All week long, I've had this strange tension in my shoulders. I was hunched up, and was even having trouble sleeping. As Comic-Con came to a close, I couldn't figured out the source of my weird aches, until I finally realized: it's EVO time. <a href="http://evo2k.com/">EVO</a> is the World Series of Fighting Games, and it's this weekend, July 29th through the 31st, in Las Vegas. EVO has been running for over a decade, and has grown from a small gathering of friends into the biggest fighting-game event on the planet, with thousands of competitors and fans attending from dozens of countries (46 countries are represented this year!). We’re back from <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/tag/comic-con11/">Comic-Con International 2011</a> and we’ve barely survived this year’s awesome, and awesomely busy, show! One of the our personal highlights from Comic-Con was being able to be in front of over 400 fans and talk about <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/tag/uncharted-3-drakes-deception/">Uncharted 3</a> during our panel on Friday, July 22. Moderated by USA Today’s Mike Snider, the panel was called “Developing Interactive Entertainment: The Performance Capture Techniques of the UNCHARTED Franchise and Today’s Film Industry†and it gave Amy Hennig, Taylor Kurosaki, Josh Scherr, Nolan North, Emily Rose and Richard McGonagle the perfect setting to discuss everything that goes into creating the industry-leading cinematics in the Uncharted series. I wanted to share this highlight reel from the panel Jenova Chen and myself were on last week at <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/tag/comic-con11/">Comic-Con</a> (it was the first time attending for both of us!). Formally announced at PlayStation’s E3 2011 press conference, the upcoming <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/06/17/littlebigplanet-2-playstation-move-even-endless-er-possibilities/">PlayStation Move Pack</a> for LittleBigPlanet 2 will greatly expand the game’s already prodigious creation suite and add countless new gameplay variants. Annihilation -- the third pack of DLC maps for <a href="http://www.callofduty.com/age-gate?referer=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.callofduty.com%2Fblackops%3Fpath%3Dblackops">Call of Duty: Black Ops</a> – comes to the PlayStation 3 late tonight <strong>after 2am Pacific Time</strong>. The DLC offers four new multiplayer arenas and a new jungle-based Zombies survival experience in Shangri-Li. In celebration of the big release, developer <a href="http://www.treyarch.com/">Treyarch</a> has deemed that the double XP will flow all weekend long. I’ll be hosting a <a href="http://oneofswords.com/2011/07/playing-with-swords-black-ops-ps3-729/">gameplay session this Friday night</a> to soak some of that up myself, and my favorite game type is Domination. Many of you have been getting very excited about the chance to play <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/tag/resistance-3/">Resistance 3's</a> competitive multiplayer modes online when the <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/04/08/resistance-3-public-beta-get-early-access-with-socom-4/">Resistance 3 Public Beta</a> launches. Today, we're happy to give some additional info about the launch dates for the beta. For those of you who have received Early Access to the Public Beta via specially marked packages of <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/tag/socom-4/">SOCOM 4</a>, we will be opening the beta to you at some point on Thursday, August 4th. Your existing codes will be able to be redeemed via the PlayStation Store and the Redeem Code button. PlayStation Plus subscribers in the U.S. will also be invited to join the beta beginning on August 23rd. Konami has announced that the Silent Hill HD Compilation for the PS3 will be arriving sometime in September or October. The compilation will include HD updates of *Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 3. Both the games have been remastered to run at 720p resolution, with updated*voice-over,*soundtrack and*trophy*support thrown in the mix as well. Despite the game’s lackluster reception, Gearbox Software has decided to continue supporting Duke Nukem Forever and has drawn the curtains on the first piece of DLC. The Hail to the Icons Parody Pack brings to the table, four new multiplayer maps and a trio of interesting takes on some of the popular modes of today’s shooters. More details on the maps were detailed on the game’s official forum: Call of Duke – Duke engages in modern combat in a war-torn city. Foes don’t stand a chance against the Duke when he spams the map with the N00b T00b. Sandpit – Players take the role of mini-Duke in a giant sandbox with two bases at either end made out of children’s toys. This map features Sticky Bombs. Inferno – Time machine engage! Duke does combat in a hellish landscape of lava and teleporters. Who turned on the 16-bit graphics, and more importantly, where did this DFG come from? 2Forts1Bridge – Hats? Duke doesn’t need no stinking hats. Give him a minigun and he’ll beat off all comers. And about the new game modes: As the title suggest, players will find themselves joining hands to freeze and shatter their opponents for point streaks and combos in Freeze Tag. The one who holds on the girl for the longest time in Hot Potato takes home the prize. And finally, Hail to the King is your typical free-for-all. The free pack will feature new fan-favorite multiplayer characters as well as new multiplayer locations for players of Deathmatch, Grab the Bag, Gang matches and others. A title update in the lead up to the new free DLC pack will also be released to address issues with the original Undead Overrun multiplayer mode settings. No EU release date was given, but it will probably be the standard three days later. A new trailer of the game has also been released, via GameTrailers, and it shows Prototype 2 protagonist Sgt. Ubisoft told us in May that it didn’t have a ship date for the title, but several major retailers listed an August launch at the time. The bundle had previously missed its appointed March and June launch dates. The latest release date of September 27 is now listed by the retail trinity of Amazon, GameStop and GameFly (which conveys only publisher-provided intel).
