  1. Warner’s released a new trailer for Mortal Kombat’s Challenge Tower, *which gives you a look at the mode’s 300 levels. The game mode will give players the ability to test out the engine’s capabilities in various brutal and sometimes hilarious ways. “The Challenge Tower is 300 missions where we really wanted to challenge the player’s mastery of different mechanics in the game, while also challenging their dedication to sticking with it,†says senior designer Mike Birkhead One of the levels is a fight between Mileena and Scorpion which is a result of the masked guy refusing to accept a teddy bear that the “cute†girl made for him. The game recently got banned in Australia but Warner’s decided to appeal against it. A PS Plus exclusive PS3 demo will be hitting PSN next week. The Netherealm-developed fighter will release on April 21 in the UK. Score: 0 (0 votes cast) Urgent Fury Command: More...
  2. THQ has released a rather tasty looking trailer for their upcoming shooter Homefront. Showcasing the multiplayer aspect of the shooter, set for release in two weeks, the trailer features guns, tanks, choppers and more explosions than a pyrotechnics grenade party. Not to mention some wicked looking gadgets and an unhealthy amounts of on screen experience. We’ll be going hands on with the multiplayer next week so we’ll be sure to bring you our thoughts on whether Homefront can really push its way into the multiplayer shooter space. 5. Competitive multiplayer has always been the core of the SOCOM franchise, and SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs takes it further than ever before with modes and options that both new recruits and veterans alike will enjoy. We've previously covered three of our four competitive modes -- Suppression, Last Defense and Uplink -- and today we're excited to unveil our fourth mode, Bomb Squad. In Bomb Squad, Insurgents have planted a number of bombs around the map and the Spec Ops team must defuse them all before time runs out. What makes Bomb Squad special is that it features the unique Bomb Technician character, played by one member of the Spec Ops team, who is charged with defusing the explosives. He carries both an automatic shotgun and a mobile grenade launcher and is very heavily armored, making him a deadly force on his own; that said, the technician is still an open target any time he turns his back to defuse Insurgent bombs. Succeeding in Bomb Squad requires tactics, teamwork, patience and confidence to get the job done, all pillars of the overall SOCOM experience. When can you get your hands on Bomb Squad, you ask? Well, you'll be able to try out all four of our modes on two maps in our upcoming beta! The SOCOM 4 Multiplayer Beta will include each of the game's competitive multiplayer modes -- Suppression, Last Defense, Uplink and Bomb Squad -- all playable on the maps "Port Authority" and "Assault & Battery". And of course, you'll be able to play each of our modes in either of their Standard or Classic variants. The SOCOM 4 Multiplayer Beta will roll out in four separate phases. It'll begin with a small, private group and then expand weekly from there until it's freely available to everyone! Here's the schedule for each of the beta's rollout phases: On March 15th, a private beta goes live. We’ll be contacting eligible players soon. Beginning March 22nd, PlayStation Plus members will gain access to the beta. On March 29th, anyone with a beta code included with Killzone 3 gains entry. Starting April 5th, the beta will be freely downloadable to anyone via PlayStation Network. The beta is scheduled to run until April 13th, at which point the servers will be taken down in preparation of SOCOM 4's retail release on April 19th! Click here to discuss Bomb Squad and the beta on the official SOCOM forums. More...

  8. The Call of Duty: Black Ops trailer featuring Kobe Bryant and a cast of everyday Call of Duty players was a stroke of marketing genius. Making a trailer for the First Strike map pack by having two in-game characters perform to a song from 80s band Scorpions? Also genius. For those that weren’t alive at the time the Berlin Wall was still erect, the German rock band Scorpion released a song in 1990 called “Wind of Change” that was about the dramatic social and economic shifts that were occuring in Eastern Europe at the time. Part of that change was the fall of the Berlin Wall. The Berlin Wall trailer is a decidedly more humorous take on the classic power ballad with two soldiers walking on either side of the wall singing along to the song. First Strike will be available to download on the Playstation network on March 3. Score: 0 (0 votes cast) Urgent Fury Command: More...
  9. For all your Xbox 360 Call of Duty players out there Treyarch has recently rolled out a brand new title update that fixes a number of issues. Amongst the patch notes is also some additional sniper rifle tuning that is sure to please the devout sniper community. Check out the full patch notes below; 2/28/11 (Title Update 7) Issues Addressed: • Matchmaking improvements to return higher quality results faster. This change includes settings that are tunable in the live environment, so tweaking may continue beyond initial release of this update. • The in-game store now hides DLC map packs that do not match the language of the player’s disc to decrease the possibility of users downloading the incorrect language version. • Calling in a Chopper Gunner immediately after getting shot down in a Gunship will no longer end the Chopper Gunner run prematurely. Required timing-specific button presses. • Split screen players are now able to change camera perspectives and cycle through players as a spectator. • Addressed an issue where the most recent match played in Zombies could overwrite the best match played on the leaderboard. • Improved Zombies lobbies to prevent players from erroneously receiving the error “Unable to join game session†under certain circumstances. • Addressed a number of community-discovered Zombies gameplay exploits. • Additional security feature updates. Gameplay Tuning: • Additional sniper rifle tuning. The update is currently being rolled out across the world and if you don’t recieve it be patient as it propogates across Xbox LIVE. A Playstation 3 patch is also coming on March 3rd alongside the “First Strike†DLC that was an Xbox 360 timed exclusive. Score: 0 (0 votes cast) Urgent Fury Command: More...

