Hey everyone! I’m Zack Bertok, founder of Thylacine Studios and creator of Siralim. Siralim is a deep, monster capture RPG where you can summon and customize hundreds of creatures to fight by your side. You’ll need these creatures to help you travel through randomly-generated dungeons and complete randomized quests. While doing so, you’ll find rare treasure that can be used to upgrade your castle, empower your creatures, craft powerful artifacts, learn new spells, and much more. I’m very excited to announce Siralim is launching at the end of 2015 as a cross buy game for PS4, PS3, and PS Vita. You’ll start your journey in Siralim, which happens to be your very own castle. Siralim is the central hub of the game where you’ll manage your inventory, upgrade your items, and things like that. You can also upgrade Siralim to add new rooms and entice new citizens to live in your kingdom, thereby unlocking new game features. One of the early upgrades you might consider purchasing is the blacksmith, who can craft powerful weapons and armor. You might also want to invest in the enchanter’s room, which will allow you to make those weapons and armor even more powerful. You can craft and enchant equipment to augment your creatures’ power, or to grant them new abilities. There are more than 500 different crafting materials to collect. The meat of the game takes place in randomly generated dungeons known as Realms. In each Realm, you’ll be given an optional quest known as a Duty to complete. However, your main focus should be to collect treasure and defeat your enemies. There are hundreds of different events and interesting things that can happen in each Realm, so each adventure will be a fresh experience. There are currently eight different Realm environments for you to unlock, such as the fiery Chaos Realm, the peaceful Life Realm, and the chilly Winter Realm. Each Realm environment offers unique treasure and events that you won’t find anywhere else! Battles are turn-based, similar to what you might find in early Dragon Quest or Final Fantasy games. Conversely, you’re not doing any of the fighting yourself; instead, you’ll summon creatures to fight for you! There are more than 300 unique creatures to capture and summon, and each one has its own unique abilities. You’ll find that the key to success is to form a strategic team of creatures with abilities that effectively synergize with each other. In addition, you can find spell scrolls to cast any of 100+ different spells to turn the tide of battle. When you’re tired of exploring Realms and completing Duties, you can also do battle in the arena to earn valuable prizes. Or, you might want to summon powerful bosses to fight using a type of item called a Sigil. If you defeat those bosses, you’ll earn legendary crafting materials that can be used to enhance your creatures’ weapons and armor. If you’re not looking for a fight, you might head over to the tavern and play a game that you’re sure to lose with the gambling dwarves. Of course, that’s only if you can pull yourself away from Nether Egg crafting, a process that allows you to create eggs that will someday hatch into extremely powerful, and highly customizable creatures. You will never run out of things to do. The game is meant to be playable forever, and we leverage the elements of experimentation, exploration, and the player’s own imagination to create an experience that is sure to entice anyone who is looking for a deep RPG experience. Want to play until your character is level 937? Go for it. I’d love to hear what you think about Siralim, so please leave a comment if you get a chance! And make sure to keep an eye on Playstation Store toward the end of 2015 for the game’s release! View the full article

You’ve all been patiently waiting for the title that changes the landscape of video games, and thankfully that wait is over… I am Bread has arrived today on PS4! PlayStation Plus subscribers can pick it up at a 10% discount for a limited time! For those of you that might be new to the wonderfully wheat-filled world of our floury friend, your goal, as a slice of bread, is to become toast. While I’m sure you’re thinking that, that constrains your options to a regular kitchen appliance such as a, oh, I don’t know, toaster. Well, you’re wrong! All you need is a heat source to get toasty up in this brioche. Get creative. There are a few things you do need to worry about, though. On your many adventures across bedroom floors and garden flower beds, you’ve got to make sure you’re not covered in dirt, mud, ants, and a whole host of other things that will affect your edibility. As well as that, keep an eye on your time because the slower you are, the worse grade you’ll get once you finish the level. Like Surgeon Simulator, we pride ourselves on bringing you games that utilize physics in ways that others don’t. Controlling a slice of bread is obviously something a bit out of the ordinary, but our fantastic team have come up with a brilliant control scheme that works perfectly with DualShock 4. Bread can grab hold of absolutely anything with its four corners and scurry, swing, or climb across any surface, all in a realistic manner. Yes, we’re being serious when we say bread can move in a realistic manner. However, we understand that there’s more to this particular foodstuff family than a mere slice of bread, and we feel like the games industry needs to progress by giving more options to the player. Play as a baguette and cause as much destruction as you’d like, smashing into as many things as possible, or roll around a multitude of race courses as a bagel, besting your friends’ times on the leaderboards. As well as that, there’s Cheese Hunt, Zero-G mode, and Free Roam where you can loaf around as much as you want. For the first week of launch, I am Bread is 10% off for PlayStation Plus members, meaning there’s never been a better time to jump in and become the bread. We’re only scratching the surface on what can be achieved in this accurate representation of a slice’s lifespan. The world is your oyster… or toaster, rather. So, go and toast. View the full article

