1. As you may know from my recent tweet, the development of our latest PlayStation Network game, Journey, is finally complete. 8. Welcome to this month’s PSN Top Sellers, where we break down the content that moved the most over the past month. Looks like a lot of you had football fever as a ton of PSN gamers picked up NFL Blitz, EA Sports’ revival of the arcade and console classic and a perfect accompaniment to the end of the NFL season. On the handheld front, Corpse Party went for its third straight month at the top of the PSP charts, but the imminent release of PS Vita may spark a new surge in PSP title downloads -- check back next month. In PS one Classics, while Final Fantasy VI enjoyed the top spot last month, Final Fantasy VII reclaimed its (rightful?) spot at the top. Lastly, Battlefield 3 DLC earned two spots on the Add-Ons category. Will Modern Warfare 3 DLC for Elite members hitting in February move the needle? To help celebrate the release of the Jak and Daxter Collection, 2 Player Productions and our team here at Naughty Dog put together a video highlighting some of our favorite memories, trials and tribulations while working on the franchise. There’s also a look into the challenging and wonderful job Mass Media did in re-mastering this collection to run beautifully on the PS3. More...
10. It’s a special PS Vita early launch week / Valentine’s Day edition of the PlayStation Store Update! But it doesn’t mean there’s no great new PS3 content to talk about either. Which means we’ve got a lot to cover, so let’s get to it. Kicking things off this week is the official PlayStation Store launch of PS Vita titles available to download once you’ve connected to PlayStation Network. Many of the downloadable titles are also available at retail as well such as UNCHARTED: Golden Abyss. However, there are exclusive titles that are only on PSN including Super Stardust Delta, Escape Plan and Hustle Kings. 11. On last week’s premiere episode of The Tester 3, we put our gamers through an intense challenge involving a mock job interview and hissing cockroaches. We literally got to witness how each cast member dealt with bugs. For episode 2, things gets really twisted, as David Jaffe, Twisted Metal’s co-director, is this week’s guest panelist on hand to evaluate teamwork in a Sweet Tooth-inspired competition. You also don’t want to miss the gamers taking on the first boss battle in the new Twisted Metal as part of this week’s challenge. Mr. Jaffe appeared in an earlier video here on the PlayStation.Blog, and discussed the great opportunity this season’s winner will have working as a Production Associate at Santa Monica Studio. Check out the below video to get a taste of today’s episode, which you can watch right here and download from the PlayStation Store later today. 12. Hey everyone, Nate McDonald here, one of the producers for EA SPORTS Grand Slam Tennis 2. This is an exciting post for me to write because after a lot of hard work by a great group of people here at EA Canada, we are ready to launch this franchise to you on the PlayStation 3 platform! Given that this was our first venture into the tennis genre on next gen, we really wanted to focus on developing a well-rounded title, with fun and innovative controls, high quality detailed graphics and presentation for all of the players and courts, and enough feature depth to keep you coming back for more, whether it be single player, multi-player, or online. 13. It’s judgment day! Twisted Metal is now available in stores, and our sweet new launch trailer has made its debut: To make Twisted Metal's release day even more exciting than it already is, Sweet Tooth’s ice cream truck is now on a turntable in the middle of the desert, waiting for you to shred it to pieces with bullet-fire. Go to shootmytruck.com right now for a chance to fire a fully automatic weapon live from your own computer and make real things explode. In the history of gaming, guns, and the world wide web, nothing like this has ever been done, and this is your opportunity to be a part of it. Seriously, stop reading this right now and go to shootmytruck.com. And don’t forget to pick up Twisted Metal and let us know what you think! More...
14. Worms: Ultimate Mayhem is being released later today on PlayStation Store for PS3. In contrast to the Worms games released on PSN to date, Ultimate Mayhem is a 3D version of the crazy turn-based strategy series, being a “best of†compilation of the most memorable bits of Worms 3D and Worms 4: Mayhem. The game is crammed with surreal weaponry, wacky customization options, tons of destructive single-player content and multiplayer options, Trophies, and some really cool improvements to the original games. We also added enhancements and updates to the camera, the graphics, the audio and the aiming especially. To celebrate today’s new release, we thought it may be fun to reveal some of the many pop culture secrets that can be found within the levels and content. The game is packed to its destructive core with some affectionate, and sometimes surreal, film and pop cultural references, all scattered amongst the numerous themes and landscapes. More...