  11. Thanks to the continued support of Jeremy Dunham, Community Manager for Zipper Interactive, we had the pleasure of going to the Socom 4 media Day at Zipper headquarters in Redmond, WA. So part 1 is my take on our preview of multiplayer. Part 2 will come after our visit to PAX East where we will be preparing a future episode of UFreqTV for Playstation Home and visiting some more of the shooters out there that make Urgent Fury what it is today. Now let me set the bar here, the game was not in anyway a finished product and even in the time that I have taken to publish this, many changes have been made. In addition our video that we compiled has not been approved by Sony PR, so I am going to release the written version. I do apoligize as we had some great gameplay footage as well as some great Q & A with one of the Dev team members. So with that being said, here is Part 1… Socom 4: The renewal of Tactical Gaming Socom in my opinion was the beginning of tactical multiplayer gaming for consoles. Originally launched on PS2, Socom set the stage for one of the greatest phenomenon’s in console gaming. You and fifteen of your friends could group together online and with team work conquer another gaming team. You did this from your gaming lair. Friendships have been forged, and in many cases members of your team known as clans would put their gaming clan ahead of their wife and family. Many players such as I have been playing with our clan mates for many years. The community of Socom fans is by far one of the most critical in the business. You can visit the Socom forums at Socom.com and read thousands of posts asking for different functions and game options in Socom 4. Community managers Jeremy Dunham and Chris Roper have spent the last several months answering questions and gathering intel for the dev team at Zipper interactive Studios. Recently I had the privilege to visit Zipper Interactive to preview Socom 4 as the release date of April 19th approaches. As hoped we were treated to a first look at Socom 4 Multiplayer and a new Single player level. Our visit started with the true experience of the security required at a development studio. It was nothing less than expected. So we started with a presentation by Travis Steiner along with a demo of both a single player level and some multiplayer game play, but I have to be honest, I kept eagerly awaiting our turn to get our hands on it. I played Socom 4 at E3, but it was a very short demo. I was excited to play multiplayer as that is the staple for Urgent Fury, so I was like a starving boy in front of the desert buffet. You can find more about the presentation from Commander Fury on Urgent Frequency http://www.urgentfury.com/podcast. So we take position at our Playstation setup, no sharing, no taking turns, just one on one with a Playstation 3, Socom 4 and me. First let’s talk about what multiplayer has to offer in this version of Socom. I will admit this is truly a new version of Socom. Zipper has been taking notes on how the giant shooters out there are attracting hundreds of thousands of gamers to play. Unlike the latest release by Slant Six had horrific load times, to the point I spent many a night grilling dinner between rounds, but Socom 4 is a true improvement. If you want to jump on and get your game on, you will only have to wait a few minutes max. You choose a game from the list and you get to work. Now I won’t lie, there are grumblings by the Socom faithful saying this type of setup is not true to the series, and I will say you are right it isn’t, this is called innovation. More...

  15. If you caught GameTrailers TV last night then congratulations! You had an exclusive first look at two previously-unannounced goodies from SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs – both of which we’re going into detail about right now. The first new element ties directly into gameplay and it’s one that we’re really thrilled about. In select missions during the solo campaign, players take control of female South Korean 707th covert operations expert “45.†Acting as the team’s primary form of reconnaissance, 45 slinks into various locales under the cover of night to capture valuable intel and sabotage enemy operations. Armed with silenced weapons and a handy stealth meter that lets players know how visible they are to hostile forces, 45 is a sneaky badass that adds a lot to the already-intense SOCOM 4 experience. We really think you’re going to enjoy playing her missions and we’re glad to finally let that secret out of the bag. Part two of our double announcement is just as exciting! In addition to the standard version of SOCOM 4 that you’ll find in stores across America on April 19, there will also be a special limited run SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs Full Deployment Edition.Priced at $149.99, the SOCOM 4 FDE is packed with all kinds of awesome. 19. As the April 19th release date for SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs quickly approaches we're happy to go into detail about everything the game has to offer, which is quite a lot! In addition to its cinematic single-player campaign and highly addictive online competitive multiplayer, SOCOM 4 also features a cooperative multiplayer mode where up to five people can play through a number of dynamic missions set up specifically for co-op play. SOCOM 4's cooperative mode features two main game types: "Takedown" and "Espionage." Takedown charges your team with scouring an enemy-filled location in search of opposing VIPs that you must neutralize however you can. Espionage turns the focus to intelligence gathering, where you must use teamwork to track down enemy data and sabotage their local operations. Before each co-op mission begins, you're able to adjust both the overall difficulty and the density of the enemy soldiers positioned on the map. But even at its easiest, SOCOM 4's cooperative mode has been designed to be challenging – as you progress, you'll need to use teamwork by calling out enemies and objectives to your squadmates. Today's co-op unveil isn't the last you'll hear of SOCOM 4 this week. Tune in to GameTrailers TV tonight and learn how stealth plays a big part in the game's campaign in addition to another special announcement fans won't want to miss! More...