Mega Man is one of Capcom’s earliest and most beloved characters. I’ve even met gamers that have never played a Mega Man game before, but own Mega Man shirts or even have tattoos of him! We hope to make jumping into Mega Man the easiest it’s ever been with this collection of the series’ 8-bit origins: Mega Man 1-6 for only $14.99. Whether you’re new to the series or it’s just been a while, we’ve put together a little video history piece about what each of the games introduced, and what made them special. Alongside the six games, which display in crisp HD sprites, we’re including a ton of content in Mega Man Legacy Collection that will let everyone really get to know the rest of what makes Mega Man so timeless: Database: All six games include a Database that features a description of every enemy and which weapon they’re weak against. The best part is you can jump into a practice fight against any Robot Master with all weapons available to you before diving into the full game. Museum: We compiled hundreds of production art pieces, concept work, unused enemy sketches, and other cool artifacts. Seeing all this art that was the source of the pixel art in the game feels like a treat because it’s a new way to see the games you and I played. Music player: The music is one of the strongest components of what makes Mega Man so popular, and this player puts all 100+ tracks from Mega Man 1-6 in one spot for you to enjoy. Challenges: A series of 50+ challenges that take some of the most difficult sections of the games and arranges them in a time trial format. It’s fully supported by leaderboards and video replays for the top times so you can learn from the best. What sets Challenge Mode apart from just playing the full game as fast as you can is that you have access to all the weapons and items from the respective game for each section of a challenge. This creates situations where you can find the fastest way through a stage that’s not normally available. For example, you can find ways to use Item 2 (Jet Sled) to bypass areas on Air Man’s stage. I’m looking forward to seeing how creative you all get to get through areas quickly. It’s a whole new challenge when you have all the tools at your disposal. Before I leave you, there’s one question I want to answer that I often see. Why Mega Man 1-6? Good question. Allow me to introduce developer Digital Eclipse, a team that is deeply rooted in the preservation of video games as a valid media of our cultural heritage, on the same level as movies and TV. They’ve even worked with the Smithsonian to get video games in historic displays. Digital Eclipse specializes in creating an authentic experience that is completely accurate to the original game by using their new engine that can do this without porting or emulating. All the original glitches, cheats, flicker is there naturally because of the quality of this reproduction effort. This tech is currently developed for games made on the original console Mega Man 1-6 were developed for, hence the games in this collection. If there are any Capcom 8-bit games you’d like to see get the same treatment, I’m all ears! Now it’s time for me to sign off. You can go download and enjoy Mega Man Legacy Collection on PS4 today! Yakuza 5 will be coming out later this year, and we have some more information for those of you eager to jump into the seedy underbelly of Japan! Let’s start of with stuff you probably know about: Yakuza 5 has five protagonists, and takes place across five major Japanese cities. Important to note — each protagonist engaged with the criminal organization in the past, and are about to get pulled right back into the midst of it. But like any good open world game, it’s the little things that matter. So between the story plot, you can occupy your time by relieving stress at the batting center, and test your luck and skills at the UFO Catcher (Claw Machine) mini-game! Or if you’re more of a people person, Yakuza 5 also has options for poker, sea fishing, and bowling! Lesser known about the western release of Yakuza 5 is that includes all the Japanese DLC, including “Another Drama†which is a series of extensive sub-plots that focus on each protagonist. Whether you are training for dance battles, ferrying people around as a taxi driver, or even helping out as a temporary ramen cook, there’s a whole world to explore! Head into CLUB SEGA and play some Virtua Fighter 2 with your friends over PSN. If you prefer to play something more rhythmic, you can check out Taiko no Tatsujin and drum to the beat of some music. Oh, and not to mention that the battle system and customization system have been enhanced from Yakuza 4, so players can fight with the best of them! We also have the final installment of the interviews with Yakuza 5’s developers answering the questions fans sent to #Yakuza5PS! Learn more details about the music in Yakuza, the developers’ thoughts on the Western release and the overall themes of the game. Finally, Yakuza 5 is now available for digital pre-order! Every pre-order comes with the Yakuza 5 “Fulfiller of Dreams†static Theme, featuring the five main characters in the game! View the full article

Dreams do come true. Starting tomorrow, August 25th, Back to Bed — Indie Prize Europe’s nominee for Best Console Game and winner of the Dutch Game Awards’ Guts and Glory award — is walking its way onto your PS4, PS3, and PS Vita. In our last post, we introduced you to Bob, the sleepwalker, Subob, his man-faced dog guardian, and the surrealist dream puzzle world from the minds of Bedtime Digital Games. Back to Bed is a whimsical and challenging puzzle game with not-of-this-world environments that blur the lines between fantasy and reality. As Subob, you must defy gravity, avoid enemies and treacherous encounters, and use unlikely objects like fish bridges and giant-size apples to guide Bob back to the safety of his bed. With 30+ levels and two modes — Play and Nightmare — Back to Bed will force you to think quickly on your feet and more than a few steps ahead. If you are looking for a real challenge, we invite you to try Nightmare mode which adds additional tasks, like collecting keys to unlock Bob’s bedroom door, to increase each level’s difficulty. To get an insider’s perspective on Back to Bed’s journey from a student project to a big time console game, we reached out to Klaus Pedersen and Jonas Byrresen from Bedtime Digital Games to tell their story. We hope you enjoy it. LOOT: How did you come up with the idea for Back to Bed? Bedtime Digital Games: The core idea for Back to Bed was originally inspired by old Disney cartoons where characters like Donald Duck and Goofy sleepwalk around dangerous areas, such as construction sites and over rooftops, and miraculously come out unscathed due to sheer dumb luck. In those cartoons, the environment constantly adapts and the sleepwalker is somehow saved in the nick of time and always