15. Pulse celebrates Valentine's Day alongside Sweet Tooth and the release of Twisted Metal. In our new episode, get a taste of this wicked vehicle shooter from David Jaffe and the crew at Eat Sleep Play. Remember: new copies of the game give you access to Twisted Metal Black via PSN. This edition of Pulse also takes the Mass Effect 3 demo (coming to PSN later today) and SSX demo (coming soon) for a test drive. And, with only a week until PS Vita rolls out here in North America, Christina Lee takes a quick look at the must-have launch titles such as Escape Plan, wipEout 2048, and UNCHARTED: Golden Abyss. 19. When I first heard about this I was told that Robert Bowling had tweeted it. But I know that the readers here would want more info and clarity, so I dug some up for you! There is no word as to when the prestige levels will be added to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game, but the new five levels will also raise the maximum console prestige level to 15 just like it did with the update patch that was made available for the PC version of the game not long ago. The emblems are pretty nice I must say: We will report a follow-up when we learn anything else regarding this but I think it’s great! More...
20. In case you missed our PS Vita video livechat today, PlayStation’s John Koller revealed an official release date for Resistance: Burning Skies. The Chimera will invade PS Vita on May 29, 2012, bringing you the world’s first portable dual-analog FPS. Resistance has always boasted iconic visual design, and today we can reveal the Burning Skies box art -- a freshly slain Hybrid lying on the streets of New York City with the protagonist’s fire axe resting in the rubble. We like to think it recalls some of the eerie essence of the classic Resistance: Fall of Man box art, but we’d love to hear what you think! Resistance: Burning Skies pulls you into an entirely new dimension of the Resistance universe. Set in a tale of survival during the August 1951 Chimeran invasion of the East Coast, you take control of Tom Riley, an everyday firefighter from New Jersey who is thrown headfirst into the teeth of the Chimeran war machine, forcing him to redefine his notions of duty and heroism. 22. The PlayStation Vita: after over a year of hype, the first of us will get to take one home (or on a plane, train, submarine, or hot air balloon) this week. The Vita is more than just a shiny OLED screen and dual analog sticks; it's a complex, cutting edge device, and we know you have questions about some of its finer points. Over the weekend we took questions via Twitter, and today John Koller and I will be answering many of them and demoing features as appropriate. No smoke and mirrors, we'll do it live! And for those of you who think you already know everything there is to know about PS Vita, we'll show a few other things to you for the first time. It all starts at 3pm Pacific/6pm Eastern, so see you then! More...
23. What better day to share a labor of love than just on the heels of Valentine’s Day? Fun Bits Interactive and our partners at SCEA Santa Monica Studio are proud to see Escape Plan release tomorrow as a PS Vita launch title, exclusively on PSN for $14.99. Since Escape Plan’s global unveil in August 2011 at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany, we have been hard at work breathing life into Lil & Laarg, porting the Unity engine to PS Vita, and creating a new style of “survival humor†gameplay that takes full advantage of the unique features of the PS Vita in stunning black-and-white graphics. 24. In just a few short days, ModNation Racers: Road Trip will hit store shelves alongside the release of the much-anticipated PS Vita! Our team at San Diego Studios has worked very hard to produce what we think is the best portable kart-racing game on the market. We’ve added many new features (see below) to the already acclaimed ModNation Racers franchise and we are quite excited to finally get them into the hands of gamers everywhere. Sure, it may sound a bit silly to the uninitiated but the Mod, Karts, and Tracks YOU create become a small extension of yourself. You experience a sense of e-pride (just made that word up) similar to whipping out your wallet to show pictures of your gorgeous wife and kids to anyone who will listen. You’ll notice a grin on your face and a slight swell in your heart (admit it or not) the first time you hand your PS Vita and ModNation Racers: Road Trip to a friend as they “ooh and ahhhh†at YOUR “genius†creations. 25. As we get closer to the launch of PS Vita and UNCHARTED: Golden Abyss, the team at Bend Studios is getting amped! We’ve been working on this game for a long, long time, from early brainstorming sessions on the PS Vita beginning in 2008, through the production phase that wrapped up at the end of 2011. When given the opportunity to create a launch title for PlayStation’s new next-gen handheld, we jumped at the chance. When asked what game we'd like to make, we said UNCHARTED! Here's why. From the beginning, our goal was to create a great UNCHARTED game. We wanted to give players, including ourselves, more of what they love, but with the PS Vita’s unique spin. The cinematic experience, the gunplay and weapons, the compelling story and characters, the mystery and treasure hunting based on real history, the puzzles, the platforming, and of course, the colorful and detailed imagery... it's all there. But it's on a gorgeous five-inch screen that you can take with you. More...
