Kratos made himself comfortable on PS.Blog this week, with not only an uncharacteristically heartfelt new trailer for God of War: Ascension, but his very own custom PS3 bundle. Agent 47's earlier assignments went HD on Blu-ray and PSN, DC Universe Online got some new DLC, we dove into some of the new enhancements in this year's installment of MLB The Show, Tearaway's new trailer introduced the island of Sogport (and atoi, the game's adorable alternate protagonist), we rolled out yet another great excuse to pick up PlayStation Plus (if, for some reason, you've still been on the fence)... and we haven't even mentioned Soul Sacrifice, Killzone: Mercenary or Vice City. Last Friday, Cade introduced our new twist on the Community Spotlight. Now it’s my turn to highlight something going on in the PlayStation Community. Last week we showcased the creative and talented moemarston, but not all weeks will be related to creative fans. Sometimes we’ll get a chance to focus on those of us with a nice, healthy competitive streak. And this is one of those weeks! Starting today, and running all through the month of February, is the inaugural Battle Bowl. Two of PlayStation’s biggest community-driven tournament sites have teamed up to bring us an epic series of tournaments called Battle Bowls. More...

Imagine that an all-knowing time traveller landed in 1986 in order to whisper the mysteries of 2013 to the startled mid-80s masses. Flying cars, powerful cell phones... a videogame sequel to Aliens? Now, 27 years after the theatrical release of James Cameron’s blockbuster, Gearbox Software is making the dream come true on PS3 this February 12th. Aliens: Colonial Marines is the sequel to Aliens that we always wanted but never got. You are a Colonial Marine sent to LV-426 to find out what happened to Ellen Ripley. If you’ve seen Aliens, you know that things with Ripley didn’t turn out so well, and you, with no idea what to expect, will find yourself entering hell, somewhere far, far away from planet Earth. If you’re an ardent PlayStation fan, you’ve no doubt seen the teasers. Today, I’m extremely excited to share the final, full-length version of our “From Ashes†live action trailer for God of War: Ascension, featuring a special arrangement of Ellie Goulding’s “Hanging On.†This is just about the biggest production we’ve ever undertaken for a God of War commercial or trailer -- or for any PS3 game for that matter. We are very proud of how it turned out, and we hope you enjoy watching it as much as we enjoyed making it. Everyone knows Kratos has anger management issues. More...

You can get the entire download on the Sony Entertainment Network blog here, here are this week’s highlights: Justin Bieber – Believe Acoustic JBiebs has been riding a runaway train of success before he even hit 18, hitting platinum success across multiple countries and a staggering following of Beliebers who have helped him dominate most major music conversations. We are getting closer to releasing Urban Trial Freestyle– and since we’ve focused on the PS3 version, we thought it was time to shed more light on the PS Vita version. Both versions of Urban Trial Freestyle feature the same proprietary physics engine (called Elephant Engine), so in terms of being a trial biking experience, PS Vita and PS3 are quite similar. Both platforms also feature the same game modes, outfits and motorbike customization. PS Vita is a really powerful machine -- as a development team, we were able to include all the same features as those on the PS3 version. More...

As the players return to the ice for the 2012-13 hockey season, so does the latest NHL GameCenter application to give PS3 users the ability to stream live out-of-market hockey games in full HD. And, just like last season, users in the United States and Canada can download the new NHL GameCenter application for free. Yup, that’s right. Even if you don’t have a subscription to NHL GameCenter LIVE, you can still view a wide range of NHL content through the NHL GameCenter application, including features such as post-game highlights, team schedules, standings, player stats and full NHL scoreboard. So, what do you get if you're already an NHL GameCenter LIVE subscriber? Pretty much everything an avid hockey fan can ask for. More...