returns home safely. LOOT: What inspired you to create such a whimsical and unique game? Bedtime Digital Games: At first, the game was more realistic — just a cityscape with a few strange elements. But over time, it evolved into a dreamlike, whimsical world that only could be found in the mind of Bob the Sleepwalker. This created the idea that what we see is half-dream and half-real, and that everything is not what it seems. To create this world, our Art Director looked very much into classic surreal art that often creates strange surreal landscapes where the rules of physics are bent to create something new. Great inspirations here were artists like Salvador Dali, Magritte, and Escher for his illusions. The result is a game world that is inspired by the real world, but is something else that is half dream. LOOT: How did Back to Bed — originally a student project at DADIU — turn into a full-blown console game? Bedtime Digital Games: When we completed Back to Bed as a student project, it was only as a PC web build and contained about a dozen levels. It was a very good start to what was clearly a strange yet funny universe with a great core mechanic. Once our peers played the game, they began telling us we had to continue with development. We took that to heart and began to see our dreams turn into reality. We started to spend weekends and some vacation working on the game. Our initial goal was just to get a game out there with our name on it, as a way to maybe start a career in game development — but it turned into much more than that. We decided to take a chance with an investor and start our own company, with Back to Bed as the first product. We made a smaller team from the old student group and then just crunched on making more levels, different worlds, Nightmare play mode, and new audio. The culmination of all this work is the console version, where we feel the game really shines, looks great and controls like we want. For us, Back to Bed is truly at home on PlayStation. LOOT: As a student and game development studio just starting out, what challenges did you face and overcome? Bedtime Digital Games: One of the big changes that we had to make, that is very unique to DADIU student games, was to scale down the team size. As a student team, we had around 15 people (more or less) connected to and working on the game. A team that size was not something our budget could handle and not all members were ready to make the big jump to starting their own indie studio. Luckily, some of the core members took the plunge with us to found Bedtime Digital Games and we were able to give credit to those who helped create the core game. The other major challenge: suddenly you are no longer a student team, but now a full-fledged game development studio, whether you were ready or not. We quickly learned that the passion and desire to make great games is not always enough to be successful. You also have to make sure that your company is a solid business. This is done by first and foremost creating a solid and fun product, but also making sure players know your game and that your studio exists. You have to also love talking about your studio and games. LOOT: Any other cool and interesting things about the game or the development that you would like to share with the PlayStation audience? Bedtime Digital Games: Being able achieve our dream of getting Back to Bed on PlayStation is such a rush. The feeling that this strange world and story that we have created and polished is something people actually want to play in and explore is incredible. We constantly hear individual interpretations of our simple, yet surreal story, from our fans. They tell us how they perceive this dream world and the deeper meaning it has to them, beyond being a fun game, to get lost it. This inspires us to be inventive and drives us create more games! Back to Bed will be available tomorrow on August 25th. The cross buy console exclusive, with cross save support and Trophies, will launch with an exclusive dynamic PS4 theme, along with special discount pricing for PlayStation Plus members. And remember: the clock turns Bobwise. View the full article

For Xeodrifter, the long road to release on PS4 and PS Vita is finally upon us here at Gambitious, and we’re super stoked to be sharing our experiences of getting Renegade Kid’s great action-exploration game to gamers on PlayStation devices. As a cross buy title and with demos available on PSN, we’re hoping as many people as possible will play Renegade Kid’s stellar 2D platformer and become as big a fan of their work as we are! The journey officially began right before PAX East 2015, as Renegade Kid was looking for a publishing partner to help put Xeodrifter on PlayStation devices. As a start-up ourselves, and based locally in Austin, TX, right beside Renegade Kid, a collaboration between Gambitous and the Mutant Mudds developer made perfect sense. We officially announced a collaboration at PAX East 2015, bringing Renegade Kid to (a very snowy) Boston to interact with fans and share the news that Xeodrifter was finally coming to PS4 and PS Vita! The thing that drew us to Xeodrifter (besides Renegade Kid’s stellar pedigree) is how easy it is to pick up and enjoy. The game is quite clearly an homage to the 2D action-adventure games we all grew up loving as kids. From its retro-inspired 8-bit aesthetic, to the (critically acclaimed) chiptunes soundtrack, the game is a love letter to the 2D platformers of ole. Xeodrifter™ OST by Renegade Kid For us, this sense of playability was validated at PAX, as people could easily show up to the booth, put on the headphones and enjoy the game. This is actually a really informative process at conventions, too, as you can tell very quickly what features or designs are working for players and which ones aren’t. With the glory of PAX East over, development of Xeodrifter began in earnest as we returned back from the snow entrenched state of Massachusetts. This is where the programming wizard, Matthew Gambrell of Renegade Kid came in and pretty much stole the show in terms of his programming wizardry. To exemplify the coding prowess of Matthew’s warlock-like powers, gather round granddaddy Gambitious and let us tell you a story of how QA works in this industry. Usually, QA is a long, arduous process that can result in a lot of back and forth between the QA team testing the game and the developers creating it. “Finding bugs, fixing them, finding bugs, fixing them, etc.,†is usually the tedious routine that