I wanted to drop by with more information about our PSN PLAY-bound title Renegade Ops, focusing on upgrades you’ll use to enhance your chosen vehicle. The upgrades are there to help you tailor your character to your preferred play style...though all four characters can be played balls-to-the-wall, and you’re never going to have enough time to sit back and take in the gorgeous scenery for long. First though, allow me to give you the first exclusive look at the latest trailer which surprisingly enough shows off some of these upgrades (above). The better you are at the game - in other words the more enemies you destroy, stunts you pull and collectibles you grab - the quicker you’ll reach the next level, and in this game levels mean prizes…well, upgrade points. So, how can you spend these points? Well you’ll have the choice of three skill trees to spread your points over, so you can customise your character depending on how you best play the game. The only limit to this is the amount of upgrades you can have active at one time; the higher your level, the more upgrades you can equip. More...

Story by Stephen Totilo @ Kotaku.com. The Counter-Strike: Global Offensive rumors were true. Valve Software announced the game today and already added a listing for it to Steam. In a press release, Valve said that “CS: GO features new maps, characters, and weapons and delivers updated versions of the classic CS content (de_dust, etc.). In addition, CS: GO will introduce new gameplay modes, matchmaking, leader boards, and more.” The team-based shooter game is “targeted” for an early 2012 release on the Xbox 360′s Xbox Live Arcade, the PlayStation 3′s PlayStation Network, Mac and PC in early 2012. “Counter-Strike took the gaming industry by surprise when the unlikely MOD became the most played online PC action game in the world almost immediately after its release in August 1999,” Valve spokesman Doug Lombardi said in today’s announcement. “For the past 12 years, it has continued to be one of the most-played games in the world, headline competitive gaming tournaments and selling over 25 million units worldwide across the franchise. CS: GO promises to expand on CS‘ award-winning gameplay and deliver it to gamers on the PC as well as the next gen consoles and the Mac.” The game is being co-developed by Valve and Hidden Path Entertainment (the latter of whom worked with Valve on updates to Counter-Strike: Source, the game’s most recent major release) and will be playable at PAX Prime in two weeks in Seattle as well as at the London Games Festival Eurogamer Expo in late September. Interesting. I wonder what those Valve protesters are thinking right now. They were demanding a long-lost sequel from Valve, weren’t they? Score: 0 (0 votes cast) More...

Re-mastering both of the God of War PSP games in full HD for the PS3 God of War: Origins Collection definitely had its share of challenges for us. The first goal we had was simply the daunting task of up-rezing the engine and content authored on a PSP running at 480 x 272 resolution and 30 frames per second to 1920 x 1080p at a steady 60 fps on the PS3. This required a custom PS3 version of our engine, coded in-house exclusively for the Origins Collection, as well as a painstaking process by art team. More...

Hello Playstation.Blog readers! We’ve been hard at work making a must-have PS3 downloadable game for PSN, so it’s been a while since our last PlayStation.Blog update. If you’re like me and you can barely remember your own name, let me refresh your memory about Retro/Grade. Retro/Grade is an innovative fusion between a rhythm game and a sidescrolling shooter that has received the IndieCade audience award as well as two Independent Game Festival nominations. The game begins when you have just singlehandedly fended off an alien invasion, but all the destruction damaged the space/time continuum, which caused the flow of time itself to reverse. What would have been the final boss is actually the beginning of your backwards journey. More...
