The PlayStation Network has been down for a few days now and it has undoubtedly resulted in a large percentage of the PSN’s userbase restless; most PSN users will be looking for some sort of reimbursement from Sony – especially due to the fact that gamers missed out on playing Mortal Kombat and Portal 2

While I agree with great customer service, if I were Sony I would think twice about giving anything. The consumers of the PSN are not out anything. Wait, I just said I believe in great customer service. I did however for someone to be reimbursed for a loss, something tangible had to be lost. Something where you paid for goods and service and you were not provided the service you paid for or at least felt it was sub-standard goods and services. The PSN is a free service. It costs the consumers nothing. There are no monetary damages real or implied, that fall upon the consumer. Some may say well I bought an online game, I was unable to play. So basically you lost time. Time playing a game that is a hobby. Something you do when you have spare time.

When the PSN comes back up will you be able to play the game? Yes, so there is nothing lost. They can do nothing to make you whole again. If Sony were to show some type of sentimental favor by giving out freebies for an inconvenience, precedence will be set and the consumer will come to expect this in the future for any type of interruption of their service.

It would be like planning a day out on your local county beach or at the county park with family and friends. The county provides numerous amenities such as playgrounds, water fountains and bathrooms. In other words it costs the county to provide you with this free service. About 30 mins in, it rains. Well there goes your whole day. Swimming, building sand castles with your little ones and maybe even a picnic, however that is ruined by something out of control of the park. Do you expect the county workers to hand out free beach towels or t-shirts for your lost day?

The only issue I see, is for users who purchased a Playstation Plus membership. Reguardless, of if someone purchased the 1 year or 3 month subscription. I can see PSN users wanting to be compensated for any time on their subscription. If the PSN is down for a week I don't see a big issue, but if it ends up taking a month to resolve the issue I can fully understand people wanting Sony to atleast extend their time to compensate.
