive the exclusive Resident Evil 7 PS4 dynamic theme. Resident Evil and PlayStation have a long history together – starting 20 years ago with the launch of the 1996 original – and now is the perfect time for fans of both. Experiencing the exploration and immersive atmosphere in the new, unnervingly intimate first-person view of Resident Evil 7 is guaranteed to rattle players on its own. But with the added magic of PS VR it will become the stuff of nightmares when the game releases for PS4 on January 24, 2017. View the full article

Welcome back to Wumpa Island! It’s been 20 years since Crash Bandicoot first invaded our hearts and consoles. And Activision, Toys For Bob, and Vicarious Visions are beyond excited to bring him back as a guest star in Skylanders Imaginators for his 20th anniversary celebration. Vicarious Visions has a long history with Crash and our office is full of hardcore fans. When we were given the opportunity to bring Crash Bandicoot to Skylands, we knew we’d need to really deliver on a true Crash experience. It was no easy task, but I’m happy to say we’re extremely proud of the version of Crash we’ve brought to life. We’ve maintained Crash’s unique and quirky personality and his, y’know, innate Wumpa-ness, as both a 3D character and a new toy. The ModelOur early focus was to nail Crash’s look. We wanted to make him feel at home in his new high-definition surroundings, while staying as true to his original design as possible. To kick off this exploration, we dug deep (and I mean DEEP) into the archives for inspiration. We even unearthed a pile of ancient, mimeographed documents of the original “Willy the Wombat†concepts that were shared with Vicarious Visions ten years ago when we began to work on the franchise. (We may or may not have unleashed a 32-bit mummy on the office in the process. The good news is he can only travel on one axis, so he’s pretty easy to avoid.) Crash’s look has evolved over the years, but these timeworn images made it clear that the lines and proportions of his character have been consistent since day one. With that in mind, we began churning out concepts for Crash’s in-game look while we brainstormed how best to translate his energy and personality into a real-life toy. We went through sooooo many versions of Crash’s toy pose. It had to capture everything about Crash that makes him special and also represent him as a true member of the Senseis in Imaginators. We brought in lifelong Crash fans to evaluate our sketches, early 3D prints, and test figures at every stage to make sure we were creating a toy THEY would want for their favorite furry protagonist. When we were happy with Crash’s pose and look, we did a final consistency pass and just like that… Crash was ready to run amuck in the Skylanders Imaginators line-up. The Moves After finalizing Crash’s model, it was time for us to bring him to glorious, fully-animated, 3-D life. It was important that we stayed true to how he moved in his earlier incarnations, from his edginess, trademark wackiness, and swagger as he navigates the world, all the way down to his idles and timeouts. If you want to see one of those fancy throwbacks, just set the controller down for a second and see what happens! But, that’s just the beginning of our obsessive attention to detail: Crates! No Crash game would be complete without these ubiquitous wooden boxes. Jump on the TNT Crates to blow them up, or collect the Bazooka Crate to get a rocket launcher and jetpack that allows you to attack from high in the air! The Yo-yo Every Sensei in Skylanders Imaginators has a devastating Sky-Chi attack, their most powerful move. Crash’s Sky-Chi attack is to use his yo-yo to yank his enemies into a spin attack! Spinning Crash Bandicoot would not be complete without his signature spin attack. Rest assured that we have heard your silent demands and delivered on this classic move. Life System Anyone who has played a Skylanders game knows that the game uses an RPG-style health meter, while the Crash games have traditionally used a life system. It was important to us that we kept the spirit of that feature while folding Crash into the Skylanders game system. To achieve this, we built a special Life System just for Crash in Skylanders Imaginators. When Crash is defeated in our game, he reappears with an animation inspired from the past Crash games! Not only that, when Crash throws crates around he has a chance of throwing one that holds up an extra life. Aku Aku Crash doesn’t speak (most of the time) and we wanted to make sure that he communicated in a way that was familiar to fans but wouldn’t confuse new players and soon-to-be new fans! Enter Aku Aku! He provides a voice for our silent Bandicoot when the player needs to communicate with him. Aku Aku has been Crash’s best friend and guide since day one. We would have been remiss if we’d excluded him. As a Sensei, Crash has some special abilities he can impart on player-created Imaginator characters. Aku Aku handles all the voice stuff. Not only that, when Crash is defeated, he is shielded for a short period of time by the wise and wooden Aku Aku! And that’s all we have for today folks! I hope you’ve enjoyed this peek behind-the-scenes at Crash in Skylanders Imaginators. I also hope you are as excited as we are to get your hands on this crazy awesome Crash Bandicoot toy and bring him to life in a new Skylanders adventure. The game is crammed full of fun and sprinkled with fan service for all of you who have supported this guy for the past two decades. Stay tuned for more announcements and Wumpa-flavored news in the months to come by following us @SkylandersGame on Twitter for the latest updates! View the full article