is involved with this process. As some might say in the industry, it is a necessary evil, but an evil we all embrace. However, for Matt, this was not the process. No, no, no, for Matt, QA is when this guy just kicks back his feet and watches everyone nod in awe of how smoothly everything is going. We here at Gambitious must give Matt the most gracious of bows as the kid managed to get the game through QA without a single-hitch, allowing us to easily transition into submitting the game to PlayStation in preparation for Xeodrifter’s inclusion on PlayStation store. This is a great place to mention how great of a partner PlayStation has been through this entire process, too. Reaching out to us about their Summer retail promotional tour, we were invited to include Xeodrifter in PS4 units across the country for gamers to try the game for themselves at select retailers. For an indie publisher such as ourselves, this is a huge deal and is such a great gesture from PlayStation to allow us into their retail promo program. We here at Gambitious are incredibly grateful to Renegade Kid for entrusting us to help deliver this game to PlayStation fans across the world so they can experience this fantastic 2D platformer for themselves. At long last, Xeodrifter will be making its debut on PlayStation devices on September 1st! We hope you enjoy it! View the full article

Call of Duty Blacks Ops 3 Beta: Everything You Need to Know | PlayStation.Blog It’s been almost three years since we’ve seen Treyarch’s take on Call of Duty, but the Black Ops 3 Beta proves that the veteran studio hasn’t lost its expert touch. The addition of selectable Specialist characters, wall-running shootouts worthy of a Wachowskis movie, and powerful new weapons all add up to a fresh and dynamic experience. Whether you’re a series veteran or new to Call of Duty, this PlayStation.Blog post is dedicated to getting you ahead in the Call of Duty Black Ops 3 Beta, currently live on PS4 through the end of the weekend. But we need your help! Below is a list of tips I’ve collected from my hands-on time in the Beta. What are yours? Leave them in the comments below, or Tweet them to us (include #blackops3ps4tips). Over the course of the week, this Blog post will grow and evolve, covering every element under the sun: Specialists, weapons, gear, perks, and more. Basics Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 PS4 | $59.99 Pre-order for Beta access Slow down! Simple, but critical. When you sprint, you draw attention from enemy combatants. It’s better to creep quietly and use nearby cover to keep a low profile. Keep it simple. Black Ops III adds new Combat Movements, or special stunts you can chain together to zip fluidly through the maps. You can do just fine without any of them, though, so don’t lose yourself in Wall Running just for the sake of it. Fire when ready. Firing your weapon will set off enemy radars and draw the wrong kind of attention. Be mindful of when and where you fire your weapon, and be prepared to deal with enemies who may be drawn to the scene. Learn to dominate. If you’ve been away from the Call of Duty scene for some time, Domination mode may be your more accessible way to level up without having to sport an elite kill-death ratio. As long as you can capture and defend territories, you can die as much as you like with no consequence. @PlayStation #blackops3ps4tips Be aware of your surroundings. Where your teammates ARE, the enemies AREN'T. Go where your teammates aren't. — Alakazam (@Alakazam318) August 20, 2015 @PlayStation Aim your grenades and secondary grenades high. If you think it's high enough, it's not. #blackops3ps4tips — Boro (@TBP_Jake) August 20, 2015 Specialists Charge Battery. Battery is a strong starter candidate for your Specialist slot. Her Kinetic Armor ability can be a lifesaver if your skills are still a little rusty, while the War Machine is a powerful special weapon that can blow enemies away even if they’re behind cover. @PlayStation Use the Seraph specialist because you get a 1-shot kill revolver as your special ability. — Piero (@mazdoh) August 20, 2015 @PlayStation When running Nomad, shoot Hive on every opening to your building to let you focus on your objective with your gun. — Cody/C4 (@C4CodyW) August 20, 2015 @PlayStation @charlieINTEL a good #blackops3ps4tips when using RUIN's Spikes, time it properly otherwise you'll waste it as you activate it — Mutilatorz (@Mutilatorz) August 20, 2015 Create-a-Class Token trouble. Keep a close eye on those precious Unlock Tokens, which open up new guns, add-ons, Specialist abilities, and Perks. It’s easy to make a few hasty decisions and then regret them later when you find a weapon you really like. Invest for success. Early on, it’s best to pick one or two guns you like and upgrade them, gaining key attachments like Quickdraw (faster aiming), Long Barrel (further range), and Stock (higher accuracy). Strong candidates include the versatile ARK-7 rifle and the balanced Kuda SMG. You’ll unlock @PlayStation The razorback is an all around good weapon, it is good at short to long range gun battles. — Tybeerius Longhorn (@CallMeGZuZ) August 20, 2015 @PlayStation Best tip ever: watch your back! Use of Sixth Sense perk is a lifesaver. A moving personal motion sensor. #blackops3ps4tips — TheDrunkenCrew (@TheDrunkenCrew) August 20, 2015 @PlayStation Try using the Black Hat. Unlike BO2 it doesn't just destroy enemy scorestreaks, but it actually gives you control over them — Virgil (@Virgil134) August 20, 2015 Advanced Tactics @PlayStation You can shoot down scorestreaks with specialist weapons #blackops3ps4tips https://t.co/VRsAjQcsGm — JHub (@xJHUBx) August 20, 2015 @PlayStation dont try to knife while wall running pic.twitter.com/5BOl743PrU — HerbzDunGoofed! Hello! I’m Anthony Swinnich, one of the three people at Neon Deity Games who designed Shutshimi! The game is done, and we’re proud to announce it will be swimming onto PS4 and PS Vita on August 25th as a cross buy title, courtesy of our benevolent publisher Choice Provisions. That’s super soon! We didn’t set out to reinvent the Goldfish SHMUP genre, but sometimes you go where the current takes you. Shutshimi began as a game jam project made in under 24 hours, but we fell so deeply in love with the concept that we decided to go forth and flesh it out into a full game. Several months later we “finished†and released it into the deep blue sea, but we were still filled with a ton of great ideas, so we got to work on an update. That update