Yes you need CoD4 on your PC to use it. This has been out for a few months.

COMMUNITY MAPPING CONTEST

 

We have launched the official Mod Tools for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare on the PC and to celebrate, we're holding a 'Community Mapping Contest' which allows you, the community, to take map making into your own hands and create custom multiplayer maps for the #1 selling game of 2007.

 

What's your dream map? Wide open spaces perfect for sniping, or close quarters combat with plenty of cover to bound back and forth from? Maybe a nice mixture with plenty of avenues to attack from and some perfect choke points you can ambush from with the right amount of team work. Whatever you think makes a good multiplayer map, we want to see it. Most importantly, we want your best work.

 

On March 31st, we're going to be choosing our favorite community made maps and award the map makers of our favorites picks with special prizing and opportunities which we can't announce just yet but will be in the very near future (probably within a week). However the clock is ticking to get your map designed, as I said, we'll be choosing our favorite community made custom multiplayer maps on March 31st.

marketing ploy to try get us to buy more copies of the PC platform.

I'd love to be able to design my own maps, but I don't have a PC good enough to run the game.

The same reason there is a Disneyland billboard right outside of Universal Studios.. or a McDonalds Billboard right outside of a Burger King, etc..

And IW is the same company not competing.

 

But i wouldn't be surprised if we were able to download the map to our consoles once they are done, & have picked a winner. (maybe even two) PS3 version will be pushed back tho ..lol

Everyone who has a 360 will be playing CoD4

 

This is going to rip clans apart or force them to choose a side.. It will be really hard to have both, but at least you know you wont be competing in CoD4 on PS3 once Socom comes out (as long as it is good, like we all hope it is)

 

Should be interesting in the year 2011 when Socom actually comes out