On behalf of everyone at Criterion Games and DICE, I’m really excited to be able to share the first details about Star Wars Battlefront: X-Wing VR Mission, coming exclusively to PlayStation VR later this year. At Criterion, putting players directly into the heart of a vehicle gaming experience is one of our biggest passions. With games like our Burnout series, the Need for Speed games we’ve made, and even the speeder bike missions a lot of you played in Star Wars Battlefront, this focus has been deeply felt. And now we’re applying it to something new, something really special. Piloting an X-Wing is an aspect of the Star Wars universe many of us have dreamed of experiencing. It’s something from the films we remember watching with awe, and even reenacted throughout our lives. Virtual reality brings us one step closer to realizing this amazing dream of piloting an X-wing in space. With this incredible new platform, you will be instantaneously transported from the comforts of your living room to an X-Wing cockpit in space. And with the artists at Criterion and DICE meticulously crafting every authentic detail, the experience feels more real than you can imagine. Once you look outside your ship, you’ll start to take in and appreciate the sheer magnitude of the environment in which you’re sitting. Sure, you may think you know that a Blockade Runner or a Star Destroyer are big, but once you’re firing at Imperial forces alongside their hulls as you maneuver around their defenses, then you’ll truly comprehend the enormity of these starships. It’s intensely exciting! Best of all, this amazing offering will be free for all owners of Star Wars Battlefront on PS4. Millions of you have joined the Star Wars Battlefront community since the game’s launch in December and we couldn’t think of a better reward for that loyalty and take your experience to a completely new level. We hope you enjoy playing it as much as we are enjoying making it. View the full article

Hey everyone, Today at PlayStation’s Press Conference, we revealed our new Spider-Man game coming exclusively to PlayStation 4. (Surprise!) You can see the trailer below. There are a few fun details embedded throughout the piece, so take your time watching! From a personal and professional standpoint, this is a dream come true. I’ve been an avid Marvel fan all my life. When I first learned Insomniac was approached by our long-time friends and collaborators at Sony Interactive Entertainment with the opportunity to create a blockbuster Spider-Man console game experience, I practically ran into Ted’s office professing my passion for Spider-Man – along with a desire to serve as creative director. Fortunately, there are many more longtime fans and professional admirers of Marvel at Insomniac. From comics to films and TV, Marvel has a stellar reputation for unique characters and storytelling filled with personality and humor. Those are tenets we value deeply in our own craft. From our first meeting, Marvel, Spider-Man and Insomniac have felt like a match made in heaven. So much so that for the first time in Insomniac’s 22-year history, we’re working on an IP that didn’t originate in-house. We love building big games, with incredible gameplay, deep stories, and beautiful graphics. Spider-Man is one of the most iconic and well-known characters in the world, and we’re thrilled to be given the responsibility to create a brand-new, authentic Spider-Man story. Nope, this isn’t the same Spider-Man you’ve met before, nor is our game based on the upcoming movie. This is a more seasoned Peter Parker who’s more masterful at fighting big crime in New York City. At the same time, he’s struggling to balance his absurdly chaotic personal life and career. All while nine million New Yorkers depend on him for their safety… no pressure indeed. This collaboration also allows us to quickly return to action developing on PS4. Having released Ratchet & Clank, we feel confident in our ability to create a showpiece for the console. And we’re downright giddy bringing Spidey’s acrobatic abilities, improvisation, and web-slinging to life. But we also want to introduce new elements that players have never experienced with Spider-Man, ranging from traversing with parkour and utilizing the environment, to new combat and blockbuster set-pieces. We can’t wait to share more about our Spider-Man game in the months to come. For all the latest, follow Insomniac Games on Twitter or Like us on Facebook. View the full article