spiraled out of control and became a vastly expanded version of the original game, adding 2-4 player local co-op, loads of wacky new power-ups, new and updated sprites and backgrounds, a ton of additional songs, brand new enemies and bosses, lots of extra hats, cross save and Trophy support, and even online leaderboards. If this is your first time hearing of the game, Shutshimi is a Cute ‘Em Up about the story of The Fishy defending its home waters against an army of mysterious invaders. Squids, pelicans, reverse-mermen, bears, and more are overrunning the sea and it’s up to you to stop them! Levels normally last ten seconds, then the player has ten seconds to pick a power-up from the shop for the next round. However, The Fishy has a horrible memory so these power-ups are often forgotten as quickly as they’re found. Did we mention that only three are available each time, and they’re pulled down from a pool of more than 50, or that some are good and some are bad? It’s up to you to pick the best tools for the job, but it’s easier said than done! The ten-second time limit for the Mad Libs-style item descriptions will pressure you to read fast, think fast, and choose fast. Now that development is done, we’d be remiss not to make note of the help and guidance we’ve received from our publisher, Choice Provisions. Their expertise and experience have aided us in creating a game we think is an incredibly strange but fun ride, and that’s something we’d say even if they didn’t threaten to cancel our deal and never release us from their basement! (Seriously! Call the police! The rats here are jerks!) All of that said, we hope you’ll dive in and get your feet wet with Shutshimi. We’ll be floating around if anyone has any questions! After releasing Risen 3: Titan Lords on PS3 last year, we were eager to take the opportunity to also bring the game to RPG fans on PS4. It’s actually the first time we’ve done in-house PS4 development, and as such we were really pushing to further improve and optimize the graphics of the game by taking advantage of the power PS4 provides. Our first objective was improving texture resolution for items, objects, foliage, terrain, particle effects, characters, monsters, and other in-game models and integrating them into the game in a higher quality than before. As such, our PS4 version actually features better textures and improved viewing ranges than we were able to provide on the “Ultra†settings with the 32-bit PC version. Thanks to the 64-bit architecture and the larger memory, we were also able to drastically reduce loading times. We’ve also been able to introduce new, state-of-the-art, post-process effects such as bokeh depth of field and HDR bloom, as well as enabling a new physically based, more visually-realistic cloud rendering technique that adds even more spectacular skies and sunsets to the dynamic day-night cycles. The PS4 features like remote play, streaming, recording, and share play are also of course supported. Risen 3: Titan Lords — Enhanced Edition also includes all updates as well as all additional content released to date, including the Adventure Garb, Fog Island, and Uprising of the Little Guys DLCs. This adds two additional islands to the main game together with new monsters, landscapes, and items. Each of these islands also brings its own storyline with new characters and quests. And for our experienced players and Risen veterans, we’re also pleased to announce the introduction of an all-new “ultra†difficulty level, featuring even more difficult opponents as well as changes in the gameplay such as introducing additional vulnerability during evasive maneuvers or adding a cooldown on potions — we’re can’t wait to see how our fans Rise to this particular challenge! Have fun! Björn Pankratz & Philipp Krause View the full article

Calling all PS4 fans! Before we launch our next major system software update, we’re running a beta program to test its functionality. If you’d like to get a sneak peek at the features of the new system software, and help us with feedback on ways to improve it, sign up today. You can sign up to be a beta tester here. You will need a PS4 system (of course), an Internet connection, and a master account — sub-accounts cannot participate in the program. Make sure you’re a member of the PlayStation Forums in advance to get access to our beta forums. Also, beta testers will be able to roll back to the previous PS4 system software update (v2.57) anytime. The beta program will start in early September, and we’ll have more information on the new features included at that time. We are accepting a limited number of beta testers, so if you’re interested, sign up sooner rather than later. Thanks in advance for helping test the system software update — your feedback will go a long way toward making this even better. View the full article

It’s time! Minutes ago, Treyarch and Activision officially kicked off Call of Duty Black Ops 3 Multiplayer Beta on PS4. Seeing that this is officially a Really Big Deal, we wanted to create a definitive resource for PS4 gamers looking to jump in. See below for crucial details cultivated by the fine folks at Treyarch and Activision. Beta Content How big is the Beta file? The Beta is packed with a lot of content, weighing it at approximately 12.5 GB. Download times will vary based on location, server traffic, and connection speed. Will any Campaign or Zombies content be available in the Beta? No, the Black Ops 3 Beta is specifically focused on competitive multiplayer. What maps will be included in the Black Ops 3 Beta? Hunted: This big game hunting lodge is situated beneath a waterfall in the lush mountains of Ethiopia, where rugged terrain opens up to long sightlines and a stealthy underwater pathway. Combine: Set in the remote Egyptian Sahara, this vertical farming and sustainability research facility plays fast and frenetic with tight interiors, an open middle and a dangerous flank path. Evac: An abandoned emergency evacuation zone atop an overgrown rooftop in the middle of Singapore’s flooded quarantine zone. What game modes will be supported in the Beta? The Black Ops 3 Beta will include the following game modes: Team Deathmatch Hardpoint Demolition Domination Kill Confirmed Capture the Flag Search and Destroy What are Specialists, and how do they impact competitive play? Specialists are elite soldiers being introduced in Black Ops 3, each with their own distinctive personality, look, voice, weapons, and abilities. Each Specialist’s weapon or ability