It's been a little while since we updated you on our progress making Tearaway, but that all changes today! We recently showed some new parts of the game to members of the gaming press, and their previews and coverage of that should start appearing today across the web. We introduced them to an area of the game we've been working on for quite some time, and today we'd like you to see it too! Just one of the stops you'll make as you go on your delivery adventure in the world of Tearaway is Sogport, a mysterious island marooned in a deep sea of glue, and inhabited by some very fishy folk with a fearful obsession with the island’s monstrous local wildlife. See for yourself… Last August we introduced you to iota, and today we're really excited to introduce atoi (pronounced like the French phrase a'toi - "ah-twa" ) More...

The floodgates have opened! Hands-on impressions from recent press events in Amsterdam, LA and Taipei have started appearing all over the web, and that means we can finally reveal additional details about Killzone: Mercenary. First things first -- the game is scheduled for a September 17, 2013 release in North America. We also have a brand-new trailer for you to enjoy. Killzone: Mercenary is a new first-person shooter in the Killzone series, developed specifically for the PlayStation Vita platform and powered by the stunning Killzone engine. Starting just after the ending of the original Killzone, and revisiting many of the events from the Killzone trilogy, the game puts players in the rugged combat boots of a mercenary named Arran Danner. Danner is a former UCA-soldier who has no qualms about taking on paid contracts from the ISA as well as the Helghast. More...

Hitting is such an important aspect in baseball, and it’s an area we continually strive to make as realistic as possible. Last year we introduced our True Ball Physics engine to the franchise for ultra-realistic ball physics. This year we’ve done even more work to really make this area of the game as dynamic as possible with true to life outcomes. Take a look at what we’ve done to make hitting in MLB '13 The Show more accessible to everyone. We really want to make hitting more streamlined for players. Beginner mode allows people who have never played The Show -- or have struggled with it -- to learn the fundamentals of hitting. It’s meant to teach you the basics of Plate Discipline, Pitch Recognition and Timing. This mode uses adaptive A.I. that only advances as you do. If you take longer to get the hang of hitting in The Show, you won't be forced to advance. The A.I. will only advance once you've passed a certain threshold at each level. More...

Two weeks ago, we started a PlayStation Mobile promotion that offered six free games over six weeks. The first two games were Samurai Beatdown and Beats Slider. This week, we're pleased to announce that the free PlayStation Mobile game is Cubixx. In this fun an addictive game, you have to use your laser to cut away the surfaces of a mysterious cube and free the energy within. Cutting longer lines and crossing multiple cube surfaces gives you bigger combos, but at far greater risk. This is a great old-school, highscore-chasing game with 20 fun filled levels. Ross Brierley, a game tester with Laughing Jackal, had this to say about Cubixx when it launched in October 2012 on PlayStation Moblie . Today our latest DLC pack – Home Turf – went live! Home Turf is our sixth DLC and brings with it the biggest addition to DC Universe Online since the launch of the game two years ago – Player Bases. Bases are a player-created and controlled space that can be used as a venue of self-expression in addition to being a place for combat. Perhaps the most important part of your Base is the Mainframe. Through it, players can unlock several new abilities. In a lot of ways it’s like having your very own Bat Computer. The thing you’re likely to notice when you first enter your Base is a terminal on the wall next to the front door. This is your Base’s Control Panel, and by interacting with this you can relocate or rename your Base, or enter Decoration Mode. Decoration Mode pops you into a first-person camera, allowing you to easily zoom around your Base, placing and moving items and amenities. The latter can include things like an R&D Station, Broker, Mailbox, or Bank. Basically, the things that you otherwise would need to visit a Safehouse or HQ to use – in the convenience of your own home. More...

The release of Hitman: HD Trilogy today on PS3 and PlayStation Network brings Hitman: Blood Money onto the PlayStation format for the first time. With it come two additional classic Hitman games – Silent Assassin and Contracts. More than anything else IO Interactive has created in the past decade and a half, Hitman has been the defining series for the studio. Five titles in the franchise have been released in the last 12 years, across most AAA platforms available within the same time period. The combination of the assassin fantasy, game mechanics and freedom of choice makes the Hitman series the most original set of games we have made at IO. Nobody had ever really seen a game like Hitman before -- not even the developers who were about to create it. More...
