IRISH BULL Posted February 15, 2009 Report Posted February 15, 2009 I'm looking to buy a new camera. I'm willing to pay between $150 - $200. I want it to be compact with about 2.5 - 3 in screen. My wife is always complaining about red eye, so I need a camera that adjust to eliminate the red eye by itself. That's probably the most important function she wants. She also wants to be able to zip through the pics she took without a lot of load time. This is for casual picture taking. I'm not looking to win a Pulitzer prize for photos. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Quote
WiZ Posted February 15, 2009 Report Posted February 15, 2009 Here is a softball board I read alot. This guy has 1 left and it looks like a great deal. Scroll down a bit and somebody leaves a link to the actual camera and specs. For $135, I dont think you'd go wrong. But Im a camera novice though....... http://www.softballfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=574266 Quote

BigMoneyNacku Posted February 16, 2009 Report Staff Posted February 16, 2009 I've had good luck with all the Fuji products as well. Simple to use, cheap, and decent quality. Quote
HippieChik Posted February 16, 2009 Report Posted February 16, 2009 Here's what I have: http://www.amazon.com/Canon-PowerShot-SX100IS-Digital-Stabilized/dp/B000V1VG4W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1234798798&sr=1-1 You can find it for less than $200 if you look around. It might be more camera than what you are looking for. It has both automatic and manual settings. I LOVE the macro settings. Here I was learning how to use the macro feature: And it captures colors so well!: Aaaand, no red eye!: I LOVE MY CAMERA! After I bought it, three friends and family members went and bought the exact same camera because they loved how well my camera took pictures. The only thing that some may find negative: 1. size ... little bigger that a "pocket camera" 2. you have to raise the flash manually ... go figure. Hasn't been an issue for me. 3. if using flash, a bit slow between pictures. Has been a bit annoying, but all the other features I wanted make up for it. I really, really wanted a camera with great zoom and some good manual settings without spending tons of money on a digital SLR and macro settings were important because I like playing around with that stuff. Once you find a model you like, read reviews on it over at cnet.com. That should help you decide too. And good luck! P.S. Sorry about the large pictures, I don't know how to make them smaller! Quote
IRISH BULL Posted February 16, 2009 Author Report Posted February 16, 2009 Thanks Hippie. Yea, that would be great, but I need a compact camera. I'm looking at the big picture here. When the wife and I go somewhere and she doesn't have her purse and she wants to bring the camera, who do think is carrying it? lol So I need something small and compact. Quote

Like I said, it's definitely NOT a camera that can fit in your back pocket, but it's still small and fits nicely in a camera case. I was having a difficult time deciding between the one I bought and one for my pocket, but ultimately, I wanted one that would let me play around with settings, etc. Try this ... http://reviews.cnet.com/4247-6501_7-3-0.html?tag=statusBar;startover Quote