can be earned multiple times during a match and deliver critical tactical opportunities, whether it be via a boost in agility, a powerful explosive bow, or more. What Specialists will be included in the Beta? During the span of the beta and as you progress, you’ll have a chance to try any of the five Specialists already announced, as well as two brand-new characters: Battery and Spectre. On Day One, players will begin to have access to: Battery: Battery operates ahead of the front lines. Her War Machine fires salvos of bouncing grenades, while her Kinetic Armor can deflect enemy bullets when active… though she remains vulnerable to headshots and non-bullet damage. Ruin: A reckless infantry soldier who prefers to surprise his enemies. He rushes into battle with his Overdrive ability, and can deliver a devastating shockwave with his Gravity Spikes. Outrider: A hunter-tracker who stalks her prey from afar before moving in for the kill. Use her Vision Pulse ability to reveal the location of nearby enemies or her Sparrow compound bow with its deadly explosive bolts. Prophet: Prefers to disrupt opponents’ tactics before moving in for the kill. His Tempest is a charge-shot weapon that delivers chain electricity to all nearby enemies. He can confuse enemies with his Glitch ability, which flashes him back to a previous position. Seraph: Known for extreme focus and discipline in combat. Her high-caliber Annihilator revolver fires powerful rounds with increased bullet penetration taking out enemies with one shot. She’s also able to earn Scorestreaks more quickly using her Combat Focus ability, which triggers a brief bonus multiplier. Nomad: Prefers to turn the environment against his enemies. Case in point: His H.I.V.E. weapon, which deploys trap pods filled with deadly nano-drones. When near death, Nomad can recover using his Rejack ability. Will I be able to use Create-A-Class in the Beta? Yes, you’ll be able to customize your equipment loadouts across multiple classes in the Beta. How does the Weapon Paintshop work? Available in the Beta, this new feature enables players to create custom graphics with up to 64 layers. Each side of the weapon can be completely unique. As the Beta progresses, will Treyarch roll in any new features, modes, or the like? Certain surprises may or may not be in store. Let’s just say that you’ll want to play the Beta through its entire run from August 19th to August 23rd. What will be the Level cap in the Black Ops 3 beta? The Beta will kick off with a cap of Level 28, and will expand over the course of the Beta. Beta Gameplay What unique gameplay features distinguish Black Ops 3’s competitive multiplayer from other Call of Duty titles? Black Ops III features an all-new movement system that empowers players to fluidly move through the environment with finesse, using controlled thrust jumps, power slides, and fast mantling capabilities in a multitude of combinations. With the “guns-up†philosophy, players maintain full control of their weapon at all times and have 360-degrees of motion through all maneuvers. Treyarch is also introducing an all-new Specialist system that will debut nine elite Specialists to choose from in multiplayer – each with their own look, personality, voice and battle-hardened weapons and abilities. Each weapon and ability is designed to make your Specialist a unique force to be reckoned with. The Beta will feature eight of the nine Specialists that will be found in the final game. What more can you say regarding Black Ops 3’s “Combat Movement Combat Movements are chainable movement styles that empower Black Ops 3 players to maneuver around their environment in dynamic ways. These abilities draw from the power meter on the HUD. A brief list of examples include: Thrust Jumps: Press and hold X to add additional verticality to your jump. If you press and hold for a short duration, you’ll gain extra air but won’t fully deplete your power meter; if you press and hold for a longer beat, you’ll gain maximum verticality but fully drain your power meter. You can also feather the X button for a bit of extra distance. Power Slide: While running (press R3), you can press the Circle button to slide into or out of combat at a high velocity. Wall Run: Jump onto a wall at an angle to initiate a Wall Run. Your gun is always ready to fire at a moment’s notice. Combat Movements are often more effective when chained together in creative ways that reflect your combat situation, meaning you can go from a Thrust Jump to a Power Slide to a Wall Run in order to adjust to incoming threats or targets. What resolution and framerate will the Black Ops 3 Beta support on PS4? The Black Ops 3 Beta on PS4 will support a native resolution of 1080p and a target framerate of 60 frames per second. Accessing the Beta How do I participate in the Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Beta on PS4? To lock in your immediate access, you must have a beta access code. The easiest way to get a beta access code is to pre-order Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 on PS4, or pre-purchase the game through the PlayStation Store. Each retailer will have a limited supply of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Beta codes, and will be available while quantities last. You can pre-order online and find information about participating retailers by visiting CallofDuty.com/BlackOps3/Buy. How long will be the Beta be active on PS4? The Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Beta will run from Wednesday, August 19th through Sunday, August 23rd. Look for more information to be released throughout the week. Will my progress from the Beta carry over to retail? No, progress will not carry over from the Beta. Treyarch’s focus is making the final game the best and most stable experience it can be and they will be working on balancing and other fixes leading up to launch. Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 PS4 | $59.99 Pre-order for Beta access Where do I redeem my Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Beta code? Head over to CallofDuty.com/BlackOps3Beta and follow the instructions on the page to reserve your spot in the Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Beta. You will be required to log in with a Call of Duty account and enter your Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Beta code. If you do not have a Call of Duty account, you can create a free one. After creating your free account, you will be sent an account verification email to the address you provide. What’s the difference between my Beta code that I received and my Beta token? Your pre-order Beta code reserved your spot for the Beta and is redeemed at CallofDuty.com/BlackOps3Beta. Once you have registered, a Beta token will be emailed to you on a rolling basis beginning on August 19th. This Beta token will allow you to download the Beta from the platform you have designated in the registration process. I’ve pre-purchased my copy of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 through the PlayStation Store. Where can I locate my code? You don’t need one! Code redemption is not necessary for pre-purchases through PlayStation Store. You are automatically validated to participate in the Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Beta. When the Beta opens on August 19th, you will be able to download it immediately. I’ve pre-ordered my copy of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 through a participating retailer. Where can I locate my Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Beta code? In most cases, the Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Beta code will be printed on the retail receipt or sent to you via email in an online receipt. If you did not receive a beta code, can’t locate your code, or your code is illegible, please contact your retailer to recover it. I entered my Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Beta code, but it didn’t work. What should I do? Please verify that you are entering the correct code. If you are receiving an error message stating that the code you entered is invalid or that your code has already been redeemed, please contact Activision support. Is the Beta available worldwide? Availability of the Black Ops 3 Beta will vary by territory. How can I give feedback and report bugs to make Black Ops 3 better? We will be posting a survey link on callofduty.com once the Beta starts. We welcome feedback and encourage everyone to share. The more feedback, the better. Will the servers ever go down for maintenance? Because this is a Beta, periodic maintenance may be necessary throughout the gameplay period. Please follow @Treyarch on Twitter for updates. Hi everyone. Wow, what an incredible few months. First of all, and on behalf of everyone here at Rocksteady Studios, I’d like to say a massive “thank you†for your support in making Batman: Arkham Knight the success it has been. The team have poured blood, sweat and tears into this, the final chapter in our Arkham trilogy. But we’re not done yet. So what’s new this month? Well, if you have the Season Pass, you’ve already experienced the “Matter of Family†Batgirl DLC, and today we’re continuing with new content and launching our Tim Burton-inspired “1989 Movie Batmobile Pack.†You’ll get to drive this iconic car on custom racetracks that take inspiration from both of the Tim Burton movies with two bespoke challenges for each track. Plus, if you’ve managed to clear the streets of the Arkham Knight’s drone tanks, you’ll be able to take the car onto the streets of Gotham City. Also included in today’s drop is the “Bat-Family Skin Pack†with new skins for Batman, Robin, Nightwing, and Catwoman. And there’s lots of great stuff still to come. On September 1st we’ll be launching the first of our “Crime Fighter Challenge Packs†and soon after that, another legendary Batmobile takes to the streets of Gotham as we continue to deliver new content every month. Thank you again for your support and keep letting us know what you think on Facebook or Twitter. View the full article

Volume is ready for PS4, and here’s your first look at the game’s launch trailer. Many of you may recognize the actor in the live-action sequences as Charlie McDonnell from YouTube (Charlieiscoollike). He also does a fantastic job voicing Rob Locksley in the game. Charlie is joined in Volume by Danny Wallace, who won a BAFTA for his performance in my previous game Thomas Was Alone. We’ve also got movie star Andy Serkis. Andy… oh, that feels awkward to call him by his first name… Mr. Serkis? Sir? Yes, let’s go with Mr. Serkis. Anyway, he plays big baddy Guy Gisborne and I still can’t believe he agreed to participate. For those who know nothing about Volume (And thank you for your interest in reading this far!), it’s a stealth action game with a robust level editor. We’ve got a 100-level campaign voiced by all the talent mentioned above (and a few surprise guest stars). The story is a spin on the Robin Hood legend, as Locksley takes over a virtual training simulator and broadcasts the blueprints to commit crimes against the corrupt elite of England. The reason I mentioned Volume’s level editor is robust is because everything you see in the game was made using it. All those tools are available to players for uploading their own content and sharing with friends. Yes, all the tools. Every gadget in the game, tile type, environmental hazard, enemy, and the Volume’s entire color palette are available. And to reward players who create the best content, the game also includes a rating system so community supported maps rise to the top of the charts. I’m looking forward to watching you play the game on Twitch during launch week. I’ll be lurking in your streams. Is that creepy? Maybe a little creepy, but I’m doing it anyway. Can’t wait to see how you enjoy the game! View the full article

Everyone here at VooFoo Studios is very proud to announce the arrival of our latest title, Pure Hold’em. Pure Hold’em will be throwing down the chips today in the United States for $19.99. Pure Hold’em is our third game in the Pure series and will be the very first Texas Hold’em poker game to grace PS4. We personally can’t wait to share with you what we believe to be the most realistic poker simulation game to date. If you’ve experienced our games in the past, you’ll know that our artists push the limits when it comes to photo-realistic visuals, and Pure Hold’em is no exception. From the hustle and bustle of the casino floor, to the high stakes tension of the executive penthouse, Pure Hold’em will unleash the poker master in everyone. Total immersion doesn’t just stop with the visuals in Pure Hold’em. Use the DualShock 4 touchpad to skilfully manipulate the cards in your hand, look around the table to view your opponents, and attempt to analyze their strategies. Every element of Pure Hold’em has been created to make this the ultimate poker experience. With a total of six highly detailed tables, players will work their way up from the casino floor and the Jack’s table playing for small change, right up to the high stakes Masters table situated in the opulent top-floor penthouse. Pure Hold’em supports a full roster of online options ranging from an Open Play poker fix to a privately hosted tournament, played between you and up to seven of your Hold’em friends. If customization is your thing, you are certainly catered for, with a huge array of table cloth designs and colors. Add to this a choice of 3 different card designs and 3 chip sets, and you really can make the game your own. If that wasn’t enough, look out for additional chipset packs in the upcoming months. These, including the upcoming Vortex, Paradise City and King’s Ransom sets; the latter of which was named by the winner of our recent community competition. We’ve been overwhelmed by the response we’ve received from fans since Pure Hold’em was announced and now we’re very pleased to release it to the world and to ask you one final question… …are you all in? Join us on our Twitch channel this Saturday for a special Play the devs stream, where we’ll be giving away some Pure Hold’em game codes. Keep an eye on Twitter this week for further details. As with all game development, the road to completing Helldivers has been filled with struggle, success, and learning brand new things (Like developing for cross play, cross save, and multiple platforms at the same time… phew!) but it’s been a lot of fun. It leaves us with many stories to tell but we can only fit a small part here. We even started filling an entire wall with fantastic community comments! One of the more memorable days was of course, launch day. We were setting up to livestream the game while having a few good beers and chatting with the viewers. We had a blast seeing Helldivers truly come to life with everyone finally contributing to the Galactic Campaign together, and eventually we decided it might be fun if we joined a random player in our game. It turned out that our new found friend was also streaming his game live all the way from New Zealand. Here we were playing with someone from the very other side of the globe! Here’s some other great stories from our designer, Patrik Lasota during development and how a few hilarious bugs appeared: Scared of Heights — we got a report from QA (Quality Assurance) that if your character was injured, and walked on one of the roots spanning the chasms in the desert environment, it would trigger the falling VO, causing the Helldiver to scream for his life as though he was falling to his death. Hilarious when the Helldiver is standing on the edge of a ravine! (footage captured during alpha testing prior to the game’s launch) Minidiver — we had a bug for about half a year but didn’t discover until QA pointed it out. The Helldiver would shrink if you entered the hellpod on the bridge, and then exited again. We thought QA was messing with us — I mean, that’s a silly bug and how would it even happen? Well, it turns out that QA had indeed found a bug and we scratched our head for a good while until we realized that we were doing some animation tricks to the Helldiver to get him to fit in the pod. The result was hilarious, making the Helldiver character almost half the original size. A good many laughs were had. Needless to say, we’ve ironed out a few kinks along the way and we’re excited to launch the most amazing Helldivers experience today with Super-Earth Ultimate Edition! Are you ready to step up and take your place among the Helldivers? Get out there soldier, and fight for Super-Earth! View the full article

Two game creators. Four years of development. One shared obsession. The Bridge is finally available on PS4, PS3, and PS Vita tomorrow. Not Exactly Newton’s Theory of GravityThe Bridge opens to a scene where an unnamed character is sleeping under a tree. At this point, the only available action is to rotate the direction of gravity — the common theme throughout The Bridge. Like with Isaac Newton, an apple falls from the tree to wake our sleeping protagonist, and the journey begins. The Bridge is an unconventional platformer (if you would even call it that), because there is no jump button. Instead, you must navigate through the puzzle structures by only walking and applying the unusual mechanic of gravity rotation. But the gravity manipulation doesn’t stop there — throughout The Bridge you will encounter gravitational vortexes, inverted gravity, objects having gravitational vectors that are different than your own, and more. M. C. Escher’s Impossible WorldSome have described The Bridge as “M. C. Escher: The Game.†Escher is the artist who created famous works around impossible reality and gravity such as Waterfall and Relativity. Whenever I look at these drawings, I imagine myself walking around inside of these mysterious and surreal worlds. I knew that a video game was the only medium where this could truly be achieved, so I created The Bridge in the spirit of an M. C. Escher drawing in order to bring these impossible worlds to life. Hand Drawn, Black-and-White Artwork Mario Castañeda was the sole artist of The Bridge, hand drawing the entire game in a black-and-white lithographic art style. When I started the project, I had a clear vision in that I wanted the entire game to look and feel like you were inside of an M. C. Escher drawing. I felt that having authentic visuals in Escher’s classic monochromatic style was the only way to truly marry the impossible architecture that comprises the puzzles in The Bridge with the surreal visual aesthetics. When Mario showed me his initial mock-up for the protagonist, I knew that the style was perfect and that we both had the exact same vision for the game, and we spent the next four years creating it. Critically-AcclaimedThroughout The Bridge’s development, it has received over 16 awards and nominations, including Best Gameplay Winner and Best Art Direction Winner at the Indie Game Challenge, Best Art Winner and Best Gameplay nominee at the Unity awards, in addition to being featured in the PAX 10, IGF, IndieCade, and more. The Bridge will be available tomorrow on August 18th, and it will feature cross buy and cross save support, and include shared Trophies between PS4, PS3, and PS Vita. It’s been an incredible journey for Mario and myself to turn our dream for a game into a reality and finally bring it to PlayStation platforms. I’m really happy that you all can be a part of that. If you have any questions, I’ll respond in the comments section. View the full article
